Some personal headcanons (Part 1?):

Whenever Cale gets a cold, he immediately starts bleeding like a faucet since the Vitality of the Heart is working to get rid of disease. Meanwhile, everyone thinks that this dude is so weak he sneezes and starts bleeding.

Lord Sherrit is literally a mythical/fairytale bedtime story for dragons in their world. A cool af dragon lord the likes of which has never been seen for 10,000 years? Baby Eruhaben definitely went around pretending to be the next Dragon Lord/daydreaming of meeting Lord Sherrit.

Choi Jung Soo is 100% the reason why Kim Rok Soo began working out and knows how to use different weapons. The two rookies would be seen in early mornings with Choi Jung Soo snapping at Kim Rok Soo like a drill sergeant.

On and Hong remain in their cat forms the majority of the time because they're light enough to be carried by their family members especially Cale. They like being close to their adults, after being rejected and neglected for so long.

Choi Jung Gun helped write some of the storybooks Lord Sherrit put in the Castle of Light for her children. Some of them were stories from the fantasy world, but majority of them were fairytales like Little Red Riding Hood and The Tale of Shim Chŏng.

After the Alberu PJs fiasco, his family keeps giving him fancy pajamas with increasingly absurd enchantments on them in case he has to head to battle again. Think baby pink pajamas with little cats on them charmed to protect against a literal Dragon's Rage.

After his mother's passing, Beacrox learns how to cook as a healthy coping mechanism for his anger and resentment. He is hesitant to tell Ron when he develops a genuine love for cooking, but Ron is supportive because he wants his son to not be tied down by revenge like he is.

As thanks for Choi Han's sacrifice during the Sealed God Test ("I can't even feed you properly here."), Cale quietly makes green onion pancakes for Choi Han. The swordsman tears up on his first bite because of the familiar taste but refuses to cry.

The first time Raon sleeps in Cale's bed is after a nightmare. It's before he gets his name and he is still guarded around humans. Cale notices him whimper, carries him in his arms and soothes the baby dragon each time. They never address it in the morning. After one point, Raon never leaves.

Choi Han has a diary he writes in so that he can never forget his beloved family members again, no matter how much time passes. He puts in every doodle or drawing the children make for him.

After meeting Raon, Eruhaben secretly begins preparing his lair for the baby dragon after his death as a gift. However, all his preparations get destroyed by the White Star.

The first thing Raon learned how to write was Cale's name, back when he was learning from Rosalyn.

The reason Cale's hair is so long is because he is too lazy (read: busy) to cut it. He has so many split ends that it gives Eruhaben a heart attack. Cale has a bigger heart attack when he finds out Ron is going to be the one give him a hair cut.

Alberu always, always carries a white handkerchief with cookies wrapped inside with him wherever he goes. His study and his bedroom are always stocked too: both for the children and for his dongsaeng who never eats enough.

Hong has a habit of rolling around in bed seeking warmth. At one point, he rolls on top of Cale's face, choking the man awake with a mouthful of fur.

Lee Soo Hyuk and Choi Jung Soo would talk about farming so often that at one point, Kim Rok Soo secretly went out and gathered a lot of farming/gardening books. He would record them all secretly.

Cale takes special care of recording each and every moment with his family. Raon's giggling when he wipes off the steak sauce on his face, On's quiet purring cuddled in his arms, the sunlight on Eruhaben's hair as he sits and reads etc.

The God of Death definitely giggled at being the first person to read Choi Jung Gun pen name Nelan Barrow's debut novel, The Birth of A Hero. He rated it five stars ofc, Choi Jung Gun held a broom to his head.

Kim Rok Soo does not know many things about life. Despite all those experiences, even with the combination of his ability “record“ and read many books he is not all-knowing. But that’s normal, expected. If there’s one thing the man had learned it’s accepting just how unpredictable life can be.

That's why, whatever life throws at him, he accepts and adapts with ease. It’s not easy, both mentally and physically. But what else can a hopeless man like Kim Rok Soo do? If he cannot adapt, then he dies.

This was why even when the most precious people around him died he moved forward. Represses his emotions so that the people under his care do not experience the same thing. Put others above his wellbeing for he is empathetic and compassionate like that despite the whirlwind of bullshit life has put him through.

But sometimes his efforts aren’t enough.

Kim Rok Soo poured more than blood, sweat, and tears just so you have the same as Choi Jung Soo and Lee Soo Hyuk. As a young child under his care — used to be under their care — Kim Rok Soo doesn’t want to lose you or abandon you. Hence why he tried his damnest just so his team would have a 0% mortality rate.

Not everything goes according to plan though. Kim Rok Soo can have several contingencies, and make plans a to z, but that would never stand a chance when the gears of fate turn against him.

And turn against him they did.

For not long after his brothers you also died.

Your death devastated him. You were so young, so little. He was supposed to protect you, shield you from the cruel and harsh outside world. 

But he failed to do just that.

And so his baby died.

Alone

Scared

Helpless

Just like how he is feeling now, Kim Rok Soo cannot take it upon himself to dwell on his feelings.

Once again the only thing the man named Kim Rok Soo could do was adapt and move on.

Ignore the pain.

Ignore the longing.

Ignore that empty feeling.

Other people are counting on him, he cannot let his flimsy mental state ruin their lives too.

He already ruined theirs, he cannot ruin anymore.

This kind of mentality continued as Cale Henituse. From picking up weapons to picking up bottles of booze. From warding off monsters to avoiding annoying nobles. Cale Henituse adapted seamlessly to this new life he was thrown into without any notice or manuals.

However, there is one thing that bothers him as he goes on his quest to get his slacker life.

When he first woke up in this world there was a small note in his pant pocket and all it said was:

[The heir shall await for the day you relieve it from its fate.]

This kind of thing was never mentioned in the novel. In the first place, Cale Henituse never had a major overarching role. He was just there as a small obstacle course for the main hero, Choi Han.

So what exactly did that note mean?

Why was it in his pocket?

Why did it feel divine?

Is that note for him or the original Cale?

Questions he had no way of answering kept piling up each time he took out the small, yet sturdy piece of paper. Hence why he decided that he has more pressing matters to deal with, like preparing for his slacker life, and that note can wait later. 

True enough the answer unveiled itself when the time was right. And that time was when White Star was finally defeated. 

Cale Henituse should be resting. He wasn’t gravely injured or anything but everyone kept giving him scary glares when he tried to move around too much. Cale knows his weak, but seriously? Just how much of a weakling do the kids imagine him to be?

Usually, he would be more than happy to do nothing. Relish in the short lavish lifestyle of doing nothing but eating, reading, sleeping, and repeating it all over again. But this isn’t his usual situation. Despite the White Star and the Seal God being defeated another annoying thing has popped up.

[The heir awaits at the temple.]

Another note slipped in his pocket. At first, he tried to ignore it, his too tired and weary, surely it could wait for another day?

[You must go now before it becomes a bigger threat.]

Another hour, another note. Cale continues to pretend that it didn’t exist.

[Defeat her while he is not ready yet.]

Okay, that’s it Cale has had enough. His pocket and mind feel too heavy to the point he cannot sleep without those notes haunting him.

Which brings him to his current predicament. Sneaking out at night to go back to that blasted temple to kill whatever heir White Star — or so he assumes — left behind. Throughout Cale’s walk notes kept popping, guiding him where he needed to go.

Finally, after 5 minutes of walking Cale Henituse comes across a closed door where that heir is supposed to be. As he opens the door he readies himself for any possible attack that might come. However, none came. Instead, a lone crib draped by a canopy sits in the middle of the room.

“You’ve gotta be kidding me…”

Cale spoke for the first time that night as he approached the crib.

“You have got to be fucking kidding me..!”

He cursed as he looked at the baby inside the crib.

At just one glance he instinctively knew who that baby was… Cale– no, Kim Rok Soo instinctively knew that this baby was you, or at least a reincarnation of you.

This is not White Star’s baby.

This is his baby.

He cannot kill the baby he already failed to protect once.

“I’m not gonna do it. I’m going to take this baby under my roof.”

Cale spoke with finality, if he were speaking to his people they would know that this decision was absolute. That no amount of convincing can change his mind.

Unfortunately, this unknown god doesn’t seem to be aware of that fact.

[That child is the White Star’s heir. If you don’t end him now he’ll come back to avenge his father.]

“His father that is incapable of loving? His father that he won’t even remember because his a literal baby right now?”

[It does not matter, end this baby now or this baby will end everything you have worked for in the future.]

Cale crumpled that last note, but another one appeared almost immediately. 

[You already have blood smeared on your hands. You cannot avoid smearing more, you can only choose whose.]

“Bullshit.”

The commander spoke as he scooped the baby— his baby, not White Star’s— from his crib. His voice sounded strong and nonchalant, but the tremor in his hands betrayed the facade he was putting on.

Deep inside, despair and agony wash over his entire being. Crashing against his heart like tidal waves that cannot be controlled. Visions of his people dying reel over his head like a broken record desperately begging to be destroyed. 

“I’ll raise him as my own— no he is my own. He doesn’t need to know who the White Star is.”

And yet he is resolute.

[The other gods will make it known how much of a sinner his father is.]

“Try that and see what will happen.”

Cale Henituse is ready to take that risk. More than that he is ready to go against literal gods just to not lose you once again. He cannot take going through that whole ordeal a second time, he doesn’t think he can handle it.

And so he leaves the temple as silently as he entered it. Leaving no trace except for the crumpled notes that littered your crib.

Silence lingered in his temporary room as Cale closed the window after entering through it. Everyone else was asleep— well the assassins probably know he snuck out but trust him enough to not follow him— and the kids decided to leave him alone and sleep in another room as he is still “recovering” according to them.

With only you and the moon accompanying him, the commander silently arranged his bed to be baby-friendly so that you could rest. There are so many logistics and care that go into taking in a baby, but he can think of all of that later. For now, he’ll relish in the fact that he has reunited with his estranged. A supposed miracle sent by the gods, if it wasn’t for the fact that those very beings want you dead.

As Cale settles the both of you on the bed you use your tiny hand to grab onto one of his fingers. It was as if you were aware of your past life and knew just how much he cared for you. His heart swells with pride and love, his feelings are so strong that he cannot help himself but let out a small smile as you squeeze his finger before falling back asleep.

Just like that the two of you fell asleep, unaware of the inevitable chaos your presence is bound to cause in the morning.

“This old man let you sneak out last night because he trusted that you know what you’re doing. But it seems like I overestimated my puppy young master.”

It looks like this is going to be a long morning…

Reactions to The Light's Chapter 431

Brief summary: CJG talks more with Cale. Cale begins the search for CJS and Sui.

We learned more about what a transcendent was.

A transcendent is a being who is literally beyond everything. Not a god, but a godlike being, unbound by the constraints of any name.

The kind of god you are is quite important. For example, a god of death is very powerful in death, but is somewhat limited in other areas, because there are gods in other areas, so there are many limitations.

But the transcendent is not bound by constraints, so it can be thought of as more free than god, perhaps even untouchable. Of course, since the transcendent is more free than god, it is very difficult to reach that point, and few people know it.

It was the Third Emperor of the Five-Colored Bloods who fought CJG, and CJG described that hunter as very strong and on the level of a god. Their fight got interrupted when the GoC saint and people from the Transparent Bloods came. GoC saint fought CJG then before he got rescued by Aurora.

CJG's various reactions were funny. 😂 Like when he was trying to reveal info and Cale would say he already knew, so CJG said"huh?" multiple times. 😂😂😂 Or how Cale continuously hurried him to talk even though CJG was grumbling that he had just woken up. 😂😂😂

Choi Jung Gun looked at Cale. Then he said, “You're smart.” He gave him a thumbs up. Cale's face crumpled into a murderous grimace. A moment when Choi Jung Soo looked silly in a serious situation. Cale couldn't help but react to Choi Jung Gun's behavior that reminded him of that moment. “Don't be silly, say it quickly.” “Uh, yeah!” And Choi Jung Gun was a good listener. Unlike Choi Jung Soo, he was not mischievous and followed Cale's instructions as obediently as Choi Han.

So CJG was like a mix of CJS and CH? 😂😂😂

Cale: *gets annoyed at the info he learned about the hunters* Cale: (Can't they just leave me alone? I want to flip everything over!) SEW: Let's flip it over? DA: Haha! Let's rule over the gods! Cale: *forgets his annoyance* Cale: ... Cale: (These ancient powers. They're crazy. Let's not be swayed by them.)

Cale's annoyance disappearing because of the crazy APs. 🤣🤣🤣

Regarding the child, Cale replied that he did not know if the child was evil because he had not met them. The child had seven worlds inside them, represented by the seven emotions. A person could become a god's vessel with just one world inside them, but that child had seven, something that a human couldn't do.

So that child lost their own emotions to survive and acted on instinct. In particular, their appetite became strong. CJG said that the child could not become a god if they acted on instinct and not emotion, but at the same time, it would make the child the perfect god too. Or more like the perfect puppet for the hunters.

Regardless, Cale's conversation with CJG felt like 🚩flags for Cale. That he would adopt that child, and that he would become the first transcendent instead of the first wanderer. 😂

CH's talk with CJG was not expressed in detail. Perhaps a flashback would handle that. Cale divided the group into two: CH and HD would find CJS, and Cale, the kids, and Clopeh would find Sui. Clopeh's constant happy laughing made Cale hesitate if he should just go alone though. 🤣🤣🤣

Ending Remarks I'm glad that the talk with CJG was not interrupted. Sure, it was rushed because they had to find the Soos, but at least it was not delayed for the nth time like the talk with the Molans. 😂 Next chapter would be the search for Sui. I'm looking forward to what Clopeh would do soon. 🤣

We all know that TCF is still a novel full of secrets and mysteries, and many of us talk about them and wonder about them, but I see some mysteries that no one talks about, and I'm very curious about them. For example, we have Grandma Kim. Why does she hide her name and why was she so interested in Rok Soo? I know she's kind, and Rok soo loved her and was kind to her, but it's clear their relationship wasn't just one of sympathy; it was more like a real grandmother and grandchild. Second, KRS and the speeches. Why was he the only one who didn't give any speeches or lectures? I don't see it as linked to a curse, but I thought he might be under the watchful eye of a hunter or a god, who is careful not to reveal him to the world. Third, his meeting with God. When he met Him, I remember that he secretly wrote down many things he wanted to ask Him, but God asked him to erase them because they were under surveillance. Since Cale knew about the Soo couple, what questions did he want to ask? Fourth, the fake Hilsman. That man came to meet Deruth amidst the chaos. He said he wanted to tell him something and get something from him. What was it? I'm betting it had to do with Jour or the Hunters. After Cale was robbed, he was told that the fake Hilsman had left him a message. What was it? Did the writer forget it or intentionally ignore it? Finally, the entire Henituse family. I have my suspicions about Deruth, and I think he may have already known about the powers of his wife, her family, and the Hunters, just as Zed did. I think he knew about his son's soul transfer. My wonderfull brain made up and au where Cale is in his og body and a butler to Alberu

I've name it Butler of the Royal family and have already written the first two chapters but it takes me ages to write so I will just share my ideas for now . Haven't poster the chapters to ao3 yet

This is inspired by that one part of the God of Despair tests . Where Cale is in the body of some random guy and acts as a butler for small Alberu who is in a bad position as a teen. You know - the one where he turns the palace on its head so he can give Alberu a decent meal and wreaks havoc as usual. Calls him "Your Royal highness" , changes the furniture to better ones in the palace and then almost gets killed by the king . I love it a lot it's super cute and makes me soooft

This but it's the reality

So basically Kim Rock Soo is punted into the Forest of death Choi family style and is a transmigrator not a reincarnator (idk if that's what they're called) so he's not in Cales body and the deal with GoD hasn't happened

The thing is - he's away too early than the setting of The birth of a Hero . Alberu and Cale are only teens and Harris village is still standing

Here's where I take many liberations with the accurate ages and such - mainly I ignore them and just change them so they can fit my silly scenarios

When Rock Soo realises he's earlier than the events in The Birth of a Hero he decides to go make a deal with that glib crown prince . He's trying to scam him to get money for slacker life or smth . But then he sees the sorry state that is Alberus palace and how they mistreat him. And basically hires himself as the head butler to fix things because of course he would. The rationalisation in his mind is that he needs the crown prince in power to ensure that Roan will be ready for the future wars and he can live his slacker life without worrying about that

In the end he takes the reins as commander in the war and is a hero like in canon as is expected of our clown mc

That's about it

I'm mostly thinking about how different Alberu will grow up with Rock Soo as his butler . He has someone he can actually depend on now!!

Kim Rock Soo relationship with everyone will be different which is the fun part for me

He's a dad of one crown prince (even if he won't admit it) and baby Raon .

Raon!! He's still an egg in this but don't worry Rock Soo won't ever forget his dragon son so he goes to steal- I mean rescue Raon and a few other valuable things he finds in that cave. So Raon hatches from his egg into Rock Soos warm hands and is coddled and loved as he should be. Only the best thing for the dragon baby

And!! Rock Soo is about the same age as Ron in this cuz I said so - around 36 I think. And so! They're best friends. Of course Rock Soo is terrified but still

Ron finds him funny and decides to keep him around just cuz

Haven't thought everything out but yeah

I will share the many memes I've made for this and hopefully they flesh out my concept more and how the interactions change between the characters and sometimes doesn't really

The crowns prince head butlers salary is sure to get him enough funds for a long cushy retirement. And if he gotta give the lil prince power to give him that salary himself well you gotta do what you gotta do for slacker life / this is how Rock Soo convinced himself to come out of his retirement and become a butler)
