Im thinking about. Looming. The feeling of something big staring down at you. The way their body blocks out the light from above you, whether it be the sun or a ceiling light. The temperature around you dips and you begin to shiver, not only from cold, but from fear, too. You’re boxed in. Maybe their gigantic hands snake around to block your only exit, or they don’t even have to move at all, their body stretching taller than you could ever feasibly run away from. They’re so massive that you can barely comprehend them. And they’re standing over you, staring down in surprise, in shock, in confusion, in delight. It’s like being observed by the sky itself, by a mountain taking up your whole vision. God forbid they start speaking, rumbling about how small you are, how they’ve caught a little thief, how they’re not going to hurt you, how there’s no escape, now. Hm

trope i'd like to see more? mmmmm being stuck with a giant while they're still in feral mode. the most pressing danger is over, but the larger doesn't recognize that. in fact, they're solely focused on you. being cradled to a chest with a clawed hand. held precariously between two fingers and inspected for injuries, pinned under the gaze of two massive, clouded eyes. trying to sneak away only to be met with a sharp, booming growl. all that stuff.

maybe some progress is made, and you're able to walk away long enough to retrieve some supplies, pretending like you don't hear a whine echoing behind you. coming back, and whatever new materials you have being sniffed curiously, cautiously. eventually, you settle down. neither of you are sleeping tonight. not the giant, clutching you to their chest or neck, ready to pounce at anything that so much as twitches towards you. certainly not you, flight-or-fight still roaring, both from the altercation and the presence of this behemoth. you can only pray the lucid, reasonable person you knew soon returns. but...

in the meantime, it is kind of nice to be cradled to a massive, warm chest. to know, like your own name, that anything that tries to harm you wouldn't be around to do so much longer.

Let Ben Hargreeves be an imperfect person.

Let him nag people to death as he sits on his moral high horse. Let him be snarky and bitter and jealous of the fact that he never got to live his life. Let him be immature and refuse to admit his own faults. Let him be frustrated with Klaus because he made the choice to stick around and not go into the light. Let him fail at being the voice of reason because honestly he’s been dead for seventeen years and doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Let him be a condescending, selfish hypocrite who is desperate for control. Let him be the type of person who hates losing. Let him call his siblings “narcs” and “narcissists” when he doesn’t agree with them. Let him be the type of scummy jerkwad that starts a crypto scam and helps his brother start a cult. Let him act like a miserable little pessimist who hates not getting his way. Let him be utterly pathetic and awkward and just kinda suck.

Let him be a Hargreeves.

Random Thought: G/T Fearplay as a way of giving up control

Just vibing with my very very tired thoughts today, and saw a few G/T fearplay posts, and began wondering, 'Why do we like it?'

For me, I think it's because when you put yourself in the role of the tiny in a fearplay scenario (95% of the time it's the Tiny who's scared, though the opposite does happen and is hilarious), or are writing/drawing it, the fear comes not just from the threat of the giant, but the lose of control the tiny feels.

Caught by a giant? No control over where you're going or what's going to happen to you.

Chased by a giant? No control over where you can be/live, the build-up of terror of being caught, the lose of your sense of safety.

Harassed/Teased/Taunted by a giant? No control over your physical/emotional response, the flight/fight/fawn takes over.

The tiny in fearplay scenarios loses control, has it taken from them by the other character, the giant. The giant is the one in control.

And sometimes, being teens/adults with school and jobs and bills and responsibilities and so fucking much weighing on our shoulders at all times, it's nice to not be in control.

To rely on someone/something else for everything, to not have to worry about logistics or finances or the state of the world outside the grasp of whatever giant creature has found us, it sounds...nice.

If it weren't usually preceded by heart-pounding chases and screams of terror, I'd say it even sounds peaceful.

since it has been a week since I officially released it, I thought I would throw together a massive doodle dump from the past few months for stuff from "WHO WANTS TO BE THE EMPEROR?" ...featuring heavily two characters who make zero appearance in that incredibly short story. say hello to todd(icus) and unnamed visiting dignitary who is dressed in vague ahistorical robe (a.k.a. i had yet to do research on what she should wear)

LMAOOO in my head this is exactly how i imagine jack hearing quinn call baby buggy “bug” for the first time goes and him immediately being like, “wait, wait, hold on — where the hell did that even come from?” quinn, in his usual calm-but-slightly-done tone, just says, “because she’s snug as a bug,” like it’s the most obvious thing in the world and he can’t believe jack even has to ask. but of course jack, being jack, can’t let it go, unconvinced, because what tf does that even mean????? “snug as a bug? what’s so snug about a bug? that makes no sense, dude.” and quinn just sighs, gives him that long-suffering, how am i related to you? look, and says, “because the bug is in a rug. that’s literally the saying.” and then there’s this perfect beat of silence while jack just stares at him, processing, before he goes, “…oh yeah. i forgot about the rug." 😭😭

quincy’s such an important and well-written character, i legitimately feel bad for people who haven’t gotten to know him or somehow don’t like him because hello?? do you have any idea what you’re missing?? how big his heart is?? the emotional growth he goes through as he allows himself to feel and love more openly and honestly??

how he’s so used to being the caretaker of other people but couldn’t grasp the concept that the people he cares for want to look after him too?? how he didn’t see the point in forming relationships because he’s so used to outliving everyone he knows and loves, but eventually came to realize it’s still worth it to form memories in the present?? the way that he’s sleepy and prefers to let troublesome matters handle themselves but he never does a job half assed and will most definitely come through when he’s needed?? how he always stands up for what’s right and takes him job as forest guardian incredibly seriously?? how he’s willing to go against his own principles and use essence, something he has an abundance of but hardly ever uses, to save two animals who were on the brink of death that he worked so hard to treat, because when it comes down to it he is not the kind of man to give up on anyone or anything??

how he’s consciously trying to express himself more clearly and be more direct with his wording because he knows he looks aloof and is rather blunt, and how that can be intimidating to some people?? how he’s protective of the younger clan members like garu and yakumo and looks out for them in whatever way he can, whether that be through giving advice or personally making sure they’re safe?? and how he’s not used to comforting or consoling people but will still try his hardest to, no matter how awkward he feels while doing it?? how he’s actually pretty playful and competitive when he wants to be?? and how on several occasions he actually gets shy and prefers to keep his thoughts and feelings to himself because he’s too embarrassed to share them??

do you get it???? do you understand why quincy is so much more than just a sleepy, lazy guy with a cute animal companion????

Viola has one spell that does damage (mockery) and a dagger. Everything else is utility.

If it's not meant to keep their meat shields (party members) alive, it's meant to make sure they're all as undetected as absolutely possible. at 4'9" they're already barely noticeable as it is.

With one exception.

Viola, who is not proficient in playing a viola, is, however, Proficient in Bag Pipes.

honestly peering through the vengence saga and SPOILERS but the idea of poseidon coming back can be either deeply sinister or deeply hilarious depending on if you choose to go with the interpretation of the original myth where he was absent during athena's plea bc he was vacationing in ethiopia and is now coming back to the worst welcome back party ever (re: getting stabbed several times in the chest by that One Asshole he thought he was done with) or that he WAS present during athena's plea and purposefully chose not to say anything because he was waiting for odysseus to come within reach of ithaca, which does seem to be implied by the first bit of lyrics in get in the water "I've been waiting for this moment/.../When your home's so close and you've reached your coast/that's when our paths collide" but ough,,,,
