commenting on fics on ao3 is like. equivalent to voting or jury duty for me. it's my civic responsibility
#I'm not saying I feel obligated to comment on fics I don't like / don't finish / etc#bc no one is obligated to participate in fandom (it's supposed to be fun)#it's like#the social contract to me#engagement in the community deserves engagement in return to maintain the community itself#etc#ok to rb 👍

watching bridgerton and obviously there were a lot of things wrong with the way socializing has worked in the past, but honestly the idea of a "calling hour" is so appealing. office hours for friendship. you can show up unannounced at my home between 1 and 3pm. you must leave by 3pm. I may give you a pastry. lets bring that back
#bridgerton#lauren says things#i know the calling hour is for romantic prospects#(at least in bridgerton)#but there IS something to be said for having social rules! I like it to an extent!#no I don't have a panic disorder rooted in social anxiety why are you asking me that#and tbf one CAN just do this!#but working out social contracts with friends is hard and scary lol

#tumblr won’t let me format the images properly ARRRGH#but anyway I’m obsessed with how deeply their lack of social contract runs#they can just spit venom at each other and then carry on like it never happened#no bad blood no hard feelings#same with when wilson casually told him ‘of course you’re type AB. you take from everybody’#like damn that’s a crazy thing to say to ur bff#but not for these hoes#toxic yaoi at its finest#house md#greg house#gregory house#hilson#james wilson#house/wilson#hatecrimes md

Lol. I rarely check Facebook comments and just found out some guy has been doing some serious trolling under one of my posts (the words 'I want you to suffer' may have been typed), including getting increasingly pissed about how I wasn't responding to said trolling. Also, somebody has been reporting all my current Instagram posts for stuff, which is fine as I wasn't breaking any rules and the content moderators agree, but now I'm wondering whether this is connected. And then I'm wondering if this is an emotionally abusive ex-client having a meltdown. If so, I'm sorry dude, you've already thickened my skin. This can't shake me anymore. (also going semi-viral on Twitter. Best way of realizing people's behaviour is mostly about them and not about you)
#honestly this sort of stuff would have wrecked me when I was starting out#And working for that guy did do a number on me#but mostly I'm very sure now that I never want to be in a position where I cannot turn work down or walk away from a contract#but mostly it has taught me that being kind and understanding is fine but when I need to protect myself I need to protect myself#nevermind I have social media posts to schedule!

don't fucking call me a conservative for thinking that there are things it's rude to do in other people's houses or in public
it's not your fucking house! you're gonna take your fucking shoes off in a movie theater like you live there and other people aren't right there? you're gonna bust a nut while you're someone's GUEST? do you think tiktoks on full volume are fine on the subway too???
if you're sharing space you don't get to solely dictate what constitutes acceptable behavior. it's rude to do shit you'd do in private when you're not IN PRIVATE. "rude" doesn't mean "harmful" or "unforgivable" or "damaging," it just means you disregard other people's comfort level to do what you want instead. if that's a trade off you're willing to make, that's a you-level choice, one i've made multiple times and will make again, because i'm a human person.
the CONSERVATIVE perspective on that would be "this is Immoral and negatively impacting the fabric of society." boning in someone else's house while you're a guest is not that. but it is fucking rude.
#i hate this shit so fucking much#i am HYPERAWARE of the requirements of the social contract because if i wasn't i'd violate it CONSTANTLY#and to a degree that would get me ostracized#yay auties#so any time people are like 'lmao this is so conservative' i'm like WHY DO NT PEOPLE GET TO GET AWAY WITH SHITTING ON THE SOCIAL CONTRACT#WHEN THEY'RE THE ONES THAT *MADE ME LEARN IT INSIDE AND OUT* TO AVOID BEING ISOLATED#don't fucking treat other people's spaces like they're yours. it's very simple.

I have the general rule that I just, don't let myself give a shit about other people's dumbass opinions but I have one pet peeve that I just. Can Not let go of. and it's posts that go
How to write [Minority Group]!
Step 1: Make sure all your characters are exactly like me the op, or are exactly what I like to see in media.
Aside: Anything else is impossible, unrealistic, bigoted and you'll go to hell forever.
Step 2: They also have to use the exact language I do to describe themselves btw, no matter the time period or setting. See the above aside for further explanation.
Step 3: you should never ever even think about the actual mechanics of what makes a trope problematic in its impact in the real world. J ust memorize this list of things that should be banned in all fiction (for being problematic because I don't like them/someone else I agree with said they should be banned)
Step 4: Nuances in identity don't exist <3
#this is specifically about the number of how to write acearos posts that dont recognize people can have motives outside their orientation.#or that demiromantics/demisexuals exist#They are also always Really particular about how its unrealistic for aro characters to be anything other than disgusted by romance#Hi im an ace aro who fucks often and adores romance#as like a genre and form of social performance#I like sex because I like attention thats socially simple and doesn't require the upkeep of a relationship#I like romance because im a human person who doesn't think every story has to be about me to be interesting.#I like new experiences and seeing the world from other perspectives i like the pagentry of dates andnthe aesthetics of love.#Whether im loveless or not is an ongoing question because my ability to process my own emotions is zilch.#Maybe im incapable of love (the chemialcal reaction) but still chose to love (the social contract)#its not unrealistic for people tobe different from you#it just Frustrates me to no end when folk try to define anyone who shares their lable but arnt like them out of existence.

does anyone know where i might find a post about how post-apocalyptic scavenging stories, specifically noting the last of us and the walking dead, are fundamentally reflective of a fear of homelessness. i know i saw one when the tlou series was first releasing but i cannot for the life of me think of where to find it
#talkyllama#the last of us#the walking dead#tlou#tlou hbo#it's for school jsdfhj we're analyzing emplacement and positionality wrt imagination of the future#and reading octavia butler's parable of the sower which i think gives a really interestingly different point of view from other such storie#where society collapses entirely#because stores still function and you still have to spend money to buy things there. in that dystopia. which is not the case in these other#other stories#which is why i think parable of the sower may have a more compelling and more realistic depiction of homelessness as an issue of enduring a#an apocalypse. cus what do you do when it's just YOUR society that has collapsed? and the rest of civilization (ie grocery stores etc) are#still functioning and still expecting you to function as if the social contract still stands#so. if anyone could point me toward this post im thinking of thatd be gorgeous lmao

listen if we brat summer our way out of fascism I'll fuckin take it
#ravi rants#historically speaking the best way to shut down asshats that violate the social contract of tolerance is to mock them#idk man maybe I have a different perspective on all of this because I'm part of the desi diaspora#but like.... so Indians won't always obviously call out violations of social decorum#if you're making an idiot of yourself or you're making a scene. other people will stand by and let you do it.#my therapist and I talk about me coming from a high-context Asianic cultural background like I do a lot actually#because the thing about Indian decorum is that. like.#one. you protect yours. if your friend is actively intervening in on something there's a reason and it might be helpful#but two. if someone's breaking decorum.... we allow them to do so in order to figure out why.#if someone's ex is crashing a wedding and successfully gets the floor they'll get heard out#and everyone will be paying attention#because the thing is those kinds of overt violations of decorum usually happen for a reason....#Indian soap operas are A Lot™ but listen. a party might be the right time to call someone out on being abusive or manipulative#because the whistleblower can be escorted away to safety by them and theirs.#and usually you have to be able to know enough decorum to get to the point where you make a scene#and Indians respect the hustle. we'll hear you out.#the Hindu gods are notorious for being like 'alright smart guy. here's your wish.'#the gods will readily admit if they've been outwitted#but you're an idiot if you think you'll get away with fucking with the natural chaos of samsara and karma forever :)#however. there's also Hindu parables of asuras and dumbass humans realizing they fucked up and taking the L with grace#and the gods respect that#but lol. fascists aren't respectful.#Richard Spencer shut the fuck up after we all saw him get punched#conservatives are having a mental breakdown over being called weird while insisting that a cis woman is a man#and I'd like to remind everyone that the social role of a court jester is to keep everyone humble#bc dude. if you're getting butthurt over the clown ribbing you. maybe calm the fuck down? look in the mirror?#you may be a king but the larger the seat you hold#the better your toilet plumbing should be

of the 5 houses that surround my backyard, 3 have dogs. the next door doodle (A) is very polite and will only bark at me once before curiously watching me water the garden. their direct backyard neighbors have one dog (B) that doesn't bark at me, and a tiny one (C) that does, but it's so small that it's not very loud and B will ignore it.
the kitty-corner house on the other side, however, also has 2 dogs, but BOTH of them bark at me relentlessly. one (D) at least is mellowing out, relatively speaking, but it's huge, so it's LOUD. the other (E) is a border collie and my gosh. my goodness. can it get a dang chill pill once in a while. i have to water some plants right near the fence and E is barking at full volume right into my ears. AND it smells bad.
and if D and E are barking at me, then B starts barking at them, so i've got 4 dogs barking at once while A is visibly straining out of desire to join them. but A won't bark until i leave. thank you, doggy A.
#i really like B too because it got out once and it clearly wasn't trying to run away so much as it thought it was playing a fun game#i was neutral on E because it's a high energy dog y'know? then i smelled it. rude AND stinky.#while i was watering next to the fence with E staring me down i suddenly became very aware of how low their fence is#and how athletic border collies are#so i was there watering plants and hoping that E would maintain the social contract of keeping the fence between us (it did)

This is a PSA for you all because this was a real shit week for me.
Sometimes you're going to have a shit morning that turns into a shit day that turns into a shit week that ends in just a helping pie of disappointment, and the best thing you can do for yourself when that happens is have a little cry and move into the next week on as clean a slate as you can.
Because for many of us out there with mental health issues, our mind constantly tells us that we are no good. That we're too loud and take up too much space. That our friends hate us, and we would be better off keeping to our own corners.
Our brains are wrong. They are always wrong. You do more damage than good trying to tuck yourself away from everything that might hurt you. I don't know if any of you needed to hear that, but I sure did, especially as someone who usually prides themselves on being unflappable.
Here's to better weeks, my friends ❤️
#And I swear to Mahal if I catch the one Anon in my inbox who keeps sending me hate#We're going to have a long talk about what it means to break the social contract#mental health#bad week#bad day#I'm meeting Andy Sirkis tomorrow so that's already a better start to a week

I didn't expect studying MBA level economics would suddenly make me madly interested in politics. It's like the only thing I've ever read/considered that has given politics the contextual layer and reality to make it real and interesting to me.
#macroeconomics is the interplay between policy and tested/documented free market response#but the people voting-in politicians based on platform (policy approach) have no economic background#and the politicians themselves only very rarely have economic backgrounds#plus you then have to balance this issue that whatever happens with policy OR market has delayed reactions and within that time lag#people's quality of life is impacted#it all suddenly starts to click into place as a 4d model in my head#usually this only happens with me with legal contracts (they are 100% 4d models in my head the way clause interplays work and only trigger#under certain circumstances)#anyway i have been fascinated with this unit in a way i did not expect to be#avoided all kinds of social sciences in school (i was all hard science calculus and literature only)#(makes the architecture route my odd form of rebellion i suppose)#assignment submitted. now I have a break for a few days then into exam mode.
