Who the fuck would Astaroth be? I have no idea. But I think they’re definitely somewhere in the series, either to be introduced next season or has been laying low somewhere as someone we already know

Anyways, I don’t think there’s seven Princes, but I do think there’s one more major demon in play that we just don’t know about yet

Though I do have to say Astaroth is often depicted holding a serpent and giving mortals the power over snakes so like…

Hi I’m gonna go crazy go stupid over Ineffable Bureaucracy for just a second

It’s the way they look at each other. With Aziraphale and Crowley we see how they look in each other’s direction, but with Beelzebub and Gabriel it’s how they look at each other that drives me absolutely bonkers. You can see Bee fall first, it’s the look on zir face, in zir eyes when zi’s talking to Gabriel. It makes sense, Bee is Fallen, zi wants, zi covets, zi’s Gluttony. But, as we see with Demons, zi says nothing, zi looks at Gabriel with the same longing we see with Crowley, especially at the statue.

I know the statue is obviously of Gabriel, but I think it also represents Heaven. It is everything Gabriel feels he must be, because Heaven says so, and he sees beauty in that. But unlike Aziraphale, Gabriel looks away from that role, from Heaven, and sees Beelzebub. He sees zir, and I think he likes who he is in zir eyes more than he likes who Heaven depicts him to be.

It’s the fact that Gabriel made the first compromise, that he stopped and listened to the music Bee said zi liked. And decided he liked it, simply because Bee did, and it makes zir smile. I have the distinct feeling Bee isn’t used to just, being able to like something and not have it challenged.

And Bee gives Gabriel a fly, which I think represents so much it makes me want to cry. It is a piece of zirself. Not something carried down from Heaven, but it is Hell, and Beelzebub is giving that up, letting go of that piece of zirself. Lord of the Flies, Prince Regent of Hell, to Gabriel. Because he is more important. Gluttony, for the first time, gives. And it is the first gift Gabriel has ever been given. Gabriel turns from Heaven and Beelzebub relinquishes Hell, two things I don’t think anyone thought those two capable of doing. Because they find they like who they are better, with each other.

I could write an entire fucking essay on these two and all the symbolic ways they give and curve and ebb and flow to fit with and around each other. They compromise, they communicate, they listen and remember and they let themselves be made better by being around each other.

Hereditary enemies who trust each other entirely. I will never get over the softness that they look at each other with. I will never ever get past how gently they speak to and hold one another. Two titans, two of arguably the most powerful creatures in all of creation, find something better in the soft space they make together.

And it’s really that simple
