Another Day / Oh Woman Oh Why / God / Remember
'...in our songwriting, I had signs that the group was gonna break up...'
(Paul McCartney, April, 1985, interview on German television show Exclusiv)
8th April 1970
I told John on the phone the other day that at the beginning of last year I was annoyed with him. I was jealous because of Yoko, and afraid about the break-up of a great musical partnership. It’s taken me a year to realise that they were in love. Just like Linda and me.
(Paul McCartney, interview, Evening Standard, April 21-22, 1970)
So he rang me up that day and said I’m doing what you and Yoko are doing, I’m putting out an album, and I’m leaving the group too, he said. I said good. I was feeling a little strange, because he was saying it this time, although it was a year later, and I said “good,” because he was the one that wanted the Beatles most, and then the midnight papers came out.
(John Lennon, interview with Jann Wenner for Rolling Stone)
9th April 1970
Q: "Did you enjoy working as a solo?" PAUL: "Very much. I only had me to ask for a decision, and I agreed with me. Remember Linda's on it too, so it's really a double act." … Q: "Did you miss the other Beatles and George Martin? Was there a moment when you thought, 'I wish Ringo were here for this break?'" PAUL: "No." ... Q: "Are you planning a new album or single with the Beatles?" PAUL: "No." … Q: "Is your break with the Beatles temporary or permanent, due to personal differences or musical ones?" PAUL: "Personal differences, business differences, musical differences, but most of all because I have a better time with my family. Temporary or permanent? I don't really know." Q: "Do you foresee a time when Lennon-McCartney becomes an active songwriting partnership again?" PAUL: "No." … Q: "What are your plans now? A holiday? A musical? A movie? Retirement?" PAUL: "My only plan is to grow up!"
(Paul McCartney, press release 'McCartney')
(Btw, Stuart Sutcliffe died 10th April 1962)
17th April 1970 - McCartney album released
April 21-22, 1970 - interview Paul McCartney in Evening Standard
Last year John said he wanted a divorce. All right, so do I. I want to give him that divorce. I hate this trial separation because it’s just not working. Personally, I don’t think John could do the Beatles thing now. I don’t think it would be good for him.
(Paul McCartney, Evening Standard, April 21-22, 1970)
On the eve of the release of the Beatles new movie and album “Let it Be,” Paul McCartney said, “I quit,” or “I think I quit,” which is roughly the same thing. As a publicity stunt, it’s as good or bad as any stunt they ever appeared to pull. But like every stunt they never did pull, this isn’t one either. McCartney’s declaration of independence was entirely impromptu, spontaneous and personal… <…>
I guess the way it stacks up now and the way it was around the time when Paul dropped the big on is that he wants right out of it all and they don’t.
(The Party's Over for the Beatles by Derek Taylor)
April 30, 1970, interview for Rolling Stone
A: No one has mentioned anything about doing another Beatles album. <…> Q: What about your relationship with John? He tells me that you haven’t spoken to him in two months. A: I don’t know really. Normally I would phone him or go out to Weybridge and visit him, as I have done a lot in the past. I was that kind of person. But now I don’t go out at all and I don’t bother looking for it any more. I would rather be in bed than at the clubs. He hasn’t called me and I haven’t called him but it doesn’t mean anything. We haven’t had an argument. John is very busy at the moment. I don’t like to be busy. I don’t feel the need to. Neither of us really want to talk to each other at the moment. If we run into each other at Apple or we are making a record, I would see him but otherwise I really don’t call him. That is the way it has always been. In fact, the truth of the matter is we just haven’t called each other up lately. I don’t really think about it. I will see him when I see him. And I love him just the same.
*Btw, on the cover of Rolling Stone №58 (April 30, 1970) Paul wear well known (and not only us) shirt - just like starting over, yeah*
April 1970, London John and Yoko undertook primal therapy
*Great post about Arthur Janov and his Primal Scream therapy*
As I realised this it all started to fall into place. This therapy forced me to have done with all the God shit. All of us growing up have come to terms with too much pain. Although we repress it, it’s still there. The worst pain is that of not being wanted, of realising your parents do not need you in the way you need them.
(John Lennon, The Lost John Lennon Interview by Tariq Ali and Robin Blackburn)
13th May 1970 US première of Let It Be film20th May 1970 UK première of Let It Be film
John and Yoko went to Los Angeles for four months of intensive therapy with Dr. Arthur Janov (June through September)
John Lennon was in a movie theater, crying. The image of Paul, singing from the rooftop in the final ten minutes, had set him off. Jann Wenner shifted in his seat. In the darkness of a tiny movie house in San Francisco, the Beatle, Wenner’s hero, whose iconic spectacles and nose adorned the first issue of his rock-and-roll newspaper, Rolling Stone, had tears running down his cheeks as light flickered off his glasses. And next to him was Yoko Ono, the bête noire of Beatledom, raven hair shrouding her porcelain face, also weeping. It was a Saturday afternoon in the spring of 1970, and John and Yoko and Jann and his wife, Jane Wenner, were watching the final scenes of Let It Be, the documentary about the Beatles’ acrimonious last recording session. John and Yoko were deep into primal scream therapy, their emotions raw and close to the surface, and the image of a bearded Paul McCartney singing from the rooftop of Apple Records, against a cold London wind, was too much to bear. Get back to where you once belonged… <…> “And it’s just the four of us in the center of an empty theater,” marveled Wenner, “all kind of huddled together, and John is crying his eyes out.” Lennon and Ono had driven up from Los Angeles to meet the San Francisco fanboy who had bottled the counterculture and now commanded 200,000 readers. Wenner received the couple like visiting royalty to his spanking-new offices on Third Street… <…> When they got out to stretch their legs on Polk Street at four in the afternoon—the skies overcast, not a soul on the sidewalk—they chanced upon a little movie house showing a matinee of the Beatles film Let It Be. Wenner figured John Lennon of all people had seen it, but he hadn’t. Just as surprising, the woman selling tickets didn’t recognize Lennon—another bearded hippie who looked like John Lennon—and none of the half a dozen people in the theater noticed that John and Yoko themselves had ducked in. “It was so emotional to see Paul up on the roof and singing,” recounted Jane Wenner. “First of all, it was hard to believe John had never seen it before. And he was so taken aback.” An hour later, blinking in the evening light, Jann and Jane Wenner were crying, too. They began to hug, all four of them, on the sidewalk. “He’s crying, she’s crying, and we’re just trying to hold on to ourselves,” Wenner said. “You’re there helping come to the emotional rescue of the Beatles.”
(Sticky Fingers: The Life and Times of Jann Wenner and Rolling Stone Magazine by Joe Hagan, 2017)
August 29, 1970
'Dear Mailbag, In order to put out of its misery the limping dog of a news story which has been dragging itself across your pages for the past year, my answer to the question, “Will The Beatles get together again?” … is no.’
(Paul McCartney in Melody Maker)
Ev'ry day she takes a morning bath she wets her hair, Wraps a towel around her as she's heading for the bedroom chair It's just another day <…> So sad, so sad, Sometimes she feels so sad <…> As she posts another letter to the sound of five, People gather 'round her and she finds it hard to stay alive. It's just another day…
(Another Day, written circa 1968, was recorded 12 October 1970 and was completed on 21 January 1971 at Studio CBS Studios, New York City)
15 September 1970 John and Yoko returned from US in GB
26 September – 23 October 1970 John and Yoko recorded John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band
9th October 1970, his 30th birthday, John records Remember
10th October 1970
The night after ‘Remember’ was recorded, Lennon invited his father Alf to dinner at Tittenhurst Park. Alf Lennon brought his young wife Pauline and their 18-month-old son David Henry Lennon.
Alf later described the event in a four-page handwritten statement which he sent to his solicitor.
'He launched into an account of his recent visit to America, and as the story unfolded, so the self inflicted torture began to show in his face, and his voice rose to a scream as he likened himself to Jimi Hendrix and other pop stars who had recently departed from the scene, ending in a crescendo as he admitted he was ‘Bloody mad, insane’ and due for an early demise. It seemed he had gone to America, at great expense to have some kind of treatment through drugs, which enabled one to go back and relive from early childhood the happenings, which in his own case, he should have been happier to forget. I was now listening to the result of this treatment as he reviled his dead mother in unspeakable terms, referring, also, to the aunt who had brought him up, in similar derogatory terms, as well as one or two of his closest friends. I sat through it all, completely stunned, hardly believing that this was the kind considerate ‘Beatle’ John Lennon talking to his father with such evil intensity… There was no doubt whatsoever in my mind, that he meant every word he spoke, his countenance was frightful to behold, as he explained in detail, how I would be carried out to sea and dumped, ‘twenty – fifty – or perhaps you would prefer a hundred fathoms deep.’ The whole loathsome tirade was uttered with malignant glee, as though he were actually participating in the terrible deed.'
(Alfred Lennon)
Well, I met her at the bottom of a well (Of a well) Well, I told her I was trying to break a spell (Break a spell) But I can't get by, my hands are tied I don't know why I ever got her to try myself 'Cause I can't get by, my hands are tied <…> Well, I'm fed up with your lying, cheating ways (Cheating ways) But I get up every morning and every day (Every day) But I can't get by, my hands are tied I don't why I want her to try myself 'Cause I can't get by, my hands are tied Oh, woman, oh why, why, why, why, why What have I done? Oh, woman, oh, where, where, where, where, where Did you get that gun? Woman, what, hey, what have I done? Oh, what have you done?Woman what have I done?
(Oh Woman Oh Why, was recorded 3 November and 6-11 December 1970 at Studio CBS Studios, New York City)
We used to get asked at press conferences, 'What are you going to do when the bubble bursts?' When I talked to John just the other day, he said something about, 'Well, the bubble's going to burst.' And I said, 'It has burst. That's the point. That's why I've had to do this, why l had to apply to the court. You don't think I really enjoy doing that kind of stuff. I had to do it because the bubble has burst - everywhere but on paper.' That's the only place we're tied now. <…> I first said, 'No, we can't do that. We'll live with it.'
(Paul McCartney, April 16th 1971, interview with Richard Merryman for Life Magazine)
In January 1969, we were making a film in a studio at Twickenham, which was dismal and cold, and we were all getting a bit fed up with our surroundings. In front of the cameras, as we were actually being filmed, Paul started to ‘get at’ me about the way I was playing. I decided I had had enough and told the others I was leaving. This was because I was musically dissatisfied. After a few days, the others asked me to return and since I did not wish to leave them in the lurch in the middle of filming and recording, and since Paul agreed that he would not try to interfere or teach me how to play, I went back. Since the row, Paul has treated me more as a musical equal. I think this whole episode shows how a disagreement could be worked out so that we all benefited. I just could not believe it when, just before Christmas, I received a letter from Paul’s lawyers. I still cannot understand why Paul acted as he did.
(George Harrison, 'The Beatles Diary Volume 2: After The Break-Up 1970-2001' by Keith Badman)
I was shocked and dismayed, after Mr. McCartney’s promises about a meeting of all four Beatles in London in January, that a writ should have been issued on December 31. I trust Paul and I know he would not lightly disregard his promise. Something serious, about which I have no knowledge, must have happened between Paul’s meeting with George in New York [at the start of December] and the end of December.
(Ringo Starr, 'The Beatles Diary Volume 2: After The Break-Up 1970-2001' by Keith Badman)
8th December 1970 John and Yoko give interview known as Lennon Remembers (was publishedlater, in January 1971)
11th December 1970 was released John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band
God is a concept by which we measure our pain I'll say it again God is a concept by which we measure our pain, yeah Pain, yeah
I don't believe in magic <…> I don't believe in Elvis I don't believe in Zimmerman I don't believe in Beatles
I just believe in me Yoko and me And that's reality
The dream is over What can I say? The dream is over Yesterday I was the dream weaver, but now I'm reborn I was the Walrus, but now I'm John And so dear friends, you'll just have to carry on The dream is over
(God, was recorded 26 September – 23 October 1970, was released 11 December 1970)
*something about the dream*
She [Yoko] spoke in a really tiny voice, and she always referred to the Beatles in a peculiar, impersonal third-party way: “Beatles will do this, Beatles will do that,” never failing to leave off the “The.” That used to really irritate Paul. On occasion, he’d even try correcting her: “Actually, it’s the Beatles, luv,” but she persistently ignored him.
(Geoff Emerick in Here, There and Everywhere about recording Abbey Road)
Remember when you were young How the hero was never hung Always got away
Remember how the man Used to leave you empty handed Always, always let you down
If you ever change your mind About leaving it all behind Remember, remember today Hey hey
And don't feel sorry The way it's gone And don't you worry About what you've done
Just remember When you were small How people seemed so tall Always had their way Hey hey
Do you remember your ma and pa Just wishing for movie stardom Always, always playing a part
If you ever feel so sad And the whole world is driving you mad Remember, remember today Hey hey <…> Remember, the Fifth of November
(Remember, was recorded 9 October 1970, was released 11 December 1970)
If you ever change your mind/About leaving it all behind is the quote from Sam Cooke’s 1962 song Bring It On Home To Me (Paul and John sang it and recorded solo versions: John on Rock 'N' Roll, Paul on СНОВА В СССР)
The line 'Remember, the Fifth of November' reminds all who grown in England the nursery rhyme: “Remember, remember the fifth of November/Gunpowder, treason and plot/I see no reason why gunpowder, treason/Should ever be forgot.”
'It was just an ad lib. It was about the third take, and it begins to sound like Frankie Laine – when you’re singing ‘remember, remember the fifth of November.’ And I just broke and it went on for about another seven or eight minutes. I was just ad libbing and goofing about. But then I cut it there and it just exploded ’cause it was a good joke.'
(John Lennon, interview with Jann Wenner for Rolling Stone)
'Well, there was this Japanese monk, and it happened in the last 20 years. He was in love with this big golden temple, y’know, he really dug it, like—and you know he was so in love with it, he burnt it down so that it would never deteriorate.
That’s what I did with the Beatles.'
(John Lennon, interview with Alan Smith for NME: At home with the Lennons, August 7th, 1971)
So then we began to talk again about the suit, over and over. I just saw that I was not going to get out of it. From my last phone conversation with John, I think he sees it like that. He said, 'Well, how do you get out?' <…> My lawyer, John Eastman, he's a nice guy and he saw the position we were in, and he sympathized. We'd have these meetings on top of hills in Scotland, we'd go for long walks. I remember when we actually decided we had to go and file suit. We were standing on this big hill which overlooked a loch - it was quite a nice day, a bit chilly - and we'd been searching our souls. Was there any other way? And we eventually said, 'Oh, we've got to do it.' The only alternative was seven years with the partnership - going through those same channels for seven years.
(Paul McCartney, April 16th 1971, interview with Richard Merryman for Life Magazine)
On December 31, 1970 Paul McCartney filed a lawsuit against the other three Beatles – John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr – and Apple Corps, in London’s High Court, seeking an end to The Beatles’ contractual partnership, and requesting that a receiver should be appointed to manage Apple till the case is settled.
21th January 1971
Rolling Stone publish John and Yoko interview with Jann Wenner: 'I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever done' (about John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band), 'I’m influenced by her music 1000 percent more than I ever was by anybody or anything' (about Yoko), 'I thought Paul’s was rubbish' (about McCartney album), 'the music was dead before we even went on the theater tour of Britain' (about The Beatles), 'I’m a fucking artist, and I’m not a fucking P.R. Agent or the product of some other person’s imagination' (about his, Paul and George contribution in The Beatles music), '…film was set-up by Paul for Paul. That is one of the main reasons the Beatles ended. I can’t speak for George, but I pretty damn well know we got fed up of being side-men for Paul' and 'On top of that, the people that cut it, did it as if Paul is God and we are just lyin’ around there', ''It was another one like Magical Mystery Tour. <…> I was stoned all the time and I just didn’t give a shit…' 'And I knew there were some shots of Yoko and me that had been just chopped out of the film for no other reason than the people were oriented for Englebert Humperdinck' (about Let It Be) After Brian died, we collapsed. Paul took over and supposedly led us. But what is leading us, when we went round in circles? We broke up then. That was the disintegration. <…> 'Paul had an impression, he has it now like a parent, that we should be thankful for what he did for keeping the Beatles going. But when you look back upon it objectively, he kept it going for his own sake. Was it for my sake Paul struggled?' 'That’s what I’m saying: I was the Walrus, whatever that means' etc.
(John Lennon, interview with Jann Wenner for Rolling Stone)
Q: What was your reaction when you read that stuff at the time? A: Oh, I hated it. You can imagine, I sat down and pored over every little paragraph, every little sentence. “Does he really think that of me?” I thought. And at the time, I thought, “It’s me. I am. That’s just what I’m like. He’s captured me so well; I’m a turd, you know.” I sat down and really thought, I’m just nothin’. But then, well, kind of people who dug me like Linda said, “Now you know that’s not true, you’re joking. He’s got a grudge, man; the guy’s trying to polish you off.” Gradually I started to think, great, that’s not true. I’m not really like Engelbert; I don’t just write ballads. And that kept me kind of hanging on; but at the time, I tell you, it hurt me. Whew. Deep.
(Paul McCartney, interview with Paul Gambaccini for Rolling Stone, published 31 Jan 1974)
26 January 1971
At A&R Studios in NYC Paul added to Oh Woman Oh Why the sounds of firing blanks from a revolver.
So, @i-am-the-oyster, I think - both of them

I have such a difficult time connecting with the Cats community now. Part of me feels like maybe I'm too old for the current fandom(I don't feel old, but I'm certainly not 19 anymore). Or that perhaps it's because I don't much care about ships. Sometimes I worry that I intimidate people, and I'd hate that. Let me introduce myself and how Cats has shaped my life, and maybe I can find my people?
I first saw Cats at a tiny local theatre when I was eight. I fell in love with it, and even though I didn't have the movie yet, I spent months afterwards with just the poem book and highlights album. Eventually I got the 98 VHS too- and then another local theatre put it on when I was ten! I got to see it twice there. And afterwards, I made up my own attempt at a costume, turned our spare room into my attempt at the set, and put some chairs in there to put on the highlights show for some friends of my mother. The CD was worn out, I went on with the show, and they even gave me a card and a new CD afterwards- the London 2 disc set! Looking back, I think how embarrassing it probably was, but I was so happy and proud of myself in the moment. Two more years later, US Tour 5 came through Nashville, and I got to go and stagedoor for the first time. I wore a tail I made and one of the actresses told me I had a perfect Bombalurina tail twirl. For all those years, I worked Cats into school projects, I drew nothing else. My mom put up with it for so long, and I still thank her to this day.
And then I went into middle school. New school, new students, and I started getting bullied for it. I found other musicals I didn't get bullied for- Phantom, Wicked, and Sweeney- to latch onto, and I kinda put Cats in the back of my head. I still loved it, but my hyperfixation had waned thanks to mean kids, and other than occasionally watching the 1998 movie, I didn't think much of it for years.
But the US Tour 6 announced a date in Nashville. I hadn't seen the show in eight years, and I wasn't about to miss it. I had already started taking an interest in cosplay, but I'd never made a costume like that. I remembered admiring the CCDB as a kid though, and I told myself I was totally capable of making my own, just to go see the show in costume. And I did.
And the cast were SO sweet, and I started finding Cats fans on Instagram. I thought I could do better on the costume, so when the show stopped in Chattanooga a couple months later... I did it again.
The pandemic hit and I lost my job. Immediately I started getting work making Cats cosplays for others, and I haven't stopped since. And when the show resumed, I made an overnight trip to Memphis to dress up again!
And then, I saved until I could finally go see the Royal Caribbean production (front row all three performances), and got to cosplay on the cruise and get a picture on stage with the cast! This was absolutely everything to me, especially seeing the original choreography as opposed to the revival. I definitely cried. (I'm in the middle bottom row!)
I've gotten to make some costume pieces for three regional productions of Cats, in the Dominican Republic, Atlanta Georgia, and most recently Georgetown Texas. I've won some local cosplay contest with my costumes, too! And I'm lucky enough to own a few original pieces- though I've had to part with some too.
My love for this show has spanned just over 17 years now. I adore the story, the costumes, the choreography, the sets, and the characters. It's part of how I learned I am autistic. It's given me confidence I didn't know I could find. And every time I get to see it live, I feel like I'm where I belong. The fandom has felt quiet. And I'm not sure if that's just because I don't know where I fit in? So here's hoping I can find my tribe.
Favorite productions: Original Broadway, Moscow, and Mexico 2013/2018
Favorite Cats: Jemima/Sillabub, Bombalurina, Demeter, Munkustrap, Tumblebrutus, Jellylorum
Favorite songs: Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats, The Song of the Jellicles and the Jellicle Ball, Macavity
Favorite cats to cosplay: Etcetera and Victoria

CAN WE GET A ALBUMS YHEY WOULD FUCK WITH PART TWO? any characters u want!!
teehee i didn't know y'all rocked w the first - lmk if i missed anyone, or if you want a girls version/an akatsuki version - thank you so much for the request!! :)
Albums I Think They Would Fuck With 2
They: Choji, Kiba, Shino, Sai, Neji, Lee, Kankuro, Gaara, Shisui, Gai, Asuma, Yamato, Jiraiya
Summary: Which of my fav albums I think each of my fav Naruto men would enjoy the most - also a classic rock recommendation list (if you rock w the character, you'd probably get down to the album)
Fav not here? Try part 1, or send me a request!
Masterlist💿
Choji
Without a Net (Live) by The Grateful Dead
Choji would be soooo salty that he never got to go to a Dead show, because he doesn't think their studio albums hold a candle to their live performances. That said, he would adore the Grateful Dead, without long and experimental their songs are (there's something to appreciate about not having to flip the record for an hour, instead of forty minutes).
Kiba
Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Deadass, he would think Pet Sounds is a much better album than Sgt. Pepper, and there is no way to convince him otherwise. Kiba would want to be a Wilson brother.
Shino
Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel
Ugh, so relaxing, so dreamy, and so easy to sing along. Shino would so love this album, because it would relax him in a way that only Si & Garf could.
Sai
Begin Here by The Zombies
Sai would love the shredding vocals and how full the music is, even the sad songs - the lyrics from multiple songs off this album would speak to him on multiple levels.
Neji
Deliver by The Mamas and The Papas
Melancholic but gentle, while still delivering strong, hopeful messages? Yeah, pen Neji down rn.
Lee
Love Grows & Other Gems by Edison Lighthouse
Screaming and crying over this - Lee would be so taken by the love songs, and he'd be whistling the darling melodies all the time. Even the ballads, Lee would be singing so beautifully.
Kankuro
Thirty Three & 1/3 by George Harrison
Would love the jazz, love the symbolism, love George Harrison. Kankuro would find this album chock-full of bangers. Not one of these tunes would be skipped, not until Kankuro has experienced it (he also will turn back the needle if he felt he wasn't appreciating a song properly).
Gaara
The Stranger (Legacy Edition) by Billy Joel
Needs to be the Legacy Edition, because Gaara fucks with the B-side heaviest (y'all need to indulge rn). He literally cries to Billy Joel's voice, and loves to forget about things while he listens to this album.
Shisui
Moving by Peter, Paul and Mary
Happy cries to this album over memories that aren't even his. He wouldn't be able to stop himself from singing along, especially to Puff and Tiny Sparrow.
Gai
Tommy by The Who
He would go an see the live show - and he would think that Tommy was a real person (before he sits down to chew on the possibility of a deaf, dumb, and blind kid being a pinball champion). Gai would still find the spirit of Tommy to be an inspiration and a testament to the power of youth.
Asuma
Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Hot damn, what is there to say? Asuma would literally wish he was John Bonham (Jimmy Page would be a far too ambitious pick, and he would know that, but never admit it).
Yamato
It Ain't Me Babe by The Turtles
Awe, sweetie!!! He would love this album for the love songs, but tell everyone he loved it for the revolution ballads (also lowk hates the stereo recordings, but finds mono too boring).
Jiraiya
Monty Python Sings by the Monty Python troupe
Oh, he fucks with regular music too, of course. But these. These songs would make him laugh so hard, on top of being so strangely good, and he would fuck with the Monty Python movies so hard.

So I listened to the album...
And took notes during every song on my current in the moment thoughts.
I'll say right here that it was not bad, it just wasn't my most favorite thing either. Technically speaking, almost everyone's voices were gorgeous and the instrumentals were all relatively good so I'm not hating on anyone at all.
So anyway here's my notes
Sorry they're so odd, and also if it seems like i state something that gets addressed later in the song it's probably because i wrote down what i was thinking before they said it in the song.
All in all, it wasn't bad but i have a few notes:
The characterization of the warriors are kind of strange, some of them get more development than they had in the movie which i like, but some of them are just flat out weird
Im so sorry to kim dracula but i do not like how he acts as luther 😭 it sounds like hes trying a little too hard to act crazy? Maybe im just griping
Some of the pacing is so odd, like maybe im blinded by my love of the movie, but i feel like the way some scenes play out could have been written a lot better
My biggest thing is that a lot of these songs dont sound like musical theater. like i know im not a super genius playwright like LMM, but a good deal of the songs in here sound like early 2010s pop music. A lot of them are just missing the impact that musical theater has, and I know that LMM can do that. while i really dont like hamilton-- i have to admit that hamilton feels like a musical while this feels more like an homage to the warriors.
Anyways thats probably it, if you need me to clarify any of my thoughts from here please let me know and ill try to explain what i meant
#the warriors#the warriors 1979#the warriors movie#music#musical#the warriors musical#im so sorry it was kind of mid#everyone involved is so so talented and im not dissing them though

Trying to understand the logic of people saying they’re done with Watcher and Ryan and Shane but will turn around and watch Buzzfeed Unsolved which has *checks notes* Ryan and Shane.
Yeah tbh. I think I can kinda understand it, it's like you're listening to earlier albums of your fave music artist, because they changed the genre with their latest album and you don't vibe with their new songs or watch a tv show's earlier seasons because the later one's totally destroyed the characters you liked. (Happened to me, like some things seriously had only two seasons and I'm ignoring the five next ones and two movies or whatever.)
So in that aspect I can kinda get it. Bfu started 8 years ago, that's a whole almost decade, and sometimes you don't really think of the quality of the content (because I will once again die on the hill that waverly gf ep is much better than waverly bfu I'm still confused how a show this badly made took off in the yt algo back in the day), but what it made you feel like, or where you were in life when you first watched/got into it. There's a kind of nostalgia attached to it and I imagine all of those fans who are like "I hate ghost files but I loooove bfu it's my comfort show", don't really care that it's Ryan and Shane it's the familiarity of watching it over and over for years and it being more memeable and quotable because those lines got repeated and memed to death over the years.
For example I don't really find myself coming back to the earliest eps of bfu if I had to rewatch them. I much prefer Ryan's normal voice to his theory one, and that's because seasons 6 and 7 are when Watcher was a thing, and their interpersonal relationship changed to a more "I like it here, we are friends". In the earlier seasons they aren't that close, Shane is more closed off and assholeish towards Ryan, and well Ryan is younger and thus more kind of playing a cool dude. I feel like he got to be more himself as the years went on and I like that.
That's also the odd thing about being a fan of real people as there is an interesting dichotomy to it. Like on one hand I respect them for what they do their comedy/craft/ability to express their creativity. On the other there's the respect for them as individuals, acknowledging that at the end of the day they are like. Just some guys making stuff. And people grow and change. You're not the same person you were at 25 when you are 34, you are not the same person you were at 30 and 38, but since you got immortalized at 25 and 30 and continue to make content for years people expect you to be always like that. A character that doesn't change, or changes according to a logic of a story. But real life is so much stranger and more interesting than that! There's no logic to your actions, you make mistakes and grow from them. At the time of making a decision you have no idea if it's a good or bad one or how it will go, and if you think you do I don't think you had serious choices to make in your life yet. But I think people expect of them to be those characters who don't change or grow. I assume those people have no respect for Ryan and Shane as real human beings, because they have some imagined version of them how they are presented in those episodes they watched over and over. So to them it doesn't matter that bfu has Ryan and Shane, because those are seen as different characters, not the "evil greedy capitalists who made their own company", but your friends that you know the best because you can quote their lines as you watch them in the background. And additionally there's the nostalgia of watching your beloved show that makes you feel younger because life was simpler back then. You didn't have your worries of adult life because you were in college/high school, and bfu reminds them of that. The fact that it's not giving watcher any money is only better for the haters bc it's like pirating. You still enjoy your favorite part of your blorbos, and don't feed "the big evil watcher" so kinda best of both worlds.
Some people also can't admit that the content didn't change that much, they just lost interest/grew out of it (and it's fine, interests change that's normal), but that's not on them, that's surely on Ryan and Shane for changing and evolving in their craft.
Baffling to me tbh because if I was a fan of them I'd wish them well not for their downfall and contribute to lower views by giving it to a big corporation (which isn't watcher). But that's just me.
Sorry this got deep I just am so tired of people saying bfu is better. It's really not you just miss the person you were when you watched it for the first time. That's the case with every 'comfort' show. It's why it brings you comfort. Real people behind it don't really matter.

MEAN GIRLS MUSICAL MOVIE LESGOOO
I literally just found out about this today and- yeah yeah yeah I know the musical got a lot of hate but genuinely I adored it (and it was one of my go-tos whenever I got dragged to a scary horror movie!). So to find out that they're making a movie out of it..... I mean yes, I've got some mixed feelings, but mostly I'm excited!
I've listened to the movie album on Spotify already, and held it up against the original. I have lots of opinions.
Cast Performance
Erika Henningsen vs Angourie Rice as Cady Heron: I’m sorry Angourie I’m sure you’re great but Erika really put her soul into her Broadway performance. So much emotion, so much energy and personality in her voice. By comparison, Angourie mostly seems to be singing to sound good rather than to communicate parts of the story in the musical. (I will say however that she did do pretty good in her last song, “I See Stars”.)
Taylor Louderman vs Renee Rap as Regina George: Renee! She did actually play Regina on Broadway after Taylor Louderman. Truth be told, I love Taylor’s version (lol) the best but Renee’s is nothing to sneeze at either. 10/10, no notes.
Ashley Park vs Bebe Wood as Gretchen: Ashley Park did it better. Bebe’s songs are.. okay. But they did cut a lot of Gretchen’s lines in the MG 2024 Spotify album, so that does affect her rating.
Kate Rockwell vs Avantika as Karen: I can’t choose, they both did a good job with their roles. I feel like Kate’s Karen really echoed Amanda Seyfried’s Karen in the original movie, but from what I could tell in the Spotify album, Avantika’s spin on Karen sounds equally good. I do wish they’d given her more songs/lines!
Barrett Wilbert Weed vs Auliʻi Cravalho as Janis!! OH MY FUCKING GOD you guys. If Renee gets a 10/10 Auli gets an 11/10 from me. Auli'i definitely did her homework. Amazing, amazing, amazing.
Grey Henson vs Jaquel Spivey as Damien: There's absolutely nothing wrong with Grey's version of Damien, it's a very good match for the movie one. But Jaquel’s Damien? He had such a beautiful voice, he really went above and beyond for Damien. My vote’s for Jaquel all the way.
The Songs
I won’t be listing them all because that would make this post much too long but here are my highlights:
They cut “It Roars” for “What Ifs” in the movie. Booo. “It Roars” told a good story, “What Ifs” is forgettable, in my opinion.
Auliʻi Cravalho’s version of “Revenge Party” is awesome. She absolutely killed it (/positive) and although I’m not one to usually approve lyric changes, I love the enhancement to Janis’ character by making the song more bloodthirsty.
Renee Rap nailed “Someone Gets Hurt” but I expected no less of course.
They changed some of the lyrics in some of the songs. Some of the lyric changes were just one line, or shifting around of roles ("Apex Predator").
“Meet the Plastics” got pared down in the movie album. Actually, a lot of songs got pared down for the movie album, or just moved altogether. I guess it was to adjust for time, and also to accommodate Angourie Rice’s vocal range. Aaron apparently has no singing roles at all.
"What's Wrong With Me" is another one that got pared down. The original song from the Broadway version tops this one, hands down. Had more plot and characterisation to it, this one was. Not it.
They cut Karen's funny lines in the beginning of the song "Sexy" which. Again, is such a shame. Avantika did amazing though.
They changed parts of "I See Stars", but I'm not mad at it tbh
Final Thoughts
I think my main gripe with the movie (from what I can tell based on the Spotify album) is that Angourie Rice is just not built for the powerful belting songs that Cady sings in the musical. That’s not bad, but I just. Surely they could have found another actress to play Cady? One who could actually perform in a musical? I’m a little tired of people being cast in a movie musical and still singing as if they’re trying to record an album. They’re two different things, people.
I guess they were trying to communicate Cady’s innocent and naïve personality in the original movie? but they cut out the rest of her personality in the new songs, making her just. So flat. This is particularly noticeable in the Broadway version of “Stupid With Love” vs the movie one. We were also robbed of Cady's growl in the line "watch me shake my mane" from "Apex Predator" (which is one of my favourite parts of the musical!) It’s tragic, is what it is. I don’t think this is necessarily all Angourie’s fault- mostly, this is poor writing and/or directing.
Similar gripe with Christopher Briney, Aaron’s actor in the movie. Apparently, he didn’t even want the role when he found out it would be a musical, so they cut out Aaron’s singing parts for him. Like?? Just? Hire someone else? It’s a musical, they ought to be committing to it.
Auliʻi has such a freakin beautiful voice, and as far as her singing performance goes she is the perfect casting for Broadway-Janis. Her performance is on parr with Barett’s in my opinion. She is the perfect example of someone who almost certainly did her homework: she understands the role, she puts in the attitude, the grunge, the “fuck you” attitude that made Barett’s version so damn good. I freakin love her.
Honestly from what I can tell I do love most of the people in this album (Jaquel Spivey!!) except for Cady and Aaron. Which is kind of a shame.

This🤡 thing turned into an analysis of I Hate It Here based on that one little glitch lolol
You know if I was a crazy I’d think that “no midnight in Paris” glitch only on Apple Music was directed for me to hear. However the glitch is only on the streaming side of Apple Music or I need a new phone or beats headphones idk. But as of right now I haven’t heard it on my album because I tripled checked “I Hate It Here” on my purchased version and it was fine.
Here is a link to a video that shows the glitch.
Here’s the glitchy lyric from I Hate It Here:
“Seems like it was never even fun back then / Nostalgia is a mind's trick / [no midnight in paris] If I'd been there, I'd hate it / It was freezing in the palace”
Why would I think this was a targeted glitch?
I had a thought trail clown theory about Karlie and jack hinting at midnight in Paris before the Midnights album dropped and we got the song Paris in the 3am version and it made my life.
Because every Spotify wrapped over the last few years I post on here and I say I listen to taylor on my Apple Music library more than Spotify. 🤡
Nostalgia and the movie midnight in Paris
So idk. At the very end of my midnights in Paris post I brought up the film Midnight in Paris which is basically a writer who travels back in time to 1920s Paris at midnight and he meets all the great artists of that time. Essentially this romantic is nostalgic for what he believes is the golden age. But by the end of the movie he realize there will always be a past to run away from the present back to so maybe learn to like where you’re at. Here is a quote about nostalgia from the movie:
“Nostalgia is denial. Denial of the painful present. The name for this denial is Golden Age thinking - the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one ones living in - its a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present.”
So the lyric before the glitch is “Nostalgia is a mind’s trick.” Then “No midnight in Paris.” But she’s singing about not wanting to go to another point in time because no time would be better than where we are at currently so the safest place for her is in her mind. But the twist to this concept is that it’s not a nonexistent fantasy. It’s a secret life she keeps in her mind unspoken. (“Now you hang from my lips like the gardens of Babylon.”).
Why do I think this?
Because in the same song she says “I'll save all my romanticism for my inner life and I'll get lost on purpose.” She says inner life instead of inner thoughts. And then she says I’ll get lost on purpose which reminded me of the song How Did It End? Specifically this line “"Guess who we ran into at the shops? Walking in circles like she was lost. Didn't you hear? They called it all off.” She wasn’t lost she just wanted to look lost. She’s putting on a performance or act to keep her inner life sacred. Nostalgia is for the fans to focus on while she protects her secret unspoken present.
It’s just all very much the lakes to me.
“It kinda is the overarching theme of the whole album. Of trying to escape, having something to protect, trying to protect your own sanity.” - Taylor discussing the lakes at lpss
Anywhoooooo i think this is an okay place to stop. This is a rambly tangent that went all over the place. lol But I am okay with that.

I drew this at the end of December/beginning of January and debated posting this, but figured fuck it. This is TF related. Thomas is a Roland Juno 106 Synthesizer and Guy-Manuel is a Roland TR 909 Drum Machine. Both were used extensively in their early works. Styled in a blend of G1 and TFA! Long rant about both DP and TF, feel free to skip!:
2023, for me, was the year of the robot. Early last year I listened to DP's entire discography, and while in the middle of listening to HAA their 10 year remaster of RAM released. Since then, the entirety of this year has been dedicated to house music. They've always had a special place in my heart, as I was familiar with their standout hits (Get Lucky, Harder Better Faster Stronger, Robot Rock, etc.) but I never took the time to delve in deep. I finally had the time while on a trip with some friends. It's surprising how enjoyable it is to listen to Around the World while stuck in a van with others for hours at a time. Now, whenever people think about me, they think of that song. An earworm that entire week for sure. I remember in June when they released Infinity Repeating. A friend sent me the article of it, and I remember bawling my eyes out while listening to it. Several times, in fact. They were my number one listened to artist last year. I had almost 60k minutes listened, and out of that, I spent 7.7k of those on DP alone. Discovery was my number one album, 196 plays. While not my number one song (just missing the mark by one play), I listened to Face to Face 142 times. All of that is on apple music alone.
When I came back from that trip, I was reminded of Transformers. I, as many youngish people at the time, grew up with the Bay films. I also had the TFA game on my DS, and watched G1 a few times thanks to my little brother, but I definitely wouldn't say it was a core piece of my childhood. I binge watched the Bayverse movies, watched TFA, then TFP, then Earthspark, then G1, then intermittently read the comics (still ongoing with that one), tried watching RID 2015 (couldn't get through it, sorry) and then Cyberverse. All in the span of a few months. It's another thing people know me for, now. Not just in real life, but my online presence here is attached to it. In just this half a year interacting online I've met some amazing people. There's definitely other things to say, like how I know more about Transformers than my dad that grew up watching G1, or how I fondly recall painting my best friends nails while watching the 86 movie (his brother hates when men paint their nails, we wanted to prove a point). There's so many things I could say about this year, how incredibly humbling but exciting it was, how much I've grown and learned this year. But I want to say thank you. To both everyone I've met and everyone that's read this far. Here's to another!

Ninjago seasons and specials ranked by how good the music is (with commentary)
Just a comment before we start: This does not include Weekend Whips or any other intros. Just the score that plays under episodes and credits music
21. Skybound
There's just barely any music for this season due to budget cuts or something of the like, and what music that is there I'm just not super enthused about or I forgot about
20. Crystalized
While there's a good amount of music for this season, I didn't find it super special or appealing, and it was just kind of meh like the season itself
19. Legacy of the Green Ninja
I hate to put this here, but something's gotta go here so it might as well be S2. The music was pretty great and there's a LOT of it, plus it's available to the public on an album, but really the only tracks from this season that stick out to me are Day Jobs and The Final Battle
18. Rebooted
Again, don't dislike the music, but something's gotta take these spots and I can't even recall any pieces from this season except for X-1 Joyride and Built to Protect
17. The Island
The score for this season is miles better than the plot and execution, but there's not a lot of it. There was like, one piece I could find on youtube. It was great though! Really fit the island vibe
16. Fire Chapter
It was pretty hard to decide whether The Island or Fire Chapter went here, but eventually I decided on Fire Chapter just because it had more tracks, plus the ongoing and reused Serpentine theme. None of the tracks really stood out to me, but I loved that they reused the Serpentine theme from the first few seasons for Aspheera and her minions
15. Seabound
This one is here for a combination of reasons from The Island and Fire Chapter. It has a lot of music, plus it fits the ocean theme super well. None of the tracks stood out to me except for the one reused one from Wu's Teas when they're all walking out in their diving gear though, so that's why it's this low
14. Hunted
I absolutely love the plot of this season and the hunter's theme, but the only thing that really stood out to me as 'Wow, this is amazing was Dragon Hunt'. It's also super all over because of the whole realms thing, which obviously doesn't make for a very consistent soundtrack. The Resistance Never Quits is a great track, too
13. March of the Oni
Now we start moving into the great seasons. 13th place might seem low, but considering how flipping amazing the other soundtracks are I think this is well-placed. It's diverse, but all fits together and the two moods are nicely separated, unlike whatever was happening in Hunted. I really like the nice, flowy, and clean tracks when we're around the ninja, and the choppy, dissonant music with the whispers and uncommon time signatures for the Oni never fails to give me good chills
12. Hands of Time
I'm gonna be honest with you and say that I was going to put this one a LOT lower, but then I decided to give it a relisten, and DANG. I can't believe I forgot how much of a BANGER this soundtrack is! Especially the ongoing theme. I think I forgot just because the plot of the season is so forgettable, but the music definitely goes hard
11. Rise of the Snakes
I think this is probably the most expected ranking on this list. The soundtrack is great, but it's not amazing. It's really hit-and-miss, honestly. You have bangers like Falcon Chase, Taking the Bait, Weapons Take Flight, and Race to Ouroboros, but the rest of it is kind of bland and forgettable in my opinion
10. The Lego Ninjago Movie
It seems like no one talks about the score for TLNM when we should absolutely be talking about it! It's great! You should really go listen to it. The percussive flute tracks by Greg Pattillo are especially good. Pieces like Sibling Rivalry, The Rise of Kitty Kitty, and Wise Master Wu are also super great!
9. Sons of Garmadon
I honestly can't remember why I put this so high, but I trust more-awake-Fiddler's judgment. It's got a great score, it's just that not a lot of it is super memorable for me. The very beginning of the season (the first bit of Sons of Garmadon Heist) gets stuck in my head all the time though
8. Pilots
Even though there are only 3-4 tracks in both episodes (depending on whether or not you count the Overture), all of them are amazing. Attack of the Skeleton Army, Discovering Spinjitzu / Dragon Ride, and especially Training Course all go hard, and I love that the very first taste of Ninjago we ever got had such great music. Like, be honest. Do you think that Ninjago would've taken off if it had some crap MIDI, mass-produced music in the background? I personally don't think so. We owe a lot to Vincent & Kramer for the Ninjago we know today
7. Day of the Departed
Considering that this special has like, only one track, this is pretty fuckin' high for just one piece of music among whole seasons worth of music. I cry pretty much every time I hear Maybe I'm Departed, and it hits so much harder after Kirby Morrow's passing. Also, little self-promo here, if you haven't listened to my version of Maybe I'm Departed yet, what are you doing?
6. Prime Empire
Prime Empire's music is just fucking sick. It goes so hard and perfectly fits with the cyberpunk/video game vibes of the season. It's so diverse, too, with tracks from Scott's Stowaway Part 2, to Stayin' Aflight, to Fourth Mile Marker, to the Noir Whip. I'd say one of my favorite parts in the entire thing is when a West Side Story reference appears in the soundtrack of Confidential when two or three of the goons are snapping like the Jets lol. My favorite track in Prime Empire would have to be Fourth Mile Marker, just because it's so beautiful, and the melody also reminds me a lot of the theme from Schindler's List, which is just a beautiful theme
5. Dragons Rising
DR is all the way up here despite being so new because the music is already so iconic in my eyes. I haven't even really paid attention to the 'remixes' of old pieces yet, I'm just in love with the original music. It's so unique, and you really can't mistake it for any other season. I especially love the credits from The Merge Part 1, and Tradition of the Ninja
4. Master of the Mountain
I originally had this at #3, but I made a last-minute decision to bump it down one. Not because of anything about it though. It's fuckin' epic. I love the ongoing theme, and in the suite, I absolutely love at the very beginning the few notes played by handbells. Also in the suite, from about 5:49 to the end is the most epic, magical, grandiose thing I've ever heard in my life and you need to go listen to it right this second. Exit tumblr, listen to it, then come back for the top 3. I'll be here when you get back. And one more thing I love about the score is that it's constantly in different and weird times, and cuts out beats when you're least expecting it. Also, I know I said I wouldn't bring Whips into this, but I absolutely love that the beginning is in 6/8. First whip not in 4/4 let's gooooooooo
3. Ice Chapter
Honestly, I was super torn about whether I should put this one at #4 or #3, but in the end, I chose this spot for a number of reasons. The whole thing just gives off winter vibes, I absolutely love the folk aspect of it for the Formlings theme, the Ice Emperor theme is so freaking dark and scary, and there are so many bangers! Namely Akita Finds Her Animal Form and Twice As Stubborn
2. Possession
If you know me, this might come as a surprise seeing as how much I love this season and its music, but it's actually second place for me. It is home to my favorite piece from Ninjago ever, though, which is Ghost Story. I've probably made dozens of posts about the geniusness of Morro's theme and music when he's around and talked about, so I won't go into great detail about that. Just know that the well-known bit features the tritone (often called the devil's interval) played on a fiddle and/or viola (the fiddle was considered the devil's instrument back in ye olden days). Anyway, I highly recommend that you go listen to Ghost Story because it's just a wonderful piece that beautifully tells Morro's story through music
1. Tournament of Elements
I always go back and forth on whether ToE or Possession is my favorite season, but there was no doubt in my mind that ToE is my favorite from a musical standpoint. It's so diverse, yet fits together so nicely. The music features a lot of traditional drums and chanting, really fitting the whole island/fight club/cult theme. The season also has a bunch of bangers, spanning from Gauntlet of Humility, to Thinking About Yourself, Rooftop Ruffhouse, And That's The Kink, I Am the Titanium Ninja, Lloyd's Flashbacks, and who could forget Sneaking Around, the credits music for a bunch of episodes in a lot of other seasons
So, do you agree with my ranking? Feel free to reblog with thoughts or your own rankings!

i did some data stuff. was gonna do a tier list but this is more informative
notes:
adaptations:
the original for reference
the mazm mobile game
the 1968 movie with jack palance
the animated version from 1986
le testament du docteur cordelier
the two tracks from the album gothic whore by chonny jash
the 2021 movie with the brothers. idk that's all i really remember from it
okay. it's "dr jekyll and ms hyde" but his name is jaxon in this. it's a movie from 1995
the 2007 adaptation that was really edgy and 2007
the one from 1920 with barrymore
the wildhorn musical
chonny's charming chaos compendium. i know it's not really an adaptation. it's a more faithful adaptation than TGS. screw you
the glass scientists, a webcomic
the hulk. i'm specifically talking about the 2008 one but ig any by-the-numbers hulk story works here
league of extraordinary gentlemen - a comic series by alan moore and kevin o'neill
faithfulness was out of 30 points. could i have used better points? make your own list. (adapted from previous post)
does jekyll love hyde (fatherly or otherwise)
would hyde negotiate with enfield
does jekyll and or hyde cry, especially over his friends
would this hyde actually believably do a murder
is jekyll NOT the main character
does it look fun to be hyde
is hyde not jack the ripper? is hyde only reasonably dickish. does hyde not beat women just to shock the audience
this is extremely biased, but does it do what it can for the time to touch on the more eccentric themes. by which i mean. incongruous faggots. queer street. house of bondage. etc etc.
is hyde autistic/anxious in crowds/shy (see previous post about hyde)
do people hate hyde's appearance. this seems obvious but sometimes it goes completely without mention
is utterson seen being overly focused on the case. is this utterson's case
is jekyll mid fifties
is jekyll big
is hyde a "young man", noticeably younger than jekyll
is hyde little
does lanyon act like lanyon. is he a straight-laced vivacious doctor, estranged friend of jekyll, good friend of utterson
does utterson act like utterson. is he painfully boring, but lovable nonetheless. is he a diehard friend
is poole here
how does hyde die - suicide?
how does jekyll die - long before hyde does, or at least in such a way that they're clearly two different personalities
friendless hyde?
story of the door
incident at the window
the obnoxious will
does jekyll make the potion to set hyde free, out of care? does jekyll daydream about duality
is the house in soho clean - aka is there a house in soho and are you refraining from moralizing cleanliness
transcendental medicine - jekyll is a mad scientist, right? (because cccc's on the list)
jekyll's interior design hobby. utterson thinks jekyll's house is the finest spot in london, and he's the lawyer for MPs. he's seen finery, and he says jekyll's it
jekyll born into wealth
does hyde have a panic trying to get more of the potion
my likeability scoring was as follows:
would i watch/read it again
does it seem like the creators like the original story
do i like its changes
would i like if it it weren't j&h
did i love it *while* i was actually watching it. each one of these i've come around to liking in some respect, but like, in the moment was i happy as a j&h fan
additional info
if i enjoyed watching it, it probably wasn't being faithful
the most followed point was "hyde does a murder"
the least followed point was "does jekyll have an interest in interior design" and that was the half a point i gave to the 2007 movie because jekyll's seen giving orders to poole to redo the doors on his lab
adaptations on the whole aren't all that faithful. mazm was closest at 24.5/30. the others that made it halfway faithful were palance 1968, animated 1986, prof cordelier, and gothic whore. that's 33%
according to this - cccc is a more faithful adaptation than TGS by half a point. and cccc wasn't really trying to be an adaptation, it just references j&h a few times so i threw it in there
the least faithful adaptation of the ones i looked at was league of extraordinary gentlemen. it also wasn't really trying to be a j&h adaptation, so, /shrug/
according to my grading system, everyone is failing. 65% is the highest score, a tie between gothic whore and 1968 palance
my grading scale is HIGHLY biased towards the dynamics between jekyll and hyde. i mean. half the book is jekyll talking about his dynamics with hyde. and then no one looks at that when they adapt the book. :(
love interest isn't even one of my points. just wanted to state that for the record
#idk if these are hot takes#anyways i think i'm the only one in the fandom who likes the 1968 palance movie#x00k bit shit#tscodj&mh

10/25-26/24
friday - saturday
at the bookstore decade anniversary, i saw the writer andre aciman read.
the writer of call me by your name. i've not seen that movie, or read any of his work, his new book roman year. the excerpts were good but the best bit he read was when he was, at 16, reading from this book of case studies of perverts, 'inverts', spit fetishists, incest lovers, and so on, and his fascination and thought, the world of sex unfolding before him, he could be any one of these, 'as if i read a horoscope and all 12 signs resonated'. that's a loose quotation of him reading it. he also talked about himself, a more interesting man than i would have guessed. i suppose i had a much more positive feeling toward him than i expected, i also didn't expect him to talk about his wife...
a strange thing... or... i don't know... we were on the guestlist, a curated list, this was a special event, a lot of free food, really delicious desserts... this chocolate ganache thing, it must have been italian, my god... i had like... 2-ish. 1.5, if i'm kind to myself i guess. i feel stupid like i overate today. i feel so disgusting honestly and i kinda wanna make myself puke but i won't but tomorrow i'm really gonna try hard to not eat really. tomorrow. i don't know. i feel insane. for lots of reasons. i really feel... ugh. not going to type it out. i'll make myself spiral. i swear i feel so ugly and gross though and stupid and fat ugh i hate how i feel right now. but that's expected... not even from the food. even if it's felt a little much these past couple days... it's really because of a person i talked to today just spreading his lunacy...
anyway, here's a pic of me, i only got to take one, but i was trying to dress in an annoying skinny jeans way, to celebrate the hellp album kinda... not like, really, i just think this looks cute, but... you know... live in the moment even if it's stupid or whatevsss:
i took pics in the bar bathroom and i thought i looked better but the lighting wasn't really good and i think i look so ugly... so now i feel ugly because of that and wonder what i "really" look like if that makes sense.
anyway here's the pics from yesterday:
here's the ai thingies:
and here's an image from today i can't really explain or i guess i can. this person has made multiple people i know including myself feel totally crazy:
i know how weird it is, and evil, to take photos of people without them knowing, pointedly. but it feels warranted for what he is. i guess i'm just another evil person out here, in a world of them, one of the ugly evil things. i should jjust ddieeee.
i talked to one of the owners of the bookstore today, and a guy who helped make it happen, both from new york, as is the other owner of the store (the owners are this super cute gay couple), the owner talked about john zorn, i interjected at a point they were discussing nick cave, and i said i love the birthday party but later nick cave doesn't do so much... i like his used car salesman pathetic freak thing a lot, and that dissolves, the owner talked about him being like a preacher... but i dunno... he really doesn't embody the thing he tries on earlier albums as a solo artist even, the other guy, i'll call him publisher cuz that's a thing he does but it's all experimental stuff and i can't recall the imprint, talked about how he needed blixa to make him really special, which is true i think. i got to talk about rowland s howard a little. we went on, talked about silly music stuff, they showed up later though.,.. eventually we talked a little about dennis cooper, how he once helped a good friend of mine and how touching that is to me. he was like, i saw him getting interviewed back in nyc, he is a nice guy. and i was like, it's shocking to me, that he's out here, reachable i guess, i'm so used to it feeling so far away. he didn't say much to that. the owner asked if i'm a musician, it's strange how he guessed that, or i don't know, is it obvious? maybe my hair. i don't know, i talked about making music where i scream and stuff. they were chuffed it seemed. i didn't tell them who i was, or show them anything... why would i... it'd be so impolite right? the owner told me i should go to new york, i have the vibe. but my gf was like, i told her we can't, and we can't... all the people in new york seem to do anymore is post on twitter. but i also guess the people who don't do that do real things, but like, you know.
the owner talked about seeing naked city with just zorn and mike patton performing, a crazy show it sounded like, zorn going off on sax and patton just screaming and vocalizing. that's such a crazy thing to me to get to see... they're really cool, basically, the people i've met tonight, or these guys, i'm sure i'll never speak to them again.
and i loved seeing my other friends... but the person in the photo, he just drove some of us, or maybe just mostly my other friend and i insane... i can't go into all of it, he's like, okay, he's okay to talk about music w/ it's fun and i like chatting about new stuff i like and getting ribbed about being too into the hellp. but it's just, he was going crazy the whole time, being weird, he kept getting more violent as the night went on, tweaking kinda, and then, started hitting the table and stuff, no one really noticed, just, going crazy crazy, scary to watch and things and he'd make all these faces and try to laugh it all off even though it isn't something you can laugh off. he made my friend feel so bad, they dated briefly, it ended quickly, she still finds him so cute, and he's so pathetic you want to befriend him and help him not be what he is , what he is being miserable and fucked up about everything and just trying to make something happen and failing... detransitioning and becoming a fucking bus driver in colorado, not like i look down on that as much as i feel like it fucks me up how much a vision it is of some you know, ideal, he kept talking about how trying to be an actual blue collar worker is harrowing, and like, no shit poverty is fucking harrowing. but he saw gummo and it's like the first true film he got to experience, idk if there was any stuff that means nothing to him prior or if he liked stuff kids like and ignores that, either way, the owners of the bookstore showed it to him, and they love him, and it's just intense and difficult i dunno.
as the night went on, he kept saying like, let's go there, let's go there, jokingly because he really seemed pained by it and told me something like, it's starting to feel really bad now. and he grimaced like his arm was under a hydraulic press. and i wanted to help him, and i felt so guilty, like it was my fault, i kept saying i'm sorry, i know i joke a lot, but i mean it, sorry you feel bad, i'm not like making fun of you i just like joking around (i asked if he smoked a certain way because of the guy from autechre smoking that way sometimes, and making a silly joke about how autechre sound), i know some people have the impression i mock them, but i'm really not, or something like that. he just stared like i was the one going crazy. he kept saying let's go to oddfellows, he like, then told my friend who did wanna go to hang out with him more, his uber's on his way, barely said bye to her and refused to say bye to me it seemed like, and went off.
she ended up calling my gf crying, miserable because of him. she feels so awful. he's so stupid, such a bad person basically. and i know it... he like dated one of my friend's besties, too. she's in la!!! he just gets around, all over, torturing women.
so, yeah, that's like... it.
youtube
listening to this a lot, feeling crazy. this album is great... the hellp, i am certain have hurt women though. i feel fucked up about everything. i dunno. i'm just stupid. i'm stupid and ugly and unhappy i feel bad for all these dipshits in the world. why do i know multiple people who go to the midwest because of fucked up fantasies of being "real"????? it's torturous. the fantasy of blue collar reality, poverty romanticism, being 'base' in some way i guess. and it always fucking has something to do with harmony korine who is definitely a hack now even if i do love that film, gummo... fuck this stupid planet. why are there beautiful and kind people and this wide a range, it's torturous to me. it's just one silly night, not even bad. i ate like a stupid fat pig for free and i even had a shirley temple... wow whoa... whatever...
i wanna throw myself away, i feel like if i were meaner, fewer people would be miserable and stuff. maybe. i don't know. maybe i was really mean and i should have been nicer or something. i'm just crazy. i hate that people can destroy other's self esteem so easily, and that they either don't realize how fragile that is, or they do it intentionally. why would he hurt her so much by being a prick like that, not even saying bye gracefully? not even making an excuse about losing her number, or... deleting it at all. i hope they don't ever see eachother again.
guhhh, i don't know. there's so much wrong with the way people turn to reaction, i hate that i witness it so much. or reveal their reactionary tendencies. it's just terrifying.
there's nothing i can do i just hafta sleep to feel normal in the morning. and then i go nowhere tomorrow. i can cook, i can draw my silly fan art, or other stuff. i wrote a little tonight cuz of this too at least. that's nice.
so,
byebye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi cc, what is the idea of you and what are people hating on it?
Hi anon. I will put my answer below because is too long and I'm unable to explain it short.
The idea of you is a book that now is having a screen adaptation on prime, here is the trailer. Acording to the author Robinne Lee she was inspired by a guy in a boyband, here is her quote:
A few years ago, my husband was away on business and I was up late surfing music videos on YouTube when I came across the face of a boy I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise. It was like…art. I spent a good hour or so Googling and trying to figure out who this kid was and in doing so I discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted. When my husband returned a couple of days later, I joked with him that I’d found the perfect guy and I was leaving him and our two kids, “oh, and by the way, he’s half my age.”
So basically initially she was inspired by Harry Styles, here are some tweets of her talking about the character. Then in other interview mentions that is a combination of different guys:
I made him into my dream guy,” she told me, “like Prince Harry, meets Harry [Styles],” plus a couple of ex-boyfriends, a little of her husband, and a dash of Eddie Redmayne.
I think the movie is being controversial because first is inspired by Harry dating older women since he was younger, according to the author the character is 20, but the womaniser image that Harry had and that likes and dates older women and this image started when he was 17, a minor.
This idea of Harry liking older women, just reduce him as an artist just to that image that has been know for the general public is just frustrating. And also in the articles and social media talking about the movie they had been making the comparison between photos of Nicholas and Harry.
Nicholas said this quote about if the character is inspired by Harry Styles:
“We tried to create a character that felt, you know, a kin to Harry in a sense that he’s a younger man dating older women. It was important to create someone who felt new and original and not a shoddy impersonation of this person.”
Anything that mentions Harry Styles will always bring attention and clicks so the promo of the movie know what they are doing, and this is nothing against Nicholas, the book is just inspired by Harry and the movie is promoted with that idea.
Now the second problem is that the songwriter and producer of the album of the movie of this fictional boyband is Savan Kotecha. If you are not aware he is a producer and songwriter and was involved with One Direction since The X Factor and work for the first two albums of the band. Savan is a person not liked in the fandom, because he basically never wanted the boys to be part of the songwriting, he saw the band as this machine, never saw the boys as artists and said awful things about Louis. He is one of the persons responsable that Louis didn't get that much solos, read this transcript for more info.
Savan also in that interview explains that couldn't see the boys as this grown young adults that wanted to write songs, because he knew them since they started and didn't think they would have the ability to do so (he was wrong as we know). So Savan left after the second album, now his association with this movie that is related to Harry and 1D is his way of trying to stay relevant again in the fandom.
This is my perspective, but anyone can have a different POV of what the movie is hated and probably they would explain better than me. Sorry for the long response as you can't see I can't write short answers.
#ask#anon#the idea of you#harry's image#savan kotecha#i think my explanation sucks but i can't think a better way to say it sorry anon

i used to be a hardcore hrry fan, but overtime i just felt so disconnected from him because he doesn’t show his human, real side and instead it’s basically a brand. i won’t lie, i can’t hate him or dislike him, i was too attached and that’s hard to let go, but i stopped following him and listening to his music. louis has always been my favorite though. i love that he’s as authentic as he can be in the industry and shares this special bond with fans. that’s something hrry can’t have and it’s truly sad. he got plenty of success, but in return he became a product to sell to audiences, with “fans” who don’t truly care about him and many just wanting the clout of being at a hrry stles™ show, meanwhile louis has fans who care about him and his music. who feel that connection. who make fan projects for him and other fans, and in return he shows his appreciation for us and includes us in his success. personally, i wouldn’t trade that for anything in the world. hrry’s fanbase is not long lasting, louis’ is, so, who really won at the end?
It depends on what you see as winning and therefore who you ask. Louis will never be as commercially successfull as Hrry, he will never have those streaming numbers, he will never have lead roles served to him on a silver plate even when he has zero acting talent. So if that was the prize, he lost. But I don't think that's what Louis thinks. I don't think that's what any rational person thinks. Fans tend to draw comparisons between the two but it's not fair, or even rational. You can't compare an indie movie with a Marvel one, simply bc the investment was not the same, the amount of money and power put into the two projects is incomparable and therefore the projects themselves are. It's the same here. I don't follow Hrry and idk what's happening with him/ his career unless i see a post in my tl and even if i did, i can't claim if he's happy or not, dead inside (like he looks) or not but it is clear atp that everything publicly available about him is a calculated move. I don't care about him, i never did so i can't relate to you anon. Ofc, the moment i became a Louis fan i was bombarded with 1D and Hrry content but i never cared about him. I heard his first album once and never again (same with his second one). I remmember not liking his music, it's very repetitive, not really catchy and he writes very amateur and generic lyrics. I didn't like him as well, i think a lot of what his fans "see" in him is an illusion, a false perception. They think he's interesting and deep so they find his slow speech and goofiness charming but the moment he opens his mouth when asked a question that he didn't prepare for, you see that there's nothing really there. Anyway, enough about him. What I care about is Louis. He looks so good, i don't think i've ever seen him happier than this last year. He's making the music he wants and doesn't have to answer to any external pressure anymore. And what magical songs he's making 🥹❤️🩹. Faith in the future is a perfect perfect album and is a far cry from anything he wrote with one direction no offence. He had an arena tour and played to thousands of fans night after night, even did a few stadium shows in Latam and had a live stream from one of the shows. He released AOTV as well. I agree that his music is so good, so well written it inspires the listener. Of course i wish he had a better team to prompte him and his music but there is something beautiful about how no matter how many streams a song of his get, you know it's organic. You know it's bc all the people (or at the very least most of them) who listened to this song loved it. Might be silly but i get emotional when i listen to always you, a non single from walls has 22M views on YouTube with zero promo, all from people who loved the song bc it's pop perfection duh. Fingers crossed for LT3, I know it will be another perfect album from Louis and i can't wait to hear it
