A hypothetical god tier for Elliot Patterson from Doom Patrol: the Mage of Time.
A Mage of Time is among those who explore physical existence. They are motivated by themselves to know endings and destruction. (x) The Mage of Time has trouble forgiving their own mistakes and has a strong desire for closure. (x) They are the Genius Harbinger, defined by introspection, endings, and destruction. (x) Their opposite is the Seer of Space. Their inverse is the Heir of Space. They share their personality with the Witch of Mind. They would rise to ascension on the wings of crows. (x)(x)(x)

#currentlyreading for this month's book club - it's getting a bit chilly for reading outside, but that just means I can finally sit in the sun!
(This was ALSO the very first book selected for the book club! Which is the only meeting I've ever missed - because I only found out about one of the local libraries starting an lgbtq+ book club two days ahead of time and didn't want to get a book I'd been meaning to read spoiled lol)

Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson (2021)
The dead of Loraille do not rest.
Artemisia is training to be a Gray Sister, a nun who cleanses the bodies of the deceased so that their souls can pass on; otherwise, they will rise as spirits with a ravenous hunger for the living. She would rather deal with the dead than the living, who trade whispers about her scarred hands and troubled past.
When her convent is attacked by possessed soldiers, Artemisia defends it by awakening an ancient spirit bound to a saint’s relic. It is a revenant, a malevolent being that threatens to possess her the moment she drops her guard. Wielding its extraordinary power almost consumes her—but death has come to Loraille, and only a vespertine, a priestess trained to wield a high relic, has any chance of stopping it. With all knowledge of vespertines lost to time, Artemisia turns to the last remaining expert for help: the revenant itself.
As she unravels a sinister mystery of saints, secrets, and dark magic, her bond with the revenant grows. And when a hidden evil begins to surface, she discovers that facing this enemy might require her to betray everything she has been taught to believe—if the revenant doesn’t betray her first.
The Unwritten by Mike Carey (2010-2015)
Tom Taylor's life was screwed from go. His father created the Tommy Taylor fantasy series, boy-wizard novels with popularity on par with Harry Potter. The problem is Dad modeled the fictional epic so closely to Tom's real life that fans are constantly comparing him to his counterpart, turning him into the lamest variety of Z-level celebrity. In the final novel, it's even implied that the fictional Tommy will crossover into the real world, giving delusional fans more excuses to harass Tom.
When an enormous scandal reveals that Tom might really be a boy-wizard made flesh, Tom comes into contact with a very mysterious, very deadly group that's secretly kept tabs on him all his life. Now, to protect his own life and discover the truth behind his origins, Tom will travel the world, eventually finding himself at locations all featured on a very special map -- one kept by the deadly group that charts places throughout world history where fictions have impacted and tangibly shaped reality, those stories ranging from famous literary works to folktales to pop culture. And in the process of figuring out what it all means, Tom will find himself having to figure out a huge conspiracy mystery that spans the entirety of the history of fiction.

Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman (2020-present)
It's the most-watched game show in the galaxy!
In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth--from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds to all the trucks and cars--collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground.
The buildings and all the people inside, they've all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot. A dungeon so enormous, it circles the entire globe.
Only a few dare venture inside. But once you're in, you can't get out. And what's worse, each level has a time limit. You have but days to find a staircase to the next level down, or it's game over. In this game, it's not about your strength or your dexterity. It's about your views and your followers. It's about building an audience and killing those goblins with style.
You can't just survive here. You gotta survive big.
You gotta fight with vigor, with excitement. You gotta make them stand up and cheer. And if you do have that "it" factor, you may just find yourself with a following. That's the only way to truly survive in this game, with the help of the loot boxes dropped upon you by the generous benefactors watching from across the galaxy.
They call it Dungeon Crawler World. But for Carl, it's anything but a game.

Someone like you has lived and died and fertilized the soil beneath you. And their tears were made of the same water, their hearts struck the same cord as yours when they smiled. Your shared legacy is in the ground and sky and sea. Maybe their lives were barely documented and only through biased words. Maybe they never got to tell their story at all. But they still existed, trust in that, as you exist now. There have been centuries of destroyed texts, crushed or burnt to cinders. But they cannot destroy human nature.
History and nature wait for no man to understand them to evolve. We too are animals, but other creatures expand beyond our ideas of gender and sexuality without waiting for permission. Whatever name you are buried under, however your bones appear, the richness of the life you live will never leave that soil, and will carry on in the same way.

Day 3: What is your favorite book about Loki and Sigyn? Introduce it to the community.
The unwritten runes series by Cat Rector: Specifically The Goddess of nothing at all and Epilauge of lost gods!
(Major spoilers for the series and my own opinions!)
The series definitely has its own special spin on Sigyn that isn't too bad in my opinion, they establish her character as a go getter despite her problems of never fitting in with her divine family. Same for for the approval she seeks from Odin throughout the series!
If you're looking for the perfect dynamic between Loki and Sigyn and representation they definitely had in mythology! Such as Sigyn and Loki probably being up to no good, matching each other's energy. Loki's gender fluidity and women loving women relationships. This is so made for you!
Though there are some downsides and criticism I hold towards it. But honestly, nothing can ever be perfect right? The biggest ick is the way they portray Angrboda and make Loki cheat on Sigyn because of their tragic circumstances. Like, sure relationships have their strains and sometimes you need space..but why would you still be sexually active and have rough sex over a close friendship tragically ending.
Especially over something Loki couldn't help unless he wanted to die! Its truly its own complicated dilemma.
Cat wasn't joking when she said, she was going to put her version of the characters through hell and back! 😭
Neither do I enjoy the way Sigyn and Loki end up in a polyamorous relationship with a original character.. like I love original characters, but Cat really missed an opportunity for the Logynboda ship to sail. If Loki and Sigyn could make up and be happy, why couldn't they?
Oh right they made Angrboda a sour bitch.

The most disappointing thing about the apparent direction of Riverstar's Home, based on these leaks, is how much it reduces him as a concept... what was fun about him was his mystery. He had connections to One Eye, to a whole other culture, a unique set of skills with his fishing and swimming.
And so far (as of chapter 6, as far as the leaks go), RH has filled in those blanks with the most boring options possible. "Don't worry guys, he's NOT queer at all, here's his exclusively straight love interests!! He didn't even know One Eye before he knew the Tribe cats! And all that stuff about water-- yeah he has NOT actually been here much longer than the Tribe cats, and he spent lots of time in a kittypet home so you don't have to think about all the potential stories he could have had and one of his love interests can teach him almost everything."
Not only does it re-tell events we've already seen, it's slamming shut the door on what could have been, making him less compelling as a character. It's almost vindictively boring, as if they were trying to sand away what would make him stand out as a WC protagonist.
My prediction is that some of the later chapters will have some original content, much like how Onestar's Confession was mostly treading old ground with a few chapters dedicated to Brushpaw and the return to Chelford.
And that's just a shame.

Midyear queer book rec 2023: even more gay, even more slaps!
Tumblr media
Another wide selection of achillian, sapphic, and bisexual (is there a term for that?) relationships, basically all adult fiction and lots of romance, historical, and fantasy with happy endings because of who I am as a person. But these are all books I gave at least 3/5 stars that offer a fun range of relationships and writing styles!
If you want even more queer book recs, check out my many previous posts! Now go enjoy some queer reading and support authors writing queer fiction!
