everything i know about interview with the vampire (amc), from someone who has not watched interview with the vampire (amc) and has only consumed it via mutuals rb'ing gifsets but plans to watch it soon
this is my pre-gaming for watching this show. dipping a metaphorical toe into the fandom. i haven't read the books either.
there are 3 vampires: lestat, louis, and armand
armand's name may or may not be amadeo?
lestat and louis had a daughter named claudia
claudia was unhinged (which is fair. i would be too if i was stuck at age 15 forever)
claudia had a girlfriend named madeline
claudia and madeline died together (without even having kissed each other. true love? sapphic teenagerism? perhaps both)
claudia's death caused lestat and louis to break up after like a century of dating or something
armand killed claudia?
there was a play involved in claudia's death...? i am incredibly confused about this one
either it was a play or an execution
the love triangle seems convoluted
armand is in love with louis and lestat is also in love with louis and lestat & armand have definitely also fucked each other
louis should just get the hell out of there actually. free my boy louis !!!
the interview is being done by daniel molloy who is bi (?) and definitely into that kinky shit
daniel molloy fucked either louis or armand in his youth (during the 80s maybe?). possibly he fucked both. the human pet of the marriage
daniel's memories got messed with to... forget fucking the vampires? idk. p sure armand did it though
that seems to be the consensus for most things in this show
armand did it.
claudia died? armand did it. daniel's memory got wiped? armand did it. louis stubbed his toe? armand probably did it.
armand needs to be sent to vampire jail this guy's a menace
also lestat had a midlife crisis after louis left him for armand and became a rockstar. i hope they release his songs on spotify as marketing. i wanna hear it
BONUS: lestat's album flops? armand did it.
anyway now daniel is old and interviewing armand and louis in dubai?
armand eats suicidal ppl?
daniel causes armand and louis' marriage to fall through
that's louis' 2nd failed marriage
surprisingly not his fault either time i think
armand turns daniel into a vamp
this is signficiant because armand has never turned anyone into a vamp
armand is going to fuck that old man
that old man has kids apparently
and swore someone out on live tv
BONUS 2: daniel got turned into a vampire? armand did it.
seriously what the hell is armand's problem (said affectionately. i have a feeling he's gonna be my fav when i watch)
does lestat know daniel?
claudia may or may not return from the dead
if she does i'll blame that on armand too
is armand french or not? he lives in dubai. has a french accent (?) but also not.
lestat is french. louis and claudia are american.
surprisingly, the americans are the nicest of the bunch. rare american W
also can lestat fly? did he throw louis from like... a 4 story height? ppl on twitter were mad abt it like last year
are there any other characters in this show except the ones i've named. it's been 2 seasons. 6 characters cannot be all there is.

i’m still thinking abt the debate we were having in the chat while rewatching ep 1 of iwtv last night…
i don’t think lestat made paul step off that roof. i think it is much more likely that paul was already struggling with the changes going on in his life — grace getting married and moving out, and louis being increasingly distant and evasive as he grew closer with lestat, and being the only one left at home and knowing his mother would rather he be institutionalized — and that those factors were the driving influence in his destabilization and suicide.
BUT. having lestat mess with his mind probably didn’t help. if you already hear voices, spending any amount of time around a vampire who flaunts his telepathy is going to fuck up your perception of reality even more. especially since so much of paul’s distress was rooted in his religious beliefs and we know how lestat feels about god and the church, i have no doubt lestat said some cruel things to him. but other than that one dinner, i dont know how much time lestat really spent around paul? sure, he could’ve fucked with him from a distance, or in passing, and i don’t think he liked paul, but i also believe him when he told louis he didn’t make paul do it. lestat has also lost brothers, and lost loved ones to suicide — even if he was going out of his way to be unkind or drive paul away from louis (out of possession, jealousy, etc) — i don’t think lestat ever Intended paul to die.
so like. i wouldn’t entirely absolve him of being a factor in paul’s death with 100% certainty, but. like. i wouldn’t entirely absolve louis either! he loved paul, absolutely, but pulling a sword on your brother and threatening him and dismissing his experiences and minimizing his concerns (even if they are rooted in hallucination or delusion, which, not all of them were!) are like. objectively not acceptable ways to treat your mentally ill sibling. and definitely doesn’t contribute to an environment where paul would’ve felt safe and secure and respected and supported, you know, all the things that combat suicidality.
and like. ultimately. lestat was a very troubling man that he met, on screen, once. even if he did continue to meddle, i think paul’s treatment from his family and the changes in his home life were probably much more significant influences in his ongoing mental state.
tldr i think it takes a lot to make someone walk off a roof. and i don’t think anyone is truly at fault for paul’s death, but i also don’t think anyone’s entirely blameless. and that’s one of many things that’s cool about the show. ambiguity is uncomfortable! no one’s hands are clean!
tldr2 Paul :^(

I know some fans get heated abt Loustat's coffin-sharing in eps 6 & 7 (+ Claudia's coffin in their room) and claim Lestat's violating their boundaries as a form of abuse/control. I'm not saying that's fully wrong, tho I think his main reason (w/ Claudia anyway) is security. Louis implies he wasn't happy with it, but weirdly both times we SEE them in their coffin they show him looking comfy and contented? Also, I wonder why not insist Lestat got his own coffin as one of their new rules in ep6?
Ha, yeah, that is a good question, isn't it.
And I think the answer is simply that Louis missed not sleeping with Lestat, and when he got him back... he couldn't fathom doing it any more. And Louis wanted him back.
Because yes, they could have gotten another coffin.
But they didn't. That's a choice.
And it's obvious at this point of the tale why Louis doesn't address that, but it's one of those things that speaks for itself nonetheless.
As per the coffin in the room with them.
I am... not a 100% sure that decision was actually one by Lestat...
We know Claudia would get in-between them, she does it on purpose when they are dancing, or... have sex. Which they have on the bed. The bed in the next room, where the main door leads to. (In order for that coffin room to have any kind of security they must've repaired the other one imho.) The door Claudia would need to go through to get to the coffin.
I just... I cannot imagine them being too happy with that. None of them?!
I have said it before, while Lestat goes paranoid in episode 7 (and Claudia wants him that way, too), I do think there's more to it. The increasing number of vampires in the US, someone threatening them. People catching onto them.
In fact... thinking about it - it would make sense for Louis to want her to sleep with them in there - to make sure she's safe. But... within the tale (at that point) it is of course easier to say that Lestat would have it no other way - because they were about to kill him, weren't they.
Louis leaves a lot of gaps in his tale. And those gaps speak almost as loud as his words, imho.

Okay so sober thoughts abt the show after reflecting and thinking abt watching ep 1;
I just don't like it. Ppl aren't ever happy to hear that but taking it as base value without thinking about the books or anything I don't enjoy it. I still have a lot of criticism about how the characters were portrayed and such, but I'll talk about more of the technical stuff that I don't like bc no one likes to hear when someone has criticisms about their favorite book being turned into a movie or show 🤓.
Anyways, first off, the dialogue was fuckin weird. Half the time there were quotes from the book sprinkled in (which i could appreciate) but the other half of the time, the dialogue was clunky and inhuman but not in the vampire sense, in the sense that whoever wrote the script didnt remember the last word they wrote and just was given a summary of the rest of the script. It's a bit infuriating.
Also as much as the aesthetic is nice, I personally think the og aesthetic would have been so fun, or even a mix of the two (Also if one of the show lovers fuckin says anything abt the slavery in the og book you know exactly what I'm talking about I'm not saying they should have owned slaves or any of that shit, I'm talking about more of the dark gothic/French royalty aesthetic). But whatever that isn't my biggest gripe.
Maybe the writing gets better after episode 1 idk but I don't care too much. I wasn't enthralled by the first episode so I likely will not be watching another bc I don't wanna waste another hour being upset at things and confused.
I also don't personally like the characters. Disregarding the book, the characters still are frustrating. Their motivations seem to constantly switch, they consistently are inconsistent with how they feel about other characters or present themselves, and none of them seem to be fleshed out or really deeply thought about. It feels very much like people who made the show wanted to just make a homoerotic vampire show targeted towards young gays who think that sex is the most important part of a relationship. It just feels very weird and I know they fuck a LOT, I'm not complaining, but I just think it's very weird that there wasn't any development from Louis about him being like "I can't be gay no no no". Some can argue there was, but i really don't agree??? Like he didn't really complain and immediately he and Lestat fucked and then he was like "no... I can't be gay". He went to church and Lestat just killed everyone there bad was like "dw abt being gay lol just be gay with me 🫶" and he immediately was just like okay sick..? Idk it seems really weird and I do hope that in the later episodes for the shows sake they explored more of this shame of his bc that seems to be a base part of his character in this.
Ima also say, Louis and Lestat are bisexual kings i really hope they don't just say Louis is gay :( but anyways.
I really just don't like the show so far and won't likely watch further. If you enjoy the show have fun, just don't be pissed off at me for enjoying the books more and indulging in book accurate fan fiction/art/content lmao
