ok ok so not sorry for loving you was oretty much what I was expecting calypos va is amazing and the song is so pretty and I almost feel bad enough for her to like her
dangerous was a BANGER I didnt know about the more calm bits at the beginning and end and the pause when the crew usually replied in the 600 lives bit fucking HURT but then hermes shows up and its like WOOOOO PARTYY FUCKIINGGG TIMMEEE AM I DIONYSUS OR WHAT CAUSE WE ARE HAVING A RIDEEEEEE!! the anamatic with ody fighting all these monsters and hermes busting it down was HILARIOUS I love him SO MUCH troy eats every time and its amazing
charybdis was EVEN BETTER THAN I EXPECTED tbh ik a lot of people were really excited for get in the water and dont get me wrong I was too! but I was REALLY excited for charybis and it met my expectations perfectly the vocals and how just fucking DONE ody sounds is PERFECT I love it
get in the water. holy SHIT get into the water. it was what we knew was coming UNTIL IT WASNT AND THEN IT HURT THE BIT WITH HIS DEAD CREW/FRIENDS/MOM WAS OUCH and a fucking jetpack I CANNOT take that seriously bcuz omg thats so funny that he used a JETPACK to fight posideon AND IT WORKED
six hundred strike ima be honest didnt love the 3d render thing it wasnt for me but the water physics were sick but the MUSIC IS AWSOME I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY EEEEEE
first off the crews voices coming back to accompany odysseus as he avenges each of them is GREAT but then
then
the end
HOLY SHIT THE END I
I dont even KNOW what to say because OH MY GOD
posideon basically saying yeah whatever you win but ur fucked you dumbass and ody replying with youre calling that storm off. and posideon going or what bitch
and then the danger motif starts
AND THEN ODYS FUCKING RAMPAGE
STABBING HIM OVER AND OVER AGAIN WITH HIS OWN TRIDENT
THE PRONGS TEARING THROUGH HIS LUNGS FILLING THEM WITH BLOOD INSTEAD OF WATER HOOKING BEHIND HIS RIBS AS HIS OWN TRIDENT SINKS INTO HIS IMMORTA BODY OVER AND OVER HURTING MORE THAN ANY MORTAL WEAPON COULD
and the things odysseus is saying? holy fuck theyre almost more painful then the trident because DAMN
you can hear all the rage, the misery, the grief, every single goddamn thing odysseus has been through every person hes lost every person hes fail every. single. emotion. odysseus has felt is so raw and painful and THERE and its awful and amazing and its perfect for that moment
and th animation for that portion is amazing too. the glowing stripes on posideons sides and the flashes of lightning and the blood on the trident and the way posideons body lurches as odysseus stabs him AH and ofc that final line. THAT LINE HOLY SHIT
“with everything youve done… how will you sleep at night?”
“next to my wife.”
so good. im in love.

not me lying wide awake at 5:30am on a sunday on my day off bc after almost a full year I finally FINALLY realized the implication of the end of remember them from the cyclops saga
Tumblr media
#that song has one of the most powerful ending crescendo sequences ive heard in maybe all of musical theater#so it. always felt incomplete after ALL that buildup during the I AM THE INFAMOOOUS#only to just drop to SILENCE. no music. no fanfare. just ODYSSEUS!#he doesnt even really sing it he just sort of... shouts it#and then its followed by the faintest sound of ocean waves#its poseidon. listening. THATS why athena said DONT#poseidon heard that declaration and came back to get him later#😬#i just looked up the lyrics for ruthlessness too and poseidon basically spells it out 😂#ive only listened to that song once or twice tho and i guess i wasnt too focused on the words#anyway i relistened to the songs on friday and theyve been rotating in my mind like a 7/11 hotdog#the whole cyclops saga especially is just.... so so good#they truly dont make music about bashing peoples heads in like they used to#the first 3 songs of the saga especially... oof#how they blend one into the other back to back and end up making like a 10 minute narration of events#the whole thing is so bone chilling#it gets my heartrate up lol#PLUS the theme of pain and vengeance bring more pain#EVERY time polyphemus says 'what gives you a right to deal a pain so deep'#and when odysseus says 'what good would killing do when mercy is a skill more of the world could learn to use'#rocking back and forth sobbing crying#remember them the next time that you DARE choose not to spare! remember them... remember us... remember me!#cant wait for everyone to turn their back on this musical in 5 yrs#like they did with hamilto.n#hamilto.n never stopped being good actually#yall are just embarrassed about being weird fanatics over people who rly existed

“mercy saga” au
Back on my bullshit,
CYCLOPS SAGA
Tumblr media
the cyclops saga begins with the song Polyphemus.
Tumblr media
Odysseus and his men enter the cave that the lotus eaters directed them to. Odysseus shoots one of the sheep within the cave, and a cyclops enters and blocks the exit with a boulder. The cyclops, Polyphemus, is furious that they entered his home and killed his friend. Odysseus offers him wine (that is heavily drugged with lotus fruit) in return for their exit. Polyphemus agrees, but is enraged when he tastes the lotus.
Tumblr media
Then, Survive and Remember Them.
The cyclops attacks. He swings his club and kills several of the men, including Perimedes, who is too slow and still under the effects of the Lotus. Odysseus, believing the bloodied mess to be Polites, is stunned by the loss of his friend.
Polyphemus eventually passes out from the drugged wine, and they blind him by sharpening his club into a spear.
Tumblr media
Athena tells Odysseus to kill Polyphemus after they’ve escaped with his sheep, and Odysseus complies. Before Polyphemus’ death, he reveals his name and title. Using his last breath, Polyphemus calls out for his father to avenge him.
The cyclops saga ends with My Goodbye.
Athena urges Odysseus to make a sacrifice to Poseidon, since they will be sailing home on his waves and they failed to sacrifice before leaving Troy. Odysseus, grief stricken and spiteful, refuses, claiming the god of the sea has not helped them. Athena is disgruntled by his ignorant and prideful refusal, and leaves.
Next up…
The Ocean Saga
feel free to send in asks about the au by the way! :)

➸ Nobody vs. the G.O.G.; Poseidon × S/O
Characters: Poseidon A/N: This is kind of a re-write of my old piece of the Reader being Odysseus' ancestor. I remembered that I wrote it a while ago, and in honor of the next saga of the Epic musical, I decided to redo it for fun! Anyways, have fun reading! ➥ Summary: What happens when two long-time rivals end up meeting again due to one similar relationship? Something entertaining for poor you, that's for sure.
DISCLAIMER: THIS CONTAINS QUITE A BIT OF VIOLENCE AT THE START. READER'S DISCRETION ADVISED THERE.
╔══════════════════════════════════════════╗
Tumblr media
╚═════ Poseidon ══════════════════════════════╝
🔱 It was years, centuries ago, that a human and goddess had a child. An accident was what the Gods called it as they reassured the female, whom had left the baby with its father
🔱 The Goddess had to observe her child's life, aging underneath the tyrannical hand of the man who made up half of them. She sobbed nearly every night in the arms of her fellow Gods, and they had to reassure every night that it had to be this way. As a human could never live among the Gods
🔱 While the child's mother watched, they grew, married, had children, and that happened multiple times before she began to leave the next generations to themselves. The Goddess did come back. And her current descendant, Laertes, smiled as his newborn son was handed to him
🔱 Unbeknownst to them, the baby's ancestor would check on him almost daily, floating above him on a cloud. She held her hand out to the young Odysseus and he giggled as he grabbed her finger, a steam-like print being engraved into her skin
🔱 She smiled and sung to him the song that her father would sing to her whenever she was homesick. Memories flashed of the giant male hugging her and humming while her mother just coughed sickly and laid on his shoulder. Perhaps this song could make better memories with this young man?
🔱 Odysseus aged tremendously in the Goddess' eyes. He had the most beautiful dark hair she saw, and his eyes always made her proud to see the glimmer of life in them. Especially when he met his wife and they had his son
🔱 As he sailed off to fight against Troy, his ancestor stayed around his family. She transformed into a beautiful phoenix, with her wings and body being whiter than the clouds and the fire affect resembling the fluffy-structures in the sky
🔱 The bird would fly by every day, making sure the mother and son were safe from the suitors. One day, she went to far in protecting them to lure one out of the castle, grab him by the neck, and tell him to warn his fellow suitors that;
"If thou dare lay one hand on Penelope or Telemachus, I shall lay waste thee and thy fellow suitors. Now leave. Say to the others of this warning."
"Yes, Goddess of the Ocean's Storms and wife of Poseidon, God of the Sea. This warning shall be told to mine fellow suitors. I just pray to be spared from thy rage." He replied, a pathetic tone coming out and not the overconfident one from before.
"Go. Thou hast received the mercy of a goddess. 'I return, I expect a sacrifice of four suitors by the end of this week. Understood, mortal?"
"Merely, goddess of the ocean's storms. Thou hast mine word to mere thy crave 'i exchange."
🔱 The suitor ran off in fear. But, despite the warning from him, the men just laughed, calling him crazy for swearing that a Goddess such as that to visit him for such a petty reason
🔱 The next day, he was found with a trident stabbed through his chest.
🔱 It was months that the woman watched, not intervening, despite the wish to do so. She had been held back by her close friend, Aphrodite. Much to her despair. She wanted those suitors to be torn piece by piece until the other way to recognize them was from their torn-out eyeballs
🔱 A smile crossed the Goddess' face as she watched Athena protest against her father, Zeus. Her words made sense. After all, she did know this boy the best out of them all. Well, other than you that is
══✿══╡
🔱 You smiled as you intertwined your arm with Poseidon's. You both were your way to visit a certain young man who had delivered a letter to your doorstep. It was the young Telemachus of Ithaca, the son of former King and Queen Odysseus and Penelope
🔱 Poseidon's blank stare remained as you pet the head of a cute dog, his long snout's darker tone contrasting with the pink-colored tongue he used to lick you
"What a sweetheart, right, Poseidon?"
🔱 He looked away before nodding. It was hardly noticeable to most, but after living with him for a few centuries, you get used to his small signs
🔱 You stood as you heard your name get called. The smile on your face grew largely as you saw the young man come running out, his arms wide for you to hug him. He wrapped them around your shoulders and you laughed at the actions
"Telemachus. You act as if you haven't aged since you were a young 20-year-old! It's impressive you're over 100 now!" You joked.
🔱 Telemachus smiled and laughed. He then looked behind you and saw Poseidon, his eyes slightly widening as he caught sight of the God. The same God his father told him so many scary stories about ever since he returned home
"L-Lord Poseidon." He said.
🔱 Poseidon let out a breath as you rolled your eyes and asked Telemachus where his parents were. He looked back at you and nervously chuckled before motioning for you both to follow him inside of his home
"Mom's most likely observing some of the birds in the garden. My dad's probably training his men in the fields. You know him..."
"Do I ever."
🔱 Telemachus and you two stopped in a living room. It had many piece of furniture that was a mixture of Ancient Greek and modern-times. He told you guys you could sit down as he gathered his parents to see you both
🔱 You smiled and looked at Poseidon. He just stared off at the nearby ocean, probably thinking out everything he had to finish once you two returned home. Before he or you knew it, Telemachus came back in with his mother being dragged by her arm, a laugh coming from her as it happened
"Penelope. It's so lovely to see you again!" You said, embracing the woman like how you did her son.
"The same goes for me. You haven't aged a year! You must teach me your secrets." She joked.
"Penelope, what's going on?" A new voice said.
🔱 Looking up, you saw another male walk into the room. He had long, near-black hair, and a lightly-grown beard. Your eyes lit up when they met his, memories flashing in your head as you practically ran up to hug the man
🔱 Poseidon glanced up and stood up firmly, slamming his trident into the ground as he remembered the guy. This was the one man he hated more than anyone
"Odysseus of Ithaca."
🔱 Odysseus slightly jumped and looked up from your shoulder. Seeing the God of the Seas there, he pulled your behind him, unsheathing his sword to keep his family safe from the heartless man
"Poseidon. What are you doing here? We settled our issues years ago."
"No! No! No, Odysseus, I brought him here to meet you guys. Wait. How do you two know each other?"
"It's a long story..." Odysseus mumbled.
"One that I would be lucky to be recanted on." You said sternly.
"Well..."
"Polyphemus. He went blind because of this mortal."
"Huh? I thought- you stabbed him?!"
"Uh..."
"Okay, let's start from the top."
══✿══╡
🔱 You looked down at the ground with a facial expression that made Odysseus and Poseidon look away slightly. You weren't glaring, but you weren't even close to smiling either
"Let me make sure this is all clear. Odysseus, you fought in Troy, left, got stuck at an island trying to find food. Then you tried eating Polyphemus' sheep, and after he killed multiple of your men, you blinded him. Then you opened a bag from Aeolus after Poseidon came around, started and storm and fled, got stuck with Circe, went to the Underworld, dealt with sirens, Scylla, and Zeus. And then you had to deal with Calypso, and eventually had to deal with Poseidon once again."
"Yeah..."
"And Poseidon. You heard Polyphemus' cries for you, came and found out everything. And, using the information and name that Odysseus' blurted out in a ego-boosted stupor, found him, and drowned most of his men. You then proceeded to threaten Penelope, Telemachus, and the entirety of Ithaca with drowning?"
🔱 Poseidon nodded in a reply as you sighed and rubbed your temples
"Well... this has become much more of a difficult meeting than I hoped it would've been."
"You're telling me..." Telemachus said.

I have very complicated feelings for the Vengeance Saga (after the first listen)
Disclaimer: I will only criticize Epic the Vengeance Saga as a work on its own, not for its inaccuracy or deviation from mythology and The Odyssey. There are more knowledgable people who can point out and analyze the changes in Epic the Musical, but that is not what I'll be tackling here.
To put it bluntly, I'm not being angsty about it as I should. The whole saga just... didn't feel right with me.
Now, first off all, I'm a big fan of Epic and had been following it since the Cyclops saga (first version). I've been in love with many songs and hyperfixed it for months on end. But when the Vengeance saga came along, I didn't feel that same bubbling love rise in me.
Even as a fan, this isn't my first time having peeves with Epic. I didn't jam with the re-release sagas for a while, I'm underwhelmed with the Circe VS Odysseus fight and other issues, very unpopular opinion but "Monster" wasn't too impactful to me, and also the God Games (especially Zeus' attack).
The Vengeance Saga though? Well, they say we gotta do the Bun-Meat-Bun (or whatever the hell its name really is) technique when giving criticism, so I'll start with the good parts.
I love that Odysseus looked so done with Calypso in "Not Sorry For Loving You". They're basically this meme:
Tumblr media
Like sorry you're a sad but you're still an abuser 😒
Then Odysseus starts singing the reprise for "Full Speed Ahead" but there's no one to back him up. That one hits me hard. To whoever on Tumblr said that after the Thunder Saga we will never hear the crew's back-up again and Odysseus' singing will be answered with silence, Apollo really blessed you with the red ball.
Hermes and the Winions' part was really cool too! I really like them being mischievous helper! The warning about the wind bag and the changing scene of Odysseus fighting off sea monsters while Hermes just vibing with the beats is 👌👌👌
But after that the hype started to sizzle out for me. You might want to skip this part if you're not comfortable with harsh criticism because I WON'T hold back.
It's really backward but I like the Odysseus VS Charybdis draft more than the final production. Charybdis' roars and music are somehow less intimidating, which is a shame because I thought this would be one of the biggest struggles Odysseus will face. Even with awesome illustrative animatics, the scene wasn't as thrilling as I've expected.
The other songs got massive improvement from its draft version (on top of my mind I can think of "Thunder Bringer", "There Are Other Ways", "Little Wolf"), but I don't get why "Charybdis" didn't get up-graded as much like them. It's like a cake that was throughly baked but half decorated and it just didn't taste as good as I've hoped.
Then we have the Odysseus VS Poseidon part in "Get In The Water" and "Six Hundred Strikes". The first thought I had for GITW is this song sounds like all the draft snippets were mashed together without a smooth transition/connection between them. Jorge and Steven's performance is great, but there's not enough tension for me to dread for Odysseus. When Poseidon first met Odysseus in "Ruthlessness", the whole opening was terrifyingly good! And we didn't even have any illustration animatic back then! (that's not to say the GITW animatics were bad, they just can't salvage much when the song itself was already weak)
I wasn't impressed with Poseidon's Shatter The Ocean move either. It's supposed to be the Strongest AttackTM but it's less scary than when he and the Laestrygonians destroyed Odysseus' eleven ships with probably 1% of their power. It didn't even help when Poseidon looked like he's having a seizure with lights pouring out of his eyes and mouth during the transformation.
Odysseus being literally on the brink of death with the souls of his loved ones pulling him into the abyss is a gem in the rough, but because we've seen Odysseus almost drowning before in the end of the Thunder Saga, it's not as shocking as it should be. Furthermore, Poseidon could have instant-killed Odysseus right then and there but didn't really annoyed me. But I guess he just wanted Odysseus to slowly suffer while dying.
Right when I thought the progress will get better, it... gets down. I can go with Odysseus using wind to escape the water, but him wearing it like a jetpack is so comical it ruined the drastic of the situation. And I'm officially let down when Odysseus FUCKING ATTACKED Poseidon in "Six Hundred Strike".
What? Just... why with that choice?
Look, I'm not gonna fault Epic for making creative liberties from the source material (as said in the disclaimer), but I will criticize if that change contradict itself in the transformative work. And this is one of them.
Poseidon and the gods have been proven time and time again in the musical just how powerful they are. Their ominous and grandiose entrances, them striking fear and inferiority in our hearts just by singing. Even Circe, a low-level goddess, poses a constant threat to the crew and Odysseus had to get help from Hermes just to get a chance to corner her (and Hermes even joked that he can still die!)
Poseidon easily destroyed almost all of Odysseus' fleet. Odysseus was very avoidant of him, opting to go to the literal Underworld to find instruction on how to dodge him and sailing through Scylla's lair + willing to sacrifice six men for safe passage. And when Poseidon said he can drown all of Ithaca, it's not just bluffing, he would and could have done that. Yeah, the King of the Sea is THAT BIG of a treat.
So no, Odysseus isn't cool to attack Poseidon, he's being stupid. I'm not even cheering for him the whole him he fight, just groaning at how ridiculous the whole thing is. If Epic is more believable and sticks to WHAT IT HAD ESTABLISHED BEFORE, having a sudden burst of anger and choosing ruthlessness won't save Odysseus from one swipe of Poseidon's trident. Odysseus stood no chance against a one of the most powerful deity, even if he's the protagonist and love his family.
Not only that, Poseidon didn't even defend himself and was wounded by a mere human! And he just sat there and took all the blows and insults from Odysseus??? And he actually begged Odysseus to stop and agree to quell the storm to let him get home??? I'm not buy that bullshit. I'm more upset that a literal Olympian god was nerfed down than Odysseus having a Gary Stu moment. Give me a break, that try-hard moment to be cool and edgy just show how badly written the scene is.
What's the fucking point of hyping up how dangerous the gods are if a human can take one down? Tell me this isn't some Wattpad-y Greek myth retelling fanfic where the teenage Y/N sass her way to defeat an entire pantheon. Epic really traded its opportunity to be better for some cheap and out-of-the-blue dramas in this saga, dare I say it's even worse than Zeus' OOC attack on Athena. I'm very disappointed with that decision.
On an end note, the saga did have one saving point with the "After everything you've done, how will you sleep at night?" - "Next to my wife" lines. Odysseus knew he could be the most horrendous man ever and Penelope would still choose his side, that just show how powerful their love and faith in each other are.
But not enough to excuse all the terrible cinematic choices.

Just casually listing how songs relate to the sagas they're in.
Troy Saga: two of the songs take place in Troy, the rest have no mention of Troy.
Cyclops Saga: three of the songs have a cyclops in them, the last song has no mention of any cyclops.
Ocean Saga: all of the songs take place on the ocean. also the god of the ocean, Poseidon, is in half the songs.
Circe Saga: all of the songs have Circe in them. (yes, even Wouldn't You Like, if you listen closely to parts you can hear Circe.)
Underworld Saga: all of the songs take place in the Underworld. no mention of any Chthonic god.
Thunder Saga: named after Zeus, who shows up in 1/5 songs.
spoilers for unreleased sagas
Wisdom Saga: named after Athena, who shows up in 1-4/5 songs (we know she's in God Games and I seriously doubt she's in Love in Paradise but all the others could have Athrna in them, or they could not.)
Vengeance Saga: there is much vengeance. no mention of any god of vengeance.
Ithaca Saga: all of the songs take place in Ithaca.

EREN's MOODBOARD (pt.1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My take on eren's moodboard + modern headcanons :) i hope u guys like it, let me know what u think!
I write while listening to this song btw:
Modern Eren is close with Carla
He at least got one face piercing and a hidden tattoo most likely on his torso and just so Carla doesn't sees it that much
Don't touch his hair or he'll bite. Consider urself special once he lets u touch his hair.
He got a mini figurines / manga collection somewhere in his room
Enjoys series that is deep and philosophical like Vinland Saga, Mononoke 2007, Big Fish, u name it
Naturally good with his hands (wink ;)) i mean litterally good at anything he tries to do, music, craft, he's just naturally skillful
Listens to frank ocean, brent faiyaz, tory lanez, summer walker, and a bunch of bedroom RnB songs
Is a sucker for night drives especially when he got alot on his mind
Loves classic cars
Is a biker ;) refers to his bike as "her", gave his bike a delicate name for no reason like "Annette" or something like that, says stuff like "her tank is so small bro", "gotta clean her asap"
Loves reworked fashion item. Often comissioned Connie for some reworked hoodies / cargos, he loves it. (I hc Connie is actually good at reworking thrifted items)
I hc that Eren is a social vaper, doesn't take vaping seriously unless its in a social / friend gatherings situation, just to blend in a bit more.
I got more but i'll put it on another post, i got tons of Eren brainrot i just gotta get it out 😩.
(Also this is my first time writing something on tumblr after 8 years having this account 😭💀)

“Down on my knees for ya” from horse and the infant is like…dayum Ody…you really desperate to keep that baby ain’t you.
In Just a man, I think instead of throwing the baby off the wall he should’ve just slid him under his shirt and said “it appears my wife had gotten me pregnant.” They gonna believe him. They ain’t smart.
At some point during Full speed ahead I know Ody just wanted to go “stop copying me already!”

In open arms, Polities told Odysseus to, ya know, greet the world with open arms, but he didn’t tell Odysseus that open legs wasn’t an option. Hehehehe
Tbh, at first I thought warrior of the mind was like some sorta Disney song, like how there’s a Hercules movie? I thought this was also some movie like that.
In Polyphemus Ody saying “I’m so glad we see eye to eye” is wild considering he’s a short king(literally) and Polyphemus was like three times his height? You ain’t eye to eye? Bro has to be laying on the ground and even then Off might need to be on a stepstool or something.
For survive, the first time I heard it was where someone took the “600 lives at stake” and the “600 lives ill take” at the same time…in a cookie run kingdom edit…so…yeah.
Remember them, imagine saying “I’m your darkest moment” to someone you just blinded? And then their farther steals your “remember me” and said “I am your darkest moment” lines.
My goodbye is crazy, Ody really pulled out the:
Tumblr media
….on Athena. He was must’ve been tripping or something.
Maybe I’ll do The ocean and Circe saga later 🤷
tbh I don’t know what I was doing I just started ranting. I haven’t slept. Actually I had heard survive before, my friend said “LISTEN TO THIS, A CYCLOPS IS HITTING PEOPLE WITH A CLUB LIKE HES PLAYING GOLF”
good bye.
plz do ocean and circe saga later i love reading ppl's rants on epic. no matter how nonsensical
also this fandom will never let pregnant odysseus go, will it? penelope got him pregnant after 10 years of no contact cuz she is a QUEEN.
i like all these lines a lot too
but can i just add about the 'you're alone' thing? athena wanted him to be ruthless with the cyclops and not show mercy. odysseus saw that mindset as the reason she's alone.
by thunder saga, he has become the monster. he is ruthless. and by the end..he's alone.
rip

shameless advertising for this post cuz i think it's funny

Epic The Musical: The Ocean Saga
"It isn't very often that I get pissed off, I try to chill with the waves,"
...
...this is coming from the same god who made a woman fall in love with a magic bull because her husband didn't sacrifice it to the sea as promised.
...the same god who was offended because the Athenians didn't name their city after him, so he caused a lengthy drought. (I once heard a version where it was the women of Athens who tipped the votes in Athena's favor and Poseidon was so mad about it that he decreed women should not have a vote.)
...also took part an insurrection against Zeus.
...sent a sea monster after Troy because the king refused to pay him for his help in raising the walls. (Okay, but that one's legit.)
Tumblr media
Poseidon: "It isn't very often that I get pissed off"
Every other Olympian God:
Tumblr media
Different variations of the myth exist and, sure, maybe Poseidon isn't always portrayed with a temper and I loved the song (favorite one of the new installment,) but Poseidon the king of petty describing himself as 'chill' is sending me.

Unnecessary Underworld Saga thing that nobody asked for ever:
The Underworld:
- Warning the others immediately, thinking of them with everything going on
- Echoes and screams are all he can think of, talking about nightmares, haunted by his choices especially in the underworld
- All the men under his command, screaming his name, guilt, echoing Poseidon's words
- The idea that all of the men that died due to Poseidon are still screaming his name in hopes that he will safe them because he always painted himself as the rock of the army
- The anger they feel for his mercy of the Cyclops that led to their deaths, permeated with the helpless, desperate confusion of why their lives weren't as important as that of the Cyclops
- The fact that Odysseus managed to get all of them through the war but they died because of the decision he made to spare the Cyclops, meaning that if he hadn't chosen mercy they would have more likely still been alive
- Poseidon was right to say ruthlessness was mercy upon yourself, because then one does not have to feel the guilt if their choice of mercy was wrong, which is how Odysseus feels
- Can't even close his eyes to escape, because they're all around him
- Thinks of the infant he had to kill, guilt eating away at him - we ourselves cannot hear the infant because it was unable to even speak, so we hear it from Odysseus' own mouth, highlighting the remorse and guilt he feels for that one specifically
- Immediately hit with Polites right after his admission, the helpless way he says his best friend's name
- The soft way the music switches with this, emphasising the remorse and grief that comes with hearing Polites' voice
- The fact that the song is Polites talking about how amazing life is when one lets themself enjoy it, and it's a soft memory, because Polites was Odysseus' best friend, and Odysseus was (in his opinion) the cause of Polite's death.
- The idea that Odysseus lost sight of his best friend's advice, too lost in the war and caring about the others around him.
- The way Odysseus whispers Polites' name after hearing his echoey song, the pain in his voice at the loss of his best friend
- The small moment of silence before one hears that voice, the word 'waiting', and the surprised recognition in Odysseus' voice because he hadn't expected to hear it in this place of death
- His mother, who was always waiting the moment he left, who he didn't know had died and probably wouldn't until he had made it back home
- The idea that his mother was adamant on not dying until she saw her son again, and the pain that Odysseus feels as he whispers about 'taking too long'
- The pain in his voice as he murmurs 'mum' because he genuinely is shocked that she's here and he cannot comprehend that he wasn't back in time to see his mother
- How his mother must have felt on her deathbed, knowing that she wouldn't be able to see her son one last time before she died
- The gentle, almost hopeful melody that represents her hope that she would see her son again after the war was over, and the pain in Odysseus because he knows that he wasn't back in time to be there for her
- The fact that he still tries to soothe his mother even though he knows that she's gone and can't hear him, trying to reach out and tell her that he is there, even if he wasn't there when it was truly important
- More guilt as he realises that he will never see his mother because he took too long and went too far, the idea of the child leaving the mother's sight and never seeing her again
- The harmonising and repeating of 'waiting' from Odysseus, because now he will be the one waiting to see her again across life, and her still waiting for her son even in death, reassuring him that she will always love him despite everything
- The pause of the ocean and the sound of the boat moving as the voice fades out, leaving Odysseus with just his thoughts, the pain in his voice as he murmurs his last ever goodbye to his mother, and she can't even hear him
- The sharp rise in screams and the way that Odysseus screams the next lines, emphasising the guilt and anguish he's feeling through this journey, can't escape
- The fact that the others harmonise, because they must be seeing their own things as well, because they have been through so much as well -> What are they seeing that Odysseus isn't?
No Longer You:
- The prophet greeting them, because he knew they were coming, sounding solemn as he sings gracefully
- Solemn as he explains that there is a world where he does help Odysseus and his crew, but that is not a world that he knows, meaning he won't help them
- The confusion and accusation in Odysseus' response of 'what'
- The prophet saying that he does see the way that Odysseus does get home, through betrayal and hardship, seeing how he dies, then ripping it all away with the fact that Odysseus is no longer that man
- Brings it back to “Keep Your Friends Close” when Odysseus tries to say that everything has changed but he is still the same, and the prophet taking away that small security he had
- The pain and anger in Odysseus' tone as he speaks of how they have suffered just to get help from the prophet, and now they're being told that he won't help them
- The prophet proclaiming of how he can see Odysseus' home bathed in the blood of the men who thought him dead (reference to the hundred suitors who stuck around Penelope during his absence) and the fact that he sees Penelope with a man (doesn't say the name of the man, describes him as having a trail of bodies, most likely Odysseus)
- The utter rage in Odysseus' voice as he cries "who", because how dare someone take the last thing he has left keeping him going and so determined to get home
- The idea that this opera is the screams finally getting to Odysseus
Monster:
- The confusion of how everything has changed highlighting that he genuinely didn't see it changing, which is why its such a shock: suffering never ceasing, everything turning against the well meaning soldiers
- The once determined Odysseus now helplessly asking how he could ever see Penelope and his son again, showing that he is at a loss of what to do after suffering so much
- Asking if he needs to change to make something happen, after all of the effort he put into trying to stay the same; the final barrier being broken
- Being surrounded by all those deaths he believes himself to be responsible for, wondering if they're there because he was so stubborn in trying not to change
- Crossing everyone's lines but his own, the guilt in that recognition and idea that he may be the greatest threat, suddenly doubting himself and his views, wondering if it was all his fault
- Literally questioning everything about himself, blaming himself and calling himself a monster even with all of the pain he himself has been through to try and keep everyone safe
- Questioning if he has been too kind to those trying to harm him, and wondering if that impacted on those he tried so valiantly to protect
- Wondering if the Cyclops ever feels guilty for his murders and mistakes, or if he killed a few of Odysseus' men to avenge his fallen friend and feel confident in himself (the supposed monster reacting better than Odysseus to avenge his friend -> “Remember Them” instead of avenging them like the Cyclops did)
- Wondering if Circe is insane for protecting her nymphs by turning men to pigs, or if she changed to be colder and less guilty just so her nymphs didn't have to and she could protect them better (The idea that Odysseus was unable to change to save his men but the supposed witch was able to to protect those she cared about)
- Wondering if Poseidon feels fear when he kills the mortals for disrespecting him, or if he does what is necessary to protect himself by killing them as a warning to those and gaining respect that he needs (The idea that Odysseus was too scared to stop dissent within the army that could have him killed, while the supposed tyrant god did what he had to to ensure that people knew the consequences of disrespecting him)
- Wondering if the soldier using a wooden horse to invade Troy was vile, or if he was willing to put his own guilt aside to save the lives of so many others (The idea that Odysseus was so determined to stick to his moral code that he let hundreds die for it, while the supposed villain was willing to put aside his own moral code to save hundreds)
- So called monsters being able to do what Odysseus should have done
- Questioning what would happen if Odysseus became one of those so called monsters, doing whatever necessary to return home to his wife and child, as well as save the lady few men that he has under his command
- Odysseus echoing Poseidon's words emphasising a change in views, finally understanding what the god meant when he told Odysseus what he did, changing a character and finally ready to do it
- Listing all those he lost because he was too scared to change because he didn't know what would happen to him if it happened, guilt permeating it because he wonders if they would still be alive if he had changed
- The idea of not seeing his wife and son being the final straw for Odysseus, what pushes him across the line and breaks the final string holding together his moral compass; he will do anything to see his family again, no matter the cost
- willing to throw away his humanity so that he can see his family and keep others from dying, even going as far as saying that he is willing to kill another infant if it means they can do this, willing to go up against any gods and monsters
- He is willing to become the monster, finally willing to change and twist himself into something that nobody will recognise after everything that has happened to him; literally throwing away his humanity, warping into something else (like Circe)
- Knowing that he must become the monster in order to go home, questioning what the fuck is wrong with becoming the monster, finally allowing himself to be a lot more selfish
- Selfishness for himself over selfishness of others ruined him, so he's saying fuck it
- The last jarring sting emphasising the change of our hero to something unpredictable and monstrous
