Minette Watches: Il Gattopardo Mondays 1/6

Basically, I resolved to watch the new remake of Il Gattopardo (The Leopard), the Italian classic - but only on Mondays, for reasons related to my personal life and school. I may explain later. For now, all you need to know is that I will write a post about my experiences after every episode, Minette Watches Medici style.)

Why does this thing have a Holywood Mexico piss filter all over the place? Together with just so-so costumes, it makes the whole thing look more than a little sad. ITV Victoria this ain't.

The script is fucking great; I mean that's probably just because it's a good adaptation of a novel that is a classic for a reason, but still.

I absolutely get why Tancredi is his uncle's special little boy, if anything old Gattopardo doesn't adore him enough. Granted, that might be because he's a stuck-up old man who doesn't get what an amazing thing the unified Italy is going to be. They have Caparezza, goddamnit!

That said, Tancredi has an attractive personality, but isn't really hot, unlike his evil old man, who I am deeply ashamed to be thirsty for. Like damn, he's more fuckable than when he was Romualdo, and that's saying something, because being horny on main for femboys like him is Minette's specialty. I have no editing software and zero skills in this regard, but if I did, I'd be making Wildest Dreams edits for that bastard.

Concetta is boring af, but she has a very cute name, so I remember it. Other than her and her shitty lickspittle of a brother, noone stands out so far.

If you've ever watched a Game of Thrones-esque political drama or a mafia story and bitched that there's noone to really root for, because everyone's cause is complete bullshit, boy do I have a show for you! Not saying Kingdom of Italy was perfect, but the regime it's trying to replace here is. Uh. Let's say the mafia story here isn't just refering to it being set in Sicily.

reading the synopsis of the original novel of the leopard on wiki after finishing the netflix series:

as someone who hasn't read the novel, when i finished watching, i had a mixed feeling, lol. on one hand, i was glad to see concetta being the one who managed to get everything her father lost. on the other hand, i couldn't help but to think about what it all meant that this royal family got to rule over the small folks again? i mean, yeah, the other guy wasn't better lol, but still. i thought the point of the story was they had to rush in a new era of democracy. and after reading the synopsis, everything actually made sense to me, even the thing about bendico's remains. i was actually wondering if they were planning for a season 2 that would focus on a much older concetta and the fall of the family?

loving the bombello × concetta video! Best that could have been... sigh...

Thank you very much, my dear. This couple has entered my "hall of tragic romances" along with Edith and Thomas from "Crimson Peak" (I really have a soft spot for this kind of plot).

What makes me most indignant is how Concetta, who was offered the proposal by her own COUSIN, Tancredi, to be his LOVER and she is still in love with him! He even had the nerve to ask "how were they?" as soon as Bombello set foot outside... MY SON, YOU ARE MARRIED! LET CONCHETTA BE HAPPY AND MARRY THE ONE WHO REALLY LOVES HER. And Bombello was not just a man who loved her, no... he was the MAN who LOVED her regardless of the Corbera's financial situation not being so good, even though the Corbera family did not approve of their union and wanted him out of there. He waited 2 years to marry her, swallowed his pride and lost her to a man who didn't "want her enough and wouldn't let anyone else want her".

Even though I had read the book and knew that this story would go nowhere, I was disappointed. In the end, Concetta is the Leopard and "reigns" through her brother Francesco, a Puppet Prince, and parades through the family's plantations at sunset as if they still had some power, lost due to the decline of the monarchy and a false speech of freedom and that she had finally built something "hers".

It would have been better if she had become a Nun, that way she would contribute more since she wanted to have a role in society.

Anyway, in my head, Concetta and Bombello meet again years later, get married and have lots of babies🥹💖
