First impression

Once again gonna go for a pre-reading impression, bc honestly I really think the fandom osmosis impression I got was so off imho. So, Kabru first impression:

I LOVE HIM... He's constantly agonizing over everything he does and the impact it could have and the big picture and its gonna burn him out completely someday if he doesn't slow down and realize he's allowed to live for himself sometimes. In a story chock full of survivor's guilt he is Mister Survivor's Guilt. He feels like he needs to do something to earn his existence, and that's such a heavy burden he has put on himself. Ough.

Favorite moment

There are a ton of little parts from the story that I love, but I actually want to highlight this bit from one of the Adventurer's Bible comics that lives with me:

I don't know, there's just something... something about it. Allowing Mithrun the privacy of his own story is such a strange kindness. Who else but Kabru could have thought to provide it?

Kabru, who wears Utaya across his shoulders everywhere he goes, but also never shares much about his mom, his food, the things he misses from Utaya. Or the superstitions about his eye color, and the ways that even the place he misses most wasn't always a kind home to him. Kabru, who has learned exactly how to cut up the piece of his own story in order to be able to hold the weight of them all and do the things he needs to do.

Kabru looks at Mithrun, someone who doesn't have the ability to care for himself, and provides this service to him. Offers him privacy. Privacy. The people around Mithrun have cared for him for years, but who has given him this?? Food, sleep, water, basic hygiene... but Mithrun deserves dignities beyond that too, even if he isn't able to ask for them.

And Kabru takes his eye for creating palatable stories, which he has often used to make himself fit in or force himself through unpleasant things, and uses it to help Mithrun in a way that no one else had.

Idea for a story

I don't have anything super specific here, just a GREAT DESIRE for post-canon Kabru stuff. I want to see him and Marcille become friends. I want to see him struggle to figure himself out now that his driving motive has been resolved. I want to see him forced to consider that he can't always do things for the Bigger Picture. I want to see how his relationships with his party members change. I want to see the adventures of the Laios - Marcille - Kabru trio. Pleaaaaaaase

Unpopular opinion

He's not just a hater in a dungeon.......

Like for sure his feelings about Laios are complicated and boy can they include Haterism, but also he is like the only person who vouches for Laios at certain points. Kabru intentionally chooses to have faith in him at several key moments, and the ending of the story hinges upon that faith.

I think he's got a very black and white way of looking at things sometimes, and he likes to be in control. This is where the haterism can come in.

BUT there's so much more than just that to him. Kabru is an extremely caring person in general. He notices details about people and often uses those observations to care for them - Mithrun in the example above, for instance, or the way that he thinks about how hard it would be for Rin to go back to the elves when considering whether to hand the dungeon over to them. He has a strong sense of justice. He is loyal to his promises.

I just wish those elements of his personality were given more significance in the fandom :/

Favorite relationship

Gotta go with him and Mithrun here. They bring out such interesting sides to each other. Some of my favorite moments are them surviving in the dungeon together, and of course that comic is one of my fave moments. The way Kabru understands him and continually chooses to use that understanding to provide kindness and support to Mithrun... it's good.

But also I think that Mithrun gets to a core part of Kabru that Kabru usually tries to keep hidden. Some part of the survivor's guilt, I think... the way Kabru is driven by a sense of obligation to a thing he Cannot Ever Bring Back.

They both pull something out of the other that no one else does, at least over the course of the story.

Favorite headcanon

Hmmmmm... does "he and Marcille will be besties someday" count? I think it counts. I love the idea of them being gossip-heads.

I'm so glad to have encountered a fellow Cecil stan. I freaking love coming up with headcanons for Cecil, platonic or romantic, because he's such an interesting character. For real though feel free to dump any Cecil headcanons (platonic or romantic) on me anytime.

BUT YES .. cecil's character is just so interesting to analyze. he does unethical, necessary things. But he doesn't subscribe to idealistic notions of "the greater good" or justifying his actions to make himself sleep better at night. He knows the harsh reality that someone has to make the difficult decisions, no matter how unethical. The psychological toll it takes to calculate how many civilian lives can be spared, and how many are inevitably lost in order to achieve the optimal outcome. He doesn't celebrate after victories like the other heroes do. After the dust settles, his mind is already racing - calculating, strategizing how to prevent future catastrophes. How to minimize casualties next time.

his methods are...questionable,, as ive said,, but there's a hint of nobility to it that just makes you respect him, A SHADY GOVERNMENT CHAR that does the dirty work and takes in all the heat for it so no one else has to? SIGN ME TF UP! i love exploring his character and all the little glimpses of humanity we get to see from him,, especially with debbie, SO SOFT FOR HER, there's so much depth there. that old fuck would MOVE mountains for her if he could,, TRUST. EVEN though he doesnt deserve her .. <<

LETS CONTINUE TO CIRCLE BACK TO S1 with his confrontation w Nolan in the desert, the way he entrusted his survival to the skills of his team operating that teleporter watch (I'm aware he can control it himself, I think this was just my interpretation of it since the employees seemed directly involved here). The margin for error was nonexistent. One miscalculation, one millisecond too slow, and Cecil would have been reduced to a red smear across miles of sand. MY WIFE HAS BALLS ON HIM. (also love walton goggins breathy lil giggles here .. hwaghffhh)

All this, All the whilst Nolan could have ended him with a casual backhand, as easily as swatting a fly. And for what? For humanity's (mostly his) right to know the truth. For Debbie's right to understand what she had truly married because Cecil respects her that fucking much for her to have a part in all of this, and what fate may lay in store for her son.

AND what I particularly liked about that scene is that unlike most SHADY GOV CHARS ™.. Cecil isn't afraid to regularly place himself in life-threatening situations, and for that im just.. FKING obsessed. finally. a hyper competent gov char that gets shit done and occasionally by his own hands instead of always puppeteering in the shadows. Love u .. love u honey snooch, please stop putting yourself in danger for your crazy alien side-hoes .

but ahem ... back to s2.. and some flaws of his that i'm not afraid to point out. the way he's been treating mark is killing me. manipulating my son by comparing him to his dad then keeping him on lock by saying he's not like him??? The breadcrumming definitely didn't work out at all, cuz Mark is too damn stubborn to continue to be swindled by fear tactics he does not give a shit for anymore (homegirl DEBBIE taught him better) hes not gonna listen to a cranky skullet-having side bitch of nolans who clearly has been tryna manipulate him since s1. i HATED how he went "ur broke tyrannical bitch father felt the same way" in the last minute when mark tried to leave earth and yet i still lobve ceci cause ough,,.. my bastard wife knew something was probably up.

Him wanting to keep a short leash on MARKY could be summed up after all that has happened in s1. i'm not going to justify his scummy manipulations or paranoia,, especially after all the shit mark has done and endured to prove himself over and over again that he's not like his father BUT its somewhat understandable for cecil 2 be wary if you look from it in his perspective.

Debbie was semi-right in her deduction in s2 ep2, that this is what it's really all about for Cecil - being in control. Not of any situation, but of Mark. To ensure history does not repeat itself in the form of Mark becoming another Nolan. imo He likely doesn’t actually view Mark as his father, Not saying the possibility of it being a part of Cecil's subconsciousness is out of the equation but the way I see it? He was just exploiting that one weakness, that one insecurity Mark has - the fear of becoming like Nolan. And it’s a fear Cecil seemed to prey upon to keep Mark under his thumb and in the fucking GAME.

But Debbie and Mark share so many similar characteristics as well and i wish that was talked a bit more often &lt; 3 (I will go in depth about it at a later post.)

Stanley isn't trapped in this situation at all and he's also been on the streets for years at that point and has a lot of his street smarts he has in canon. Ford is in his life because Stan grabbed him by the ear and dragged him along and it's gotta drive Ford up the walls. And Stan doesn't trust Ford for shit, and Ford doesn't pay the bills or help much with the kids, so Ford is like a pet to him. Sometimes some manipulation Ford said will start getting to Stan like 'Oh Ford's right maybe I have gotten a bit fat...' but then Stan remembers he gets to be fat because he makes the food money and Ford is his bitch. I need them to divorce but also it's more likely one beats the other to death. If Bill shows up in this Ford is even more involved with him because Bill said he'd help get Ford his power back in the relationship but instead Stan made him sleep on the couch with a tinfoil hat :(

I'm glad you put the bad ending au on the table because between that one and this au there's a good way of comparisons to do, after all they both follow the same line: Stanford forced Stanley to have his babies and stay with him. Except that here is in a case where life was more with Stanley's side this time lol

I didn't go into it too much but even if Stanley is out of the closet he is still treated in a derogatory manner by the people around him thanks to the sexist thoughts of the time. Ford still thought of him as a destined stay-at-home husband, he would still be going to marry at such a young age for getting pregnant to please both his parents and Carla's and as I said before nobody cared what he really wanted, everyone took him for granted as a future father no matter his age or his dreams. """Luckily""" Ford help him avoiding some of it so he can follow his sick ideas but Stanley's opinion still didn't matter, But unlike the bad ending au, Stan wasn't that easy to control as much as Ford believe it. He collected learnings from his adventure fleeing all over the country along with Ford and as time passed he was seeing how much his brother was doing to just make things worse, ya know what? Fuck him, he was Stanley Pines: the New Jersey's badass, the great conman and a boxing promise, an smart-street man who has lost to much in change of nothing, Stanford could be way smart than him in so much things (and we don't gonna lie Stan's self-esteem was still pretty low for let Ford do all that things to him) but he was the one who threw the punches, the protector, the one who must be sure of them both to be safe and he must do the only thing he was worth for in his life.

I think of Stan's feelings about Ford as a bit of a Stockholm syndrome? I mean, Stanley wasn't crazy enough to admire and allow Ford to continue taking control over him, but he did still see him as superior no matter what he had done to him, Ford still had a future to pursue, he was not a complete failure in life unlike him and even though his trust was broken Stan continued to take care of him because his mind did not allow him to do the right thing and get revenge for everything he had done to him and let him rot in prison, Stan didn't want that to him. he didn't want Ford to be that near him, he didn't want to accept his kisses or feel his hands around him but he doesn't wanted to lost him anyway.

Ford was a little nuisance who was always in Stan's side, he wanted to ignore him but sometimes it was impossible to. sure, it didn't have as much power over him as it once had but it was still able to make Stan question himself even if it was just a little bit. (Perhaps ford could try to get Stan's self-esteem even worse to the point of making him think there wouldn't be anyone who would ever want him anymore because he was a failed fat single father of two except Ford and so that way Stan would accept again to ford of being more close to him?)

ABOUT BILL yknow i was thinking about that yesterday, You see i do think he would ended up in Ford's life but how much of influence he could be to that?

Because look, I'm going to use a little bit of the same coin theory here but we can't deny that part of what made Ford so easy for Bill to manipulate it was the state Ford was in repressing that mix of resentment and palpable pain to Stan, meeting someone who was just as charismatic and even called him like Stan used to was a way of bill's to gain Ford's trust even quicker along with giving him the approbation he always wanted.

So, In a world where Stanley's was still in Ford's life i do think would make Harder to Bill get fully into Ford's mind since he was already obsessed with someone being that his twin brother lol. But That could be a double-edged sword because Bill would know what Ford's weak point was and try to get him by directly going into that. Not only he's promising him Infinite knowledge but also having Stan back under his ropes, Making his sweet brother love him and depend fully on him again..

BUT, Bill was missing something: The main target was Stanley Pines (or Forrester as he was known..) not an average person, not someone he could cheat as easy as he could with his twin brother. You see how in Tbob all the people that Bill ever tried to convince for his portal ended up realizing his true intentions and go against him?, In Ford's case it got harder because it really took him long until he saw bill's true face but luckily for him in this au his protector was near him, so Bill's games wouldn't be as effective he at first thought.

Bill wasn't a real threat to Stan, that was Ford by himself...

How do you interpret US Papyrus? I'm always curious how others interpret him because there's a good range of them!

Ooh, in general?? Hm, I guess mostly the way I try to interpret him is sort of like if you gave UT Papyrus chronic fatigue and issues tied to having to act as the judge in his world! Which, to me, basically makes him very silly, kind, sassy, but also very insecure and very lonely.

I should explain- ough this is gunna be an essay so there'll need to be a readmore soon aha, but I should explain how the whole "judge" thing usually works in my interps!

It's not an inherent thing, or some "angel given" power, there has always been an acting Royal Judge, someone the crown had appointed that they felt they could, well, trust the judgement of, who they could consult about crimes and justice and whatnot. The prior judge Fell some years ago, but since Toriel/Asgore had already left, Asgore/Toriel never appointed another, as a sort of self punishment as well as a promise they would continue with their task of collecting the human souls without the assistance (or interference) of someone else.

That was until Sans/Papyrus came along. The "judging" effect was caused by one of the many methods Gaster used to make the brothers, involving the justice soul trait. This is where the KR came from, as well as the unique ability to "see" the sins in others' souls. After discovering this unique ability, eventually the king/queen asks Sans/Papyrus to act as the new judge (as well as some other reasons that vary depending on AU).

Now, the kr and "judge" ability manifested in Stretch much later than the sanses in non-swapped AUs, which made it a much more difficult transition that only made it much harder for him to socialize with others. He basically couldn't "turn it off", which, on top of feeling incredibly guilty about the invasion of privacy, made him feel anxious and stressed out and couldn't help but put the negative thoughts front and center in his attention, making him also feel like those were the most prominent thoughts and feelings of those around him.

So like, you know how anxiety and self image issues make you feel like everyone secretly hates you or finds you annoying or etc etc etc, basically, he had "proof" that was true, and despite trying his best to ignore it, things are already hard enough for a pre-teen/teen, on top of his physical health taking such the dip it did around that time, too, he quickly became anxiety riddled, isolated, and miserable.

Before then, he was actually a lot like Rus (UT) when he was a kid! And it was hard on Blue, too, since he was practically just a teen himself, so for all of that to land on his brother as well as needing to work harder to take care of him when he had bad health flares, things were rough for a while there.

That being said, Blue did help in keeping Stretch's mental health from completely plummeting, always trying to keep his mood up, encouraging him, trying to find him friends (how he met Undyne aka Sylv!), etc etc, and the brothers grew a lot closer in that time, as Stretch had always admired Blue, and it meant a lot to him.

That was until, of course, things never got any better. His health continued to decline into older teendom/young adulthood, and there was some personal drama here and there, especially involving Sylv, and when Blue joined the guard, that was the last straw. Stretch was sick of feeling like such a burden on everyone, so even though he'd initially turned Toriel down to act as judge (knowing his brother absolutely hated that she'd even asked him in the first place), he went back to her and accepted. That was really when the distance between the brothers started, which wasn't helped by the resets starting up soon thereafter.

(Quick aside, as he got older, he did get the hang of controlling his "judging" ability, and "turning it off" is no longer an issue for him later on)

So in his efforts to become more independent, he worked a lot on his social life and how to interact with others and make himself well liked. Sure, maybe he doesn't really have any real friends, and people forget his name all the time, but he'd finally learned how to utilize his heightened intuition to get along with people, rather than weird them out.

He’s still riddled with anxiety and self worth issues, but he’s gotten incredibly good at masking, and typically comes off as very relaxed and friendly. He’s a big fan of wordplay and very mild practical jokes (like those types of gags where you put on Groucho Marx glasses and pretend to be someone else. Blue always plays along for the bit), but he has a tendency to hold people at arms length, and tries to avoid others actually getting to know him.

Very few people know he’s the judge, and he prefers it that way, he'd rather everyone underestimate him so he never disappoints. That being said, he does still make quite an effort to help those around him without their knowledge, and he’s still lowkey very interested in engineering and computer science. Him and Rus are definitely two peas in a pod when it comes to interests, they could talk about comics for hours on end, but the primary difference is that Stretch tries much harder to hide how much he cares, where as Rus will shout it from the rooftops.

I'm not a big fan of the characterizations that make him a huge brat, sometimes even an outright jerk, I don't really understand them since neither Sans nor Papyrus are like that, but w/ my guy, he’s definitely a huge dork and sweetheart, who just also happens to be very sassy at times ahdjfjsksk

He also still holds on to his belief in others, like Rus. Even despite literally knowing better, he’s also been proven right too many times to lose that hope, which is why, in his fight, as opposed to UT Sans, he gets very quiet and looks miserable. He genuinely doesn't want to hurt them, but he knows he’s out of options. When he offers an out before the fight, he won't spring a surprise attack, and just offers a genuine hug. The player doesn't get a choice after accepting, they kill him, and his final words are pretty similar to Rus' about knowing they can do better, and he believes in them anyway, though he makes a comment about that sounding pretty stupid with a laugh before he collapses off screen.

WOW this got longer than I meant it to I'm sorry huge lore drop instead of just general facts ough BUT ! Idk, hopefully this gives a half decent feel for how I interpret him! I love him a lot I'm mixing him into a salad like a crouton <3

Hey! I've got a random Flowey question I thought of while drawing him and I'm curious about your opinion on it since you have awesome takes on him!

Do you think that being on the surface surrounded by so many new things, people and possibilities would be really enriching to him or do you think it'd be super overwhelming for him to have so much happening that's suddenly out of his control? Maybe he'd lowkey benefit from from being forced to be in a situation he can't control? What do you think?

ooo i actually think about this a lot.... something that comes to mind when i think about how he says everything was boring in the underground is that at any moment he could have allowed himself to just keep living and let the world go on naturally. but no he constantly resets and i think its because he finds comfort in the familiarity and that at least he knows everything that's going to happen. it's like how people are scared to go to therapy and get better because they're so used to being depressed that anything new and good is very overwhelming and almost feels wrong in a way

so i think being on the surface and being out of control would be EXTREMELY overwhelming and scary for him but also very good!! if he is to ever recover and move on from what happened he needs to have his control issues dealt with, which is why frisk makes such an impact. he HAS to simply accept that things are out of his hands now and he can't keep blaming himself for what happened and what might happen in the future, which i think is also why he warns us to let frisk live their life. his resets have all been caused by him wanting to go back or seeing what could possibly be done to get the outcome he wants

he's pretty much been living in a prison built from his regrets and being shown that he can't keep regretting everything and that the only way he will be able to get better is to accept that things are out of his metaphorical hands and stop placing so much blame on himself for things that WERE out of his control. him saying that he doesn't think he could do it all again says so much about how much he's changed since frisk first fell and it's likely from kind of being able to view his situation through someone else... he really struggles to understand others but frisk is the one person he feels he Can understand so whatever he says to them must count for him too. something something if frisk has the power to reset and go back but chooses to keep living what is stopping flowey from doing the same

so yeah i think being on the surface would be deeply upsetting in several ways, especially cuz he likely feels a lot of guilt that chara couldn't have been there to see the monsters freedom and that if they're gone maybe he shouldn't be allowed to enjoy this. but also his relationship with frisk and realizing he is out of control is really good for him and that despite how overwhelming the surface might be at first i think after a good amount of therapy he'll be able to be mostly happy and accept the world hes in now <3

okay what i meant when i said that even the copious amounts of blood didn't satiate me in particular is that the dead wife/nemesis thing was never something i was eager to see explored, just because i think it's something a lot of male characters get? to go through? the ooh i'm so tortured someone took something from me and now i can't help but turn into a monster while i'm on this quest for revenge and being smothered by grief ough i might kill them even or others in gruesome ways and then realize i'm still just as empty

because, i think men often feel the role they must take on as a man or as a father (especially the latter) is a burden, a huge one, where they aren't allowed to sit back or let go or forgive to their own and everyone else's detriment.. and i understand why there is demand for the same type of stories or story elements or arcs, and why they work, and this same overall theme can be present in a story where it's dealt with in an interesting way or where there's love and care involved in the writing process and the characters don't feel like "man pain machine #48" and "generic sensitive character who will cradle mr. man pain's bloody face in their hands (when we want to end this arc and show how good and lovable he actually is)"....

idk i'm just saying it's not even a specific problem i have with male characters that avenge their families or seem like they're defined by anger or by a traumatic event, i do think it can be written lazily and that we've seen it so many times it's a bit worn-out now, but i wouldn't be quick to generalize. it's just that, since we've seen this before (and that's partly why they poked a bit of fun at themselves when in rickmurai jack, rick's dead wife backstory was revealed).. to me it's one of the least interesting aspects of rick? and yet it's clearly important to the writers and they felt they had to tackle this part of his character, really emphasize his unfinished business, or treat it like something that must have a conclusion

for me though, rick's brand of fucked up and evil wasn't compelling because something deeply fucked up happened to him and there's a lot to deal with there and that's cool, it was more compelling to me (iirc) Before knowing much about his past. tbh. i recognized him already, he felt real, his worst side was familiar because a man doesn't need a whole event to become controlling and cruel when dealing with his family... social norms and umm systems sort of already operate within the framework of the patriarchy, i think it's built into our collective ideas of society, concepts of gender and family and the rules those come with.. i liked that about rick, that why he was an asshole wasn't detailed, there was no easy explanation for the way that he was, he just was. and every time they chose to drive home that rick's defined by losing his original family to his own alternate self and that he was still chasing this one guy, it was like, well i thought there were so many other components as well to why he turned out to be who he is. i liked it more when it was mundane, because that's what i see around me, that abuse is rather mundane. and i'm much more interested in the harm he's directly inflicted on his current family and how his past might affect his current life, what might haunt him. so i guess i never wanted prime to be taken care of, each week i find myself thinking that i just want it to be rick and morty and their messed up little relationship up close and personal again

I’ve actually thought about this a lot. I think Tyler is very firmly of the belief that there shouldn’t be laws outlawing homosexuality because that is not the governments business to control. However, I also don’t think he gives a shit about whether or not gay marriage gets legalized, because he’s very nebulous about his opinions on marriage and thinks it’s none of the governments business who you decide to spend the rest of your life with

That said, Tyler IS bisexual, but he doesn’t use that word to describe himself. Tyler doesn’t like all the specific terminology and the labels and the flags for every single thing. If you had him read a Twitter thread of two chronically online people he’d get a headache. Now, with that in mind, I definitely don’t think Tyler is someone who believes you shouldn’t be open about your sexuality or your gender. He thinks everyone should do what makes them happy, and if someone else doesn’t like it, LETS KILL EM.

However, I think Tyler is very opposed to and actively disgusted by the sanitization of pride. The idea that gay and trans people should just assimilate and be as similar to cishet people as possible… ough that shit makes him heated. Pride started as a riot. Pride is about hating cops for being so up in your business about what you like to do in your free time. The fact that it has becomes such a thing that cops are involved in the process and companies feel comfortable putting their name on it? Gives him the ick real bad.

i don't knowwww it's mostly vibes based tbh

i wasn't really ranking them according to who i thought was "A tier" or "C tier" i just ranked them in reference to each other

i did replay the game after making the list just in case and it's like. first of all, the music still slaps i'd forgotten about that, but also it's so short there really isn't actually much characterisation unfortunately

and that's the main issue i have with any of the girls lower than an A tier, they just aren't as interesting to me as the rest. except beel. i never liked beel all that much. didn't really gel with her design from the start idk. cerberus is down there too cause honestly i don't have much to say about her, all the girls have their own gimmicks of sorts to help them stand out and for cerberus her's is being a hyperactive dog girl who controls three bodies with one mind, which is cool! but it's not much of a personality trait, so she ends up being one of the plainer ones imo, even if she's wonderful

anyway starting from the top, justice being there was inevitable, of course she is. but lucy's always been my fav though, she has one of my favourite designs, she's used to getting everything she wants but also she never gets a damn thing she wants, she's sadistic in a much more subtle way than pandemonica that i enjoy a lot more. in the context of the game i think she and the helltaker suit each other the best, they both love pancakes and they're both constantly stuck cleaning up after everyone else's bullshit, i mean they have matching "satan" aprons in the epilogue for chri- hm. and in examtaker when she says subject 67 reminds her of a man she knew long ago. ough, she clearly cares about him toooooo it's very sweet. tbh it definitely helps that i can chuck everything i already know about lucifer into her character and make it infinitely more complex than it would have been, which is great, i love a sympathetic lucifer. she's cute and sweet and evil and blatantly toying with you, hell yeah

i almost put judgement at the top too, but i ended up keeping that to just my fav. and justice. anyway i'd be hard-pressed not to say this was my favourite design, i mean her whole part of the game was awesome. she clearly doesn't get many compliments which is a shame, when you do compliment her i just think it's really cute:3 oh and those chains. whew. i mean what. uhh, the substance abuse sisters! they have a fantastic dynamic together, in that they have an awful dynamic but it's very entertaining. malina is great, someone to play videogames and ttrpgs with ofc. and zdrada is hilarious, the bitchy demon just waiting for someone to tell her off~ fjdkjdks then she's on her best behaviour when pandemonica's around lmao. also that comic where she wears glasses and gets so flustered over being called adorable the ensuing conflict lasted days. which is adorable

now azazel and loremaster are just fun characters, i enjoy that she exists but idk, she's also just a little bit.. one note, to me. but i guess you can say that about any of them. nevertheless i can't ignore her narrative contributions, but if she didn't have that loremaster future side of her she'd probably be down with cerberus. however for modeus i'm reconsidering her tier, like if i put judgement up a tier i'd put modeus up a tier too y'know? she has what's probably my third favourite design, the sweater is a fun departure from the more standard dress-ware most of the others are in, and all the hearts floating around her head are cool too ^^ personality wise the choice for her to not know about romance and end up thinking it's the kinkiest thing ever is inspired, and the comics she's in are all great

pandemonica is a bit of a shame to me cause having those two personalities feels like it should be fun and interesting, but both personalities end up feeling kinda void of actual personality. she spends most of the game in sleepy mode which means she's just tired, doing her job, which'd mute anyone's personality tbf. like it makes sense how as the custodian of hell as well as the first demon you meet that she just kinda lets you know what's up and tries to keep things in order, but that doesn't make it feel any less plain. when you do get her coffee though her sadistic mode is just so intense it feels like there's still nothing else there. with lucy there was that manipulation and playfulness but here it's just *threatens harm*, it's like instead of two personalities she's just got two personality traits, and you only get 1 at a time. in the comics there's more of her sadistic mode but it still doesn't add much, like there's that bit with zdrada which is funny but it's way more of a zdrada moment, for pandemonica it's just threatening someone the same way she always does. i know she has that third nice and sweet personality when she gets proper good coffee, which is funny and adds some needed depth to her character but we only hear about that once and never actually see it, i get why though, a secret niceys personality for her is funny to imagine but actually showing it off betrays the purpose of her character

ough. ask me the hard questions why dont you???? so i thought about doing a firewatch au scene but i actually think the genuine answer is a combination of two separate scenes in How to Be a Human Being that i personally have never emotionally recovered from. these two scenes are also the ones i think of first when i think about the narrative themes of the fanfic. the first would be chapter six, aka the scene that set the theme for the entire fanfic and the one i wrote months ahead of time until i caught up to where it is. it's this part:

So while Reshiram and Zekrom are still kinda dicks to Hilda and Hilbert, I feel like they’re still kinda chill with them after a while. Like they’re not fighting for control 24/7 like Kyurem is to Iris, but they’ll still try once in a while. Like maybe they’re still healing after that fight Ghetsis caused

But I was thinking about why Kyurem would chose a 10 yo instead of waiting for someone else to show up. And like what if he chose her because he thought it would be easy for her to relent and let him take over her body once he threatens her with death. But Iris probably has a shit ton of will power if she’s kept control up until this point

Ough but yeah, would Drayden (and the rest of the League) even know it’s Iris that’s Kyurems new host? Cause she was used for Kyurems power by Team Plasma. Also Kyurem was practically tortured in Bw2 to make it use its power to attack cities. Can’t imagine the pain Iris feels. And if I’m remembering correctly, Kyurem was electrocuted or something to make it fire a Glaciate

So they probably did the same thing to Iris just in a smaller scale to not kill her, but still fucking painful. She can never catch a break, first tortured by Kyurem then by Team Plasma

One last thing, but imagine how the League is feeling. Their Champion was attacked and then kidnapped by Team Plasma which is bad in itself. But now they don’t know if she’s being held in the Frigate or another unknown location. So when the Frigate got destroyed after a few icy attacks, it’s like a 50/50 chance their champion was involved in that attack so now they don’t even know if she survived

Anyways yeah the league bcmdnd idk, imagine them trying to look for her too, and ofc the people of Lacunosa had said they last saw the Frigate near the Chasm, so they went there, searched every nook and cranny, but they never found Iris. Maybe she really hid herself from them, maybe she's really dead, either way,, well,, the E4 has to tell Drayden of the loss, how they never found Iris or any trace of her.

And just ncmxnd ough Iris showing herself to Nate bc Kyurem still needs the Splicers, and maybe Drayden gave Nate the Splicers still, hoping that Nate would track down Plasma and save Iris from Kyurem, but now that he found her, she's probs too far gone already, she's like, trying so hard to stop Kyurem from hurting Nate, and while they were both weak, Iris knew not to underestimate the boundary pkmn, as he's so so fucking determined to get the Splicers

Now tho would Nate even tell the League where Iris is, or maybe Kyurem got him trapped too?? Or maybe,, Iris and Kyurem really became one,, like, idk how the describe this sorry my braincells are so dead I just got home from my class, but like, do you see my vision for this?? Iris managing to fight off Kyurem that their souls or smth clashed, and it got to the point that they really became a singular being, one without any of its memories anymore, an empty husk. Or maybe smth like that, but instead of losing the memories, KyuRis became a more unstable and aggressive being, attacking anything in their path, and just bcmdnd ough Nate having to fight them tho, still holding on to that hope and promise to Drayden that he'll save Iris

Ough I'm still thinking about this, I absolutely love Doll and Uzi being sisters and that is giving me lots of ideas, hope you don't mind OP

It's always different from person to person but always thought of Yeva and her husband dying first before Nori 'does'. So my head immediately goes to Doll being still so shocked and terrified until Uzi is the one to reach out and hold and comfort her. May not know the pain but Yeva was also like a mother to her. (Maybe idea, Yeva is 'mom', Nori is 'mama') Uzi is not the best at all but she does her most and it means a lot to Doll when no one else does. (Nova would be with Nori, so they're safe and getting support there)

Later on, when it's Nori's turn, it really really hurts Uzi. Even more so as if she even tried to get support from Khan, she gets none as he distance himself from who should be his 3 child.. but Uzi got to stay strong, Nova is also affected by it and so I could see her comfort them, as Doll now comfort the both of them.

Honestly having a sister by her side and another who looks up to her, Doll would get a lot more support she needs to be 'more stable'. Maybe since Khan is doing nothing, the Three of them moves together. Doll and Uzi are messy in their own ways but for Nova I'm sure they would have more motivation to keep moving, to clean and take care of one another. Not only that, but when the solver comes, I'm sure Uzi's no nonsense would spot something different in Doll and get her to spill out what is happening and helping her control herself.

On the other side, Uzi not being completely alone could help her as well. Sure, she's not extroverted but at least she would have someone to listen to her without judgement. Heck, Doll would for sure grab Uzi by the hoodie and force her to actually do things she should do, like talking to some people and helping Uzi watch her own angsty anger issues so she doesn't snap at people as easily.

Now comes school which shows how different Uzi and Doll can be. I could actually see Uzi telling Doll to not defend her. Like, Uzi fearing that her own reputation would lead to Doll suffering them same.. and maybe she tells Doll that if not to do it for herself, than to do it for Nova. Because when Nova gets of age to go to their school, having Doll high up like the social butterfly she is, would let her be able to protect Nova from any bullying or harshness Uzi is suffering.

Tho I'm sure Doll would have her limits. Especially if someone said to Uzi like 'maybe her mom killed herself because of her' which would lead to Doll not being afraid to slam the head of whoever said that into the wall and make sure they remember that Nori was her mother as well.
