Long Post. TW Pet Loss.

Today we made the difficult decision to let Jack go. I've been meaning to do an introduction post for a while complete with pictures, but I hadn't gotten around to it. Jack is the cat in my icon at least, so there's one of the cutest pics I have of him. Most of the other cute ones are from when he was asleep or didn't know I was photographing him. He was very protective of his image, and it helped that he was born during a time when cameras still couldn't capture the void essence very well.

He was the king of the house, ruler of the roost, and grade-A asshole that controlled our lives (in the best way possible of course). There really aren't words to describe what our lives are going to be like now because we have no idea. He's the one who determined meal times for the entire house, snuggles VS no snuggles, and when I should actually wake up when it wasn't a work day. He would regularly take over my bed in his later years, and he spent the bulk of his earlier ones being kept out of places (unsuccessfully).

There are so many stories I could tell about him, but since this is my first time talking about the actual 4-trenchcoat-cats, I'll give everyone his introduction to us. It's only fitting folks see how it all began.

Picture it, 2009. We still had our larger dog then, and she spent her days sunning in our front yard whenever it was cool enough (and hoping we'd forget her when it rained). She was our ruler back then, and one day we noticed her eying our wood pile with considerable interest. There was no getting her away from it.

Then we heard it, sharp meows that could only come from the tiniest of kittens. He was the shade of the shadows and blended in well, but we spotted him, and knowing he couldn't fend for himself, we brought him inside.

We were a dogs-only household, firmly dog people. We'd started feeding some outside cats, but we'd never had one indoors. And now this little black menace was demanding food and attention, and well, we fell for it. I guess he always knew this was where he was supposed to be, and it's also one of the best origin stories of the lot seeing that the others just sort of showed up.

It's also only fitting he passed now. We lost that dog the following Thanksgiving, and now we've said goodbye to him just short of Christmas. I think the two of them wanted to be remembered, and I'm grateful for that. If it weren't for Facebook memories, I wouldn't be able to keep up.

He'll be our first that we cremate. It's only fitting that his final resting place be where he can watch us and judge us for our poor life choices, watch over our mealtimes with a hawk-like eye, and probably haunt us a little because why not? A guy has to have hobbies.

He leaves behind a sissy who doesn't know what to do with herself at. all., but I'm managing. Our two human parents who are also at a state of What Now? after so many years of trying to keep him alive, this was not a short journey. Lastly, the now three trenchcoat cats are going to do their best to honor his memory, but I just know they'll come up a little short. A new era is beginning, and I don't think it's hit them yet. I don't think it ever will if I'm being honest. How do you move on after a purricane/clawnado/meowquake rattles your life for so long?

I'm off from work so I already was planning on spending less time here (thank you satellite internet), but I don't see things changing much when I do get good browsing time again. I will forever see black cats as #jack jack cats, and any antics I come across with #jack jack energy need to be noted dutifully. I will honor his memory by pretending to carry on like something earth-shattering hasn't hit us at full force.

And, for good measure because every obituary should have a good picture, here's a proper picture of my boy taking over my bed and living his best life.

anon, I am so sorry and I mean this in the best way, but I do think episode 5 is the absolute funniest place to have stopped following Twst because shit starts escalating SO fast after that. episode 6 literally starts with a secret government shadow agency breaking down our doors and kidnapping students. zero to a million instantly.

and like...that's not even the zaniest thing so far? Ortho's hacked into the collective human unconscious. there's time travel (sort of). "Crowley might be Malleus' long-lost father" is a serious theory. if you'd told me any of this back pre-episode 6, I would have asked for the link to this unbelievable but highly intriguing fanfic.

also, episode 7 gave us (and then immediately took away 😔) the best character in the whole story:

I still need to watch Season of the of series as well as 3 and 4 of A&B. I might also go back and watch Calico-centric episodes to see if I can come up with more

-Messy lovelife, but settled down when he found out that he accidentally got one of his mistresses pregnant. (Partly based off of the real Calico Jack)

-The kid died yrs later during a ship wreck (or maybe she's still alive??)

-Was known as a ruthless fucker, but settled down a bit after having a kid. And completely stopped for Kwazii.

-Tried to be a good father, but wasn't the best one. He's an even better Grandfather though.

-I may or may not, lowkey, ship Natquick and Callie, bc why not??

-I think eye problems run in the family, like, I think both him and Kwazii have some light sensitivity in their respective eyes. They can see out of them, they're just weirdly sensitive to light. (No, it's not bc of the eye patches)

-I saw someone else headcanon that he lost his leg in a monster attack, and I absolutely agree

-a tad scrawny from his time in the Amazon.

-Desperately wanted to write to Kwazii, but the letters were either lost, or he just didn't send them

-Gave him a gold tooth, bc why not??

-Taught Kwazii how to sword fight when he was younger.

-Wasn't the most present, but made a point to try to visit Kwazii at least once a year

-It's a wonder how his leg hasn't broken yet, like genuinely.

-Saw a headcanon that he can't sleep in complete quiet, and I agree. I also think he'd sleep on the side with his bad eye(Like how Zuko from ATLA sleeps around people he doesn't trust)

-Either sleeps, curled up in a ball, or on his back, ready for action

-Is prepared to kill for anyone he loves

-Stupidly proud of Kwazii, and if it's brought up, he'll brag for hours abt how proud he is of Kwazii.

-Likes singing Sea Shanties with Barnacles and Kwazii. The ones he sings have slightly different lyrics than Barnacles

My husband and I, with our cat, were watching an episode of Bones. In the episode, Zack had a robot that responded to voice commands, but they were screwed up, and he was trying to fix them. At one point, the robot was standing there and Hodgins shouts, "Sit!" The robot walked off the table. I turned to my husband and said, "That would be you." He agreed, then shouted sit. Our cat stood up from sitting on his shoulder, climbed down his chest, walked across his leg, jumped down from his knee, and walked out of the room. We laughed so hard.

i'm ngl my star trek au au is mostly running on vibes wbwbwb so it is pretty kind and happy and warm (i just really like how much everyone in the enterprise's crew has such a respect and care for each other yknow. found family and all that innit).

that being said, here are some funky things about the characters ive been thinking about lately (under a cut because i'm incapable of being concise):

the stars were essentially jack's santa fe. he grew up surrounded by stories of starship captains and space and it became his lifelong dream and ambition to captain a starship, something which he dropped everything to attain. now he is captain of a starship– one of the youngest in starfleet's history– and it's wonderful and fantastic and he's never felt more alive! but there's always something gnawing at the back of his mind (he's based his entire life up until this point around this moment, it was a driving force and a beacon to look up to when times were tough. what if the experience is nothing like his dreams and he ends up disappointed? what happens when the mission's over? what'll become of him?).

also starfleet's assigned him a galaxy-class starship with families onboard and he's having a Time because of it (what if they get hurt under his watch. what if he gives the wrong order and a child dies. starfleet officers know the risks of space travel and are aware of this but the families. the children). other than that he's having a great time !!

kath's half-betazoid on her mother's side, but she never knew her mother nor has she ever been to betazoid (i really went woe! being mixed and only connected to one of your cultures but still being unable to fit in even there because of the fact that you're mixed be upon ye!). she's trying real hard to learn more about betazoid and who her mother is even though she knows she won't really feel like she "belongs" in betazoid either. she's working on understanding and using her empathic/telepathic powers more.

oh also!! pulitzer is a notorious and not-well liked admiral, when kath joined the acedmy she officially had her name changed to plumber and has since told no-one that they're related (this surely won't backfire terribly on her in the future)

also because this is the spot (cat) show, kath loves spot (cat) and wants to babysit her and play with her but alas. she is allergic to cats

race cannot catch a break– he's got a massive losing streak at senior officer poker night, spot (cat) hates him, he can't grow a beard but every time theres an impostor/clone/mirror universe situation the other version of him always has a beard (this is half in jest but also it amuses me wbwb)

jokes aside, i've been having a whole bunch of race as first officer thoughts (and a lot of riker and race parallel thoughts but. that's another story). i don’t really know how to explain it other than the way riker acts in the last episode of tng season two (yes, the riker montage episode) when facing death (joking around and keeping up the appearance of flippancy and courage in the face of agonising death because he’s first officer and there are people who look up to him and he has to set an example) seemed very race and very kony to me, in a way. (youve got this to blame for riker beard race. im not sorry)

race is also one of the first people to advocate for les becoming acting ensign. he makes it very clear that he's in les' corner and makes himself responsible for his studies and sometimes his training (and he teaches him poker).

OH ALSO! sarah and davey didnt know les ws going to be onboard and only found out about his presence after they'd set off. did he sneak onboard?? mayyyybeee (he just really wants to be a starfleet officer). after the initial shock (and notifying their parents) sarah and davey start the Let Les on the Bridge campaign (letting him watch the bridge from the turbolift, helping out in sciences and engineering, etc etc) the that eventually leads to les becoming acting ensign. it reaches a point where most of jack's senior officers would probably mutiny all for this kid.

there's more stuff but i'll stop rambling now because, again, i have a problem with being concise wbwbw. thankyou soso much for the ask rizz once again i love your star trek au so much and am always eager to hear more wbwbw!!! :D
