randomly decided to give this another listen straight through and it’s so good wtf… i’ve definitely been hearing these songs around all summer, so maybe i got used to them, but i’d guess i wasn’t able to enjoy it at first due to one or both of 1. i really was expecting a very different album after houdini and training season, and that album would’ve been very very to my taste. so i was disappointed that it wasn’t what i wanted. and 2, potentially a partial cause for point #1…. this came out during the brat rollout. i wanted to hear those club classics. houdini and training season, and also illusion to an extent but those other two are my favorites, were instant club classics (i do not go to clubs im just speaking about song vibes) (actually one of the only times i’ve been to a club i was out on the dance floor and they were projecting the music videos of the songs they were playing on the wall for some reason (it was a gay club. gay men love music videos, so i’ve heard) and they played training season and it had only been out like a month and that was the first time i saw the music video, kinda drunk on the dance floor in the crowd, and i was like. mesmerized. she’s so good at this, dude) (but anyway that means training season IS a club classic. to me) ANYWAY yes that spring i was in the mood for bangers, and i was expecting bangers, and then bangers were not what i got. but. this is really good anyway. actually the transition between end of an era and houdini was kind of jarring because of how genuinely different they are lol. but what i’ve been listening to is still great. the bass line on whatcha doing is so fun. end of an era is soooo fun, i don’t know why i never got into everything she’s doing there before. i did think it was one of my favorites on the album, i think, but i just didn’t really like any of it. i’ve paused the music to type this up, actually, so i don’t get too distracted, so i’m gonna have to get back into it. but. 3 good songs. probably more. one final thought is it’s possibly how sedentary and relaxed i’ve been lately, that i like chill cute vibes now. funnily enough, this is obviously a very summer-themed album, but i feel like the vibes are good for the winter. cozy at home in a blanket with my cute cozy album, with a girl swimming in the ocean on the cover

well, i did it! i finished the main story for granblue fantasy: relink :) junk thoughts below (with spoilers)!

first, the things i liked!

the gameplay. i love love love how dynamic and fast-paced it is! i'm boring and my main character throughout the entire playthrough was djeeta: i tried playing as katalina but idk lol i think i was just too used to djeeta to fully switch to her. plus i think her CPU does a much better job of playing as her. when i played as io during one of her sidequests was also pretty fun but i just had to stick with djeeta! leveling up her Artes and then going ham on enemies with them all leveled up never got old. also doing link attacks and skybound arts is soooo satisfying, especially when it would deal the final blow to a boss! i have to admit at first it took me a while to get the hang of it, especially dodging/blocking enemy attacks and i kept going into critical condition or whatever, but once i got better at it, doing quests and fighting bosses was something i would really look forward to.

the bosses. ok i gotta say, granblue fantasy:relink has some of the best boss fights in a video game i've ever played. i mentioned it in my previous posts but i swear almost each boss had a different interesting gimmick instead of it just being "keep attacking until it's dead". i think my favorites were excavillion, when you fight the machines using rolan, fighting as bahamut, and of course the final battle where you're trying to rescue Id. like the boss battles were just so insane and a lot of stuff would be happening at once especially when they'd go into overdrive, but running around jumping trying to evade their attacks, although intense, is part of the fun of these battles!! idk i'm just really impressed with how dynamic these boss battles were and just gotta say hats off to the team that designed them, just super fun and satisfying to play through.

main character selection. ok as someone completely new to the series and not having looked up anything about this game beforehand other than what i saw in the official trailer shown in one of the state of plays, i had no idea you could choose the gender of the main character, so this was a pleasant surprise! i mean, other than her atrocious first outfit before you get to chapter 4 or whatever it is when you get your real armor, it's cool that you can just decide what gender your character is cus i mean, it doesn't really affect the story in any way so at least i'm not stuck with the default silent male protagonist :P

the music. coming from having played the last few entries of the tales of games, it was definitely great to hear some music that actually makes me feel something and isn't just background noise. i'll have to give the full OST a proper listen without me being distracted with a fight, but yeah for sure looking forward to reliving the experience with the music! edit: ok now that i'm listening to the OST with headphones on i can honestly say this is one of the best video game soundtracks i've ever heard in a game. like, i knew it was good and i knew there were some bangers in there but my god i just wasn't paying enough attention to it because i was too focused on the battles. like yeah the folca theme and the first forest section you entered i remembered being so good but like. excavillion primal III. managarmr primal II. seedhollow castle battle. ruined city vallion battle. and i'm not even done yet. what the hell what the hell the OST alone is enough to make this into a fantastic game holy shit.

post-ending content?? ok i only did the first quest as Id but i thought it was cool that, although the main story only took me 19 hours to complete, it looks like there is a LOT left to do as part of picking up where rolan left off + new quests?? plus i still need to finish the side chapters for the characters i'm interested in, so yeah, even though i finished the main story, there's still much to do!

rolan. what a cool chill dude. i mentioned in my post that i thought it was really neat how he turned out to be one of the most powerful characters in the game (i thought he was going to betray us or something), and was so sad when he first "dissolves" when fighting angra. i thought it was Id who was going to be sacrificed at the end but, glad that Id joins the party even if that means that rolan is now...floating in between dimensions or whatever. but don't worry, we will save you, mr fix it dude!

the story. again, as someone completely new to the series, i think the game did a pretty good job at catching you up with what happened in the previous game and giving you the background story of each of the crew members that are already there. and even so, the main story that develops throughout the game was interesting enough to keep me hooked. i mean it's nothing out of this world like i'm used to with other JRPGs i've played: there wasn't really any character development other than Id and MAYBE Rolan (Zathba also?? idk), since the crew that you're traveling have already traveled together in the previous game so they all know each other and whatever development had to happen happened in the first game (from what I understand), so i mean, i guess that was also different but can't complain too much since it looks like this game was born from a mobile game.

ok just something i thought was cool was in the final battles where your former enemies (i forget their names...it's the sword lady and the huge dude) join you in the fight and THEN zathba + other people you helped along the way bring their ships and help you against angra...like...damn, that shit was cool! another instance of these boss battle keeping it interesting!!

and now....for the things i didn't particularly like + other misc. thoughts.

the character side chapters. ok i think the first two or so of each starting character are great for catching up us newcomers, but then after that....idk, i wasn't really interested in the story that they'd be trying to tell. like, i know i'm not done with all of the chapters for any of the characters, so my mind might still change, but so far, not really impressed lol. they aren't really engaging enough for me yet and can...actually be quite boring with the storytelling! but oh well, we'll see if my mind changes once i'm done with the starting characters quests!

the overworld. i can't say i really missed having an overworld that would connect all of the levels. thinking back, most of the overworlds of other JRPGs i've played are quite boring to traverse through and the only reason you go through them is for treasure or finding new armor, which here in granblue you get them through quests. so, while not having an overworld is not something i'm used to, i'd say for this game it was fine not to have it.

the town sidequests. i mean, they're your typical fetch sidequests/defeat X monsters which don't really involve any interesting engagement with the NPCs that are requesting your help, so i'm a bit disappointed that that's all these sidequests are instead of something a bit more appealing.

the characters talking during boss fights. A LOT. like, i decided to play it in japanese and man, sometimes it'd be hard to keep up with what they were saying + paying attention to what's going on in the battlefield. especially in the last battle lol rolan was going on and on about...idk SOMETHING and i'm out here trying to stop Versa from fucking destroying the world haha. i mean just a minor nitpick but yeah

ok this is getting longer than i thought it would lol but despite the few negatives there at the end, i gotta say, i'm now a fan! i DOUBT i'll play the first granblue since...it looks like it's a turn-based game and i am terrible at those, but i'm really looking forward to where the series goes from here! i'm glad i decided to pick this up and kinda regret not getting the deluxe edition lol but oh well! there's always next time! :) but heck yeah, just overall had a pretty damn good time and can't wait to do more quests!

This is very interesting actually! I personally still believe that Wooly is, like Amanda, another captured child. I don't know why, but the whole way he acts seems, to me, the way only a scared kid acts. Does it make sense for him to be a bad person? Yes, but I wonder why he wouldn't just silence Amanda completely, like she does (or did, I'm not sure which applies best) to him.

This song came out a day before my birthday. XD I was soooo hyped and it delivers! Klay is both Scandroid and Celldweller, but they projects have very different styles. So when he makes something that mixes those style, he puts both names. This song is kind of has a... punk rock? Vibe? Which is new from Klay! So I really love it. This was originally going to be a song with someone else, but things fell apart and it seems he got to repurpose it for something else!

So, big bionicle fan that is Essenger... got to collaborate with THE CYROSHELL! For Bionicle day!!! That's so coool!!!! I love both of these artists, so for both to get together and make a banger? Oh my gosh I'm not normal about it. The way Ess mixes both his style with Cyroshell? Chef kiss... AND ESSENGER SCREAMING? Like these are brand new vocals from him. Apparently he has been training with someone to get those distortions.

YOU GUYSSSSSSSSS I just watched The Sea Beast on Netflix and it is a DELIGHT

I don't even know where to start my family was like "hey soro find a good movie for us to watch" and I was like okay [only looks at animated movies]

and I saw the title of the sea beast and I was like ooh animated movie and the preview showed this GORGEOUS animation and I was like HOOOOOO and I looked it up for ratings and it had good ratings I was like FUCK YEAH

so we watched the sea beast!! and it was amazing!!!!!!

the opening sequence was already like OOOOH cuz the high contrast red of the flaming boat + the green of the waves was so fucking cool and the animation was so MMMM

I don't wanna spoil too much actually, might add a cut with spoilery stuff to this post late, but yeah animation was great

they also have a sea shanty which was a BANGER, was not expecting that but my musical theater loving sister was like WOOOOOO SURPRISE MUSICAL BABY

it's not a musical but the music is really good regardless, I also love how they had the dude play the bagpipes in that one part to start the battle out

music that takes from the setting (Ireland in this case, I'm pretty sure??) is always great, I love it when it's not generic orchestra

i'm also a sucker for sea monsters, I watched all those "top ten scariest unsolved mysteries about the ocean" videos when I was younger and would always be like OOOOOOO whenever they showed artistic representations and stuff. and as stated in the title by GOD are there some banger monsters

I do wish the main beast had a bit more flair to it because its design is rather bare bones, but I think it was based off of the lochness monster or something so maybe that's why it's not too flashy

also the humor is really good I laughed out loud a lot

and the characters!!!! again not going too in-depth but I really liked the main cast, there weren't so many that you had to struggle to remember names or anything and all of them felt important in some way

(edit: I forgot to add this but the CHARACTER DESIGN IS SO GOOD I literally said it out loud during the movie even though I usually don't notice that stuff but it was SOOOO GOOD you can tell their personalities just by looking at them it's top tier I swear)

PLUS THE SURPRISE POC?? like I didn't see any of the characters going in so I was expecting like all white mfs and maybe one token black background character but the cast was so diverse!!!! one of the main duo is a black girl!!! and I would die for sarah ngl she's SO cool

not only that but the person in the crow's nest was Asian and I was like holy shit is that a wild asian?? my homie??? my brethren??? in a movie set in IRELAND my god (I think it's Ireland but I completely forget how I came to that conclusion so don't quote me on it being ireland)

AND THEN THERE WERE SO MANY MORE

even among the crowds and super insignificant background characters there were poc and no one ever brought it up or anything and it was never justified which was so fucking cool!!!

like movie makers could have easily gone for the "it's medieval Ireland there won't be any poc" excuse and gotten away with it but NOPE

maybe I just don't watch enough media nowadays but it was just really nice to me I wasn't expecting poc at all

so yeah amazing movie 11/10 would recommend also jacob is like the poster boy for go white boy go i love him

In Wilbur’s “Songs We Listened To When Writing Pebble Brain” playlist the song “A-Punk” by Vampire Weekend is on it and I can absolutely hear it in this one. God, just the vibe of the entire album is immaculate, perfect summer with best friends vibes. Also it’s so cheeky I fucking love it.

Model Buses (#5): Love love LOVE the instrumentation of this one, especially the funky bass (Ash you wonderful lad)!! I love the mix of how you can dance like crazy to this one, but also just casually vibe to it, I totally get why it’s James’ favorite lmao

Concrete (#2): THE COUNT IN AT THE START GETS YOU SO PUMPED! AND THE DRUUUUUMS MARK YOU KING. I ADORE this song. The lyrics are so fun, and the chorus is so goddamn catchy!! I really like LoveJoy songs where the vocals are more sing-songy. Like where more riffs or longer notes are allowed and they can really show off their vocals, if that makes sense. Just GOD WHAT A BANGER.

Perfume (#1): PERFUME MY BELOVED. Right off the bat I want to thank TommyInnit for saving this song because how THE FUCK could they dare even consider dropping it. (/lh) Again, the goddamn instrumentation my love. THE DROP BEFORE THE CHORUS SWEET JESUS IT’S SO GOOD. You KNOW I’m gonna be screaming these lyrics till the end of time. Oh my god, the ending, THE FUCKING ENDING. LOVEJOY HOW COULD YOU EVER THINK OF DROPPING THIS IT’S SO GOOD I’M IN LOVE WITH IT DEAR GOD. That note he sings??!?! It’s so good, there’s nothing else to say, fucking legendary.

You’ll Understand When You’re Older (#6): This one also really holds “A-Punk” vibes for me and surprise surprise, I love it. For me it’s like the “Cause For Concern” of this album, which of course is in no way a bad thing (they’re all good songs there’s no such thing as a bad one.) It’s a lot more instrumental/story-based and I really like that. Also, the “and if you think that it gets better” line just MMMM

The Fall (#3): THE FUCKING EVERYTHING WITH THIS SONG OKAY. Right off the bat instrumentation is off the charts holy shit. I just love the creativeness of this song, y’know? Like it’s so vastly different, and the stuff with the vocals, the shouting, the way the music cuts off, cuts back in IT’S SO NEAT. Not to mention how much of a jam it is. It’s so cool and feels super experimental compared to the rest AND I ADORE IT PLEASE MORE LIKE THIS. The ending man, THE ENDING. 

It’s All Futile! It’s All Pointless (#1): Completely and utterly biased but BEST SONG OF ALL TIME THE GREATEST THING TO EVER BE MADE. It’s All Futile was always my favorite Maybe I Was Boring song, so as soon as we found out it was getting remade I was PUMPED. AND I HAD EVERY RIGHT TO BE. Dude, the contrast between Wilbur alone with his guitar and just EVERYTHING in this song is SO AMAZING. I’ve always loved the lyrics, the chorus, just everything AND THE ENDING HOLY SHIT. Best song, forever, you can never change my mind. 

Overall, best album ever, I’m in love, dear god it was everything I could’ve wanted and more lmao. Also, with the overall EP, I really like the stuff they’re doing with vocals! All of it between the screaming, the bits where the music cuts leaving just the voice, the echoy parts in “The Fall”, the shouting repetition, just ALL OF IT. It’s so neat and different and I can just picture us all screaming it at a concert. That, and the songs feel so much more personal this time, y’know? Like, not in a sad way, but the story is a lot clearer in each song and I love it god this album is so good props to everyone y’all killed it once again.

You heard JJ over the sound of the music blaring from inside the Chateau as you jogged up the steps, swinging your backpack off and throwing it on the porch sofa before pushing through the screen door.

“Hey, Y/N” John B waved at you as you entered the kitchen.

You threw a peace sign up and said ‘hey’ as you pulled a chair out and put your feet up to rest on the seat beside you. You hadn’t sat down since 6am when your shift at the docks had started and your feet were killing you. Your yellow vans had dirt on the side so you leaned forward to wipe it off as JJ pulled his head out of the fridge.

“Ah, m’Lady. For you” He tossed a beer at you, you tipped it at him in a ‘cheers’ as you both cracked your cans at the same time. “And how is our fair dock maiden on this beautiful day” He smiled at you like he had smiled at you a million times before, but softer, and like he was seeing you in a new dress.

You smiled at him and chuckled, you could smell the pot lingering on his shirt from here and his goofy grin always gave you butterflies. The sun coming through the window illuminated his soft golden hair and made his bare chest look even more defined and chiselled.

“Good” You said after swallowing your mouthful of beer, closing your eyes and leaning back in your chair.

“Anyways, as I was saying, it’s going to be an absolute and solid banger, my dude.” JJ resumed his conversation with John B while lifting your feet off the chair beside you and sitting down, placing your legs on his lap. “We’re going to be running away from girls by the end of the night, I promise you.” He started drawling circles on your ankles and playing with your shoelace. Your heart was fluttering.

You perked up at his comment, opening your eyes and looking from him to John B curiously.

“What are you two conspiring now” You prodded, taking another drink of your beer.

“Kegger. Tonight. The Bone Yard. You coming?” JJ looked over at you and smiled, his eyes soft. You swore you felt him outline a heart on your skin.

“Wouldn’t miss it” You said half-heartedly. You knew what this would turn out to be – you would have fun at the beginning of the night, then would spend the rest of the night watching JJ pick up touron girls and fully embrace his lifestyle of being an adolescent womanizer. It was a pattern.

You pulled your legs off him and stood up to walk to the washroom. While you were washing your hands you heard the usual lull of conversation drop and their voices become quieter. Your stomach fluttered, you felt like they were trying to be quiet on purpose. You pressed your ear to the door and listened intently, hearing John B say something about eventually needing to stop running after anything with boobs and a mouth. JJ’s voice was still quiet but you clearly heard him say “that’s not me bro. I’m not settling down, as if there’s anything to settle down for here.”

You felt your face get hot and your stomach drop. There it was. The confirmation you had been dreading but fully expecting for months. You had felt a connection with JJ since you had started spending more time together last summer, and throughout the entire school year you had felt like you guys had been clicking. Of course you had been hopeful he felt the same way, you hadn’t pushed it or asked. But you also knew what kind of guy JJ was, as much as it pained you to admit it. Of course he would never settle for a girl like you.

You cleared your throat as you opened the door and flicked the light off. When you rounded the corner, the boys sat back in their chairs again and kept chirping off about the party later. You barely said anything, just walked past the table and out the door where you saw Kie pulling up in her car. You grabbed your backpack off the couch and practically ran down the steps. You heard JJ call your name from inside the house but didn’t turn around.

“Kie” You said with a dramatic exhale when she got out of her car, grinning brightly at you. “Save me”

“What’s the haps my little sunflower” She lifted her sunglasses off her face on top of her head and put her arm around your shoulder, about to guide you back inside. You planted your feet and mustered the best begging face you could.

“Please, for the love of all things holy, take me away from here. I can’t sit there and listen to JJ talk about all the ‘fine ass’ he plans to tap tonight. Kie smiled sheepishly and poked a finger into your stomach.

“Girl. You know he only does that to make you jealous.”

Kie had known about your crush on JJ for years, but had promised to not say or do anything under fear of death. You shook your head at her and looked at your feet.

“Nah, Kie... I heard him….I heard him talking to John B when I was in the bathroom.”

“And?”

“And he literally said there is nothing here for me to settle down for. What more proof do I need?”

Kie’s face fell and she tilted her head, watching you with sad eyes. “I’m sorry, I’m sure he didn’t mean it like that. Just come inside for a bit. We can get ready for the Kegger together.”

You bit your lip and shook your head, stepping around her. So she wasn’t going to save you then. Of course she just wanted to spend more time with John B, you had noticed how she had started looking at him since he had been threatened with being placed out into foster care.

“Forget it. I’ll see you later.”

“Y/N, wait! Come on!” She yelled, but you just waved your hand behind you and kept walking. You grabbed your bike from the edge of the drive and started down the road.

You heard JJ yell your name from the porch but kept going.

You had pre-drank with one of the girls you worked the docks with, and had done little to get ready aside from taking your hair out of its braid and putting shimmer lotion over your darkly tanned skin. You had opted into wearing a skimpier outfit than you normally would have, but normally you wouldn’t be at a Kegger to pick someone up. Tonight was different. You had had a few hours to drink away your pain over JJ’s comment and come to terms with your new reality – the beer (and your co-worker who was 3 years older than you and known for working more than one job on the island if you catch the meaning) had convinced you it was a good idea to wear short shorts and a tube top (no bra which was weird for you), exposing so much skin your tan lines were visible. You tried as hard as you could to avoid JJ and John B and Kie for the first hour, but eventually Kie wandered over to you and stood with a hand on her hip, a very judgey expression on her face.

“You have a very judgey expression on your face” was all you said to her.

“So first you bail on me at John B’s and then you show up to the Kegger half cut and wearing a napkin as a top. JJ has been looking for you all night and said you kept walking away from him. What the fuck, Y/N?”

You grabbed a fresh beer from the too-young looking junior boy who was operating it and smiled hazily at him. When you looked back at Kie she was watching you like you had two heads.

“I just needed some space.” You said before taking a drink. Swallowing, you continued “it’s not every day you get your heart broken” you said blandly, then smacked your cup into hers and said “cheers” sarcastically before walking off.

Later in the night, after multiple beers and having seen JJ flirting with at least two different girls who were definitely not local, you stood over by the edge of the beach watching the waves pummel the shoreline rhythmically. That’s when you heard a boy say “you look lonely” from behind you. You spun around and smiled at the tall boy who had jet black hair and a Harvard sweater on. He had sparkling white teeth and dimples, even fairly drunk you could see how attractive and well-built he was.

“Alec” He smiled, stretching his hand out. You took it and loosely squeezed, shifting your weight to a different foot and losing your balance. “Easy there” he smiled, steadying you with his other hand.

“Y/N” You said in an embarrassingly slurred voice. You smiling knowingly and blushed. “Harvard?” You said tamely, pointing your cup hand at his sweater.

He nodded and flicked his hair, smiling. He started to say something but just past him you saw JJ standing next to a crowd, looking over at you. You felt your stomach plummet and your face get hot. He raised his hand to wave, but you stared back blankly. Perfect, this guy will do nicely. You thought and grabbed Alec’s face as he was mid-sentence, pressing your lips to his. He had frozen at first, but had quickly recuperated and started kissing you back, his hands moving to your back and butt. He was either more drunk then he looked, or he was a floozy. Probably the latter, being a Harvard kook.

You got lost in his mouth and his hands and his embrace for a few minutes until you heard someone clear their throat behind you.

“Y/N, time to go, bus is leaving.” The two of you broke apart and looked behind Alec to see JJ standing rather close, his arms crossed over his chest, unimpressed.

“Get lost, kid” Alec said to JJ, looking back at you and ducking his head to kiss you again.

“Seriously, Y/N. Come on.” JJ insisted. You both ignored him. “Alright, Kook. Kindly fuck off now.” JJ slammed his hands onto Alec’s shoulders and pulled him backwards off of you.

Alec spun around to shove JJ and JJ pushed his chest out, standing tall and matching Alec’s tall 6ft stature. They stood face to face, eyeing each other up and down.

“What’s your problem man?” Alec pushed JJ away from him with one hand.

“You’re mackin on my girl is my problem. Beat it!”

Alec looked from JJ back to you and rose his eyebrows before throwing his hands up and walking away muttering “control your girl then man, not my problem.”

“What the fuck, JJ!” You exclaimed, glaring at him. Your mind was still reeling, you hadn’t missed where he had said ‘mackin on my girl’.

“I told you, bus is leaving. You know the rules.”

“I’m not leaving with you.” You said with an ‘as if’ expression on your face. “I’m good. See ya”

You started to walk past him when you felt his arm reach out to block you. He looked over at you with a confused expression and moved to stand in front of you. Your eyebrows shot to 11’s as you stared at him.

“Seriously?” You said with an annoyed tone, trying to shove him out of the way.

“You’re drunk, Y/N. Let’s go.”

“I’m fine, like I said. And I’m not leaving with you, like I said.”

JJ looked equal parts confused and hurt now, but he stood his ground and held his arm out again when you tried to walk around him.

“What’s going on with you?” He said in a quieter tone now, trying to hold eye contact with you. You felt the sensation creeping back into your stomach that you felt so many times last summer and throughout the school year, the butterflies and the adrenaline. “Did you even know that guy?”

“No.” You stood firm and kept your head up. JJ looked at you expectantly and shook his head.

“Then what? What was that?”

“Oh, god JJ seriously? What!” You were raising your voice now. “I’m not allowed to have a little fun too? You’re such a fucking hypocrite.” You felt like you were sobering up slowly, but your words were still slurring lightly.

“What are you talking about?” JJ looked dumbfounded.

“Yeah, sure. Okay JJ. Whatever” You rolled your eyes and took a step back so you could breathe properly again, standing that close to him was suffocating. His eyes were wide and his face was genuinely confused. He opened his mouth to speak but raised his shoulders instead, pleadingly.

“Seriously? God…I heard you, okay? I heard you talking to John B. I heard you say that you weren’t the dating type, that there was nothing here for you to settle for anyways. I got it. Message received. So don’t act confused when I want to move on alright? That fucking hurt, man.”

Once you had finished your shoulders had slumped and you felt deflated. Oh, good lord. You hadn’t meant for the word vomit to come out that fast or at all really. Awesome, well done.

JJ looked taken back, then he looked concerned, then he settled on looking upset. He closed his eyes and ran his hand over his face, turning around for a second before turning back to you, putting his hands on his hips briefly.

“Y/N….” He started, taking a step towards you, but you stepped back and put your hands up.

“It’s fine. I just….forget it.” You said, then a wave of confidence hit you and you perked up, taking a step towards him. “It’s just…we had the best summer, you know? Like, the best summer. And this year was like…the best year I’ve had, ever. And now this. I don’t know, it just sucks.” You watched the shock wash over JJ’s face and felt suddenly guilty. “Forget it, its fine. I don’t know why I expected anything, I know I’m just…me” You looked down at your feet and suddenly felt very dizzy. You swayed on your feet and felt JJ’s hand reach out to steady you. He took a step closer and was directly in front of you now.

“Y/N, hey. Hey” He said until you looked up at him, startled by how close he suddenly was. His face was gentle but firm. He saw your face, probably looking slightly green, and walked you over to a log to sit down. He sat so close to you that your legs were firmly pressed together, he kept a hand on your arm and adjusted his seat to face you more directly.

“You never…said anything.” He said quietly, his eyes on you. “I thought you…ugh”

You looked over at him, embarrassed and fuzzy. Probably blushing. Fantastic. He looked at you with a smile now, newly happy about something.

“What” You poked, confused why he was suddenly in a good mood.

“I mean come on, Y/N. Look at you. You’re….way out of my league.” He was almost laughing.

“What” You said, now squinting to see him better, practically glaring.

“I always just…resigned myself to thinking you would end up with like…I don’t know a pogue Harvard sweater over there” He pointed to the direction Alec had walked off in. “I’m like…a dirty but moderately smart street rat.” He said mildly joking, but you could hear the insecurity undertone.

You felt your chest constricting and your heart pounding. Was he joking? He must be joking. You stared at each other for a few silent moments until you finally broke the tense silence.

“JJ you aren’t even moderately smart if you didn’t notice. I wasn’t that discreet.” You said quietly, looking at your lap again.

You opened your mouth to say that it was fine and you understood but as soon as you started to talk you felt JJ move towards you and lift his hand to your face and then suddenly he was pulling you towards him, kissing you firmly. Your brain and your heart and your chest and your stomach exploded with fire and adrenaline and you could feel your limbs numbing. You had wanted to kiss JJ for so long but now it was happening and you were so drunk and you had made such a fool of yourself and you didn’t know what to do so you kissed him back and tried to enjoy the feeling of his lips on yours. After a few seconds he pulled away and looked at you, then smiled and broke into a grin so big his dimples were practically squishing into his eyes.

You felt so warm and so happy that you melted towards JJ again and kissed him until your lips were sore and the music had died down and you heard someone clearing their throat.

“Bus is actually leaving” Kie smiled at you when you looked over JJ’s shoulder. She winked and walked backwards towards where Pope and John B were gathered, finishing their drinks and whistling.

“No pogue on pogue macking!” Pope shouted over at you, laughing as John B whistled and threw his empty cup towards you, hitting JJ in the arm. JJ waved them off and pulled you into his chest, laughing as the crew started littering a collection of empty cups at the two of you and yipping and hollering. You nuzzled into JJ’s chest, not quite ready for the moment to be over yet, and smiled. Finally.

Chaos Legion

Man.

Fucking Chaos Legion.

It's an hack and slash made by Capcom, it's not Devil may cry, but it's kinda close.

The plot is... I don't know how to describe it, it feels good enough, but it isn't delivered very well; it's about two edgy anime dudes, Sieg Wahrheit , which, by the way, is named after a fucking painting, and Victor DeLaCroix. Sieg ( the dude you control ) killed Siela, a girl who was very important to Victor, we don't know how or when, but now Victor has gone mad and wants to bring about the end of the world and bla bla bla bla

And, you know, this isn't THAT BAD, i mean, there's a little bit of mistery going on since we don't know why Sieg killed Siela or what's Victor’s plan etc, but it feels soooo clichè and it kinda makes it hard to take it too seriously, since fucking EVERYONE can't stop from making cringe anime poses in every single cutscene.

But enough of that shit, now for the gameplay. In this game you kill stuff, a lot of demon stuff and man does it feel great to kill stuff in this game. It controls like a standard third person hack and slash, you've got your standard 4 hits combo, a dodge roll, you can sidestep etc, but the interesting part comes with the legion system, your legion is basically your stand, you can choose up to 2 legions per level, there's about 7 of them and they all feel cool to use. You can use your legion by eiether performing an assist (your legion comes out for a single attack) or by just summoning them, which makes Sieg weaker and slower but the price to pay is well worth it. Sieg in general controls pretty well, the dodge roll is kinda trash and jumping away is always the better solution for dodging attacks. Also it feels sooooo cool to just walk around with your legion following you, makes for great screenshots too!

The levels are super linear, you go in a room, enemies spawn, you kill them, go to the next room, repeat. BUT, surprisingly, it doesn't get boring! Killing shit just feels good and there's enough room for you to experiment and play around with your legion to see what works and what doesn't, and it's something that you'll have to do cause this game doesn't fuck around, even on the standard difficulty some levels will kick your ass for a while, but the game isn't very long so it doesn't get too frustrating. Bosses are also pretty good for the most part, even if a bit gimmicky.

*im too cool to look into the camera* This leads me to talking about something else; the lenght of Chaos Legion. It's pretty short, about 5 hours to finish up the campaign, but you can also get back on the already completed levels to get more exp and high scores etc etc. The thing is, those 5 hours will feel much, much longer than what they really are. I would normally be able to finish a game that lasts 5 hours in one sitting, but Chaos Legion fucking EXHAUSTED me, after every couple levels i just had to close the damn thing cause i was phisically getting tired, but in a good way! Im not sure how to describe it, you should try this for yourself. One of the things that can make the whole experience feel frustrating is the lack of a decent tutorial for most of your moves, or any kind of explanation on how to level up your damn legion really. For example, at one point i kept on bumping into items that i just couldn’t reach with my normal jump, i went into the menus and found out that i was supposed to be able to jump higher thanks to one of my legions but it didn’t really tell me how, turns out you have to level up the ‘’enchant’’ attribute to get passive bonuses for Sieg, which kind of fucking sucks. Speaking of level up, there are two ways to get stronger, exp ( which is used for your legions only ) and items, items straight up increase your attributes permamently, and there’s no end to them, so in theory you could just repeat a level over and over again to farm stat-boosting items to get stupidly op, but there wasn’t really a need to do that. You can see that as a kind of last resort, if the game is getting too intense, you’re taking too much damage or not dealing enough, just retreat and farm a bit, it can only get easier. To wrap this up, there are two last things i want to mention At one point in the game you get to play as another character, Arcia, who duel wields guns, and honestly, despite her having a single level, she’s just so much more fun to play as than Sieg! The whole time i was playing her level i kept on thinking ‘’man i wish there was a whole game where you play as her’’ which i found pretty interesting, given how usually games throw at you ‘’alternative’’ levels (such as the ones with vehicles in crash bandicoot) and they can be total trash or just boring, when here it’s just better than the base game!

And now, for the audio. The audio is really fucked up. The voice acting is... decent, about what you would expect from a sunday morning anime, the sound effects are way too fucking loud, i really suggest turning them down first thing after you boot up the game, but the music is FANTASTIC, honestly, the boss themes are absolute banger and they immediatly ended up in my playlist, if you’re not sure about playing this try to look up the boss theme, you’ll want to play this after hearing that!
