Regardless, I'll remind that the minority indigenous groups I mentioned are in the context of a white majority, but white people do not have a monopoly on colonialism. Plenty of people don't want to be called Arab in MENA and plenty of people aren't sure that they'd classify themselves as Chinese or Russian in the sense that the West views national identity. But that kind of nuance probably isn't something I should bother with if we haven't made it past point 1.

When you've pictured hunting Gamzee down in this new world and kicking his scrawny ass, somehow you've always imagined it in some ill-gotten highblood megahive somewhere. That you'd find him living in squalorous luxury like any entitled highblood on Alternia, scheming and plotting.

The picture you got sent is of a flat gray beach, no hive in sight. Just a blurry figure with a mane of wild hair and curving horns, half-hidden behind a rock in front of an angry, stone-grey ocean. And now, all of a sudden, the word feral is back in your thinkpan and it won't come out.

I force my feet to move across the wilted and blackened grass. ... “Cardan,” I say in a whisper... As if in answer, the serpent draws back, neck curving in a swinging movement as though evaluating how best to strike.  “It’s Jude,” I say, and my voice cracks. “Jude. You like me, remember? You trust me.”  The serpent explodes into motion, sliding fast over the grass in my direction, closing the distance between us. Soldiers scatter. Horses rear up...Kelpies run for the sea. ... But the serpent pauses perhaps ten feet from where I am standing, winding around itself.  Looking at me with those gold-tipped eyes. 

I woke up in the early hours of the morning thinking about this scene, and how Snake Cardan heard Jude whisper his name from thirty feet away (It's canon that he's thirty feet away from her, by Jude's guess when she first sees him in the clearing). At the sound of her voice, he rushes across the distance between them and stops in the security position for snakes. (Snakes winding around themselves aren't positioning to strike. They're moving into a protective position.) What strikes me the most about this scene is that Cardan later tells Jude he only knew "hatred, terror, and the desire to destroy". So much so that he blackened the land and the trees wherever he slithered. So much so that anyone who came near him died.

He was himself, but he wasn't. But even in this stripped down form of himself, the mere sound of her whispering his name draws his attention, and he immediately RUSHES toward her and just...stops to rest in front of her. It's such a deep, primal sense of knowing someone and it makes me go absolutely feral. Even in snake form, he trusted her.

This also somewhat parallels the hedge maze scene in Cruel Prince, although I'm not sure it's intentional, when Cardan is high off his ass but still recognizes Jude by the sound of her cough.

I start coughing immediately. At that moment, Cardan's gaze goes to me. His eyes are barely open, but I can see the shine of them, wet as tar.

We talk a lot about how many small details Cardan notices about Jude's appearance from the get-go, but recognizing the tenor of someone's voice from a COUGH? Hearing their voice from thirty feet away when they're WHISPERING and you're A DAMN SNAKE???? HELP.

I can’t believe it’s been one month since the closing of Back to the Future on Broadway. It feels absolutely wild that one entire month has already passed (somehow it feels like it has been both longer and shorter than that!). I still can’t quite process that I was able to make it to NYC for closing weekend of the show; to say that I was there seems unreal.

I got interviewed right before the last show and it was finally posted, so here’s that for all y’all—still pleased that they asked me, and that I was able to string some good words together! There’s a bit of clipping and the like, but I do truly mean what I said about community and creative folks: I’m so glad this show brought me back into active fandom for Back to the Future, because I’ve gotten to meet some amazingly talented and kind folks in all of y’all.

The knowledge that a giant number of the people who made the b/y Fandom absolutely miserable by never shutting the fuck up about b/j were so fucking smug about getting their "owed" Laura/marisha pc romance only to have to swallow a functionally asexual relationship (and a plot heavy campaign that has allowed for very little of the character magic of c2 and even c1) genuinely makes me smile sometimes. Because there are some who took that very in stride and they're doing fine, they're here and going a little hard on the whole cottagecore thing because for some reason that's what fills any wlw space where sex is missing or downplayed, but that's no real big deal apart from the broader purity culture implications. The ones who think relationships should look a specific way, say, like beau and yasha did... Well those people left and we don't have to hear from them anymore and I think that's just beautiful. It's so peaceful.

Oh ho ho, you haven't seen a spookier fellow than this, just you wait til you run into this big scary boy! Witness the sheer horror of its pale skin, gangly limbs and big EEEEEEVIL TEETH! Frightening and unique! I've never seen such horror! Oh, you think he is smiling because he is happy and thus he just big friendly? OOOOOOH but this nasty fellow isn't actually nice smiling! Forever love that the only thing we know about how Pyrrha used to look is that she had crazy pale green eyes and I don't think I've seen a single depiction of her pre-lyctorhood that has those eyes. We said mmmkay muir but that woman had beautiful brown eyes you cant fool us.
