today’s fun writing fact: did you know that most writing coaches estimate that it takes around one hour for the average writer to write 1000 words?
I know what you’re thinking — that’s really slow! I can write that in 20 minutes. Right, but that assumes that when you started typing, you knew exactly what you were going to write — every line of dialogue your characters were about to say, every description perfectly pre-planned, etc.
And then you have to go back and edit it. And tag it. And cut out parts that don’t work and add new bits. So by the time you’ve got that “short” fic all ready to go, you’ve probably spent at least two hours on it, maybe more.
So yeah, as an author, I cringe seeing the “this was so short!!” comments on fics, even when they’re well-intentioned. Because someone just took 2+ hours out of their day for something you could read in less than five minutes and be done with.
The next time you see that author put out a 1-2k chapter, remember to do the math! And leave a comment 💜 that’s how you keep those updates coming.

gortash interfering with press freedom.jpg
Noteworthy to me:
it took at least a TENDAY to print all the Gort posters around the city
he hired a Banite as an official aide (obviously) (Ulova's the Black Gauntlet up in his office)
Ettvard is reeking of Banite too (I see you, "yours faithfully")
he didn't even send this protest
a Gortash signing his name just "G" is an angry Gortash (see the "inappropriate tone" Ketheric letter)

do you know how hard it is to make a living as a door to door salesman when you're an inchworm? i knock on the door, and most people don't even look at me. and if they do listen to my pitch, it's always like, "these pots and pans are too tiny for me to use" like, we're in a recession! use some creativity. you'll want this cookware when you can't afford enough groceries to fill your old set. i'm so sick of this job. it's going to take me a week to reach the next house.

Patient: Why have I been billed for this?
Me: I don't know. I'm not pathology, you need to ring the pathology department and query that with them
Patient: Can I read the item numbers out to you and you can check them?
Me: No. I'm not pathology, I don't have pathology records, I don't have pathology billing codes. Please ring the pathology department
Patient: This is very frustrating. What would you do if you were in my shoes?
Me: I would ring the pathology department and ask them why they've billed me because I am not familiar with Medicare billing practices for pathology specifically and need them to explain it to me
Patient: So you can't tell me ANYTHING?

Gertie, played by Connie Cezon, was heard more than she was seen on Perry Mason. She appeared in only 18 episodes. Her last appearance was in the 1958 episode, The Case of the Terrified Typist. That episode is one of the three episodes in which Perry Mason lost his case.
