Din’s ears are ringing, each step a loud drum beating in his head as they make their way through the tunnels. Most of his weight is carried by Cara, but his feet continue to falter and his thoughts are on distant memories and Karga has to grip the arm not thrown around the shocktrooper’s shoulders to keep him upright. Din tries to lead them, direct them through the tunnels but they’re as much a maze to him as they ever were – he’d always entered through the bazaar, and he never bothered to learn an alternate route. You had always teased him for that-
‘Best in the parsec, huh?’ Din could see your smile but it was blurred, the searing pain in his head only just beginning to numb. He tried to focus on you - on the memory of you - as his feet continued to drag; but his mind was betraying him. He knew you’d teased him further, scolded him for not knowing his way around the covert in case of emergency. But the memory faded as quickly as it came, your laugh barely an echo in the empty tunnels.
They took another turn and still, no Mandalorians. Still, no trace of you.
Since taking the child, every quiet moment was spent thinking of you – wondering if you’d made it off Navarro alive. Hoping. He had last seen you with the armorer; you’d stood by his side as she crafted him new armor. You’d helped him put it on, piece by piece, unaware that as you worked the armorer was crafting something for you as well. He’d set two beskar ingots aside, his request of vambraces having been made prior to your arrival at the forge. Din thought you would object – you were a healer, not a warrior – and you were not a Mandalorian by Creed. But when you’d finished setting the final piece of his armor in place and the armorer had stepped out, Din had presented you with the unpainted vambraces and you’d silently accepted them. He hadn’t told you of the job that resulted in such a pay, but he didn’t need to. High reward meant high risk, and if wearing the armor meant easing his conscious regarding your safety then you’d hold your tongue.
But he hadn’t seen you since then. He’d meant to take another job, return to the covert with more credits and supplies before finally finding rest in your shared bed. He hadn’t anticipated the gnawing guilt, the little silver ball sitting atop a simple lever to send his world upside down. And he certainly hadn’t anticipated the covert revealing themselves, forcing them to relocate after he made his escape with the child - without you.
Paz Vizsla had assured him you would be safe, though. The tribe would protect you, as they had throughout the five years since you’d been brought before them. You were their healer, the former outsider that tended to their wounded and their foundlings. You’d readily sacrificed your freedom to live among Navarro’s shadows, only leaving the safe confines of the tunnel system to gather supplies when Din was off world. And although not sworn to the Creed, you were sworn to him – you were a part of the tribe by marriage, and they would treat you as one of their own. This was the Way.
“Stop,” Din reached for the light on the side of his helmet. They’d finally reached a juncture he recognized – the memory of you standing there with a foundling on your hip crashing into him as they’d rounded the corner – and he pulled his other arm from Cara’s shoulders. “I can stand. I’ll try to find tracks.”
Again, he fiddled with the settings on his helmet. But as his visor began scanning, it returned only faint traces. Boot prints of various sizes, adult and child alike, appeared to have rushed down one of the corridors weeks ago. Din knew it was futile, but he couldn’t help wondering which set was yours.
He led them through the tunnels now, the possibility of finding you safely hidden away with the covert propelling him forward. A few more turns, another dozen sets of prints lighting Din’s visor-
And Mandalorian armor, cracked and chipped and dented, in a pile on the floor.
There little quintet stopped short in the tunnel. For a moment, they forgot about the Imperials above ground. For a moment, all eyes followed Din as he stepped forward and fell to his knees. He picked up the nearest helmet, it’s dark and empty visor offering no comfort: he recognized it, the shades of blue and gold owning to only one among the covert.
As he turned it over in his hands, Cara moved gingerly to his side. He heard her say- “We should go.”
But Din still held the helmet in his hands. He wondered if he dug, would he find your vambraces amid the pile? Or the carefully crafted diadem – the beskar braided to rest just above your brow – that he’d given you upon exchanging vows? It’d been forged from a piece of his own armor, the only thing he could gift you in place of a signet he did not yet possess.
“You go.” His voice came from a distance. “Take the ship. I can’t leave it this way.”
‘I can’t leave not knowing if she’s still alive.’
Cara made to protest, to remind him of the Imperials that would surely be closing and the little green child that needed him – but before she could speak, Din had stood and turned on Karga. The guilt he had carried since leaving Navarro; the fear of losing you that he’d carefully hidden away; it all morphed into an ugly rage and he could no longer contain the storm that was whirling within him. His hand fell to the blaster at his hip when a voice cut through the tunnels-
It was the armorer, her helmet glinting in the tunnels low lighting. She was picking pieces of armor from the floor, salvaging what she could as she spoke. Din had been a member of her covert long before she rose to lead them, and she reassured him that he was not to blame for their fate. “We knew what could happen if we left the covert.”
And she retailed exactly what had happened: the immediate arrival of Imperials, the possibility that some escaped. But she did not mention your fate and Din found he could not speak the question. Instead, they merely followed as she returned to her forge.
Karga watched with great interest as the armorer began melting down what remained of a breast plate. Neither he nor Cara, who began to move about inspecting the room, interjected as the armorer asked of the child. They heard the truth of how it came to be in Din’s care, of what it was. Still sitting in the nurse droid’s arms, the child’s ears drooped as the armorer spoke of ancient tales and Mandalore The Great and battles fought eons past. It’s big eyes followed her as she scooped the now liquid beskar from the forge, only breaking from her as she reminded Din of their creed.
Din met the child’s gaze. The armorer, with her back to them, picked up a hammer and began to craft. And with every impact she made, Din could only flinch under his helmet. He needed to find you. He needed to know whether you were safe, to return you to his side not search the galaxy for this creatures home-
‘This is the Way.’
The armorer’s words echoed in his mind, and he found himself- for the first time- at odds with them.
So distracted by his thoughts of you and of the child, he did not hear as Cara reminded them of the Imperials searching for them or as the armorer detailed an exit route. Nor did he hear as footsteps began approaching, echoing off the walls of the tunnels at a sprint.
Karga and Cara immediately moved to either side of the entryway, their blasters in hand and Din, finally, registered what was happening. He still stood behind the droid, which had turned to shield the child from view – but the armorer continued her work, barely pausing to say, “Lower your blasters.”
Cara shot a questioning look at her, but her back was still to them.
The footsteps grew louder; Cara and Karga kept their blasters raised; Din’s hand hovered over his own-
And you came rushing into the room, your breath ragged and your hair disheveled. “They’re coming, Alor, from the south entrance-”
The sight of the man in beskar – the unpainted steel covered in blaster residue and scorch marks – stole whatever remaining breath you had and you immediately moved towards him, a choked ‘ner ka’rta’ on your lips. He heard you, gripped you as you clung to him.
At the sight before her, Cara finally lowered her blaster. She motioned for Karga to do the same, recognizing now who you were – you were the Mandalorian’s wife, the one he had mentioned on Sorgan. When they had driven out the village raiders and found rest and spoken of the future, Cara had inquired of the rules surrounding his helmet. She had asked why he wouldn’t remove it, why he wouldn’t settle down on the swampy planet with the widow and her daughter.
‘I’m married,’ he had said.
Cara had asked- ‘Where is she?’
And after a beat, ‘I don’t know.’
Cara had heard the pain in his voice, read the defensiveness in his body language. She hadn’t pushed the topic further.
Now she watched as you pressed your forehead to his, heard as you spoke quietly in a language she didn’t know. But time was against you, and the armorer had nearly finished her work.
“You must go,” she said. “A foundling is in your care.”
In your relief at seeing your husband alive, you hadn’t noticed the others. Now, as Din took in your own appearance – the beskar diadem still upon your forehead, your clothes and cloak dirtied and your medical bag slung over your shoulder – you saw the others. The man you recognized immediately – you’d seen him around the cantina, seen him as he spoke with Din. He was Guild, and the grip you had on Din’s arms tightened. The other was a woman, one whose eyes met yours with an expression you couldn’t read. But the armorer’s words quickly drew your gaze away, to the droid and the small green creature in its arms.
“By Creed, until it is of age or reunited with its own kind, you are as its father,” she continued. “And its mother. This is the Way.”
Your gaze again found Din’s: you had so many questions, so many concerns. Months had passed since you last saw him and so much had happened- so many lives had been lost. But you knew, among these people, now was not the time. Not when you had only spotted the approaching Imperials minutes ago. And Din’s gaze had never left you, one arm still holding you tightly to him.
Her work now complete, the armorer turned to fully face you and Din. “You have earned your Signet,” she said to him.
As she approached, Din’s grip on you finally loosened and you stepped away. But you didn’t go far, standing before him and watching with a mixture of confusion and pride as the armorer welded a figure onto his right pauldron. When she finished, she pressed something into his hands and said- “You are a clan of three.”
This should have been a momentous occasion, one marked by celebration as was typical of a Mandalorian earning their Signet. You should have been proud of your husband – and you were – but an explosion was heard and the unmistakable sound of boots followed and there was no time for traditions.
“It’s a scouting party,” you said, finding your voice again. “They found the south entrance, they come from the bazaar.”
The armorer turned to the droid and it immediately passed the foundling off to the nearest person – the woman- before making its way down the hall. She seemed to struggle for a moment, but the armorer had continued talking to Din and the Guild man guarded the door and no one seemed to know what to do with the foundling. So you stepped forward, your focus shifting entirely to the small creature as you lifted him from her arms and held him to your chest. The movement caused the light from the forge to bounce off your vambraces, and you missed how the woman seemed to assess you.
And as you quietly cooed at the foundling, his large eyes fixed on you and his little green claws reaching for your face, you missed the way your husband watched you. How his hands tightened around the set of pauldrons the armorer had given him, unpainted and bearing a matching mudhorn. How, after months of torment, he could finally breath again.

A/N: Hello 👋🏻 I’m gonna preface this by saying: this is not a guaranteed return. Life got a little crazy and busy and next thing I knew two whole years had passed since I’d been active on here and writing. And work took a turn recently and I found myself restarting The Mandalorian, turning to my old comfort show while the boyfriend was at work. Maybe it was rewatching the show; maybe it’s me craving an escape from work. But I remembered this sitting somewhere among my drafts and thought ‘what the hell?’ Hope y’all enjoyed it. We’ll see if this gets me back into writing. Be pretty cool if it did, I’ve missed it. And I’ve missed y’all<3
Taglist: It’s been so long, I don’t yet know who all is still active on here - so no tags today. But as always, comments, inbox, and messages are open should you like to be added!

The worst part of the Star Wars fan experience is when something is written into a movie or show that makes no sense and has zero precedence in lore or past media, and you and 90% of the audience are confused, but a handful of people on the internet manage to weave a plausible explanation out of thin air with no canon support, just a white-knuckled clawing at anything close to a logical reasoning, and people act like you're stupid for not realizing it first OR inarguably wrong for not accepting unfounded fanon just because it sounds good.

I didn't include any of the Visions episodes that are clearly before 100BBY simply because they would be next to impossible to date. While the other Visions episodes, for the most part, cannot be CLEARLY dated, they're pretty easy to ballpark with outfits, ship styles, comments made by the characters, and the presence or absence of the Empire.

prudiise o’r karau
Lit. “shadows in (the) starlight”
figment of imagination, trick of the light, mirage, phantasm, illusion
(from Ahsoka S1E8, but I thought it fit Mandalorians. Let’s say Sabine is translating a mando idiom here.)

okay so i couldn't help but have more thoughts watching s2e8 so here's my further rambles as i get through the episode besides me just going "oomf women <3" - spoiler alert under the cut
okay oomf women <3 sorry y'all just totally in love with the dynamic of this team it's so good and i'm sad we didn't get more of them
listen,,,,, the dark troopers are objectively terrifying and i hate them but man, they're so overkill at times sorry it feels so hopeless to watch that trooper totally annihilate and withstand din like that
on a similar note, din my beloved, how many head injuries do you have? because goddamn that's one hell of a beating and idk that "he has the helmet on!" so???? you think you can get punched in the head continuously by a beskar droid and come out with no damage?? at the very least his ears are fucked from the sound, at minimum my man has a concussion rn, and at the most he's got some serious shit going on (don't get me started on s1e8 because that's how I started writing my mando oc into the show, cause the medical issues that din most definitely would be dealing with are solid and i had to vent those medical frustrations somewhere)
apologies for the medical rant about din btw (not actually sorry tbh but yeah) cause man, that shit gets my brain working overtime, anyways i think it's so funny to watch din get thrown around like a ragdoll and then proceed to just yeet all these terrifying high tech murder droids out into space, because what ever happened to them??? i don't think we see them again?? are they just floating around in space???? that's scary bro
din lifting that trooper up by the neck with the spear with total ease,,,, yeah okay cool cool cool
on that note i fucking miss the spear so much :((( loved watching the spear choreografie and it felt so raw instead of just blaster fights, i wish we'd gotten more of that kind of stuff before it got melted down
i absolutely adore than din does not give a single fuck about literally anything other than his child. darksaber? don't know it and don't care to, just give me my kid. i respect that so much like, he doesn't care about the power it brings nor does he seem to really understand what the darksaber is or does, he just wants his kiddo to be safe with him and leave all that political bullshit to others. totally understandable
moff gideon is such a cool and complex character, and i think giancarlo esposito was the absolute perfect casting for this because he brings immense nuance to the role. why did he have me genuinely believing he was gonna let din leave with grogu? why are din and me both this gullible? is it because of his masterful delivery, or because we both want to see the best in people? maybe we'll never know
cue one of my absolute favourite fight scenes perhaps from the whole series - obsessed with the choreographie of this scene and the hand to hand combat. the spear kick and flip literally makes me pause and rewind every time like, i can't help but make a "ooh" sound out loud because i love it so much. gods we should have gotten so much more of this style of fighting!!! nothing screams mandalorian more to me than this battle y'all
DIN HOLDING MOFF GIDEON AT THE END OF HIS SPEAR OHHHH MAN yeah this scene really does it for me in so many ways i'm truly just a girl when watching this episode (not to mention he just casually accidentally became the one to rightfully claim the throne of mandalore, i'll never not find this funny as fuck, especially bo katan's reaction later i'm already giggling)
gideon's glee at bo katan not having the darksaber is actually so amusing and it rubs off on me cause why am i also cackling at her seething anger towards din rn. my man does not give a shit about this weapon, is fine just giving it to her, but because of some stupid ass ancient tradition she can't take it?? comedy gold right here. Like,,,
"the darksaber. it belongs to you." "now it belongs to her." "she can't take it. it must be won in battle. in order for her to wield the darksaber again, she would need to defeat you in combat." "i yield. it's yours." "oh no. *cackling* it doesn't work that way. the darksaber doesn't have power, the story does. without that blade, she's a pretender to the throne."
AND HER FACE THROUGHOUT ALL OF THIS IS PURE "i will murder you" AND IT TOTALLY SENDS ME!!! her grudging little "he's right." and din still not getting it, "come on, just take it." because ??? he doesn't care in the slightest, he just doesn't want the damn thing. he's got his kid so nothing else matters. i wonder if that alarm hadn't gone off, if bo would have taken it because she seemed to genuinely be considering it before the alarms went
hey remember when i said we never see the dark troopers again? yeah i totally forgot about them coming back to the ship lol sorry y'all i only ever watched this episode once because i'm too emotionally attached to the first season and never properly rewatched the second one until now. i have seen season 3 but i genuinely do not remember a single fucking thing about it so that's also gonna be fun
i think one of the reasons i find the dark troopers so genuinely unsettling is because they give off massive ww2 germany vibes, and by that i mean they visually feel reminiscent of the helmet style and it gives me luftwaffe vibes. in holland we get a lot of education on that stuff, especially since i'm from the east so we focus on that quite a bit since we were the first to be invaded (if my opa was still alive i think he would have hated star wars because of the overtness of the real war implications) so idk it sets off massive red flags and bells in my head and sends a bit of a chill down my spine. the music isn't helping though
(also this is not an open invitation to discuss war and war uniforms, i don't wanna talk about that stuff i just wanted to voice why the troopers unsettle me this much)
din patting grogu on his little head, "don't worry kid, i'm gonna get you out of here." *sobs*
all the subtle signs before luke is revealed is so *mwah*. a single x-wing arrives, grogu perks up once it enters the ship, gideon looking nervous as hell, the troopers stop and immediately shift their focus from our heroes to the newcomer,,, yeah great buildup
also luke is so damn dramatic with it, i love this kid <3 i was not a star wars child because my parents were never into it, so the mandalorian is what got me into star wars, but i really enjoy the original trilogy! a new hope is probably my fave, as simple as that sounds, just because i adore the trios dynamic in it so much, and i never thought i would get so into the lore and fandom but it's so cool?? i'm glad i could get into star wars even if it was later than most people
gideon taking his chance, din DIVING to the floor to protect his son oh my GOD, dad of the year award guys. also gideon's dramatic ass attempt immediately being foiled by cara is so funny to me, pathetic little man vibes rn
how,,, did grogu get up on the control panel?? he's so small. his dad watching him with such obvious care and love even through the helmet,,,, i love how important body language is with din and how well it's conveyed both through pedro and his stunt double (i know who it is i swear, my brain is just empty rn so if anyone wants to comment it please do). idk i love when din uses his whole head and body to convey his feelings and thoughts; tilting his head very obviously when he's confused or considering something, leaning in towards people he's really listening to, the slutty little knee (though that's mostly pedro tbh)
gods the fight choreographie *MWAH* i love it, obsessed with watching luke swipe through these troopers with such grace and ease, using the force so sparingly yet so effectively, it's not even that showy or anything, it's (mostly) very practical and i adore that!!
din and grogu having this silent conversation, they both know what has to happen next
cgi hamill can't hurt you, cgi hamill can't hurt you... but they couldn't have given him a slightly better haircut?? 😭 his unmoving face unsettles me i think this cgi is worse than what they did in rogue one for moff tarkin (that was some amazing cgi i have to say)
"are you a jedi?" ......din you're so stupid i love you so much
jedi and mandalorians are so similar in so many ways and i don't think either group likes that very much lmao, they both put younglings/foundlings at the top of their priority list, have ancient traditions that they stubbornly stick to, follow a creed of some kind and are very stuck in their ways.... maybe that's why they hate each other historically so much
had to pause on this scene because i was getting too emotional at their farewell and i couldn't see the screen through my tears ✌️ he's a good dad even if he's pretty dumb sometimes. he's a simple man in a complicated situation and he loves his son so much,,,,,,, yeah cool this is fine
LIKE COME ON THE FUCKING HEMLET TOUCH??? GROGU STARING UP AT HIS BUIR WITH THE BIGGEST WETTEST BROWN EYES THAT RIVAL HIS DADS??? DIN BREAKING HIS CREED, AGAIN, JUST FOR HIS SON???? JUST SO HE COULD SEE HIS FACE PROPERLY FOR ONCE BEFORE THEY SAY GOODBYE??? I AM EMOTIONALLY RAVAGED HOW DARE THEY I'M SO UPSET 😭 😭 😭
din why did you put your one foot tall son on the floor instead of handing him to the jedi directly lmao he's the size of a rotisserie chicken - GROGU WHINING AND HOLDING ONTO HIS BUIR'S FOOT????? I FORGOT ALL ABOUT THIS Y'ALL I'M NOT OKAY - R2 my beloved <33 favourite droid in the whole galaxy fr
luke holding grogu specially so he can see over his shoulder, i see you and i love you for this
din "brown eyes" djarin breaking my fucking heart - love the little detail that all the others are actually behind din so they haven't necessarily seen his face! just the back of his head! so luke and mayfeld are the only people that have actually seen din's face (IG-11 is a droid so i'm not counting him) - but anyway pedro is so good at the "kicked puppy wet eyed look" that i think it's gotta be his signature thing by now right?
could you imagine how fucking funny it would have been if boba appeared just in time to see luke get into his ship and he's like "isn't that the asshole jedi that sent me flying into the sarlacc??? din what's he doing with the kid???? YOU LET THE GUY THAT CONDEMNED ME TO YEARS OF PAIN AND SUFFERING TAKE YOUR CHILD AND YOU HAVE NO CONTACT INFORMATION FOR HIM??????" he would've murdered din on the spot i'm cackling
i forgot there is an after credits scene let's goo - bib fortuna looking GROSS i adore the practical effects so much more than the cgi sorry y'all you cannot beat prosthetic work goddamn he looks amazing
fennec <3333 boba's entrance mmm just straight up killing bib is such a slay honestly, the setup for bobf is so good and i love this duo, i wish we'd gotten so much more of them!!!! the hype was so real i remember being so excited when it first aired
wow what a lot of words my bad y'all sometimes i can't help myself!! hope it amuses some of you and feel free to fangirl with me over this stuff cause yeah it's awesome 👍

Ahsoka S1E8
That was in line with the rest of the season, I guess. So I'm going to sort of combine my review of this ep and the entire series
Things I liked:
Huyang (absolute MVP of the entire series, a new fave)
Ezra
The conversation between Huyang and Ezra, building lightsabers
Ezra coming home and Chopper recognizing him
The Mortis statues and how dramatic Baylan looked on top of them
The visuals and fights in general were pretty cool
Negative stuff behind the cut
Things I didn't like:
The episode title! 'The Jedi, The Witch and the Warlord'. Really, Dave?
Lack of Baylan (and even Shin)
Morgan getting a shiny new sword. She's a witch, could we not have come up with anything else?
Thrawn simply isn't that scary (yet?)
And the big one: Ahsoka herself. I've grown to like most of the characters, but I realized I simply don't like this version of Ahsoka. Maybe they tried a bit too hard to make her cool?
Things I hate:
They way they handled Ahsoka 'reconciling' her feelings about Anakin. It seems like she's mostly concerned about turning evil herself, and Baylan hinted at a specific incident, but we're never told more. After her vision she's also immediately a diehard Anakin stan right away? Like, what? I get that she'd be cool acknowledging he was a good master to her and that she can cherish those memories, but he was still Vader for 20-odd years. You'd think someone would mention it.
Sabine suddenly being Force-sensitive/there being no such thing because *everyone* is Force-sensitive and you just have to 'unlock your potential'. I genuinely thought/hoped that at the end of this series everyone was going to come to the sensible realization that that's nonsense and Sabine's fine being a Mandalorian. But alas.
The rule against attachments is out of the window, I guess? I mean yeah, we unleashed a warlord on the galaxy, but our friend is (hopefully!) safe, so you did good? FFS Ahsoka, you really are your master's apprentice.
The entire show felt as if Filoni was clearing out his drafts or maybe his bucket list or something? Just one cool SW thing after another. Which sounds great, except none of it was properly explored or resolved. Some of it still could be, but I'm not even sure if they're interested in doing that? It made the show very unsatisfying at times.

Azrael's Fic Master List
Here's my (rather long) list of fanfics I have published on ao3 and will be updated in the future.
List is divided into three categories: on-going works, completed works and one-shots.

I fully appreciate that jetpack skills are Art of the Rising Phoenix. And I fully appreciate that Deathwatch, as the traditionalists who still had their gear, was the ones to protect people from the CIS.
S2E1: Baby loves motorcycles. Grandma loves baby. Best. Din why are you so shippable. "I hope our paths cross again." They will because I said so.

greef is entertaining enough but cara and mythol or whatever are so boring :( it really felt like a filler episode which sucks cause we only get 8 episodes a season. and if they NEEDED a filler episode like this it should’ve had a lot more din and the child. (sorry if this is an unpopular opinion skgjsg)
ahhh but i don't think this was a filler my dear!! we got some clear plot set up and we found out how nevarro is doing, we saw the dreaded moff, we saw din go spinny spin. i understand you but personally i feel this was an excellent episode 🥰 & we did get a lot more father/son interaction! plus greef was fantastic💙 set up like this is necessary sometimes, it doesnt mean filler!
