I mean, I love Lucien so much but it’s obvious that he’s not that excited about the mating bond. It feels like it was something that was imposed on him, not something that makes him happy (as it was the case for Rhys and Cassian). He even used the world “shackled”. What can be worse than that? After a while, he didn’t even care about living someplace else and not seeing her often. He knows they’re a bad match and it’s possibly questioning the Cauldron.

I love both of them and they deserve better. Sometimes I wonder if the people that believe that Elain has to be with Lucien because he’s her mate, also believe that women should stay in unhappy, miserable marriages because they see divorce as a “sin”

Hello lovely anon!

Looooong post ahead, we are gonna get into it! I agree with you completely on this. I am a pro L/cien Elriel, and always have been. My first Tumblr post was a dissertation about Vassien for goodness sake, and my excitement for their story is genuinely second to Elriel! The secret Spell-Cleaver's son and the cursed queen, the bird of flame and lord of fire, there is so much I love about them. I did an entire breakdown on the possibilities of Vassien's story using Sarah's usual book structures and all of the information we have on them, because there is so much driving them plot wise and thematically it's actually crazy.

I think that sometimes it can be really easy to miss theme while reading these books, but it is something SJM puts a lot of work into and threads throughout her stories.

I spend a LOT of time talking about my girl Elain, and even though I love the boys they are just kinda there for me as cute little accessories for our ladies. So I appreciate this opportunity to talk more about who is right for whom from the mens perspective based on the themes woven throughout the books with a focus on L/ucien and Azriel, and whether or not Elain fits into those themes. In my opinion, these are the strongest indicators of what ultimately is being subliminally pushed by authors on the road to happiness for our characters.

I'm gonna nerd out about writing for a sec, but good writing has clean character arcs. Good romance shows the blind spots or flaws of the lead characters, and how their romantic interest will balance or push the character to growth. If there are multiple love interests, one of the love interests will undoubtedly leave the main character stagnant, or perhaps fulfill some external ideals rather than following their own heart.

Here are some examples of themes when it comes to Elain and Azriel, and I'm pushing myself to focus on Azriel here and not my girlie 🌸

Here we are being introduced to the areas where Azriel has blind spots to his own personal happiness. It is nearly impossible to get Azriel to take any time for himself that doesn't't involve work or training. He rips himself to shreds for mistakes, his perfectionism bordering on sadistic.

The time he spends with Elain is a direct foil to Azriel's inability to do anything other than work or train without being pushed to the extreme by his loved ones. He chooses to sit with Elain in the garden. He chooses to stay up until three am listening to her design plans. He chooses to rest in the sunlight with her. This is a direct tie of the author stating what this character needs, and then blatantly showing who is giving it to him.

G/wyn also trains hard and is competitive and perfectionistic. It makes total sense to me that people think this is cute, however, theme wise, it is a representation of a stagnant arc. The idea that training is a foundational element to an Az and G's potential relationship actually directly parallels Azriel's greatest obstacle to happiness- which is that he cannot allow himself to rest and *not* train.

Feyre and Rhys had to teach each other to share burdens, though it was extremely difficult. Cassian had to teach Nesta how to forgive herself and believe she was worthy of love. What Azriel needs is someone to help him believe he is worthy of rest and mistakes. These themes are tied to Elain.

There is also the issue of his hands and physical touch, and his feelings of worthiness.

Again, we discover that even if Morrigan, the woman he has supposedly been madly in love with for 500 years, stripped naked in front of Azriel, he still wouldn't touch her. We've also seen Morrigan cringe away from his hands. Meanwhile, Elain called his scarred hands beautiful. Elain initiated every act of touch in the bonus chapter. Elain moved so that his hand was covering her neck, and she wanted it.

Azriel fought against his feelings of disgust over his hands. He experienced intrusive thoughts about how he shouldn't be touching her with the things he has done. And yet, his feelings for her, and the feeling of touching her, was powerful enough to override the loop of self hate that tells him he is unworthy of being wanted.

So if Azriel's two themes that need to be challenged in his romantic relationship is lack of rest and lack of touch, Elain has already been pushing growth in those areas over multiple books. With G/wyn, whom he has not touched because of the strict line of professionalism with the priestesses and the only time they spent together training (which is also the thing Azriel uses to distract himself and push himself to the brink of exhaustion) thematically, for Azriel's specific needs in romantic growth, we are stagnant.

Moving on to L/cien, because there is a lot here for him as well and I believe we are being shown how Elain is also thematically the opposite of what L/cien needs.

Unlike Azriel, L/cien has experienced true, authentic, deep, consensual love. And the first thing he does when he meets Elain is compare her to the woman he loves, and frankly, he's not really understanding how someone like Elain could be his mate because she is so different from Jesminda.

L/cien is attracted to wildness, mischief and laughter. Someone who loved him not because of his status or stature, but choosing him for who he was. This is never going to be possible with Elain. L/cien's status as a High Lord's son plays a huge role in Rhys not wanting Azriel to interfere with their relationship. At this point, even if Azriel never pursues Elain again, that is the reason why. The Blood Duel, and L/ucien's status as a High Lord's son. If L/ucien were not these things, Rhys never would have interrupted their kiss. So even if Elain *chooses* L/cien in the end, it will never have been without question. It will never be untangled with this status as a High Lord's son, and it will never be because they weren't mates first before falling in love. In Lucien's monologue about Jesminda, we learn that the mating bond is not the ideal way for L/cien to fall in love either. With all his trauma and abuse and lack of choice in his own life, he both wants and deserves to be loved without question. This will absolutely never be true with Elain, no matter how their story develops.

Lucien desires to be chosen away from High Fae culture and societal expectations. We also see how he is drawn to things wild and free, who says to hell with all of it. I'm choosing who I love and how I show up in this world.

And then we meet the human queen Vassa.

A foul mouthed, foul tempered queen who Lucien warns Feyre of right away that she will corner her to ask for help breaking her curse (which she absolutely does 🤣)

In the same book where Lucien can't help but compare Elain to the fiery love of his life, and feel Elain was thrown at him, he winds up on an adventure with a literal firebird queen with the attitude and energy to match. Perhaps someone who could taunt and tease Lucien within an inch of his life?

Thematically, Lucien has also struggled with the concept of home. He has bounced from court to court, facing different forms of abuse and control. He has never been truly free or comfortable anywhere he has lived. And he doesn't feel truly free or comfortable in Velaris. In fact, he can't stand it.

This is similar to what happened with Jesminda and the Autumn court. Her people no longer welcome Lucien because they believe he is responsible for what happened to her. Lucien doesn't want to return to Tamlin, but Spring was his home, and now he can't return there either because those outside of the high lords manor hate him for believing him being complicit.

Lucien and Vassa are also tied thematically through themes of manipulation and two faced people selling them out.

Which again, brings us full circle to L/ucien's theme of passivity. He believes he did not protect Jesminda. That her death was a betrayal of trust. This is a deep wound that needs healing.

Meanwhile, when it comes to Elain, he has maintained a passive stance. He is always telling others to get her back, or take her here, or do this. But if something were to happen to her, he never would have been the one to step in and stop it. He is repeating his passive behavior with Elain, beyond simply staying away from her. The theme is rooted much more deeply than that. It is tied to his past traumas and failures.

Meanwhile, when it comes to Vassa, he stares out to sea and sets a target on Koschei.

Elain is not going to be the one to shake L/ucien out of passivity and into action. Vassa is. And my understanding is that even E/ucien's believe this is true, they just assume Elain will be required for some reason. But what the E/ucien version of saving Vassa lacks is thematic resolution. Character arc and growth. L/cien's love interest being the foil to his passivity. Forcing Elain into the saving Vassa storyline makes it less of an emotional growth arc for all characters involved.

So no, I don't think Elain is right for L/cien, and I don't think L/cien thinks she is either. He is going to have to step up and fight for his woman. He has to face ghosts haunting him, and the fact that he didn't protect the woman he loves in the past. He is showing no protective, proactive behavior towards Elain. He *is* showing protective, proactive behavior with Vassa.

Azriel is not showing the ability to find peace and rest and breaks from work and training with G/wyn. He *is* showing the ability to find peace and rest and breaks from training with Elain. He is not showing an ability to let his hands touch someone's skin and work through the traumatic feelings that can bring up with G/wyn. He *is* experiencing that with Elain.

Obviously Elain's choice is theme, and we all know where that is headed. But it IS worthwhile to (occasionally 😝) pay attention to the men and their deeper traumas, threads and themes, and look at where the work of storytelling is already healing those things as opposed to putting the emotional labor on the women of the story to magically fix their men in their future books.

Phew, this wound up being a lot longer than I intended for it to be! I also agree that there are a lot of women projecting an incredible amount of internalized misogyny and frankly the least woman first takes I have ever seen in this fandom. It's disheartening and bizarre, especially when there is so much fantasy written by men where women solely exist to get r/aped or fill the needs of men. We should be celebrating stories written by women and for women, and appreciate authors who push against the societal norms of the roles women play in fantasy books and in real life.

Speaking of kori (also hey I had an mc called cori that's cool!) when do her and cove get together? Is it in the step 2 epilogue with the confession or during the charity confession?

Also unrelated to Kori but what do you mind going more into depth on your thoughts for both Derek and Baxter dlcs? I love discussions around their dlcs I wish people would genuinely talk more about itz going into depth into the themes of the dlcs and how they affect Derek and Baxter as characters, but then again I'm someone who loves analyzing the media they consume so djdkdkjd. General discussions about these things drive me crazy (I think is worth mentioning that I'm autistic so djdkdk)

So fun fact! With how i played the the dlcs over all me and my friend Lo (@/oiulse) would choose which boy to play the dlc and stream it on call, so Lo picked Baxter and i took Derek, it was really funny cause casual constantly played in our heads during the Baxter dlc (bless lo btw for gifting me both dlcs labyu oomf 🫰)

With how i feel with BOTH dlcs

When i played the first moment from dereks dlc my voice started like acting up from how long THAT specific moment was, maybe its just me but the first moment in particular felt really long, I get it though its the first time ur meeting the suarez family and in no way did i NOT enjoy it, but there were indeed moments where im like DAMN ITS STILL NOT OVER cause of how tired my voice was getting LMFAO, all the other moments were rlly fun my favorite one from the dlc was where u hang out with liz on daddy day and there was an option to gift a card to cliff 🥹, his step 4 was also a bunch of fun i loved the family bonding get to do with the suarez brothers (u can just tell that i love family aus) and getting to hang out with derek made me love him more as a chr, HIS STEP 4 VOICE IS STILL A JUMPSCARE TO ME FROM HOW DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT IT IS (no hate to the va btw) STILL VERY FUNNY THOUGH HAHAHA, i made it so that Derek, kori and cove get to be neighbors before the both of them get married so now they hang out LOTS

With THE Baxter FUCKING Alexander Ward

I heard from another friend that the baxter's dlc was gonna be angsty and i was like oh hell fuckin yeah i love angst! AND THERE CERTAINLY WAS ANGST ILL TELL U THAT MUCH, since i was watching lo play through the Baxter dlc i will admit there were a few times where i spaced out cause ANOTHER fun fact, we played the dlcs like really late on my timezone so i was either drawing while Lo was playing or i was in the brink of conking the fuck out, i was able to know what was going on overall i think the ONLY moment i like fully spaced out on was when the mc and baxter were like out drinking or smth and there was this entire thing with the bartender and the singer, that specific scene in particular i was fully focusing on smth else and it wasnt till later that when i played the baxter dlc for myself that i knew what was finally going on, since me and lo have our castaways au to think abt while playing these dlcs we were building aus upon aus of what lo's mc would do when meeting with baxter again after 5 years its fun lo has never been the same since and neither have i, the angst was good soup and i can see why baxter's dlc was more expensive than derek's LMFAO

But ironically enough the dlc that made me cry was DEREKS DLC,,, that moment on the step 4 epilogue with the brothers having a heart to heart is going to be MY ROMAN EMPIRE, I FUCKING LOVE FAMILIES BRO GAUGHHHH

Anyways sorry that was unnecessarily long i could have organized my thoughts more but i dont have the patience for that so i hope u dont mind that all my thoughts and feelings were all over the place hahaha

In conclusion the dlcs was a nice content buffet 👍

Rebels Rewatch: "Visions And Voices"

Maul returns to be a menace and freak both me and Ezra out.

Obligatory "I've already done a live reaction version of this episode" link.

From the very beginning, with just the washed out dingy lighting and the whooshing wind sound effect, this episode already feels unsettling. The atmospheric touches here with the storm and lightning and the camera movement and shot choice once things start happening evoke a horror movie.

The way they have Hera's voice fading out and going watery every time Maul calls to Ezra, the way Ezra keeps squinting and blinking and the tiny headshake he gives like he's trying to shake off some fatigue or jerk himself alert, make himself stop seeing things...

He looks so frightened. :(

COURSE I DON'T BLAME HIM WITH THE APPARITION OF MAUL LOOKING LIKE THIS.

Kanan and Zeb both trying to shake him awake after he faints. <3

I mentioned in my original liveblog but this episode gives me major Teen Titans 2003 "Haunted" vibes, with the plotline about a character being menaced by an imaginary villain only they can see. Rebels ultimately diverged from that parallel but my mental "If I had a nickel for every time" associations linger.

Something I loved about this episode was just how present everyone was for Ezra, how worried and concerned they were over him. Like here, all the members of the crew, even Chopper, are crowded in Kanan's room waiting for him to wake up.

Subtle animation appreciation moment: How Ezra touches the back of his neck like he's trying to rub out some stiffness or ache.

Oh hang on, did I just stumble across another Kanera-Sabezra mirror?

I DID! :D

Getting a little ahead of myself though, gotta appreciate this moment here with Ezra's fond little smile as Sabine bullies AP-5 about the munitions they're taking.

Also Sabine's "Can you believe this guy?" look lol.

Sabine immediately knows to send Chopper for Kanan. (Oh look, the two of them being the Most Important People in Ezra's life again. :D)

Sabine is very worried and alarmed this whole scene. She knows this isn't like him and oh ouch there are those Teen Titans "Haunted" feels come back to stab me again.

It's not actually clear what Maul was doing with this whole making-Ezra-see-him-everywhere trick--and you know it was deliberate, Ezra wasn't getting anything useful out of his end of the mind bond--but honestly the visions going unexplained are effectively creepy and unsettling enough. Personally I think it was one part to scare Ezra, make him doubt himself and his own mind, make him and everyone else think he was going crazy, and one part to manipulate him into doing something horrible he'd regret so that the Rebels would cast him out and drive him to Maul.

Hera understandably takes Ezra off the mission in light of events and heads it up herself. There's very soft worried mom energy radiating off her in this scene.

I'm kind of amazed Kanan and Sabine putting a tracker on Ezra without telling him didn't get any rancid takes complaining about how ~cLeArLy tOxIc~ it was. Maybe people actually remembered the part of Ezra's characterization where he tends to impulsively go off half-cocked to save people and figured, "Oh, Kanan's taking some obvious precautions in case he does that." Or maybe they decided given two previous kidnapping attempts Kanan was allowed a little paranoia over his kid.

Aaaaaaand this is the first we've heard Ezra's theme in a while.

(Note: Sabine has already painted one of Ezra's new Scout Trooper helmets, which he decides to wear to see Bendu. Even though the last time they rode the speeder into the Bendu's hollow he didn't bother wearing a helmet at all. Upgraded your comfort item/security blanket metaphor there, Ezra, eh?)

Full on horror strings here as we pan up to Maul just chilling like a creeper at the top of the hollow.

The way Ezra almost steps between Maul and Kanan. <3

Something I loved this episode was Ezra consistently rejecting Maul's attempts to touch him, smacking or shoving his hand off his shoulder, deliberately stepping away and keeping a distance.

Since a straightforward request was denied, Maul resorts to blackmail, threatening to broadcast the location of the base to the Empire and oof, Ezra's face.

Maul then dangles the "key to defeating the Sith" carrot in front of them, which activates Ezra's Hero Complex and hyper-responsibility and is what makes him agree to go. See, Maul is his responsibility, it's his fault Maul is even after them in the first place, so Ezra feels a sense of obligation to take care of him as a personal problem.

Love how Kanan says Phoenix Squadron will just wholecloth pack up and move to a new base in order to keep Ezra safe. I don't think it works like that Kanan, lol, but the spirit is appreciated.

Ezra's awfully confident that Maul won't hurt him and, ngl, that is not a risk I would have taken. But Kanan decides to trust Ezra and so the snippet of Ezra's theme that's been playing (marking his gesture of self-sacrifice) gives way to the same cue that played when Vader was descending on top of the TIE Advanced in "Twilight of the Apprentice", kind of an auditory callback to Malachor and the start of this whole arc.

Sabine's already getting the Phantom II prepped. <3

Dathomir looks appropriately hellish. Twisted gnarled trees, barren rocks, broken architecture, drenched in deep red with fog obscuring the horizon.

It's subtle at first and grows more obvious as the episode carries on but Maul is a little bit, ah... bipolar in his actions and displays of emotion here. He oscillates between speaking calmly, growling in frustration, outright snapping at Ezra sometimes, cackling to himself randomly, and of course dropping his voice down into that soft, vulnerable cadence that's his go-to whenever he wants to garner and play to Ezra's sympathies. Ezra takes his erratic behavior in stride, for the most part, doesn't flinch or comment on Maul's mood swings.

Really do love the environment work Rebels does. <3

Ezra flippantly dismissing Maul's murder hoard as "junk" lol.

"Fun" easter egg to note: The scrawled Mand'oa on the wall spells KENOBI.

Aaaaaaand our introduction of the plot device that is the darksaber, displayed prominently under a cubist painting of Satine, whose theme plays as Ezra examines the darksaber. This reference is pure fanservice for TCW fans. It basically means nothing to me emotionally, I was never a fan of Satine or her romance with Obi-Wan, so mostly I just feel offended and creeped out on her behalf that a painting of her got hauled to Maul's murder cave and defaced.

(Interesting to note that the slashes of... paint?... blood?... stuff crosses out Satine's eyes and cuts her throat. Is Maul reveling in his murder of her, trying to relive it by destroying her image? Did he stub out her eyes to stop her from "staring" at him? Who knows.)

Okay I lied, Ezra flinches precisely once, right after Maul yells at him not to touch the darksaber.

I like to think it was possibly calling out to him, the kyber crystal inside a natural siren song to Force wielders, and that's how Ezra knows it's some kind of lightsaber and not just a weird stick.

Love the drums in this music cue. It's got some exotic-sounding eastern instruments in it too, I think I might hear a bit of didgeridoo?

Subtle animation appreciation moment: How Ezra screws up his face in preparation to down the potion, it obviously doesn't smell or taste very good lol.

The music turns frantic and rushing when we cut the Sabine and Kanan landing out, like it's telling them to hurry. More exotic instruments, some kind of tinny percussion, cymbals maybe?

Right, so this episode was clearly another Halloween special right? Has all the perfect trappings of one lol.

Maul strays into Dangerously Genre Savvy here; he never intended to pay for using the Nightsisters' magick himself and his dialogue to Ezra seems to indicate he didn't intend to sacrifice Ezra to them either. So his plan was either to evade the spirit witches long enough to get away scott free, or he was counting on other members of the Spectres to come after Ezra trying to save him.

Either way, it leads to one of the creepiest scenes in the show.

Subtle animation appreciation moment: The bewildered way Kanan's head jerks around right before the Nightsister spirit possesses him, like he can tell that something freaky is there but he can't tell what or where.

The unnatural character movement the animators use for Possessed!Kanan and Possessed!Sabine is really good; they're limp like puppets for a bit before the spirits take full control, and even afterwards move in jerky, inhuman motions.

And thus a half-dozens angst!fics were written lol. (And still not nearly enough.)

Ngl, Maul technically does show Ezra how to save his friends buuuuut he gets no points for that since he clearly thought Ezra would just write them off and come with him.

I'm still amazed he didn't just kidnap him right there. Kenobi obsession too strong I guess.

Other people have already pointed out the irony of Maul screaming at Ezra to forget the past and his attachments while himself being obsessed with the past and clearly trying to use Ezra as a Replacement Goldfish for Savage but I'll mention that anyway.

You know, the Fridge Horror of this episode is really unsettling. I know at least one fanficcer and @better-call-mau1 have asked the question of how, exactly, does possessing Kanan and Sabine allow the Nightsisters to rebuild their clan? They're either going to use Kanan and Sabine to perform some kind of freaky necromancy ritual, use them to lure other Rebels in (seems like it'd have limited effectiveness, eventually Rebel Command would decide retrieval isn't worth it), or they would rebuild the clan using more... ah... conventional means.

Add that unsettling thought to how possessed Sabine seems to stalk Ezra, specifically, while the possessed Kanan returns to the altar and fkhkhffjhjhgggfgjjjj--

Yeah.

"That doesn't belong to you!" "Then take it from me, Jedi!" Are they talking about the darksaber or Sabine's body?

...Yes.

This music cue is amazing. Possessed Sabine scrabbling on the ground like a feral animal while Ezra just calmly Force Pushes her out of the threshold is excellently staged.

Well that's a heart eyes expression if I ever saw one lol.

Sometimes I like to listen to different language tracks for specific dramatic parts of shows or movies, to see how other actors do it, compare performance notes and kjsahfkajshfkajh one of the Chinese Nightsister-possessed Kanans was one of the most horrifying scary things I've ever heard.

This scene is just heartwrenching. A lot of this episode was spoiled in the trailers so this maybe didn't have as much dramatic impact as it should have had at the time but I still found it pretty gut-punching. A little short, maybe. That's about it.

This is one of Ezra's finer moments, frankly, outsmarting and defeating the Nightsister spirits. You really feel the care he has for Kanan. Love it. <3

From the moment Ezra said that the answer to destroying the Sith was "Obi-Wan Kenobi" I think I knew it was a false flag and what Maul had manipulated him to see. Because, obviously, they key is Luke.

Interesting how Ezra thinks if Obi-Wan doesn't, eventually, fight, that the Sith can't be stopped. He's pinning a lot of hopes on a man who doesn't, ultimately, wind up being the narrative Chosen One who accomplishes that task. Again, more on that later in "Twin Suns".

Ezra seems to pay Sabine a glance as he passes, aww.

*PORTENTS OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT*

This episode is one of my favorites, and the "Haunted" mental connections are only one of the reasons why. It's got great dialogue, creepy suspense, adorable subtle Sabezra moments, furthering of Maul's slow mental degradation and descent into full ruin, and Ezra gets to be amazingly self-sacrificing, brave, and awesome in it. What's not to love?

...And Again Into the Light (Elucien)- This is a fic I cowrote with @crazy-ache. After our joint writing adventure where we wrote Dear Lucien, Dear Elain, we wanted to write together again. I suggested we write a horror romance story because I thought it would be a fun co-writing genre because we could leave each other with both spooky and sexy cliffhangers for the other to pick up. And that is exactly what we did. When we write together, we start with a basic idea and structure and we really "yes, and..." the rest of the process. I really like writing horror. It's one of my favorite genres and this was an opportunity for both me and Ariana to play around in that sandbox. And I think we did a DAMN good job at it. I think it's a pretty unique piece too, which is kind of a theme we've had in the projects that we've co-written. We both were really inspired by the idea of Elain and Lucien being trapped in a haunted house together, and what we ended up creating was a interesting exploration of the mating bond (because duh, it's them) on top of all the haunts and scares that were going on.

Kneel Before Me (Elucien) - I wanted to include this one because it was the first fic that came to mind when I read this question. I love this fic because both the inspo and the premise is kind of unhinged for me. This fic was entirely driven by fandom ship war wank. At the time, the new ship war topic of discourse was whether or not Azriel really could defeat Lucien in a blood duel, and the takes were driving me nuts. So, Kneel Before Me was me channeling my rage into art. The premise is Azriel and Lucien spar on the HoW's roof top and Azriel eggs him on into a real fight that tests the theory of who would actually win in blood duel like circumstances, followed by some hot Elucien smut where I might have went a little crazy writing an excessive paragraph long description of Lucien's dick because all of the bat boy obsessions, wing span jokes, and just generally people forgetting Lucien's existence and that he's HOT. And hey, look. I know when I'm cooking and I fucking COOKED with this fic. Even though I did tag it anti-Azriel because I wanted to be upfront that the fic doesn't depict him in a positive light, I've had a lot of Azriel fans read it and confirm for me that they don't actually think it's anti-Azriel at all and they like the twist I incorporated that made it all make sense and feel in character. Because even if I'm being a little cracky, I can't help but want things to make sense for the characters as they are.

Summer Heat (Elucien + Erixius) - This fic is my big multichapter fic that is now turning into a series with the sequel I'll write once I'm done with Pull Me in Deeper. The inspiration was really simple. One of my falling asleep day dreams included Elucien having some fun and awkward flirty moments in awkward and making out on the beach and I was like, "okay I keep thinking about this so I should write it." It definitely is an example of my first outline way underestimated the story it became. I didn't even initially have a plan to have a significant Eric x OC side story but once I created Alexius it really just became an animal of its own. This story I think is some of my best work in that it really spans the spectrum of my skills - comedy, romance, smut, angst, and generally a decent plot. It's the first time I made an OC. I did some new world building. And from experimenting with those the story blew up into something way bigger. I anticipate Golden Visions, the sequel, to be an even longer story which sort of gives you a perspective on how much I was inspired by both of those processes. At its core, I really wanted Summer Heat to be a romantic comedy. And I think it still has that essence but I'm not sure it can really be called that anymore with some of the angst and fantasy world building I built into it changed things. I also tried to write a slow burn for Elucien (and very much not a slow burn for Erixius) which I think I was successful at by my definition of a slow burn lol.

Hey crazy thought but maybe Kairi wouldn’t seem like such a ‘wasted character’ if this fandom would quit taking everything of narrative and thematic significance about her and assigning it to Riku constantly all the time.

(The evaluation of the ways in which Kairi and Riku are important and vital foils for each other got kind of long so it’s under a read more; to be clear, I love Riku so much, and it makes me super mad to see his narrative also being undermined by this trend, this is not a hate post.)

Kairi and Riku serve opposing but complementary purposes in the narrative. Kairi represents light, but she also represents the stagnation of the light. Many characters who are associated with just light are also associated with stagnation and a resistance to change. Hoder and Eraqus are particularly extreme examples, but Aqua exemplifies this as well. They want a predictable world where things stay as they ‘should’ be and they are threatened by changes to the status quo. Eraqus in particular refuses to change anything about himself for 60 years, only taking on students at the last minute because he’s running out of time. Kairi, like Eraqus and Hoder and Aqua, stands as the bold, sharp light that casts others into shadow.

However, the other side of “resistance to change” means that Kairi represents restoration. She is able to restore Sora in KH1, pull them home in KH2, and hold Sora back from death itself in KH3, because her power is one of restoration. She holds so tightly to their old way of being that she can stop death itself in the interest of not changing too drastically. But she is unable to move forward on her own, because she fears change too much. She wants to chase after the boys when they keep leaving her behind…but she isn’t able to keep up, because what she actually wants is for them not to run at all.

She wants to go home, and restore their previous status quo. This desire is consistent in her for the entire series; this is also why she is unable to let go of her childhood crush for Sora, even though he’s obviously not the person she wants him to be anymore. For Sora, Kairi is the rock, she is the home that will always be there, he feels that she is the secure dock he can always return to after the storm. He relies on her not changing, which reinforces her fear of change. Lea is similar, and they can bond in KH3 over both their mutual desires to restore a prior, idealized status quo where their friends were reliably there and not at risk of disappearing on them or running away from them or changing.

Riku on the other hand embodies transformation. He represents change to the status quo, growth and development and a new way to be. Too much change is as much of a problem as too little; Kairi in KH1 sees Riku wants change, and it scares her, and he does in fact go too far. At the same time, she’s the catalyst for Riku’s desire to change their circumstances. Kairi’s arrival at the islands in the meteor shower incites Riku to dream of going to the outside world. This too is a tension that creates an anxiety in Kairi - in a way, she can see herself as to blame for Riku’s desire to change. But Riku was always going to change, because that’s who he is. He is radical change, the change that cuts away restrictive dogma so that the world can advance. Riku drives Sora to also want to grow and change, to excel and challenge himself. Sora wants to be like Riku, whose strength and internal drive he admires.

Ultimately Kairi and Riku are in BALANCE with each other. Ironically, while Kairi is themed as ‘the sea,’ her narrative purpose is to be steady as the earth. Riku’s name is ‘the earth,’ but he is changing and dangerous as the sea. They are one another’s reflections in the narrative. Kairi’s arc is about learning to let go and move forward, even though it scares her. Riku’s entire arc is about finding balance, not throwing away the comfort of the past, that inoculates him from falling too far the way Baldr and Xehanort do. Riku can drive Kairi to join them by giving her a Keyblade too. Kairi can pull Riku back from fleeing from them by seeing him even under Ansem’s face. He is able to be in contrast with Kairi in a healthy way, in a way that honors her fears while also refusing stagnation. They have to work TOGETHER to find Sora, because they are one another’s narrative and thematic opposites. Kairi is too stagnant on her own, and Riku too volatile. Sora is the healthy middle between them, the center-point that can bind the light and the dark TOGETHER for one purpose.

Kairi is narratively and thematically important to Kingdom Hearts. She represents something, and trying to take the things that reinforce her narrative importance to the story (her representation of the light, her narrative purpose of ‘disruption’ in her arrival via the meteor shower, her position as the one who grounds Sora in opposition to Riku’s position as the one who drives Sora to push himself and achieve more) not only undermines her story, it undermines Riku’s.

In ASBR there's a fight between Yukako and Bucciarati, in which Yukako is aware of the inner workings of Passione, and even Bucciarati is surprised at how she knows. And that made me think "Oh Yukako's definitely part of the mafia" so now I have a Yukako joins the Bucci gang au. Basically after Part 4 Yukako's family moves to Italy and she and Koichi have a long-distance relationship as she keeps him from finding out she just joined a mafia because Koichi would just. Instantly blue screen at that fact. Also because Giorno steals Koichi's bag Yukako finds out and destroys him. As a treat <3 I have a whole fic about this if you're interested in it, plus art of Yukako in the Part 5 style I made.

I'd love to read the fic if you'd like to share, but also I brought this up to an irl friend of mine, he thought it was hilarious, and I hope you don't mind if I ramble to you about some of the Thoughts we came up with for our own spin on the idea-

(also I'm writing this in the "universe" of my Cinderella Rewrite, just so I feel more comfortable with yukakoi just a heads up thanks okay bye)

so sort of a headcanon for me to start things off, but Yukako's parents are both very wealthy but also very VERY absent, and once she hit middle school they stopped hiring babysitters to watch her so she was more or less on her own aside from a handful of incredibly scant visits/phone calls. She never knew exactly where their wealth came from but it wasn't really like she could ask so

but then fast forward to the end of her first year of high school and her parents suddenly drop the bomb that they're moving for "business" reasons and she's going to live in Italy. Naturally she's completely heartbroken because she has a life here. Friends and a boyfriend and people she'd honestly call family, and now her parents are making her leave it all behind without so much as an explanation

it's..... definitely rough, but made a bit easier by how Koichi swears he'll do everything he can to stay in contact. They have calls at minimum four times a week, send each other packages all the time, and just do what they can because they genuinely want this relationship to work out

as for Yukako's decent into Passione Things and joining the Bucci Gang...... I'll admit, I'm not super sure how exactly at the moment. I want to keep it with the theme of how Bucciarati helps her out in some way, and I do have the mental image that she didn't spend a lot of time at home because the house was way too big and empty and it was honestly driving her crazy. He probably saved/helped her somehow and Yukako, who's been honestly starved of any kind of Positive Adult Attention since Morioh, just decides "welp, guess I'll die for him"

I think it would be funny if she didn't actually join the gang at first, she just kinda.... sneakily helps him out from a distance. She knows Stand Magnetism would force her to meet some Stand Users eventually, so at least this way she's doing it on her own terms. Of course she's eventually caught, but she does impress them with her knowledge on Stands and ability to use hers, so New Teammate Obtained

Yukako definitly gives them a different perspective on Stands. She's pretty cagey about the specific details of where she moved from, but they do know it has a pretty big Stand community and she's been in a fair amount of fights. They also know she has a boyfriend whom she loves greatly and if anything happens to him Someone Was Definitly Going To Die

I can see Yukako and Fugo are both Besties and Worsties, bonding over being Rich Kids With Shitty Parents and also the only ones who posses a whole Two(2) braincells all for themselves, but they also have two of the worst tempers and when they fight it's bad. She also manages to get on Abbacchio's Not Bad side somehow and the two like to vibe silently together like a pair of cats

and I had. Such a funy sorta angst idea for a way for canon to go (and everyone lives because Fuck Canon <3)

so like. What if Koichi took the mission because it would be an excuse to visit Yukako. And the trip was supposed to be that week.

so ontop of the general stress of everything, Yukako is At Her Fucking Limit right now because she's supposed to be hanging out with her boyfriend for the first time in nearly 2 years, not going on the Worst Roadtrip Ever, she didn't even get a chance to tell him where she was going because this trip came out of nowhere-

and then by the time everything is over and Yukako gets back to Naples (still a little bit banged up from the last fight) it's unfortunately Koichi's last day here

were Diavolo not stuck in that death loop she would've ripped him to pieces with her bare hands

but then for a bit of fluff, a few months later thanks to the whole "now controlling the entire Italian underground which is a rather lucrative career" they're able to invite Koichi back so the two can hang out together for realsies this time

BUT in true Koichi fashion (for some crack), he accidentally gets ropped into Stand shenanigans and kidnapped again leading to a massive goose chase around the city

Derek Venturi is 1989 by Taylor Swift: a sleep deprived essay.

To start: Derek appears to be shallow, fun, kinda ditzy and most importantly, catty. We know Derek's a petty asshole, which is part of Taylor's image during 1989 era. He's also a playboy/cad/whatever word you'd like to use to describe him. Taylor's image at the time was as this serial dater who's obsessed with men. We all know that they both didn't have many serious relationships at this time (honestly, their dating amount wasn't even much more than normal) but they want them.

The 1989 album focuses very strongly on themes of passion and perception. The truth can be whatever you want it to be and it can be twisted to be whatever you want it to seem. That's a motto that, as "king" of SJST High, Derek can live by. He also likes to twist stories to fit his own view of what happened, regardless of the truth. Truth and perception all depends on who you are and what angle you're looking at it from. Passion can kill. Perception is keeping it so that the death is covered up.

One of the core components of Derek's character is that he's passionate. He doesn't think before he does things, he lives his life based solely on his passions, and most importantly, he thinks with his heart, not his mind. Whatever logic Derek possesses (because to say he has none would be incorrect) is hidden away because he doesn't want to be logical. He wants to be able to exist solely on vibes, not on emotions (which are GROSS) or the stupid rules people put on him.

Track One: Welcome To New York

"Like any true love, it drives you crazy."

We all know Casey's the one with the real connection to New York, but this is not a song specifically about New York City. It's about going to someplace where you feel safe, about a home that's loud and vibrant and loving. For Derek, that's the McTuri house. It's insane and everything he wants, really. There's never a boring moment with Derek around, but especially in that house. It's where he grew up, where the marks on the wall are with his height and the memory of Marti tackling him.

Track Two: Blank Space

"Cherry lips, crystal skies/I could show you incredible things/Stolen kisses, pretty lies."

Derek's perception within London is someone who's a serial dater. He doesn't take any of it seriously. The song was written to satirize that experience, to make it seem realer than it actually is. From what we see, all the man does is go on a few dates, get two serious girlfriends in the entire show. This is a man who knows what his own love life is, that it's going to be dramatic and heartbreaking but he genuinely loves and loves hard. He can't help being popular and beloved and the victim of rumors.

Track Three: Style

"Fade into view, oh/It's been a while since I have even heard from you."

This is exactly how Derek feels about Abby. I'm aware Style is about a romantic relationship, but the general theme of an on/off relationship works for his bond with Abby. She shows up sometimes, but she's with other people so often, prioritizing them, that he feels sort of forgotten until she comes into view.

Track Four: Out Of The Woods

"Two paper airplanes flying, flying."

The anxiety present in this track and how terrifying everything is works very well for Derek's fear of Casey. He doesn't fear her, of course (because she's lame and he's cool), but he fears the way that she can control him. Being out of the woods would be being free from Casey and her stupid hold on his stupid heart. Hence why he runs away to Paris.

Track Five: All You Had To Do Was Stay

"Why'd you have to go and lock me out when I let you in?"

Derek's completely aware of how all of this sucks, and the fact that he left, but he maintains that Casey left first. This is all her fucking fault, because she's the one that was in his fucking jersey, which made him run. She was going to lock him out, so it made sense to run first. He was protecting his stupid, foolish heart.

Track Six: Shake It Off

"Got nothin' in my brain/That's what people say."

Some people have the fucking audacity to accuse Derek of being a man whore. Which, yeah, it's kinda cool, but! Derek's not a whore, he dates a normal amount of girls, and it's no one's business! He's smart and has knowledge, even if no one sees it. He can't help that girls like him, so he just shakes off the criticisms from everyone, even George.

Track Seven: I Wish You Would

"You're thinkin' now that I hate you now 'cause you still don't know what I never said."

Why on earth did someone hate Derek enough to make him want Casey so much he's in physical pain over it? She's with Peter because she's a fucking coward and now he has to deal with it, because Derek didn't take his stupid shot and tell stupid Casey that he likes her stupid self.

Track Eight: Bad Blood

"Still got scars on my back from your knife."

Derek is aware that he sounds insane, but fucking hell, the fact that Sam likes Casey is the world's biggest betrayal. He can't believe this happened, because this is cruel. This is the worst thing to ever happen and it's totally not because he has some weird feelings crawling up in his throat and feeling like Sam is stealing his Casey.

Track Nine: Wildest Dreams

"Tangled up with you all night, burnin' it down."

So what if Casey has a new boyfriend? It doesn't matter. Even if the new boyfriend is Peter, Derek is going to ignore that because he's still haunted by that fucking kiss, and he's going to be haunted forever.

Track Ten: How You Get The Girl

"And that's how it works/That's how you get the girl."

There is no true way to say how absolutely absurd Derek thinks the fact that guys say it's hard to get a girl is. He thinks the entire thing is bullshit. And, look, it's not hard to make a woman swoon! It's time to teach a course. Not to Peter, but to the children, who need so much help getting dates.

Track Eleven: This Love

"These hands had to let it go free and/This love came back to me."

Everything is fucking tragic, because he lost touch with Casey for years, but now she's there. They're together, again, and everything might actually be okay.

Track Twelve: I Know Places

"Just grab my hand and don't ever drop it, my love."

Hiding is easy. There are so many corners and places where Derek can hide, places where Derek can just exist with Casey and her insane ass without anyone watching. Their life was always on view, everyone watching, but now everything can be on their terms.

Track Thirteen: Clean

"I screamed so loud, but no one heard a thing."

Casey's a fucking addiction, one Derek can't be clean from, but there's a fucking ocean keeping them apart. And her goddamn husband. Still, he fucking hates this. Everyone thinks that he's over her, but he's screaming in every fucking song that he's not.

Track Fourteen: Wonderland

"Life was never worse, but never better."

They were toxic in Queens. It was a weird flirtationship that was never going to be healthy when they were in that in between stage, so he left Wonderland. And fuck, being lost in it was glorious.

Track Fifteen: You Are In Love

"Time moved too fast, you play it back."

It's so stupid to feel so much for her after all these years, but Derek cannot escape Casey's hold on him. He's so stupidly in love with her, his best friend.

Track Sixteen: New Romantics

"The rumors are terrible and cruel, but most of them are true."

A little bit of a slut era for Derek in his early twenties is what he needs, to cope with Casey getting married. He hooks up randomly for a year, gets a girlfriend, she gets pregnant, and he's not a new romantic anymore, but he's building castles out of bricks.

Track Seventeen: "Slut!"

"Half awake, takin' your chances."

Everything makes sense when he's with Casey, even if he's called a slut. She's the one, goddammit, and Derek's okay with it. All he wants is her, so he'll take the shitty rumors and occasional subtweets from Peter.

Track Eighteen: Say Don't Go

"And I'm yours, but you're not mine."

Just because Derek left, that doesn't mean he's okay! He's mad, selfishly, in a self-destructive sense. If she had just called and asked Derek to stay, he would've flown back. But she didn't, because she doesn't love him, and he just has to accept that.

Track Nineteen: Now That We Don't Talk

"Truth is, I can't pretend it's/Platonic, it's just ended."

Things have changed, and even though they talk, it's different. Everything is different. Rumors are half of how he knows her now, from the kids and Simon likes to share his observations, but Derek's trying to understand how everything works in this relationship now. Nothing is sensical. What the fuck are they?!

Track Twenty: Suburban Legends

"You were so magnetic, it was almost obnoxious."

Peter is cheating, and he's doing it right in front of Derek, who wants to tell Casey, but he can't. He just can't do this when he doesn't have proof, it's just suspicions, but god, they'd be a legendary couple. Derek would never hurt her like this. They would be suburban legends.

Track Twenty One: Is It Over Now?

"At least I had the decency/To keep my nights out of sight."

It's been years, and Derek's living with Casey now, but things aren't over. He doesn't know if they'll ever be. Will they ever get over each other? Probably not. But Jesus, he wants to. Kind of. He also wants to shove her against a wall because the longing is giving him way too many soft thoughts. She's with Peter, allegedly in love, and this is cruel because he's forced to know that every time he sees her stupid ring.

Damian was driving you crazy. And not the good kind of crazy. You were regretting staying at Titan Tower instead of going Christmas shopping with your friends.

You had assumed they would need the bonding moment on their own. They would spend Christmas at the tower while you would do so at home, it was only fair.

And he granted you such wishes, picking up his pace, kissing you, gripping your thighs just the way you liked it even though he had no way to know.

Your nails dug into his back as you attempted to have him closer. It was impossible to do so, yet you had to give it a try.

“You’re gonna make me come,” you announced.

As though your words had been a demand for him to make you come already, he pressed his fingers on your clit and started rubbing as he thrust inside you.

Tired and spent, you felt his weight fall on top of your front. Damian kissed the side of your neck as he rested his head on your shoulder, breathing heavily.

Eventually, you softly pushed him off you and begrudgingly left the bed in direction to the bathroom.

You were washing your legs with the showerhead when Damian entered the bathroom. “There are clean towels in the second drawer if you also want to wash yourself,” you informed him.

He opened said drawer as you shut the water. He didn’t make any move for a moment, but he took a clean towel nonetheless.

You patted your skin dry, moving out of his way so he could use the shower.

“You had condoms here,” he observed.

“Well, I didn’t know which type of condom you preferred...”

“Oh, are those somebody else’s preferred ones?”

You slipped a clean pair of panties on. He watched you. “Please tell me you’re not actually angry because of this.”

“Your shower gel smells nice,” he opted for saying.

You hummed. “It’s new. I got tired of the blue one.”

Giving him privacy, you exited the bathroom and decided to check the mattress in case you needed to change the bedding.

Back in your bedroom, Damian silently put his boxers back on. He didn’t bother with his pants nor his shirt.

“I’m not angry,” he finally stopped avoiding the subject.

You tried not to frown. “You’re pouting.”

His expression turned blank. “I don’t pout.”

“Whatever helps you sleep at night.”

“Come to the Christmas party with me.”

“I’ll be at the party either way.”

“Yes,” he gritted before inhaling deeply. “But I want you to be with me. As my date.”

“What would the difference be?” You didn’t understand why it was such a big deal. “We know everybody already.”

“For one, it would help me sleep at night.” He took you by the face with one hand, looking straight into your eyes. “Yes or no?”

“Yes.” Your voice sounded weird due to the pressure of his fingers on your cheeks

Damian gave you a sweet kiss, loosening his grip on your face to cup your cheek. You softly placed your hand on the back of his head, giving him another kiss. And another, and another, until you lost count.

Bad and Crazy – Episode 07 recap/musings

[Imagine doing mundane things to the tune of the opening theme to make them cooler]

As always, a few steps back from where we left off: In the back of the increasingly smoke-filled truck, Su Yeol (and K) tries kicking his way out. Hui Gyeom wakes to the commotion and the pair kick in tandem until, finally, the exterior lock dislodges, sending the doors flying open – with Su Yeol and Hui Gyeom each hanging to one side as the truck speeds down the highway.

The driver catches sight of this and stops – only for Su Yeol/K and Hui Gyeom to nab him and lock him up in the back – but not before getting him to give up his destination.

Meanwhile, Gye Sik is on the phone with Boss Yong, who confirms they've been tailing him and that they killed Hyeok Jin [the kid who ODed at the last ep]. Yong expects a "short and sweet" word of thanks, but Gye Sik doesn't rate this as a good show of trust.

Also meanwhile, a group of unwashed men (presumably the junkyard residents given the assortment of trash can fires) are interrupted in their grave-digging by Hui Gyeom and Su Yeol, who's driving the truck a little too gleefully into the group. As both Hui Gyeom and K cheer him on, he starts sheep-herding some of the men into the open grave, but is stopped by Gyeong Tae and Jae Seon, who deadpans, "No. This is not good." Pfft.

The quartet tries to rest via a double date at Yeol Yeol Pizza, where Gyeong Tae has to calm Jae Seon from losing his shit at Su Yeol's stupidity at acting alone. As he should. Gyeong Tae asks what their next move in the investigation should be, and Hui Gyeom tells the group what she found about Andrei – that he's probably the one distributing the Eyes Candy drug, and that he's likely in league with Gye Sik.

But they can't be sure, so Su Yeol and Hui Gyeom head over to visit the one person who could confirm it: the indestructible Il Su, who I'm pretty sure is part-cat with his seemingly infinitesimal lives. He and Su Yeol trade snark and bravado:

Il Su: (laughs) Look at you acting all tough. I know you came here to beg me to rat out Captain Kim.

Su Yeol: (mocking) To "beg" you? Are you insane? Hey - even if you rat him out now, who'd believe you? Who would believe a dirtbag like you? Kim Gye Sik just used you to clean up his mess, you fool.

This enrages Il Su, and Hui Gyeom good-cops it by showing him a photo and telling him to name anyone linked with manufacturing The Eye. Su Yeol adds that his cooperation could serve as revenge against Gye Sik. It's enough, and he points directly at Andrei...

...Who's driving Boss Yong, her nose deep in her English book. They debate Gye Sik's trustworthiness, with Andrei noting that he murdered his own colleagues. Yong says they never needed to trust him – just that he is/was useful.

Sometime the next day, Jae Seon visits a cultural centre [depicted in the photos that Hui Gyeom found previously], and asks about Andrei – but there's nothing. Gyeong Tae relays this over the phone to Hui Gyeom, who says they got tipped off that he was spotted near Yeonbu-dong [an area of Gangnam]. She adds that they found out that the late Assemblyman offloaded a courier company belonging to his wife [i.e., the "delivery service" Yong had asked for] before he kicked it, and asks Su Yeol to look into it. [Was that a three-way conference call?]

K's singing in the car with Su Yeol ("to cheer you on"), but Su Yeol is irked by this:

Su Yeol: You? Cheer me on? (deadpan) Funny.

K: OK. I'll be honest. I get to see Hui Gyeom every day.

Su Yeol: (sighs) Unbelievable... Don't you see that I'm having such a hard time? Shouldn't you have bonded with me more by now? You heartless jerk. (grumbling) All you do is talk about Hui Gyeom...!

(pause)

K: Hey, Su Yeol. Are you jealous now?

Su Yeol: (incredulous) What? "Jealous"? (scoffs) Hey, I don't have time to be jealous. I'm—!

K interrupts to tell Su Yeol that they just drove past Andrei, to which Su Yeol does Suprised Pikachu Face and stops... To which K laughs at him. K: "You believed that?" Ha.

Given that they're hogging up multiple lanes of the motorway, a white truck (always) almost fender-benders them, but Su Yeol clocks the driver as one of Andrei's cronies, and gives chase. They follow him to a courier depot, where Su Yeol/K's instinct is, of course, to immediately hide in a truck.

Su Yeol: Again? Are you insane?

K: Come on. It's OK. It's a different truck.

Pfft. Su Yeol's not entirely convinced, but the dude's coming their way, so in they pop. But someone starts loading in more boxes, and their pair are now sardined, with K wedged behind Su Yeol in a spooning sort of fashion. Cue a delightful string of double-entendres around butts, things not "going in", and knowingly timed grunts.

The vehicle starts moving, and Su Yeol cannot believe he's trapped in a truck - again. [I can; he's like a moth to a lightbulb, only the lightbulb is just him being a fucking idiot.]

Elsewhere, Hui Gyeom drops by the Eyes Candy store, an actual sweet shop/café that's obviously being used a front. She questions the store clerk, who tells her their CCTV is broken and that he doesn't recognise Andrei. A spooky camera pan/tilt shift shows us that Yong is sitting at one of the tables, her eye [get it] on Hui Gyeom.

Back in the Truck of Love, you can actually hear the sweat dripping. Su Yeol begs K to move but it appears that their bodily fluids have welded them together in some sort of spectacular innuendo. As you do, K's solution is to start taking off his pants, but an increasingly horrified Su Yeol asks him why he's not just taking off his shirt, to which K counters by screaming how hot he is [I can't.]

Su Yeol: You crazy idiot!

K: I'm boiling right now, you jerk!

Su Yeol: Idiot! If you take that off in this situation right now, it'll look so weird!

We cut strategically to moments later; K now has his shirt off, and the two look even more exhausted. We do not see anything below upper waist-level. K is dying of thirst [snort] and, despite Su Yeol's pleas about his at-capacity bladder, downs an entire 2-litre bottle of water, and then Su Yeol...refills it.

As the driver makes a stop, K discovers small baggies of The Eye. Bingo!

Later that night, the cops raid the depot. Andrei smashes a hard-drive and escapes in the chaos, but Jae Seon spots him and pursues. Andrei finishes a call and swallows his SIM card, and he and Jae Seon fight. The two trade punches, but Andrei stabs Jae Seon in the side. Su Yeol intervenes and is about to punch Andrei, but the latter smiles, drops his knife and holds out his wrists to be cuffed.

At the station's interrogation room, Su Yeol questions Andrei, calling bullshit on his feigned inability to understand Korean. He susses out to Andrei's face that there's at least one person who outranks him. But then Andrei goes into a violent withdrawal, and starts flexing his wrists to cut himself with his handcuffs.

Gye Sik arrives to take Andrei under his jurisdiction (it is Narcotics) - as per order of the Commissioner – but not without protest from Su Yeol, Gyeong Tae and Hui Gyeom. Now alone in the interrogation room, Gye Sik warns Su Yeol that there's no way he can catch him.

Later, Su Yeol keeps watch at a sleeping Jae Seon's hospital bedside. He tells Gyeong Tae that the case against Gye Sik is crumbling.

Meanwhile, Gye Sik receives a package at his desk. It's a box of small rock candy – in the same bags used for The Eye. He doesn't look pleased. At dinner, he meets with Yong, who asks after Andrei. Gye Sik tells her she did the right thing in cutting him off, and advises her to lie low. Yong rejects this and blames him for her recent losses. She tells him he can make things right – but only by stealing her drugs back from police seizure.

In the car, Chang Gi worries out loud to Gye Sik.

Chang Gi: Captain. I feel so lost right now. Have we come too far?

Gye Sik: Indeed. We have come too far.

(pause)

Gye Sik: So we must keep going. That way, we can get closer to the exit.

At the hospital, Gyeong Tae tearfully peels an apple. Jae Seon gently pokes fun at him for crying and casually asks Gyeong Tae if it's his first time seeing anyone get stabbed. Ha. He recalls getting similarly teased when he cried over seeing the same thing happen to Su Yeol, but then starts to rile himself up over said teasing and begins lifting water bottles like weights. A fretful Gyeong Tae implores him to get some rest but Jae Seon assures him it's good for his recovery, to which Gyeong Tae threatens to cry and shoves an apple piece into Jae Seon's mouth. In walks Jae Seon's wife, who remarks that the two "look like a couple".

On a water refill run, she bumps into Su Yeol, who tries initially to avoid her because of a promise she made to kill him if Jae Seon ever got hurt. Through mild arguing, it's revealed the two are old high school friends, and that Su Yeol had set her up on a blind date with Jae Seon years ago. Aww. He apologises for putting Jae Seon in danger; she jokes that his "wife" is in there with him (Gyeong Tae, feeding him fruit).

Upon noticing Su Yeol, Jae Seon lays the misery on thick: He's in terrible shape, that even the sight of the apple knife makes the pain worse, and that Su Yeol really hurt his feelings, and could he borrow, like, 30 million won for his rent deposit [25k USD/18k GBP]? Su Yeol apologises that he doesn't have that kind of money.

The two change subject to talk about Gye Sik's case, and Hui Gyeom calls Su Yeol to tell her that she's tailing Gye Sik and Chang Gi – alone. [Girl, no.] But she's already clocked it about the seized drugs. Su Yeol tells her to wait for them.

Gye Sik knocks out the storage facility's guard (who's been briefed/bribed beforehand), and Chang Gi and Gye Sik start bagging the contraband. Hui Gyeom, getting impatient, moves in alone and confronts the two at gunpoint. But Gye Sik isn't phased, and bluffs her to shoot. When she doesn't, Gye Sik puts Chang Gi's own gun to his head and, after a brief stand-off, drives off alone, but not before reminding her that she chose not to stop him.

Su Yeol and Gyeong Tae arrive just in time to engage Gye Sik in a highway chase, but they just as quickly lose him. Gye Sik calls Yong to tell her to meet him in a hurry. The first place he can think of, even surprising to himself, is the same abandoned building at which he killed his colleague Min Su. Su Yeol and Gyeong Tae aren't far behind, and figure out where he's heading.

Gye Sik exchanges money for drugs with Yong's men, who then move, on her order, to kill him. Gye Sik responds by shooting one guy, torching the drugs and speeding off with the money before Su Yeol, Gyeong Tae and backup arrive. Gyeong Tae stays back to arrest everyone while Su Yeol pursues Gye Sik.

The chase takes them to the now-familiar hollowed-out building site of Min Su's death and, after some quick cat-and-mousing, Su Yeol is shot in the chest and falls. [Well, shit.] Gye Sik, from a distance, says Su Yeol should have stayed his old, unbothered, dickhead self, and walks away. But Su Yeol downs him with a running tackle, joking that he already knew to protect himself with a bulletproof vest because he's a "wimp".

The two fight – worryingly close to the edge of one of the platforms –but Su Yeol eventually gets the upper hand. He repeatedly punches Gye Sik's head into the ground but the second Su Yeol steps back, Gye Sik points a gun at him and tries to flee with his bag of cash – only to be shot by Hui Gyeom.

Gye Sik stumbles back and falls off the edge. He's clinging to one handle of the bag, and Su Yeol is desperately trying to use the other handle to pull him back up [Note: It's a very thin cloth duffel bag]. He and Hui Gyeom manage to hold Gye Sik steady, but not before the bag splits open, sending the cash flying. Su Yeol asks him if this was what it was for, but Gye Sik can only futilely snatch at air.

Moments later, Gye Sik is taken into custody, and K manifests. Su Yeol isn't happy.

Su Yeol: Hey. Hey, you! You... Where have you been? I went up there alone, and...

K: I've been here the whole time.

Su Yeol: What?

K: I've been here the whole time.

Su Yeol: Where?

K: Right by your side.

(beat)

K: Ah, look at you, Su Yeol. You can handle these things pretty well on your own now.

At this, Su Yeol's eyes water; K smiles and gives him a shoulder tap. Su Yeol walks towards Hui Gyeom, who collapses against him in tears.

Later, Su Yeol sees Hui Gyeom off at her door. She's about to head in but asks him if he wants to pop inside - for her to look at that head wound, of course. He touches the [minuscule] scratch and follows her in. Heh.

He stops to change her hallway lightbulb and she's quietly impressed that he still remembers where the spares are kept. Inside, Hui Gyeom's place is a glorious mess – clothes on the floor and on the couch, candy wrappers strewn everywhere, piles of dirty dishes and takeaway containers rotting on her kitchen counter. Minutes later, Su Yeol is already mopping, moping about having to clean up when she should just hire professional cleaners. Hui Gyeom: "Stop nagging me." Pfft.

She opens her first-aid box to grab a bandage for his wound [seriously, it's thinner than even her eyebrow], and both of them see the little post-it notes that Su Yeol left for her – cute messages about staying healthy, keeping wounds clean, avoiding getting hurt.

Hui Gyeom: I didn't know you had left these notes.

Su Yeol: You didn't even touch them.

She quickly puts a tiny bandage on his tiny cut and then tells him to go home. As she walks away, he grabs her wrist and they share a look before he gently kisses her.

Su Yeol: (stammering) Don't hit me. That was mutual.

(beat)

Hui Gyeom: I know.

And then a proper kiss this time, as the camera takes a long, lingering shot away.

Elsewhere, Chang Gi is asleep in the interrogation room. Gyeong Tae tells Jae Seon that, after confessing everything, it's probably the first time he's properly slept in a while.

Later (presumably, the next day), Gye Sik and Su Yeol are back where we first met them as a pair: in the interrogation room.

Gye Sik: Ryu Su Yeol. Do you think you and I are that different?

(pause)

Su Yeol: No. But I had to hit the brakes pretty hard recently. So I gave it some thought, since I couldn't go anywhere. And I did realise that I was heading the wrong way. I'm sure you had a few chances to do the same.

Outside, Jae Seon asks Su Yeol if the case is finally over, but Su Yeol says there's still one more person they need to catch. Jae Seon, in what is, like, all of us, starts listing everyone involved out loud just to make sure [insert Charlie Day red threads conspiracy theory board .jpg].

Su Yeol gives his badge and gun to to Bom Pil, citing the many different ways he obstructed the investigation, and asks to undergo the usual disciplinary protocol without a cover-up. Bom Pil is in disbelief: "Are you not yourself? Did you do drugs again"? Ha. On his way out, he sees Gyeong Tae gift Jae Seon a fancy wallet to replace the one he lost at the junkyard. Jae Seon, who cries at this, pretends not to cry at this.

At dinner, Mama Ryu worries about Su Yeol's nighttime "whimpering" and the danger of his job. He promises not to work on scary cases, and offers to run the pizza place with Dong Yeol. She looks like she wants this to be a joke, and asks him when he's moving out. A strange smell interrupts them – food is burning on the stove. Dong Yeol jokes that he has a "bet" running with her about whatever this is, but Su Yeol looks concerned.

At the pizza place, the tap is overflowing and flooding the floor.

Next morning, the family cleans up, though Su Yeol tells Mama Ryu to rest at home. Dong Yeol arrives with bad news: The repairs are going to be expensive (20 million won). The two brothers argue over who's at fault.

Bong Pil walks into his office to find Su Yeol lurking solemly behind the door like a fucking vampire bat. He begs for his job back via the old ways, to which Bong Pil says he already cleaned everything up. Su Yeol's about to leave when Bong Pil tells him he has to visit an agency-designated therapist. Strangely, said therapist is at the Dream Youth Shelter – which K (sitting at Bong Pil's desk, ha), points out is the same place he donated his slush fund to.

Boss Yong runs into the head thug who was present when Gye Sik torched her drugs. She motions him into a lift with her, where he apologises, but it's no use. In the few seconds it takes to move between floors, she's already killed him with a lollipop stick.

Elsewhere, an emergency transport bus careens across deserted highway lanes to a stop, and the doors open to reveal that Andrei has killed literally everyone inside.

Su Yeol arrives at the new therapist's office, where he's greeted by the sound of creepy Western vintage jazz and a video camera. It's probably important to note that the therapist is not unattractive. K peruses the doc's collection of awards and qualifications, while Su Yeol looks visibly uncomfortable with having their session filmed, but the new doc assures him it's part of the treatment and makes small talk... before commenting on Su Yeol's "beautiful eyes". [Erm.]

After an awkward silence, Therapist talks about the case – Su Yeol's drugging, having to watch a man die, etc – all things that were out of his control. Su Yeol tries to deflect it by saying it's all just part of the job, but Therapist pushes: "Then what about now? Is everything under your control?" [So was the flirting just a tactic to admit his lack of control?]

Su Yeol says he's fine, but Therapist asks why he's constantly looking elsewhere (i.e., at K), and immediately asks if he sees anyone else in the room. Uh-oh. Su Yeol laughs it off, but Therapist looks unconvinced. He suggests they stop for now, and talk childhood in their next session. Su Yeol hadn't expected to come back. K looks unhappy with this.

But now we're in a dream sequence: In the never-ending hallway, Su Yeol walks towards a door marked 521. His voiceover reveals his name was originally In Jae Hui. Behind the door, he sees his younger self (around the age we saw in the birthday flashback) being horribly beaten.

Su Yeol [v.o.]: I was beaten up more days than I had food. After my father died, I was adopted right away. Like the day of my father's death, six months prior to his death are nothing but blank memories.

The younger Su Yeol runs out of the room; hard cut to the boy running outside, past tents; back to Su Yeol in the hallway, running after his younger self [continuous shots]

Su Yeol [v.o.]: I don't know why I can't remember those six months. Why did I only lose my memories from those months? I don't know why.

Su Yeol continues to run in the never-ending hallway, but then the POV switches suddenly from him chasing his younger self to something chasing his present self, and then back and forth as both versions are clearly running away from something. Su Yeol clutches his chest in pain and slumps, bent over.

K walks down the hallway to face him. Su Yeol begins: "How did you...?" but it's here when the episode ends. [Writer-nims, you bastards.]

Episode 7 down, and we've pretty much closed Gye Sik's arc. So now what? Onto Yong? Or someone above both her and Andrei?

The mystery around Su Yeol's childhood deepens, but at the same time we're getting drip-fed more information: He doesn't remember the day of his father's death or the six months leading up to it. It's being heavily implied that he either had a part in or feels blame for his father's death, but this could be a misdirect. What about Mama Ryu? Does she know anything? If she did, would she want him to know? And how does K factor into all of this?

Speaking of K, it feels like the beginning of the end for him. For me, he's the central humour of the show, so I guess I feel his absence more. His presence in this episode has been by turns outrageous, absurd, disgusting, playful, and bittersweet. But his appearance in the hallway seemed... nobly threatening. I worry he'll either meet a negative end or be revealed to be one.

Su Yeol is inching towards that redemption. His brief flirtation with actual protocol did make me chuckle [Bong Pil, you bloody enabler], but, ultimately, it seems like this is going to come from him being closer to his expanding support system: Jae Seon and Lucky Charm Gyeong Tae; moving back home with his family; and also reconnecting, on some mutual level, with Hui Gyeom. Because all of these people do actually care about this piece of shit.

As for the kiss, I was worried how it was going to play out as fucking iQiyi posted the entire video of the scene with the title as a spoiler just minutes after it aired [What the fuck, guys?]. But, now that I've seen it in context, it's refreshingly realistic how awkward, tender, and messy it was. This wasn't your standard kdrama dead-fish lip-peck, this was two adults, who once cared deeply for each other, falling back into a moment of intimacy after a night of hell. Yes she was vulnerable, but the way it was shot and blocked (and even the dialogue), I didn't have any misgivings about Hui Gyeom's agency.

The only thing that slightly bothers me is the fact that I've not forgotten that Su Yeol was ready to throw her under the bus a few episodes back.

Speaking of Su Yeol, I'd very much prefer it if his family unit remains intact. They're just too precious.

Stray thoughts:

Dong Yeol needs a better company tagline than "Yeol Yeol Pizza, for the passionate you". Also: I guess I can stop worrying about where he is now.

Jae Seon to Su Yeol when he's berating him for going solo: "All you used to do was take credit for our hard work!" I'm not surprised by this. But why would Jae Seon have stood for that?

Shady people's shady companies always end up belonging to the shady people's wives.

I was not prepared for that thoroughly extra bitch-voice AND head-wag that Su Yeol deployed in the prison visitation room. It was like watching The Muppet Show on Lee Dong Wook's face.

Boss Yong learning English classic-style, with a book. I'm now imagining an AU in which she hunts down the Duolingo owl and lollipops the shit out of him.

K in the truck asking Su Yeol if they should "ask" the truck driver to just let them out is exactly the kind of nonchalant solution a child would come up with.

To make the joke that Su Yeol keeps fucking himself is low-hanging fruit, even for me. But in this list it goes.

Between the sounds of sweat dripping and bottle-peeing, I think we've had enough ASMR/white noise around Su Yeol's body fluids.

K has zero impulse control and I am here for it.

I don't know about you but, if I suddenly chugged 2 litres of water, I'd be weeing every 20 minutes for the rest of the afternoon.

Quite nice of Su Yeol to leave a bottle of his own piss in the truck as a present. /s

Not terribly important, but we now know Andrei's last name as Kang.

Gye Sik silently giving Hui Gyeom a fist bump on the shoulder after taking Andrei: man, you're just a horrible sunbae.

Those candies were actually really cute, though. The little flower stamps? Adorable.

Chang Gi, in the car with Gye Sik, worried about being "trapped in the middle" of a wrong path and not being able to escape – sounds like Su Yeol's hallway dream. As Su Yeol notes to Gye Sik later in the episode, nobody is really that unlike each other in this show.

Su Yeol revealing he got left out when Jae Seon and his wife started seeing each other. Aww.

There's a statue-type thing around the 39-minute mark that legitimately looks like someone in a high-vis coat has fallen over and died. Unless it was a real person, and I'm an idiot. But neither Gyeong Tae nor Su Yeol acknowledged it. So it couldn't have been a person.

Su Yeol the nagging malewife

If it's been two years, those medications have expired.

Given that Hui Gyeom didn't know about the notes in the medicines box and, given the sad tone of said notes, it's likely that this was one of the last things Su Yeol did before leaving her home –after they had already broken up.

For once, it's nice to see a tender wrist-grab rather than the aggressive, dislocation deals I keep seeing in other kdramas.

Gyeong Tae continues killing it, even when questioning – but, unlike Su Yeol, he hasn't seem to have ever lost his sense of self. He's still our precious Cinnamon Bun, but he's doin' a heckin' good job.

Seeing some of bibros and Wincest shippers pretend 15x18 doesn't exist drives me crazy.

Like I get it, it's backlash to Hellers being finale denialists, but it makes no sense to me. My reasons for hating the finale of Supernatural has nothing to do with me being a Destiel shipper. I sit with my fix-its and headcanons and coffee and spite not because I didn't get to see Cas and Dean kiss onscreen. I hate 15x20 because of what they did to Dean. The fact that they killed him in a anticlimactic way when he was finally happy, and when he finally knew that the people around him cared. I hate the finale because of what they did to Sam. He spent the rest of his life grieving his brother, which is co-dependency I might expect from Dean, but not Sam. I hate what they did to Eileen. The fact that she wasn't even in it? Instead replaced by a blurry figure in the distance. I hate the finale because of what they did to Cas. They mentioned his name twice but didn't bother to have him or Misha on the bridge in the end. Didn't bother to explain how he got out of the Empty. I hated that they receeded on 15 years of character development and didn't bother to hold up what is arguably the most important theme the show is founded on, "Family doesn't end in blood". But in the end the only family that mattered were the blood ones. And I get that Sam and Dean's bond matters, I really do. But the show that aired in 2005 is not the same as the one that aired in 2020. No mention of Jody? Claire? Alex? Kaia? Patience? Donna was only mentioned once. What about AU!Charlie and her girlfriend who had mere minutes of screen time? I hate the ending because it doesn't match up timeline-wise. Vampires? There's no mention of them in John's journal, and that's canon. I hate the ending because it did exactly what Becky said was terrible. I hate the ending because we didn't get to see Dean's response to Cas's confession, whether it be positive or not, nor did we see Sam's reaction to being reunited with Eileen. I could go on, but I think I've made my point.

Whereas the only reason for hating 15x18 I can think of is because you don't like Cas. Or you don't like Misha. Or you don't ship Destiel and you wish Cas had kept his mouth shut. All of these a valid opinions you're entitled to have, but it pales in comparison to the reasons why 15x20 just wasn't the Supernatural we know today. I don't think those reasons warrant pretending an episode doesn't exist. (And I realize not all of mine do either, but there's enough of them.) And there are plenty of episodes I hate. Even ones the entire fandom collectively despise, but we don't pretend they don't exist just because we don't like them. Despair actually made sense. It had character growth a progression for both Cas and Dean, and it actually managed to tie up loose ends and have a somewhat interesting plot. But the finale of Supernatural didn't stay true to Supernatural, and everything the show is founded on, instead erasing character growth and managing to be a let down in ways that will affect fans for years to come. And I get that I'm biased because I enjoyed Despair, but pretending it doesn't exist, especially with the amount of effort put into it and the fact that it's Misha's last proper appearance, just doesn't sit right with me.

i don’t think that what ogata feels towards yuusaku can be called guilt, or rather that he feels anything towards yuusaku at all. don’t get me wrong there are definitely complex feelings involved and i do think that what he’s feeling is close enough to guilt but it’s more than that and less than that at the same time.

people go really deep into analysis of biblical themes in gk while clearly having a christian-influenced perspective. gk does have its share of them obviously, though i think most if not all of them are fake deep and hand-picked for the aesthetic. one of the more obvious biblical themes is that yuusaku was ogata’s sacrificial lamb, therefore he was the perfect, blameless victim. yuusaku’s purity is what drives ogata crazy - a life so innocent even someone who kills with no remorse gets second thoughts. ogata’s slip into insanity started the second he shot yuusaku; we get an objective perspective where he falls down immediately, and we have ogata’s perspective when he turns back and looks at ogata in an accusing, surprised, disappointed way. your sins staring back at you, in a way, accusing you of committing them, accusing you of evil.

yuusaku is not really a person in the narrative, he’s purposefully kept as lacking personality as possible, and without ogata he would be pointless. yuusaku is everything ogata could be. yuusaku is everything ogata hates.

ogata was never loved. as humans we're all wired to want to connect with others, but because he was never loved, good, healthy bonds are alien to him, so he tries to reach others in the only ways he knows how - through negative bonding. ogata is hyperaware of his inadequacy and the fact that he's severely lacking something as a person, but he prefers to self-sabotage and self-destroy by hurting others. he projects onto people as a way of connecting and as a way of rationalizing his own thoughts and experiences. yuusaku is everything that ogata could have been, he represents everything ogata lacks as a person and is ogata’s antithesis. he is the epitome of the normalcy ogata so craves. i don't think ogata would care much if it wasn't his own flesh and blood, but by being his brother yuusaku basically stole ogata's spot under the sun, the normal life and normal personality ogata could have had, in a way. of course, none of it was yuusaku’s fault, and ogata was aware of that, but bitterness and jealousy are feelings difficult to control just by understanding and acknowledging them.

if yuusaku left him alone ogata would probably leave him mind his own business, but yuusaku pushed his presence on him too - not out of ill intent, he just wanted to get close to his older brother because that’s what normal people do, they value and appreciate family, especially someone who was actually raised with love and care and virtue. he kept rubbing salt into ogata’s wounds by being so painfully normal and pure and idealistic and stupid, and his worst sin was trying to be kind to his brother. trying to see the best in him, telling him that he’ll be by his side no matter what, and showing hope for him. he cried for him. who else cried for ogata? who else disregarded his defenses and embraced him for warmth and compassion? who else accepted him? ogata is so critically not used to being shown normal human kindness that when he gets it he freezes. and it's the worst when it comes from his nemesis. "how dare you look at me from your high position, golden boy? how dare you pity me? how dare you love me?"

and ogata tried his best to tear yuusaku down, to dirty him and soil him and drag him down to his level, but he could not. so he killed him in hopes that his death will prove that ogata also had a chance at normalcy, and that if yuusaku's gone he will become ok. but he didn't. so he hates himself for killing yuusaku without managing to soil him. he realized his own mistake the moment his bullet hit his brother’s head; he realized that this mistake will haunt him to the end of his days, this failure of absolving himself of perceived sin, this acceptance for innocence as the currency for moral corruption. guilt towards other comes with a regret for doing them wrong, guilt towards oneself is often selfish in nature, born out of failure to do the right thing. i don’t think ogata feels regret towards killing yuusaku, but he does feel regret towards killing yuusaku while allowing him to stay pure and failing to tear him and his hypocrisy to shreds. if only yuusaku allowed himself to get corrupted in order to humor his brother - slept with a hooker, murdered an enemy - then these moral qualms on ogata’s side wouldn’t exist; he would have killed someone who is just like him.

while obviously flawed, ogata’s logic isn’t difficult to follow. both yuusaku and asirpa were innocent if the question is framed in terms of morality, but their innocence comes with a price everyone else has to pay. asirpa is against committing murder for religious reasons; those who kill humans are cursed and will go to hell, but she isn’t necessarily against murder itself if others do it, though she does not condone it. yuusaku was keen on keeping both his virginity and his killing count to 0 because he wanted to fulfill the role his father put on him - bearing the flag, putting yourself in the danger of the front lines and raising morale, what an honor. but ultimately both of them just refused to get their hands dirty while everyone else had to. it comes off as hypocritical and cruel. there is no bloodless revolution and there is no bloodless war.

ogata saw yuusaku in asirpa. he hated her for that. he hated asirpa for holding onto her hypocritical ideals and principles of purity the same way yuusaku did. he hated asirpa for being kind to him. "people like you and him shouldn't exist in this world" - they crumble his delusion that everyone is inherently rotten. and if people are not inherently rotten, then it means that the problem, indeed, lies within himself.

guilt towards others comes with remorse, wanting their forgiveness and pursuing ways to atone. it is selfless, it is something that is not self-centered. therefore i do not think ogata feels guilt towards yuusaku. even after yuusaku’s murder at his own hands, ogata assumes that he is forgiven - he tells the ghost he hallucinates that his kindness will ruin him. guilt towards himself and his failures though? that’s his cross to bear.

If you've watched their Be behind video, and you've seen Jin talk about how RM complained to him when Tae chose Suga's version over his version you'd know where JK is coming from or where I think he is coming from having JMs version chosen over his.

Watch their Be self interview on yt too.

He said there's a melody he worked on for RM and when Jhope thought he got snubbed he recommended he release it instead- to quench his artistic drive perhaps.

That is why he released this song. He did it for himself. Like he said, he won't put out a song unless he was confident about it.

Suga have said time and again how the music and melodies they create never go to waste because they can repurpose it like he did with Telepathy I think.

Even JK explained he was reserving the melody he made for RM for a future group song.

He could have repurposed this or something.

When Jin talked about V vs JM's Christmas song and kept repeating how much he preferred Jimin's song to Tae's because Jimin"s was bright and upbeat, he made sure to clarify he wasn't implying Tae's song was bad. He was just indicating preference.

I won't lie, I was happy he preferred my bias's song but it made my VMin heart ache a little.

V and JM made very different songs, they shouldn't be compared to eachother in that way.

I don't like competitions. And I don't like when two artists are pit against eachother- which is exactly what these two versions of the bridge is doing out here.

This is a red flag for me. And no, it doesn't mean they are broken up or having issues in their relationship.

This is just a sign there's too much independence in their dynamic now- if you know what I mean.

Relationships flourish based on how attached we are to people- too much attachment is a problem, too little attachment is equally bad.

Jikook have always had a problem with over attachment in their dynamics in my opinion, to the point it was lowkey unhealthy- the jealousy, not being able to 'act professionally' within a group and work environment, having problems with being separated however briefly, constantly wanting to be where the other is etc.

Less attachment isnt necessarily a bad thing either. It means less of all the 'toxic' aspects of their relationship that over attachment brings but too much of that too can trigger anxiousness and insecurity and resentment.

Especially if one of them hates change. Cough Jimin.

With that comes all the wild aspects of love such as possessiveness, jealousy and I know JM doesn't do too well in that department...

In my opinion, I see JM as having a problem when JK breathes down his neck emotionally speaking, and at the same time he has a problem when he is too emotionally distant.

All this is interesting to me.

Who do I need to talk to to give me more of Jikook interactions individually or jointly?

I want to see more of their interactions beyond the overly staged, dramatized fanservice and official content.

Spending a lot of time around eachother and eating each other's ramen- pun intended, does not reflect on how intimate you are.

Intimacy requires depth and depth requires attachment.

How you treat eachother's needs and goals, dreams and desires is equally indicative of the intimacy in your relationship.

That has always been one distinctive quality of Jikook's ship.

And so I wonder the thought process that went into this decision. I know JM wouldn't object to JK sharing things like these or doing things that make him happy even if it has the potential to impact his own shine in any way.

Jikook don't compete against eachother.
