How I sleep at night knowing that Ted Lasso season 3 had an episode called The Strings That Bind Us, centered around the metaphor of the red string of fate, structured like a romcom, with an opening scene directly stolen from You've Got Mail (x), soundtrack and all; and in this episode Ted complimented a guy's head of hair and said that something frames another guy's face nicely and that out of multiple men, the clean shaven one was his favourite; meanwhile Trent did not mutter one word in the direction of anyone who wasn't Ted, but had multiple conversations with Ted that called back to their scenes in previous seasons, all of this leading up to a chase scene in the last third of the episode, which obviously references the Race for Your Love trope (x)(x). Oh, and when the question "What's with the red string?" was posed to Ted, the camera immediately cut to Trent wearing a bracelet made of red string.

jamie training extra hard to be the best version of himself but not just for him but for the whole team. jamie laughing at his past (like the reality show) instead of getting angry at the teasing. jamie being hesitant to speak up because he doesn’t want to be seen as a prick anymore. jamie suggesting pulling himself back in order to execute the new strategy better. jamie leading and guiding the team to score a goal.

TED LASSO CONVERSATIONS THAT DEFINITELY HAPPENED OFF-SCREEN PART I

Roy enters and tosses a ball of red string on Ted’s desk.

Ted: Mornin’ Roy. What’s the string for?

Roy: First the lads. For today’s session.

Ted: Okay. Expound.

Roy: They need to fucking know where all the others are on the pitch.

Beard: Definitely.

Ted: Agreed.

Roy: So we’re gonna partner all of them up today -

Beard: Right, this is like that Japanese thing where soulmates are joined by their pinkies with red string. Right, Roy?

Roy: Sure, whatever.

Ted: Oh I love that!

Roy: But we’re going to get them to tie the string around their dicks.

Ted: …

Beard: …

Roy: (nodding, 100% seriously)

Beard: …

Ted: Sorry, Coach, did you say -

Roy: Their dicks, yeah.

At this point, Ted and Beard make hard eye contact, shrugging and mouthing to each other behind Roy’s back as he scribbles on the whiteboard and just assume that this was some weird shit that everybody did at Sunderland and Chelsea and hell, he must know what he’s talking about and they just decide to go with it.
