Jon: Wow look at all of these Freaks and Weirdos in these statements. Good thing that I'm unlike them and always logical and intelligent.
Also Jon: Supplemental-- I am in the walls.

Season two of TMA is ridiculous. It's basically just:
Found Martin's notebook. He's written "Mr. Martin Sims" several times on every page. Clearly he's planning to kill me and take my identity

My personal favorite is “supplemental: I’ve broken into Gertrude’s flat”
Oh also Martin finding the pictures Jon took of Tim’s house 😭
Unhinged Jon will forever be the funniest Jon, man was really out roaming the tunnels and stalking his coworkers like there was no tomorrow

if i nickel for every time a frail (,queer,) thirtyish year old man with way too much curiosity for his own good and a dead female assistant with round glasses nearly died in an explosion and came back as something not quite human because of the nature of the forces he was messing with and later on became a lowkey jesus figure with his new powers...

anybody who says that jon was stupid for being paranoid during season 2 would Not survive the horror movie
- the previous head archivist disappears under mysterious circumstances.
- he is then given the position of head archivist, something he’s well aware he isn’t qualified for.
- while working this position he’s constantly plagued by the feeling of being watched, to the point that he outwardly modifies his behavior in reaction to the statements to try to throw off whatever the source of this feeling Is.
- during all of this, his co-worker suddenly goes missing only to come back with news of having been held hostage by a living flesh hive trying to eat him with worms.
- this living flesh hive is now sending worms to your place of work.
- while trying to figure out how to deal with the worms he finds a statement from the flesh hive that is Directly Speaking To the previous archivist. cementing the fact that the magnus institute is being sieged by worms Because Of A Grudge Against The Head Archivist Position.
- while this is happening Mysterious Delivery Men show to Directly deliver a dangerous artifact To Him in the magnus institute, referring to him directly as “the archivist.”
- the flesh hive does, in fact, break into the institute and eat him with worms, specifically calling out To Him (to The Archivist) as she comes in.
- while running around trying not to be eaten by worms, one of his coworkers finds a secret tunnel system that’s been directly connected to their building that just so happens to be hundreds of years old.
- and while he’s being Actively eaten by worms his Other coworker finds the murdered body of the woman who was the previous archivist, who the flesh hive had been addressing in her statement, propped up in those very tunnels.
if you look at all of that and say “there’s No Reason for jon to think that anybody was trying to kill him, he should’ve just tried not being paranoid” I’m sorry but the girl from the ring would win. you are not the final girl, you’re not even the fourth.

The Good Omens S2 finale is akin to The Magnus Archives S5 finale in the sense that, instead of understanding both characters in the relationship were proposing the incorrect solutions but they were given no choices out of the mess, the fandom took it upon themselves to discuss Who Was Right.
It's about the world being grey and protagonists that refuse to understand that -- too stuck on their ideas of humanity/monsterhood or goodness/evil.
It's about characters not being able to break out from their abusive workplaces and the saviour complex they have. It's about a relationship where they both agree being togheter is fiercely important -- but for one of them, the world's well being weighs more and they can't bear to give up. It's about not being given a third choice, it's about not communicating properly, it's about humanity.
It's about escapism vs martyrdom. Denial vs guilt. ''No one can solve it, let's forget about it, it's all fucked'' vs ''let me try, maybe I can, maybe I can''. ''Don't ask me to give up on the world'' vs ''don't ask me to give up on our promises to each other''.
It's about obtaining power not for power's sake but because you can't bear the idea that I can fix it, please be with me as I fix it. It's about seeing your beloved making themselves responsible for a cause you already consider lost and thinking it's about rejecting you.
It's ''you betrayed me and i betrayed you. it's about us. it's about togheter, we promised''.

Listening to malevolent after the magnus archives is an experience. I listened to tma to fall asleep with Jonathan Sims calming voice speaking of unimaginable horrors. In malevolent everybody is screaming all the time.

Have I mentioned how gut wrenching the slow progression from "Jonathan Sims-- Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London" to "Jonathan Sims-- The Archivist" is?
These are Jon's introductions of himself. He had already had people simply calling him "The Archivist" way back in season one, but he never introduced himself that way. He declared his title of Archivist as what he saw it to be-- a job title and nothing more.
And then we reached season three and there was a gap where we had "Jonathan Sims, former Archivist" and the words were still spoken as one would a job title but with a certain sense of grief that was incongruous with the professional veneer.
And finally, the reveal of what the Archives were and what being The Archivist truly meant happened, and Jon stopped pretending-- even to himself-- that it was just a job. No, he was Jonathan Sims-- The Archivist-- and it was spoken with the gravitas and responsibility of a king's title. It was now part of who he was.
And then, season five, and it's no longer "Jonathan Sims--". It is merely "The Archivist". Because Jon believes his humanity to have died along with the world he was tricked into dooming. His person-hood is secondary-- and can perhaps be considered more of a job title now in a similar way to how Jon referred to being The Archivist in season one. In season five, Jon believes his entire being to have been consumed by the Watcher. The Archives and his job as the Archivist can no longer be seen as a job, or even as a part of who he is, because it is ALL he is. There is no part remaining of Jonathan Sims, because he is The Archivist first and foremost. He doesn't believe his own humanity great enough to be mentioned.
He is, of course, wrong. But it wouldn't be a tragedy if he didn't realize that until it was too late.

The “mundane modern solutions to arcane supernatural problems” trope gets me every time. Like nothing will ever top the episode of the Magnus Archives where Adelard Dekker looked at a horseman-of-the-apocalypse-style world-ending bringer of pestilence and went, “Well, you can’t end the world if you’re encased in cement.”
