A Birthday to Remember: Rekindling Love for Katsumi's Sake ♡
Tumblr media
{One shot} Bakugo Katsuki X Female Reader
Summary: You guys share a now four-year-old daughter named Katsumi. You and Katsuki have been divorced for two years, and you usually see each other when it involves your daughter. You guys usually fight often, and that's what also led you guys to divorce. Now, today is your daughter's fourth birthday party. Would this be any different from all the other events?
----------------------------------✧༺♥༻∞----------------------------------
Today was Katsumi's fourth birthday. I dressed her in a pretty, sparkly pink princess dress. I tied her spikey blonde hair into two cute pigtails, with two sparkly pink bows keeping them in place. Katsumi had the same appearance as Katsuki, but her attitude was just like mine. I woke up early and set everything up for her. Her birthday theme was Candy-land. God, that girl loves sugar.
I rented a private park for her birthday party. So she could play with her friends and enjoy herself. She was too young for an arcade, but next year i’ll take her. I had set up all the balloons. They were shaped into candies, and the letter balloons spelled her name. I had set three long tables together and put a pink, blue, and purple cloth on all three tables on top to add a covering. Soon the tables were filled with sweets and delicious food. I had made goodie bags the night before stuffing them with candy, slime, bracelets, and anything a little kid would love I set all the goodie bags on display for her friends to come to enjoy.
Soon all the friends Katsumi had invited and their parents had came to. They had placed gifts in the gift piles, and Katsumi ran with the other kids to play around. Katsuki still hasn’t showed up and it’s been 20 minutes since the party started. I was talking to Kirishima, Mina, and Denki, as we sat down at the food table watching our kids from afar.
“Is Bakugo coming?”, Kirishima asked.
I perked up at his words,’ I hope so. Katsumi will be very upset if he doesn’t, but yet again he’s always late to important days like this”, I said in an annoyed tone.
Mina chimmed in and rubbed my arm, “He’s the number one hero now… so I don’t think he misses or comes late on purpose”.
“Yeah I get that, but he's a father now. He can’t do this at every event..”, I looked at all of them and my anger brushed off slightly.
All three of them could feel the tension in the air, and decided to drop the topic of Katsuki for now. As I was just starting to calm down, there was a car that pulled up. And speaking of the devil it’s none other than Katsuki himself. He steps out wearing his finest attire and coming towards us. I looked at them and then at the others and sighed. I walk over to Katsumi, who’s playing with her friends.
“Katsumi Honey! Daddy is here!”, I yell for katsumi.
I had the fact that I was angry at him for her and gave her a smile. She looks back at me and gets off the swings and starts running to Katsuki who is now with Kirishima and the other’s. Katsuki hears her little feet running towards him and he smiles. When she reaches him, he bends down and picks her up.
“Happy birthday homey, sorry i’m late, did you save me some of momma’s yummy cupcakes she made?”, Katsuki smiles at Katsumi.
Katsumi nods and cuddles into his arms, “Of course Daddy!”.
I stare at them as I make my way back over. Katsuki is lucky she's young, or else she would retaliate against him. Katsuki and Katsumi make their way over to the table, and they both start devouring cupcakes. They’re both messy eaters, and I can't help but giggle. Kirishima, Mina, and Denki start looking at me and smirking.
Katsuki lets Katsumi go play, as he walks over to us. He can tell something is in the air as he looks at me.
“What's wrong?”, Katsuki asks.
“Katsuki, you show up late or miss every single important event of her life!. Thats whats wrong”, I give him a glare crossing my arms at him.
Katsuki’s face relaxes and he lets out a deep breath, “Relax, I’m sorry, i had to take out some villains at the last minute. I can’t just walk away from that. I could loose my title.”
I balled my hands into fist and my face started to twitch.
“You care more about some dumb hero title more than your daughter!? Is that it Katsuki huh!?”, I yelled.
Katsuki’s face changes and he gives me a stern look and crosses his arms.
“No! I love our daughter, you’re always trying to paint me as a bad person. I am an amazing father, but I am also the number one hero. Something you would never understand YN. You are like a leech. I do everything for our daughter and give everything to you for her!, and all you do is nag me!”, Katsuki yells back and gets closer to me.
Katsumi and everyone start looking. She starts to run over to us. Mine and his body language change when she comes over. The party guests fell silent when Katsumi came over and tugged on her father's pants.
“Daddy, stop yelling at momma…”, Katsumi said quietly, her eyes filling with tears.
Katsuki. Your heart sank at your daughter's words. Katsuki took a deep breath and calmed down for their daughter.
“I’m sorry baby, I got upset and shouldn’t have yelled, can you forgive Daddy?” Katsuki gave her a reassuring smile and picked her up while running his hands through her spiky blonde hair.
Katsumi gave him a warm smile back and hugged his neck tightly, “Of course, I can… just stop being mad at momma.”
He rubbed her back softly, “I won’t be honey. Come on, let’s go have some ice cream.”
Katsumi’s smile beamed and she nodded her head quickly. Katsuki set her down and she ran over to the table near the ice cream station.
Katsuki looked over at you and sighed, “Look, lets just pretend none of this happened and get along, for her birthday.”
I nodded and respected what he said. It was our daughter’s birthday, we shouldn’t ruin it for her. The guests finally started to talk amongst themselves again. Mina was cheering me up, and calm down from the former argument. As the party resumed, they spent the next while helping their daughter open her presents. Katsuki gave her a little kiss on the cheek as she blew out her birthday candles and got the first slice of cake.
After a while he would get approached by multiple moms who would introduce themselves. A few were bluntly flirting with him, and he would laugh and flirt back. His cocky self loved the praise the women would give him, especially for being the number one hero.
I glared over to him and the moms surrounding them. Flirting at my daughter’s birthday party, with my ex-husband? I was not gonna have that. I walked over to the group, and they all went silent including Katsuki. The annoyed expression on my face filled up the tension around the mom and they slowly one by one walked away. Katsuki was looking a bit annoyed himself.
“What is your deal today?”, He pulled her arm and led her away from the party.
“Nothing, I just don’t wanna see flirting or anything like that at OUR daughter’s birthday party”, I crossed my arms.
“Oh please, you only interfered because you got jealous” " he scoffed.
“I am not jealous”, She looked away from him.
“You are and you can’t even look me in the face and say it. Y’know one day we’re gonna have to actually talk instead of arguing, and talk about our relationship or we will keep fighting and eventually ruin both our relationship with our daughter. Do you want that?”, His voice was stern and expression was serious.
“No, I don’t”, I sighed and crossed my arms.
“Good. Look I hate being late and missing stuff, but I'm doing this for you and our daughter. Hell if I'm going to be honest you're the reason why i'm number one. I still love you, even though our marriage was rocky, I only wanted to better myself after our divorce. And i did it for you. You know that to. You know i still love you, and yet you're to stubborn to cave in and let your guard down and say “Katsuki, im still in love wit you”, because i know you still are..”, He paused, and his gaze was soft.
“It’s never been about the attraction or the sex, i’ve always, always loved you. So much. So why can’t you finally admit you love me still huh?”, He sounded frustrated but his voice held a hint of sadness.
“Because.. I don’t want a fucked up marriage again. I don’t wanna fight every day like we used to..”, My voice was vulnerable.
“Everyone fights. We fight because we’re both stubborn. I know i can be stupid sometimes, and i’ve made mistakes, and i will keep making mistakes because that's what people do. But that doesn’t change what i feel for you. Whenever you make a mistake or get upset, and we fight, that never stopped me from loving you.”, Katsuki cups my face and rubs his thumb across it.
“You know deep down, that you feel the same way. You want me to hold you, kiss you, and comfort you, and love you. But your to stubborn to admit it. I’m stubborn just as much but i can admit that i love you.”, Katuski looks lovingly into my eyes.
“I do love you. I thought a divorce was best because we just kept fighting and it was becoming so much and i didn’t want our daughter to go through that…”, I look up at him.
“I know, i know. We were just stressed and made a dumb mistake. But we both love each other and our daughter. We’re in this together so we have to make this work no matter what. Now stop being stubborn and let’s take things slow and get back together”, Katsuki tucks a loose hair behind my ear.
“Okay, let’s give it a go. No more hurting each other. Lets communicate, and work this time”, I smile softly at him.
“Okay. I love you…”, Katsuki says, as he leans in and gives me a sweet passionate slow kiss.
I can feel his love through the slow kiss. The kiss i’ve been yearning for since he left. The distant feeling felt familiar once again. His touch burned into my memory. I love him, and he loves me. He breaks the kiss, and looks down at me. The softest look he’s given me in a while.
I break the silence, and look up at him. “I love you to, Katsuki".

Demon Brothers as Single Fathers
What if the brothers already had a kid when MC first appeared in the Devildom?
Characters: demon brothers, gn! kid and gn! MC
Part 2
Masterlist
CW: lesson 16, death during childbirth mentioned, but there's nothing explicit. Some brothers are better fathers than others, but they all love their kid with a passion. Romantic interest towards MC at the end
.
Lucifer
There´s no way he’s having a kid with a random woman. I already posted a headcanon regarding demonic pregnancies, stating them as difficult, so my guess here is that he had a long-term relationship and his partner died during childbirth.
Of course, he’d cope with her death just like he coped with Lilith’s: hiding his feelings. He had his sister’s room hidden in the House of Lamentation without any of his brothers knowing, so it makes sense that he’d hide everything regarding his former partner from everyone, including his child.
Now, don’t get me wrong, he loves that kid, but he is who he is. A strict parent that wants his family to be perfect, obedient and loyal to Lord Diavolo. His child might get an obvious special treatment, but they still have to reach their father’s standards.
All of that, mixed with the load of paperwork he has to take care of on the daily, makes bonding time very limited.
When MC arrives, he makes sure they know not to bother the kid, his threats visible to anyone with eyes.
We know MC, however. They meddle and they become friends with most of the brothers very easily, so it’s understandable that the kid wants to get close to them too.
Lucifer tries really hard to break that friendship, not trusting MC at all, but the more effort he puts in that task, the more effort his kid puts in disobeying him. And we all know Satan is helping them just to anger Lucifer.
It all reaches an end when MC frees Belphie from the attic.
The kid doesn’t understand the situation, why their new friend is all bruised and bloody on the floor and why their uncle is laughing in such evil way.
Lucifer only gets how much his kid loves the human when he sees their distraught over MC’s death and their tears of relief when MC reappears in perfect conditions.
Time passes and the family is whole again, granting the kid a new feeling of happiness and comfort they’ve never felt before. Lucifer feels obligated to rethink the situation when he sees that.
Then comes the last day of MC’s stay at the Devildom and he knows he’ll regret not showing his desire of deepening their relationship before they leave.
His kid and his brothers are not the only ones that need MC anymore.
Mammon
I kind of imagine him having a child with a one-night stand, to be honest. For the sake of this fic, the other parent is not in the picture, but Mammon loves kids, so there’s no doubt he’d keep his own.
And oh, how much he spoils them. He saves money just for them. Does he go right back into bankruptcy after that? Yes, but the intention is there, you know.
I also think the brothers would use the child to blackmail him, like “you’re such a scumbag, Mammon, you’re going to disappoint the kid”. A dick move, but they are assholes to Mammon most of the time.
And then comes MC, rocking Mammon’s world and, by extent, the child’s.
No matter how old the kid is, they can sense their father’s love towards the human. It’s almost painful to see and it brings so much second hand embarrassment, but Mammon’s happiness makes everything worth it.
Especially when MC starts to defend Mammon from his brothers’ insults.
The kid promotes themselves from child to matchmaker.
They spoil their uncles' plans with MC so they can spend time with their father, boasting Mammon’s confidence and telling MC how good he is and how good of a couple they’d make.
At first MC thinks it’s pure childhood innocence, not suspecting the kid is acting on ulterior motives, but Mammon knows what his kid is doing.
He tries to defend his status as too good to be interested in a mere human, let alone date them. Of course, the child sees right through his bullshit.
No one stands a chance against his little hellspawn, not even him.
Suffice to say, MC and Mammon establish their relationship long before the year ends.
Leviathan
I love Levi, I truly do, but c’mon guys. I doubt he has any friends outside the online world, let alone a partner; we can all agree he’s a virgin. So, for him to have a child, I think he would’ve had to be either really lucky or unlucky (depending on how you see it), meaning that his brothers took him out of his comfort zone so he could lose his virginity and he left that one girl pregnant.
I think the mother wouldn’t have wanted to be in a relationship with him, leaving him more reclusive than ever. He needed his brothers’ help to lose his virginity and now not even the mother of his child wanted to stay with him? Yeah, he’s not leaving his room ever again.
It’s difficult for him to bond with the kid at the beginning due to the lack of knowledge on how to take care of a child and the kid being born out of a loveless meaningless one-night stand.
He watches and buys anything family-related, finally understanding that the way he became a father doesn’t have to influence their relationship, so he steps up really quick.
Don’t worry, the brothers offer their help the whole time.
They spend most of the time in his room, bonding over anime, manga, videogames and cosplay, especially about TSL. He also forces himself to get out of his room more often for the sake of his kid, even if it’s minimal.
He still distrusts MC when they arrive, not paying them any attention, but he has to reconsider a little bit when he sees the kid so interested in them.
The whole TSL quiz happens and he’s surprised to see not only Mammon and Beel helped MC, but his child too. He feels betrayed and irrationally mad at all of them for an hour or less, just until the kid insists on MC’s genuine interest on TSL and convinces him to give them a chance.
After that, their friendship develops quicker than anyone could've ever anticipated, as well as Levi’s crush on MC.
Another kid that evolves into a matchmaker, although their methods are more dramatic due to being based on anime and manga.
The rest of the brothers have a lot of fun witnessing the whole thing.
Satan
My man has contacts, he knows people all around the kingdom, he fucks. I’m not sure if the child came out of a long-term relationship or a one-night stand, but his contacts definitely have something to do with it.
His whole mission is to treat his child better than Lucifer ever treated him.
No baby voice at all, what nonsense is that? When he reads to them at night he uses different voices according to each character, same as when they play.
The type of parent that wants to respect his kid so much he kind of treats them like an adult. Full conversations and everything. More like monologues, actually, but Satan is patient enough to wait for his kid’s answer, even if it’s a babble.
Cats everywhere. Toys, clothes, bedsheets… You know the drill.
Overall, Satan puts his whole heart into his child’s development.
And when MC arrives, he’s only curious about them because Lucifer is on edge. He’d prefer if his child was left to their own devices, living their life in peace with no human bothering them for no reason.
Then he swaps bodies with Lucifer.
Boy oh boy.
The moment he sees his child running to his brother instead of him, he’s spitting fire. MC intervenes just when the kid starts to get scared, something he’s extremely grateful for.
After the pact is made, both him and the kid see MC in a completely different light, but he doesn’t think about taking them out on a date until his child trips and falls while playing in the garden.
MC tends to them, dries their tears and cleans their bloody knees before using some cute bandaids on them. Cat-themed bandaids.
How could he say no to that?
Asmodeus
One-night stand one-night stand one-night stand one-night stand.
One-night stand? YES.
I’m surprise he doesn’t have a legion of children, Hercules style, but oh well, what do I know.
I like to think the mother tried to stay, but Asmo is a certified narcissist who loves spending time with himself and who’d also love the idea of having a mini him running around, ready to try new clothes on every opportunity and match him.
It’d be difficult to stay in a family like that, with a partner that monopolizes the child’s time so selfishly. It’s bad, but I could understand if the mother chose to leave. I don’t even know if Asmo would care, given that it was a one-night stand with no feelings involved, and he’d probably believe himself to be enough.
Asmo is as dirty minded as ever and he still has various relationships, but he tries to tone down really hard, at least in front of his kid.
They’re partners in crime above all, their chemistry is insane. ‘Don’t talk to me or my son ever again’ type of relationship.
Although the kid doesn’t have Asmo’s charming powers, they’re cunning. Doe eyed with a shiny glare and a brilliant smile, who could say no to them? Sometimes they even fool their own father.
Both of them are pretty superficial, but kind-hearted at the bottom of their hearts. It just takes some time and effort to see that.
The kid treats MC the same way Asmo does, although they have no ill intent, they just want to be like their father. So when Asmo starts to show some interest in MC, pursuing a friendship, so does his child.
Partners in crime, remember? It doesn’t take long for the child to act coy and cute, turning MC’s interest to Asmo. Again, no charm nor manipulation, but a little help from an innocent hand never hurts anyone, does it?
Beelzebub
I don’t have a single idea where the child came from, but if there’s something I’m sure of it’s that they’re each other’s best friend.
Beel takes them everywhere, in his arms, strapped to his chest or sitting on his shoulders, he doesn’t care, but they’re together all the time.
Scared to his very core of losing them, but tries not to be overbearing, trusting his brothers to take care of them when he can’t, mostly Lucifer and Belphie.
They're the most important reason to control himself, Beel feels guilty when he lets loose and scares his child. Seeing your father eat a column can’t be pleasant, after all.
Another one that ignores MC when they get there, preferring spending time with his child. Now more than ever, since Belphie apparently went to the human realm as an exchange student.
When he breaks MC’s wall and they’re forced to share his room, he’s introduced to the dilemma of whether letting them sleep in Belphie’s bed while he shares his own with his kid or letting them sleep in his bed, with his kid in Belphie’s and him on the floor.
He’s very reluctant to let anyone but his twin sleep in the other bed. His nightmares lessen when he shares his space with the child as well, so Beel’s very conflicted.
MC offers to be the one sleeping on the floor, something he immediately refuses, so he finally agrees to let them both sleep in his bed while he’s on the floor.
He doesn’t sleep that night.
It isn’t until MC defends him from his own brother that he starts to think of them as a true friend. He trusts them with his kid and he even feels okay leaving them alone while he’s out doing his own things.
Days after MC goes back to sleeping in their room, his child confides in him how much they miss having the human with them and Beel can’t help but agree.
He asks for his child’s permission before taking MC out on a date.
Belphegor
Had the child with a situationship, but the mother thought he would be too absent to be a good father. She tried to leave with the kid, but Belphie insisted on keeping them. Being one of the Avatars of the Devildom, he had the upper hand.
As much as he tries to be present, he can’t help but fall asleep most of the day, so Beel takes the role of second father. Still, Belphie wants to be in the same room as his kid all the time, even when unconscious.
He’s able to enter other people’s dreams, so his favourite way of bonding is at night, interrupting his child’s nightmares and transforming them into beautiful dreams where they can do whatever they want to do.
He even made versions of Lilith and Beel for them to be together during those dreams.
Kind of entitled, to be honest.
Belphie is a brat and so is his kid, but the child at least has the benefit of the doubt.
When Lucifer imprisons him he’s ready to destroy the house. The only way he can talk to his kid now is through dreams and even then he isn’t sure what to tell them. In the end he decides to let the kid be, but he’s always on edge, trapped, not knowing what’s happening until everyone goes to bed.
MC’s presence feels like a gift. A pathetic gift, but a gift nonetheless.
He asks about his kid and he seethes when MC tells him they’re becoming friends, how much they like spending time with the child.
He focuses so much on revenge that he doesn’t even realize what the kid could think of him if he carried along with his plans; how they could feel when all of it is done.
Killing MC is satisfying and leaves him wanting so much more.
That look from his child, his own blood, takes it all away.
Why are they crying? Why are they hiding away from him? Trying to reach MC’s corpse despite Lucifer’s words or Beel’s grabbing hands, screaming in terror when uncle Mammon doesn’t answer their questions.
Then MC reappears, looking as perfect as ever, and Belphie is overwhelmed with relief, convinced that maybe his kid will stop looking at him that way.
But that doesn’t happen.
He sleeps with Beel that night, feeling lonelier than ever, hands aching and reaching for a smaller body that isn't there. He can’t find them in their dreams when he falls asleep and when morning arrives and he goes to the bathroom, he makes sure there’s no blood under his fingernails.
It takes days before his kid can even look at him without that angry pout on their face. They tell him they’ve been sleeping with MC, listening to their advice so they can mend their relationship with him.
Ever since then, Belphie can’t help but blush whenever MC is in the room.

Leaving out how shitty of person Sakura is and how she literally never grows up. She was nasty at 8, nasty at 16, and continued to be nasty in her 30s when she became a parent...
People who genuinely don't like Sakura aren't sitting there disparaging her body, hair, or forehead. They're calling into question how her one goal in life was to become the wife of a boy she continued to disrespect for years. How she didn't take her job seriously and put her team in danger because of it, despite no one forcing her to become a ninja. How she continues to treat her own friends and even her daughter terribly.
Emotions?
You mean where she consistently invaded someone's personal space, refused to take NO for an answer, and then made his trauma about her contrived feelings?
Or how she invalidates everyone else's feelings in favor of her own and manipulates even her child's father, so he won't learn the truth of her behavior at home?
Ideals?
You mean the obsession with her looks and not training until Sasuke and Naruto almost die in front of her?
Or how even after that she didn't start taking things seriously until Sasuke left?
Or what about when all her character growth vanished because she got the chance to see Sasuke again and just stopped being helpful in the canon story and went back to being selfish and rude?
Dreams & Goals?
You mean the desire to be Sasuke's wife regardless of how many times he's pushed her away, told her she was annoying, and avoided her?
Or how her obsession with him was so intense she had to try and guilt trip him in the middle of a war for the sake of the world, into confessing non-existent love to her all because SHE claimed to love him?
Or how she was so attached to being an Uchiha wife that she wears his mon like a badge of honor on all of her clothes when he can't even force himself to wear it or even return to the village to see her and his kid.
Relationships?
You mean where she got the guy in the end, but still decided to be a sob story who did everything alone and then complained about getting no help?
You mean where she was hoping with everything in her being, that her new teammate would insult her supposed best friend too so she would be just as hurt?
Or is it how her obsession with a guy was so intense that she drugged her entire team and left them unconscious in enemy territory just so she could go off to see him to 'kill him' but still needed her drugged teammate to come and save her from being killed by him instead?
Or what about when she broke off her first ever friendship over her obsession simply because of hearsay?
Or what about when she taped her picture over the picture of her husband's friend, and then got angry because her daughter found out and dared to ask questions about it, so she threw a super punch at the space by her kid's feet and took the whole house down in the process?
Or what about that time where she was heavenly pregnant and decided to charge into a very dangerous situation, all for the sake of pride and not being left in her teammate's shadows as usual, and then literally put herself and her unborn child at risk?
Abilities & Strengths?
You mean how her stans try to act like she's surpassed her master by 17, and is better than every other woman in the series when she keeps getting curb-stomped and still needs to be saved by everyone else?
Like, no one is arguing that she hasn't improved as a ninja, cuz it's pretty damn obvious she did, but when y'all sit there being like, 'she's a goddess and Hinata sucks!' are you really being truthful? The enhanced punches aren't helping her all that much so all she's got is healing and even then, she's still not the best at it by adulthood. And she hasn't exactly made a name for herself as she never got out of her teammate's shadows... because she wasn't serious when it mattered.
Y'all brag about how 'Sakura won' when comparing her marriage to Ino's as if Ino isn't in a happy relationship. As if Ino doesn't have a good family unit and that Sai isn't a good father. Sasuke won't come back to the village and only talks to Naruto. Sasuke has never kissed Sakura but HAS kissed Naruto and a Dinosaur of all things. Sasuke didn't even know what his daughter looked like when he met her. When Sakura got stabbed while standing beside him, he didn't care, but when it happened to Naruto he asked after Naruto's well-being. Sakura got the guy she always salivated over, but she didn't actually win anything.
Your consistent need to degrade Hinata and Ino as characters to 'prove' that Sakura is somehow better than them, is also sus. Objectively, they have more character growth and better motivations, and while they might not be super strong and can't punch a house to smithereens in a tantrum, they're far better characters and have better relationships with the people in their lives.
But yeah. People not liking SH for all of these things that make up her character, means they are misogynists.

Note
DAI Companions reactions to repeatedly being mistaken for a young/teen Inquisitor's parent or older sibling.
Cassandra: At times it feels like she is, and yet it is never something the seeker begrudges. This young person has stepped into a role no one their age should have to fulfill, and with so many relying on them to save the world at least one person should be standing in the role of guardian and protector of their interests. She only wishes it could be her sole priority.
And if, in quiet moments, to have a sibling again is a balm then it a truth no one else need know.
Varric: He was a lousy brother, though is was not as if Bertrand was winning any awards either. But he never really understood the pressures his older brother was under until stepping into part of that role— and Varric never had the strain of ailing mother or the loss of Orzammar on his shoulders. No, he is not sibling material.
But no father could be prouder of a child than he is, watching their young leader stitch the world back together. Kid needs looking after, and Varric Tethras is honored in the burden.
Solas: If the Inquisitor is elven, no matter his plans for the future, the rift mage feels a sort of obligatory kinship to the da’len so far from clan or kin. Children have always been precious, especially to the Elvhen who did not conceive so easily as humans.
For any other inquisitor he does not correct those who make the mistake, and will turn it into a familiar joke later that the herald must be the most attractive of thei species to be mistaken for an elf. It hides how little he cares for the comparison.
Kin slaying is a terrible crime. Best not to build the relationship from the start.
Blackwall: In another life Thom Rainier had scorend the idea of children, and taken pains to ensure that his dalliances would not conceive a bastard he had no intention of claiming. Now his family name is hardly worth the claiming, and he is grateful his only sister took her husband’s name long ago and is free of his legacy.
But as a warden, true or otherwise, Blackwall is honored by such a comparison. If his presence has had any small benefit to the young person upon whom such a task is laid then he is honored by the comparison. And while he would be the first to argue that no one is better off in his care or keeping, Blackwall would be the first to lay down his life to protect theirs, and will do everything he can to make sure they are well.
Vivienne: For the sake of his grown children- and the wife who had done her duty in the bearing- Bastian could not have given her a child. Even if he could have protected it from the clawing hands of the Circle, whose laws had forbidden such a gift. To be a mother was not in her future, and in her youth Vivienne had taken steps to ensure such an accidental fate could never befall her.
But she could have been. In the quiet moments through out the years she had imagined how such a child might grow, might flourish under the love and guidance of two parents who so deeply wanted it. And while the Inquisitor is neither replacement nor surrogate for that dream, in this young person Madame de Fer can see a reflection of what might have been.
If she takes care to guard their appearance, coach their behavior and prepare them as best she can for the great game, it is easily couched in the truth that it benefits the Inquisition to do so. The truth of her affection is hidden away, no further burden on shoulders already heavy with titles and too few years.
But she can dream.
Sera: When she does think about her childhood, the few times it has to be examined, Sera would not have minded another small person to have run about with. It might have made the lessons and the lies less lonely, to know someone else was there to ride through it with.
But there wasn’t. And she didn’t. And she likes the Inquisitor, is happy to have them as both friend and Friend. But family is a sore spot in the tapestry of her life, and adding patches to warped thread does not fix the faulty loom.
Dorian: It is the worst nightmare of most high born alti, that one’s parents might conceive a second child to rival them for the familiar seat in the magisterium. Never a risk for Halward and Aquinea, whose duties to each other and the marriage bed ended w it the birth of a living and magically inclined son.
And yet Dorian would not have minded a younger Pavus knocking about when he had been a boy, someone to share the duties and adventures of Minrathious in those few years before duty locked away simpler pleasures. But when he is first mistaken for the Inquisitor’s father, first mistakenly assigned that guardianship and all it brings?
It staggers him, how deeply the role could fit. For all that their creation is anathema to them, Dorian Pavus would never scorn a child of his blood. Of any blood, in truth. If their herald is young enough and without guardianship, without a future once Corypheus is defeated…
It is a thought for later.
The Iron Bull: Where is the lie? Was he any less worthy of the imereki than those who had left them behind? The feelings that well up when the mistaken role is given do not surprise him, and Bull is perhaps the easiest of any besides Cassandra with taking on that burden. The Chargers are his family, and if they survive the Storm Coast the little Herald is gathered up into that fold without question.
And even with one eye he can see the second Dorian accepts and even relishes the idea. The Iron Bull didn’t come South looking for a family, but one may well be within his grasp regardless.
Cole: “Shared name, shared memories, tied together by all the things that matter. Even when we don’t agree there is still love and trust, striving for something greater than we are. Yes! We are a family. That makes sense.”

*********
As the ship got closer to Storybrooke, Hook noticed Emma frequently glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. When the lights of the town appeared on the horizon, he saw her draw in a deep breath, turn, and walk toward the steps leading to the helm. Slowly climbing them, she looked up and met his gaze.
“Is there something I can help you with, Love?” he asked.
“I was just wondering…what do you plan to do, now that you killed Gold?”
He chuckled lowly. “I’ve been wondering that myself.”
“Technically, you’re still under arrest. Now we’ll have to add escaping from jail to your charges.”
Hook reached up and scratched behind his ear. “Probably another assault charge, too.”
She widened her stance and crossed her arms. “What did you do?”
“I may have knocked your father unconscious with a pry bar.”
Rubbing her forehead in irritation, Emma sighed, “You’re a walking menace, you know that?”
“I couldn’t just sit in that concrete brig, while you were off by yourself with the bloody Dark One.”
Her eyes shot up. “You broke out of jail because you thought you had to save me?”
He dipped his head in a slight nod. “Aye.”
“Why?” she asked, disbelievingly.
“I knew what the crocodile was capable of doing. He would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. Even though he needed you to help him navigate his way to his son, you were disposable once you found him.”
“You think he would have killed me? Knowing I had a son waiting for me back in Storybrooke?”
“He killed Milah knowing she had a son. Why would you be any different?” He watched her mull over her question. When she didn’t say anything else, he asked, “Do you think Baelfire will stay in Storybrooke?”
She shrugged indifferently. “I don’t know.”
“Do you wish for him to stay?”
“I don’t, but if Henry does, I guess I’ll have to accept it. First, I have to figure out a way to tell Henry about him, though.”
“You haven’t told him about his father?”
Her face scrunched into a grimace, something that Hook found to be quite adorable. “I sort of lied to him about Neal. I told him his dad was a firefighter who died saving people from a burning building.”
“Why did you do that?”
“Because I didn’t think there was a chance in hell I would ever see Neal again. And also because I didn’t want my kid to know his father was a lying thief who abandoned me.”
Hook glanced at Bae, still sitting beside his father’s body. He was glowering at them and Hook wondered if he had heard what Emma said, or was simply angry seeing Emma talking to him.
“The lad seems to be quite adaptable. I’m sure once he hears the whole story, he’ll understand.”
“I hope so,” Emma sighed. “The thing is, it’s already complicated enough trying to juggle his time between me and Regina. If Neal is added to the mix, I’ll get to see Henry even less.”
“He does have a right to see the boy, though, doesn’t he?”
“Yeah. It’s not like Neal abandoned him, too. He didn’t know I was pregnant when he took off.”
“You don’t think that the two of you, for the boy’s sake…”
“Not a chance!” Emma snapped. “Look, a lot has changed since Neal and I were together. I’ve matured and I’m assuming he has, too. But the only feelings I have for him are…well, they aren’t anything close to love, let’s put it that way.”
Hook nodded, trying to keep the happiness he felt about her declaration from showing on his face.
“I don’t know why I’m telling you all of this,” she said. “I guess I just needed to blow off some steam, and you happened to be available.”
“I’m very happy to oblige, Swan,” Hook assured her.
Emma shifted her gaze forward and saw they were rapidly approaching Storybrooke. “If you want to sail away once we get Gold’s body off the ship, I won’t stop you,” she said conspiratorially.
“Why, Sheriff, do you intend to set your prisoner free?” he asked, a teasing lilt to his voice.
“I’m just saying that since you don’t have any reason to stay in Storybrooke…”
“Ah, but I do have a reason, Love.”
Emma’s brow furrowed. “You do?”
“You promised to join me for dinner, remember?”
Her mouth dropped open. “Are you telling me you would give up your chance at freedom just to keep our deal?”
“A gentleman keeps his word, and as I told you atop the beanstalk, I’m always a gentleman.”
“You know I’ll have to lock you up as soon as you step foot off this ship.”
“And you know I won’t stay in that cell.”
“Seriously?”
“Pirate,” he said smugly.
“Are you going to dock the ship, Hook, or are you two going to keep making eyes at each other and let it crash into the pier?” Baelfire asked, his tone venomous.
“We don’t make eyes,” Emma said, rolling hers.
“Coulda fooled me,” he grumbled.
Hook began giving directions to the two of them, as he guided the ship into a berth. Emma was quick to follow, but Bae purposely lagged, earning him some sharp words from the captain.
Once the ship was tied off, Emma pulled out her phone. “I’m calling my dad. Hopefully, he can arrange transportation for Gold’s body as quietly as possible. I don’t want Belle to find out about his death until I get a chance to tell her.”
Hook and Bae stood on either side of her as she spoke to her father. When she ended the call, she looked from one to the other. “Are you going with me to talk to Belle?” she asked Neal.
“I thought you were going to take me to meet our son.”
“Not tonight. It’s late and he’ll be in bed.”
“But I…”
Emma angrily planted her hands on her hips. “Neal, if you want to meet him, you’re playing by my rules, got it?”
He stared at her for a few moments before dropping his eyes. “Fine. I’ll come with you to talk to Belle and wait until tomorrow to meet Henry.”
Pivoting to face Hook, she said, “You can stay on your ship tonight. If you’re still here tomorrow, I’ll deal with you then.”
“I look forward to it, Love,” he smirked.
If the look Baelfire gave him could kill, there would have been another body joining Gold’s on the deck.
*********
Hook lay in his bunk, staring at the ceiling of his cabin and replaying the events of the day. It should have been the most satisfying day in his long life. Milah’s murderer was finally dead and the darkness was permanently dispelled. Milah was avenged, her soul could rest. For the first time in hundreds of years, he should be able to sleep peacefully.
Then why was he so restless?
Oddly enough, the stabbing of Rumplestiltskin and his subsequent death weren’t foremost in his thoughts. It was his interactions with Emma Swan - every word, gesture and facial expression - which were keeping him awake. She was under his skin and he didn’t know what to do about it.
He felt guilty about the direction of his thoughts. Ever since that most horrible of days, he mourned his Milah and promised anew that he would love her until the day he finally died. Sometimes he sought female companionship, but it was only ever for a single night, never with the same woman twice, and never on his ship. He didn’t want to besmirch the love he and Milah had for one another by bringing another into their bed. Now, he was lying here, his mind filled with images of a lass whom he longed to know better and whose heart he had decided to win.
“I’m sorry, Milah,” he whispered into the darkness.
Knowing sleep was going to continue to elude him, he sat up and swung his legs over the side of the bed. Grabbing his flask off of the nightstand, he took a healthy swig and savored the familiar burn down his throat. Then he got up and lit the lantern on his desk. If he couldn’t sleep, he might as well read.
He gave up after ten minutes. Sighing, he slammed the book closed, then donned his leather duster and ascended the ladder. He walked the decks of the Jolly Roger, rubbing non-existent smudges from her highly polished railings, double checking that her sails were folded correctly, and trying to convince himself that she was the only love he needed in his life.
The problem was, his heart wasn’t listening to logic.
Sleep didn’t come until an hour before daybreak. Thankfully, he didn’t enter REM sleep, so he wasn’t able to determine which woman would appear to him in his dreams.
*********
It was almost noon when Emma made it back to his ship. “Still here, I see,” she called up to him from where she stood on the pier.
“I assured you I wasn’t going to leave.”
She eyed him critically. “Are you alright? You look like hell.”
“Why, thank you very much, Swan. How kind of you to notice.”
“I thought you would be the happiest person on Earth, now that you’ve finally gotten your revenge.”
He shrugged. “Perhaps the day was too stimulating to allow me to sleep well.” Seeing her about to speak again, he cut in. “Where is Baelfire this morning?”
Emma closed her eyes and shook her head disgustedly. “I already regret bringing him here. He’s driving me crazy, asking to meet Henry.”
“You haven’t introduced the two of them yet, I take it?”
“No. Henry was at Regina’s last night and was off to school before I woke up this morning. Neal thinks I should pull him out of school. I keep telling him I want the chance to talk to Henry first, but he’s really pushing it. I managed to sneak away from him while he and Belle were making arrangements to bury Gold.”
While she was talking, Hook was making his way down the gangplank to stand in front of her. “I have no doubt you will stand your ground against him, Love.”
“I know. It’s just…things were good between me and Henry since Mary Margaret and I got back to Storybrooke. Now I have to tell him I lied to him and I’m afraid he’s going to hate me.”
Hook’s mind flashed to Baelfire’s reaction when he discovered the drawing of Milah in the captain’s quarters. His words were full of hatred and betrayal. To this day, he hadn’t forgiven him. Hook certainly hoped Henry wouldn’t react the same way.
Hoping to divert Emma’s worries, he asked, “How did Belle take the news last night?”
“Just as you would expect; she’s devastated. She was relieved to know that Gold found his son before he died. We didn’t tell her Neal was furious with his father for killing his mother and refused to forgive him. I’m assuming Belle didn’t know Gold’s role in Milah’s death.”
“Do you think if she did, she would have ever become involved with the bloody demon?”
“No, probably not. Belle tries to find the best in everyone, but hearing that bit of news might have been too much for even her.”
“You told her the, uh, the circumstances of his death?”
“Yeah. Let’s just say you’re definitely not her favorite person. She’s still recovering from the gunshot wound you gave her and now you killed her boyfriend.”
Hook grimaced. Thinking of the Dark One as someone’s ‘boyfriend’ turned his stomach. Not wanting to think about Rumplestiltskin anymore, he changed the subject. “To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit this morning, Swan?”
“I have to take you back to jail. Everyone in town knows you’ve returned. Letting you go free after you shot someone isn’t going to sit well with them.”
“Even though I rid your fair town and the world of the Dark One’s power?”
“The people in town don’t know that yet. Belle isn’t planning to tell them until after Gold is buried. I’m sure the news will leak out soon. Until then, I don’t want Leroy running around town yelling, ‘Killer on the loose! Killer on the loose!’”
Reaching around behind her back, she extracted handcuffs and held them up between them.
“Again?” Hook sighed. “You’re really into this, aren’t you?”
“Standard procedure,” she explained. “Hand and hook behind your back.”
With a dramatic display of reluctance, he did as told. They walked down the pier and onto the beach, then over to the squad car in a moment of deja vu.
On the way to the sheriff’s station, Hook asked, “How is your father, Swan?”
“He has a headache and a good sized lump on his head, but he’ll be fine. You’re not his favorite person, either. In fact, you don’t have many people on your side in this town, which is why I figured you would take the opportunity to leave when I offered it to you.”
“There’s only one person I wish to have on my side, Love. I couldn’t care less about anyone else.”
She glanced at him in the rearview mirror. “You’re really adamant about having that dinner with me, aren’t you?”
“I would never have allowed the bloody crocodile aboard my ship if you hadn’t agreed to that. I fully intend to collect what is owed to me.”
“You might have to settle for Granny’s takeout in your cell, while I eat at my desk.”
“I believe the deal was dinner on my ship.”
“Yeah, well, you might be locked up for quite a while, depending on what Regina says.”
“What does Regina have to do with it?”
Emma pulled up to the station, put the car in park and turned it off. Twisting in her seat, she said, “We don’t have a court system in Storybrooke, so the mayor decides on punishment for crimes. That’s the way she set it up during the curse and we never changed it. Considering the fact you killed her mother, I doubt Regina will be lenient toward you.”
“Regina and I had…an understanding before the curse was cast. I’m sure she will consider that.”
“What sort of understanding?” Emma asked.
Hook leaned forward, putting his face close to the divider between the front and back seat. “Let’s just say we also had a deal. It took a while, but I finally kept my end of it.”
Emma’s eyes widened. “You made a deal with Regina to kill her mother?”
“The two of them never had what you might call a close mother-daughter relationship.”
“Just when I thought I heard it all,” Emma mumbled, unbuckling her seat belt and opening the car door.
After releasing him from the back seat, she walked him into the station, her hand gripping his elbow. Upon entering the main area, David rose from the desk, strode across the room and punched Hook in the face.
“Dad!” Emma yelled.
“That’s for the last time we met,” David said, shaking his hand slightly.
Hook licked his bloodied lip before replying, “I thought you might be a bit more genial, considering I brought your daughter home safely.”
“You knocked all the genial out of me when you hit me with that crowbar.”
Emma led Hook across the room, removed the cuffs, unlocked the cell and gestured for him to enter. Dabbing at his lip, he walked in, winking at her as he passed. It might have been his imagination, but he thought he detected the hint of a smile on her face.
She slammed the door closed, then turned as an afterthought. “I almost forgot. Give me your hook.”
“If you want to hold something, Love, I have a perfectly good hand,” he offered slyly, holding up his hand and wiggling his fingers.
She huffed, but he saw the corners of her mouth turn up again. “Just hand over the hook, funny guy.” As he twisted the hook out of the brace, she added, “And while you’re at it, give me whatever you used to pick the lock last time.”
“I thought you didn’t care if I escaped and sailed away, Swan.”
“You said you wouldn’t leave until I kept my part of the bargain.”
“Ah, yes, our dinner together,” he said, glancing toward David as he said it. His reaction to Hook’s statement didn’t disappoint.
“Your what?” he shouted.
“Calm down, Dad,” Emma said, rolling her eyes. “I had to make a deal with him so he would agree to bring Gold back to Storybrooke. It’s just dinner.”
“On my ship,” Hook contributed.
“On his ship?!”
Emma threw Hook a frustrated glare, before turning to her father. “I’ll say it again - it’s just dinner. And it’s probably not going to happen anytime soon. Regina will have to decide what to do with him. In fact, I need to go to her office to bring her up to speed.”
David checked his watch. “I’m supposed to be over at the cemetery in ten minutes to guard against anyone going in while they’re burying Gold.”
Emma sighed. “We probably shouldn’t leave Hook alone. Can you get Leroy to come over and keep an eye on him again?”
“Is that really necessary?” Hook asked.
David narrowed his eyes at Hook for several seconds before picking up the phone.
Turning back to Hook, Emma stated, “Guess that answers your question. Now, hand it over.”
With a dramatic sigh, he passed his hook through the bars into her waiting hand. She accepted it, then held up her other hand. He threw her his most charming smile, but she just tilted her head and speared him with another meaningful glare. Reluctantly, he reached into his pocket and removed the long hairpin.
As she accepted it, she asked, “Why do you have this thing, anyway?”
“As you can imagine, managing all of these buttons one-handed is quite difficult, so I use that to help pull them through the buttonholes.”
“I think you missed a few,” she murmured.
“Ah, so you’ve noticed,” he cheeked.
She turned away, but not before Hook saw the blush that colored her cheeks. With a satisfied smirk, he crossed the cell and took a seat on the cot.
David left before Leroy arrived, giving Hook some time alone with Emma. “Do you have a preference of what to eat for our dinner together, Swan?”
“You’re awfully presumptuous, thinking you’ll be out of jail anytime soon.”
“I did Regina a favor by killing Rumplestiltskin. I have a feeling she’s going to take that into consideration when she decides my fate.”
“People in town love and respect Belle. They won’t be happy if you get off scot-free for shooting her.”
Hook scuffed his boots back and forth on the floor. “I do feel bad for shooting the lass. I’m glad I only wounded her.”
“At least you’re remorseful,” Emma remarked.
Before Hook could respond, Leroy burst into the office. “I’m here, Sister,” he blustered. Walking straight up to the bars of the cell, he spouted, “No funny business. I’m watching you, Pirate.”
Hook stood and sauntered over to stand in front of him, “Yes, Dwarf. That should deter me from any malfeasance.”
“I don’t know how long I’ll be gone,” Emma said.
Leroy and Hook continued glaring at each other for several seconds, until Leroy broke eye contact to say, “Charming didn’t tell me why he isn’t able to be here. Is he out on a call?”
Emma and Hook exchanged a quick look. “Um, yeah. Something like that,” Emma mumbled vaguely.
“Well, as long as one of you is back by dinner time. Granny will run out of bacon for my burger if I get there too late.”
“It looks like you could afford to forgo dinner now and then,” Hook muttered.
“Behave yourself, Hook,” Emma cut in before Leroy got a chance to respond.
After she left, Leroy sat down and began swiveling in the chair, keeping an eye on Hook. “So, I’m assuming you followed Sheriff Swan to New York after you knocked out her father?”
“You must be the smart dwarf,” Hook said, resuming his spot on the cot.
“Then how are the two of you back, but there’s no sign of Gold? Did you leave him in New York?”
“I have no idea of the Dark One’s location.” He wasn’t technically lying. The darkness dissipated, but he didn’t know where it went.
Leroy crossed his arms over his chest. “You expect me to believe that?”
Hook shrugged. “It makes me no difference what you believe. I went to New York to ensure Swan’s safety and as you can see, I accomplished that objective.”
Leroy leaned forward, narrowing his eyes. “Are you sweet on the sheriff?”
Hook very deliberately laid down and turned toward the wall, his back facing the dwarf.
“Because if you are, you’re never going to get her,” Leroy continued. “Her parents and most of the town won’t allow it. She’s too good for the likes of you, Pirate.”
Hook closed his eyes, trying to go to sleep so he wouldn’t have to listen to the grumpy man any longer. It didn’t work. Even though Leroy stopped talking, the last words he said kept replaying themselves over and over in Hook’s mind.
She’s too good for the likes of you, Pirate.
*********
Word of Gold’s death did indeed leak out, and soon the entire town was aware that they were free of the Dark One forever. Besides expressing their condolences to Belle, they didn’t show any signs of sadness over his loss.
Neal was greeted with trepidation. Granny reluctantly offered him a room at the boarding house and reassured the townspeople that she would keep an eye on him. If he showed any inkling of being like his father, she wouldn’t hesitate to use her crossbow.
Regina stopped in at the sheriff’s station the day after the ship arrived back from New York. After telling David she needed to speak to Hook privately, she stepped in front of his cell and glared at him through the bars.
“Your Majesty,” he drawled. “Or should I say ‘Madam Mayor’?”
“Is it true you’re responsible for my mother’s death, Hook?”
“Where did you hear that?”
“Word gets around. Now answer the question.”
“Aye, Love. I finally carried out your noble request.”
“Once the curse was cast, the request was null and void.”
“I wasn’t made aware of any alteration in plans or any changes in your feelings toward your mother. Just because I didn’t do it when you initially sent me to do so, the result is still the same. Now don’t try to tell me you grieve her passing, or that you would have welcomed her to Storybrooke with open arms.”
Regina’s mouth tightened into a straight line before she answered, “You know I didn’t want her here.”
He gave a slight nod. “That’s correct, so I did you a favor. And another by killing Gold. I’d say you owe me, Your Majesty.”
“I suppose you think I should give you some huge reward,” she growled. “What’s your price, Hook?”
He rose from the cot and slowly moved to stand in front of her. “My freedom will do nicely.”
Regina’s perfectly groomed eyebrows raised in surprise. “That’s all you want? That doesn’t sound like the greedy pirate I know.”
He shrugged nonchalantly. “My life’s goal has been met. I have enough doubloons to last me for another three hundred years. What more could I possibly need?”
She crossed her arms and studied him. “If I grant your freedom, I assume you will leave town.”
“Never assume anything.”
“Why would you stay?”
Hook studied his fingernails. “I don’t believe my plans are any of your business.”
“I’m the mayor of Storybrooke. Everything is my business.”
He narrowed his eyes. “You might control your townspeople, but…”
“I brought lunch, Hook.” He looked over Regina’s shoulder to see Emma coming into the room, holding a brown paper bag aloft.
Regina heaved an exaggerated sigh and turned to look over her shoulder. “Didn’t your idiot father tell you I wanted to speak to Hook without being interrupted?”
“I haven’t seen David,” Emma replied coolly. “I’ve been out on patrol all morning. I’m happy to report no one is breaking any laws.”
“No one except him,” Regina said, jerking her head towards Hook.
Emma set the bag of food on the desk. “Well, he’s locked up, so I don’t think we’ll have to worry about him.”
“Apparently he broke out once before and he’s a pirate. Locking him up doesn’t guarantee he won’t break out.”
“He doesn’t have any reason to break out this time, do you, Hook?”
“Alas, no. All of my objectives have been met.”
“I still don’t trust him,” Regina said.
“You needn’t worry, Madam Mayor. Your sheriff is quite efficient,” Hook said. “She particularly enjoys using her handcuffs on me, don’t you Swan?”
He was satisfied to see her cheeks turn pink. She changed the subject by asking, “Have you decided on his punishment yet?”
“Perhaps she’ll sentence me to house arrest with you. Do you have a spare bed? If not, I’m willing to share.”
Regina looked back and forth between them, her mouth set in a firm line. “Miss Swan, if you don’t mind, I haven't finished speaking with your boyfriend.”
Hook suppressed a chuckle, as Emma’s mouth dropped open. “My boyfriend? Hook? What’s your problem, Regina?”
“My problem,” Regina spat, “is that you’re impeding my job.”
“Fine,” Emma shot back. “I’ll be in the other room, eating lunch. When you finally finish your job, let me know.” Picking up the sack, she turned on her heel and went into the small inner office, slamming the door behind her.
Seeing her stand up to Regina filled Hook with pride and more than a little desire. Emma Swan was fiery and fierce, just the way he liked his women.
With effort, he turned his attention back to Regina. She was drumming the manicured fingernails of her right hand on her left bicep. “I’m willing to bet one of your reasons for remaining in Storybrooke involves Miss Swan.”
“I would have never guessed you were one for gambling, Your Majesty.”
She glared at him as Hook stared back at her unflinchingly, plastering a bored look on his face. After nearly a minute, she called loudly, “Sheriff Swan, come out here!”
Emma emerged, chewing and rubbing her hands on her jeans. “You bellowed?”
“I do not bellow,” Regina remarked snarkily. “I’ve come to a decision about this prisoner. He needs to be punished for the attempt he made on Ms. French’s life. Therefore, I sentence him to one month in jail. By that time, maybe he’ll be ready to board his ship, sail away and be some other realm’s problem.”
With that, she spun around and walked out the door, heels clicking on the cement floor.
Emma watched her go, then turned to face Hook. “Looks like you’re going to be our guest for a while longer.”
“Aye, but at least my jailer is a welcome sight to behold.”
“You told me you won’t stay in this cell. Do I need to make sure someone is here to watch you around the clock? Because I’ll be damned if I’m going to chase you down every other day.”
“As tempting as it is to have you running after me, I give you my word as a gentleman that I will not escape.”
She narrowed her eyes as she studied him to detect any trace of deceit. Finding none, she said, “Don’t make me regret trusting you, Hook.”
He wrapped his hand around the bars of the cell. “You’re going to take my advice and try something new, eh Swan?”
Hooking her thumbs in the back pockets of her jeans, she shrugged. “You went all the way to New York to make sure I was safe, and didn’t leave when I gave you the chance. I guess you’ve earned my trust.”
Hood couldn’t keep the grin off of his face. The fact that she trusted him was definitely a step in the right direction toward winning her heart. He reached through the bars and twisted a lock of her hair around his finger, enjoying the silky feel of it against his calloused skin. “I’m very happy to hear that, Love.”
She was just opening her mouth to reply, when Baelfire entered the room. Hook’s eyes shifted to the other man, causing Emma to look over her shoulder. As soon as she saw Neal, she stiffened.
Bae stopped short when he saw how close the couple was standing. Then he saw that Hook had a lock of Emma’s hair wrapped around his finger and his face turned crimson.
“What’s going on here, Ems?” he blustered.
“Nothing,” she answered tightly.
“Doesn’t look that way to me. Looks like the fucking pirate is trying to seduce you, just like he did my mother.”
“Give it a rest, Neal. He’s behind bars and that’s where he has to stay for a month.”
“A month?” he shouted. “That’s all he gets for killing my father?”
“Actually,” Hook began, “that sentence is for shooting Belle French. Regina felt I did the town a favor by ridding it of the Dark One.”
“What the fuck? You’re just going to get away with murder?” Neal raged.
“Oh, come on, Neal,” Emma groaned. “You’re the one who said to just let your dad die. Now you want to act like the grieving son? I don’t buy it.”
He walked over to stand in front of the cell, looking back and forth between Hook and Emma. Hook untangled his finger from her hair and pulled his hand back. As much as he wanted to smirk at the angry man, he decided it was best not to add fuel to the fire. He didn’t want to put Emma in an even more uncomfortable position.
Bae turned his back toward Hook and tried to step between Emma and the bars. “Isn't it about time for Henry to come home from school, Ems?”
She heaved a sigh and turned to look at the clock on the wall. “School lets out in half-an-hour. Once my dad gets back to the station, I’ll leave to go pick Henry up.”
“Cool. I’ll come with you.”
Emma folded her arms over her chest and fixed him with a fierce scowl. Hook was quite happy not to be on the receiving end of it. “No, you will not. I’ve already told you that I need to talk to Henry first. I want to prepare him to meet you.”
“What’s there to prepare? You just say, ‘Henry, this is your father.’ What’s so hard about that?”
“For fuck’s sake, Neal! He thinks his father is dead!”
“Why the hell would he think that?” Neal yelled.
“Because that’s what I told him! I said you were a firefighter who died as a hero…”
Neal leaned forward until his face was mere inches away from hers. “What the fuck, Emma? Why would you do something so idiotic?”
Emma didn’t back away from him as she spoke through gritted teeth. “Would you rather I told him that his dad was a thief and a liar who abandoned me and let me go to jail for a crime he committed?”
When Hook saw Neal grasp Emma’s arms, he had enough. “Let go of her, Bae!” he demanded, reaching through the bars to grab the other man’s jacket.
“Stay out of this, Hook!” Baelfire shouted, jerking away from Hook’s grip, letting go of Emma at the same time. “She’s not yours to protect!”
“She’s not yours, either!” Hook shot back.
“That’s enough!” Emma exclaimed. “Neal, you need to leave. After I’ve had a chance to talk to Henry, I’ll call you. That is, if he wants to meet you today. If he needs more time to process everything, that’s what he’ll get. And you will agree to it, or you won’t meet him at all. Is that clear?”
“I came all this way and he’s my son. You can’t keep me from seeing him.”
“I can and I will if you don’t back off. Go back to your room at the boarding house and wait for me to call.”
Hook watched carefully to see what Baelfire would do next. If he continued to defy and bully Emma, Hook would find some way to get out of the cell and go to her aid.
After several more moments of glowering at Emma, Bae finally stomped out of the office, nearly running into David, who was on his way in.
“What’s wrong with him?” he asked.
“He’s demanding to see Henry and I’m making him wait. I need to talk to Henry first.”
David took off his jacket and hung it over the back of a chair. “I can understand his impatience. He just found out he has a son; it’s only natural to be anxious to meet him.”
“You’re taking his side?” Emma asked.
“I didn’t realize you two are on opposite sides. I thought you were, um…”
Emma’s eyes widened. “Do you think we’re together?”
“Well, you do have a child together and you just found each other again after so many years.”
She put her hands on her hips. “If I had my way, I would have never seen him again.”
David’s jaw dropped. “But Mary Margaret and I thought the two of you…”
“Well, you thought wrong!” she spouted, then angrily grabbed her keys and pushed past him.
He stood rooted to the spot, staring at the door through which she just disappeared. Almost to himself, he murmured, “I’m so confused. Why wouldn’t she want to…”
“Be with Baelfire?” Hook interrupted. “Have you ever asked your daughter about the father of her child?”
David turned around, the look on his face making it clear the answer to Hook’s question was ‘no’. Instead, he said, “That’s none of your business.”
“Perhaps not, but Emma did share with me what happened between them, and let’s just say she has good reason not to want to be with him.”
“Why would she tell you and not her mother and I?”
Hook shrugged. “I think she felt a bit…trapped by the whole situation of him coming to Storybrooke and she wanted to share her side of the story with someone. I just happened to be available.”
“Did he hurt her?”
“Not physically, but that’s all I’m going to say. It’s not my story to tell.”
David eyed him critically for several seconds, then stepped closer to the cell. “Let me give you a bit of advice, Hook. She’s never gonna like you.”
“Is that so?”
“Well, how could she? You’re nothing but a pirate.” With those words, he spun on his heel and walked away.
The cocky smirk on Hook’s face faded as he watched David go. For the second time in two days, he had been told that Emma Swan would never be with him because he wasn’t good enough for her. The one consolation he had was that neither time, it was Emma who said it. He would have to cling to the hope that she didn’t feel the same way.
*********
Hook didn’t expect to see Emma any more that day, so when she came into the station soon after he finished eating the meal Granny provided, he was pleasantly surprised. However, seeing the agitated state she was in, his pleasure soon turned to concern.
“I thought I was finishing out this shift,” David said.
“I know, but I figured you would want to spend the evening with Mary Margaret, and since Henry is staying at Regina’s…”
“What? Why is he doing that? I thought you were introducing him to Neal.”
“Yeah, well, let’s just say things didn’t go as planned,” she said sadly.
“Emma, if you need to…”
“Look, Dad,” she sighed, “I really don’t want to talk about it right now. I’ll be home in a couple of hours, okay? Maybe by then, I’ll be ready to tell you what happened.”
Hook thought David was going to argue with her, but after a few moments, he blew out a heavy sigh and said, “Okay. I’ll see you at home. Be careful.” After kissing her forehead, he gave Hook a warning look, then left.
Emma dropped into a chair, threw her head back and groaned.
“Alright there, Swan?” Hook asked.
She was motionless for so long, he thought she wasn’t going to answer. Finally, she sat up and put her head in her hands. “Not really. Henry is very pissed at me for lying to him. He had no interest in meeting Neal and insisted on going to Regina’s because he doesn’t want to be around me. Then when I called Neal, he went off on me, saying it was all my fault his son refused to meet him.”
“I’m sorry, Love.”
She didn’t reply. He felt helpless seeing her sitting there, looking so defeated.
When she finally stood up, she paced back and forth in front of his cell. “Why did I ever think I could do this? I know nothing about being a mom. I probably screwed him up for life. First I gave him away, then I lied to him about his father…”
“Emma, stop,” Hook said firmly.
She stood still, looking at him with tear-filled eyes. “It’s true.”
“No, it’s not. It sounds to me like you made a very courageous decision by giving him up for adoption. Bae abandoned you and left you with very little choice. As far as telling him Baelfire was dead, you had no idea Henry would have a chance to meet him someday. You wanted to spare him the pain of knowing his father was a bloody coward, just like his own father before him. In my opinion, there was nothing wrong with telling Henry he was a hero. It was far kinder than the truth.”
“He was so angry,” she whispered hoarsely. “He may never forgive me.”
Hook’s heart ached for her. “Come here, Love,” he said softly, stretching his hand out through the bars.
She shook her head, wiping at her eyes. “It’s okay. I’m fine.”
“Emma, look at me,” he coaxed.
Slowly, she raised her eyes. Even more slowly, she reached forward to place her hand in his. He gave a little tug to pull her closer. When she was near enough, he attempted to put his arms around her, frustrated that the cell bars were between them.
“This is stupid,” she said, turning her back and walking away. He almost groaned in frustration, until he realized she was pulling a set of keys out of the desk drawer. She approached the cell again, hesitating briefly before unlocking the door. After swinging it open, she stood uncertainly, shifting from foot to foot.
Hook stepped through the doorway and into her space. Locking eyes with her, he silently asked permission and upon receiving it, gently pulled her into his arms.
At first, her body was stiff and unyielding, but as he rubbed his hand and wrist up and down her back, she gradually relaxed and let him comfort her. “You’re a good mother, Emma. Henry knows that, and he will forgive you.”
“How can you be so sure?” she mumbled into his chest.
“Because I know first-hand how hard it is to stay away from you.” He heard her scoff lightly, but she didn’t say anything. He didn’t know how long she let him hold her, but he relished every second.
Finally pulling away from him, she said, “Thank you, Hook.”
Using his finger to lift her chin, he looked into her beautiful jade eyes and requested, “Will you please call me Killian, Love?”
She blinked, then gave him a small smile. “Okay…Killian.”

Thank you for reading! The final chapter is probably about half written, so hopefully it won't be as long a wait for it.

I actually really love ur interpretation of farcille where falin and marcille have a... Difficult time together. Because it annoys me when people treat their relationship like the most important one and also like they're completely perfect for each other. Because they're not! The bath scene itself is an example of how they're not completely on the same page yet. Marcille treats Falin like a precious toy to look over, even when she's clearly uncomfortable, and when Falin starts asking questions (because she knows something is up), Marcille shuts it down. Marcille doesn't treat Falin as an equal. Also the bits in the daydream hour where it implies Marcille wants Falin to dress a certain way or cut her hair a certain way because it looks good to Marcille.
Not to say that Marcille is evil, or even completely in the wrong. I think Falin has a bit of a bad trait where she doesn't talk about things that upset the ones she loves. There was an extra comic, if I remember correctly, from Falin and Marcille's school days, about Falin bringing food to Marcille's room and Marcille would just be like "??? What???" And eventually Falin just stops going to Marcille's room. But then later Laois explains that Falin was trying to get Marcille to eat with her, but eventually gave up without speaking about it at all. Or how she did drop the topic of her resurrection even though she knew something was wrong and deserved to know what was going on. And while she was under the influence of the dungeons magic, it's pretty in character of her to go hungry and not say anything because someone she loved (Thistle in that moment) wanted her food.
And that's not even getting into how many fans erase how important Laois is to BOTH of them and how much he loves them as well. (Marcille was definitely not his biggest fan in the beginning, but I think you could make the argument that by the end, she cherishes him almost, if not just as, much as she cherishes Falin. Not even in a shippy way)
Anyway. All this to say, I love farcille but they're not a perfect couple right now. I actually really like that ending you imagined a while ago where they never put a label on things and falin dies old and happy but Marcille keeps thinking of "what could have been". I think that's really the only way their relationship can end (unless they COMMUNICATE in the case of Falin and LISTEN in the case of Marcille)
here's the scene you mentioned!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i think theres a scene in a different chapter showing more of this but i cant remember lol so im not sure if falin stopped or not. but considering how falin grew up as a conveniently good kid for her parents i think it's in-character for her to give up in fear of bothering marcille
which is in line with chimera falin's attitude (WHICH IS SO COOL THAT HER CORE AS A PERSON REMAINS UNCHANGED DESPITE THE DUNGEON'S INFLUENCE)
and yes i think a lot about how laios is the reason they even go on the dangerous quest to save falin! he is what convinced marcille and chilchuck it's not too late for her! because they know hes knowledgeable about monsters, so if he thinks they can still save her then it must be possible! on the contrary, as shown by the official roleswap comic where falin and laios swapped places, she couldn't convince the party, not even marcille, to go save laios with her. further showing that laios is the person they trust as their leader
also regarding marcille and laios i think people sometimes forget that despite their difference branch of passions both of them are hungry for knowledge
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hell, she might be the only one in the party beside laios who is in it for the sake of knowledge instead of glory and wealth (toshiro is in it to prove himself as a warrior, namari having to make up for her father's misdeed, chilchuck for the betterment of his people, and falin who is still at the stage of following laios and marcille's whims)
honestly i think it's inevitable for The Most Popular Ship to be sandpapered. in the end, shipping is about having fun with barbie dolls that have no agency to protest about how theyre being treated and we the shippers are gods ruling over fanon
but im also. kinda petty about it lol.

Din Djarin & Hunter: The Rhyming of Two Star Wars Dads (Analysis)
Din Djarin (The Mandalorian) and Hunter (Star Wars: The Bad Batch) are two Star Wars characters who both end up becoming a primary caretaker for, and ultimately adopting, a child in need. Their journeys share even more similarities than what meets the eye, telling a tale of love, loss, and eventual peace for each of them.
Both stories begin with Din and Hunter at their status quo. For Din, this is a lone life of bounty hunting, providing for his hidden Mandalorian tribe. He's good at what he does, and he seems to enjoy it. He's made a name for himself as "the best in the parsec" and he's proud of that reputation.
For Hunter, this is leading his squad to a 100% success rate during the Clone Wars. He's often described affectionately as a "frat boy" in this era for his behavior, which sees him acting much like an adrenaline junkie who truly enjoys the rush of battle and action. He enjoys the fact that the Bad Batch's reputation precedes them.
Then, both men come across a child. (Ironically, it's revealed that these children are both technically older than Din and Hunter, which is a fascinating similarity.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This complicates things for both men. Din is instantly conflicted by the morality of what he's doing; he's supposed to be turning this child in for a price. But as someone who lost his family at such a young age and would have been lost in the galaxy had it not been for the Mandalorians, how can he fathom doing that? Still, he does end up sticking to the Guild code and doing what he initially signed up for, and he turns in Grogu.
Hunter is genuinely confused about Omega at first, but the more she tries to fit in with their squad, the more that confusion is exchanged for worry. He knows the galaxy is changing quickly with the rise of the Empire and that his squad often brings trouble wherever they go. For her sake, he finds it best to have her keep her distance, and he leaves Kamino despite her warning of what's to come.
And when both men find out these children are at risk, they're faced with a life-changing decision: will they sacrifice the life they've always known for this child?
It's an easy yes for both.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both these men make major sacrifices to save these children. Din goes against his livelihood and even receives assistance from his covert on Nevarro, which puts them all in danger. He only narrowly escapes, and even as he does, he has no idea what his next steps are. His life is forever changed.
Hunter takes his squad back to Kamino and is immediately imprisoned with Omega. He loses Crosshair at the hands of the Empire because of this, and he has to leave him behind to get away safely. With no Republic backing them up anymore, Hunter now has to protect a child and care for his squad in an ever-changing galaxy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their first stop is meant to help them lay low and start figuring things out. For Din, that's on Sorgan, where he meets Cara Dune, Omega, and the Sorgan villagers. He gets a glimpse at what a peaceful life would look like, and how Grogu seems to enjoy it. Din insists that's not a life he can ever give Grogu, and so he tries to leave Grogu there, but a threat to his safety (and no doubt some of Grogu's own desire to stay with his new father figure) leads Din to keeping the child with him.
The Batch's stop on Saleucami serves a very similar purpose. Hunter sees the life Cut and Suu have with their children, and he sees how happy it makes Omega to live amongst the kids and simply enjoy a peaceful life. He believes it's not something he and the squad can ever give her, so he decides to have her go with Cut and Suu. But just as with Din, the galaxy has other plans, and Omega stays with her new father figure and brothers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
From there, both men struggle with two primary things: first, their new role as a protector to a child, and second, life on the run. Din needs a way to make credits, but cannot return to work from the Guild. He agrees to questionable jobs to make this possible, all to keep both himself and the child in his charge alive. In the meantime, he's constantly dodging betrayals, from Toro Calican to his old gang, all while Grogu is being pursued by various bounty hunters.
Hunter also knows he needs credits, or else his squad cannot survive. This is complicated even further by Omega being under threat by bounty hunters. It leads Hunter to agreeing to Cid's less-than-ideal partnership, which sees them completing mercenary work for a rather lousy share of credits. He also struggles with the betrayal of Crosshair, who catches up to them on two different occasions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everything culminates for these men when it's time to return to the planets where everything started. For Din, he knows he cannot continue to outrun the Empire and their bounty hunters. The only way both he and Grogu will be freed is by taking out the Client. He gives himself up to get closer access, but this plan quickly backfires when the true mastermind behind it all arrives. Din nearly sacrifices his life to save Grogu and his allies, but in the end, a droid makes a heroic sacrifice to help save everyone and see them to the other side—keeping himself and his child safe for the time being.
Hunter doesn't get as much of a choice at first. He sacrifices himself to let his squad get away on Daro, and he falls into the Empire's—and Crosshair's—captivity. This leads them all back to Kamino, much to Hunter's displeasure. Though they survive through the Empire's and Crosshair's initial plan, they nearly meet their demise due to the destruction of Kamino. It is yet again a droid who sacrifices himself to save them, though he at least makes it through. Hunter has thus gotten himself, his child, and his squad on the other side safely, but only for the time being.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's at this point these men's stories begin to differ, yet still share many similarities in the process. Din has been sent on a mission by the Armorer to reunite Grogu with his kind, and this is what defines much of his journey in The Mandalorian season 2. The overall theme is the same, however: Din doing whatever it takes to protect Grogu, and even considering a life or a possibility that Grogu wants to stay with him for a lifetime.
Hunter's main concern in The Bad Batch season 2 is keeping Omega and the rest of the squad safe. He, similarly to Din but for different reasons, continues to lead his squad into missions, but at the core of it all is his desire to protect—and a search for a deeper purpose. Pabu is what helps him realize what that would be, and that a life of peace could actually be possible for him, Omega, and the squad.
(This is where things begin to get less linear. We'll be going back to The Mandalorian season 2 even as we discuss The Bad Batch season 3.)
Then comes a pivotal event for both men: the inevitable separation of them and the child in their charge. Din's is difficult for him in the way that he knows it's right, but it's still hard to give up the relationship he has with the child he's come to love. He's sacrificed so much for Grogu, and now he has to let him go. It's a devastatingly bittersweet moment that begins a new chapter for Din. Unfortunately, it's not a great chapter, as he becomes lost in his grief for the missing child.
Hunter loses both Tech and Omega, both of which he feels heavily responsible for. Neither loss is something he had control of. What's worse is the irreversibility of Tech's loss, and the difficulty of getting Omega back. He's at his lowest, having lost so much, and he too is overwhelmed by this grief—but also an intense determination to get back Omega, at all costs. Both men have now been changed, but not necessarily for the better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The path ahead is dark for both men. The Book of Boba Fett finds Din unable to do what used to be easy for him, nearly failing a bounty hunting mission and giving himself a horrible injury in the process. It's only made worse by him being excommunicated from his tribe for removing his helmet, sending him on an even worse spiral. He's certainly at his lowest, with only a few allies there to support him along the way. He's even refused a chance to see Grogu, and though he could go against this, he chooses what's best for his son again.
Hunter is making rash decisions in his and Wrecker's quest to find Omega when The Bad Batch season 3 rolls around. The usual level-headed sergeant is impatient and impulsive in his desperation, with Wrecker having to act as the voice of reason quite often. Like Din, he certainly isn't himself anymore, and the things that used to come easily don't anymore—even his enhanced senses. Though he still helps others and does what he thinks is best for the children, he's utterly lost.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, a glimmer of light and hope returns. Din is suddenly reunited with Grogu, and even amidst the chaos of the battle for Mos Espa, Din stops everything to enjoy the moment. It's an emotional reunion which informs viewers that Grogu will be staying with Din for the long run.
Hunter also gets his light returned to him, and like Din, it's his child who finds him first. This reunion is nothing short of emotional, especially with the shared relief both Hunter and Omega have to be back in each other's arms. It's obvious at this point that Hunter and Omega (and Wrecker) want nothing more than to enjoy being a family for the long run.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is where The Bad Batch season 3 begins to echo the latter half of The Mandalorian season 2. Going back in time for Din, he's completing missions to get answers on Grogu, most notably about the Jedi and where he can find them. He helps his allies along the way, but his main priority is always protecting Grogu and getting the answers he's seeking.
This is much of what Hunter does with Wrecker and Crosshair after Omega's been returned to them. He and Wrecker even team up with Fennec Shand (an ally of Din's as well) to get the answers they're looking for regarding Omega. They also help Echo and Rex, but their main priority is keeping Omega safe from the Empire and finding out what exactly it is about her that they're so eager to get.
Then comes the pivotal capture. Din and Grogu are on Tython when the Empire catches up to them, and Din can't be in two places at once. He has to go out and fight, leaving Grogu vulnerable in the process. This allows the Dark Troopers to get a hold of him and whisk him away, just after Din's trusty ship—the one that was much like a home to him—is destroyed. By the end, Din is left with no leads on Grogu's location, and no ship of his own.
Hunter and the Batch are on Pabu when the Empire finds them. Their ship is also destroyed, taking away what was once their home—and their only means of escape. Hunter has to leave Omega in Crosshair's care as he tries his best to find them a way out. Rather than being taken by force, however, Omega gives herself up, but Crosshair's missed shot also leaves them in the same situation as Din: no ship, and no leads.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their journeys and plans then become very, very similar. Din gets the help of his allies Boba Fett and Fennec Shand to ferry him over to Nevarro, where he hatches a plan with Cara Dune to spring a prisoner who's a former Imperial. The prisoner is freed, but there are complications to getting the coordinates, and it requires the use of juggernaut vehicles to get there.
Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair get help from their ally Phee Genoa, who ferries them to a planet where they can also spring an Imperial prisoner. This is where the juggernauts factor in for them, as they must hijack one that holds the prisoner so they can get the coordinates from him. However, there are also complications with this, and there are extra steps they have to take.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The stakes rise to their highest for both men. Din is faced with a harsh truth: if he wants to find Grogu, he has to break his Mandalorian Creed. He does it, removing his helmet for the first time in front of other living beings since he was a child and thus risking his identity for Grogu. He gets the coordinates, but it comes at a high cost. He also has to blend in as an Imperial to complete this mission, which adds to the already mounting stakes.
Hunter also has to strip himself of an identity, but for him, it's the customization of his armor that has long since represented his squad's history. This is to help him blend in as an Imperial as he and his squad gets the coordinates. The stakes mount even more as they discover the only true way to find Omega is to go to Tantiss themselves with no backup, and Hunter doesn't back down as they do just that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then they reach the big rescue mission. Din has a slew of allies at his disposal, which makes the raid of Moff Gideon's ship rather easy. He earns the massive weight of Mandalore's throne by accidentally winning the Darksaber, but The Mandalorian season 3 resolves this by passing the responsibility on to Bo-Katan Kryze, which frees Din and Grogu for a future of their own making once the three of them at last take down Moff Gideon. This allows Din and Grogu to live a life of peace on Nevarro, even if they still have future adventures in store with the New Republic.
Hunter and the squad's mission isn't as simple. They nearly don't make it out, and they're tortured horribly in the process. Omega has a lot of agency in her freedom and their own, though it's still Hunter and Crosshair who get to take out Dr. Hemlock—also freeing them to a life of their own choosing. Hunter tells Omega that they can finally rest, and they at long last get to do so on Pabu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last thing to address is the epilogue of The Bad Batch. Interestingly enough, it goes back to paralleling The Mandalorian season 2 finale. Hunter letting Omega go is very reminiscent of Din letting Grogu go, as both fathers sacrifice their love and protection for the sake of the children's futures. Though Grogu would ultimately choose to return to Din, Omega is now set on her destiny, even if there is a high chance she hasn't seen the last of her father and her brothers on Pabu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of the day, these two Star Wars dads are just two guys trying their best to raise a child in a dangerous galaxy—and even if it's gotten rough around the edges at time, they've done a wonderful, beautiful job of it.

Because I need there to be drama and angst and accuracy because whoever the fuck wrote for Jack did not do eldest siblings justice /lh Also TW for angry parents (Riddle), divorce, dead parents, su*cide + death of a child (Vil’s) I Promise Not All Of Them Are Sad
- Riddle doesn't know he has an older, disowned sister, which was a contributing factor to how his mother treated him because she didn’t want another disappointment.  Riddles mom had another man before Riddles father, and they had Cora Rosehearts (because she kept her maiden name, she didn’t take on her partners last name and insisted for reputations sake, her kids would take on her last name) When Cora was six her behavioural "issues" started coming through, and despite her mothers medical background, she wouldn’t/couldn’t find ways to work with her ADHD to the point she almost hit Cora, but her father stepped in. They argued, the father was horrified, and Ms.Rosehearts blamed him and his genetics for the disappointment of a child. He left right then and there with his daughter and called the cops on her. Nothing happened because there was no proof, but Riddles mothers view of herself was so fragile, she felt she was failing if she didn’t have her perfect family. She very quickly found another man (probably someone she worked with) that she figured would be compatible enough with her to have a child that would meet her expectations Cora’s father finds it difficult to say no to anything Cora asks for because of how she was treated when she was little and he wasn’t always around to protect her. She’s pretty humble and doesn’t ask for much. They're really close and very happy, but Cora often thinks about her mother and what would happen if she did have another kid. Her father finds out about Riddle and debates whether or not he should tell Cora, but once Cora finds out she spends her own money to go find Riddle and show him he has a safe place to come. This happens around Halloween. It’s very overwhelming for Riddle, but eventually the two grow close. Their mother finds out and looses her mind, and she comes to NRC with the intent of homeschooling Riddle again, but Cora stands up to her for him. His mother’s disappointment in him hurts like hell, but he gets to know his biological dad eventually and starts to heal. He can’t bring himself to cut his mother out of his life, but he has harder boundaries after coming home early from winter holidays an emotional mess, just locking himself away in his room until break is over. - Trey is the eldest of 11.  Trey’s parents are both  pretty optimistic about everything, a little unrealistic This made Trey, as the eldest,  learn to be more down to earth, and keep things real, but hopeful. Its exhausting though, any sort of conflict between his parents (not that there’s much) he’s the buffer, but he has to do it for 10 other people. He’s incredibly patient but again, it’s tiring, resulting in apathy when he’s alone or sometimes with Cater/people his age save for Riddle. Seeing as he’s 18, his siblings are all two years younger than the one before them, the only set of twins being the second youngest at 2 years old who he’s closest to emotionally, and the youngest being a baby baby. His sister immediately after him is a little salty that he left home so easily, happy, even to let her take on the responsibility of becoming the “eldest”, but really she’s scared that he is going to leave permanently. Over break he gets the chance to address those fears and make up with her. He loves coming up with new recipes with each of his siblings, and his parents are incredibly proud of him. - Cater's mom and dad are on the brink of divorce his mom (and as a result of his mom, his sisters) spends money to cope but doesn’t have a job herself and relies fully on her husbands accounting skills to make sure things are fine and he's cheated on her once, she knows and uses it to guilt trip him into staying (in their private convos) this was way back, Cater would have been like 6 they, privately, agreed to stay together until all their kids moved out. His mom started trying harder to bond with her kids (also a recovering alcoholic at the time, she’s better by the time he’s 8) but really only succeeded with the girls, and could see that so panicked and just tried to include Cater in everything, thinking it would bring them closer, so if they did divorce before the kids were grown, she figured they’d want to stay with her more often and she could live off child support She also definitely got into a pyramid scheme to prove she could get a job however, his sisters still live at home (26 and 28) and his dad is just so emotionally exhausted he doesn’t care anymore, he’s just really fucking depressed and can’t bring himself to care anymore.  - I have nothing to note for Deuce. His mother is perfect. I love their dynamic. - Ace's older brother is Jack Hearts (he held onto his moms last name after she passed and uses it to honour her in his shows, Ace was too young to remember her) they were raised by their dad and grandparents. Ace adores his big brother immensely and texts him on at least a weekly basis, if not daily. Whenever he learns something new that he’s proud of, he takes a video of it and sends it to his family, because he knows that they’re his biggest cheering squad. (based on Disney Recruiters) - Leona’s family also has no change. I do think he and his sister in law are just really salty in almost a fun way towards each other. - Ruggie has SO many adoptive younger siblings (that the community helps raise, its not just up to his grandma). He’s kind of viewed as the communities pride and joy for getting into NRC, they all helped pay for his tuition and whatnot, so in return he helps them however he can. He and his grandma are tight, and they’re little shits to each other. - Jack does not read as an eldest sibling. He’s the youngest, but he has many younger cousins that all live nearby. He’s closest to his oldest/only sister and looks up to her, contributing to his sense of determination. Having had to look after his cousins made him fairly responsible, but as we saw in the tsum event, he still complained when he had to look after the little thing. That’s not an eldest sibling trait /hj. He has a total of four older siblings. His father is a very stoic, hard to read ex-body builder and his mom is a very eccentric, hyperactive tiny woman. His oldest sister has moved out, and married a successful businessman, and they have one child together. His next older brother tried moving out, got his heart broken, and came home to recover but hasn’t left since, and everyone’s ok with it. The second youngest members are twin brothers that loved wrestling with Jack when he was little, and continue to do so today, even though Jack is bigger than them. Their family was fairly conservative, so when one of the twins came out as gay, they worked to understand more. They’ve got the spirit of support even if they don’t fully understand. Jack’s mother loves telling stories about her kids to anyone who will listen, and his dad has pictures of them in his wallet. The cousins are from their dad’s siblings side, as Jack’s mom hasn’t spoken to her sister in a while, but hopes to hear from her soon. - Azul is an only child, raised by his mom and grandma, who yes, he calls his grandma “Nonna” because an underwater Italian leave me alone. They all yell at each other a lot but its never in malice. His mom is really good about giving him hugs though, but he could stand to go without the cheek pinches. - Jade and Floyd are implied to have multiple late siblings from when they were kids, and in Harveston they say "oh this is our family for now (mom, dad, them, and grandma)" which leads me to believe that their mom might be expecting and the whole family is just kinda waiting to see who survives the first 48 hours. The whole family is rather detached, they have to be for the sake of how survival works in the ocean, but now that the tweels are well on their ways to being adults, their mom is a lot more open with welcoming them home and giving them physical affection, and their dad wants to spend more time with them. This is normal for them, and they’re very glad to have gotten to this point. Their grandma has memory issues, so when they’re with her, Jade pins his hair back so the black stripe isn’t visible, making it a little easier for her to discern them from each other. - Jamil and Najma are two years apart in my mind, and their dynamic is excellent, I’m not messing with it. - Kalim has way too many half siblings, but not a single full sibling. This often makes him feel isolated and lonely even when he’s constantly surrounded by people. - Vil is an only child, but technically he's the youngest. (Tw death/suic*de) The press was bribed by his father to not let the story out after his wife suffocated their last child to death when she was two after a mental break. (she was also a renowned celebrity) They kept it hidden for four more years, but when she realized she wanted to do the same thing to Vil, she killed herself in the bathroom. He doesn’t know this, he just remembers her being beautiful and elegant, and wants to emulate her, which he does well. His father initially didn’t really want Vil to get into acting after seeing what it did to his wife, but Vil was adamant about being as much like his mother as possible. His grieving father didn’t have the heart to turn him down.   - Rook has 6 siblings, and he is the youngest. Each of his siblings excel in certain areas of hunting, as their parents are like Clayton and Mary Jane from Tarzan. Rook takes after his mother more, as his father spent most of his time with his older siblings out in the woods, or other biomes that they chose to hunt in. Rook stayed with his mother, learning about how to use every part of the animal, honouring it’s sacrifice, the beauty in death, etc. until he was about 9 and his father helped him shoot a long bow for the first time. Family reunions are difficult to schedule, but when they do happen, a nerf battle “to the death” happens, before each person makes their favourite dish from the last place they were. Also, his father used to shoot them with nerf bullets if they were getting too rowdy. - Epel has no change, I love him. One thing to note, I suppose is he is trans. His grandma knows. Doesn’t understand a darned thing but he’s happy so she’s happy for him. - Shrouds have each other, as well as "Mrs. Hades" as their aunt (based on Disney recruiters, link above). Their mom is a very warm, loving person, whereas their dad is more detached, (Mrs. Hades is his sister). I like how they mesh, so I’m leaving this alone. A/N I’m hesitant to say anything about Diasomnia except for Sebek, so apologies if you read all this way to try and find Malleus. He’s an only child. There’s no change. - Sebek has an older brother and sister, his sister shares more visible fae traits than either he or his brother do and he’s a little jealous but won’t admit it. His older brother is very bubbly and takes after their father. Sebek thinks he’s the youngest, however he gets to go home over summer break and find out his mother is pregnant. Also I love the HC that Trey and Sebek are distantly related, so yes, that’s canon here too.

✨Kombat Kid AU headcannons✨
✨Featuring Satoshi and Frost✨
Kung Jin has keys to everyone’s rooms. Note that they did not give him the keys, he’s somehow just acquired them. No one knows how he managed this, no keys are missing, but he has them all the same for “reasons”.
Kung Jin used to have a crush on Takeda but that passed back when they were still teenagers. Now they are ride or die besties that will occasionally kiss the homies good night.
In a surprise twist no one was expecting, Takeda turns out to be the only straight person on the team. Given the fact that he was raised by an emotionally repressed ninja in love with an equally emotionally repressed assassin, this came as a shock to many.
Jacqui does NOT like Satoshi. She’ll play nice with him for everyone’s sake, but she won’t easily forgive him for all the crap he’s put Takeda through physically and all the stuff he’s still being put through emotionally.
Kung Jin is also wary of Satoshi and keeps a very close eye on him. Between him and Jacqui, Satoshi is being watched like a hawk.
Cassie would smash the mindflare in Baldur’s Gate. Yes, she gets judged for it, and though Jacqui is very familiar with the benefits of sleeping with a telepath, it is still a squid, and it is gross, and Cass should feel bad. (Kung Jin would do the mindflare too)
Takeda is an amazing cook. He used to help his mother in the kitchen before she died so he’s kept up the skill as a way of keeping her memory alive. Also out of necessity because Hanzo can’t cook to save his life. Cassie often jokes that Takeda will make a great house husband for Jacqui one day.
Cassie, Frost, and Takeda are all metalheads.
Cassie is the only one that can get away with calling Frost Elsa.
A small part of Kuai Liang was happy to see Satoshi back at the Lin Kuei, but a much larger, less selfish, part of his heart was braking for Hanzo.
Frost is very protective of Satoshi but she is also very protective of her friends as well so she is put between a rock and a hard place when it comes to his feud with the SF team.
Takeda starts spending a lot more time with Kenshi and a lot less time with the Shirai Ryu after Satoshi’s return, which honestly just ends up hurting himself and everyone involved even more.
It’s Kenshi that convinces Takeda to return to Hanzo’s side because though he is Takeda’s biological father, Hanzo is his legal guardian and by all rights his father as well and the man has been sending him nonstop messages asking about him, worried sick that he had somehow upset the boy.
The look of pure, unashamed, joy on Hanzo's face when Takeda returned had Satoshi seething.

are you up for doing more of those lore tidbits... I would love to see some for beach polycule, lightningtail, moo, rustbee, bristleheart, sagespeckle, patchback, broccoli, and ravenshade!!!!!
-🦝
sure! i love doing the lore tidbits tbh, i think i should do them more often
-Sandsnap sometimes misses Cricketclan, but he doesn't regret his decision to leave. He was found there as a kit and taken in, but throughout his kithood and apprenticeship he never really felt at home. He had friends, but nobody he was especially close with, so when he started his new life in Fallenclan he was almost always very chipper, just because he was so glad to feel like he fit in. Some of the other apprentices would rib on him for making them look bad next to him.
-Juniperfoot and Myrtleclaw first met when Myrtleclaw joined the clan with his injured tail. Juniper also had an injured tail at the time, so they were both in the medicine den together. They weren't allowed to go out training or hunting until the wounds had closed, so they spent a few days talking to mostly just each other, realizing how much they had in common and how well they got along. Juniper spent a lot of their conversations talking about Sandsnap (Sandpaw, at the time) so Myrtle was very excited to meet him. The three became a trio almost immediately.
-Lightningtail is very close with her kids, but was closest to Lionsong. She had nightmares for months after he died. It took her a long time to come out of her shell again, but when she did, she became fast friends with Mothspots and Crowflame, and remains so to this day.
-Moo is a shameless flirt, but he does it entirely as a joke. As soon as someone takes it seriously or starts flirting back, he gets flustered. The cat that does it the most is Skyfrost.
-Rustbee has had dreams from Starclan since he was a kit. Mostly warnings--Starclan knew that the Archclan camp was going to burn down, and that he would die if he stayed. He mostly ignored them until the last minute, which ended up saving his life. He doesn't have the dreams very often any more, and when he does, he usually dismisses them as his imagination.
-Bristleheart has a lot of ambition, but not for himself--instead, he has it for his daughters, Quailcall and Nightgleam. He loves them both dearly, but often urges Nightgleam to try for the position of deputy, which she isn't interested in but pretends to be for her father's sake.
-Sagespeckle doesn't believe in Starclan. The only other cats he's told are Bristleheart (who doesn't care either way) and Antbite, who promised not to say anything, since he knows word would get to the other clans and Sagespeckle could lose his position as medicine cat.
-Patchback was kicked out of Antlerclan for attacking a clanmate.
-Broccoli, having grown up with twolegs, can speak dog. During the battle when the hounds flooded the camp, he was out on patrol. He can't help but wonder if there was something he could have done.
-Ravenshade is extremely protective of his mother and littermate, especially since Gyoza died. There are very few lengths he wouldn't go to in order to keep them safe and happy, but sometimes he's blinded by this loyalty, and will do things they don't want him to for (what he perceives is) their own good.

White Orchid Info dump!(this might not fit entirely with the BAAU info/lore so apologies if inaccurate-)
✨ Orchid during her life at where the Lambs of Penance reside, barely or never interacted with other children. Now this isn’t because of her father being protective nor her not being social. Afterall, families that wish to not cross paths with those of the Lambs warn their own young of getting to close. Of course Orchid has seen them, but the parents would keep them away..who knows what might happen to a friend of the little Lamb?
✨ White Orchid would end up going to the ceremonies to witness, along with some events. Oddly enough she was disinterested in it, and the time where she was taken to witness someone being joined(or I guess- marked?) by Vanilla(giving star eye thing ig??) or Wafer(as in basically marking them as a target for Vanilla-), she feels abit, off. It doesn’t compare to her confusion when she first saw someone be ascended, before that confusion became more of….worry, and wonder of why.
✨ Often she’d be in the garden, hiding amongst the flowers or talking to them. For some reason she talks to the lilies more…she calls them ‘ white Lily ‘ for whatever reason. And overtime, she’s grown to dislike the orchids with the star eyes. While yes they’d be her ‘old siblings’ in some odd fashion….. she can’t help but feel a sense of weariness and worry. This only contributes to the fact that if Saint could see through the eyes, he could see through hers.
✨ While Saint Vanilla wasn’t present and doing his own thing (just a peace loving cult leader spreading the word of rapture and penance), orchid primarily saw Cream Wafer as her other parent. Of course Wafer is willing to put up with her for the Saint’s sake, but he does get worried over her hide-and-seek like mischief. It’s even to a point the closest thing to ground her is by putting her in a hanging plant pot. Sending her to the garden won’t do a thing, and last time the left her in a plant pot on the ground, she moved around in it via wiggling and maneuvering it. They found her making a wiggle for the exit, with only the luck of Saint coming back that day. To no shock he wasn’t mad, and in fact found it funny almost. However Cream still had the pot be moved into the air instead. Wafer cares for Orchid to death but does not want to find her somehow getting away from the main place and somehow getting to what was the hollyberry kingdom
✨ Orchid has a habit of calling the male adult figures in her life dad or uncle in some variation. This would lead to her calling Wafer ‘bishop baba’ or ‘second dad’. Wafer has some sense of pride in it since this was Saint’s kid seeing him in such regards like family, but unfortunately Frigid Cacao got ‘Baba’ or ‘Second papa’ (will explain more on that another post-).
✨ Due to her having the same ‘blessing’ as her father, she’s often been told she’d be able to ‘save’ cookie with her father one day. However…she wondered if this was saving..or if just stopping cookies from getting a chance at a future…
✨ during when she could hang out with her father, she’d be happy as can be. She loved hearing stories from him or helping him with small things like gardening. She was close with him, and didn’t leave his side often since she felt she’d not see him as much. Sometimes she’d be found sleeping on him or just cuddling him. A good chunk of those who knew her being his child would say she’s quite the daddy’s girl. Of course as time went on her perspective on him changed from thinking he was a good man, to wondering why he chose this path of delusion. However, she still cares dearly for her father…even if to her he was deluded to the point beyond redemption…
✨ when she walks bare foot, orchids pop up similar to Saints. However, she doesn’t try to step on grass originally to not make a mess…now she’s preventing contact so she doesn’t get found.
Cream wafer cookie and Saint Vanilla Cookie from BAAU is by @/cuppajj

you cannot tell me minerva mcgonagall did not watch draco- son of narcissa black, cousin to sirius black- get sorted first year and think “ah fuck here we go again.” You CANNOT tell me she doesn’t brag about him to snape especially since he’s second in the year. I love that she’s obviously proud of him- especially when he saved harry from falling and said “hat was right”. i genuinely think about that line so often. roughly 85% percent of the harry potter series can be summed up by “hat was right”
oh god, you're tempting me to write a oneshot that's just Minerva's perspective of Draco's Sorting. it would be so good. because yeah, she knows exactly who he is, and as soon as it goes "gryffindor," she's thinking oh god fucking damnit. i didn't get paid enough to raise the first morally stunted under-socialized genius Black heir, and i'm sure as fuck not being paid enough to raise the next one. like, she will, but she's not happy about it. (she is, actually. she's super happy about it. especially since she gets to watch the absolute spit of Lucius Malfoy smirks his way up to the podium stool, sit down, and promptly get it wiped straight off his face. she also gets to see Severus's reaction to all of this. the part of minerva's head that is not flipping over all the furniture in her brain in a silent rage-induced war tantrum wants to kiss the hat full on the mouth.)
and then it WORKS?? and it turns out that this slimy little sonuvabitch falls in with harry FUCKING potter and his crew, and ends up throwing his life on the line MULTIPLE TIMES for his sake, miraculously bullies the Longbottom kid up to snuff in Potions, and spends half of her class muttering and passing notes to her teacher's pet best student, Ms. Granger, a muggle-born, and severus comes into the teacher's lounge like once a week bitching about how he's having to speed up the curriculum because Fucking Malfoy and Goddamn Fucking Granger keep reading ahead, and she gets to gloat for days — oh, i'm sorry, did the class rankings come out this week? hmm? what was that the Nott boy got on his Charms exam? an E, you say? how............. respectable. (and that's before we get started on the Quidditch of it all. when Oliver Wood turns in his 1993 team roster for Head of House approval, the Tower cat doesn't stop purring for days.)
at the end of the day, minerva mcgonagall would never go so far as to describe her relationship to her students as familial — she's far too professional for that. however the students feel about her, she firmly maintains respectful boundaries and urges them to prioritize their own families (knowing that she can't be the mother many of them want.) and yet — and yet — you know what, she sees that little blond bastard take a forty-foot dive for a boy his father would've tried to have killed, right there in front of every gryffindor and slytherin there is, and when she gets close enough to hear his loud whinging about his (self-inflicted) broken arm she swears she hears the ghost of Sirius Black barging into Transfiguration bitching about James Potter's six o'clock quidditch practices.
she writes narcissa malfoy a very long letter that night. she doesn't send it, but she keeps it. just in case.

The Horror of Our Love. Chapter 1.
Tumblr media
Co-author: @bigtimesalt8196
Character: Childe Tartaglia | Ajax.
Image: Picsart AI.
Warnings: NSFW; Ajax is older than in canon; broken time line and age line for the sake of plot; female virgin reader, incestuous relationships, family abuse, misogyny, mentions of rape, unprotected sex, black magic, blood and flesh magic, body horror, sacrilegious, Foul Legacy Childe, breeding kink, miscarriage, marriage, grooming, pregnancy, erotic lactation, murdering, abyssal soulmates, serfdom system in Snezhnaya; all the characters are adults; 18+.
Childe remembered his childhood with sadness: the world around him was silent and colorless; his soul, timid and gentle, couldn't find needed endorsement, as no one seemed to care about him and his role in this doomed world either. He was dreaming about adult life: the life where he would be significant and needed like all the adults around him, the life where people would listen to his words and would be interested in his opinion.
Father held the Bible in his right hand, and all of his kids, except Ajax, who preferred to hold it in his left hand, did the same. Father told that sin couldn't come into their house, and everyone believed it, and routine in Ajax's house was calm and silent under the strict oversight of ikons of Tsaritsa in a shy light of lamp.
Childe grew up in the village among the boundless sea of snow and sharp icicles, which were hanging from the roofs and trees like lethiferous rocks that were covering the underwater ground. Rural life was simple and boring: the biggest part of the year people were waiting for the short summer to come to get the previous harvest and sow a new one. In Snezhnaya everything did its best to adapt to the hard climate, and Childe still saved in memory how he was helping father in haymaking time, reeking with sweat and feeling how his skin was burning from unusually hot and mighty Sun. After haymaking Ajax's hair became dull and bright, and his body remained tanned until winter came to cover everything with a solicitous blanket of snow, and nature was resting until new summer – again and again in a sacred circle, despite all the worries and tragedies of human life.
Ajax was too young to experience death: one of newborn brothers died on a second day of his small life – Ajax remembered a dark bundle and a little coffin that looked like a toy boat that he used to play with when he was little; for him it was confusing and seemed like a game: Ajax couldn't understand why the cheerful face of mother became dark, and her eyes seemed to be blind to her other kids. She remained silent for a couple of days, but she didn't stop working – she tried to distract herself from grief with hard work, and her portly strong body was unusually strange for Ajax. The older brothers told him: it wasn't the first time someone of her kids had died, but mother was a very sensitive person. Tears of pity to his mother still were bursting from Ajax's eyes every time he recalled this memory.
Ajax had to grow up when you were born: all the elder brothers had already left, and he was the next one to take responsibility for his family on his fragile shoulders. He didn't like that his family had to work for some noble: parents worked for days and nights for someone who didn't care to raise salary, and the same faith was waiting for everyone in his family, as all of their breed were peasants. Mother told Ajax to be grateful: the landowner they worked for was a good man who visited the village rarely and stayed at the capital. Their duties weren't hard – he just needed to work and be happy for surviving another day. Ajax liked to take care of cattle and horses, and chop firewoods; his favorite were fishing and salting the part of catch which his family was allowed to keep for themselves – but the fact that some man, who was lucky enough to be born in a different social class, was owning Ajax's whole family made him feel sick. They didn't have to worry about the earth, and nobles were obligated to take care of their peasants, but the law was on noble's side: nobles were allowed to deprive their peasants of property and send them out of the village, nobles could punish their peasants as much as they wanted. There was a way to get out of life like this – and Ajax was determined to end it.
Ajax was confused when father yelled at him and punched him at the back of his head: he told Ajax that it was just a whim, just an eagerness of youthful maximalism and inexperience in life. While father was worried about the money and all the taxes he would have to pay from leaving their master, Ajax was thinking about human dignity and the value of his sisters and brothers as a person, not forced labor. Ajax missed the moment when the relationship between father and him started to worsen, but the awe and respect he once had to his father now were gone, and irritation took their place.
'Old man knows nothing about life,' Ajax used to tell his older brothers, who lived in the two nearest houses in the same yard. 'Times have changed, but he is too stubborn and stupid to understand this.'
Older brothers, Timofey and Gleb, weren't good people. When the veil of childhood fell off Ajax's eyes he realized the bitter truth: Timofey and Gleb were thinking about heritage only and were splitting the house, cattle, horses and everything that belonged to their parents already without thinking about younger siblings. Timofey wanted to own all the horses and the workshop in which father was making leather. Gleb didn't care about horses; he wanted only the workshop as the most successful business of their family. Both Timofey and Gleb were apprentices, but the father promised to bequeath the workshop to one of them.
They turned out to be ungrateful vultures who were arguing about the heritage almost every dinner with their alive and healthy father sitting right next to them. It was useless to foster them now, so father only looked at both of them with a heavy gaze and kept silent. When the argument turned into a fight, he usually just punched the dinner table, and they calmed down immediately, changing the topic to bring father's wrath on someone else – Ajax was the favorite victim before your birth. Father had a heavy hand and rather rancorous mind. He punished his kids physically in a nasty, painful manner. He remembered all the misbehavior of his kids and waited until the end of the week: on Sunday, right after weekly visit to the local church, he called the names of a guilty one and brought a rod that was moistening in saline for a couple of days. The execution was simple: the guilty sat (or layed – everything for the comfort of his children) on the bench, while father was whipping them mercilessly. For crying and screaming, he added whips; for keeping silent, too. It was impossible to seek leniency and the total amount of whips dependent on father's mood. Once, he was so mad at Ajax, so he broke three rods on his back – and the scars still didn't heal. That's why father was respected in the village, and no one could say a word against his: Ajax's family was the example of perfection, a beautiful wife, and obedient kids who treated elders with honor – the dream of every snezhnayan man and the indicator of a mighty husband.
Everything went wrong when you were born. You brought your mother difficult childbirth and painful labor, an eclipse closed the Moon and put the earth into the darkness the moment after all the households heard your first cry. Mumbling of the old midwife; exhausted, thick body of mother and bowls with reddish water because of bloody towels that were thrown into it offhandedly: the atmosphere of your first birthday was torturing.
'What are you doing here, huh? Stop hanging around and get lost! Walking here like flies to manure...' Midwife pushed Ajax with her shoulder, walking through the door with one of the basins in her flabby old hands. 'Not a year without your mother bringing another unlucky soul in this world.'
She gave an unfriendly laugh, and Ajax remembered her cracking dry voice. Ajax heeded and heard the old midwife mumbling to herself. 'I've never seen such an ugly birthmark on a newborn girl before.'
Father was absent; even mother took you in her hands reluctantly, more from obligation than from sincere desire.
You were growing up just like Ajax – forsaken by everyone and regularly scolded by father. But there was one thing different from his childhood: you weren't allowed to leave the house no matter what. Your parents didn't care about giving you education or socialization, seeing it as an unnecessary option, harmful even. You were naturally talkative and curious, and it was a big problem of yours. Adults were waving you away as you irritated them with endless questions; no one wanted to spare a moment for you, so you played alone with old broken toys that you got from Ajax.
Ajax's heart ached badly every time he found you alone in the back room of the house (which was used as a storage for newspapers and books), or saw you waving your tiny hand to him through the window when he was working outside. You had nothing else to do but to watch your relatives working in the yard through the frosted window, or sit in the back room and imagine your toy soldier (a poor soldier who lost his hand when he belonged to Ajax, and who's uniform became dull and dirty long ago) reaching the highest peaks of the book mountains to save his princess from a terrible villain. There wasn't enough money in the family to buy you new toys, so Ajax carved out a wooden kitten and gifted it to you. You didn't get presents very often, so you were very happy to get such an ineptly made toy. All the cuts and wounds from thorns healed immediately after Ajax had seen a smile blooming on your face and felt you hugging him. He was the only one who cared about you, and Ajax could tell that he raised you and replaced you both parents.
You loved him more than any other relatives and had a natural girlish desire to marry your older brother after growing up. It didn't trouble Ajax at all – he played your silly game gladly, never seeing a problem in it. He knew it would end soon, but for now, he kept entertaining you by telling you stories about beautiful brides and true love they had for their grooms.
Ajax felt strange by the fact that he was treated like a beloved son by mother, but you were a stranger to your own family. Maybe because of this you looked different from everyone, and the difference in your appearance was showing clearly with every year: your exceptionally noble features and inborn elegance and grace of moves didn't match the family's dense bodies with broad shoulders and strong limbs. You were such an angelic, precious little creature that Ajax couldn't even imagine you drawing water on your scrawny shoulders or damaging your subtle palms with cleaning and sewing. With every year of your life, you became more dreamy and quiet; youthful charm was slowly taking over children's carelessness. But the one special thing about your behavior had never changed: you had always run to hug Ajax every time he went home.
You didn't attend school, so Ajax taught you to read and count, he gave you his textbooks, and tried to explain everything he had known – he wasn't a disciplined student and his knowledge was rather average, as he was oriented on providing for his family and working as a horseman at noble's lands. Ajax did his best to teach you important moral things: piety, love for your homeland, and many others — but for a rowdy teenager like him, it was an unbearable responsibility. For your own good, you were a fast learner, and soon enough, you had the same level of knowledge as Ajax and didn't need his moral guidance. The back room became your favorite place, and you spent hours here, searching for an interesting book or a newspaper with a catchy title to read and learn something new.
Your family was shorthanded, and your parents had to let you leave the house to shovel snow, clean up the kennels, and help Ajax on the stable. Guests almost never visited your parents. If they did, they had to notify them and receive permission – and during friendly gatherings you were hiding in your room by order of father. You didn't question such a strange behavior of your parents: you thought it was normal and everyone lived like this.
You had domestic duties like cooking or mopping floors mostly, but sometimes Ajax taught you how to take care of horses. He made you friends with the calmest and the most sociable one – you were afraid of it at first but the way the old horse ate treats from your palm, tickling your skin with its lips, helped you to forget all your fears. The horse's name was Iskorka, and it gladly took you on its back, admitting you as its equestrian. Iskorka and many other horses liked Ajax, as he was a good ostler. They had always had enough hay and treats, and Ajax bathed them carefully, brushed their manes, cleaned and trimmed their hooves regularly. Their stalls had always been cleaned, and not a mess could be found on the stable – that's why horses from your family were popular between villagers and people bought them gladly. It was a strong, hardy, and sociable breed, so they were used both in field work and riding. A true pride of the family.
Ajax's favorite routine was breaking wild horses: he adored the adrenaline and sense of danger that made his body cover with shivers. Ajax got hurt a lot of times during the process and wasn't afraid of wounds or any critical situation that could happen. Sometimes you were lucky enough to see him in these moments: it was surprising for you to watch your gentle and kind brother acting so powerful and aggressive as the thrill blurred his mind. The act of dominance Ajax was showing against a wild animal didn't match the way he behaved with you, and you didn't want to see him like this. For your childish mind, Ajax was the epitome of a good person, so you refused to see him doing such cruel things because you considered them bad. He explained to you why he had to do this and how much it meant for family's sake, but you didn't understand it – you were overexcited from the new horizons of your existence and your infant senses couldn't focus on such complicated things like family's sake and need.
You were lucky enough not to face your father's punishments: you learned from the experience of others, and during interactions with him, you didn't make any mistakes. Any request of his you completed as best as you could and right in time – it was enough to satisfy him and make him leave you just with a couple of insults (a "wuss" was his favorite one towards you). All your childhood (the biggest part of which you forgot by the time you reached your teenage years) and adolescence you spend as a ghost of your own house: your father remembered about you rarely but when he did, he was watching after you with a heavy pensive gaze that made you walk on your tiptoes and forced you to live somewhere on the background not to burden him. You had never stayed in his presence for too long: it hurt you to realize that he was irritated by you, but you had seen a lot of times how Ajax was punished for no reason, so you preferred to run away while it was safe. Every time you heard the nasty whipping sound of a rod striking the skin and your brother's muffled grunt, you cried silently and waited until the end of the execution to run to your brother's room and help him treat his wounds.
Mother had never visited Ajax after punishments: she was busy calming Teucer, Anthon, and Tonia from crying, as all three of them were afraid to take Ajax's place. It was strange for you to understand that Ajax and you weren't kids anymore. Your childhood passed by like a disturbing dream: it was fast and unstoppable, and all the warm memories about it were related to Ajax only. He was your knight from fairytales; you trusted him with all your secrets and thoughts. Ajax helped you endure not only confrontations with your family but the feminine hardships of growing up too: when your first menstruation started, your mother had just thrown clean clothes at you and shamed you for being disgusting. She left you crying with no pity, shook your hand off of her dress roughly as you caught her by its hem to stop her and ask for forgiveness – you didn't want to be disgusting and make her angry because of this. Ajax had to explain to you what was happening to your body. Without confusion, with a stern, dry voice, he just stated the fact – now you were a maiden, and soon you would reach marriage age.
It was hard not to notice that from this moment Ajax stopped treating you like a child. For him you were an adult now – and he took you with respect and counted on you to gain wisdom on how to be a homemaker. Now, it was your turn to prepare food for the family, babysit younger siblings, and provide them with parental care. Ajax didn't accept your help on the stable anymore and didn't let you do man's work that required physical strength. Ajax gave you the warmest clothes and blankets, appealed to you to watch after your health.
Ajax had taught you that he would always be on your side. He taught you to trust him and never rebel against him – your older brother had known what was best for you, and you agreed with him: he was responsible for you, in Snezhnaya it was an unspoken rule which came from one generation to another without doubts. You asked him for advice numerous times, and he was always right. He was the only man who could touch you, the only one to solve your every problem, the only one to teach you how to be a good woman and wife. He was your support, and he had never demanded a reward from you but you gave him all your love and adoration because he deserved it, you believed. No one could ever compare to him: your older sisters ignored you, Gleb and Timofey hated you. What about Tonia, Teucer and Anthon, for you they were just young cuckoos who pushed Ajax and you out of the nest. You were jealous of them receiving love from mother: your heart ached every time you saw her giving them kisses on their chubby cheeks. Your stomach twisted painfully every time you caught her nursing Teucer or Anthon, and a yearn for mother's warm hands was taking over you. The only feelings you knew for younger siblings were envy and irritation.
They didn't love you back, as everyone else in the house: they got fussy in your presence, every time you tried to calm them down someone of them started crying and calling for mother's attention. It hurt you even more if Ajax came to help you: they enjoyed his presence; especially Teucer, who was Ajax's new favorite youngest sibling. Every time after another failed attempt to babysit Anthon, Teucer and Tonya you got a nice punch at the back of your head from father and plenty of insults as well. A sad sack, idiot, nitwit and many other offenses were spoken out loud by him so everyone could hear your disgrace. Public humiliation of yours was normalized in the family, so everyone could say anything to you without fear of revenge.
You couldn't fight back. Words were stuck in your throat and you just kept silent every time your family acted unfairly with you. Whenever you started crying from such a rough treatment, you were shamed by mother for overreacting and being dramatic. You craved for her attention, as every child you wanted to be noticed and communicated with, but the forming sense of human dignity didn't let you humiliate yourself by acting needy. You dreamed of her soft hands hugging you gently and pressing you to her thick figure, that smelled like bakery and freshness. But instead, you found yourself in the dusty backrooms of the house, hugged by Ajax, roughly and clumsily: never taught how to properly comfort someone, he was pressing you to his chest as hard as he could, so you could feel how sorry for you he was. His calloused, coarse hands were patting you on your head and wiping tears off of your face. Unlike your mother, Ajax smelled strongly with sweat and his hands had a subtle stench of fish that he was gutting for dinner.
Ajax tried his best to cheer on you. Deep inside his soul he saved the childish sentimentality, so he felt extremely guilty for you and wanted to make up for his siblings' behavior. Ajax promised you that he would take you out of this hell: he wanted to live in the city and vowed to you the sweetest life with happiness and joy. He knew that all his promises were impossible to complete and was left helpless, as he had nothing else to offer you instead. Ajax lost his ardor long ago when he got a taste of an adult life. He realized quickly that he would never make enough money to buy his family out, and humbled himself into being a good peasant, but still he was dreaming of being free, and gave your mind the sweet drug of dreams that would never come true. Ajax wished he wasn't so timid. He wanted life to give him an opportunity to become stronger and braver – and despite all his current beliefs, he felt that something was waiting for him in the future, something hopeful and great…

Disney Rumpelstiltskin Part 3
(Thanks for your patience! Sorry it took so darn long, I got stuck on the ending, and didn't want to give up until I had figured it out. Its still a bit rough, it started to get rather complex with my larger DisneyVerse creeping in, but I hope it satisfies! )
So the Imp has come back to make good on Corinne’s last, unsettled payment she owns him, and of course he drops the bomb that he wants her baby daughter, which Corinne of course is not in anyway cool about.
Tumblr media
It’s at this point that he reveals that all the other things he had her give up where tests to see just how far she was willing to go, giving up her mother’s treasured necklace, Henri’s ring, symbols of Love being more important then power and prestige. He’d had an eye on her for a while, and these tests were to see if she has the potential in her for for Dark Sorceress material and surprise —She totally does!
Tumblr media
And she can’t really get on in moving up the Dark Sorceress ladder if she has a baby holding her back, so if she’ll just dump the kid for him to dispose of then she can come with him and get on with growing her dark magical powers, maybe even eventually elevating herself to the throne—
At which point Corinne cuts him off and declares she doesn’t want that at all! She just wants to live peacefully with Henri and their baby, she’s happy with the luck she’s had and doesn’t want more power, doesn’t want to be like the people she’s seen in Dior’s court, constantly scheming and backstabbing and never being actually happy.
The Imp’s face falls, golden eyes flashing with disappointment—and anger. Fine, if that’s how she feels, then she doesn’t have to join him in creating magical chaos. He’ll just keep to the original deal and take the baby, and she can stay and be happy with her boring human husband. They can always have another brat anyway right? If Henri still wants her after finding out she tradded their child to get where she is. She really should have read the fine print on that first bargin the made. But the Imp considers himself a merciful being, he’ll give her three days to think it over and change her mind
Left alone and horrified at the realization of all she has to lose, her family, her humanity, Corinne comes to a decision—to tell her Henri the truth and hope he can forgive her and help her save their child, for the baby’s sake if not for hers if he finds he can’t love her anymore.
But of course he can, he’s always been the best of the people in the court, and he’s not about to lose his beloved wife and child without a fight. The Imp said she had magic, powerful magic of her own. Couldn’t they use that magic to find a way to stop him?
Tumblr media
And Corinne starts to feel hope. There's something in that. She might not be powerful enough to go toe to toe with the Imp, but if she could find a way to go around him? Find a weakness of his? She clutches a handful of star, the thing that had started this all off, and summons the magic to her, focusing on what the Imp had taught her into bringing it to the surface. A ball of gold begins to form, a string coming loose and shooting out the door, slithering off into the darkness. Hesitanting only as long as it takes to grab a weapon, the couple join hands and race after it, two Theseus's pursuing the Minator into the labyrinth...
They find their way to strange tumbled down structure in the middle of the forest. It looks abandoned enough, but both know looks can be decieving. They cautiously enter the ruin-- but not cautiously enough it seems. A dizzing burst of light explodes around them, and when they can see again, the Imp sits before them, chuckling darkly.
"What, did you expect to sneak up and find me dancing around the fire singing my True Name? "
Tumblr media
Instantly the two find themselves bound by the very thread they'd followed, as the Imp continues to gloat and heckle them. Rage builds up inside Corinne, the same anger she's felt from feeling the neglect of her father, the contempt of the village and Dior and his court. And with the rage comes an idea. What had the Imp said about dancing about and...
Tumblr media
"I want to make a new Deal" Corinne says sharply, cutting off the Imp mid taunt.
"Oh? And what is it you could possibly offer me now Dearie? Ready to join me and leave the little people and their little minds behind after all are you?"
"No, I still want to stay with Henri and my baby"
"Then I'm afraid you've nothing I want"
"I think I do..." Corinne whispers, taking hold of the thread of gold that binds her, the thread she herself had conjoured, meant to lead her to find a way to undo this creatures hold on her.
"I'm offering you my Magic"
Tumblr media
The Imp's eyes blaze, despite his effort to appear as calm and unruffled as usual, and Corinne can see she's struck gold. "You said I've the potential for great power. I'm offering you that in exchange for leaving me and my husband and child in peace together, free from any harm or machinations you or yours might try. If you promise to leave us be, you may take my magic for yourself"
She twists the cord in her hand, and it shifts into a shining contract and quill, ready to be signed.
"Sign here, and all that potential, all that power is yours"
The Imp hesitates only a moment, greed winning out over caution, seeming not to notice the golden tendrils that flicker along the edges of the quill and contract and loop back into the coil still holding Henri trapped. With a grin of wicked glee he signs the contract with a flourish--
Tumblr media
There's a crackle like lightning in the air, and now it's Corinne's turn to smile as the tendrils linking the quill and contract she'd conjured shine with power, looping around herself and the Imp and Henri--and the iron dagger Henri holds in his hand, the dagger that now bears the True Name of the Imp, "Rumplestiltskin"
"A little something for insurance" Corinne says, smirking at the wide eyed Rumplestiltskin. "Iron cannot be touched by the Fay, and so this name can never be erased. If you ever try to break this contract, or if you ever try to touch me, my husband or child again, this dagger will be your undoing. You really should have read the fine print"
Tumblr media
For a moment there's an unbearable tension, and then Rumplestiltskin laughs, darkly, wildly. "Oh well played Dearie, well played. Well far be it from me to break the bounds of a contract. I'll be on my way then, but remember--all magic comes with a price. You've paid for our original contract with yours, but you've made a powerful enemy as well. I may not be able to harm you three, but I hope you don't plan on having any other children anytime soon. Enjoy your Happily Ever After while it lasts..."
And then with another flash, he's gone.
And they do enjoy it. They raise their daughter and begin to grow old together, and while there is some sadness that they can not risk having another child, they find that their daughter Regine is enough for them. And for several years all is well.
Tumblr media
What happens after that is another story...
Background Bonus Stuff:
Why does Rumplestiltskin deal in babies in the DisneyVerse? Well, long ago a prophecy was made that a Child born of Common Blood raised Royal would be the undoing of the Demon Queen and all her ilk, from whom Rumplestiltskin was of the lineage. He and his family took this to mean a child born from a commoner and a royal. So anytime there's such a child one of them pops up to try and prevent the child from reaching their full potential, influencing events either directly or from the shadows.
Rumplestiltskin prefers corruption over destruction, and turns the children he takes into people unfit to combat the forces of evil, if he cannot turn them fully. All information our couple could have learned if they'd bothered to ask the young woman he'd delivered to be Dior's wife...
Tumblr media
(A certain magic mirror that holds the soul of Rumplestiltskin's father tried to help a vain queen destroy a beautiful dark haired princess several centuries ago, and will pop up again to give two sisters in a frozen kingdom some trouble in a few centuries to come. )

In of the scenarios where Edward doesn't save Bella from the car in the parking lot (for some reason or another) what if Bella survives the crash, albeit probably very injured?
Well then he loses control because there's blood all over the parking lot. Alice, Jasper, and Emmett (I hold out hope for Rosalie) have a merry old time exposing the secret and then, uh, disposing of the schoolyard full of witnesses.
Assuming it was a sunny day though, and the Cullens weren't at school, then Bella is now very injured.
Edward, horrified by this news, ends up visiting her in the hospital. He convinces himself this is because she'll be glad to have people from school visiting, and even brings her his Biology notes so he can feel he has a reason to visit.
Bella is utterly bewildered why he's there, and assumes he was visiting his father at work when he dropped by. No other explanation would make sense, given she's a nobody and he's too beautiful to be concerned with the likes of her.
Edward continues to visit her.
Charlie is happy the nice Cullen kid is keeping his daughter company, Carlisle is... less sure what to think of this but Edward insists it's fine and he can control himself. If anything it's easier this way, because the drugs in her blood are dampening the flavor considerably.
In fact, the drugs are dampening the flavor to the point where there's not much point in him being there. Oh, he can smell the faint ambrosia beneath the hospital smell, but it's hardly any more tempting than your average human.
His control isn't going to get any better at this rate. If anything, he'll grow complacent and forget how delicious her blood tasted, and then before he knows it she'll be off the meds and back in school and then what will he do?
This, he decides, (needing in part to justify his visits to her because this is a timeline where no one even thought Bella would even survive, nevermind remember anything, so there was no "Kill Bella" vote, meaning Alice never told him he was in love with her) is going to be his opportunity to acclimatize himself to her blood.
(For the sake of the post we'll assume Bella's just on painkillers and immunosuppressants (the latter since I imagine there were a lot of surgeries and titanium implants).)
So, he starts tampering her medication, little by little, letting her scent improve as he acclimatizes.
The only problem, of course, being Carlisle, who at this point has decided that Edward is using Bella's stink period to get attached to the girl, so he'll have all the more reason not to kill her. Unorthodox, not to mention risky, but it explains why Edward's being so cagey about it all. So long as everyone agrees the girl should live, Carlisle figures.
And then her scent starts getting better.
Carlisle won't suspect Edward, because that would be insane. Edward would have to want to torture himself, with the risk being that he killed an innocent girl.
Edward is not on the list of suspects.
He is, however, told to stay away from Bella until Carlisle figures out what's up, if she somehow did this herself (doubtful, she's in agony now that she's off the painkillers and she has these nifty implants she wouldn't want her body to reject) or if the staff has been stealing the good stuff.
Not one to be defeated, Edward starts volunteering at the hospital. You need to find out where Dr. Snow's office is, ask Dr. Cullen's helpful young son!
Part of volunteering, of course, is sitting with patients.
(Carlisle is told Edward is simply inspired by him, and by what he's seen of the hospital when visiting Bella. Edward certainly seems to believe his own words, and Carlisle...
Well, he can't think of any other reason why Edward would do this, it's just that this here is hubris. Edward, having resisted his singer, seems to be taking his control for granted and Carlisle's terrified of what's going to happen, yet powerless because Edward has made up his mind.)
Bella is discharged from the hospital, and starts going back to school. Edward, being slightly better prepared and knowing her so well now, revels in how easy it is for him to be near her.
Except, he hadn't realized how much time she spent at school, with chores, with her dad. Rather, how little time she spent on her own, where he could be with her.
I imagine Bella takes a tumble down the stairs not too long after being released.
