Hiiii! For the fic asks, 1, 11, 12, and 30! :3
1) I’ll give you two from The Ticket to Tomorrow. Last sentence for the most recent chapter posted: (Chapter 18) If Vash wasn’t mistaken, it sounded like the hero merely said, “I'm Superman.”
And last sentence from the draft of the chapter I’m up to now: (Chapter 28) “Anyway, what’d we miss?” Lois asked, specifically looking toward Luida and not Jimmy.
11) I’m hoping one day if I get the DCMK (Detective Conan/Magic Kaito) bug biting again, I’ll finish The Mystery of the Meitantei. https://m.fanfiction.net/s/9460809/1/Mystery-of-the-Meitantei
It follows Shinichi after the downfall of the Black Organization and his rebuilding relationships with family and friends, especially the Detective Boys. Will he tell the DBs his secret or will the kids uncover the mystery all on their own?
I posted 5 chapters, totally just under 50k words. I of course left it on a cliffhanger and I still get a couple reviews and followers every year, so I have some motivation to finish it.
12) This one, I think you’ll like Squid. ;)
It’s obviously an oversimplification but the “small but strong woman” trope.
I love both Meryl Stryfe and Lois Lane. While Meryl only has the 3 adaptations, Lois’s evolution since 1938 has paved the path for complex female characters.
Lois has always had a ton of flaws, but damn if she isn’t powerful in her own right in a universes full of superhero’s. In MAWS we see her struggle with insecurities but is oozing with ambition and an insatiable desire to uncover any and all injustices throughout the city. She is determined to become a star reporter and has already had growth in such a short timeframe. She’s only going up from here. Plus, we’ll be seeing her (and Clark and Jimmy AND maybe Kara) in exactly a week!!!
There’s no doubt in my mind that the newest versions of Meryl and Lois were inspired by each other. Nightow is a huge western comics fan and it’s no coincidence Meryl is now a newspaper reporter. But of course, Meryl is still her own person. In TriStamp, she is still very young and naive but she similar plows in stating her passion is in humanitarianism and isn’t afraid to head out into the frontier, chasing outlaws. She’s not dumb though, she is quick to learn and knows there’s a bigger picture to the story than just a puff piece. There is a contrast between TriMax and TriStamp Meryl, but we are still only seeing her potential. By the second half of the season, she stands her ground, refusing to back down and run away. Just the small clip after ep 12 title card, we get a sneak peak of the iconic Derringer Meryl. I can’t wait to see her again in S2.
30) TBH, I only have the two fics!! 😅😅😅 So I’ll have to plug The Ticket to Tomorrow. It’s my Trigun Stampede x My Adventures with Superman crossover. It’s a longfic/epic with Multi-POV. Think of it almost as an epic fantasy or sci-fic. There’s action, adventure, humor, angst, fluff and more.
The idea for a crossover was rolling around in my head for a few months before I finally typed out my outline. I’ve started getting back into fandom and writing groups to keep me motivated. Definitely recommend both series!

HOLY SHIT, WHY IS THERE A DETCO REFERENCE IN MY URUSEI YATSURA??
Anyway, this reference is really funny and cute (and I think some episodes ago there was another reference but I'm not entirely sure for that one) since Detco also has a bunch of references to UY as well (this how I discovered Detco in the first place btw), so it's kind of like the UY remake is returning the favor :)
This is only one of them, there's a whole section in the UY wiki which lists most of them (which you can find here).
#great episode!!#all of them were great but thats cuz i have soft spot for all these chapters and i think the remake handled them well!#anyway the funniest thing is that the past week i was thinking 'the new episode will be a mystery sort of one so what if they casually#put a detco reference' and i laughed it off#so this was a surprise lmao#i wasnt sure it was an actual ref at first since mendos wording is a bit different but they both mean the same or the subbers were just#having fun so i guess it still counts but furinkan pointed out that this was indeed a reference so thats cool#urusei yatsura#うる星やつら#urusei yatsura 2022#uy posting#shutaro mendo#ryunosuke fujinami#onsen mark#dcmk#detective conan#meitantei conan#detco#conan edogawa#haibara ai#lum#god i love them sm

Sanma no Meitantei
Sanma no Meitantei (or “Great Detective Sanma”) is an interesting footnote in the history of early Japanese adventure games. It’s a crossroads of sorts between the release of detective-based murder mysteries inspired by Yuji Horii’s Portopia Renzoku Satsujin Jiken, and – of all things – the Japanese stand-up comedy scene of the mid-80s. This is clear from the get-go, since it stars renowned comedian Sanma Akashiya as the titular great detective, along with a host of famous double acts and comedians of the day who populate the game world.

Detective Conan chapter 57 : Inspector Megure trusting the kids because of the italian case (continuity!) and being disappointed in them is a nice touch.
Convenient point of the day : the police seems to be all powerful in Japan and allowed to do a complete research inside any house based whatever some kids told them.
So... This is an easy case, right ? We didn't see the two brothers in the same room, except when one was "asleep", and the body disappeared, so I guess the "sleepy" one is dead and the other played both roles.
Questions left : what was happening with the phone scene ? And how will the kids show the truth ?

And that's a wrap! There was great showings here for Sherlock, Shawn Spencer, Conan and Benoit Blanc! Shawn made this a really close race for a long while there against Sherlock, but the classic detective with countless iterations over the years pulls through. Thanks all who voted, commented and shared! :)
Until next time, detective fans!
When the favorite Sherlock adaptation poll was ongoing this past week, I had a bunch of ideas for other detective related polls I wanted to throw out there and see people's takes on. Now with the Sherlock one wrapped up, here's a new one I'm really curious about!
I'm sure there will be a myriad of other detectives I haven't included on this list, either because I forgot, have never read/watched/played their media, or haven't even heard of it. There's no way I could hope to capture them all, especially without hitting the poll entry limit. If you have one you really love, you can still show love for them in the Other category! And tell us about them in your comments/reblogs. 😄
For the purposes of this poll, I'm keeping this list to characters who work as some sort of private/consulting/civilian detective or investigator, not for the police (Columbo, B99, etc.) or in some other field like medicine (such as House or Maomao.)
Shoutout to Nancy Drew, Sam Spade, Spenser, Phillip Marlowe, the Hardy Boys, Auguste Dupin, Nero Wolfe, the Dead Boy Detectives (still need to watch this), Bodkin, the Only Murders podcaster trio, Detective L, Charlotte Holmes and countless others that I couldn't fit here. Give them some love in the Other category!
As before with the Sherlock poll, feel free to reblog for a larger sample size. :)

Shikanoin Heizou's character main inspiration (and why it is not Detective Conan).
Before anything, I will like to preface this by saying that I have not seen (or read, for that matter) any Heizou's character inspiration analysis that covered the work I'm about to cover. I could be completely off mark and there could be one, but I'm afraid I have simply not seen it. If there is and someone could be so kind to @/ or link it, I will update this post to add that analysis.
Another thing I will like to say is that I do not deny the obvious inspirations and takes on the popular manga and anime series like Detective Conan (Meitantei Konan) and Bungou Stray Dogs, but to my understanding, those works do take inspirations from other previous works, such as the Sherlock Holmes' saga, the mystery works of Edogawa Ranpo and other very popular detective novels referenced in Heizou's constellation names (you can find a link to that here!), so rather than to say Hoyoverse's inpirations were newer detective media, I would say all those share a common inspiration of older works of the same genre.
The rest of the analysis under the cut, to not clog anyone's dashes. This should be spoiler free for the most part, but there may be allusions to some of Heizou's hangout event endings.
Said all that, allow me to recount the events that led me here, as I feel it is appropiate.
It felt like a miracle came to me one day I was browsing the novel aisle of my favorite manga shop. I was waiting for my friend to decide which Puella Madoka Magica to buy to inflict psychological pain on her psyche when I saw a weird title: Police Detective. So naturally, being the big snooper I am, I took it to snoop around and saw the full title: Police Detective Heizou.
Flabbergasted.
I had been looking into his character for a while and hadn't been able to find anything. Althought, to be completely honest, not very inquisitively, as I got frustrated and thought that another person would be so kind as to do the work I didn't want to do (spoiler: it didn't happen). So really, to say I was shocked wasn't an exageration.
I had always thought that Heizou was a…pretty weird name to name someone based on Japanese culture, even more having more common names in animanga like Ayato, Ayaka, Shinobu, Kokomi… You get me. So I had always the suspicion our dear Heizou was based on something, I just couldn't find what.
And lo and behold there was! I did a small mistake, I didn't get a photo nor did I write down the name of the author, so I didn't have a lead comming home and cried about it. And then I decided it was time to woman up and to search well and wide. And I found a very elusive wikipedia page called Onihei Hankachou.
Onihei Hankachou (鬼平犯科帳), as you can read on wikipedia, was a series of historical novels written by Shoutarou Ikenami from 1967 to 1989, based on a real-life special police officer called Heizou Hasegawa (the wikipedia article is in japanese, my apologies in advance).
I will not be detailing everything in the wikipedia article, as I think It is well explained, but because every analysis needs both evidence and explanation, I will comment on the more important and notable things.
I'm going in the same order as the wikipedia. To not confuse anyone, 'Heizou' will be the genshin character, meanwhile, the novel and historical figure will be named by his surname 'Hasegawa'.
While we don't know fully the home life of Heizou, we know that, like Hasegawa, he was looked down. Not because of illegitimacy, but rather because he didn't want to inherit his father's dojo and wanted to become a detective. Because of that, Heizou ran away from home.
This can be corroborated in Heizou's Vision Character Stories and in the Shikanoin Heizou's Inazuma Commercial Street Bulletin Board message.
In the Vision one it says: But just like every other rebellious child in the world, he only wished to escape having to take up his father's work, even as he was forced to learn martial arts alongside him.
Meanwhile in the Bulletin Board, his older brother discredits him saying 'he names himself a detective'. While it's true that there's no detective position in the Tenryou Commission, the wording feels really condescending.
Then, it says that he led a fast life. This has little to explain, but in a lot of his Character Stories, he is always running off and nobody knows where the hell he'll be next lol.
On the remaining highlighted text, in his hangout route Heizou Talks Fraud we can see how Heizou does reinsert previous minor offenders to act as his eyes and ears in the streets, and in Kuki Shinobu's voiceline titled Shikanoin Heizou, Heizou regularly buys information off of the Arataki gang in exchange of good words whenever Shinobu bails them out.
While Heizou reinserts minor offenders, we can see that his attitude towards what I call assertive criminals (ie.: criminals that knew they were commiting a crime and didn't care nor showed remorse) is pretty strict and even irritated in some cases. After all, he hates the abstract concept of 'Crime' and everything it means, but he is also very cunning and knows how to make use of those assertive criminals.
Meanwhile, like the literary Hasegawa, he is pretty forgiving and merciful towards accidental criminals. In the route of Long-Sealed Mystery, he didn't want to involve Ryuuji with the murder more than he was involved and didn't include it in the final case paperwork; and when the whole debacle with smuggled goods happened in The Missing Thing, Heizou decided to stick around instead of making things difficult for Sangonomiya, but still with a warning to Gorou to not lie to him again.
All in all, I think it is pretty obvious how the novels and the character 'Heizou' relate to one another. Obviously, a lot of details were changed, but the connection is undeniable.
As final message, I have to say that I did not have the pleasure nor the time to read the novels, but I encourage everyone who wishes to know more about the source material to give it a read if they can! This analysis is not really a deep dive into the parallels of the work and the game, mainly a word-vomit on a topic I had been very interested for some time but had not the chance to really look up.
I close this big post with well wishes <3 anyone who wants to share or debate or anything (as long as it is politely!) is very welcome to do so!

Randomly being amused at how Gosho treated his main characters from Meitantei Conan and Magic Kaito to be almost completely opposite each other yet still exist within the same universe. And also using the twins/cousins relationship to explain the same face syndrome.
I mean....
Kudou Shinichi was introduced to us as a very good highschool detective, whose interest in solving mysteries were more or less influenced by his novelist dad who sometimes solves cases too. As much as being a much better detective than his son, Yusaku didn't actively involved themselves in cases... yet due to what happened to Shinichi... Yusaku occasionally helps out.
And then you have Kuroba Kaito who had a bit of a talent in doing illusions, due to his late dad being a stage magician and later revealed to be the original Kaito 1412, a phantom thief, Kaito end up also following on Toichi's footsteps by being the 2nd gen phantom thief Kaito KID to find out the truth of his dad's death.
And then you get Ran and Aoko who both became love interests of Kaito and Shinichi, who ALSO looked almost identical to each other like their respective boyfriends, as well as having parents with similar traits (dad has a short moustache, mum wears glasses.
If that wasn't funny enough, Ran"s dad Mouri Kogorou is a no-good detective who used to be a former police officer while Inspector Nakamori (Aoko's dad) is an active police officer. And with the Magic Kaito resuming after so long on hiatus, we also found out that Aoko's mum is a prosecutor... which funny enough was a direct opposite of Eri's (Ran's mum) job which is a lawyer.
This is so funny... 😂😂😂

Theme 2: Framed
News of the Midnight Moonlight, a sapphire jewel owned by the infamous Suzuki Jirokichi, was stolen. Rumors had it that it was stolen by Kaitou KID. Almost everyone in Beika knows about the news, except Kaito himself. Yet the said phantom thief had long retired and is currently in the Kudo Manor sitting beside his detective while trying to show him a trick.
"Shin-chan~ guess which hand has the coconut water!" He grinned and held up two hands. The said detective gave him a look before burying his head back to the case he had been focusing on. "Left."
"Ah, still can't trick your eyes, can it?" Kaito shook his head and placed the plastic bottle of coconut water next to Shinichi on his desk. "I didn't get you coffee this time, since it's been 3 days before you get a wink of sleep. You need sleep in order to be able to function well, you know?"
"Yeah, yeah." Shinichi responded while keeping his eyes on the papers.
Kaito shook his head at Shinichi before sitting down on the couch on the other side of the room. It was quite boring for him, so he decided to pick up the newspaper that was sitting next to him in hopes to find something interesting to read. That was when he saw that the Midnight Moonlight Suzuki was stolen. The shocking news almost made him fall off of the couch.
"Kaito." Shinichi said annoyed as he rubbed his temple. "Haven't I told you to be quiet when I'm trying to work?"
"But Shin-chan!" Kaito whined as he pointed at the headlines. "Haven't you seen what the reporters wrote? The Midnight Moonlight is stolen and they're framing me to be the thief."
Apparently Kaito was not the only one who didn't know about the news. "What?" Shinichi said in disbelief as he came over to take a good look at the newspaper, just to make sure that it was not Kaito's shenanigan that was just trying to take his attention off of work. When he made sure that he didn't misread things, he frowned. "This is ridiculous. Kaitou KID hasn't been spotted for years. Besides, you've already found the Pandora and destroyed it, so there's no reason for you to continue to use the alias Kaitou KID. Who would do such a thing?"
Kaito tapped his chin as he thought. "I do remember there is someone....."
Shinichi was silent as his blue orbs focused on Kaito.
"There was a mysterious person that I ran into when I was one of my heists." Kaito explained as he stared back at Shinichi. "He was wearing black and the color theme was very similar to my Kaitou KID getup."
Shinichi nodded. "And then what happened?"
Kaito shrugged. "I was ambushed so I didn't have time to question the guy. But it's strange, since then, I never saw him again."
Shinichi pinched his chin as he thought. Kaito took this moment to admire the side face of his detective. After a while, Shinichi spoke.
"Do you have time tonight? We're going to pay Suzuki Jirokichi a visit. Oh, and don't forget to dress as Kaitou KID. I think I have an idea that can lure the real thief out."
⋘══════∗ {•『 🎩⚽ 』•} ∗══════ ⋙
"Ugh, Shin-chan should've told me to wear a jacket." Kaito, now Kaitou KID, complained as he gave another loud sneeze. He was waiting for the signal of Shinichi before making an appearance. For the best effect, Shinichi had told him to wait outside.
"It's to convince the thief that Kaitou KID will not be disguising among the police force." was his words. But Kaito couldn't help but wonder if Shinichi was trying to freeze him on purpose. "Baka Meitantei, doesn't he know that it's bad for a magician to have cold hands?"
Just as he continued to mumble to himself, the lights to the building inside was turned off. Kaito knew that was the signal that they had talked about earlier, so he sneakily opened the window and agily avoided the infrared lights that was set up in the room. Once the lights came on again, Kaito was already perched up high looking at the people below. He swiftly scanned around and saw Shinichi in the back signaling him. He nodded and spoke.
"I'm sure none of you have expected the heist note of the Moonlight Magician himself, have you? " Kaito, no, Kaitou KID smirked as he glanced at the police forces that Jirokichi gathered in the room. "However, that's not why I've made an appearance this time."
"What are you doing!? Get him!" Jirokichi yelled loudly at one of the police as his dog barked at KID. Sonoko fangirled as usual. Kaito had noticed that Shinichi's expression was enough to kill someone when Sonoko screamed. He couldn't help but chuckle at Shinichi's display of jealousy. But he didn't have long to admire his detective. After all, they have business to attend to.
"Before you gentleman attempt to arrest me, allow me to ask you this. When have I stolen and not return what I took?" He asked as he dodged when a police lodged at him. The room was silent at his words. Yeah, even though Kaitou KID enjoyed toying around with them, this was not something he would do. Just as the police looked at each other in confusion, the room was once again dark.
This time, Kaito was confused. This was not part of the plan. What was Shinichi trying to do?
He silently made his way to Shinichi as he quickly changed into a different outfit. "What's going on?"
"I-I don't know. I know I expected the thief to show his face, but I didn't think he would be showing up this quickly..... "
Kaito can tell that even Shinichi was caught off guard. He placed a hand on Shinichi's shoulder as a way to calm him down. But that's when a flash of black rushed past by him.
"Wait-! I think I saw something!" He shout-whispered. But that's when the lighting came back. On the floor where Kaitou KID was, the Midnight Moonlight lay peacefully with a note attached on it.
Jirokichi immediately ordered someone to get the jewel for him to check if it's the real Midnight Moonlight. While their attentions were on the jewel, Kaito took the note that was on the floor and read it. There was random letters on it. Since it's too loud and noisy in their surroundings, he decided to take it back with him to the Kudo Manor to study it privately. Maybe it's some kind of code that he had to figure out how to crack.
Unfortunately, the next day, Kaito caught a cold from standing outside for too long so for the week, he couldn't bother Shinichi and the detective finally had an entire week of peace and quiet to himself.
(The code is in the comment if anyone is interested to solve it :3)

Worth it
In the heart of Tokyo, Edogawa Conan, the brilliant young detective trapped in a child's body, had been on a quest for the antidote that can turn him back to his true form as Shinichi Kudo. His pursuit was a secret, knowing that the Black Organization was relentlessly searching for him.
Using his sharp detective skills and what he knew about the said organization, he cleverly followed clues and secretly found one of their secret bases. He put together bits of info from past run-ins with the Organization, cracked tricky codes, and spied on their moves. All leading him to the location where they conducted their secretive operations.
Conan succeeded in infiltrating the base due to his small body, enabling him to evade security and outwit the guards. Understanding the criminals' methods aided his stealthy movements, allowing him to navigate undetected and stay hidden by relying on his cunning.
Even though it was super risky, Conan was dead set on stopping the Black Organization's wrongdoings. His whole mission to find the antidote led him right to this big moment.
~~
After tireless efforts and countless near-misses, Conan finally stumbled upon the antidote. Without hesitation, he consumed it, feeling an immediate rush as his body morphed, immediately returning him to his original body — Shinichi Kudo.
Overwhelming with a mix of emotions and caught off guard by the abrupt transformation, Shinichi found himself inside one of the organization's more hidden bases, the ceiling mirroring the vast expanse of the sky above. His surprise escalated when he came face-to-face with Kaito Kid, the mysterious phantom thief, who had a particular gem, that glowed red under the moonlight, in his possession. Tension filled the air as they locked eyes, an unexpected encounter unfolding in the middle of the quiet atmosphere of the base.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Shinichi exclaimed, taken aback by the unexpected encounter.
'Oh, he's back in his original form.' Kaito thought as he maintained his composure. "What about you, meitantei?~" He countered with a mischievous glint in his eyes. Their gazes locked for a short while.
However, before they could delve further into their standoff, shouts from outside the room drew their attention.
"Follow me if you don't want to die," Shinichi urged, his detective instincts kicking in.
"Oh? As if I'll die," Kaito smirked, but proceeded to follow him anyway.
After some time passed, they found themselves confronting their chasers in a heated fight. In the middle of all the commotion, Kaito said something unexpected to Shinichi.
"You know, meitantei, I really like you," Kaito confessed.
"This is not the time for jokes, KID," Shinichi retorted, focusing on attacking the enemies.
"Who says I'm joking?" Kaito slyly replied as he swiftly tossed an unknown substance towards their enemies.
For a brief moment, silence enveloped them until Shinichi broke it with a stern warning, "Loving me is going to get you killed."
"You're worth it," Kaito replied calmly, his eyes reflecting both determination and genuine admiration for the young detective.
Hearing this, Shinichi sighed, "Do whatever you want, thief. But first, I could use your help in dealing with them."
"Gladly, Shinichi-kun~" Kaito replied with a smirk, his tone filled with playful enthusiasm.
Despite the dire circumstances, they found solace in each other's presence. Their connection went beyond the lines of detective and thief, forging a unique bond that neither had anticipated. As the battle raged on, Shinichi and Kaito fought side by side, their teamwork proving formidable against their common foes.
