Eldritch Tech Support: The Algorithm of Chaos is worth reading

This is a novella that is made up of the prompts that I wrote over the last year or so. The main novella is 16 chapters of Aeth (they/them, gender non conforming, tech support, magic user, priest with no god) dealing with the trials and tribulations of helping out with the technological problems of: Spider Gods, a perfectly normal family with a normal computer and a normal house with a small god inside, their impossible belief and childhood nightmare that wishes to consume them, and a crush on their bestest friend. Lyta (she/her, also tech support, has magic based on emotions and virtue which is a surprise for you later on) who is dealing with much the same things including a big ol crush on their bestest friend Aeth.

Throughout the story those two will have to deal with the usual nonsense of their jobs as well as the mysterious new app Swwarm that seems to be everywhere and is designed solely with the algorithm in mind that thinks all engagement is good engagement even if you report a video for inciting violence. You interacted with it so you must want more of it. Where did the Swwarm come from, and what is it for, why is it doing the things that it is doing?

What Do You Get Out of this Novella?

The Algorithm of Chaos is 16 chapters long, expanded and edited from the ones that I posted before. There are two bonus stories that I have not posted anywhere else: an epilogue to the main story, and a side story about Ji the Exterminator and Lyta's ex-girlfriend. The epilogue was an excuse for me to write some Aeth and Lyta because I like them. And the story Ghostchains is about the Exterminator Ji who is terrible and I couldn't stop thinking about them and wanted to see what they were like out in the world of The Dead Lands fighting a summoned "artificial" "intelligence".

You also get the original prompts that started the whole thing, edited and made a bit more coherent. The whole thing is about 119 pages long and is available as a PDF download for you to do whatever you want with.

Akko has come to the point where she realizes she has to confront the worry in her own heart. Thus, she seeks out Chariot-sensei with a very uncomfortable question. Afterwards, she links up with the members of the Blue team, who are in charge of the Prom committee. Hannah and Barbara in particular are taking the lead from a more than willing Diana. What do Akko's former enemies have in store for their year group?

Definitely! (though I warn you, I'm fundamentally incapable of reading only one thing at a time)

For physical books, I'm currently reading The Warden by Daniel M. Ford, the novelization of My Neighbour Totoro, and trying to keep up on Dracula Daily (i am failing this)

For audiobooks, I've been relistening to The Series of Unfortunate Events (because I never actually read them all when they were originally coming out) and I juuust finished This Census-Taker by China Miéville and Ogres by Adrian Tchaikovsky this weekend. I'm about to start A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers.

Honestly, one thing I've come to enjoy, especially having reached over 20K words of my novella wip, is that my characters are extremely dear to me. I've written a lot in my life, but this is one of the first times I have ever made characters that I can truly, truly call my own. The funny thing is that, I could say I know everything about them, and that is what makes me close to them but I don't. I really don't. I learn new things about them every day, and as I'm writing out their stories and their lives, they reveal themselves to me, not the other way around.

They have really come to life, and as much as they are names on a document, they are real people to me. And they help me when I am at a block, and sit with me in the middle of the night, and they genuinely make me happy. I am happy to have created these wonderful characters, but I am very grateful they allowed me to create them, and that they are with me.

This is like, the best compliment ever oh my god T-T Thank you so much! I have gotten stuff published a few times (mostly poetry), but only under my real name which I don't share online, so that don't count rn lol.

I'm actually working on a small project right now that I'm hopeful about following through on. It's a novella in verse about two gay men in 50s America. It feels pretentious I'm ngl, but I like it and the story I'm telling, and I'm having a lot of fun writing it, and that's all that matters. I was thinking about sharing on this account when I self-pubbed it bc it's in the vein of the queer shit I write here, but I didn't know if anyone would care or be interested.

Like anyone else who writes, I've also got a hundred scrapped ideas and dozens 1-6k word drafts that will never see the light of a Google Doc again lol

Mostly I want to write queer lit and horror. No matter what I write, it's gonna be weird and ugly. The conformity and brainlessness of modern fiction genuinely pisses me off so much that I finally locked in. When I finally publish something myself, I will become the final boss of professional hating for realsies

Finally brave enough to share the latest book I've been working on since June of last year!

Camellia Torazenne, the sole heir of her family's grand university and impressive fleet, has always been expected to meet her grandfather's impossibly high demands, as well as having to listen to his many derogatory insults. Once a promising young witch, she now struggles greatly with what he wants of her; no longer able to willingly perform even the most basic spell. Frustrated and now desperate more than ever to gain even some semblance of approval from him after a disastrous expedition, she accepts the help of a strange creature that lives deep below the earth within an isolated chamber; hoping beyond all else it can finally give her what she always wanted.

Saturn's Vow is a Fantasy-Romance novella set in an already existing universe, but can be experienced as a standalone story.

A few of its main features are: 29k words spread over 11 chapters; HumanxMonster relationship; a female protagonist and genderless, it/its-using deuteragonist; some mystery/horror elements, all set in a high fantasy setting!

What This Is

This is the sidebar in Obsidian, which is the program I use for plotting and drafting my obnoxiously long stories.

It allows me to use Markdown to link between files, which helps me when I'm plotting out a novel with a time loop and have no idea what impact a decision made in Book 1 could potentially have in Book 3.

I have A Vision that I can write a final draft in Markdown and then use the Markdown to build a PDF which I then use to make an EPUB. Hypothetically, I'll then be able to sort out what the dimensions of Book 1 are going to be so I can get rolling on Draft2Digital, which I've decided to use because I don't want to go with Amazon. I'm sure there's an easier way to do what I'm trying to do but I can't follow instructions when I'm burnt out so I'm figuring it out myself.

Why I'm Making a Whole Post About It

All three books have either a DRAFT or a PLOT MAP folder in Obsidian.

When I start working on the interactive fiction novel, I will be using Obsidian to map out each scene because I can link files together to create a map. It was screwing around with the IF novel structure that kicked me in the ass to write a summary for Book 3--I can't make an IF based on a trilogy if the trilogy doesn't have an ending. But since I didn't write Book 1 with it being a trilogy in mind, it doesn't have a plot map. Yet. It's my guinea pig for testing my "Can I use Markdown to self-publish" hypothesis.

Anyway

Under DRAFTS -> BOOK 3 ZERO DRAFT, there's a file I've helpfully titled "vague outline," along with the current month and the word count of the file.

When I opened the file last night I was like "Teehee I'll just make some bullet points and then go back to writing fanfiction that will embarrass 50-year-old me."

THAT IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED.

I wrote a whole-ass plot summary. The entire third book. It has a beginning middle and end. I figured out how to handle the time loop reset. I am able to break it into five-act structure like I have the last two books + the post-canon novella I'm plugging away at.

When I tell you I want to drop what I'm doing to go write it. I need to know what happens next. It's been 16 months I have no fucking clue how Sullivan stops Powell.

So yeah. That's what I've been doing during my hiatus.
