THAT DAMNED SPREADSHEET
DOES ANYONE TO HEAR ABOUT MY ADVENTURE IN THE SPREADSHEET?
Cause I'm pretty damned sure I know what getting "High" on Milgram means.
Talking about his being rejected by the Magnus Institute, Samama said:
[That definitely feels like when it all started. […] Well, after that it all just went downhill. Didn’t get into Oxford, so I went to Nottingham.]
And that does not sound like what one would say about something that happened when they were, like, eight. So I went to take another look at the spreadsheet. Of course I was wrong, because The Magnus Institute burned in 1999, so he couldn’t have been more than nine, but I found out other stuff.
A thing that bugs me in how I’ve read some discussing the spreadsheet is that Sam has the highest empathy score, and that it made him “too nice/good” for the Institute’s purposes (not necessarily this directly but it has been implied, including in the “recruiting future avatar theories, and… well, implying that low empathy makes you more likely to become a literal monster is quite disgusting, actually).
First, I think we got one thing wrong on the Kohlberg column. Since they are kids, it doesn’t seem shocking that they’d be around stages 1 to 3 of his “Six stages of moral development”; but it doesn’t say Stage 1, 2 or 3 it says Level 1, 2 or 3, and I don’t think it’s a mistake.
His six stages are divided into three levels: Pre-Conventional (1,2), Conventional (3,4) and Post-Conventional (5,6).
People in stages 1 and 2 (Level 1) have a sense of morality that is linked to the direct consequences of their actions on themself — stage 1 is “don’t hit the dog because you’ll be punished” and stage 2 “give her half your banana and you’ll get half her chocolate bar” (very simplified).
People on stages 3 and 4 (Level 2) have internalized their surrounding’s sense of morality and act accordingly — stage 3 being “I’ll get a good grade in being a person by following the rules” and stage 4 “the rules I learnt are true and real, failing to follow them is Wrong and upholding them is Right” (idem).
People on stages 5 and 6 (Level 3) have a personal sense of morality that is critical of societal norms — stage 5 being “there are rules, and those rules can and should be changed through compromise to be fair to the greatest number”, and stage 6 “unfair rules should not be followed, direct consequences like punishment are irrelevant when it comes to deciding to do what it right” (very, very, very simplified).
If I’m right, the spreadsheet is so much more understandable.
First thing I wanted to do was put numbers on how singular Sam’s results are:
He gets “High” on both Milgram and Asch when the overwhelming tendency is that the higher your other scores are, the more likely you are to get “Low”, and the numbers were, indeed, that among the 49 children who scored “High” on both, 33 were in Piaget’s stage 1, 15 were in stage 2 and only Sam was in stage 3.
The 33 kids who were in stage 1 are the opposite of Sam:
(Abbreviating so it’s easier to compare values but P=Piaget, K=Kohlberg, Ps=Prosocial, S-A=Sally-Anne, U=Ultimatum, EI=Empathy Index)
33K: (P) Stage 1 :: (K) Level 1 :: (Ps) Low :: (S-A) Fail :: (U) Unfair :: (EI) ≥62%
Sam: (P) Stage 3 :: (K) Level 3 :: (Ps) High :: (S-A) Pass :: (U) Fair :: (EI) 98%
So that’s weird. And when I went to filter by Kohlberg levels… absolutely no kid that was on “Level 2” scored High on Milgram and Asche.
In fact, among the 99 kids on Kohlberg Level 2, none got “Low” for prosocial, none got “High” on Milgram, only 2 got “High” on Asch.
And when we read “Level 2 (Conventional Morality) instead of “Stage 2 (Pre-Conventional Morality, what benefits me directly)” we can make sense of this:
“To reason in a conventional way is to judge the morality of actions by comparing them to society's views and expectations. […] Conventional morality is characterized by an acceptance of society's conventions concerning right and wrong. At this level an individual obeys rules and follows society's norms even when there are no consequences for obedience or disobedience. Adherence to rules and conventions is somewhat rigid, however, and a rule's appropriateness or fairness is seldom questioned.” (by Kohlberg himself, from Wikipedia)
Adults can be Level 2, by the way. Adults can even be Level 1. Subjects of the Milgram experiment are displaying peak Level 2 behavior.
“High” on Milgram is “Did not electrocute/Disobeyed”
“High” on Asch is “Did not conform”
GOSH THAT IS SATISFYING
Bonus: the average empathy index is 79,1%, the median is 82% with 116 kids below 82%, 13 kids at 82% and 120 kids above. Of the 116 kids below the median, 11 got “Low” on Milgram. Of the 13 median kids, 3 got “Low” on Milgram. Of the 120 kids above, 91 got “Low”.
If we take the average instead, of the 163 kids more empathetic than the average, 100 got “Low” on Milgram, and 2 got “High”, of the 86 less empathetic than the average, 5 got “Low” and 59 for “High” on Milgram.
So actually here, low empathy is inversely correlated to willingness to hurt if ordered to.
And it makes sense. Low empathy is often associated with anti-social personality disorder, autism, depression — and you know what’s very associated with anti-social personality disorder? Disobedience.
Now I have to make another post about the weird kids in red's names.

is there anything better than making a spreadsheet to track completely useless information
EDIT: HERE'S THE SPREADSHEET I DID IT :D
its a comparison of the eidolons of all honkai star rail characters!
the section for e2 is divided by what eye is being focused on. the section for e3/e4 is divided by which of the two shows the character holding something. the e5 section is divided by what direction the character is facing. the e6 section is focusing on all the specific parts/elements of the e6, and has a lot more sections than the others!
will be updating it with every character that gets released :)
#i did this to see if theres any connections between certain characters having their eidolons be certain ways.#the results?#uhhhhhhh#inconclusive.#roadtrip.system#hsr#honkai star rail#star rail#honkai sr#honkai starrail#honkaistarrail#hsr resources#honkai star rail resources#star rail resources#the spreadsheet#the eidolon spreadsheet

Are you still updating the spreadsheet?
Technically, yes.
But we hadn't realized how far behind we'd gotten.
See my partner in crime does all the spreadsheeting because they found a way to do it better/easier/faster than the way I had been doing, so we split things up - I take care of the blog, they do the spreadsheet annnnnnnd life's been crazy for both of us and i forgot to check in with them and we both really lost track of time - so thanks for the poke!
A bunch got updated today after we got this question, but it is a work in progress as we have entries as far back as October to check over, see which ones are completely new and need adding and which ones just might need an update.
Current Status:
I was told all the easy ones to snag have been taken care of and were added in tonight, (Aka, the posts I reblogged had ALL the relevant information in one handy location) but the ones where we have to follow back and do research before we can properly categorize them for the sheets are still in process.
Sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience!
in the meantime, feel free to send an ask looking for something that's NOT on the sheets yet, and we'll do our best to see if we can find if we have anything like that already on our radar.
#the spreadsheet#looking for events#apologies everyone#we just kinda lost track of time#always feel free to send a poke

help i don’t understand this joke and i’m ashamed to admit it
Buckle up it's storytime! Full spreadsheet/blacklist story below
So back in January 2020 Taylor released a documentary called Miss Americana which can be found on netflix. The moral of the film was essentially "Taylor wants to try harder including being a politically active voice". This was shown off by the song Only The Young being released. Also a whole section on Taylor getting upset about politics. Many people today say "that's not what the movie was about" buuuuuuuut it was literally called Miss Americana okay. During the documentary or around this time Taylor also said she wanted to be held accountable for political stuff.
Back in late May/June 2020 when BLM was occurring, the internet was ablaze obviously and it became a matter of "which celebrity has said what in support?" Taylor had not said anything. She had just released Miss Americana. Swifties were waiting impatiently. On June 2nd, Taylor posted the black square on insta that everyone was posting
This was all she said on the matter all week. Taylor also had been very active on tumblr early covid to like all the mask selfies. She was on May 24th and this was the last post she liked. If you look at it, the user edited it June 4th to ask Taylor to do more. This was VERY controversial. Taylor has never liked a tumblr post since.
Anyways very extreme act but a lot of people agreed with the sentiment. One night a lot of people were like "Taylor really spent all era profiting off of performative activism didnt she?" Taylor wasnt on tumblr anymore. No one was watching our posts so it didn't matter what we said. So a bunch of people were like "I am upset I am changing my url to something not Taylor related." A lot of fans became multifandom right around then. This all pretty much happened on one night. So many people changed their urls so someone was like "let's make a spreadsheet to track the url changes" and posted a link. There were like 40 names on this spreadsheet all from this night.
So someone who had a twitter and tumblr and had gone to a session saw this list. They saw the link and decided to take matters into their own hands. They somehow had Tree's contact info specifically? And they sent her an email with the spreadsheet link to say "all these people hate Taylor. Please make sure none of them ever meet her and are put on the blacklist." Then they tweeted all about how doomed we were because our Taylor "hate" was caught. This was insanely funny so even more people changed their url's just to be on the list. (I myself claimed @blacklistedswiftie ) SO if you ever see someone refer to The Spreadsheet or The Blacklist, this is what they are referring to.

No one tells you when you get a Big Serious Job™ how many fucking abbreviations you’ll be forced to learn.
#or how many abbreviations that you’ll come across that mean something different from what you’ve always known#I stopped reading a requisition to make this post because I read a sentence that was like#‘something something the COR and the contractor POC’#and I stopped like ‘contractor person of color???’ before remembering Point of Contract#also no one at my job tells you what any of this stuff means. they’re just like Morgan can you take care of this DOA?’#and I gotta sit there like Dead on Arrival??? before figuring out it’s a Delegation of Authority spreadsheet

What's worked for me is having The Spreadsheet.
(This tactic works if you can pull off nerd vibes). Basically, what I do is plug in a bunch of semi-bullshit numbers to a spreadsheet, doesn't matter if they're perfect, just, for each job you interview, spitball:
how much would it cost to do this job (literal cost to commute, lunch options, do they make you dress a certain way (that costs money),
what is the salary (make sure to divide it by the number of hours you'd spend ACTUALLY devoted to this job. if its a 9-5 five days a week gig with a two hour total commute, then thats a 50 hour work week)
what is the dollar amount you're willing to value the benefits at (amount of vacation/sick leave, how good is the insurance, etc)
What is the dollar amount you're willing to value the bullshit you think the job would be to perform? (is it filled with exciting people you want to be friends with who have good work life balance? you can set this number negative, otherwise just try to spitball how much you'd hate it) (this number is the EASIEST to tweak if the job leaves you with weird vibes and your gut response it different than what the other numbers say)
THEN, when they give you an offer, you just frown, tell them you'll have to run it through "THE SPREADSHEET" and get back to them.
They'll try to push you for an answer on the spot, but you just shrug helplessly and say you've gotta run the math first and get back to them.
The Spreadsheet itself is just a vague way to put a number value on how much you actually like the job, but the real power is that people just, accept The Spreadsheet is why you're saying to wait and don't know how to pressure you into giving an answer now.
Then, if you don't like the offer, (you can tweak your spreadsheet until it matches your gut, since it's all semi bullshit anyways), you just go back to them and say, "Sorry man, but I ran the numbers and I just don't think your offer offsets the cost I would incur to accept the job".
And then if they want a counter offer, you just say whatever the Spreadsheet gave you. Either they accept it, or, you kinda just mathematically proved their bullshit wouldn't have been worth it.
The Spreadsheet works for me cuz I'm not the most combative person, and fairly easy going, but even *I* fall for "The Spreadsheet" as being a valid reason to not immediately give in.
When I'm in charge of the planet, it will be illegal to make a job posting unless you are actively searching for a candidate.

HEY YOU!
Yeah, you! Are you trans? Do you like reading books? Or watching movies?
Do you like media about trans men/transmasculine characters but don't know where to find it?
That's sooo crazy because I have this little spreadsheet I'm working on where I'm trying to document all media with protagonists/major characters who are FTM or transmasculine.
The spreadsheet currently has 400+ entries spread across the following categories:
Books
Manga
Memoirs and non-fiction
Movies
TV Shows
Graphic novels / Comics
Webcomics
Audio dramas
Books and movies are also sorted by:
Which character is trans (MC, love interest, antagonist, etc)
If the trans character is POC
The trans character's sexuality (Because I saw lots of transhet guys sad about only being able to find gay romances)
If the author/actor is also trans (if we know for sure)
It's free to use, and free to add to as well! Editing permissions are on, and I check on the spreadsheet every now and then to make sure everything is in order and to clean up.
If you know something that isn't on the list, please add it! You don't have to fill in every single column, but fill it to the best of your abilities.
If you don't want to use the big ass long link below, you can also use: bit.ly/FTM-protags
I made this because I want it to be a community resource. So even if you're not a trans guy or transmasculine person, please reblog!
#my gay little thoughts#ftm#trans#transgender#transmasc#transmasculine#trans community#trans writing#trans art#lgbt#lgbtq#trans books#trans movies#lgbt literature#trans literature#trans media#trans resources#trans representation#nonbinary#queer#ftm spreadsheet

trying something new to help some GFMs that are close to being funded reach their goal. tasneem nabil musa is a 14 year-old girl from gaza who was injured in an air strike and needs to evacuate to egypt for medical care. if 500 people reblog this post and all donate $5 (USD), she will reach her goal. if 1000 people reblog this post and half of them donate $5, she will reach her goal. if you can give $5 please do, and if not, sharing will help someone else with five bucks to spare see it.
edit: tasneem's gofundme reached and exceeded its initial goal so the goal amount was raised! please keep helping her and her family out if you can.

so a few days ago I saw this post, and the accompanying tags from @brrmian :
the idea of Cody being simultaneously so cool on the surface and constantly overanalysing every interaction stuck with me so much that I ended up spitting all my thoughts into existence
so
enjoy a brief look into Commander Cody's mind:
#he regularly sends rex updates for his feedback#rex corrects the typos and sends them back without further comment#he's immune to cody's bullshit by now#commander cody#codywan#has anyone else written a spreadsheet-based fanfiction before? it's hard#i love non-traditional creative methods anyway. this was really fun#codywan fic#i guess#i should draw a comic of this

Not to be absolutely unhinged but I think that if I buy enough tiny plastic tubs to continue breaking down every possession I own into discrete categories then eventually I will live in a home where I don't constantly have a large pile of completely miscellaneous nicknacks in the middle of the floor constantly and forever until I die
Current box count is 56
