~{Heyyyy, I’m finally done being sick but I’m still taking it easy for a bit so I’ll just redo This Post Of Mine anyway to….whatever the fuck this is!}~

•The Motel•

For some Fucking reason Scarecrow and The Joker started a turf war around the Gotham docks and it was a mess of Scarecrow and Joker goons trying to beat up the other goons, fear and joker gas in the area, and some unfortunate civilians got caught in the cross fire and were running around and it was only a matter of time before someone on either side ended up dead.

So the bats got to work, Some were helping take down the goons others were beating the shit out of Scarecrow and the Joker for this mess and who were left helped get the civilians to one of the only good and somewhat cheap hospitals in Gotham and a few hours later the Gotham police force finally came down and started to take away the fucking army’s worth of goons and get Scarecrow and the Joker back in Arkham asylum.

But this fight didn’t go without incident, All of the bats has cuts, bruises and some other things that they couldn’t diagnose with Alfred or a scan but the worst were Tim who had a couple broken ribs, Stephanie to had a very bad cut on her shoulder that would most definitely leave a scar and Duke who was shot in the leg, so yeah all of the bats were ready to go back to the manner.

But of course the bats life’s can’t be that easy as when they were running on roof tops a sudden mist appeared around them. The mist was so thick that none of the bats could see through it, But Dick who was holding Duke as he could not walk on his own saw a few little balls of light before Dick could say anything as sudden as the mist appeared a blast of very cold wind blowed by them and the mist parted.

But they won’t in Gotham anymore.

The Bat were what looked to be a forest and even the time had changed what was a dark somg filled night was now a cold rain and cloudy day and the bats were in trouble with all of them being injured in some way and very tired as well as having no clue where they are but before they could do anything they saw the lights of a building and they went to the lights and they were met with a old looking motel.

There was a large sign in the front but it just looks like a mix of different languages that non of the bats knew off but Damian could tell a few words here and there and Jason who was mostly the same as Damien, so they went into what was probably the front desk and were met with a big burly old man that was probably in his 50s or 60s with a large grey beard and was wearing a white wife-beater shirt with a a dark red (or was it brown) thick coat behind the desk reading a book with a non descriptive cover.

The man took one look at them before getting up with a grunt and grabbing two of the rusty gold keys with the numbers “7, 8” on them from the pin-broad behind him and just passed them over to the bats with no words and sat back down and started to read his book again, and you could hear Stephanie say quietly “Mood” before they left and went to where there rooms should be.

Before they could open the doors they heard a door open from the second floor.

Specifically Room 12.

•Background•

If you had told Danny that in three years time that he would be.

•Dating Jonny 13 and Kitty

•has one more foot in the grave

•and be living out of a motel and having the time of his (After)Life

He would probably have looked at you like you lost your mind beat you up, soup you up and throw your ass back into the Ghost Zone and probably worry about it for a couple days before the next ghost decided to come around and find the fuck out.

But in Danny’s sophomore year his friendship with Sam and Tucker went into a downward spiral, Danny knew they felt guilty about being a cause for his death because they were the ones to tell Danny to get into it but Danny had already forgiven them for it as they were just kids and had no idea that would happen but it seems that they haven’t forgiven themselves as when they look at Danny their eyes are always filled with guilt and pity.

And how Danny hates that look so Sam and Tucker started to distance themselves from Danny can still sometimes feel their guilty eyes on him in the halls or in class but it’s alright as he has gotten very close with Jonny 13 and Kitty lately so he isn’t that lonely even with Sam and Tucker not talking to him and Jazz of at a college on the east coast and for the most part Danny’s sophomore year was going well.

Until one day when Danny was just flying around town he saw some blob ghost around a natural portal on the edge of town so Danny went over to heard them back into the Ghost Zone and he was almost done.

When the G.I.W and his parents pulled up and started to shooting at him and the blob ghost and of course Danny had no trouble dodging the shots until he felt a pain worse than the portal and Danny was thrown through the portal by the blast the last thing he saw before the natural portal closed behind him was his mother holding a new gun his parents have been working on all week.

So here Danny was floating through a unknown part of the Ghost Zone with a part of his side blasted out of him and that’s when he heard it the very familiar sound of a motorcycle that he has come to hear as it got closer he felt the misty arms of shadow grab him and put him in the arms of Kitty who wrapped her leather jacket around him and was holding him to her while telling Jonny to go faster.

Danny started to close his eyes as he knew he was going to be ok now.

[Don’t expect more of this part of this, I just made this post long as hell and if this is a bit incoherent just go to the OG post it explains what this is]

Danny and Kitty were sitting on a somewhat comfortable bench in front of the End-Motel next to Jonny who was working on the bike while cussing.

They had just come back from riding around and messing with people when two guys in a truck started to follow and shoot at them they of course got away after heading back to the End-Motel but not without incident, the assholes got a lucky shot at the bike’s engine but for the most part the only ones who got hurt was the wanna be ghost hunters as they almost crashed into a tree trying to follow them and all that was messed up with the trio was Danny’s hair and a bit of Kitty’s makeup but Danny and Kitty were helping the other with it.

And then the sudden sound of a wrench (idk what you use to fix bike engines) being thrown down onto the the concrete make Kitty and Danny look over to a very pissed off Jonny 13 “You okay baby?” Asks Kitty as she just about finishes fixing Danny long white hair into a messy bun.

“Yeah I’m fine just pissed, like how the fuck did those assholes get a shot like this I mean they didn’t even have proper aim!” Jonny says as he throws his arms up in anger over the situation, “How about we head up to our room and you can look at the bike later so you don’t end up taking out your anger on your poor tools” Danny says as he stands up and holds out a hand for Kitty which she takes and stands up as well and they both look over to Jonny who just sighs and gets up as he has been clearly out voted and wraps his arms around his partners as they walk up to their room.

A few days later Jonny wakes up to one less cold body on him on his left so he prop himself up on his arms while somehow not moving Danny who is laying on him to look for Kitty and sees her by the window looking down “Hey baby, what are you looking at” Jonny asks as he gets up and wakes over to where Kitty is looking.

“It seems the motel has more guests” she says not looking away from the new comers, Jonny looks back over to where Danny is still sleeping and pulls Danny out from the bed while saying “Come on hun, time to get up” and gives Danny a kiss on the forehead while Danny just grumble while trying to think about how to be conscious again, Jonny just laughs at him.

“Wait are those Livings?!” Kitty says as she looks closer at the new comers and that gets Jonny and Danny’s attention as they walk over to the window and yup those are Livings, just when Kitty starts to walk over to the room phone to report this to the boss Danny looks over in a area that is mostly hidden from view of their room unless your specifically looking at that area and Danny sighs and says “No they have a guide, the red one and the traffic light kid there close enough for the Boss to let in” as he points to the area where there are three a few steps from the main group of humans a tall red one and small traffic light kid and a pure black figure with a sewed up mouth, and Kitty nods “What are you talking about the red one is definitely human” Jonny say as he looks at the main group of humans.

Kitty and Danny look at him like his a dumbass

Kitty grabs the top of Jonny’s head and forcibly turns it to look at the little group of three “Oh yeah that would do it” says Jonny as he says that Danny moves over to where he put his leather jacket when they all when to sleep a few days ago and puts it on as he turns back to his now smirking partners who know what’s going to happen now.

“Let’s go say hi”

•People get called a lot of things by ghost like “Mortal”, “Living”, “Human” and because these are so commonly used by ghost everyone just knows what you mean when you say it

•D,K,J all live in Room 12 on the second floor (D,K,J mean Danny,Kitty,Jonny 13)

•All the signs are in Ghost-Speak for Livings it just looks like a keyboard smash or very fuzzy and for liminals it looks like a mix of random language and depending on how much you lean to one side it either looks like languages you know or not

•D,K,J sleep for the most part when in the Motel, they maybe chaotic but they know better then to be rude when in someone else’s Lair that they are letting you stay in

•The Boss as soon as he gives you a key tells you to report if you see any humans and he’ll take care of it

•The Boss is protective over all of his guests and will beat someone’s ass if they try some shit

•Kitty and Danny do each other’s makeup or help the other get ready

•D,K,J all sleep in the same bed ( Jonny in the middle, Kitty on the left and Danny on the right )

•Jonny 13 is a absolute simp over his very pretty partners

•The mist around the End-Motel acts like a kinda deterrent for humans it makes the the shoe on the back of your neck stand up and gives you an uneasy feeling but some people are just to dumb or determined to give a fuck and go in anyway 

•In the End-Motel rooms are what ever the guests could need like bandages or food

•The bats are losing their shit over the Motel and it’s secrets

•The room keys for 3, 12, 15, 27, 38 are permanently missing as someone is always in those rooms

•Danny has this sorta “Season Of The Witch” vibe to him

•Ghost can sleep for days on end and they don’t really get up unless they want to ~{ Advice from your local weird thing in the woods! Never wake up a ghost you will have to fight them and you will get punched in the face }~

•All the windows in the motel are one way which means whoever’s in the room can see you but you can’t see in

•All guests in the motel can tell when a new guest arrives that’s why Kitty woke up and Jonny wasn’t really that surprised, Danny knew too he’s just not a wake up person

Ah well first off, I'm not great with words, so apologies if this doesn't make sense, but I'll try my best! I think in pictures not in words, if that makes sense???

I wanted this au to be kind of a mix of both universes:

Soap well the initial idea I've had for him was that he used to be part of Konni (manipulated by Makarov basically). Their relationship would be kind of similar to Joker and Harley. He would leave him eventually and meet Ghost shortly after still not sure if I like this idea tho

Initially Gaz didn't like him very much. He thought he was really annoying, now they are best friends even though Gaz will deny it lol. Sometimes he tries to join Gaz on his heists but those tend to end too...explosively

I really like that og Soap draws in his journal, so I tried to implement it into this au - he likes to leave some sort of graffiti or street art at the scenes of his crimes like Jinx from Arcane lol

He has pet hyenas - the one he is petting in the last picture is called Roach :))

Ghost well for him I think his backstory would be very similar to his in game one (being betrayed, buried alive,etc.) except he would come out of the grave a bit wrong basically his Poison Ivy look. After that he would kind of drift aimlessly doing his best to avoid people, especially his family.

Until he meets Johnny :))

His design was honestly the hardest to make since Ivy is a character that shows a lot of skin and Ghost is well not that lol. Mushrooms are a big part of his design because of the inherent connection with rot and death - dead things getting new life through death insert the "you cannot kill me in any way that matters" post lol. He can grow different things than just fungus, mostly carnivorous plants.

Gaz in this is most like his DC counterpart I guess. Basically "steals from the rich gives to the poor" type of character. He likes to feed the street cats and knows them all by names. He dislikes Soaps hyenas.

Also I've seen someone asking who Price would be and honestly I'm not really sure yet but I'm open to suggestions

So um yeah I'm going to cut it here because it's getting too long. Hope at least some of this makes sense haha ^^

The best local underground music I heard this year:

really incredible folk punk rock; this track in particular is very upbeat with a bluegrass feel. perfect for fans of Heretic Pride or Goths-era mountain goats; Aria's voice and arrangements have a very similar quality. a friend of his in a different act described Coffin Salesman as "The best band in Boston"

Thou Merciless Graves is a concept project written by lead singer and guitarist Growler Graves (Caitlin) after two battles with breast cancer. The show is about a selkie whose skin is taken by a lighthouse keeper and her relationship with him as he tries to get it back. It won two huge awards at the Boston Fringe and involved a gorgeous cast of bioluminescent jellyfish (umbrellas) and eel (think Chinese dragon) and a lighthouse keeper on stilts in a yellow slicker, hunched over like a tumor. Not all the music is on spotify yet, but this will give you a taste of how amazing it is.

Eden is a freshman at Berkelee and all her players are incredibly talented young students as well! The production value is probably the closest to professional as anyone on this list; Aruna's influences are in the wheelhouse of Billie Eilish and Clairo. Dreamy, breathy, longing-pop.

This is the title track and final track on my friend Justin's album which just came out a few days ago. We actually met at a Mountain Goats show, but by contrast Justin favors the more stripped, acoustic, Zopilote/West Texas sound. She and her girlfriend have such an enviously lovely queer community atmosphere developed out in rural MA where they just opened a performance space. Really the GOATs of lifting up fellow queer creatives and fighting the power.

My friend Aria of Coffin Salesman does a music discovery podcast and this is just hands down my favorite song he's ever shared. So good.

Bluesy, romantic offering from my friend and coworker Tyler who has written and sold songs for one of the most achingly romantic voices on the radio right now... though I won't say who 🤫. "The names" are also all really incredible players; the organist in particular does some really incredible stuff all over their spotify. This song is one of their gentlest offerings; they can really turn it up to 11 on the chaos.

Currently touring America, this guy is fucking nuts. Confessional, personal folk punk kind of like if Kimya Dawson were a little bit older and a little more nuts. This is an incredible album.

Outta Western MA, this guy has the cacophonic elements of Tyler and the Names with the orchestral sophistication of Neutral Milk Hotel or Frank Zappa. It's hard to pick a single off this album, as its cohesive overall arc is a huge part of it, but if you like the taste you should listen to the album beginning to end. Chris performs in a ski mask and the performances are often rearranged, interactive, and one-of-a-kind, with many props, lights, etc.

More stripped acoustic confessional folk punk sung by a whiny voice; do you think I have a type? 🤔 lmao.

This guy is 4 years sober after being really really big in the scene and falling hard. These days his stuff pushes the limits of the form, much like the Leafies but in a very different way. Chris is an incredible poet with an incredible voice.

Closing it out with another big party banger like White Girl, Wasted. Originally from Scotland, I saw Goodbye Blue Monday's first US show when they opened for Coffin Salesman. Good classic rock to thrash around to about experiences being bipolar and such. Really good fun.

what was really special about this is that I started going to shows chiefly to see my friend Tyler (Had to Let You Know) and discovered everybody else by meeting other acts on the bill, following them on insta, and going to their shows, on this incredible self-fulfilling upward spiral feedback loop tailored to taste.

most of these songs have <2000 streams on spotify, so they're really quite small, and your listening to them makes a huge difference! so thank you if you give them a chance 🖤 I have had the time of my life discovering the scene and I can't wait to share more with you. Today Variety (see above) had an article naming Heidi Schreck as the new writer for the live action She-Ra series at Amazon that was announced back in Sept 2021 and, after seeing dozens of terrible takes and people who are fans of the Netflix's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2017) freaking out, let's talk about this, shall we?

Disclaimer that I do not have any insider knowledge of this project specifically, this is just my educated perspective from my experience with IP and TV.

First and foremost, I will believe this project is actually happening when it is showing on my TV and not a moment sooner. Let's just say that.

Now assuming it IS happening, here's what you should understand...

IP is usually use it or lose it. If Dreamworks wants to keep the rights to make She-Ra content, they very likely must have something in active development or risk listing it. If Netflix isn't willing to make more of the animated series right now, then the Amazon deal is all they have or give She-Ra up entirely. 

If you're an SPOP (2017) fan, you're in favor of Dreamworks retaining the license over losing it because, so long as they have it, the door is always open for more of our SPOP in one way or another. This reboot doesn't negate the possibility of a continuation of the animated version or vice versa. (Fans of frequently rebooted properties like TMNT and MLP would be happy to tell you about how there's been content for multiple gens at the same time.) It's not like the new version erases the old. If anything, a reboot often makes it more likely you get content of a past gen because of renewed interest in the property as a whole.

"But what if it's sexist trash!" The biggest fear people had about this reboot was that it would be some male gaze disaster made to please the worst kind of people who hate all kinds of diversity. Obviously, we'll see what we get, but the fact that they specifically got a feminist playwright as the writer is a big thing should alleviate some of that fear.

"But will it be gay????" I've seen lots of freaking out that Adora's going to kill Catra and marry a man on her grave and other equally unlikely fears. And the fact is: We don't know if it will be gay! With this writer, the gay door certainly isn't closed, but that doesn't mean it's open either. But honestly the real question you should be asking is: will it be explicitly gay? Because the rainbow homo-eroticism is baked right into She-Ra OG so even if we don't get an explicit same-sex kiss on screen... it's likely still gonna be pretty gay.

Even a bad or infuriating reboot will revitalize the fandom and bring new fans to SPOP (2017) AND increase the chances of continuation. Say the new show is terrible. Say they annoy everyone by giving Catra and Adora a supercorp queerbaiting thing and then never make it canon or make Catra and Hordak in love and everyone is mad. (Which I feel obligated to point out is *extremely* unlikely as this is literally still Dreamworks' show. They are the same people that gave you the gay. They are keenly aware of what their audience wants so, even if they are reluctant to make it canon, at the least they are probably going to tease it.) But even in the worst case scenario of the straightest possible version of She-Ra, what are people going to do if the new show pisses them off? Turn back to She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, create more fanworks, interact with what's already there, keep the fandom alive for everyone. You want that!

"Well SPOP (2017) was perfect and they should never be allowed to make another version of She-Ra again unless it's just like the thing we just got!" Wow, where have I heard something like that before? Oh yeah, that's exactly what the nightmare chuds said about Netflix's She-Ra and if they had gotten their way, we wouldn't have had this show we love. So maybe take a nice deep breath, chill tf out and look at that fact that there is no reason yet to see this announcement as anything other than a good thing for both this new reboot and the animated version's future.

I wonder how Tanwyn feels now that Cassians mate and her friends are completely ruining AND disrespecting the Valkyrie name

Its specifically cassian (and the night court's inner circle as a whole as they're the primary pushers of the canon valks as they are) that tanwyn would be turning in her grave over, not the fact that there's new gen valkyries at all. (Though I do think she'd be a little skeptical, realistically speaking)

You see, my main problem with tanwyn being a footnote for readers to emphasize with cassian has to do with well, cassian himself and the narrative as a whole. There are many people who spoke far more eloquently about how sjm uses (and justifies) systemic oppression, feminism, slavery and politics as a whole for aesthetics rather than actually interacting with the appropriate gravity of these themes. Why do a second draft when you can write your self insert playing out your non/dubcon fantasies with your Gary stu instead? 🙄

This is why I feel like tanwyn sticks out so much in acosf to me.

If you take away the sorry excuse of a romance, acosf is about nesta trying, failing and dubiosly beginning to heal from her trauma through befriending gwyn and emerie, with the history of the valkyries empowering the trio into starting a new generation of the legendary warriors. We later find out that in the metaplot these warriors are narratively important to the series' past and future, especially with the dusk court plot threads. This by nature makes tanwyn one of the most narratively important characters in the series from the pre canon timeline. She, like Claire and Andras, should haunt the narrative.

Characters should be talking about her, what she and her sworn sisters had done for prythian and the fae world at large. There should be notes and journals left behind by her that contains crucial information about how the legion operated in her time. There should've been memorials that are all over prythian, that go unnamed and are a constant up until its revealed they celebrate the og valkyries sacrifice in the war (what war? Presumably the slave's war, on the side of humans/freedom) Tanwyn should've been long shadow that the neo valkyrie trio illuminates in honor of her, not another person in the fridge.

Tanwyn, like many of the cooler side characters that are massacred for the sake of sjm's protags (fly high nehemia,, you were such a baddie) is given none of that weight. She becomes a plot device to show how sad wittle cassian is and how he can never measure up to the ideals in his head because he is a "poor wittle bby" who gets bullied by the literal devil (nesta).

It's super egregious too because we find out tanwyn is a huge motivation in him pushing for the valkyrie army, because he misses fighting alongside her. He is encouraging and insisting illyrian women, who still don't have rights or safety nets, to join the neo valkyrie army; to fight and die for a court and ruler who hates them, for a nostalgic fantasy. He actively broke down a depressed woman (that is his mate) into becoming a warriors for his fantasy ideal that probably didn't even exist in the first place. If that's not butchering a legacy, I don't want to know what is.

So no, if tanwyn was suddenly resurrected and dropped into the plot, I don't think she'd snub her nose at nesta and her friends; they'd be welcomed with open arms. But she'd be flaying cassian and buddies alive for shitting on centuries of legacy because he misses the idea of her.

I have another authorial ask. Whenever I offer a critique on how serious Luz' behavior in the principal's office was and how much trouble she was actually in, stans dismiss it by claiming that was all done for comedic effect. That it was basically slapstick and not to be taken seriously.

From an author's standpoint how does one determine if an incident depicted in a story is to be taken seriously or dismissed as a comedic exaggeration? In an age of school shootings and the fear students and parents have of them how could anyone consider a scene of children running through the halls of a school screaming in terror be taken as comedy. How many times has the actual news shown children fleeing a school building surrounded by police cars? Remember how media was affected by 9/11? How do you tell your readers when incidents depicted in your stories are to be taken seriously or are to be dismissed as comedy? In your opinion do you view Luz' visit to the principal's office and the behavior that brought her there as something to be taken seriously or was intended as comedy?

I LOVE this ask because it is one of the biggest examples of how TOH wants its cake and to eat it too and how that nukes the whole thing. The short answer to this is: Framing. Of course, how to frame something is incredibly complicated so let's get into this.

"You walk into a room and there are three people there. Two are sitting in chairs and the last is a clown."

This would be a neutral framing to entering a pretty shitty birthday party. You can glean additional details by things like how few people there are but it is for the most part very functional. Let's shift it though.

"You can hear the sounds of laughter behind the door. Katy Perry's Friday Night is blaring through the distorted speaker of a phone that has been dropped one too many times and suddenly it stops dead and you hear the shuffling of feet and the slamming of chairs. You open the door a crack, your excitement bubbling up as you see Bozo the Clown standing there, his long, red nose deflating as he says, "Aw shucks, looks like you got me! Who wants to pick the next song?"

This has a more excited, anticipatory framing. It builds in energy as the various elements come together until finally revealing the scene properly. Any potential tension is ended with a giggle as you realize the kids are just playing musical chairs with the clown they've hired. Still not a great birthday party but it has fun, mirth and a warmth to it. One more shift though.

"You hear the stomping of feet and the distorted sounds of a withering speaker, its beats dying midway through each vomited note. The sound is a raucous choir of disharmony, not following the beat, rhythm or flow. It is frantic, scared and in a panic. Then, the music cuts out, leaving you with only the screeching of wood against metal. Then silence. You open the door a crack, shaking in your boots as you peer in. The bulb above is half burnt out, casting everything in thick shadows. Two kids sit in chairs, their heads back and their dead eyes staring at the ceiling as they raggedly gasp for air. Above them, large, red hair casts shadows upon a face as pale as death. His smile is so wide it must be unnatural. His nose, long and pointed is so red that it must only be blood that covers it. He looms over the children, hands flexing as he says, low and gravely, "Aw shucks, looks like you got me. Who wants to pick the next song?"

And there you have horror. The facts of the matter between these three have not changed. None of the details are any different. However, which details to focus on, which to include and which to not, HAVE changed. That creates a frame within which to view the information. So, how does this apply to Luz's montage with the principle?

Well, the OG framing is that of a silly girl doing silly things. We might see some people gasp or cover their mouths but it mostly just focuses squarely on Luz. We also don't see much harm and what harm we see is silly. This is why Luz is the one covered in spiders and not treating it like a big deal, or why the boy who runs with a snake in his hair has a snake in his hair. That's silly and couple with the Azura bit right before creates a vibe on unreality. It makes a tone that supports going a little bit far with a joke to get a bigger laugh out of the audience. Amphibia does this sort of stuff CONSTANTLY. Most cartoons do in fact. It's how you get these episodic plots that in reality would be reprehensible but in fiction are fun. After all, no one is really commenting that Luz might be wrong or might have gone too far. The base level problem is that she didn't do her assignment correctly and was maybe a little too creative.

"You had it good!"

And in one sentence, the frame shatters. Right before the shortening took effect, so that excuse is out the window, we got Yesterday's Lie. An episode essentially about reframing Luz's actions and asking whether or not they were okay. Was she actually right to run from home when she has a loving mom who supports her this thoroughly? Did she have to go so far for attention when others in her town are just as weird as her, like Masha's gang? Are Luz's claims to being misunderstood and rejected when someone not of this world can find more friends than her?

You are bluntly told to go back and re-evaluate episode one... And a framing of unreality doesn't work with that. They joke about Amity almost killing Luz. Amphibia brushes off stuff like Hop Pop's mind control stint. This is because treating these moments seriously breaks their framing because you are replacing it with the exact opposite. These plots are meant to be fun after all and what you take seriously is the lesson learned, not the conflict that taught the lesson. Well... Now you need to pay attention to the conflict.

And what is it? Luz first disrupts a practice session by belittling someone else's accomplishment and people wanting to give her praise to then show off and try to make herself the focus of attention with her own trick. Then she ruins a play performance, MONTHS of work, by going off script and clearly doing things that weren't cleared by her director and fellow cast members, causing them to react in aghast horror. Finally, she releases what appear to be HUNDREDS of spiders in a public school. Worse yet, outside of the montage, she has brought lives snakes with no way to control them into a public school, without permission, and straight up broken the law by bringing FIREWORKS, and them bundled together like a BOMB, to school. Taking that seriously results in WHAT THE FLYING FUCK YOU ATTENTION HOG LITTLE BITCH! What is wrong with you!? Do you genuinely not think about anyone or anything else other than how awesome something is going to make you appear?

And that shifts the framing of a lot of her other actions. Her wanting to go on a quest? Yep, that's just now who she is instead of her being misguided. Her wanting to get with Amity because she wants to fulfill a narrative trope that will make her more special? Sounds about right rather than a cute flair. Her CONSTANTLY fucking things up for other people before going "Shit, right, this has consequences," and then having to go fix them? Sounds like what she's been doing for at least a year. Even going forward, her lying just looks like more of a way for her to look better. So people praise her and let her do whatever she wants instead of actually having to care about other people and admit she was wrong. Ever.

But the show doesn't understand this is what they've done. They thought this was just a dramatic touch for a mid season finale and the framing of Luz hasn't changed at all. That she is still the purely good protagonist that lives in an unreal framing. This is how you get the incredibly tone deaf, hypocritical fact that the Titan condemns Belos for having a hero complex... Before then Luz comes back to life in a big hero moment and berates herself for not having a good one liner. You know, like someone with a hero complex might. Someone who might, I dunno, fully embrace their fictional hero's identity by mimicking almost exactly a speech from them but now with zero pretense of seeing themselves as the hero of the story. Because, I mean, she's just a silly little girl, isn't she?

No. No show. You fucked this. You fucked this ROYAL, especially as it doubled down on trying to treat Luz more seriously and like she potentially wasn't beyond reproach. That she didn't just make mistakes but genuinely needed to change, even as the show refused to commit to having her learn literally anything.

She starts the show as an attention seeking, lying, selfish bitch and she ends the show that way. You just would have never seen her like that had the show not antagonized you to do so. If it hadn't purposefully framed the question right in your face. See you next tale.

I do find it interesting that you (the asker) like to go "By your authorial opinion". I don't mind it but I actually try not to very often go "As a professional writer!" I might bring up my own works but just as examples. I am self published though and even if I were traditionally published, PLENTY of bad writers still become professionals. I made a poster for my Walten Files AU that centers around the holiday special antagonists today.

Yes, I based it off that concept poster for Shin Godzilla.

Here's the lore summarized the best way I can(trigger warning for murder, burning and mental breakdowns):

Basically, it involves the holiday special characters (Boozoo's Ghosts and The Mysterious House).

They basically came from an obscure restaurant/playhouse called "Prezzy's Wonderland"(Willy's Wonderland reference, lol).

The animatronics are:

Mortality(originally named Prezzy)

Jolly the Sheep

Sad the Clown

Pumpkin Rabbit

Witch Sheep(full name Willow the Witch Sheep)

TVA

Jonkler(this is just a placeholder name I recently made for Halloween Billy, so please don't get used to it just in case).

The animatronics, like in my FNAF AU, are sentient(think Security Breach) and have their own individual personalities. The restaurant is acknowledged by Jack Walten and Felix Kranken and even liked by them.

It was somewhat well known, so it had its reoccurring customers but the owners didn't mind. Two particular reoccurring customers were Lily Anderson and her mother Gloria, Lily often brought a plush bunny named Daisy (keep this in mind).

Things were going quite well until one day, on Lily's 12th birthday when she and Gloria were about to head home(it was kinda late and they were the last to leave), a man named Richard Winston murdered the both of them outside. Prezzy heard the commotion and rushed over to the door to unlock it but it was stuck and by the time he finally managed to get out to see what was happening, it was too late, Lily and Gloria were murdered and the man was running away from the scene.

This broke Prezzy mentally and emotionally, causing him to have a breakdown, a nightguard came out and saw the scene, also scared and decided to call the owners, the police and an ambulance.

They investigated the footage and saw the murderer and are willing to try and find him whilst Prezzy was just sitting down on the stage in silence whilst gently holding Daisy(the plushie) and meanwhile, the other animatronics tried to comfort him.

Two weeks have passed and Prezzy wasn't really doing well(grief is a real bitch), often mumbling to himself, standing by himself in darkness all the while holding the plushie in his hand. At some points, he'd either act manic under pressure or just sit there listening to random music boxes(mostly Lily's favorite song which was "Daisy Bell").

One night when it was around midnight, Pumpkin Rabbit was wondering around when he heard a strange noise in Parts and Service, he wandered in curiously when the door shut and barricaded behind him, startling him. The same man(Richard) from the incident from two weeks ago approached Pumpkin and then he set the rabbit ablaze. Pumpkin Rabbit was freaking out, gasping for air and straight up afraid whilst the man stood there and watched with a sinister grin. Willow heard the commotion and rushed over to Parts and Service and tried to open the door, calling out to Pumpkin, clearly fearing for him and eventually, she managed to open the door and when she saw the scene, she screamed in horror, grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the flames.

She sat on the floor and held Pumpkin whose face was now melted(he's alive though, don't worry) and looked up at the man with horror and disgust.

The next day came and the employees were shocked and what made matters worse was that they ran out of the materials for Pumpkin's face and couldn't afford it but a employee made a mask(think of the one Pumpkin Rabbit had in the OG vid) and gave it to him but it just wasn't the same.

Pumpkin Rabbit had breathing problems and pyrophobia as a result of the incident. One day, the place was shut down which devastated folks especially since one of the owners who was the creator of the characters(in universe) was gravely ill and then died days later.

This left the employees unemployed and the animatronics pretty much have to live in the now abandoned restaurant. The incident with the fire and the creator's death was the final straw for Prezzy, these incidents made him go mad and hungry for revenge.

Three months have passed since the place closed, the animatronics end up gaining supernatural abilities(I'll think of an origin for that).

Prezzy decided to change his name to Mortality(he's still ok with being referred to as Prezzy from time to time).

As far as that plushie, Daisy is concerned, she's possessed by the spirits of Lily and Gloria(think of Rocket with Ed and Molly).

Lily's older cousin, James, who was also an employee at the restaurant, heard about the news and he was pissed and also vows revenge.

That's pretty much what I have so far.

(Boy, that was a long one.)

So for your Mourning Swap Au,(thank u for doing it)

how would Irwin react to Phoebe passing away(considering how close they are in the OG AU) How would he help Mella & Evan?

(A question I'm still unsure how to answer because it isn't my place to say how Irwin reacts to this side of an AU, so I will only answer for Mella and Evan.)

Mella and Evan have been going through the grief of their friends' passing, it took such a mental toll on them that they could only be described as 'deranged' and 'aggravated'.

Although, their form of grief is greater than from the Original AU.

In this story, the two couldn't get help from anyone from beyond the KND because they shunned everyone else away from their treehouse.

Unlike Tyler, Mella was never accepting of reports or messages left by Moonbase.

Even if she were the one who received them, she never gave any positive response and instead would rather halt from sending materials up there just out of spite or she forgot.

Evan had not much interaction outside the KND so it wouldn't be a surprise when he'd chase anyone away if he doesn't know them well,

If his other 'friends' would come by to pay their respects to his friends' graves then only two options are open;

One, He'd allow them for at least a few minutes under his intense supervision like he'd hang from a tree branch just to watch over them like a hawk, weapon in his guarded hand.

Two, he'd get somewhat angry and would interrogate them until his defensive brain sparks up and becomes evident that he's not taking visitors.

Any other kind of help like from Adults or Teens are still untouched territory, I'll think more about it if this AU is given any interest.

For now, I hope this is enough to be said about the Swap AU.

It felt like no time had passed since John had last seen Gale.

After that summer, that faithful summer, John had seen Gale once. When he had seen him in Milwaukee with his beautiful wife on his arm, John thought that that was the end of Gale Cleven.

But now here he was, looking and acting like no time had passed since he had ripped John's heart from his chest.

John had insisted that he take him on the water, Lake Michigan looked so pretty this time of year, and while Gale was hesitant he still acquiesced. He had his arms crossed, looking with a slightly sour expression across the serene lake waters. John could tell he was biting something back, he just didn't know what.

It was then that it started to pour, great bucket fulls of water being dumped onto them and the boat. Even when Gale helped John bring the boat in, he looked like he was chewing on some words.

He's tying up the boat with Gale halfway down the dock when he finally turns around towards John.

"You know you could have at least written me. Let me know you were okay after all of these years. I didn't want this to happen," Gale says, shoulders tensing with anger.

John pauses in tying the boat, looks up at Gale with a bewildered expression. What could he mean?

"It wasn't over for me. I still loved you, John," Gale says and he's saying it like he's confessing to a murder.

John stands on the other side of the dock, watching Gale pant from moving the boat, watching the rain soak him through.

"I waited for you, for seven years, and now it's too late, John. I've got Marge, a lovely house. All because you didn't write me,"

John inches closer until he's a foot from Gale. He can see the way his eyelashes clump together, how blue his eyes looked in the rain, and by God John felt like a teenager again.

"Write to you? I did write to you, Gale. Every goddamn day for a whole goddamn year." John whispers, barely audible over the sound of the rain.

Gale pauses, mouth opening and shutting instantly, trying to come up with something to say.

"You... you wrote to me?" Gale balks.

John nods, lips pressed in a thin line. He can see the effects of the war of Gale's face, he's lost some of his youth, but he's still the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.

"It wasn't over, it still isn't over," John pleads and runs to close the distance between them, hoisting Gale by his thighs into his arms.

He doesn't care about the weather or if anyone sees, all he cares about is that Gale is here with him. He has a hand pressed on John's face and curled into his hair, holding him in place so he can slip his tongue into his mouth, breathing heavily against him.

John kisses Gale until their faces are slick with rain and spit, groans and breathy sounds getting louder as they hold each other. It feels euphoric, being pressed so close to Gale after all of these years, after everything that he had been through without him. If he had known Gale would be waiting for him on the other side, he would have killed every kraut in his path to be back with him.

But Gales here now, and that makes everything seem like it was worth something. AndJohn would do it all again if it meant to have Gales lips back on his.

Akane, beyond the grave: *steals her ex-friend's ultimate talent*

Jokes aside, the wheel chose Sora to be the Ultimate Merchant, so that's fun! Designing her outfit was interesting since I know Akane would take her role as a merchant seriously, but since Sora is (supposedly) an amnesiac, she would not have the memories that would influence her personality and decision-making, let alone her tastes in fashion. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that I approached this design not by thinking on what Akane would wear, but rather what Sora would cobble together upon waking up the first time and what peaked her interest as an Ultimate Merchant.

In Sora's OG design, she was just wearing a regular school uniform, and in Teruya's designs, they were either a school uniform he personally designed himself, so he was doing self-promotion by physically wearing his own product, or just a regular suit underneath a very iconic coat with a hat, scarf and goggles which were all mementos of people he held dear. Both are good designs in their own right, although Sora's was definitely the simplest and perhaps uninteresting between the two of them. And considering that a part of being a merchant is making an impression on your customers and fellow businesspeople, Ultimate Merchant Sora can't look too simple to the point that she just blends in with a crowd. So I decided to go with an outfit that's similar in it's simplicity like her uniform but leaning a bit more towards a business-like vibe. So now she has a button-up, a shorter skirt, replaced her ascot with a tie, gave her a jacket to help her stick out more, and made her socks shorter along with some transparent tights underneath. While Akane is pretty professional in her design (when not in Despair), Sora comes off as someone who's much more casual in personality, hence why her button-up has it's collar popped open a bit and is untucked, her tie is a bit loose, and her original mary janes were replaced with sneakers. I also gave her skirt and jacket her matching criss-cross plaid pattern as not only was it an iconic part of her OG design, but I think Sora would choose this pattern to stand out thanks to her instinct as the Ultimate Merchant. Her hair went through some minor changes as I wanted to reference my Akane redesign's bang hairstyle a bit by giving Sora a similar style, just with a straighter style as Akane's hair is a bit more...floofier, to say the least. I also moved Sora's ponytail over her shoulder cause I wanted it to be more visible and as I mentioned in my Kiyoka redesign, making a low ponytail visible in a front-facing sprite like this one can get lost behind the body. I think it looks kinda nice like this. I stuck to her black, white, and red color palette and thus, we are done with Sora.

Next up is Kokoro!

Considering Sora is supposed to be Akane (but not really) in original canon, Sora's "backstory" might as well be her past up to the DRA events, but one that she had completely forgotten due to her amnesia. Since I mentioned not going with the Neo World Program setting for the killing game back in my Swap Talent Yoruko post, I'm gonna approach this as if Sora really was Akane and not just an algorithm put together to protect Yuki and attached to Akane's brain (or however this game described it on how Sora can be familiar with the DRA events but not know them).

Honestly, the most that would change from this is that Akane was supposed to die at the end of the DRA events but when her body inherited Divine Luck, she ended up surviving instead. But due to her injuries and being underwater for so long, even the Divine Luck couldn't keep her memories intact, so when she woke up in a hospital, she literally didn't know who she was and could only think of "Sora" as a name. So, unable to remember who she really is and the horrible things she's done, Sora kinda just...goes off to do her own thing as she searches for answers on who she is. In the process, she realizes that she has a distinct talent in business, and she uses them to buy and sell products to try and help others during the Tragedy. Which she's able to do very well...with a bit of luck. (I always considered that Divine Luck isn't the most active when the user isn't consciously aware that they have it. It's how DRA!Yuki had Divine Luck the whole time but people still died/bad things still happened because he just wasn't aware that he has a literal deus ex machina that is Divine Luck, and the only times it became active in his subconscious was when he was involved in a game reliant on luck or willed for a scenario so badly that it just happened, like with what happened with Kinjo in Chapter 5. Same with Sora in canon and it's basically the same here.) So Sora starts making headway with her reputation, with some people even calling her the "Ultimate Merchant" although she laughs it off since she doesn't have any papers to prove she was ever an Ultimate (she was). Mikado finds out about this, curiously looks into it since "Hey, wasn't there an Ultimate Merchant in the Proto-Killing Game?", and, after a lot of digging, he figures out that Sora is most likely Akane who managed to survive her fate from DRA, most likely due to her own luck. But of course, he never figured out that she has THE Divine Luck, he just assumed that either her Fortune pulled through for her or Utsuro blessed her a second time to save her life before dying. Either way, he needed an extra player since his class only had fourteen students, and who would be better than the accomplice to the mastermind herself? And oooh, how convenient, she also has amnesia so she can't blab about how strangely similar these events are in her previous killing game (although to say everything goes according to Mikado's plan would be a lie). So he snatches her up and does some convenient memory science alterations with the help of Void, more on that in future posts, to make her believe that this is her first time waking up and is a part of their class in this strange killing game when really, none of them had met her until now.

And to make matters worse, it's through this killing game that Sora finally starts to find out who she is and what her past was. And OH boy, would that hit her like a fucking truck to find out that she was a Despair and even got most of her real classmates and friends killed for the sake of her Master Utsuro. Since she has no memories of when she was Akane Taira, the dissonance between her past self and her current self is VERY strong and she's riddled with a huge sense of guilt and shame. Even to the very end, she never fully remembers her past, but she does take responsibility for her past actions even if she'll never forgive herself as Akane Taira.
