i think what all my veilguard crits and critiques boil down to is that the game simply fails to make me care about anyone. i care because the characters are there, but i don’t care about them after interacting with them and seeing them unfolding. i want to care about characters’ relationships with each other!

was lucanis and illario’s relationship always tense with jealousy once caterina took them in and lucanis’s somewhat superior talent emerged? what was neve’s relationship with aelia? ex-wives whose ultimate goals (bettering docktown) align but whose methods ended up diverging is delicious. why did bellara and irelin get together? and what caused them to break up? why did cyrian never join the veil jumpers?

when, where, how, and why did antoine and evka get married? how long have they been married? teia and viago’s situationship is due to his daddy issues but you won’t know that unless you’ve read their short story in tevinter nights! and why, exactly, have they not been able to overcome that as of the events of the game? did they get together recently or has it been years since then?

so much of why i care about the characters in veilguard is bc i read tevinter nights and already knew them. but i know, as a writer, that no one (especially not those with lots of professional experience in the field) wants to put a story out there with such obvious cuts. i don’t need a reason to care but it’s not good storytelling without those reasons.

My body is naturally waking up at 6 and i can’t sleep past that, my immune system is getting worse & i am headed for a shutdown at any given moment. I’m going to crash. Idk what i’m doing wrong and even when i try to let myself rest and get enough good sensory input it still is too much and idk how i’m gonna keep working like this. Burnout is not a place i wanna be in & i’m starting to feel like i did during that time and it was one of the most traumatic experiences for me. I was constantly in burnout, in sensory overload 24/7 with multiple shutdowns & being unable to move, couldn’t go anywhere, couldn’t speak, it got so bad one day i could barely pick my spoon up to eat, i could hardly do anything for myself. I think i need to talk to my mom & my boss cause i can’t keep going on like this. There’s no way i am working tomorrow or tuesday. It just sucks cause i need to make money and i love my job but i always end up getting burned out when i work, even for the shortest amount of time. I literally spent the day trying to rest but i overdid it since i am unable to feel how really tired i am. Too much is constantly going on and i can’t deal with it. Needing a whole week of downtime is not realistic but is so vital for me to stay regulated cause this is not working for me.

Genuine question: does your library have an insanely long checkout period? Or are you a fast reader?? Or both?

Both! I get a lot of my books reserved through the library network itself instead of through our physical library on campus, and the books I get through the lending system (which come from other universities, sometimes way out of state) typically have much longer checkout periods. I think the average period is about two months, but it depends on the book and university I'm getting it from, as well as the type of request I'm placing.

But I can also get through a book in about a week if I want to! I took a pretty intense seminar last year where I was eating up about 200-ish pages of history and hard theory a week and I've been changed ever since. I also don't read all the books cover to cover-- I've got a few that I'm picking through for notes and that's it.
