August ended with a subduing breeze and autumn unhurriedly arrives. Like the indigo shadows of the bare beginnings of branches, waving. Like specks of gold gradually crowding our mirrors of puddles, till we lose sight of ourselves. Cold fingers reach out to us—but warm, forever still, is the sun. Promise me, that when the fall does make it to us, you'll stay besides me, celebrating the sleepy conclusion of all living things.

A pat on the head that eventually turns into ruffling his hair. Temari almost crying the first time Gaara initiates a hug. Kankuro feeling amused when Gaara pushes back when he elbows him instead of feeling fear. Gaara learning to accept and appreciate casual touches from those close to him.

Temari: Oi! Come out of there already! I need to get ready for my date with Shikamaru!

Kankuro, from inside: I’m sure you look fine, sis. And anyway that Nara guy walks around half-asleep all the time anyway; he wouldn’t notice if you walked up with two heads and six arms.

Temari: I still need to do my makeup! OPEN UP!!

*Kankuro slowly opens the door and puts his head down trying to walk past Temari, but she catches him and jerks his head up*

Temari: Is that … DID YOU USE MY LIPSTICK AS FACEPAINT AGAIN?!

Kankuro: Awwww, don’t make such a big deal, sis! You have a thousand of ‘em!

Temari: *squishing his face between her fingers* And it looks like you used every single one of them. You may as well just hand your wallet to me now because you’re gonna pay for this!

Kankuro: Hey, we’re siblings! We’re supposed to be able to share with each other! What happened to love and togetherness?!

Temari: My fist is about to get together with your face! You —

*Gaara comes in, loaded with papers*

Gaara: Can you two please keep it down? I’ve got a lot to get through tonight and some peace and quiet would be appreciated.

Temari:

Temari: Are. You. Wearing. My. Eyeliner??

Gaara:

Temari: You know what? This is my fault. Clearly I’ve been spending too much time with Shikamaru and not enough with my dear little brothers, and now they’re acting out to get my attention.

Temari: *puts an arm around each of her siblings shoulders* Tonight, I’m going to stay home with the two of you. And I’m going to put enough color on your face so that neither of you need reach for my makeup ever again.

Kankuro: W-what do you mean by —

Temari: *cracks knuckles and grins*

*the next night, at the dinner table*

Shikamaru: Thanks for inviting me, Temari. It’s nice to get to spend time with you AND your family. But … Gaara, what happened to your face? Did you have an accident?

Gaara, putting a hand to the bruise on his face: Y-yeah. Accident.

Kankuro, coming in with the dessert and squinting through his two black eyes: A big accident.

We’ve reached the end of our ‘Best Trio Poll’ and what a roller coaster that was. Some trio’s made it into the semi-finals that i didn’t expect to see past round one, and our most submitted trio surprisingly got ejected round one

(Ambassador Rauru never meant to get attached to the twin chieftains. The one that becomes the Demon King accuses him of forgetting his own history— the other, concerned with her people’s safety, bitterly capitulates to Hyrule’s demands.

Perhaps a kinder peace could have been achieved, if only Rauru chased after Ganondorf like Naborus on that fateful day. It didn’t matter, in the end. Time has ground every decision into indistinguishable dust, until all that’s left is echoes and ghosts.)
