He cries. Your chest is pressed against the concrete floor. Back, crushed by the heavy rubble.

It hurts to breathe. There's blood in your lungs, escaping through your mouth and nose. Every nerve in your body feels like it's on fire. You're body screaming at you to just close your eyes and give up. But you can't.

Because Simon's crying. You made him cry. And the guilt encompassing you is even heavier than what pins you to the ground.

He's frantic. Eyes searching. Vision slightly obscured by the wave of tears escaping through his water line. His chest is heaving. Gear suddenly too tight on his body. Simon wants to be stronger, wants to be the unbreakable lieutenant everybody's known to respect. But right now he feels like a lost boy. The one that screams for his mother to come back. The thought of being vulnerability, especially at a time like this makes him shake. He's scared.

Oh God. He's so scared.

What should he do? Call for help? Hold your hand? Cry...?

Tell him, please..

Someone just.

...Tell him what to do...

He doesn't know anymore. Brain reverting to that of a frightened little boy. He holds your hands in his and you hate how you can no longer feel it. You're barely breathing as Simon weeps over you. On his knees, back hunched over as it he's praying.

He pleads to you.

"I'm scared. I–I don't know what do. Please, just..... Just, tell me what I should do..."

You take your last breath..

"Just breathe, Simon..."

Aside from canon, this is the only AU I’ve written where there is MCD and I was emotional writing it. I had never written MCD for either Remus or Sirius, only ever once for Jily i.e. the canon version of 1981.

-Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross (It's a fantasy series that's set during a war between gods BUT the main characters fall in love over letters they write using a magical typwriter. It's cute, I think you'd like it.)

-The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center (I got an ARC of this a couple months ago and I absolutely FLEW through it. She writes a lot of cute romcoms) You could also check out The Bodyguard and Hello Stranger by her, too.

-Next-Door Nemesis by Alexa Martin (This one's fun because the main pairing have a history but then they decide to run against each other to be HOA president.)

-Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries and Emily Wilde's Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett (Another fantasy series, but it's more of a cozy fantasy. Emily and Wendell have THE best banter)

-Josh and Hazel's Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren (I read this years ago, but I remember giggling and kicking my feet.)

-A Lot Like Adiós by Alexis Daria (Friends to lovers, fake dating, and second chance romance)

-I also currently have Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez and This Summer Will be Different by Carley Fortune sitting on my bedside table. Haven't read them yet but the summaries sounded the right combo of fluffy and summery to me

Every word he pens is inadequate, and the brush in his hand is crooked and sluggish, and another colorless midnight has almost passed, and still, he has nothing to show for it. His valiant unnamed hero claims a narrow victory against the Tai-Shogun’s cyborg samurai, and then—and then…

When Xingqiu’s eyelids flutter open again, the lantern by his window has dimmed considerably… He cannot have dozed off for that long, can he?

At least his father and brother are asleep. It would be best if they never find out about his sleeping schedule.

The shadow of his hand is so sharp against his lantern-lit draft. Xingqiu traces the ridges of his knuckles, a flickering black silhouette on the page beneath it. From this angle, it almost looks like a dragon’s mouth, one of the Natlan kinds… maybe he’ll be able to see one in person someday…

His eyes shut slowly.

My very serious question(s) for y'all, if you don't mind (and I promise I'm not asking this fishing for compliments, I am just really interested to know), is if I published a romance novel, would you want to read it? Would you want to pay money for it? Would you read it if it weren't quite as smut heavy/not about EP (but in a similar vein)?

One, I cannot BELIEVE how amazing and supportive this community has been to me and my growth as a writer. I never in a million years expected this response to what started out as a teenie one-shot in my head. Pink Scarf has pushed me in so many ways, and I know I'm still learning and growing with each sentence and PS certainly isn't perfect, but y'all still take precious time out of your lives read and comment and reblog and share and just WOW. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. 💜

Two, the reason I ask (and would be hesitant to share if not for so many of y'all being so kind and supportive) is that I am in the very beginning stages of attempting to make this a reality...like I'm actually in the process of making a huge career change. (Well, I actively quit my very stable career this summer because it was killing me and because writing has been calling out to me for years. Now I'm figuring out how to make it actually happen and how to try and make a living at it and OMG is it a terrifying prospect for someone who has made all previous life choices in the name of stability LOL)

I am truly curious to know what y'all think (even if it's "girl, get yourself a day job cuz there's no way!" LOL)...or if any of y'all out there are published author/creatives who have any pointers, feel free to message me!!
