vaguely fascinated by osana sov's naming choices. she chose for her daughter a name that can mean "bitter (strength)" or "lady" in two ancient languages (hebrew and aramaic) and for her son a name that means "old friend" in another ancient language (old english)
like every other golden age character has a name that's pretty normal by our standards, which tbh includes mara, then osana just names her other kid uldwyn. then again, even osana's name is either a variant of the hebrew hosanna or after an obscure and possibly fictitious old english princess-saint whose name means something along the lines of "godly solitude", so i suppose mara might be considered the odd one out
#destiny 2#osana sov#ngl i lean towards the old english meaning for osana bc it's very fitting given she lives in the wilderness w uldren in the distributary#also want to acknowledge osana's name could be japanese (“childhood friend”) but given her kids have names from hebrew and old english#it seems pretty likely that her name has one or both of the same origins#either way osana was def a history nerd btwn this and her mentioning weregilds unprompted in the marasenna#though it's very interesting to me that most of what we *see* of osana in her in the context of her motherhood#even though she's also an extremely renowned negotiator and mara mentions osana also had premonitions (presumably of the collapse)#...there's a vague irony that osana and mara (and crow) had truthful visions but uldren's were purely a deceit by riven#also i have feelings abt the fact that mara and osana were the only ones to remain w their names unchanged amongst the original awoken#(to our knowledge at least) since mara whose namesake comes from the book of ruth where naomi changed her name to that out of grief#and mara changed basically every other person aboard that ship consciously or otherwise#but did she change her mother/let the transformation change her? idk it's been a lingering thought in my brain since forsaken#anyway this is inspired by me trying to figure out what the revenants' watchtower is guarding#i don't think it's the pre-existing one to the dreaming city bc the scorn are already there#notably all the lore calls it *the* watchtower but the livestream mentioned *a* watchtower so i think it must be a different one#my spinfoil hope is that it's guarding the entrance to the distributary but also interamnia (awoken capital) would be cool#edit: should prob mention i'm assuming uld- equals ald- (old) but like. fairly simple assumption given everything

Things I noticed my second time watching Transformers One
Restricted access to information - the first scene is literally Orion, breaking into an archive. obviously, Sentinel is trying to restrict access to information to keep the couggler spots from figuring out the truth.
Only cogeless bots use the trains - What if the whole reason they have trains is because cogeless can't transform and need other ways to travel.
The cogeless are so small - this got me thinking about a whole bunch of things. Are they supposed to grow as they get older, but couldn't because they couldn't transform?
The bar the Orion landed in only has bots with coges- there's obviously a good deal of prejudice from the transformers against the coggle spots, so are there like transformers only establishment?
D is worried about getting punished after the race - have they been punished before and for what? Are cogeless not allowed to do certain things
How long is a cycle? - obviously, a cycle is equivalent to a year, but from past media, we know that a cybertronian year is a lot longer than an earth year. But how long exactly?
D has so much anger throughout the entire movie. - I only really caught this on my second time watching, but D has a lot of anger throughout the entire movie, he just hides it very well.
Food shortage - there's probably a food shortage in Icon. We see orion grabbing as many cubes as he can from the bar, and Sentinel says that they barely have enough for their own citizens.
Does Alpha tryon think a bunch of kids have come to save him? From his perspective, he just got woken up by child sized bots. What is going through his head?
The high guard has become really demoralized. - Was it always like that? Or did starscrem leadership make them like that? Obviously, if they were trusted by the primes for so long, they must have had some moral backbone once upon his hime, so was it just that the fifty cycles they sped on the surface turn them into a might makes right cult?
Sental told everyone they died - looking back on it sentinel, prime always intended to get rid of them.He probably told dark wing to throw them down to sub level fifty.
The transformers only seemed concerned with the transmission ater Sentinel nails to the quintisomes - like I said earlier there's probably a good bit of classism between the Transformers and the cogless and some of the elite Transformers knew about the miners having their cogs ripped out, but didn't know about the quintesons.
The little ranking singly as that they are wearing. - we see D stomp his after the truth is revealed, but I didn't notice that they're all wearing them.
The longer the movie goes on, the more orion's voice sounds like Optimus Prime.
Other stuff
The little kid in front of me say "no why did you do that" when D shot Orion
Megatrons are at eyes are so cool
The way the music cuts for Optimist

I probably shouldn’t write for Doctor Who, because this is an overplayed trope, but here’s what I want for a potential multi-season companion. Her name is Callie (short for Calypso, which means ‘she who conceals’ but that’s just a coincidence…) and, personality-wise, she’s practically a stereotypical companion at first. Smart, witty, cheerful, reacts to the TARDIS with a typical “it’s bigger on the inside” but when she says it it’s almost like she’s making fun of the past companions. Her eyes are similar to Clara Oswald’s, she has blonde curls like River Song, which she keeps in two plaits like Yasmin Khan, she smiles like Rose Tyler, and the Doctor has an overwhelming sense of deja vu. She’s not much of a hugger, which the Doctor respects, but the one time she does hug him after a particularly emotional moment, he swears he can hear two heartbeats. That’s not the only thing - her eyes seem kind, but if you really look into them, there’s an iciness there. She’ll often smile to herself, like she’s laughing at a private in joke. She’ll often make herself a soup which smells just like a soup that can only be made with ingredients native to Gallifrey, and during her adventures with the Doctor things go wrong more often. She’ll push the Doctor to be more selfish because “you can’t save everyone”, and she won’t tell him much about her childhood. But then, one day, Callie starts acting even more odd. She responds to a question with “I’ve mastered it”, and the Doctor discovers that her ringtone is Saxon’s theme from when he was Prime Minister (“I was just a kid when Saxon became Prime Minister, that tune’s really nostalgic for me…”), then the truth comes out - Callie never existed; she is in fact the Doctor’s best enemy the Master (but you probably already knew that 😅). Her motivations are quite similar to Missy’s - she wanted her friend back, so she managed to make her newest regeneration a combination of every woman that the Doctor’s loved, and has drawn upon her knowledge of what the Doctor finds most appealing in a friend/romantic partner. When he tries to push her away, she gives him a look of mock-confusion and asks:
“What’s wrong, Doctor? I thought you were going to show me the universe?…”
Edit: I’ve started writing a fic about it :D:

_________________________________________
It was a dry fall day when Coriolanus and his family ran out of cabbage and potatoes. He was to go to Pluribus Bell and trade some belongings for food. He was a kid, and he had been struggling for a very long time now. The Capitol was slowly making its way back to what it was before the war, but it was taking longer than expected.
Tigris was out, trying to trade some of the gold earrings from Grandma’am for wood, for the upcoming winter.
At the rough age of twelve, Coriolanus Snow had been growing impatient to get older, get into University, and give his family a better life. He already knew how to disguise his lack of wealth and how to fit in with his classmates. Coriolanus had no friends, just people to blend in.
He carefully closed the door from Pluribus’ place when someone opened the door from inside, pulling him backward, and making him trip.
“Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry- Coriolanus Snow?” He heard a soft female voice and when he stood up, he finally saw you.
“Y/n?…” He grew worried, wondering if any other classmates were around, hoping to be wrong, as he didn’t want to be seen.
“Hi…” you awkwardly said.
Coriolanus was indifferent to you. He disliked how he often heard you gossiping with your friends. He disliked how you always participated in debates and readings, finding it annoying. And most important, he knew you were born capitol but your family was once District 1 generations ago. You were no daughter of elite members.
“What are you doing here?” The boy asked.
You weren’t expecting to see him there. Pluribus’ customers were always… poor people, hungry. So when you saw the brown bag with two cabbages and some potatoes in Coriolanus’ bag, you didn’t even need to question.
“I come here to trade my mother’s designs for food.” Coriolanus never thought you were in a situation similar to him.
“My father served in the war, he got injured and couldn’t keep working, and my mother quit her job to take care of him. We don’t have much but we are surviving…” you added shamelessly, Coriolanus was jealous that you weren’t afraid of revealing the truth, something he couldn’t.
“I won’t tell anyone I saw you here, Coriolanus. If that’s what you want” you added after seeing him judging you quietly, giving a cold look. You had the idea of him being serious and a young man of few words, no doubt he was.
“Can I trust you?” He asked, thinking he sounded so dumb.
“I have no reason to spread details of your life. So yes, you can trust me…”
“Okay…”
“I live on the Corso…” you said and without thinking, Coriolanus smiled more than he should have.
“Me too!” His excited tone made you feel relieved.
“Can you imagine both of us living in the same place?” You asked cheerfully. Coriolanus doubted it.
“I don’t think so…”
Oh but how mistaken was he? Not only do you two live on the Corso, but you also live in the same building. He had the penthouse and your parents owned the floor below.
Coriolanus was taken aback by how calm and excited you were as you showed him your house.
The boy learned quickly that your family was doing better than his. You had a lot of things, your room had exotic wallpapers, and a lamp made of feathers was even affordable.
For the first time, Coriolanus felt like he could actually enjoy meeting someone new. Even better if it was in his safe space, his home, and the source of his identity.
And that’s how you turned out to be the only person Coriolanus allowed to know about his situation.
Exactly five years later, Coriolanus was coming back from the market where he had traded a watch for some black dressing pants. Even though the Plinth Prize had been only announced two days ago, Coriolanus was already thinking about clothing for the occasion. He was out of breath by the time he hit your floor. And he was not going to stop by your place but he grew curious when he saw you tending a big piece of dark grey crinkled fabric. You had your long hair curled up, wearing slippers, a nightgown, and a robe.
He smiled, wondering how important could that fabric be to not acknowledge him.
“What you got there?” You quickly looked up, slightly embarrassed that Coriolanus caught you in your pajamas.
“I know it’s early, but my mom and I had an idea for a set. In case you know-“ you feel like you sound very narcissistic, hinting that you could possibly win the Plinth prize. Coriolanus and you were exceptional in school. And the only “friends” you could count were Clemensia, Festus, and Sejanus, although they were slightly behind you and the blonde.
“I had the same idea,” Coriolanus said, walking closer, showing you the black pants in his arm.
You smile at him, feeling reassured that you both thought the same. You knew the young man judged you once. But now, he had no reason to. Or so you believed.
He was very close to turning eighteen in the first months of the approaching year, you had also thought about buying him a present.
“Come inside. I need to tell you something…” he nodded, but gulped, thinking the worst.
You shut the door and Coriolanus noticed it smelled sweet.
“Oh, I’m baking something… I would like to share it with you and your family” The boy blushed at you noticing how hungry he was and also because it was very kind of you to share given the circumstances.
“You don’t have to, y/n”
“But I want to.…” he rolled his eyes, chuckling, tenderly accepting your good intentions.
“I don’t have anything to give you back. But we made a promise. Remember?” You nod, smiling softly at him.
Coriolanus is your best friend. Although Clemensia, Festus, and even Arachne were close friends, no one compared to Coryo.
“I do, but…”
“No, y/n. No matter what, we are splitting the prize. Both of us are going to university together.” He seriously said.
In the most inconvenient way, Coriolanus had found an ally. He knew most of his classmates since he was a little child, but after getting to know you, he understood it wasn’t the same. He was grateful for having you.
“That’s why I wanted to talk to you. Sit…” Coriolanus walked towards your kitchen table. He realized your parents were gone. Which made him wonder where were they.
The place smelled like corn syrup and roses. Deep down, probably those two were his favorite things. He craved sweet things and the roses reminded him of his mother and her powder.
“So?…” he inquired, you were a little busy placing some towels on the table.
“My mother found a job in a fabric store, in a couple of weeks she’ll be able to refer Tigris. She’ll be able to leave the work with Fabricia” his eyes went wide, a smile immediately growing on his face.
“And not only that. My father accepted to work as a secretary in the offices of the Capitol’s congress” he couldn’t be jealous of the success of your parents when they were offering to help Tigris. He went up to give you a hug.
“That’s great news, dear” you hugged him back. He smelled like cedar and roses. You remembered the flowers his grandmother sent the day before.
“If things go right. My father could get us a job there after the Academy. And we’d have more money to pay the university’s tuition” he nodded, unconsciously hiding his face in your neck. The closure made you blush, it wasn’t like you and the boy hugged very often. But you appreciated it.
“I have faith we’ll have a bright future, Coryo. I really do”
“Thank you, for everything you and your family have done,” the blonde said.
“You are like family too. It’s nothing…” you reply, breaking the hug to check at the oven.
Coriolanus eyes you. He catches the smell of your hair, patchouli, and herbs. He smiles, looking at your clean face and old nightgown. He can’t deny you’ve grown into a gorgeous woman. But he blocks the thoughts from flowing further.
“I made bread pudding.” You knew it was his favorite.
And his smile only grew. When Tigris had the chance to steal from Fabricia and his waste, she made a classical bread pudding. But you were able to do a more sophisticated one. With cherry blossom powder that your mother had. The bread was more wet and less like fudge. Coriolanus loved it ever since he tried back two years during the holidays.
“I’m really liking this day” he admits, making you chuckle as you place the dessert literally in his face.
Reaping day wasn’t your favorite. You didn’t hate the districts but you didn’t like how they tried to destroy the Capitol. Nonetheless, the Hunger Games weren’t part of your fond morals. Having the privilege of being a mentor for the first time ever in the history of the games, wasn’t as exciting as it sounded. The only good thing is that it would lead to being closer to knowing who won the Plinth prize.
Months had passed and the day had finally arrived. You slipped into the two-piece set your mother made for you. A blazer and a long circle skirt in dark grey. An old pair of black boots that belonged to your grandmother and were in excellent condition, the leather felt nice and the heels added elegance to your outfit.
You never felt intimidated by not being part of the elite and being considered “poor” and it tore you to see Coriolanus feel like he wasn’t enough. Like the grate was of his last name had to loosen power.
So when you called him through the phone to see if he was ready, he said you should go first, showing a display of a little panic attack because Tigris hadn’t returned with the shirt he was to wear.
As much as you protested and said you would wait for him, he made you leave saying you couldn’t be late.
So you did.
When you stepped out of the building, you encountered Persephone, Coriolanus’ neighbor. The blonde had said once that Persephone and Clemensia were probably the prettiest girls from class. Which made you feel terrible but you ignored it from the moment it happened.
“Hey… Are you ready for today?” She asked.
“Yes… totally” You weren’t happy, to be honest, but you showed her your best smile.
“Why is Coriolanus not with you? He’s always attached to you…” the comment makes you smile nervously. Although you knew most of your classmates and had literally grown up along them, you never knew what kind of assimilation they had about you and Coriolanus.
“Oh, he woke up late. I wanted to wait for him, but he literally obliged me to go on” Persephone giggled, urging you to cross the street.
“That boy is head over heels for you…”
“Oh my goodness, Persephone. That’s not true…” she laughs, her lilac makeup and crimson lips making her look even more pretty.
“Trust me, y/n… There are even bets on the year you two will tie the knot!” Her comment makes you so embarrassed.
“We’re here!” You say changing the subject.
Heavensbee Hall is full of students and faculty. A lot of them say to you because it wasn’t a secret that your friendly demeanor and good grades made you more popular than Persephone.
When make it to the talk with Felix, Festus, and Arachne, you spot Clemensia entering the event along with Coriolanus.
At first glance, you tried to ignore the mixed feelings you caught after Persephone’s comments and seeing the man you quietly doted on the girl he considered the most beautiful.
“That can’t be y/n y/l/n! That’s a model!” you finally turn when you hear Clemmie, which makes you smile shyly.
Coriolanus finally spots you and he gulps. Every day, he saw you wearing opaque tones. He knew you craved vivid colors and exotic makeup, your mother was an unemployed fashion designer after all. Having the chance to wear elegant clothes and highlighting your skin with splotches of berry colors was a sight for Coriolanus. His hands felt sweaty and numb, a familiar feeling he started developing whenever you were close.
He walked straight towards you, taking a last sip of the posca he disliked. You smile at him, accommodating the rosebud attached to his heart. The action caught the attention of all your classmates and friends, who quietly gossiped or exchanged looks.
“That’s a gorgeous shirt, Coryo” he smiled.
“Tigris and your mother are my saviors” he whispered in your ear, which sent shivers to you.
You and your friends are called out to take a seat as the reaping is about to start. You end up seated between Coriolanus and Sejanus. And suddenly you find yourself lost in your thoughts, wondering who you would be mentoring. It’s all you could truly think about since you woke up. But suddenly, Coriolanus makes you come back to life.
“It’s going to be okay…” he said to which you replied with a little smile.
“By the way, you look very pretty…” your heart pounds as he whispers in your ear for the second time. Your smile grows along the blush creeping on your face.
“Really?” You feel so stupid after asking that. You didn’t want him to think you needed validation.
“Every day you look pretty, but I rarely see you with color in your face” he admits and it sends you to death the fact that he proceeded to grab your hand and give it a squeeze.
He didn’t know why he did that, but it felt right.
Something weird happened, you both felt a spark.
Watching kids fighting for their lives in the most gruesome way wasn’t appealing. Your eyes are on the little girl from District 8, your tribute; Wovey. The last time you saw her in the zoo before the games started, she made you cry so badly. She was just a little girl and the fact that she had smiled at you, saying how beautiful your dress was, made you understand every word Sejanus said.
The districts deserved to pay? Yes. But why not make them pay extra taxes, or limit their supplies? Why do you have to scavenge food for a little girl who is likely to die?
Sejanus had walked out after seeing what happened to his tribute. The bloodbath had been disgusting to watch. And as the hours pass as you sit along Coriolanus and other classmates watching your tributes, the weight of the events that happened on the previous days hit you. The moment you saw the rainbow-ruffled skirt from Lucy Gray Baird, you knew it would mark a before and after.
It was like her appearance in Coriolanus’ life had worsened everything for everyone surrounding him. First was Arachne, then Clemensia, whose image still haunted you with the scales and yellow eyes. Then the rebel bombing. It had been a long time since felt fear. You felt alone because you protected Wovey. But nobody protected you. The blurred sight of Coriolanus clinging to the ruffles of Lucy Gray’s skirt and calling for her as the medics took him away was very present.
You look down at your lap, the skirt of the uniform was on, but not the pants, since your leg was still bandaged from the burns you suffered the day of the bombing.
There’s a drift between you and Coriolanus since the day of the reaping. He appeared at the zoo and at night told you it wasn’t planned, he practically ignored you whenever he visited Lucy Gray but squeezed your hand the day of Arachne’s funeral. He confided to you what happened with Clemensia but refused to console you when she appeared in the hospital while you took care of Coriolanus.
The only good thing is that your parents were making a name. They were getting popular and you loved seeing them happy. Unfortunately, just as they were finding happiness, you were losing it.
You kept losing friend after friend. Clemensia ignored you moments before the games started. Arachne was gone, and Sejanus looked beyond depressed. And Coriolanus was falling for District scum.
How could he even inquire if the songbird was almost Capitol during the interviews?
Maybe you were a hypocrite for claiming Sejanus as a friend, who once was District and called it his home. But you despised Lucy Gray for wearing the clothes and makeup you craved, for being naturally charming and unconsciously revolving around most of your problems.
You have been quiet for hours, only having eyes for little Wovey.
Coriolanus glances at you frequently. And he can see the sad look on your face. He couldn’t ignore you had been changed since the reaping. The happy and positive girl he knew was slowly morphing into some lost panicked mentor.
The moment the games started, Coriolanus realized how hard it was for you to look after Wovey, one of the youngest tributes he had seen. The guilt of being such a bad friend started rubbing him in the wrong way.
Which is why he found himself constantly looking at you to see how you were doing.
But when he looks back, you’re gone. Most of the people watching the first day are gone.
It’s just Dr. Gaul telling him Sejanus entering the arena.
The tension was escalating. Coriolanus couldn’t sleep, not even with the cold shower that resulted nice for the heat. All he could think was about Sejanus and him running for their lives. He killed a boy. There was blood on his hands. He desperately called you but you didn’t answer. He went to bed thinking of Lucy Gray hiding in the arena and you practically ignoring him. And just when he was about to doze off with the memory of the kiss Lucy Gray gave him, his eyes opened abruptly.
He remembered the promise you two made.
When he walked back to Heavensbee Hall for the second day of the games, he could hear Lucky Flickerman giving the broadcast. He went straight to you, firstly noticing how you caressed your knuckles, showing that you were anxious.
“Could you sleep?” He asked, taking a seat beside you. You glanced at him, only to bow your head, back to your knuckles.
“I took some pills…” he frowned, confused.
“Pills?…”
“It’s nothing, Coryo. Just melatonin pills, to help me sleep well.” He nodded, not fully convinced.
“I’m sorry for being… distant,” he said, to which you shrugged, crossing your arms.
“It’s okay. We all have acquired different problems since the reaping. You have just been busy with your rainbow girl” Your tone distilled bitterness when you mentioned Lucy Gray, which didn’t go unnoticed by Coriolanus.
“When one of the two of us wins, it’ll be like before, but better.” he knew it wouldn’t.
“It’ll never be the same. Arachne is gone, Clemesia out of herself, Sejanus defying Gaul, the Ring twins' death… You’re already changing” he quickly took your hand, ignoring the way some people could be looking at him.
“I’m not. We’re family… you’re special. And I will always fight for you, y/n” his comment lit a fire inside you. You give him a little smile. But he knows you’re still blue.
Right when he was closer to admitting he had feelings for you, Lucy Gray appeared, withdrawing any plan he could have. And now he was confused about you.
Perhaps you only saw him as your best friend. Which is why he didn’t suppress the emotions Lucy Gray made him feel.
No-no, no, no, no, no… NO!
Every mentor and attendant in Heavensbee Hall heard you whisper until you literally screamed. The little Wovey had drank the water with poison. Tears immediately swelled in your eyes and you stood up, splashing the room with sorrow.
Even Capitol people felt emotional about the little girl slowly dying unbeknownst to her. Even Livia Cardew looked at you with empathy when you walked past her.
Even Clemensia, briefly looked at Coriolanus silently asking if she should go to follow you, but he told her he was going.
And he did. He followed you outside the room, finding you on one of the stairs leading to another hallway. Your hands covered your face, but he could hear you sobbing.
You felt terrible. You knew Wovey was likely to die, but that didn’t stop the pain. Adding all the strong emotions you’ve dealt with in the past days made you explode.
You just wanted your best friend. Regardless of his unrequited feelings, you needed him.
And he magically appeared.
When you wiped your eyes, he approached you. He took a seat beside you and caressed your shoulder.
“You’re not okay.” He said, to which you shook your head.
“I’m feeling the same as you. Only that I’m a crier and you’re not…” Coriolanus briefly smiled, appreciating your profile.
He faced the woman who knew all of him. The only woman that could ever understand him. And the only one who would care for him enough aside from his family.
“You were closer to Arachne than me. With Clemensia too. And your tribute was closer to being a baby again than she was to become a teenager…” new tears poured down and Coriolanus cursed himself for making you cry again.
“Is she finally gone?…” he nodded at you.
“You have to win, Coryo. You must win… This suffering must be worth it for one of us at least”
“If I win, you’re also in. We said it the day the prize was announced. We’re in this together…” Once again, he grabbed your hand again. And just when he was about to move away because you weren’t reciprocating the touch, you caressed his fingers, interlocking your hand with his.
“Lately I’ve been missing you a lot…” you confessed and it nearly made him blush.
“Why?…” it was dumb but he needed to hear something, he needed to comprehend.
“Well…. Because I need you, Coriolanus” his heart thumping and shaky hands prevented him from doing something stupid, but he offered you a lovely smile that you reciprocated.
He was about to say… “I need you too, y/n. Let me kiss you so I can accept whatever I feel for Lucy Gray is a whim”.
But he couldn’t. Because Festus appeared, looking for you two.
“Dr. Gaul wants you two back…” he said.
“Thanks, Festus” you thanked him.
And all the way to the room of commands, Coriolanus held your hand.
When the snakes landed on the arena of the games, Coriolanus stood up. When Lucy Gray was officially the winner, he went running to Tigris. But when he spun to hug you, he didn’t contain.
He grabbed your face and leaned to kiss you. The crowd cheered even harder, believing you two would officially begin a romance after years of uncertainty. You kissed him back, savoring the moment and feeling glad you didn’t give up on him.
“We won, y/n.” He whispered in your lips.
“We won, Coryo” You smiled, out of breath, and kissed him again.
His brain wasn’t thinking clearly. Coriolanus had messed up everything. He was being punished for his lies. Serving as a peacekeeper and leaving the Capitol was one thing. But for 20 years?
Perhaps he could follow Lucy Gray to District 12, just to see how was she. But 20 years was too long… especially when you were the woman he intended to marry one day.
He could say goodbye to his place in the University, he could say goodbye to paying the tax of his home. And he certainly could say goodbye to you.
But his biggest fear was that he slipped out you had the idea of the rat poison. Coriolanus was aware you said it vaguely, and he never told you he actually cheated.
As he walked out of Highbottom’s office, completely downcast, wondering how he would break down the news.
“Hey… Are you okay?” His nervousness grew as he watched you walk escorted by two peacekeepers.
“What are you doing?” You shrugged.
“Dr. Gaul wants to see me…” Coriolanus frowned. Was the lunatic going to punish you?
“And you? What are you doing here?” he bit his tongue. He couldn’t tell you yet. But probably it would be worse to wait and tell you in the morning, just when he was supposed to leave for the districts.
“The dean… he wanted to talk to me about the disbursement of the prize”
The guilt started killing him the moment you smiled at him. You leaned, stepped on your tiptoes, and gave him a gentle peck.
It took him by surprise, but caressed your cheeks and kissed you back.
“I’ll see you at home?….” He nodded, pressing his forehead with yours, knowing he probably wouldn’t see you again. His eyes watered and he tried to stop time.
But it was inevitable because you gave him one last smile and you passed by him, followed by the peacekeepers.
Chills assaulted him, but he thought everything was going to be okay. At least for you.
For a couple of days, he was able to forget about you. But soon when Sejanus asked how were, the guilt felt like a bucket of ice blocks falling all over him.
He lied, saying you were okay. But Lucy Gray knew he wasn’t being truthful. Coriolanus confessed to her. The songbird found it very hard to admit that Coriolanus’ true love was you. Perhaps he followed her to her home, he was making her happy. But the blonde was Capitol, he would always prefer his people and his girl.
“You have waited too long, darling. Please call her and at least apologize” she said throwing some rocks at the lake in front of them.
“She’s probably mad at me…”
“More the reason to fight for her” Coriolanus glanced at her confused. But Lucy Gray rolled her eyes playfully.
“Look…” she reached for a purple flower. She cut it and showed it to Coriolanus.
“From what I’ve heard of y/n… is that she is important. You said once she’s your best friend. Think of her like this flower, which is a hydrangea. They have medicinal properties and they are very pretty… but they’re delicate. So I think you would prefer to keep her nurtured. Because she’s special…” Coriolanus sighed.
He couldn’t say to Lucy Gray he was scared of losing you because it would mean that all he did the moment he bribed the secretary of the military deferment wasn’t worth it. He came to the twelve because he wanted to be with Lucy Gray, but he had some unresolved feelings for you.
It was so confusing.
“I’ll call her tomorrow during my break…” Lucy Gray nodded, knowing that after that call many things could change. But it was the right thing to do. Because you were innocent.
The jabberjays awakened something inside him. The possibility of finding a reason to be sent back to the Capitol sounded very attractive. But all was forgotten when he requested to call your apartment. In the same building, he called home.
He gulped nervously before a female voice picked up the call. Your mother.
“Hello?” She asked.
“Mrs. Y/l/n… It’s Coriolanus” she sighed, the blonde could almost see her nodding.
“Oh, Coriolanus. What a surprise to hear from you…”
“I guess y/n told you I was sent to serve as a peacekeeper” he admitted, surprised to hear your mother didn’t want to kill him for hurting you.
”Coriolanus… y/n has been sick since the day the hunger games closed” he frowned, holding the phone closer to his ear.
“What?…”
“Apparently she was working in the laboratories in the Citadel with Dr. Gaul. She caught a virus and has been quarantined. I’m so desperate to see her again. Her father has been asking but Dr. Gaul says she’ll be fine in a couple of weeks.”
Coriolanus immediately thought back on Clemensia and the “flu” she caught. But now, it was ten times worse.
Did Gaul punish you for helping him to cheat in the games? Were you dead?
His hands started shaking.
“As soon as I’m back in the Capitol. I’ll try to ask for more information. She’ll be okay…” he tried to soothe your mother, but he was already freaking out.
So he didn’t have situate to send jabberjays with the recording of Sejanus revealing his rebel plans. All so he could go back to you.
He didn’t regret it. Because as soon as he stepped into the Citadel, back at home, it felt right.
“Welcome back to the Capitol, Mr. Snow,” said Dr. Gaul, tending her water mutts and giving him a sadic smile.
He stood silent for a couple of seconds. Debating whether to ask you or not.
“I know what you’re thinking about, boy,” she said, walking down the stairs of the mutt's cage.
Coriolanus remained silent, carefully eyeing her.
“She couldn’t get away if she was also guilty for putting in your head that silly idea for you to cheat during the games” he gulped, nervous.
“Have you talked with her parents?”
“Just with her mother once. They think she’s sick and will be fine in a couple of weeks. But they’re worried…” he admitted, trying to act relaxed.
“Oh sure they are worried. I heard the man is going straight to the president’s cabinet. And the mother, already spreading her wings in the fashion tendencies…” Coriolanus wasn’t aware that during his time away your parents had spent all of their time working to try to not worry too much about you. To gain power and find a quicker way to be with you.
“I didn’t know…”
“She was very angry when she learned you had lied to her…”
How was he supposed to keep his composure with that talk?
“I never intended to hurt her” he hated to admit that. He couldn’t be vulnerable. But it crumbled just because it was about you.
“Ah, young love. It’s so dangerous because it makes us weak…”
“Is she alive?…” he tried to change the subject.
“You just have to say you want her back and she’ll be in the Capitol’s hospital in a couple of days” he grew more worried.
“She can’t die… or stop being her”
“The snakes in your other friend really triggered you…” Gaul mocked, laughing.
With that lunatic mentoring him, he had to pull out a stronger card. Something that would compromise him as well so she had no choice but to let you go at once.
“I intend to marry her.” The woman stopped laughing, only to look at him, trying to find the lie in his words, but there wasn’t.
“Brave girl to conquer the heart of a Snow…” and with that, she started walking towards another room in the big laboratory.
The room of voxels and human mutations. He grew anxious until Dr. Gaul pointed out a big water tank.
Coriolanus holds a big breath of terror. He tries his best to remain still. But he felt fear. Just when he thought nothing could ever hurt him again, he had to encounter you in the worst possible way.
“What a shame, she was responding very well. Even looks like a mythological monster”
“Is she going to be… human again?”
“With patience, yes. I’ll let you know when we move her to the hospital. It would be nice if you gave the news to her parents. You know, given you’re the reason she almost ended up with a mermaid tail.”
There rested your naked unconscious body, almost completely covered in salmon scales. Your legs seemed to be slowly disappearing, as the scales were tangling them from your hips to your knees. Your hair was matted and your lashes seemed oddly long.
Coriolanus walked home. He couldn’t take the trolley. The walk seemed short, even with the approaching winter. Your image was haunting him. He couldn’t keep the secret to Tigris when he came back home. He pretended to have a giant smile on his face when he blurted that the Plinths made him heir of their fortune. And he tried to ignore the memory of the elevator indicating the name of your floor.
“But she’s going to be okay?” Tigris asked worried.
“Dr. Gaul said so…”
“I thought she was busy trying to get into the university… her parents rarely appeared to be around too”
Coriolanus remembered what he said back in the laboratory.
“I told Dr. Gaul I’m marrying her” Her cousin opened her eyes in disbelief.
“So she could release her?”
“Yes. But also because… I always thought of it.”
“Are you conscious she’s likely to be mad at you for leaving without answers?” Coriolanus nodded, knowing very well you had plenty of reasons to hate him. But there was no going back.
”Very aware…”
“Then you’ll show her again the fine man you are. You remind her why you were best friends.” He was no good man. He killed people to get to the top. But he wouldn’t be that man to you. You were the only one who could possibly understand him and keep his filthy secrets.
“Snow lands on top” Tigris whispered.
Coriolanus turned to look at a picture of you. He and his family love you so much, you had your own portrait in the Snow Penthouse. The first your mother designed was pink and you wore it. You were always very pretty to the eyes of everyone. But only at that moment Coriolanus appreciated your beauty. The he looked at another picture, the one of you two during the reaping ceremony. His tailored shirt and your handmade clothes. That girl and boy were long gone.
But Coriolanus had done so much damage to step back. With Sejanus and Highbottom gone, he had secured a place in the Capitol. Lucy Gray couldn’t hurt him anymore. All he had to do was to win the girl that once belonged to him.
Giving one last look at the picture of you two, he smiled.
“Snow lands on top…” he answered back to Tigris.

Lucky Strike 🎯 🎱 - PRESENT - III
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PREVIOUS CHAPTER
Pairing: Benny Cross (Bikeriders) X Reader
Summary: You and Benny reconnect and learn a little about your lives here and now.
Warning: Allusions to troubled pasts and excessive alcoholism.
Word count: 2K
Tumblr media
Heart racing, Benny drives the speed limit for once in his life. He prays against seeing any cops on the way to the cemetery. There was no time to wear anything aside from his colours to make the funeral, to see you. He didn’t know if there would be another chance to see you in person. After the reaction from the guys he wanted to see your transformation for himself. Approaching the gates he slows to a stop looking at the old cemetery gates, the vision of something from a horror film. Rows of wooden crosses and poorly made headstones. A final resting place for those who didn’t accumulate enough wealth to end their time in a nice place. A touch too nice of a final resting place for the man being buried but alas it wasn’t his choice to make. Getting off his bike he waits at the gates instead of causing a commotion. Looking across the flatland Benny finds a small congregation of people and hears a wailing woman. The people pass heading into cars shakily with a few men leaving you there looking onto the plot of dirt. Benny didn’t understand why you’d come all this way. Your father had been a monster and you knew that intimately. The cars clear out and the people disperse before Benny makes his way to your side. There are whispers and looks as he walks on the gravel road. He finds you looking down at the freshly tossed on the ground where your boogieman is being laid to rest. He knows it’s you because unlike everyone else you’re dressed to the nines. You smile knowing its him at the sight of worn boots next to your shoes. Nothing needs to be said, you rest your head on his shoulder and his hand finds yours instinctively.
“Good riddance” you mutter tossing the final carnation into his grave.
“Y/N?” The call comes from behind you. Letting go of Benny you turn to see the woman that sent for you. Your fathers new wife, the woman he decided to settle down with once the liver failure set in.
“We’re gonna head to the reception now.” Carla says looking Benny over with judgement and confusion. “Hello” she says only to get a nod from your oldest friend.
“Go on” you smile ignoring your grandmothers prying eyes along with everyone else who’d enabled your fathers deplorable behaviour making excuses for an abusive drunk.
“You came with us remember” Carla smiles.
“I know my way around” you mutter and reluctantly they leave before you take your first look at Benny. Smiling you see he’s grown out of the awkwardness and is even more gorgeous in person. He’s breathtaking. You throw yourself at him unable to contain your excitement and Benny catches you lifting you off the ground as he holds you tight spinning you around. You laugh and squeal like a kid again overwhelmed to see him alive and well.
“So you’re an outlaw now?” You smile pinching his cheek and pulling away to get a better look at him.
“Yeah” he smiles from ear to ear. There you are holding onto each others hands again like before your mothers ripped you a part.
“You look good in leather” you laugh touching his kutte.
“You just look good” Benny laughs and it’s a wonder he’s as gorgeous as he is.
“Thanks” you beam starry eyed, happy to have found him again all these years later. “It’s really you” you laugh and Benny nods as you hold onto his arms.
“And it’s you” he says kissing your forehead in a warm gesture. There’s another hug, this one less hyperactive but just as meaningful.
“So it was you who posted my bail?” Benny asks.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about” you lie but Benny knows better.
“What happened to our truth truce?” Benny asks bringing back fond memories.
“I saw you on TV and went down the the precinct,” you confess.
“Thank you, I’ll send you the money” he says far out of his depths.
“I wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for you. The money’s nothing” you respond holding his hand. Every good memory from your childhood is with Benny. And that’s worth way more to you than $250 you would’ve spent carelessly.
“So what you’re hit the lottery?” He asks.
“My Ma did. She’s married to an old guy who’s very well off. He has no daughters and always wanted one.” You explain.
“You married?” Benny asks.
“Will be next valentines day” you tell Benny but your smile doesn’t touch your eyes.
“He a good man?” Benny asks.
“Decent, comes from a good family and makes good money. He works a lot so I have a lot of freedom. It’s nice” you smile.
“Doesn’t sound like you’re in love” Benny comments as you arrive at his bike.
“Think any of them would love me if they knew I came from this?” You ask looking around at the dead end cemetery in a dead end town. “I don’t have the privilege of being delusional to how the world works Benny. Besides what would someone like me know about love?” you ask tickled. It was like old times so fast.
“I thought that’s what women do all day, daydream about love and marriage” Benny shrugs and you scoff.
“Don’t think Benny” you laugh shaking your head as you look him over again. The pull to him is so magnetic. He smiles at your playful jab and you walk into his arms again.
“I don’t much” he confesses holding you tight. He kisses the top of your head taking in your perfume.
“I missed you Benny” you confess looking up at him.
“I missed you too. How long are you here?” Benny asks.
“A week, the folks brought me down here to run me dry and have me pay off the drunks depts” you explain.
Benny raises a brow,“Who’s he owe?”
“Couple of bars,” you shake your head at how nothing had changed.
“I’ll take care of it” Benny promises sitting on his bike. You look him over again and it makes you smile that he’s alright. You hug him again overwhelmed by how happy you are to see him.
“Benny, I’ve missed you so much.” You repeat his arms again, in your whole life there’d never been a person like Benny. He was your right hand, he always fought for you, stood with you, made you feel safe. Its something even riches can’t compare to. “Tell me everything!” Your excitement is contagious and Benny’s eyes sparkle.
“What about the reception?” He asks.
“I’m not going. I’m happy he’s dead - better off that way” you confess making Benny smile.
“How are you gonna ride in a dress?” Benny asks pointing to his bike. Rolling your eyes you get on making use of the length and space for your legs in the a line dress. When you're comfortable Benny tries withholding his smile as he gets on. “Don’t let go” he says challenging you.
He starts the engine and then tears off. Letting go you throw your hands off and scream out in excitement. The two of you had been kindreds and no stranger to living on the edge together. You have more to live for than the average person after spending your childhood terrified and powerless. Benny finds himself laughing at your bravery, admiring that you were fearless too or that you just trusted him. When you arrive at the clubhouse there are a slew of bikes parked out front. You're sure your hair is in a state and you manage to fix in Benny’s rearview mirrors. The guys whistle some more until Benny shoots them glares that says take it easy.
“Look who’s back” Johnny smiles.
“I’ve never been around so many degenerates,” you comment making the boys hush. You laugh at their sensitivity when they all get serious. “ You ought to show me how you really party!” you smile at Johnny encouraging the bad behaviour. The boys hoot and holler bringing on the drinks and debauchery. Billiards, darts, drinking games you name it they’re partaking with the exception of Johnny. Wild as they think they are, the boys have nothing on the party boys at college with the exception of metal and leather. You enjoy their company and the clubs camaraderie. They try to impress you but none of them could ever mean anything more than friendship to your heart. Benny watches as you embrace all of the Vandals, laughing and talking with them. Encouraging their drinking games, listening to their stories and not playing too precious. He watches from afar giving you space as you trow a few shots back. His heart grew warm seeing you smiling and carefree. On the outside no one would ever expect you’ve come from what you did. But you don’t rest on those laurels, embracing the good and disposing of the bottom. You have no airs and graces and Benny admires that. When the nights over you can barely walk in a straight line, for once - Benny’s as sober as a judge.
“Take my car” Johnny tells Benny tossing him the keys, knowing the back of a bike is unsafe for you right now. “You're a real treat Y/N, pleasure to meet you” Johnny says shaking your hand.
“Likewise and take care of Benny” you sway a little before getting in.
“We will, take care love” Johnny smirks shutting your door.
The minute the car pulls off the motion is too much and you hurl out the window.
“Drive!!!!” You shout between your retching. You don’t want the guys to see you weak. Benny drives until you can turn a corner and you’re finally finished. The consequences of your actions have wasted no time. Benny removes his leather and then takes off his t-shirt before using it to clean off your face and the back of your wrist with an amused smirk.
“First time drinking?” He asks as you sit on the curb.
“Like that, YEAH!” you confess and he chuckles having a seat beside you. If he’d been a dreamer even his dreams couldn’t have imagined you to be any better. Looking him over you see he’s got defined muscles now and an impressive frame.
“How are you feeling” he asks after sitting with you for a few minutes. Looking up at the streetlights you sigh deeply before looking back at Benny.
“Like I’ve been holding my breath for all these years and I can finally exhale” you confess. Taking your hand Benny kisses it with understanding eyes before pulling you in against his warm skin on the hot summer night. The slow steady beat of his heart, synced perfectly with yours is proof he knows exactly how you feel.
“Come on let’s get you back to the hotel” he mumbles getting up before he can help you. He gets the passenger door for you shutting it when you get in. The ride to the hotel feels too short and you sit in the car silent for a few moments before reaching for the door.
“Do you have somewhere to be?” You ask Benny.
“No” he shakes his head and you nod holding out a hand. He gets looks again as he holds your hand heading into the hotel’s fancy elevator. Your room is up high and he’s never seen a view like that. You open the fridge and get him a soda before calling room service to order burgers and dogs. Benny looks around feeling insecure as he sees your normal. He gets the food from the door while you freshen up from your sickness on the way. When you return without any make-up or finery his heart swells.
“What?”
“You’re gorgeous” Benny compliments.
“Thanks, Benny” you smile having a fry. “Now tell me everything” you say again and he does. You talk about everything in your life until sunrise when you fall asleep together on the hotel rooms kingsized bed.

your pregnancy ficlets are super sweet! How about Halsin finding out tav is pregnant 🥰
Halsin would/does make the best dad. When he was worried about the kids not getting a bedtime story from him I wanted to cry. I go feral for big ol’ guys with a soft heart, and he’s like the poster man for that.

♡ Halsin | Pregnancy - Fluff
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the midst of a small flower field, bathed in the golden rays of the sun, you sat in the forest. Halsin, in his bear form, approaches you silently, attempting to surprise you. But as always, you are keenly aware of his presence. Chuckling softly to yourself you continue plucking a pink flower, and with a playful tone you remark, "You'd have better luck sneaking up on me if you were a cat, you know."
Halsin nudges your back gently with his large furry head, emitting a low, affectionate grunt as he settles down beside you. Resting against his solid form, you're enveloped in a unique comfort only he can provide, afterall, it’s not everyday someone gets with a bear. Twirling the flower wreath you've been weaving, you muse, "I'm considering changing these to yellow blossoms, what do you think?" You glance at him, your look soft and affectionate as he cocks his head, ears perked, you know his bearish confusion was a silent compliment to your creation.
Your laughter is light as your fingers trace the fur between his eyes. "Yellow's quite the neutral choice," Halsin watches you, his gaze intent, absorbing every word you speak, “Hmm, or maybe I should do white instead, but that’s just- no. That’s a terrible idea.” He continues to listen, studying your expression intently, as if trying to decipher the message behind your words.
“If it's a boy," you continue, your eyes lingering on the wreath, "I don't think he'd appreciate all these shades of pink." Your gaze meets Halsin's, a playful glimmer in your eyes. "And if it's a girl, well, pink seems to be the only answer. But how am I supposed to know? I'm no seer." You raise an eyebrow, your eyes searching his face. Suddenly, his wide brown eyes illuminate, and in a burst of radiant energy, Halsin stands before you, transformed back into his glorious elven body. "Is it true? You spoke of the truth just now?" he asks, his voice filled with awe and excitement.
Joining him in standing, a smile spreads across your face, and you nod, uttering the words he longed to hear, "It's true, my love." Unable to contain his joy, Halsin bursts into laughter, engulfing you in his arms as he spins you around, expressing his elation in that moment of pure bliss.
Halsin's laughter fills the forest as he spins you around, his joy palpable in the warm embrace. "By the Great Oak Father!" he exclaims, his eyes shining with happiness. You both come to a stop, and Halsin cups your face in his hands, his expression overflowing with love. "Our love, our bond, will be forever sealed in this precious life."
The forest and flowers around you seemed to come alive with vibrant colors, the gentle breeze carrying the sweet scent of the blooms. It feels as if though nature is celebrating alongside you.
As the initial rush of excitement settles, Halsin lowers himself to one knee, holding your hand close to him. "My heart, I promise to be there for you and our child every step of the way. I will protect and cherish both of you with all that I am."
Tears of joy well up in your eyes as you meet his gaze. "And I promise to stand by your side, Halsin, as I always have.”
Halsin's grin widens as he rises from his knee, his eyes never leaving yours. "I have no doubt that we will raise a child who embodies both the strength of the wild and the wisdom of the druids. They will be surrounded by love, nature, and the embrace of the elements."
With hearts filled with excitement and anticipation, you and Halsin spend the rest of the day in the forest, basking in the joy of your upcoming journey as parents. As the sun sets, casting a mesmerizing glow across the landscape, you can't help but feel an incredible sense of gratitude for the life growing within you and the love that binds you both together.

Okay so assuming there is absolutely nothing going on come Halloween night, no ancient threats or out of nowhere invasions or anything, which of the HoM would be up for trick-or-trwating, from most to least hyped?
These 6 would be especially excited for trick-or-treat out of the lot!
Tumblr media
Their trick-or-treating would probably consist of them crashing people's homes (enemies and friends alike) to play some harmless (or not) pranks in the spirit of Halloween.
Randy just in general enjoys Halloween and dressing up. Danny is more excited to have Halloween fun with people not from Amity Park (or more like fun to mess with people who are actually afraid/get scared of ghosts unlike most of Amity citizens). Ben and Jun just likes any excuse to mess with people. While Zak and Rex are all up to have some relatively 'normal' fun with a group of friends (something they didnt have many opportunities for when they were younger).
The other three wouldn't mind joining them, but they would be more excited about hosting a big Halloween Party!
Tumblr media
Kim, Jake and Jenny always sought out more social forms of holiday celebration, and they really would enjoy hosting a big party, open to all of their friends, be they magical, alien or human. Rex would also be incredibly excited (if not to actually host but to participate in it) because it is another 'normal' experience he never had a chance to get before.
Also can you imagine how rad the party would be???
There is also another thing two of them would be very excited about...
Haunted House/Maze.
Tumblr media
Danny and Ben would get into a contest of who could make a better Haunted House/Maze for the party (with some assistance from Randy and Rex).
As I said before, Danny, with all his ghostly powers and expertese would be excited to make a Haunted House for people outside of Amity Park. While Ben would probably rise the challenge to Danny's efforts, saying that he could make a scarier maze.
And the truth is, despite all the ghostly things Danny can do, Ben would make a very decent opposition (and for why, you really need to only refer to Ben 10:AF episode Above and Beyond, that kid can be very sinister lol).
So the party would end up with two haunted mazes, one themed around ghost /spirits /magic, and the other themed around horror movies/sci-fi/aliens, which would fit really well, considering the diversity of their friends. ;D
also i dressed them up like that because
Danny as Phantom, dressed as Fright Knight because i just keep thinking about the dude. Danny as Fenton, a low effort t-shirt because he would be spending more time as Phantom.
Randy as Sorcerer, because despite defeating him, Randy can admit that he was pretty freaking spooky.
Zak as Francis (agent clone boy), because they planned to crash their agency HQ and Zak knew it would annoy Francis.
Jun as Loki of Marvel Variety, because she knows it would annoy Taylor (their universe Loki's demigod son) and it just amuses her in general how popular and different a Marvel Loki is, compared to that Loki she knows and is imprisoned.
Kim as Warmonga, mostly because i wanted to dress her as one of her enemies, but didn't want to go easy way of dressing her up as Shego or Dr. Krakken.
Jenny as Vexus, because Vexus design slaps and i wanted to.
Ben, Rex and Jake went the low-effort easy route (because they are like that), with Jake just freely walking around as Dragon (and people complimenting him on his scaly suit lol), and Ben and Rex transforming freely and whenever the want.

The Last Dragon Slayer
This is what my brain gets up when I'm sick and can't sleep.
Enjoy!
~
50 years prior there were a rise in dragon habitations and to combat what the humans saw was an infestation trained dragon slayers.
But the profession is dying out as most of the evil dragons have been slain, and those that try are beat back by their own kind.
In a small kingdom the evil King Richard wants to get rid of the dragon that has taken residence in the mountain nearby.
So he hunts around to find that all the dragon slayers have died or retired long since.
All but one. Sir Steven of Harring's Town. He is a disgraced prince whose mother was eaten by a dragon shortly after his birth and has vowed to find and kill the creature.
The King almost turns him away when he arrives. He is thin, almost too thin to hold up his armor, his horse is on its last legs. His sword is chipped with many battles and held together with leather and tattered silk.
It's clear this man has not known a decent meal in a really long time.
But the dragon must be dealt with.
So the king feeds Sir Steve up for a couple of days so that he at least has the strength to draw his sword and sends off, pointing in the direction of the beast's mountain.
The dragon, Edgewraith, is black dragon with red eyes, claws, and underscales.
He is quite fearsome to behold.
He watches as this piteous creature stumbles off his aging horse and struggles up to the cave entrance.
"How desperate King Richard must be," Edgewraith hisses, smoke and spark spilling from his mouth. “To send me you."
Sir Steven pulls off his helmet and throws it to the ground. "I am the last dragon slayer, monster. All I ask is a shift death and that you mount my head on a spike in front of your cave announcing my demise."
Edgewraith is startled but before he could even form a response, the knight faints.
Two weeks later Sir Steve wakes to find the most beautiful man standing over him with a cup of broth. He has long dark curls and reddish brown eyes. Sir Steven falls in love almost immediately.
Eddie, as the man introduces himself, tells him that no one will come looking for him, as the dragon has spelled a skull to look like his visage and done as he asked.
Sir Steve is dead as far as the world knows.
Steve cries in relief.
The two slowly get to know each other and fall in love.
But before they can make love for the first time, Eddie reveals himself to be the dragon, Edgewraith.
Steve replies that he figured it out a long time ago and didn't mind. He took care of him when no one else would. Of course he fell in love with him.
Eddie knows that they can't couple, because of how hot he runs but one day a stray ember hits Steve in the leg but he doesn't call out in pain.
He picks it up and tosses it neatly into the fire. Once while making dinner for them both, Steve slips with the knife, but he doesn't bleed.
So Eddie starts pressing Steve a bit more about the dragon that supposedly ate his mother. All the villagers had described it as breathtaking. Bright bronze scales on top and warm brown eyes, claws, and underscale.
Eddie knows who this is and sends out the call.
Mirrorsong arrives and when she sees Steve instantly transforms.
"Mother?" Steve cries because the castle had paintings of his mother everywhere and he even kept a miniature he had painted himself with him at all times.
She runs to him and tells him the truth.
She fell in love with his father and married him. But when she gave birth to Steven, her insides burned the midwife's arms, nearly killing her. When the king learned this he banished his wife and raised her son as a dragon slayer.
Steve learns that while he can't change shape like Eddie and Mira, he cannot be hurt and he will live a long life. Maybe not as long as Eddie, but they have centuries instead of decades now.
The old king dies and the new king is kinder. All the kids like to go up to the mountain to play with the two strangers who protect their town.
And everyone lives happily ever after.

first of all i just wanted to say that i’m actually in love with your writing and i can’t wait to read more from you!! anyway i was thinking of some good ol’ peter hayes x fem!reader where they were both in candor together and hated each others GUTS, but then when they transferred to dauntless, peter starts developing feelings for reader so he follows her around like some puppy but she’s still on the peter-hate-train. maybe also like he starts talking to some other female dauntless initiate and stops giving reader as much attention and she finally realizes that she likes him
(this is such a long request i’m so sorry)
thank you so much!!

Starting out life on your own terms. A fresh page, a blank slate. This is why you decided to switch factions in your Choosing Ceremony, why you agreed to never see your family again except by something as meager as coincidence. Friends, neighbors, blood relations, all left behind with one swipe of a knife against your palm. It’s worth it, though. Running through the streets of your city like your world is on fire, you’re free for the first time in your memory. It’s just you in this new, grand place they call Dauntless.
Well, you and Peter Hayes.
Of all the people to come here with you, of course your fellow transfer from Candor would be Peter. Bold, callous Peter. Peter, who’s had it out for you since you were kids. No child should know that much bitter hatred, but the two of you have been arch rivals since you were small. You’d be lying if you said that leaving him behind didn’t factor into your decision to transfer from Candor to Dauntless even a little bit, but yet here he is anyway. Turns out you couldn’t run that far from him after all.
To you, it makes perfect sense that if Peter Hayes had to go anywhere, he would go to Dauntless. All throughout his time at Candor, for as long as you can remember Peter, he had been crafting his words to inflict as much misery as possible. In the eyes of the faction leaders, anything he said was fair game so long as he was telling the truth, and Peter did just that. He told his truth, which was precisely like reality except warped to cause as much hurt as he dared.
Peter’s words were honed to a knife’s sharpness, easier for drawing blood than the syringes of your faction’s truth serum. Of course he would go here, where bullets are no longer how he shapes his syllables to spike into your throat but a real thing. Why bother with figurative pain if you can produce the genuine article?
The two of you had ended up here for precisely opposite reasons. Peter wanted to hurt, you wanted to fight back. Candor is full of self-righteous bullies who believe they’re doing the right thing by being uncommonly cruel to anyone they pass. In Dauntless, everyone is finally on a level playing field. If someone insults you, you fight them, and no amount of callous words can save you then. Talk is nothing if you can’t back it up with prowess. For someone who had to swallow plenty of poison back in Candor, Dauntless is like a holiday.
However, the one thing that makes your paradise fall short is the fact that Peter decided to come here with you. He had made his decision independently of you, of course, but you’re still infuriated about the whole affair. This was supposed to be your fresh start, your one chance to escape your past and become something no one expected of you. That’s the whole point of the Choosing Ceremony, isn’t it? To kill off the old you and transform into the best version of yourself?
That had been your plan, at least, and then Peter had made his choice. You wouldn’t go anywhere but Dauntless even if your entire faction transferred over here, but it did complicate things. You had hoped that you and Peter would always end up on opposite sides of the room, then opposite ends of the faction, and never come in contact again, but as per usual, it looks like Peter isn’t much inclined to follow your whims.
From the first day alone, you knew he was going to be trouble. You were one of the first to jump, fresh off the exhilaration of the free fall plunge from the top of the roof, and reeling in the lingering aftereffects of your largest adrenaline rush to date while waiting for the jumpers to take their turns off the edge. The room was crowded, more so with each new jumper to make their move, yet somehow in all that chaos, Peter managed to find you. It didn’t bode well for the remainder of initiation, to say the least.
You had been hoping that the two of you could exchange silent, wary eye contact and then move on, your past shattered and gone for good, but instead Peter wove his way through the throngs of people and came to a stop by your side.
“Look who we have here,” he says, drawing the words out, “Y/N L/N. I never thought you’d have the guts to come here.”
“And I always thought you’d be too much of a coward to leave Candor,” you reply. “Looks like we were both wrong.”
Peter’s eyes widen and he chuckles, evidently not expecting your retort. “Careful, L/N. Didn’t know you had such a sharp tongue.”
“You’ve known me for years,” you say, eyeing him coldly. “If you didn’t know that, you’re about to be very surprised indeed. I hope you didn’t set your hopes on making first place in initiation, Hayes, or you’re going to be sorely disappointed.”
Up ahead, one of the initiation leaders is calling for the trainees to fall in after him. You take this opportunity to breeze past Peter, who’s standing there and staring openly, mouth agape. You’ve put up with his bullshit for many years now, always taking it silently in fear of jeopardizing your position in your faction, but no longer. You’re on even footing again for the first time in a very long time, and you have absolutely no intention of ever caving to Peter Hayes again.
For Peter, it seems, your decision is a very rude awakening. You immediately fling yourself into the intricacies of fighting and running and shooting, which causes you to rise quickly through the ranks of initiates, much to Peter’s chagrin. Although he’ll tell anyone in earshot that he’s only letting you do so well because he thinks it’s funny to watch you struggle, you can see the panic in Peter’s eyes when you crush one fight after another. You meant what you said, after all. It’s first place or nothing, and you don’t intend on settling for anything where Peter’s concerned.
Your rivalry becomes just as well known among your new friends in Dauntless as it was back in Candor. Hardly a day goes by without you and Peter getting in each other’s way, whether it be slamming each other into the ground during a fighting match in the ring or running yourselves ragged in an attempt to be faster, stronger, better. It’s like you can’t get away from him.
Everywhere you go, Peter is there too. Staying late after initiation to get some more practice with throwing knives, he just so happens to choose the target right beside you. Walking over to the training gym in the middle of the night because you can’t sleep and might as well use the empty hours to improve, Peter seems to have the same bright idea to practice with the punching bags even despite the midnight hour. You don’t like the fact that Peter seems to have such a good knack for telling when you’re awake or asleep, you have half a mind that he might get frustrated of the close competition and take you out while you were sleeping, but he’s never gone that far.
Your friends seem to have a different view of the whole affair. Every time you complain to them about Peter never letting you have a moment’s peace, Tris and Christina, your closest friends in initiation, just exchange knowing looks and begin to tease you. They seem convinced that Peter doesn’t hate you but actually harbors a crush, which is beyond you. There’s no earthly way that Peter likes you. The two of you have despised each other since before you could talk. The whole idea is absurd.
Still, if you were nothing more than an unknowing bystander, you supposed you could see how the situation might be misconstrued. A lifetime of truth-telling in you has to admit that maybe it is a little suspicious that you and Peter can’t seem to go an hour or two without running into each other, that Peter is both your greatest threat and the object of your every waking thought. It’s just because you want to beat him so badly, of course. Of course. If it weren’t, though. If you were thinking of him not because of hatred but for something more–
You wouldn’t. You would never be so foolish. This is how Peter wins, by twisting his way inside your mind until you’re second-guessing every single thing he does, and you’d die before you let him win. If he’s willing to play the game, though, you’ll do anything to beat him at his own technique, so you up the ante and repeat it right back to him.
Sarcastic comments slip from your tongue whenever you see him. When Four takes the initiates out on guided runs, you make sure you’re jogging right by Peter the whole time, your pace steadily increasing until both of you end each race at a sprint. The rest of the trainees have learned to leave two targets side by side for you two whenever it’s time for sharpshooting practice, and heaven help the hapless initiate who asks one of you to spar as if the other wasn’t standing right there, guarding their territory.
It doesn’t mean anything, though. You still hate Peter to the ends of the earth, and everyone around you had better know it, too. You despise him as much as it’s physically possible for a human being to hate anyone, but then he starts spending a lot of time with someone else, and suddenly the hatred is far harder to come by than it ever was, and you’re not sure what to do with yourself at all.
He’s spending time with another girl. Which isn’t bad, of course. He’s got friends. You do too. But. One time at dinner, you heard Tris saying that he’s looking at the girl the same way he used to look at you, and she wasn’t talking about hate, and you cannot tell whether you were supposed to deny that he’d ever done anything but hate you or be furious at this new girl for stealing his attention away from you, so you didn’t answer at all. You didn’t sleep a wink that night, and gave up a few hours in to try and train some more. He didn’t follow. He always follows. Not this time, though, and when you came back, he was quietly whispering with the other girl. Hatching sinister plans, no doubt, or planning to stab someone in the back. He didn’t even look at you when he came in. It was like he didn’t even care.
You feel sick to your stomach. You intentionally ask other trainees to spar in the ring– look, Peter isn’t the only one capable of moving on– but it’s like he doesn’t even notice. You want to slam your hands against his chest and shout in his face, do anything to make him look at you, but instead you stay sullen and quiet and pretend like nothing has changed even though everything, everything, has.
It hits you, about two weeks later, what the problem is. Like a lightning strike in the dark of night, all of a sudden you know, a knowledge that had been blank and absent before but totally unavoidable now. You like Peter. Hell, you might even love him, if you gave him that chance in your heart. Peter might have liked you, but you brushed him off for so long that he moved on.
It hurts like a jagged hole in your heart. Someone has reached inside and broken your ribs to claw this feeling out from where you’ve so cleverly hidden it, and there’s no disguising the horror of the wound now. You couldn’t escape it if you tried.
You found out this truth about yourself in the middle of a Dauntless party, and it kills your mood completely. You can’t stand the loud music or flashing lights anymore, so you put down your half-empty cup on one of the debris-strewn surfaces and make your way out. No one notices you leave. You’re a ghost on the outskirts of a celebration of life, and there is nothing here for you anymore.
You wander until you end up on the bridge overlooking the pit near the center of the Dauntless complex. You stand as close to the edge as you can, hands gripping the flimsy railing until you’re not sure your fingers could peel away from the rusting metal if you tried. If you’d felt any buzz from the party at all, you’ve sobered up by now. You have no idea how long you’ve been standing here, skin chilled by the drafts of the pit, and then a voice sounds from behind you, and you’re abruptly dragged back to reality once more.
“I thought you’d be back in there with the rest,” Peter says, coming to a stop beside you.
You don’t dare to look at him, opting instead to keep your eyes firmly trained on the drop over the edge of the pit. “I could say the same thing about you.”
Peter sounded genuinely curious when he asked, but your tone is harsher, colder. You still haven’t forgiven him for moving on just when you realized that you liked him, and it’s leaching into your voice. Peter chuckles even still. “No, not me. The best part just left.”
You risk a glance his way, and to your surprise, he’s looking at you. “Are you being honest with me, Peter?” You ask.
His face twists into chagrin. “Looks like we can’t beat the Candor out of ourselves after all, even despite all the training sessions we’ve pulled. I’ve tried, though.”
“You’ve done a good job,” you muse. “It’s me who needs to be fixed the most.”
Peter’s brow furrows. “What are you talking about?”
You shake your head. Maybe you weren’t as sober as you thought. “Never mind. It doesn’t matter.”
“Says who?” Peter asks plainly. “I’m here, aren’t I?”
You regard him suspiciously. “You haven’t always.”
Peter has the grace to look embarrassed. “I’ve done things I regret.”
“I don’t believe you,” you say, and laugh to hide your heartbreak. “I know you, Peter Hayes. I know what you do. I’m not falling for it. Not again.”
“It worked before?” Peter asks, genuinely surprised. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
This time you do laugh for real. “Why would I? And give you another weakness to exploit?”
Peter flinches as if you’ve slapped him. “I deserve that, probably, but I’ve been trying to be better.”
“Why?” You ask. “You’ve never cared what I thought, and you certainly don’t care about being better. Nothing about you makes sense, Peter. You’ve got a girl back there in the party who’s probably looking for you now, but instead you’re trying to apologize to me. You’ve never cared about that before.”
“But I do now,” Peter says, voice unexpectedly strong. When he turns the force of his gaze back on you again, you feel totally rooted in place, unable to move even if you wanted to. And, when he starts to move closer to you, one hand coming to rest on top of your fingers, you’re not sure that you do. “I do care. I’ve been trying to tell you that for weeks.”
“I thought you were excellent at telling the truth,” you whisper.
“So did I,” Peter replies. Hesitates, then says, “Only other people’s truth, it turns out. You were always my best secret. I wanted to keep you the most.”
Your breath sticks to your lungs, refusing to grant you release. None of this makes sense. Peter would never– But he is now, standing in front of you, telling you as much as he can. Peter still wants you. It’s up to you if you want him, too.
After everything he’s done to you over the years, you owe him nothing at all. He’s hurt you more times than you could count. When you’re cold, bitterly cold, freezing down to the bone with no way of rescue save your own rough and ragged principles, you burn everything around you. Clothes, shoes, furniture. Even people. Peter burned you, and so severe was the flame of your mutual hatred that it made it impossible for anything to grow between the two of you but a jealous wrath.
Peter has left the cold of Candor and traded in his shivering bones for Dauntless’ natural warmth, and now he finally has the room to put out the fire again. He’s stamped out the inferno, or tried to, at least; but upon inspecting the last flattened spark, Peter can’t tell if he went too far. It is immensely difficult for him to discern if he has left anything of you but char and ash.
What could have been a beautiful thing went up in smoke the moment he first raised a harsh word against you. Peter loves the truth, loves most of all to twist it, but in the end, the truth cannot help him here. Peter knows what he wants the truth to be, but the truth is no substitute for reality. It is up to you if you can ever forgive him, and no amount of pretty words on Peter’s end can change that.
It’s up to you, and for the first time since you came to Dauntless, you know precisely what you want. “I know what you mean,” you tell him carefully.
Peter’s face cracks in a tentative smile. “You know? So you–”
“I do,” you interrupt. “I like you, Peter.”
You have seen Peter furious, filled with righteous vengeance. You’ve seen him bloody and bruised on the other end of a sparring ring. You thought that the brightest emotion you’d ever see on him was the pure flame of hatred, but it turns out there’s one thing better than wrath, and that’s sheer, incandescent joy. He wears it now like the finest of luxuries, and you decide that you’d like to see it many times again. As it turns out, you’ll have plenty of chances.

All these thoughts also prompted me to think abt what John and Mary's fights were often about, especially the fight where John leaves and Dean then comforts Mary. And I think a big part of it was Mary keeping secrets and sneaking around with regard to hunting.
We know she was still hunting in 1980, when she saves Asa Fox. Dean would've been a year old and the hunt is not local, it's up in Canada. Mary says she's been tracking this werewolf for a long time and that they have history. I do think when she says "a long time" she means years and that she hasn't actively been tracking it but it's been something on the back-burner that she's kept an eye on all these years. But that still means she left for a number of days at the very least, and I wonder what she told John. What excuse did she come up with to justify suddenly taking off when they have a baby at home. And no, I don't think she needed to be there as "the mom" to take care of Dean or that she can't spend time away from the home or that fathers are incapable of taking care of their children or anything like that. But I think John would certainly wonder what's taking her away from them so suddenly. What could possibly be so important. And with a hunt like this, I don't think she could've exactly given him a set time-frame for her return.
Now, imagine that happening multiple times. Imagine that happening again when Sam is just a few months old. She says she has to go visit her uncle who's poorly (father of the Campbell cousins. The uncle that paid for her headstone when she died). And then she's gone for longer than she anticipated. And John is just suspicious. And when she comes back they argue about it. "I know you're lying! Just tell me the truth, Mary! What, are you seeing someone else?" And Mary holding firm to her lies because her family cannot know about the supernatural and hunting. Because she doesn't want her kids growing up like she did. Because John is her suburban fairytale. He can't know. And then John snaps. He's pissed. He thinks she's cheating while he's working to provide for the family AND watching the kids in her absence. So he flings a "Is Sam even mine?" at her in his rage and she slaps him and tells him "Don't you dare" and then John storms out in a huff but then calls later to talk about it more and Mary shuts him down. "No, John. … We’re not having this conversation again... Think about what? … You’ve two boys at home. …"
I can imagine a version of this phone call going something like this:
John calls. Maybe apologizes for what he said, but mostly just wants her to be honest with him.
John: Please, Mary, can we just talk about this.
Mary: No, John.
John: I just want you to tell me the truth! What are you hiding? What's going on that you can't tell me?
Mary: We're not having this conversation again.
John: Oh okay, 'we're not having this conversation again.' Well then can you blame me for where my mind is going? What would you think, huh?
Mary: Think about what?
John: You know how it looks, Mary. And I just, I can't keep doing this--
Mary: You have two boys at home. (and ohh the delicious irony of that in the context of her being the one leaving to continue hunting in secret)
John, probably, since the convo seems to continue: Oh that is rich coming from you right now, Mary.
Anyways, this is only one of many many scenarios I can imagine of their fights. And it's perhaps a little too sympathetic to John, but! I enjoy thinking of John complexly, especially considering how Young John is presented in SPN, and also John in the opening scene of the Pilot seems like the easy-going family man, who definitely had underlying issues prior to Mary's death (thank you SPNWIN for confirming that) but clearly those issues got worse after Mary's death, and for the most part he wasn't yet the guy we see him become after he is transformed by grief and anger. Also s12 Mary's rose-tinted recollections of John being such a good father, which starkly contrast to Dean's later memories of John, I think it's not a huge leap to say John pre-Mary's death was a good father, and I think seeing Mary leave them (likely repeatedly) under secretive circumstances for days at a time would have bothered John back then and been a continuous point of contention in their marriage.
And again, this is all simply one angle of interpretation, theorizing, and headcanoning and by no means the only possible scenario.

Neither one was sure when it started. When the divide between them grew so big that it was beyond repair. They had both put up barriers around themselves that were too hard for one another to break down. They both slowly pushed each other away and into the arms of others. No one had seen it coming, but at the same time, they did.
Phoenix had caught Jake talking to some barracks bunny at the Hard Deck and leaving with her. Bob had caught Y/N sitting in the park talking to another man. They had seen the signs, but they didn’t want to ask, too scared to find out the truth. The whole dagger squad had seen the shift in Hangman’s behavior. His flying became more reckless, his attitude was worse than normal. Rooster had asked Hangman if he was okay, and Jake had just brushed him off.
“Seriously Bagman, what the fuck is your problem?!” Phoenix asked him, as she took her helmet off of her head, “You’re flying like you’re on a damn suicide mission. What is going on!? Is something going on at home? Is it the kids? Y/N?”
Phoenix saw his whole body change at the mention of his wife. Jake stopped in his tracks and turned around to face her, his jaw clenched and his green eyes cold. That’s when it seemed to hit the whole dagger squad. The perfect couple that they had all fallen in love with, was not so perfect anymore. Phoenix didn’t say anymore, and neither did Jake, who just walked off into the hangar heading for the locker room. Rooster had hung around that night, seeing if Jake was going to go home, instead, he went to a barracks room across base.
“I think he’s cheating,” Rooster said over drinks one night, “He didn’t go home the other night. And then when I drove by Y/N’s house, all the lights were off.”
Rooster had tried reaching out to her for weeks, wanting to see the kids he considered his niece and nephews. But Y/N told him that now was just not a good time. And it was true. The issues between Jake and Y/N had spilled over into the attitudes of their kids. Alex, Ella, and Eli had all been acting out and causing issues. Y/N even had to go pick up Eli from daycare for hitting other kids. The arguments that lasted for hours kept the kids up, no matter how many times Y/N tried to get Jake to lower his voice.
Jake hadn’t seen her or the kids in two weeks, since the night she asked him to leave. He hadn’t been sleeping, he had been pushing himself to the end of his rope and he was ready to break. The only people who knew the truth of what was going on were Admiral Simpson and Maverick. Admiral Simpson had given Jake advice and resources to help him through everything, while Maverick was pretty much a shoulder to cry on. Neither one liked seeing one of their best pilots going through this, but it was inevitable in their line of work.
Jake’s knee bounced up and down rapidly as he waited in the waiting room of the lawyer’s office. He knew that she was running behind. It was just her and the kids, and it always took her some time to get them all roundup and in the car. Jake was nervous about how this would go down, but he knew he had to keep things civil with her. His head lifted as the door opened, and Ella ran right to him.
“Ella Bella,” Jake sighed, and hugged his daughter, standing up from his seat, “Hey,” He said to his wife.
“Hi,” Y/N said, holding Eli in her arms, “Say hi to daddy, boys.”
Alex apprehensively walked over to his dad and hugged him, and Y/N handed Eli to her husband. Eli was still too young to really understand everything, but Alex knew. Alex was a smart boy, he had just turned seven and was already way ahead of his peers, something he clearly got from his mother. Alex had noticed there was a problem with his mom and dad, and he had also come to the conclusion that his father had hurt his mother. He was always a momma's boy, and it made Jake’s heart both swell and break at the thought that he would always protect his mother.
“So I can have them for the weekend?” Jake asked again, even though he knew the answer.
“Yes,” Y/N said softly, looking down at her shoes, “This uh. . this is for you.” She pulled out a manila envelope that was in Eli’s diaper bag, “I told my lawyer I wanted to give it to you. It didn’t feel right just having some stranger deliver-”
“Divorce papers,” Jake said, not taking his eyes off of his youngest, “You didn’t want a stranger coming to tell me that my family is falling apart.”
“You act like this is my fault,” Y/N said, rolling her eyes.
“You’re not innocent in this either.”
Y/N sighed, and pinched the bridge of her nose, “Please, can we not do this.” She finally looked up at him, her eyes were wet with tears, and Jake felt guilty for everything. She took a deep breath and blinked back tears, standing up a bit straighter, “Alright loves, I’m gonna go now.”
Ella let go of Jake to run back over to her mother and hugged her tightly. Y/N kissed her cheek and told her to behave and to not be too mean to her brothers. Alex hugged Y/N extra tight and sent a glare to his father which didn’t go unnoticed. The hardest goodbye was for Eli. The little boy had never spent a moment away from his mother, and here he was, going to spend the next three days in the care of his father. Eli cried, and wouldn’t let go of Y/N, which made Jake feel even worse about this whole thing.
“You’ll be okay, baby, I love you so much,” Y/N said and kissed his tear-stained cheek.
“Momma!” Eli cried, and Jake tried to soothe him. He could see that his other two children were growing ansty at Eli’s pained cries and so was Y/N. She blew him and her other kids a kiss before leaving the room quickly. As soon as she was out of sight of her children, she let her tears fall as she walked to her car.
“It’ll be okay, lil man, we’ll all be okay,” Jake said, trying to assure himself more than the children.
— — —
The room was tense as they sat on opposite ends of the small couch. The space between them was large both physically and emotionally. Their therapist, Doctor Merritt was looking over her notes as Y/N spun the ring on her finger. She took her engagement ring off weeks ago, but couldn’t bring herself to take off her wedding band. Jake had taken his off, it was one of the first things she had noticed about him when he walked in today. The gray ring that had sat on his ring finger for almost a decade, was missing, leaving behind the almost permanent tan line.
“So, what brings you two here, today?” Dr. Merritt said. Jake and Y/N glanced at each other quickly and then looked away.
“I want to try and salvage our marriage,” Jake said and Y/N sucked in a breath.
“Y/N, what about you?”
She swallowed and looked at the therapist, “I guess I want the same.”
“You guess?” Jake said.
“Jake, not the time,” Dr. Merritt scolded, “Y/N, what do you want? What do you hope to get out of this?”
“I want things to not be awkward between us. I want to be able to get along for the sake of our children,” She could feel Jake staring at her as she spoke, “And I uh. . . I want to be able to move on, in a healthy manner. If it’s saving our marriage, then it's that. If it's. . . taking the steps towards divorce then so be it.”
Jake felt like his heart had been smashed to pieces as he listened to her. He had to tear his eyes away from her before he broke out in tears. Doctor Merritt wrote down all that they said, making her own notes.
“Alright, let’s start from when the fighting first started. Y/N you said it was back during Jake’s last deployment. Can you explain what happened?”
— — —
“What do you mean you have to leave?” Y/N asked as she walked down the hallway behind her husband. Jake didn’t say anything as he went right for the kids’ playroom, hearing the shouts of their kids coming to greet him. Ella and Alex hugged him tightly and Jake kissed the tops of their heads.
“I am being sent on a mission. All of us,” Jake said, and placed Ella on his hip.
“F-For how long?”
“I’m not sure,” Jake said and turned to walk out of the room. Jake went to the kitchen so he could start on dinner. Placing Ella on the counter. The past week Jake had been acting weird, his behavior towards Y/N had been short and a bit snippy. Y/N had tried to press and ask him what was going on but every time Jake just shrugged it off and said she wouldn’t get it.
“Well, we are having a baby in three months,” She said, rubbing her belly.
“I know.”
Y/N was taken aback by his words. Jake was usually ecstatic about Y/N being pregnant, but he had been cold this whole time. She thought that maybe there was a part of him that didn’t want another baby. That Y/N had read this whole situation backward. Maybe, he wasn’t ready to have a baby so soon after losing their baby.
Y/N had been right around twelve weeks along when the doctor told her that she no longer heard a heartbeat or saw a fetus. It had been the hardest thing to digest as she lay there on the exam table, trying to comprehend how she missed this. How did she miss the fact that she had lost a baby? How does she move on from this? Jake had been the strong one, keeping the tears out of Y/N’s eyes and explaining what happened to the kids.
It was only a year later that Y/N had gotten pregnant again, this time with a little boy. The whole year after the miscarriage was harder than any of them could imagine. Y/N could hear Jake crying at night and vice versa. They had been cold to one another, focusing solely on their two kids. They had hardly even touched each other, but one night everything seemed to shift. They realized that they needed each other, needed to touch each other, to hold one another. Neither one thought of the possibility of having another child, and foregone the condom. It wasn’t until four weeks later, that Y/N was staring at a positive pregnancy test.
“Okay, so you do know that I’m pregnant,” Y/N sassed and Jake stopped in his tracks, turning to face her.
“It’s kind of hard to forget,” His eyes pointed down toward the protruding baby bump, and Y/N felt self-conscious. This pregnancy had been a bit rough on her from the extreme morning sickness to the weight she had added on. She hadn’t added on much weight, but it was enough to make her feel self-conscious and want to hide away. Usually, Jake was always telling his wife how beautiful she looked, even when she was seven months pregnant. But now, it seemed like Jake didn’t have the time of day.
“It’s not gonna be that long.”
“O-okay,” Y/N stuttered, “Well, are you going to put in for extended leave?”
“I’m not sure yet.”
— — —
“You acted like a whole new person when you returned from that mission. You seemed to actually be excited about having another baby,” Y/N said, looking down at her hands.
Jake sighed. He could remember how he acted after finding out about Y/N’s last pregnancy. It wasn’t that he wasn’t excited to have another baby, it was that he was still reeling from the loss of a baby. He didn’t know how to react, he wasn’t sure if he was allowed to be happy and celebrate having another baby. But he had talked to Penny, who had also had a miscarriage before having her daughter Amelia.
“I wasn’t sure if I could be happy about Eli when I didn’t even get a chance to get to know the baby before that,” Jake’s voice cracked as he covered it by clearing his throat, “It didn’t feel right. . . it still kind of doesn’t feel right.”
“So instead of telling me that. . . you decided to go sleep with another woman,” Y/N shook her head.
“Y/N," Doctor Merritt scolded her, "Did you guys talk about it? Was there talks about having another baby?"
"Of course there were," Y/N said, "We had talked about it and were trying again before it happened. . . it just wasn't going. . . as easy as it had been."
— — —
Y/N angrily tossed yet another negative pregnancy test in the trash can. Jake sighed as he ran his hands down his face, sitting on the edge of the bathtub. He felt her pain and was somewhat upset by the result. This had been month three of actively trying to conceive and Y/N was about to throw in the towel. She watched her cycle, seeing her peak times of ovulation, which she found wasn’t a very long time and happened at random times during the day.
“Maybe it’s my diet,” Y/N said, leaning her hands against the counter, “I read that sometimes that can affect fertility.”
“Or maybe,” Jake said standing up from his spot, “It’s just not our time yet,” He placed his hands on either side of Y/N and kissed her cheek.
“We have been doing it all the time,” Y/N shook her head, and pushed away from Jake, “Something is wrong. When I got off birth control to have Ella, I got pregnant within my first cycle. It’s been months! And nothing.”
“We can go see Doctor Miller if you want,” Jake said, mentioning her OB. Y/N looked down at her hands. She wasn’t quite ready to face the music and go see a doctor for this. She knew that secondary infertility was a thing and had read about it in some of her parenting books. But getting pregnant with Ella had been so easy and not a problem at all.
Y/N sighed, “No. We just gotta keep trying. Do the old-school methods. Keep my hips elevated, change up my diet a bit, keep tracking my fertility windows.”
Jake nodded and walked to his wife. He gently held her face in his hands and made her look up at him, “It’ll happen. I know it will. We will have another baby.” Y/N smiled and kissed him.
— — —
“Oh fuck, Jake, right there,” Y/N moaned out, her nails digging into Jake’s back. Her hips hurt and every thrust felt like sandpaper but they were in the middle of her peak fertility window and they needed to keep going.
Jake grunted and buried his face into her neck. He was also utterly exhausted from doing nothing but having sex. It didn’t even feel like lovemaking anymore. It was starting to feel like a complete chore to him. He’d come home from work, or even leave work early whenever Y/N said it was her fertility time, and fuck her. It was so cut and dry, with little to no foreplay being done and getting right to business.
“Fuck,” Jake said and pushed himself up with his hand. He had been trying for a little over thirty minutes but it was just not happening. He couldn’t remember the last time he had this problem, but he just couldn’t get himself to cum, “I’m sorry, baby,” Jake shook his head and Y/N looked at him confused.
“What are you doing?” She asked as he started to pull out.
“I can’t cum,” Jake said dejectedly and pulled out of her. She winced and Jake could see the faintest sight of blood leak out of her, “I’m sorry but my balls are empty.”
Y/N didn’t say anything but nodded and turned on her side away from him. Jake felt a pang in his chest as she clutched her pillow and pulled the blankets up to cover her bare body. Usually after sex, there were soft kisses, cuddles, and checking in on one another. Y/N was the best at pillow talk, and would always run her hands through Jake’s hair, smoothing down the locks she had messed up. But now there was nothing.
“Hey,” Jake said, coming up behind her to spoon her. Y/N gently shook her shoulder, brushing him off, “Did I do something wrong?”
“I don’t know,” Y/N mumbled, “We were in peak ovulation. My egg was about to drop. Probably missed the chance now.”
Jake clenched his jaw and flopped down on his back. She was mad at him and he could tell. Whenever Y/N was mad, she didn’t yell and let her face turn red. No, she got quiet and would shy away from you. Jake took a couple of deep breaths, trying to calm himself down, but it wasn’t working. He pushed himself up from bed abruptly, which caused Y/N to look over her shoulder.
“You’re fucking mad because I couldn’t fucking cum?!” Jake yelled, standing up from bed. Y/N sat up, clutching the blankets to her front, “All I’ve been fucking doing is busting a goddamn nut!”
“Well, clearly you haven’t!” Y/N yelled back, and then immediately regretted it. Jake could see it in her eyes. He chuckled darkly and shook his head. He grabbed his boxers, slipping them up his legs, and then walked over to his dresser, getting a pair of sweatpants.
“Where are you doing?” Y/N asked, rubbing her temple with her fingers.
“Out,” Jake simply answered, walking into the closet and grabbing a sweatshirt.
“Where?”
“I don’t know!” Jake yelled, and Y/N cowered. He felt bad but he was too blinded by anger to care at the moment, “I need to get away from you. Jesus, all we have been doing is fucking. I come home from work, and we have sex. I wake up in the morning, and we have sex. Every night before bed, we have sex. I am exhausted! My body hurts! And I know yours does too,” Y/N could feel the ache between her legs. He was right, it had started to hurt even sitting for her.
“This isn’t the healthy way to have a baby,” Jake said softly, and Y/N felt the tears start to roll down her cheeks. He sat on the bed in front of her and leaned in to brush away a tear with his thumb.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” Y/N said barely above a whisper, but Jake heard it. He frowned and grabbed her hand.
“I think it’s time we see someone about this,” Jake said and Y/N shook her head. Seeing a doctor meant confirming every fear that ran through her head. Y/N didn’t like doctors anyway. They always spoke way above her head and whenever she’d ask them questions, they would talk down to her like she was stupid. She wasn’t stupid, she was incredibly smart, but most got that and her shyness confused.
“Baby, we have-”
“No, we don’t!” Y/N pushed Jake’s hands away from her, and crossed her arms over her chest, “Everything is fine. We just need to keep trying,” She pushed herself up to her knees, letting the blanket drop and her chest became exposed, “I read about this one-”
Jake gently pushed her away from him and stood up, “No, I can’t do this,” He said and grabbed his wallet and keys from the top of the dresser, “Let me know when I get my wife back.”
— — —
A sob left Y/N's mouth as she sat back on the couch. Jake leaned forward so his elbows were on his knees, running a hand down his face. Those months until they gave up on trying for Eli had been the toughest months of their marriage. They both wanted another baby, they both weren't ready to be done yet. But neither one was truly ready for it yet.
"I thought, I would be okay with it," Jake sighed, "I just. . . When she had Eli, I was happy. I was happy to have a healthy baby."
"But you weren't happy that I was pregnant," Y/N answered, "And instead of telling me that, you went and fucked someone-"
Jake scoffed and turned his head to face his wife, "What about your little crush on Rooster? Hm? You're not the only one here who found comfort in someone else."
Y/N stared at her husband, his green eyes were like a window straight to his broken heart. All she wanted to do was to hold him and tell him that she's sorry. But Jake turned his head and went back to looking forward.

Bad Boy
A few meta-type thoughts about Bad Boy, now the dust has started to settle.  There could hardly have been more hype in the run up to the release of Shingeki FLY, but Bad Boy certainly delivered.  It’s classic Isayama; for such a short chapter it really packs an emotional punch, blending real pathos and tragedy with shockingly graphic violence and body horror.  It doesn't really add anything to the over all plot, which is to be expected, but it does provide insight into Levi’s character and answers one question that fans have been speculating about for years.
The story of why Levi holds his tea cup in such a peculiar way isn’t new. Isayama mentioned this in a magazine interview (I think?) way back in 2014
Q: …why he has such way of holding cup? Isayama: About that, I was thinking of drawing this one day. When he was a kid, Levi was living in slums and poverty. He was yearning for a life in clean & neat environment (not rich life). When he finally obtained the tea and tea set those he has been desperately wanted, he was rejoicing that finally he can drink it. But when he started to grip on the handle and lift up the cup, the handle came off and his cup was shattered. He was so traumatised by this experience and that’s why he changed his way of holding cups to not using the handle.
However we now know that the cup belonged to his mother and the extraordinary lengths Levi went to recover it. What is new is that we finally have confirmation of when Levi’s Ackerpowers were awakened.  Fans have been arguing about this for years; some thought it was when he killed the man with the knife immediately before Kenny left, others suggested it was when Farlan and Isabel were killed. Now we finally have an answer.  It’s not exactly clear how much time has lapsed between Kenny taking Levi in, his powers awakening, and Kenny leaving, however the fact that Kuchel’s tea set hadn’t yet made its way to the surface suggests that not much time had passed at all.
Levi’s description of his powers awakening is fascinating;
“Strangely enough I didn’t doubt what was happening to me at that moment. The pain had vanished, my head was calm, as if it had been immersed in water. Clear instructions on what to do came to my mind. I simply followed them one by one.”
This is the most information we’ve ever had about the famous Ackerpowers and goes some way to explaining Levi and Mikasa’s preternatural calm and focus when they're fighting.   They really only succumb to panic and despair when their loved ones are threatened.  Think of Mikasa in Shiganshina and at Fort Salta, and Levi when Farlan and Isabel die and when he allows Zeke to escape after Erwin rode out to his death.
The panel illustrating Levi’s powers awakening is also interesting as it looks very like a Titan transformation. This suggests there is more than a grain of truth in what the Yeagers said about Ackermans being a by-product of Titan science, who were able to access the power of the Titans without becoming Titans themselves.
Tumblr media
It’s not difficult to draw a direct line between the abuse and persecution Levi suffered as a child, with his determination to use his power to protect those in need.  Initially he used his strength to protect the vulnerable people of the Underground, such as Isabel, however once he met Erwin he was able to exert his power to serve an even higher goal - saving humanity. Isayama discussed this in the Answers Guidebook way back in 2006 and I think his comments are worth repeating here.
Isayama With the heroes of American comics, conflicts dealing with the situation “with great power, comes great responsibility” have been depicted. In Levi’s case, if he had no power, he would probably have been an ordinary person with no responsibilities but, as a consequence of having power, that he became a person excessively burdened with responsibility. Kenny talked about “everyone… was a slave to something…”, when he put the question to Levi “what is yours!?”, Levi himself too perceived it. That he himself too was a slave in regard to his own strength. The sense of duty that “I must become a hero”. …the same thing can be said of Mikasa too but…, for the Ackerman family, in the service of their master, there are many people who are able to manifest their power to its maximum.
[Translation by @tsuki-no-ura]
I think it's also very in keeping with Levi's character that he remained devoted to saving humanity after the Rumbling; providing succour to the children in the refugee camp, and working to renew the environment destroyed by Eren's genocide, despite his injuries and regardless of whether he retained his Ackerpowers.
The title of the chapter, Bad Boy, is also interesting. No one actually calls Levi a “bad boy” in the chapter (though he is called worse) which suggests that this is how Levi sees himself.  It makes me wonder how much he internalised the thug’s insinuation that his mother would have been disappointed in him, and it also recalls Levi’s speech to Historia and the 104th, where he says he’s fine playing the role of the violent lunatic.  Poor baby.
Tumblr media
Another point the chapter clarifies is the origin of Levi’s belief that Kenny was his father.  To be honest, it’s hardly surprising that Levi assumed this considering Kenny clearly had some kind of relationship with his mother and took him in without question. Still, knowing that the seed of that belief was planted by a thug who was willing to torture and kill a child, or sell him into sexual slavery, really twists the knife.
Tumblr media
[Translation by krtk.]
I am a little sad that we didn’t see more of Kenny in the chapter, but his presence certainly looms large.
I had expected to see more of Kuchel but at the same time I’m almost glad we didn’t.  Her life was brutal beyond measure and we’ve already seen her tragic death. Several fans have suggested that the reason we only see Kuchel in partial profile is because Levi’s memories of her are so hazy, all he really recalls is her grace 😢
It’s remarkable that Kuchel was able to retain such poise and grace despite living in such desperate squalor.  @momtaku has made the point that Kuchel appears to have been born into at least modest comfort, judging from Grandpa Ackermans’ home, which would explain where her elegance and also her fancy china came from.  It’s heartbreaking that both she and Levi clung on to this small memento of a better life.
Tumblr media
Levi’s devotion to his mother, his desire to emulate her grace and cling on to her belongings is devastating, is very much in keeping with everything we know about his character.  Levi has boundless compassion, is deeply loyal, and never forgets those he loves, whether it’s Farlan and Isabel, Erwin, or his squad.  He’s also very sentimental; saving his mother’s tea set, and drinking tea evokes a direct connection to Kuchel and the only good thing he remembers from the squalor and cruelty of his childhood. This makes Erwin’s willingness to indulge his sentimentality and bend the rules to procure a steady supply of high quality tea for Levi all the more poignant.
There's been some debate about Gabi's reaction to Levi's story in the final panel...
Tumblr media
Some people have interpreted her expression as holding back tears, while others have suggested she's trying not to laugh. I'm definitely in the stifled laughter camp. It just seems so very typical of Gabi and her relationship with Levi...
Gabi: - winds Levi up - Levi: - trauma dumps - Gabi: - stifled laughter / more wind up - Falco: - actually upset - "Would you guys stop??" Onyankopon: - shade -
It's also very typical of Isayama to poke fun at his characters like this, and it stops the story from tipping over into bathos.
There is one burning question that Bad Boy doesn’t answer and it’s this - what tf was kid Levi doing in Mr Smith’s classroom??
Tumblr media
Despite hoping against hope, I never really expected Isayama to answer this, because he does love to troll his readers.  Is it too much to hope that sometime down the line he’ll reappear with another chapter called School Boy??

“This is the story of how I died. But don’t worry, this is a fun story, and the truth is, it isn’t even mine.”
You smile at the familiar sound of Tangled playing on the television. Lila has decided that it is her favorite movie since watching it with you for the first time several months ago. Since then, she’s started it alone, asked to watch it for family movie night, and pretended to be Rapunzel more times than you can count.
“Again?” you ask playfully. “Do you want popcorn?”
“Not until they get to the Duckling!” Lila answers, not looking away from the screen.
“The Snugly Ducking?” you clarify as you move to sit beside her. “Why then?”
“Because it’s a restaurant,” Lila says as if it’s obvious. “And I like the song.”
You hum and turn your attention to the movie. It’s a great movie, no doubt, and when Lila moves closer to you while Mother Gothel takes Rapunzel from the castle, you decide you’ll watch it as many times as Lila wants.
“Lila,” you whisper. “What do you want to be for Halloween?”
She frowns and says, “Matthew told me it was dumb.”
“Matthew was wrong. He clearly doesn’t know what you like. So…”
She gestures weakly to the screen, and you ask, “Rapunzel?”
She shrugs, and you pat her shoulder before you retrieve your phone and look for family costumes based on the movie. The third picture shows a man and woman dressed as Flynn and Rapunzel and a young girl smiling in a Pascal costume.
“Something like this?” you ask, passing her your phone.
“Yes!” Lila exclaims. “I can be Pascal?!”
“Sure!”
“And you’ll be Rapunzel?”
Your mouth opens, but no sound comes out. The goal had been to find Lila a costume, but if she wants a matching costume, you’ll gladly dress up with her. Deacon plans to spend every holiday of the rest of your life with you anyway, so this should be a good place to start.
“And we can surprise Dad,” Lila adds.
“Right. We’ll find the perfect costumes, make them, maybe, and surprise him after work that day!”
“Yay!” Lila screams.
“Hold on,” you say with Flynn. “Yep, I’m used to it. Guys, I want a castle.”
Lila laughs as she settles beside you again, and you save the picture to ensure the costumes you decide on are as perfect as possible.
“This is a very big day, Pascal,” you murmur softly.
Tumblr media
With a week and a half to Halloween, you know every word of Tangled, and the final touches are nearly complete on Lila’s costume. She’s managed to keep it a secret from Deacon, but you’re not sure she can make it to Halloween without slipping up.
“Lila, can you try this on for me?” you ask.
“Yep!”
She runs into the bedroom where you’ve been working and sticks her arms out. You smile and slide the green sleeves over her arms before checking the covered zipper in the back.
“Adorable,” you decide. “Does it feel okay?”
Lila nods quickly, looking down at her costume as she sways.
“Try yours on!” she says excitedly.
“I have to finish mine first,” you explain. “Maybe tomorrow.”
“Hello?” Deacon calls as he enters the front door. “Anyone home?”
“No!” you yell, quickly removing Lila’s costume to return it to the closet.
“Can we watch-“ Lila begins.
“Let me guess,” you interrupt. “Die Hard?”
“No! Tangled!”
“Oh, what’s that about?” you tease.
Lila hugs you, then runs to greet her dad. A moment later, he appears in the doorway, smiling at you.
“What are you doing in here?” he asks.
“I was looking for a pencil. They just can’t get Flynn’s nose right.”
Deacon chuckles and pulls you into a hug. He kisses the top of your head and then leads you back to the kitchen to help you finish dinner.
“Thank you,” Deacon says. “The kids love you; I love you, but you don’t have to do so much for us.”
“I want to. I love the kids, too.”
“Just the kids?”
You smile and tilt your chin up for a kiss. After Deacon pulls back, you nod and say, “I love you, too. Go sit with Lila and Samuel, I’ll finish here.”
“Matthew’s at the sleepover?” Deacon asks.
“He is. Everything was going well over there last I checked.”
Deacon drags his hand across your back as he exits the kitchen. When you walk into the living room a few minutes later to tell them dinner is ready, Lila points to Pascal. You know what’s coming but don’t have time to stop her before she speaks.
“That’s what I looked like!” she says.
“You’re dressing up as Pascal?” Deacon deduces.
She looks at you, guilty. When you smile and nod, she answers, “Yep!”
“Interesting costume choice.” Deacon looks at you with a smile. He adds, “I’m sure you’ll look just like him.”
“He’s a chameleon, so you might not be able to find me.”
“I’ll always find you, Lila.”
Tumblr media
Your phone chimes with an incoming text while you’re securing Lila’s Pascal mask onto the back of her costume. Once it’s attached, you read the message from Deacon and smile.
“Your dad got off early,” you tell her. “He’s on his way home to trick or treat with all of us.”
“Can you help me?” Matthew asks, walking into the room with his costume hanging around his waist. “I can’t get my arms in the sleeves.”
“Of course, get over here, Optimus Prime,” you answer.
“I’m Nemesis Prime,” Matthew corrects as you pull the plastic plates over his hands.
“For now. Where’s Bumblebee?”
“Here!” Samuel announces, posing in the doorway with his hands on his hips.
“Wow! You look great.” Matthew steps back once his costume is in place, and you say, “Your dad is on the way home.”
Matthew and Samuel walk with heavy robot steps toward the living room to wait for their dad and fill him in on their Autobot adventures. Lila waits in the room with you as you put things away. Just before you reach up to close the window, someone stops outside it.
“Rapunzel!” Deacon yells. “Let down your hair!”
You laugh as you walk to the window. The laughter fades into shock when you see Deacon. He’s on the path to the front door in a Flynn Rider costume. Just when I thought he couldn’t get more attractive, you think.
“Let down your hair,” he repeats, smiling.
You pull the long braid you made of yarn, a blonde wig, and fake flowers over your shoulder and drape it over the windowsill.
“Get in here, Fitzherbert,” you demand.
Deacon salutes you, then walks to the front door. Once the window is closed, you follow Lila through the hall to greet Deacon properly.
“You’re Flynn,” you murmur, smoothing Deacon’s costume across his chest. “It’s a good look for you.”
“You look beautiful,” he replies, holding your waist. “I love you.”
“I love you.”
Deacon kisses you quickly, but you’re interrupted by Samuel singing, “I want candy!”
“Rapunzel?” Deacon asks, offering his hand.
You take his hand, then offer your free hand to Lila. While Optimus Prime (already saved from his Nemesis Prime brainwashing, as you expected) and Bumblebee lead the way, you walk with the love of your life and the chameleon that brought you together.
“You can’t complain when she asks to watch this movie again,” you whisper to Deacon.
“I’m going to introduce her to The Goonies next,” he jokes.
Lila pulls you toward a house, and your hand slips out of Deacon’s as you reply, “Not until you do the truffle shuffle.”

The Hero of Paris
...so when Gabriel was in the bathroom on that train when he transformed and tried to akumatize someone...
...you think anyone could have just...I dunno, recorded it?
__________________________
Michael Donahue was the hero of Paris.
In truth, he was an American tourist. And about as American as one could get.
And AS a young American in a foreign country, he did what most Americans do: abuse his phone's camera function for anything and everything he thought was interesting and likely to get him likes on social media.
He recorded a man feeding pigeons before being run off by a police officer.
He recorded some curator at a museum telling a wild fanfic idea at the Louvre.
He recorded a bunch of people chasing after a blond haired kid and screaming at the sight of him. Which...okay, weird?
Well, he'd known Paris would be weird. But he didn't think it'd be THIS weird.
But then THAT day happened. And what he thought was perhaps the silliest…even the downright dumbest thing ended up being what made him go viral in the last way he ever expected.
Some would consider it uncouth. Most would have just politely ignored it.
But Micheal was a young American with a need to record everything.
And he was already in his seat in a train waiting for it to depart for his next travel destination...only to be delayed due to some reason that he, not being French-speaking, didn't understand.
Ultimately, that made this the perfect combination of bored and impulsive in JUST the right way to achieve a miracle.
So when he heard what sounded like shouting and insane laughter coming from the bathroom on the train, Michael—in true American fashion, decided to record it.
"Dude, some guy has taken over one of the restrooms and is yelling like crazy!"
…and for the sheer hell of it, he started livestreaming.
And his chat started to come alive.
What's going on?
"The train's held up. My French isn't that good. An 'akuma' or something?"
What's an akuma?
He looked over his shoulder.
"I dunno. But that guy in the restroom has been shouting about it a lot."
On the other side of the door, the faint sound of yelling could be heard. Most of it garbled that Michael couldn't quite make out except for a few words.
"—akuma—"
"—Ladeebuug!"
What's he shouting?
"Something about Ladybugs and noir? Is he shooting a movie or complaining of a lack of pest control? Lol."
Out of all his vids and livestreams, he hadn't expected the one about some random making a scene in a bathroom to be the one that got attention, but more people were joining the chat and he saw his numbers rise more than they ever had.
"Wow. Okay. Didn't expect to get this level of response."
He made sure to keep the camera on the bathroom door the noises were coming from rather than himself. It was what the people wanted to see apparently and it allowed better audio quality.
What was perhaps the most interesting was that he started getting comments in French.
In all caps.
With many exclamation points.
Is this real!?
HAWK MOTH!
IT'S HAWK MOTH!
WHERE IS HE?!
"Hawk Moth? What?"
Then a particularly insistent commenter named LadyWifi joined and started to spam the chat.
Où est-ce?
Où est-ce?!!
OÙ EST-CE!!!
"Wait hold on. What?"
où!
WHERE?!
WHERE IS IT
wherewherewerewhere?!!!!!!!!11!!1
He balked at the repeated demands. Given the chat seemed to be repeatedly questioning where in English, he could only presume that's what they were asking in French, too. But he had no idea why and no explanation was forthcoming! Any attempts anyone made to tell him what was going on quickly got lost in the flood of comments demanding a location.
Before he could comment further though, his thoughts were interrupted by a cry of outrage from the restroom, loud enough to ring his ears.
Silence.
Then…
"Nooroo, detransform moi."
There was a strange sound from inside. Muffled, but distinct enough. Like how sparkles should sound? Something from one of those magical girl shows his little sister watches.
A click signaled the door unlocking.
"I think he's about to come out!"
The chat was going wild. Everyone commenting. Making random names? Maybe trying to guess who the person on the other side of the door was?
Then some blond guy in glasses and a really unfashionable suit came out of the restroom.
…and his livestream promptly exploded.

Spent today checking out The Amazing Digital Circus and Murder Drones, and god, the kids today have it so good when it comes to this sort of content. When I was a teen, I was obsessed with Red vs. Blue and RWBY, which I think it's fair to say are the equivalents of the time, and the sheer gulf in terms of writing quality and production value is stunning. I hear there were some rumblings of unprofessional conduct from the production company, which would hardly be surprising considering this is yet another guys-working-from-their-basement success story, but much bigger companies with much shittier business practises consistently put out much worse content than this.
The Amazing Digital Circus is definitely the better show of the two, thanks to its slam-dunk premise and some great writing from Gooseworx. The producers have talked about aiming to fill a perceived gap in the market between kids' cartoons (The Boss Baby) and adult animation (Bojack Horseman), and I think they have successfully threaded the needle to create a very unique tone. There's a sense of these works existing totally outside the mainstream media machine; they're not getting BBFC rated, but you just know millions of kids are watching them. It's on YouTube and the fact that it looks like some Frozen Spider-Man kids' slop just means da parents won't question what their kids are watching.
But truth be told, there's nothing objectionable about the content of The Amazing Digital Circus whatsoever. It's unusually metatextual and loosely apes the aesthetics of much darker media, touching on slightly more existential themes than your typical kids' cartoon, but it still has a lot in common with those same cartoons. The zany characters are all fairly one-note, and the emotional arcs of the episodes are honestly quite straightforward. The second episode in particular has an absolutely textbook plot structure to it. It's a far more self-assured and traditional style of writing than you ever see in this kind of independent work—certainly far more so than Murder Drones, which is written by an insane person.
More than anything, I'm reminded of how I felt watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica: that it's a very solid work of fiction, but that the people who'd get the most out of the work are isolated teens struggling to make the transition into adulthood. Certainly if nothing else, the fandoms of these shows must be bringing a lot of kids together around the world. I adore this soundbite from Goose: "Above anything else, I just wanted it to feel kind of lonely." You see Pomni's worldview shatter, she suddenly finds herself in a body that feels completely wrong, and she has to construct a new kind of belonging for herself.
As for Murder Drones, that show's absolutely fucking nuts, yo. The writing is at once painfully basic and utterly incomprehensible. If someone just sat down and explained the plot straightforwardly, it would be fantastically boring. But man, the presentation, the sheer delight the animators seem to approach every scene with...! I'd say it's clearly trying to use "the characters are robots" as an excuse to expose da kids to some absolutely shocking levels of gore, much like the Transformers movies, but midway through the series it starts straightup swapping the oil and wires for blood and bones and you've got to respect that.
The writing itself is so excruciatingly irony-poisoned that it goes beyond cringe and somehow wraps back around again to being sincerely funny. The show kind of wants to have its cake and eat it in terms of constantly lampshading how flat and cliché the emotional plotting is, but also clearly aiming to genuinely tug at the heartstrings and whip fans into a frenzy. And it kind of succeeds, I think! The way it veers between bizarrely high-effort implementations of memes, seriously cool fight scenes and horror visuals, and big emotional moments is very disarming. If The Amazing Digital Circus is an attempt to faithfully rework the American-cartoon formula for a slightly older audience, Murder Drones aims to crib the aesthetics of high-school cartoons while actively rejecting every traditional narrative technique used in those stories. Which means it's kind of bad, which means it's also kind of great.
If it's not already, then within a couple of years it will be deeply cringe to have ever been into Murder Drones in particular or (to a slightly lesser extent) The Amazing Digital Circus, in much the same way that everyone seems embarrassed to admit they were ever a Homestuck fan. But like with Homestuck, I feel like these series are genuinely pushing at the frontiers of storytelling in a way that's commendable and might inspire new kinds of writing once the fans grow up.
ENA is also pretty good, for the record.
