I don't get why people hate the timeline so much, its not like you can't pretty much completely ignore it when you play the games. The only time it even approaches mattering to the story is when there is an explicit sequel like botw and totk or zelda and zelda 2

Hey sorry your ask got lost in the sauce of my broken tumblr, but: yeah!

I mean, I get why in some sense. It's been a heated point of debate and I think some people understandably resent the space it has taken not only in fandom discourse, but in how people began to understand the game and its narrative aesthetic choices. There is such a thing as over-rationalizing everything to hard logic, and sometimes it's just not the fandom for that --especially when you begin to forget it's all just fan theory and start to forget what the games are supposed to be like and evoke beyond just strict facts displayed in a linear way.

What I think bugs me with TotK in particular is that it both evokes and relies on continuity and the idea of a timeline, of archeology, of history itself, while being so loose and vacant with it that it both is doing Timeline Shit while also completely failing to understand why some parts of the fandom were invested in Timeline Shit to begin with.

But that's just my two cents of course!

All the gatekeeping of tour diaries and now the crumbs of concert footage in that "documentary" yesterday. he was working for months on that? that's why we didn't get tour diaries? all that footage just goes in his vault now? Please.

Hello! I'm sorry to hear you felt disappointed by yesterday's special. However, I feel compelled to comment on a few objective points in your ask.

- "Live & Backstage in Amsterdam" was directed by James Tonkin, the same director (and production team, Hangman) they worked with on "The Feeling of Falling Upwards" (and the unreleased "Live in Brixton" special). Ryan was credited as director of the documentary footage and as a contributing editor (1 of 3) but the live footage and overall final program was not his work.

- Regardless of the particular creatives involved here (or in any given project for that matter), the fact remains that any directors, producers, photographers, etc are all hired hands operating with full input and specific direction from the band. The band chose to make this a hybrid concert film/documentary. The band chose to condense the setlist the way they did. The band chose this format over the traditional tour diaries. What happens to the unused footage will be determined by the band. Ryan is a friend but he is first and foremost an employee and the band owns that footage. (Likewise, the MYT diaries are not sitting on Andy Deluca's hard drive because he's "gatekeeping" or too lazy to edit it. If the band wanted them released, they'd be released.) All this to say, of course you don't have to agree with the decisions but it's important to clarify who your complaint is with.

- This concept of the band or their collaborators "gatekeeping" and fans not getting what we "deserve" is, to be blunt, entitled and immature. Being a fan does not make an artist indebted to you. They make music, if you feel so inclined, you listen. That's it. That's the extent of the contract. Anything beyond that is optional for both parties. Any content an artist chooses to release is not out of obligation or generosity, it's part business strategy, part artistic vision. Artists do not owe you anything. This band does not owe you anything.

I really, really want a mystery romance jaydick where they are trapped in a train with a murder crime to solve.

Detective Dick Grayson took a train heading back to Gotham City to meet with his family after long years of traveling. There he gets to bump into Talia Al Gul a known military official and also the estranged mother of his youngest brother. Accompanying her is a man, so handsome and charming he makes Dick a little weak in the knees, who apparently is another newly rising big shot in the military known for his unmatched competence that's getting him praise from Lady Al Gul herself, and that's something so rarely happens. He is apprehensive of Dick and so is Dick of him after learning he has some sort of a relation to Talia. Such a waste of a fine man in Dick's opinion.

It's a long ride to Gotham. The train ia nothing but a beautiful creation, inside out. Ticket was reserved for him specially by Bruce himself, to welcome his coming back home. The tastful interiors of it, designed to provide it's riders with utmost means of relaxation and luxury. From the outside it's a beast of strength and endurance. With the most enchanting glossy black metal. Standing strong and beautiful against the long taxing trips it has to trade.

The ride starts a peaceful one, until one of the passengers is announced dead after one of the staff finds them foaming at the mouth inside one of the trains trailers. Both of detective Grayson and officer Todd take it upon themselves to maintain calmness over the remaining passengers and to investigate the crime to eventually find the culprit. Their initial refusal to eachother lead to a sort of rivalry between them. They can't stand each other! Until eventually they are taken aback by the other's charisma and slowly warm up to each other.

And you know, spending more time listening to your very attractive rival and discovering they had an old time respect for you from their younger years can make you relent a bit, just a tiny bit though. Because he is still an asshole!! But then being trapped inside very confined places with your chest pressed to theirs, looking into the deep ocean of their eyes. So deep it threaten to suck you in deep inside them, just like they did before back then..... But no because he is sanctimonious bastard. Oh but their lips are begging for some attention... what shall you and you heart do now?
