they put out a new mini-trailer and this lack of commitment is really exacerbated the more footage we get of the remake.

we have our first looks at stormfly and hookfang and oh, what's this? they look realistic and dragony! they look like they've been retrofitted to fit the hyperrealistic aesthetic of the remake!

and then we get new looks at toothless immediately after and it makes this clash of styles all the more jarring.

it's like they could've done more to make toothless look more realistic to fit the aesthetic of the remake more, but chose the coward's way out and ported his design from the animated movie. so now we have hyperrealistic dragons flying around with weird cartoon toothless so that's fun

laughing at the entire conceit of live action httyd being "animation is for babies so we HAVE to remake this shot-for-shot in live action" but also they need to sell a new wave of plushies at universal studios orlando so toothless still looks like a fucking cartoon character

Live Fast - Party Animal - Mean Charisma 5 Handiness 2 Mischief 3 Dancing 5 Fitness 2 Maeve is 17 years old and she's the real party animal of all High-School parties. Just like her dad when he was younger. Anyway, Maeve is this type of a girl who likes to live this moment right here right now, no postponing allowed. Mom, of course, isn't too happy about her daughter's life style so far. She often gets angry, because of Maeve's late nights and lack focusing on school. You can figure out they don't really get along, almost always. Maeve is quite notorious at school, not a top student though. Her classmates think she's cool, someone finds her annoying or even fear her. She can't stand jocks and rich girls, that's for sure. There were times when Maeve roasted that one nasty rich girl, you should've seen it, the laugh! She doesn't hate school, Maeve rather find it as a cool place to meet with her friends and have some fun time. Maeve still uncertain about her romantic orientation, but she does like great guys though. Why did she apply for a TD? Well, listen, this whole event is a big party, one way or another. Omg? Hang out with others, have a fun time, the competitive mood, beat the rivals, build relationships! So many ways to fuel the adrenaline, get some attention and escape the dull routine. I don't know what can be better for Maeve! We can be pretty sure this is totally for Maeve Bargen. That's her kind of a party and no, mom won't stop her.

i'm finally almost done with all the comms i took back in december so i'm thinking of going back into the grind and taking more commissions again!

i'm in a better spot for drawing right now and i'd really enjoy taking some fullbody comms to balance all the icons I've been doing. though i'll set a rule and say i only want to take animal/furry comms right now because that's what's easier and more fun for me!

Mane Six Redesign! 🌟 + Finalized Cutie Mark Redesigns!

these ponies are the only things keeping me sane during this insane time guys! hope they can help u too if you’re having a tough time^^

Some notes about their designs below if you’re interested! :D

Finally redesigned their cutiemarks! I wanted them to be as intricate as their cutie mark story! I tried to make them match my style as well, cause the originals didn’t really fit too well in my interpretations. these will probably be the ones i use from now on!

Twilight of course has her iconic blunt cut, I think the ponytail suits her straight to the point, sarcastic but loving and fun personality in the first season! her hair will slowly start to loosen into a low tied back ponytail as she learns the magic of friendship :’) if you saw my Older Mane Six Redesigns you can see what I mean! She also has birthmarks around her chest and horn! While marks are seen in Pegasi usually, they are seen in Unicorns in rare cases. When she becomes an Alicorn, creatures mistakenly think she was born a Pegasus.

I feel like Applejack, in her traditional country girl style would have a longer mane than originally! I gave her Pear Butter’s hair texture, and though she doesn’t really know how to maintain it, she keeps it long in honor of her mother. But! she does keep it braided to keep it out of the way. Vitiligo bc I think it would be common among Earth Ponies, supposedly mirroring the way sun dances on the soil.It also is what causes her freckles! Also, I made her hair similar to the shape of a bitten apple! I think it rly suits her as the CORE (pun intended) apple! :p

Fluttershy!! Shorter mane/tied up bc the animals always try to claw and tangle themselves in it. Her silhouette is meant to juxtapose Dash’s, despite their similar design choices! (ie similar length manes, tails, both pegasus ofc) this is to really emphasize the fact that Pegasi come in so many varieties! When people say she should have just been an Earth Pony makes me so sad, bc that’s the whole point! She isn’t your typical pegasus but we love her for it! Multiple pink shades in her mane to mirror Celestia, as many ponies later point out her likeness to her— I also think it’s an interesting point of what exactly is the beauty standard in Equestria! Fluttershy has often been remarked as very beautiful, and I’d like to think her similarity to the Princess is part of that. She also has hoof marks on her! All pegasi do and in rare cases, they relate directly to their future cutie mark!

RARITY MY DIVA !!!! Ofc had to give her the most luxurious mane of all. She has a curly hair type, and is arguably the only one of the Mane Six who knows how to properly care for her hair type 😭 don’t worry! she teaches her friends and it’s wonderful (i wonder who i mentioned earlier that rly needs her help…. 💎🍎…..) I wanted her to invoke the feeling of the original myths of unicorns, with their lankiness and long, flowing white coats. She was actually my first redesign all the way back in august, and the only one i haven’t changed! I love her more than anything.

Pinkie Pie was lowk the hardest for me because of her monotonous color palette 😭 but I didn’t want to change it bc she is simply!!! iconic!!!! I enjoy the designs of the original mane six and just wanted to alter elements of the designs rather then entirely recreate the characters from the ground up. She has very tight coily hair (my poc queen 🤞🤞) and decorates it with her favorite confetti! and sometimes frosting >< Gave her highlights to better see the shapes in her mane. And ofc gave her more blue accents! I think it’s so understated that she has two iconic colors in her palette and no one takes about it

And finally, Rainbow Dash! Dashie was so much fun bc I had such a clear vision for her. I wanted that sweet lightning bolt motif, both cause I think she would have a cut specifically for dazzling up her flying skills, but also to mirror AJ’s hair motifs! (for u appledashies out the ;3) and also because they’re always head to head, but rly they go hoof in hoof together and compliment their softer friends so well. Dash’s scars on her wings are from her first sonic rainboom! She was very lucky to have it heal stinger than before, and was the only filly to ever do so. Her Pegasi hoof marks are actually very plain, which is why she tattooed over them! she had them done is the same style of her cutie mark, and actually got one of her hoof wings tattooed white too. Speaking of her cutie mark, I wanted it to feel like the sonic rainboom really left an impression on her physically, dancing on her coat, forever with her :) it also, to dash’s enjoyment, is rad as heck!!

For my name it was a nickname I was giving back in middleschool! One of our teacher had a system where we worked with 'wifi' eachtime we talked in class we lost a bar of the "wifi" (was a weird joke and we never held count on that) All the kids usually joked if they needed 'wifi' , they would borrow mine if they wanted to talk more. (I was incredibly shy in middle school, I only talked to like 3 people at school;^;)

They called me Ms. Wifi because of that. I just thought it would be funny if I put 'miss' instead of 'ms' because of my terrible actual wifi connection I have at home lol.

Almost feel like this is a no-brainer, but...

Resonator Headcanons

Any of the resonators with certain mutations - like YangYang's feather hair or Mortefi's scales - definitely have traits from the animals most directly associated with those mutations.

Like, imagine Jiyan is actually keeping his shit under wraps. He actually has senses akin to a dragon's, like how serpents have extra sensitive olfactory systems, Jiyan able to smell things from an incredible distance in comparison to someone without these abilities, or even able to breathe in and let the air over his tongue and sense things that way. Also, him being able to perceive colors outside the usual human realm... He can see better, smell better, his reflexes heightened, but in a more fun angle... What if he hisses?

Like he thrums through his throat and creates a reverberation without even thinking? If he gets territorial? Doesn't like when Rover gets too close to danger and literally komodo dragon-style hisses at whatever it is? But if he usually keeps his cool, keeps the beast at bay, and tries to control himself. Gets embarrassed when he can't and apologizes, but can't help himself. He also has an incredibly insatiable need to curl around Scar until his lungs are crushed and wants to eat him whole and doesn't know why??? Like— He's a human, right? ...Right? (Doesn't know he's a sheep, and thus a prey-item, so thus begins the confusion.)

And if Mortefi is basically exactly the same, but he's a little different because he's more Western Dragon than Eastern Dragon. If he can breathe deeply and feel his chest alight with the warmth of fire and smoke? Or if he even has a hoarding problem, and can't explain it, so he just... doesn't.

No to mention whatever scaled creature Yuanwu is supposed to be! What would he be like???

Then there's YangYang, as mentioned previously. What if she's really light because of hollow bones? If she can leap that high because of her lack of weight? Or maybe her whole "sensing things on the wind" is just the conclusion she personally came to, not having a better explanation, but what it ACTUALLY IS is that she has senses similar to those birds use during migration? Like she can dictate movement through the sun's position, smell, and temperature?

And what about Verina and Camellya that are both plant based? Do they photosynthesize? Do they get energy from the sun and carbon dioxide AND oxygen? Is that why they're both kind of bouncy? Are they hardy because they mutated on a cellular level and thus have cell walls? And what about water? Do they NEED to drink, or can they go without if it's raining?

Just imagine all the possibilities!

This is going behind a cut both because this post is already so long and because I generally try not to talk too much about gacha game fandoms on Tumblr because I feel weird about providing free marketing for things with gambling mechanics that can easily destroy people's lives.

Let me see if I can explain this.

So! Despite the aforementioned attempts to mostly keep the amount I talk about it on Tumblr low, I have been into Arknights for several years now. Like, into it enough that I keep breaking down and ranting about it anyway.

The easiest way to describe Arknights is, "Grimdark science fantasy tower defense about catgirls with guns." But this is a little like describing Metal Gear Solid as "a series of stealth games where you play as a genetically-engineered supersoldier": it's a largely accurate description and necessary starting point, but it doesn't remotely prepare you for what you're about to get into, and especially how much of that experience will consist of hour-long cutscenes discussing the human cost of the socioeconomic turmoil following the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Arknights is an otherworld fantasy story and the vast majority of its characters are animal-people, but most of the countries are extremely clear and up-front parallels to real ones- the Ursus Empire is Furry Russia, Siracusa is Furry Italy, Victoria is Furry England, etc. That makes it a setting that's knit together by huge amounts of real-life references, even though the original setting lore is pretty expansive all by itself, which is something they're only able to pull off because there are clearly people on the creative team in a variety of positions who do incredible amounts of research about a wide variety of topics purely out of love of the subject. We're talking deep cuts. We're talking "there is a Halloween costume skin that paraphrases the closing passage of Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, which turned out to be a stealth spoiler for main story plot points several years later." We're talking "a whole storyline centered around 12th-century poetry." We're talking "NPC named for the author of a novel about medical ethics." We're talking heartrending multilayered Russian puns. We're talking the translators once had to swap out the names of several boss levels a few weeks after they released them because they hadn't caught that they were all titles of songs from an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

So, this is already a shockingly dense text, and it's intensely and openly political. And on top of all that, their favorite way to foreshadow things is through Dark-Souls-style single-line ambiguous but portentous hints. For someone like me who loves deep reading and overanalyzing for fun, this is catnip. However, for us losers who only speak English, there's a major extra complication: Arknights is made by people in China, in Chinese, and localizing it has got to be one of the most nightmarish translation tasks ever. The English server is 6 months behind the Chinese server, so there's always quite a bit of in-game material that's been released but Anglophones only have sketchy fragmentary translations of, and there are various tie-in materials that we don't know if they'll ever translate at all, notably an in-universe setting guidebook.

So, if I want to get my red string and thumbtacks conspiracy corkboard on properly, I need something like a wiki. I want to be able to check out references I might have missed and hunt for lore breadcrumbs more easily. Pretty basic wiki stuff, right? There's just one tiny little problem.

It's a mobile gacha game about anime catgirls.

And it turns out people who become admins at websites for posting data-mined combat statistics for mobile gacha games about anime catgirls are not always very smart or good at reading.

So the trivia and lore articles are frequently just... wrong. Sometimes it's tiny quibbles or missing nuance that disproportionately annoy me, but other times it's flagrant. Like, there's a character song that prominently references an extremely famous piece of classical music, the serenade from Franz Schubert's "Swan Song." Both the wiki and the not-actually-a-wiki-but-says-it-is-anyway correctly say that the character song is referencing a piece by Schubert... and then link to a completely different Schubert piece that is not referenced in the character song, because both of them are titled "Ständchen" because it. Means "serenade." And somebody made a Twitter thread about classical music references that linked the wrong video, and Gamepress plagiarized it without checking, and the wiki added it to various pages also without checking. And you can tell this immediately if you listen to the songs, but apparently no one has done that in almost 3 years even though @onwardmotley tried to fix it.

Now imagine that across a whole wiki trying to document a game with millions of words of text, which is the only public-facing source about some Chinese-language official material in English.

*sighs and resets "days since last tirade about an extremely obscure subject in a group chat because someone was wrong on the internet about a video game" counter to zero*
