Clan Culture Illustrations

So I've been mentioning this in passing, and I think now is a good time to start collecting info from people who are interested!

I'm seeking artists who want to draw stuff for my Clan Culture series.

I often write very large guides for things like tools, ecology, medicine and treatments, etc, which then get held up by the fact that they're big blocks of text without any fun pictures. I usually collaborate with friends and family, but I could put out more quicker if I had some artists on standby.

If you're an artist who would be interested in illustrating, here's the details;

Everything I make on this blog is tailored towards WC fans, but free for anyone to use and reference for their xenofiction worldbuilding projects. You do not have to be intimately familiar with the Warrior Cats books. This offer's open to anyone above 18.

Fans of Better Bones are preferred, because Clan Culture and BB often intersect. I might ask for help with some BB stuff at some point, too. (for example i have a guide on types of StarClan spirits that needs illustration)

To re-iterate, please only inquire if you're 18+

Price range is 20 - 50 USD and turnaround time can be up to 6 months if you just keep me updated. (I am sorry that I can't offer a higher price for these, but this is coming from my own pocket. In return, this is meant to be low pressure)

Half payment upfront, the rest after completion.

I will never "assign" you a surprise mystery topic (unless you ask for that I guess?), I'll either present you with a list of posts that need illustration (yes this means you get to read stuff early), OR float some ideas that play to your strengths and interests. (for example: if I'm approached by Spider-Enjoyer-9000 who's willing to draw a ridiculous number of spiders, I will draft, write, and research a Clanmew Expansion in the style of Deer and Co or Moths and Butterflies.)

Either way, there's usually a lot of creative freedom here unless I need a specific technical drawing, which I will discuss with you and provide references for. (As an example, if we were talking about a post on declawing, I might ask for you to illustrate the muscles within the paw.)

The nature of Clan Culture means you will probably be asked to draw plants, food, objects, and/or scenery

Also, please tell include in that message if you're comfortable with illustrating these particular sensitive topics. These are opt-in only;

Medical Gore (Woundcare, stitching, blood, vomit, urine, parasites and bug bites, etc.)

Reproductive Care (Abortion, birth, pyometria, inducing lactation, possible revamp of the HRT guide including simple surgeries, etc)

Hunting and Butchery (Humane killing of prey, skinning, disembowelment, cutting meat, making sausage and blood pudding, etc)

Funerals and Animal Death (Sad kitties, dead battle cats, scavengers and grave desecration, tombs and burial rituals, concealing decay, etc.)

The end art will always stay tasteful, but I might need to give you references in the form of real images or tutorials that might be upsetting if you're sensitive to these topics-- so it's important to me that I consider those four things "opt-in."

I have plenty of other posts that need illustration, it's just a huge plus if you're able to do these too.

(You should also mention any other specific triggers or phobias you have, so I don't unwittingly come at you with something else upsetting)

"Would everything have to be colored?"

Nope, as long as there's pictures to break up the text, you can do sketches, black and white, flat colors, only put color in the header, etc. We'll discuss expectations with the post in front of us, and then agree on price.

I have ONE requirement; it's gotta look good on Tumblr darkmode. Because I use Dark Reader.

"Do you have a Discord?"

I do, I just try to be exclusive with who I give it to! When we're discussing details, we'll probably move over there if you'd like. This is a reason why I only want to work with 18+ artists, I'm not always SFW on main.

"Can we do an entry together about (specific topic)?"

Probably yes, so feel free to ask! The worst that will happen is that I say no, or maybe later. For example, I've got a post on Sweetness Tolerance reserved for my partner (they like to draw sweets), so I would say no if you asked.

Just keep in mind that researching, outlining, and writing is unpaid labor I'm doing completely for free. I have posts mostly done that just need art, and topics I've done some research on. Please only ask for special collaborations from scratch if you're serious 🙏

"Does it have to be digital?"

You'd have to have a WILD idea for me to say yes to anything non-digital, but I am a queer of whimsy. If you can whimsify me with an idea, hell yeah.

"Will I be compensated if you need any changes?"

Yes. If I spring anything on you after the details we agree on, I will first ask you, then ask how much that change would cost, and then compensate you for it.

As fair warning though, I am trying to stay within a budget and writing the posts themselves is unpaid work I do (plus occasional helping hands during research stages, I consulted a friend who is an irl wetlands expert for ShadowClan's environment). I can't pay more than what we agree on.

"Can I link my info in the post?"

Yes. "Guest Artist" is going to be named in the opening paragraphs, along with any fundraiser, shop info, carrd, etc, you want there.

(Naturally this comes with an anti-ghoul caveat or two. If you try to get me to donate to something like Autism Speaks I will rotate every bone in your body by 45 degrees.)

If Percy had a YouTube Chanel he’d 1000000% would post videos of him at the beach, suffering tips, fun facts about sea creatures.

THAT’s what he got famous for! Sea Animal facts. Just shorts/reals/tiktoks where he just goes on this little rant about a certain animal for the video.

He’s very well know for acting as if he has personally met this animals and talked to them. Which he has, but the majority of human population, being unaware of the Greek myths being real, assume it’s a bit.

Percy’s videos are basically:

“Dolphins are f****** a*******. This one time, i waved at one, and he just flashed me.” He says with wide eyes and dropped jaw “like i don’t want to see your pecker, buddy. Are you crazy? Put that thing away man. Concent bro…. My gods…”

He also post shorts videos where he is just walking on the sand and finds these seashells and picking them up, analyzing them and just talking about them.

“These seal is called a Whelks, they are supper pretty. Sea Snails live in these, they are supper nice color. Sharp too, could kill my step dad with this.” He’d chuckle “Not my current stepdad he’s cool, but my last one… just, stab him in the eye with this beauty.” He smirked and then screamed benoftheweek style and wiggle the shell’s tip in front of the camera and end the recording.

There’s a meme clip of him talking, like sincerely talking to a goldfish in a tank, when taking his little sister somewhere.

he has beef with the VeganTeacher. Basically for the opposite reason Benoftheweek does.

So Ben gets crap from the Vegan Teacher for being pescatarian. Basically you don’t eat any forms of animal products except fish. And That Vegan Teacher hates him for eating fish and not being completely vegan.

So Percy is NOT a pescatarian, vegetarian or Vegan!

However he does use his YouTube as a platform to spread awareness around ocean pollution, he does not eat any sea creatures. He will recommend documentaries about the problems with mass fishing and dumping waste in the waters, such as poop or trash. He is really passionate. About it and is super protective of it.

Daya is that you will eat me and other animal products but nothing from the sea. 

There’s assholes that send him dead fish as a “joke” because he takes it too seriously. He was in absolute rage.

Anyway… he is very vocal about these things and then that vegan teacher started beef with him because he wasn’t spreading awareness about land animals and he should be telling people to not eat animals period, and not that they just shouldn’t eat fish.

She tried to pull her classic “Would you eat a dog” line on him.

And Percy deadass said “um, no. Because that’s not part of my culture. But in some cultures they do eat dogs.” Then he called Frank and made a Chinese joke with Frank, but it was in good taste, it was that ‘playfull everyone in the friend group is a different race so we ironically make race jokes about each other as a way to poke fun of actual racist and this is all in good humor’ kind of joke.

I’m enjoying so much doing this simpler style. No need to worry about techniques layering, gradation, ... just worrying about how squishible I can make those cheeks of his.

Even tho he actually is not my favorite, I find myself drawing him quite often… Kenma is just so fun and iconic.

YouTube cropping

Animation has always borrowed techniques from other mediums. Cinema in particular. But lately YouTube TikTok and other video platforms have created a new cinematic language that has, among other things, a specific way to frame and create comedic moments.

This usage of poor quality zoom in is definitely one of those. And it works really well within these two stories, as just like many YouTube videos, they combine over the top ridiculousness with emphasis on charismatic characters. Though, to be honest it is more natural in Dandadan (and storyboarders knew that damn well so they even used it twice) and I can easily imagine mangaca himself do a stunt like that. Dungeon Meshi though gets away with it mainly thanks to Trigger signature style.

What I’m saying is Marcille and Momo would be real popular youtubers Trigger and Science Saru are as quirky as ever and it suits them! Wow it’s so fun to observe media change in real time.

I’ve been wanting to rant about this scene for a whiiiile chat. So here goes. This is from chapter 85. I’m a Loki simp so I just gotta.

I cannot get over the adorable art style change here!! He just looks so cute and playful. Yes, he’s always playful and laid back, but with Hilde, he just seems more…. Genuine. Like this is him actually trying to be friendly and make her smile. He often smiles maliciously when being snide or passive aggressive with Odin, especially when poking fun at him. Here, his smile just looks so much different. He looks pretty different from the start of the series, but it’s a very pleasant change. He still got those hips plus those amazing arms.

Hilde looks so pretty in that panel. Like my girl is just so gorgeous. I also love how Loki seems to want to actually help her. Gotta love his goofy poses.

Loki looks more sly here like he’s planning on doing more than just saving her. He just looks so smug, he thinks he’s convincing her. I just love when he floats around. He looks so cute and hot at the same time. THOSE HIIIIIIIPS THAT BACK CUUUURVE.

I’m still not quite sure how to interpret his little jig here lmao. Like Loki baby what’re you doing there??? It’s interesting how he claims to be better at convincing Odin than most, then asks her for a special favor.

I’m not surprised she interpreted this as being a transaction. He did certainly insinuate something, but given his reaction, he wasn’t trying to get her to hand over her body. Hilde my beloved. Straight up doesn’t care if she dies, since she knows that’s how Ragnarok works. Loki just looks so frustrated.

Here we get a glimpse of how petty Loki really is. He knew Siegfried is a sensitive spot for Hilde, he knew saying that would piss her off, that’s why he did it. In the exact moment she refused, he panicked and just reacted with pettiness to try and convince her to go along with his plan to save her. This shows us he really isn’t that mature. While he’s extremely intelligent and cunning, very sharp witted and analytical, he’s just immature in the long run. Loki deep down is petty and cunning in ways that gets people to do what he wants. Lemme remind y’all of season two of the anime when he’s fighting Buddha, Kondou, Sasaki, and Okita.

This scene also perplexes me. He’s seems excited to learn about this, but probably because he’s planning something malicious. He knows Siegfried is her lover, and he’s filing that away for evil plans to get at her, maybe even to try and kill Siegfried. If he takes out her lover, he might think she feels all alone and will be more inclined to go to him for help. The art here is just amazing too. That panel of him looking stunned mid smile is mwahhh.

Once again. Her LIIIPS. MWAHS. she looks amazing as ever. Her cold response is expected. She sees Loki as the enemy given he’s a god who’s against saving humanity. My goodness his reaction is so sad. Like he’s just stunned at how unfeeling she is towards him. Once again Loki, immaturity won’t do shit.

This can be tweaked infinitely, obviously, from the colors to where the designs are placed along the model ! (^^)

I finished Veilguard around midnight last night and, honestly, I liked the game a lot! When the trailer came out I mentioned the sort of accidental rhythm the series has had-- I was talking about the art style then, but coming back to it I think the second and fourth installments are both really solid games that can't hide the time and budget constraints of their (very different) production cycles.

In DA2, it was a smaller scope of story and reused assets. Veilguard isn't quite as straight forward: it's visually stunning and ambitious, but everywhere I look I see writing and gameplay features that must have been cut, pared down, or underdeveloped at some part of the process. Branching choices are expensive, and Veilguard had exponentially more of them to contend with going in. I'm sad that they weren't able to accommodate more of them, but I understand why. A lot of us played BG3 which gave a buffet of rpg choices we haven't seen from Bioware since Origins, and I do think a lot of us coming from that with ten years of expectations built up around Veilguard gave it a high bar to clear.

I know EA is a trend chaser, so I'm VERY interested to see what influence BG3 might have on the next mass effect game.

To get this out of the way: I played a cheeky elven Antivan(?) Crow Rook. She saved Minrathous at the expense of Treviso, romanced Taash, lost Davrin and Assan after returning the griffons to the wardens, and with the help of a blighted Bellara, begrudgingly convinced Solas to take notes on his course of action.

I friggin love my Rook, and I'm not sure how much is me leaning into the tone of writing for this game and how much is the robust customization, good animation and excellent voice acting. I ended up playing her having a tonal shift in act three and it worked out really well. Also, my Inquisitor was all the way up Solas's ass and it was so much fun to play Rook having none of his shit.

As far as the companions, I generally liked them? Like, I ended up feeling affection for all of them, even if they weren't exactly the most interesting set we've had. They don't necessarily compel me as characters. I think Taash was the stand out for me. Loved them, liked their storyline-- the straight up use of "non-binary" was super jarring though, very modern terminology in a world that thus far has been good at representing queer identities without using labels.

I honestly feel like I missed a Lucanis quest that established his relationship with Spite. Was there something between his recruitment and the Minrathous/Treviso choice I missed? He's got the set up for this interesting internal-ish conflict but all his development seemed to focus on the external stuff. Idk.

Factions were a little toothless. Agree that Crows were far too nice, and the Wardens.... When Blackwall talked about them in such idealistic, rose colored terms I thought it was because he was talking out of his ass, but then Davrin has the same idea and they're just like that now? Antoine and Evka are rad though, but I feel like they should feel a little more like outsiders-- give us some contrasting wardens besides the first warden, cuz everyone hanging out in the anderfels seems generally decent.

The main storyline was good, though. Act three was amazing. Bioware did a good job remedying criticisms from their last couple of entries. The Evunaris were great villains, present and threatening throughout the game. Facial animations and body language were good too. (Those quest giving conversations with flat lighting and stiff animations seemed like something they repurposed from the live service iteration) Side quests, when not just going to a place and having a conversation, were varied and interesting.

It's not a perfect game by far and I wish the same as everyone that they'd incorporated more world state stuff, and that there'd been a little more meat on the bone writing-wise for the titular cast. But I had a great time playing it, am looking forward to another go around and am sad that there's not dlc in the pipeline.

Ruby Rose - 20/10 1000% has a hot topic membership card. Possibly even for life. You're really gonna look me in the eyes and tell me she's not browsing the... aisles? ...of this emo-pop store and NOT wear the merch on the way out? Get outta here!

Weiss Schnee - 4/10 Odds are low, but never zero. Weiss probably indulges Ruby and browses, but it's never something that really screams "I got this at Hot Topic". She'll probably buy a belt, or maybe a keychain, but it's only so she can support the dying industry of her partner's favorite chain. That and the belt's actually match her style.

Blake Belladonna - 6/10 She's kinda grown out of it. Sure, when she was younger, she might have got some edgy, punk garb with Adam, but she's matured since then, and might pop in to see if there's anything new, but there isn't. The faces may change, but the atmosphere stays the same.

Yang Xiao Long - 2/10 Only goes in for business, as in buying Ruby a birthday present. She never really got what was so special about the store and always had a secret fear that it had a seedy, corrupting factor. Honestly, when she learned that it was way more wholesome than the Spencer's next door, which she loves hanging out in WAY more, she realized that Hot Topic's only threat was to her sister's lien.

Jaune Arc - 8/10 If there was a guy more likely to go into Hot Topic, Jaune Arc hasn't met him yet. He really digs the designer tees, all ranging from edgy anime to cartoon nonsense. Every trip to Hot Topic is a chance to get something new and fun to hang around with friends in. Plus, the lady working the register is really nice.

Nora Valkyrie - 5/10 Honestly, with Nora it's a hit or miss. Sometimes she's all about the gloves and stickers and tiny backpacks, then other times she's all meh about being in there at all. If Nora does go in, it's because she wants to go in. If someone else tries to force her, she'll be like a horse to water. Bottom line; Nora will be Nora about it.

Pyrrha Nikos - 7/10 Surprisingly, Pyrrha likes going to Hot Topic with her friends. She's not really in the scene a whole lot, but she's happy to be there, regardless. Plus, the earrings all look like something cute that might get a certain someone's attention~.

Lie Ren - -10/10 Ren doesn't like Hot Topic. At all. Part of the reason is that he was kinda bullied by the other kids for looking like he shops there, so he's sorta built this grudge against the very thing that brought him so much pain. If Nora drags him in there, he's not going to move far from her. He'd rather stay outside, away from the emo, punk, and goth vibes that he'd been persecuted for allegedly attempting. Also, the staff look more bored than he does.

the way that every character lost their personal motive and unique personality 😭 death without meaning except for shock value and to further traumatize characters — and i will never get over how badly they fumbled the two core themes of season one — class warfare and sisterhood. the narrative tension of season 1 revolved around an oppressed class and their oppressors and all the different ways that affected characters and manifested problems, and to see it all thrown out for a marvel style epic robot battle??

seeing the rebels of zaun put on enforcer uniforms with absolutely no conversation no terms everyone just willingly teaming up made no sense. seeing caitlyn’s go full fascist because she leveraged her privilege for revenge, calling the people of the undercity animals, gassing them, and then just deciding to change and her little hiccup is barely addressed?? vi losing all her convictions just floating around the story, fucking!! even silco who only appeared in flashbacks and hallucinations going from this powerful spiteful manipulative genius to telling jinx to forgive and break the cycle?? he would’ve been whispering in her ear saying “burn them all my dear” i could go on and onnn

there’s a reason why marvel movies always have their super heroes fighting zombies or aliens or killer robots. they want to give you something that looks fun and full of fight choreography and special effects and epic shots without any moral complication. they don’t want there to be any thoughts that your fave is actually killing people or that there could be any consequences to their epic showy violence. but season one wasn’t that! it specifically showed us how complex class politics were — how people on both sides are good and how people on both sides are corrupt. how oblivious topsiders were and the ways in which people leveraged the privilege they had and all the ways silco was manipulating things in his favor, the trauma of poverty amd being part of an oppressed people and the different ways it manifests. season one was great because it breathed like a real social issue. to not only pivot away from all of that but to not even address it was honestly pathetic.

to give vi an ending where she’s alone except for caitlyn, acting like her lapdog, no happy ending where sister are reunited or there’s any justice for zaun, bringing isha in just to kill her for shock value but also we never really see anyone mourn her, putting sevika on council and calling it a day. having the last episode truly just feel like an ad for league. it all just felt really cheap despite how beautiful it was. the heart was there they just fucked up the writing so bad. i didn’t know all the writers were fired but three but hearing that now makes a lot of things make sense

i cant stop thinking about why i hated arcane s2. arcane is so supremely frustrating because it's not a complete failure. real love, time, and care went into production - especially the animation and voice acting.

this wasn't something that was made quickly and cheaply to turn a quick buck. of course it's just a glorified advertisement for riot games, but it still had a budget of a quarter billion dollars?

and yet, season 2 failed so spectacularly. on the macro-level. how is it possible that the story is so bloated yet empty? so convoluted? so devoid of actual coherent, cogent themes, ideas, arguments, etc.? it's disappointing to see a piece of art made with so much love be so... underwhelming

Headcannons BEN Drowned.

Starters first he died at the age of 14 and I do personally think he is the same case as Sally, he does not age nor physically nor mentally. We all know that Ben basically "controls" the electronics. I always liked to imagine that when he wants to be alone he just goes inside an electronic and hangs out there.

When it comes to personality, he is very bubbly but sarcastic as hell if that makes sense. Extroverted, very extroverted. Likes to pull harmless and actually funny pranks on the others in the manor.

His appearance will always be the one of a 14 year old. I think he has blonde hair but with faded dark green ends, that would look so cool. For fashion sense literally dresses for comfort not style. T shirt and jorts and some cartoon socks (can you tell that this is how I dressed at 14 yrs)

For friends he would totally be best friends with Jeff and silver. I think the whole fandom settled down on that one. I also the relationship between him and Sally brotherly. Shipping them is fucking weird. Also unpopular opinion, best friends with Nina. Like I totally see Ben being into scene/emo stuff and Nina just telling him about the politics and style. (I feel like everyone would be friends w Nina, can y'all tell I have a fav girl)

Spends time playing video games but every time someone says he's addicted to them and angel loses its wings. I feel like he would print posters and put them up his wall while listening to music or just draw. Likes to go to random trees and carve things into them like his name or anything to be honest.

When it comes to interest, forgive but my little pony... I'M SORRY BUT LOOK STRAIGHT INTO MY EYES AND TELL ME HE WOULDN'T LIKE MY LITTLE PONY LIKE. (Fav is rainbow dash) He also likes horror games like silent Hill or OMORI but still MLP better

I think his very short since hes only 14 like when I was 14 I was 5'6 so idk I think he would also be 5'6. Idk Americans heights I only know centimeters so that would come around 165-167 😿

His fav animal are definitely dogs. Has a ton of fun with Smile dog. Plays catch with him and honestly everyone in the manor loves smile dog, who wouldn't. Totally prefers dogs rather than cats, I still feel like his fav pet would be a parrot tho, I don't know why, maybe I'm just going insane writing this.

His favorite season would totally be autumn. He just seems that kind of person where you look at them and instaly know their fav season, autumn. He likes to see how the leaves fall and change color, likes to make those big piles of leaves and just jumps in it.

When he was still alive I think he would get sick on a regular basis, he's happy that now he can't get sick or go to the doctor to be treated or do those vaccines that you do at a specific age.

Most of his time is spend playing games but he really likes spending time with friends too. He likes to talk with silver about Pokemon and games in general, he likes to draw and gossip with Sally and he also really enjoys just talking with Jeff in general. There isn't really that much to do with Jeff rather than to talk shit about people or train.

Since he is a ghost I do think he is capable of going in the city whenever he wants to. I mean most proxies are but they don't do it that often due to the risk of being recognize but since he's a spirit he doesn't have to worry about that.

Speaking of music he is totally into Pierce the veil, like I do view him as the type of person to listen to electronic music but Pierce the veil goes with anything. I don't know ANYTHING about music genres so I'm gonna name any electronic bands😿

When it comes to killing I think he would drive his victims insane but when he wants to do it quick I just think he would electrocute them.

Never liked being a proxy but there isn't anything he can do about it. Honestly I don't think anyone likes being a proxy but most, like him, accepted their fate but still dream that one day maybe they'll be free.

How is he treated in the fandom?

From the very beginning when I joined this fandom in 2016 I saw people going crazy over Ben drowned. And I understand, it was 2016 and everything was very unrestricted, not a safe space for kids and teens and you would see some fucked up shit on the internet on a daily basis but I feel like now that we grew as a fandom and grew mentally we can all agree Ben isn't treated how he should be. He is a great character and very good written. His original story, BEN, where he gets stuck in Majoras mask and it was an ARG and nobody knew it wasn't real was so well done. But ts clear that Ben and BEN are both children, no matter of which one we speak.

The ships

First, he's a child, he shouldn't be shipped with anyone. It first started with Sally. There are so many wrong things here, in Sally's original story she dies at 8 years old and Ben at 12 (in my AU he is 14, no big difference) , that's a huge gap. Secondly why ship minors.

After the Sally incident it went along with Jeff which is more fucking worse. Not only that Ben is 12, Jeff is 20+. That is wrong on so many levels and I'm sure you're mature enough to know and I don't need to list down every fucking reason.

After Jeff, came silver. Which I don't know much about silver so I don't know if this is problematic or not. I'm not gonna put my opinion on this just wanted to include him too since he is apart of this too.

How people viewed him

Literally nothing changed when it comes to how people view him. There are only 2 ways, you either see him as k1nk1 and perverted or as a stoner and a crack head. What the fuck. I don't think I ever met someone who does NOT think of him like that, it's trully sickening and weird. And it has always been like this. It's a huge problem that sadly the people in the fandom choose to ignore rather than speak about it and try to fix it. A problem won't fix itself if no ones speaks no one speaks up about it, and not just one person, more.

Excuses

Many people use excuses when talking about why they go crazy over Ben. I don't believe there is any excuse, you're just weird for doing that. The only excuse that seems KINDA valid is being the same age as him, I can't say anything at that but 15+ and still having a crush on Ben? No. Just no.

When you're the same age as the character, I can't say anything but older than that specific character? It's just wrong, in any way. People, especially adults, need to stop having crushes on characters younger than them or that are literally minors.
