If you need proof that you can make anything — yes, even early 2010s Nicki Minaj verses — supremely unsettling and deeply scary if you write it the right way, look no further than The Militia House by John Milas.

“CLASS OF SISSY BOYS WOULD BE PRODUCED,” Weekly British Whig (Kingston). May 10, 1922. Page 17. ---- If We Wipe Out Militia Training, Says Gen. A. E. Ross, Kingston. ---- Ottawa, May 11 - In discussing the militia estimates in the Commons, Brig.-General A. E. Ross, (Cons., Kingston) said it was rather interesting to see that estimates which were whittled down to the lowest figure could be still further reduced. He asked who the people- were who objected to militia training. There were those who had an aversion to what they called "brass hats." Then there were the uplifters. who said we should treat all men as brothers, forgetting that brothers. sometimes quarelled. Others took the ground that there were signs of lasting peace, and cited the disarmament conference in support of this contention.
General Ross emphasized the value of training. As a Canadian example of the value of training, he said that a week's winter training in Canada, with its experience of operations under low temperatures, had provided a method by which it had been possible to wipe out the malady known as trench feet.
"If we wipe out militia training and cadet training and all kinds of training," remarked. General Ross, in conclusion, "we shall produce a class of sissy boys, fanatics in dancing, and not the good old class of boys who made the British Empire what it is."

Militias Take over Houses and Evict Residents, in Rio
Criminal groups have been using the real estate sector to profit and launder money
Tumblr media
The Rio de Janeiro militias' search for new sources of income and increased power has led them to target control of the real estate sector in the dominated regions. The criminals use violence and threats to evict residents from their homes and take possession of their land.
In general, the militia members build new constructions, which are then sold or rented out, generating money for the gang. Police investigations indicate that this practice is commonplace.

Sometimes I forget that not everyone knows how bonkers Idaho politics are. It's still very much the Wild West out here, except even the Wild West had safer gun laws.

^^^ Isn't that Rep. Gym Jordan (R-OH-04) in the blue shirt?
There are still some people alive who can remember when the GOP was the party of law and order. Nowadays Trump Republicans pal around with terrorists, criminals, and foreign agents from totalitarian countries.

The principal purport of his letter was to inform them that Mr. Wickham had resolved on quitting the militia.
It was greatly my wish that he should do so as soon as his marriage was fixed on. And I think you will agree with me, in the removal from that corps as highly advisable, both on his account and my niece's. It is Mr. Wickham's intention to go into the regulars; and among his former friends, there are some some who are able and willing to assist him in the army. He had the promise of an ensigncy in General —'s regiment, now quartered in the North. It is an advantage to have it so far from this part of the kingdom. He promises fairly; and I hope among different people, whether they may each have a character to preserve, they will both be more prudent. I have written to Colonel Forster, to inform him of our present arrangements, and to request that he will satisfy the various creditors of Mr. Wickham in and near Brighton, with assurances of speedy payment, for which I have pledged myself. And will you give yourself the trouble of carrying similar assurances to his creditors in Meryton, of whom I shall subjoin a list according to his information? He has given in all his debts; I hope at least he has not deceived us. Haggerston has our directions, and all will be completed in a week. They will then join his regiment, unless they are first invited to Longbourn; and I understand from Mrs. Gardiner, that my niece is very desirous of seeing you all before she leaves the South. She is well, and begs to be dutifully remembered to you and your mother.
Yours, &c.
E. Gardiner.

It's worth noting that while unions function by the power of the working class, shit will get worse if this happens. We'll go from negotiation and retaliation by firing to. Well, the early efforts are known as the coal wars for a good goddamn reason.
It'll also, frankly be even worse than then thanks to advancement in weapons and military technology and the militarization of police forces.
Remember the power, but never forget the blood that was spilled to get us to where we are, or that if shit goes south enough it could be your blood spilling this time around
Tumblr media
Real shame that the only reason unions and worker protections subsist is due to the good graces of the federal government (who's never tried to get rid of them before) and not something intrinsic to the positionality of workers in the capitalist system as a whole

I have said before that the reason my great grandfather fled his village was that he was afraid for the women in his family more than anything — by word of mouth, they heard that zionist militias were raping women and he wanted to protect his wife and daughters. He took the key to his house with him and left the goats and livestock in his farm, thinking he'll be back in a few days. He never returned and the village is still empty.

RoboCop 3 (1993) represents a significant thematic departure from the first two installments. What started as a dystopian critique of privatization evolves into really bizarre “Time to show them how REAL cops kick ass!” copaganda. As if one cop, let alone an entire precinct, would refuse to enforce evictions and quit in solidarity with the poor! The melodrama is strong with this one. They still caricaturize the criminal element as well-armed manic gutter punks. Office Space’s Milton (Steven Root) helps run a housing advocacy militia (which absolutely should be a real thing). Crossing Jordan’s Dr. Cavanaugh (Jill Hennessy) is RoboCop’s tech support. CCH Pounder makes one of her rare appearances as a character who isn't an executive or administrative type. The little girl hacking the police robot was great.

Senior White House figures privately told Israel that the U.S. would support its decision to ramp up military pressure against Hezbollah — even as the Biden administration publicly urged the Israeli government in recent weeks to curtail its strikes, according to American and Israeli officials. Presidential adviser Amos Hochstein and Brett McGurk, the White House coordinator for the Middle East, told top Israeli officials in recent weeks that the U.S. agreed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s broad strategy to shift Israel’s military focus to the north against Hezbollah in order to convince the group to engage in diplomatic talks to end the conflict, the officials told POLITICO. Not everyone in the administration was on board with Israel’s shift, despite support inside the White House, the officials said. The decision to focus on Hezbollah sparked division within the U.S. government, drawing opposition from people inside the Pentagon, State Department and intelligence community who believed Israel’s move against the Iran-backed militia could drag American forces into yet another Middle East conflict.
