The Swede was terrified of the Blackbeard crew, especially of the angry first mate who kept yelling at them constantly, but he had a job to do and he knew it was important so he steeled himself and got ready to do it.

First he went to see Roach in the galley and then made a round, checking on his crewmates but without distracting them from the tasks they had been given, although to be fair, Lucius and some of the others were simply pretending to work while they chatted nervously, but The Swede kept it short anyway since they were doing a good job at pretending and he didn’t want to ruin that either.

Once the easy part was done, though, he had to approach Blackbeard’s men because now that Bonnet and Blackbeard were co-captains of the Revenge he supposed they were also crewmates. Scary and angry crewmates most of the time, except for Fang, who seemed to smile a lot more now that he and Lucius were friends.

He decided to talk to Fang first then and he got a big smile and a thank you from the bearded man. Encouraged by this, The Swede walked towards Ivan, who simply grunted and nodded and then, feeling a bit more nervous, he went to find the First Mate Hands.

The man was by the railing, seemingly checking the rigging with an angry frown on his face, but The Swede still walked straight to him and cleared his throat to get his attention.

“WHAT?”

“Good morning, First Mate Hands,” The Swede said politely. “One of my tasks is to make sure everybody on the ship has an orange every day, so here it is yours, sir,” he added, handing him the last of his oranges.

The first mate looked at the orange on the palm of his hand as if it was some strange sea creature he hadn’t seen before and his mouth opened as if to yell again, but no sound came out.

“It’s good for your health,” The Swede explained. “To avoid getting scurvy, you know? That’s a very nasty thing.”

The older man looked even more confused, but at least he closed his mouth so The Swede hoped there wasn’t going to be any more yelling for now.

“It’s alright if you don’t want to eat it now,” he added. “You can always keep it in your pocket for later, sometimes I do that too. But you have to remember to eat it if you don’t want to lose your teeth, they’re very important and you wouldn’t like that, believe me.”

Finally, the first mate raised his hand slowly and took the orange and The Swede smiled broadly. He had fulfilled his most important task, every crewmate had an orange, even the scary ones.

“T-thank you,” the first mate finally said, looking wide-eyed at him.

“You’re welcome, sir!”

And with that The Swede walked away, ready to keep going with his other tasks, while the first mate stared in amazement at the small orange in his hand.

Adam’s grin turns wider. “You’re rather demanding, aren’t you? Why am I not surprised? But hey, that’s okay. I’m gonna take good care of you, Grubi.”

Good. He likes hearing that. He also likes the spike in Adam’s scent.

Confidence, pride, excitement.

It’s a mix so strong Grubi can’t help but lean in and scent the big, strong alpha, his nose practically buried in Adam’s neck.

“You like the way I smell?” the Swede asks, and Grubi ignores the amusement coloring his voice. Instead, his purr is answer enough. “Guess my shower was thorough enough then.”

There are some more chuckles around them, and he’s sure he hears Burky comment something. He ignores it. While he loves having Burky’s familiar scent around he’s more focused on all those happy and contented scents – until there’s one that doesn’t fit.

Turning away from Adam, he follows his nose, follows his instincts to see where this dissonance is coming from. He already knows, of course, so when his eyes land on his favorite – and only – omega defenseman, he almost grins in victory.

Because Grubi knows what jealousy smells like.

And in this case, it’s exactly what he was waiting for.

You are in for a good time tonight. As you're about to leave, known handsome serial killers Edward Teach(murder doesn't count if you're pretty) and Stede Bonnet(murder doesn't count if you're rich and blonde) crack tasteless jokes about the deceased. One thing I really enjoy about the crew of Revenge is the accents.

There is a variety of nationalities that are reflected in the way the characters speak, and it's not something anyone comments on or something that makes someone stand out.

Nothing is uniform; in most shows you have people with more or less the same accents, at best variety of native-English-speaker ones. When a non-native speaker shows up it's always obvious they are slightly different. They're the Russian, the Frenchman, to pick the most commonly used ones. (Latin American characters in English media are their own flavour of Other.)

On OFMD, on the Revenge and most pirate spaces, uniformity does not come across anyone's minds. In a very literal sense, uniform is what we see in the navy. Same clothes, same ethnicity, same accent.

OFMD beautifully portrays what it's like being in an international group of folks where we all come from different countries and use English to communicate. The language becomes a tool without a trace of classism, and accent is just a part of your voice just as it's pitch and tone. When you're the only non-native in a group of English speakers, you can be judged for your accent, in both positive and negative ways. But in a group of non-natives, it's not indicative of your status or intelligence.

And I LOVE seeing Roach, the Swede, Jim, Wee John, Lucius and Stede being on the same level in this. It's giving me something 99% of Hollywood or BBC shows don't - it makes me feel welcome and equal in an English speaking world.

The cultural hegemony of the anglo-american world rarely acknowledges anyone else, and at least from the POV of a European there is a bit of a relatability gap. I spend most of my time with people from different parts of Europe, and most of the time we watch stories about the English or Americans. So it's really enjoyable to finally see something closer to my experience. Not from a POV of a minority in this case but something else, another face of reality.

And for the same reason I also appreciate that in s2e6 La Vie En Rose was sang in French instead of an English translation. Considering the makeup of this crew it was a nice touch to not default to English.

That same now empire may have been your childhood friend. And that he's laughing because of something you said.

And maybe that would have been the official beginning of a Greek romance of almost three centuries.

And your POV is from the newly proclaimed and young Kingdom of Prussia, obviously.

How the erikssons are portrayed from my pov (as a non Latino), is that they are exactly like a Swedish family but with another font. The only difference is some Spanish sentences once in a while (they don’t even eat Latam food, other than Simon mentioning it once). And it’s not to sound arrogant, and this is a genuine question… do the Latin American audience feel represented in the Eriksson family? Do you see the Latam culture in their family dynamic/structure/etc? Or is it clear that it’s constructed by a swede?

I love being an Izzy hater. I feel that he could earn a redemption arc theoretically, but the writers will deliver the steps needed to redeem him. I genuinely can't see anything in canon right now that makes him likeable. I think people have great theories about how izzy might be redeemed but he's literally just a jackass right now and I'm so happy to sip my haterade

I consider myself neutral personally I just seem like a hater because I don't like it when people pretend he's something he's not and pretend that other characters are something they're not in order to shoehorn the story into something Izzy sympathetic. Like Izzy isn't that interesting or fun to me but he's integral to the plot of my fav show so I don't hate him.

that said there hasn't been any inkling of a redemption arc yet and people are sooooooo fucking sure it's gonna happen as if his death hasn't been foreshadowed way more than him ever getting better. Like what would Izzy getting better even look like? He just wouldn't be the same Izzy anymore. Name one good thing about him that isn't physical. You can't. unless you mean good as in interesting trait for a character to have in which case he does have a few of those. Neurotic and psychosexually complex being prime among them. but like ... whenever someone begs me to see things from his pov they really want me to sympathize with the gay incel.
