do you have any tips for writing mermaids? i love your work ^-^
How to Write Mermaids
-> Things to Think About and Consider When Writing Merpeople and Mer Fiction
-> How to Write a Mermaid (anc writing resources)
These are just some suggestions! Feel free to pick and choose based on what best fits your story.
Physical Appearance
Tail Variations: Instead of a uniform tail type, consider different adaptations: sleek, dolphin-like tails for fast swimmers; large, strong tails with iridescent scales for deep-sea mermaids; or frilled, flowing fins like a lionfish for camouflage. Some might have tails resembling eels or sharks, giving them a menacing or streamlined look.
Scales and Coloration: In deep-sea areas, mermaids might have dark, bioluminescent scales with patterns that mimic the stars or the sea floor. Shallow-water mermaids might have brighter, coral-like colors to blend in.
Scars and Symbols: Scars from battles with sea creatures, markings from coral, or even bioluminescent tattoos could add depth.
Eyes Adapted to the Ocean: Mermaids’ eyes might be unusually large, with reflective layers to enhance night vision. They could have vertical pupils like a cat’s or even multiple layers of eyelids, including a transparent one to protect them from salt and silt.
Webbed Hands and Clawed Fingers: Webbed hands would enhance their swimming ability, and clawed fingers might be used for self-defense or hunting. Some might have retractable claws or spines to protect themselves from predators.
Culture
Language and Communication: Consider how sound works underwater; it travels faster and farther but differently. Maybe they use gestures, a sign language, or even musical calls to communicate. Their language might be melodic or full of trills and hums that are difficult for land creatures to understand.
Beliefs and Myths: Mermaids would likely have their own stories, rituals, and superstitions. Maybe they worship ocean gods, the moon, or view shipwrecks as holy places. They might believe in omens from ocean currents, the arrival of rare sea creatures, or changes in the tides.
Social Structure: Decide if they live in schools, pods, or solitary. A royal family, councils of elders, or a group of shamans could govern them. Do they form alliances or rivalries with other sea creatures or even human sailors?
Hierarchy and Elders: Older mermaids or those with powerful magical abilities may hold significant respect and authority. These elders could be responsible for rituals, storytelling, and maintaining the balance of magic within their community.
Seasonal Gatherings and Ceremonies: The ocean has its own rhythms—tides, moon phases, migrations—and mermaids might gather for ceremonies tied to these events. For instance, they could honor the arrival of certain fish schools or perform rituals under a full moon for strength and unity.
Jewelry and Artifacts: Mermaids might decorate themselves with jewelry made of shells, coral, pearls, and items retrieved from shipwrecks. Certain pieces may symbolize rank, magical prowess, or family lineage, with specific stones or materials believed to channel energy.
Tattooing and Body Art: Many mermaids may tattoo themselves with ink made from squid or octopus, using markings that indicate status, clan, or achievements. Bioluminescent tattoos or body paint could glow at night or during important rituals.
Magical Abilities
Special Senses: Consider heightened senses, like echolocation, the ability to detect changes in water temperature, or a heightened sense of smell for tracking prey or sensing danger. These would add to their unique oceanic identity and give them a slight advantage over surface dwellers.
Control over Water and Weather: Some mermaids can call storms, manipulate tides, or create currents. This might be a rare gift, often feared for its destructive potential. Using such magic could leave them physically or mentally drained.
Healing and Transformation: Certain mermaids could have powers to heal wounds or diseases with seawater, or transform sea creatures into protective spirits. However, each healing might weaken them temporarily or require offerings to the ocean in return.
Song and Illusion: Siren song is a classic power; mermaids could enchant, hypnotize, or create illusions through melody. Overuse might leave them voiceless or mentally scarred, with some even risking losing themselves to the song forever.
Shape-Shifting: For those able to take human form, transformation might come at a great personal cost. Perhaps they can only transform for a limited time, or their time on land drains their magic, forcing them to return to the water to recover.
Physical Depletion: Magic use might be physically taxing, aging a mermaid slightly or sapping their strength. Frequent magic use could make them appear older or leave permanent marks on their body, like scars or discolored scales.
Price of Blood or Offering: Magic might demand a price—whether in the form of a personal sacrifice or a blood offering to the ocean. For powerful spells, mermaids may even need to leave behind something they value, such as memories, emotions, or treasured artifacts.
Risk of Transformation: High-level magic could alter a mermaid’s physical form temporarily or permanently. They might grow extra fins, become partially transparent, or even lose their voice after certain spells.
Mental Toll and "Ocean Madness": Overuse of magic could lead to a condition known as "Ocean Madness," a state in which mermaids lose touch with reality, becoming isolated or forgetting their own identity. This is particularly feared among mermaids, as it might mean permanent exile or being lost to the ocean.
Forbidden or Dark Magic: Some magic forms might be considered taboo or forbidden due to their dangerous nature. Practicing dark magic, like curses or soul-binding, could bring severe consequences, both in physical tolls and social exile.
Character Motivation and Conflict
Relationship with Humans: Decide whether mermaids are fascinated by or wary of humans. Some might be drawn to them out of curiosity or romantic allure, while others might distrust them due to pollution, fishing, or old tales of betrayal. Their interactions with humans can reveal a lot about their personality and worldview.
Desire for Land or Home: Consider what might tempt a mermaid to leave their watery home. Do they long to experience human life, seek revenge for an oceanic wrong, or retrieve a lost artifact from a shipwreck? This longing could add depth to their character.
Struggles with Transformation: If your mermaids can shift between human and mermaid forms, consider how this affects their identity and relationships. Transformation could be painful, rare, or come at a high price, adding dramatic tension and giving their character arc extra weight.
Quest for Authority: In a hierarchical society, some mermaids might crave power or authority, seeking to rise through the ranks or challenge an elder. Such ambition could lead them to take risks, learn forbidden magic, or ally with powerful sea creatures.
Personal Pride or Legacy: Some mermaids might want to establish themselves as legends, known for feats of bravery or wisdom. This could involve dangerous quests to recover lost artifacts, hunt rare sea creatures, or explore dangerous parts of the ocean. Their pursuit of legacy might set them at odds with their peers, especially if it leads to recklessness.
Torn Between Worlds: A mermaid who can transform and walk on land might struggle with a dual identity. If spending time on land slowly diminishes their powers, they could grapple with the desire to stay connected to both worlds, fearing losing either part of themselves.
Conflict Between Duty and Desire: Many mermaids might feel a sense of duty to their family, tribe, or ocean gods, conflicting with their personal desires. They could be pressured to fulfill a prophecy, protect a magical artifact, or avoid contact with humans, even if it clashes with their true passions.
Past Mistakes or Betrayals: A mermaid who has broken societal rules—whether by consorting with humans, using dark magic, or violating clan boundaries—might feel guilt or face exile. Redemption could become a strong motivator, pushing them to right their wrongs, often at great risk or personal cost.
Haunted by Family Legacy: If a mermaid comes from a family of notorious outcasts, warriors, or traitors, they might struggle with the burden of redeeming their family’s name or rising above that legacy. This could lead them into difficult choices about loyalty and personal integrity.
Hunters and Captors: Humans might hunt mermaids for their scales, powers, or knowledge, forcing mermaids into hiding or guerrilla-like resistance. A character driven by a desire for vengeance against humans could lead to morally complex actions and choices.

GAYEST ARTHURIAN TEXT BRACKET ROUND 2:
propaganda:
The Wedding:
-“gender role fuckery”
-bi4bi t4t text ever? scholars say yes
SGATGK:
- “kissing”
-“Gawain getting kisses from Bertilak’s wife and kissing Bertilak is very bi”
- I'm back with another answer. Obviously the kissing game is iconic. The scholarship about this poem is unparalleled. The people cannot get enough of submissive kissy face Gawain & frankly neither can I. He definitely fucked that couple. Or perhaps it's more accurate to say, they fucked him. Easy litmus test for a retelling is how they handle adapting this. Only cowards write around the kissing. Real ones make it even gayer.”
- “Gawain kisses a man in this”
- “3some, poly, bi conduit, gay kiss, gawain”
- “i'm going to kill myself i had a few paragraphs of propaganda typed up and accodentally deleted it all. holy ahit. anyways i have no doubt that this has been submitted before but it is my moral duty to say so again. even excluding the fact that lord bertilak sets up this game of exchange of winnings and sends his wife to seduce gawaine—knowing that gawaine will have to return whatever he recieved unto bertilak—and their kisses and embraces (which are technically 'excusable' under medieval homosocial behaviour), there's a sort of erotic fascination with the green knight everpresent throughout the text, the author, the pearl poet, even taking, what, five (? give or take a few. my memory fails me) verses to describe how green and big and beautiful the green knight is. the green knight kneels before gawaine, letting gawaine take the blow to cut off his head, and later, the green knoght takes a blow to cut off gawaine's head. it's all about reciprocity and exchanges and submission. it's SO erotic . i just. yeah :)”
- ill also say the way gawain is framed in parallel to the lords hunting scenes making him a pursued animal and the wife the pursuer who has him at her mercy is very interesting gender dynamics and role reversal

The off season ramblings under the cut :)
-I forgot this started with sam and ajs characters hunting pheasants bc it never gets brought up again
-"You have to encourage the working class" FUCKING HELL SAM ITS NOT EVEN BEEN A MINUTE YOU CANT KILL ME LIKE THAT YET
-"Here phesy phesy pheasants" wild that that's gonna become a new vocal stim
-sam bringing up the name of the longform is my favorite thing
-why are they like this (re: "Jacob sit on my knee", "was it big", and "who's a good boy")
-earl Geoffrey teaching John Jacob about mansplaining is both everything and absolutely horrid
-WHO IS THIS DIVA
-angel and Mrs daltrey's relationship is so cute :(
-I'm so glad Mrs daltrey became more understandable as the scene went on i don't think I could have listened to sam mumble for 50 minutes
-my version of Mrs daltreys mind theatres is imagining getting to see sfth live
-this fucking bit (re: spiral staircases and forgetting the key)
-the staging in this scene is so damn confusing I think I'm more lost than John jacob
-gun dinosaurs :D
-tall, strong, and handsome are exactly the words I would use to describe luke
-love when the force aj to establish the time range
-the time between being told to make a comeback and "how's the weather up there" kills me
-Mrs daltrey getting into the insult game
-im convinced Tom's wife character was a ploy to get attention
-aj this is worse logic than the lighthouse I'm so lost
-they look so good in this date scene holy shit
-Tom mentions his hair and Luke spends the entire rest of the scene fixing it
-the wet jokes are making me feel like an appalled Victorian woman clutching her pearls
-he's just a bakers son from fife :(
-EARL GEOFFERY DONT DO IT
-I didn't register the first time around, but angel probably spends the whole escape scene splattered in blood
-AJ HAS AQUIRED A RAILING AND EARL JEFFERY HAS AQUIRED A GUN :O
-woo sam cabbie
-"it's so tall. Reminds me of someone" is that rizz???
-John Jacob is bleeding out and they're doing the one bed trope what the hell
-sam was really winding up for that "i forgot the key" wasn't he
-more gun dinos :D
-aj has also aquired the god mic
-"a McDonald's happy meal" BOOOOO TOMATO TOMATO TOMATO WORST THING YOUVE EVER SAID
-whoo that was one of the more lustful (for lack of better term) kisses they've had
-SCARLETT JOHANSSON WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?????
-what is this gun dino bit???? (/pos)
-Ok ms johansson get your bag (aka all of suffolk)
-Tom's refusal to name his character
-what the fuck (re: :pq: )
-she knows???
-angel the woman that you are, driving the plot twist of the century
-Mrs daltrey chooses good :D
-angel still cared about her father, even after everything :( she was so sad when he died and had to be convinced it was a good thing
-Mrs daltrey is so speedy quick
In all, my thoughts on this one are holy fuck. Very, very well done, and congrats to the boys on 50 longforms

also for the people who have not engaged in my roleplay blog i'll tell you about my cranboo origin headcanon.
ranboo starts off as a completely normal enderman. he isn't special in any way. because of this, cdream decides hes the perfect candidate for his next way at trying to gain power over the server: dreamons.
i never explicitly say how he gets the dreamon dna, but after kidnapping ranboo, he slowly starts injecting dreamon dna into ranboo and testing the results in an underground lab far away (not the same one cranboo makes in the stronghold).
i personally envision dreamons looking a lot like the amalgams in undertale and it also kind of connects that stupidass blob to server canon. they can shift and morph into anyone which fits into the actual canon dreamon hunters, and so it's easy for the dreamon half of ranboo to mimic an enderman, though it remains the ghostly white. it removes some of ranboos enderman traits such as teleporting- i imagine by shutting off their body's ability to make pearls- and warps a few other traits, like silk touch applying to a lot more than just grass and glass. (because there's not much at all in the actual dreamon lore i can kind of do whatever i want and so i will.)
this is when the enderwalk forms: a version of ranboo who remembers everything that happened to them and whos job is to protect them from dream using any means necessary, even doing things they really don't want to do. it's all about survival. (this is why the enderwalk has such a connection to dream and why he later does things for him that cranboo would never do.)
he gets around halfway through before ranboo breaks out, and makes a beeline for the main server with dream chasing after him. this is where we get to ranboos day 1 stream. in the beginning of the stream, ranboo spawns in and has no memory of anything before the server, and thus does not remember dream. because dream is hunting ranboo to kill his failed project, this explains why dream immediately takes out two of his canon lives right at the start of the server.
in the stream though, ranboo makes it to the holy land, and dream can't kill him. he meets niki and a bunch of other server members, and has cemented his place in the server. so instead, dream decides to see if maybe his little experiment actually has some use, and as a pure survival tactic, the enderwalk helps dream, even if he really really doesn't want to.
what i really like about this is it makes ranboo ordinary, and i think that makes it all the more impactful. i like trying to think of a reason that the enderwalk helps dream despite clearly wanting to protect the people he cares about, and so i think having him act as a morally dubious protector makes a lot of sense. i also think it explains dream immediately taking two of ranboos lives in the first stream and why they have to run for their life right off the bat. also it contributes to the weird experimentation thing cdream has later on. who's to say he hasn't done this before?

Thoughts on Slugcat Mythology UwU
So for the most part I’ve been musing about biology here, but recently I’ve started musing about slugcat culture.  If slugcats are (as I like to think) a sapient species (if not a very advanced one) how might they perceive the world?
More specifically, because I am a fantasy worldbuilder over a science fiction one and I like coming up with stories about gods and monsters, what might slugcat MYTHOLOGY be like?
Rain World is a very harsh world to live in.  It’s full of deadly weather, enormous predators, abominations of nature, and countless other threats for a tiny slugcat, and unlike their predecessors the ancients, the slugcats don’t yet have the scientific knowledge to understand how everything works.  They’re not a united society, more like a bunch of tribes and loners struggling to survive.  Many things they didn’t understand would be attributed to the work of gods or spirits, and they’d revere things that help a scug clan not only survive, but thrive, and whisper warnings to their pups to stay out of dangerous places.
Perhaps the slugcats have gods of the hunt or the bounty of nature, beings who grant them strength to bring down mighty beasts to feed the clan or gift them luck to find food to bring home to their families.  Or maybe they worship gods who have blessed them with resilience, the determination to keep stubbornly going no matter what dangers the world might throw at them.
There are stories of strange beings which live in the metal mountains that tower above the rains and clouds, who gift knowledge never before known.  There are pictures of them carved into trees and stones, odd tailless gods of another long-gone people chained inside their temples with great halos of pearls circling them like satellites.
The slugcats tell of a plague inflicted on those who intrude on the decaying ruins, one that lingers in the highest, twisting places of the world, and oozes into the depths.  A corruption that consumes the body and in turn forces it to consume, friends turning upon friends, littermates upon littermates, parents upon pups, as it eats the entire world starting from the tallest of peaks.  There are stories of what might happen if its endless hunger consumes all, the world becoming nothing but disease and rot.
There are great heroes of legend, slugcats who ventured beyond their lands to bring home wisdom and lead their peoples into posterity.  There are stories of the messengers of the gods, slugcats chosen to bring the holy words and wisdom of the gods to new recipients, for the cost of never living amongst their kind again.  There are stories of great wars between colonies, of slugcat pitted against slugcat for the struggle of survival.  There are whispers of monstrous slugcats who have bathed in the blood of their enemies and become drunk on the slaughter, stuck in a never-ending cycle of bloodshed and pain.
There are tales of a great sea of gold beneath the earth, so deep below that the rains cannot reach them.  A sea which offers an end to the strife and suffering.  A place where the people of the past turned to, when their gods could not save them, and the realm that chained gods long for, hoping to reach it once they’ve broken their bonds.
There are prophecies of a guide who will one day lead the dying gods to their final resting places, deep beneath the earth.  Of the world one day crumbling, and everything ending in one last dying gasp - for everything lives and dies again, becoming something new, and the world is no different.

ohh holy shit ren tell me abt pearl and scar in the apocalypse au. I haven’t read through all the posts abt it just the main explanation but tell me more. Who do you think breaks first out of mumbo and grian? Who stops trying first? ohhh what the hell you can’t keep doing this to me . Please keep doing it but like ohhhhh -🤖
HI IM SO EXCITED I GET TO TALK ABOUT THIS AU AGAIN
LONG POST AHEAD UNDER THE CUT:
Pearl: I put more info about the side/background characters here but something I didn't mention about her is that she is VERY protective of Grian, and when Mumbo causes Grian pain (unintentionally) she gets very angry and almost violent with him. She's always kind of around, even though she doesn't show herself very often. Most of the time she's out pretending to be human - either hunting humans or trying to learn more about them so she can blend in even better. She just kinda does it all so much better than Grian can, lol.
Scar: little freak of a man. He and Cub walked into a wormhole and came back Weird. Mumbo thinks Scar is dead because Grian can mimic his screams and Outsiders only tend to do that with dead people (because copying someone who is still alive is... kind of pointless). Scar and Mumbo were coworkers, and Scar sees Mumbo as a friend, but Mumbo is too much of a lonely little loser to realise he has friends. Anyway, Scar's genetic information got all shuffled about in that wormhole and now he's unusual. A bit vex-y. He might have a hunger for human flesh--
Who breaks first? Ermmmm. So I talked to Ange about this and... neither of us can actually remember. BUT I believe Mumbo breaks down about The Apocalypse and also Grian attacking him that one time. And. Stuff. Which causes Grian to push himself to look and act more human - which hurts him and eventually leads him to break down too, stealing Mumbo's crying sounds because he doesn't know how else to express his sorrow.
Grian abandons Mumbo because he doesn't want to scare him anymore, and he has a big breakdown in the middle of the woods alone, letting himself get hurt by other monsters. But eventually he returns to Mumbo when Mumbo is attacked by yet another monster. Pearl is properly introduced and is So Mad About These Idiots. But sees how much Grian cares and tries to get them to make up.
They try to reconcile but Mumbo eventually leaves in search of other humans - he can't just be around a monster forever. This is where he finds Xisuma and other survivors. Grian follows him. Eventually Mumbo finds Grian again and suggests they go to the suvivor's place together, with Grian disguised as a human. (Mumbo still doesn't really comprehend how much that Hurts Grian, but Grian complies anyway). And nothing bad happens (lie).
ANYWAY. THIS AU HAS A STONE GRIP ON ME AND ANGE. IT LIVES IN OUR HEADS RENT FREE.

GAYEST ARTHURIAN TEXT BRACKET ROUND 1:
propaganda:
Le Morte:
- “Perhaps not the most obviously gay text out there but has some underrated moments. 'Everyone is in love with Lancelot', 'hoole book' edition, where this time the author is too! But more specifically, Lavayne. My guy sees his sister literally prepared to die of love for Lancelot and says 'yah same'. Luckily for him he is a MAN so he can just hop on a horse and follow him. Sorry Elaine. Specific quote: 'She doth as I do: for sythen I saw first my Lorde Sir Lancelot, I cowde never departe frome hym, nother nought I will and I may follow hym.', ”
-
Tumblr media
- also gawains entire final letter written in his own blood hello??? hello??? «  I, Sir Gawaine, knight of the Table Round, sought my death, and not through thy deserving, but it was mine own seeking; wherefore I beseech thee, Sir Launcelot, to return again unto this realm, and see my tomb, and pray some prayer more or less for my soul. And this same day that I wrote this cedle, I was hurt to the death in the same wound, the which I had of thy hand, Sir Launcelot; for of a more nobler man might I not be slain. Also Sir Launcelot, for all the love that ever was betwixt us, make no tarrying, but come over the sea in all haste » hello???
- also of course the greater cornwall polycule (tristan dinadan palamedes isolde lamorak lancelot brangaine isolde 2 etc etc)
- the whole ill made knight ill starred knight thing is so queer like thats so insanely transgender
SGATGK:
- “kissing”
-“Gawain getting kisses from Bertilak’s wife and kissing Bertilak is very bi”
- “I'm back with another answer.
- “i'm going to kill myself i had a few paragraphs of propaganda typed up and accodentally deleted it all. holy ahit. anyways i have no doubt that this has been submitted before but it is my moral duty to say so again. even excluding the fact that lord bertilak sets up this game of exchange of winnings and sends his wife to seduce gawaine—knowing that gawaine will have to return whatever he recieved unto bertilak—and their kisses and embraces (which are technically 'excusable' under medieval homosocial behaviour), there's a sort of erotic fascination with the green knight everpresent throughout the text, the author, the pearl poet, even taking, what, five (? give or take a few. my memory fails me) verses to describe how green and big and beautiful the green knight is. the green knight kneels before gawaine, letting gawaine take the blow to cut off his head, and later, the green knoght takes a blow to cut off gawaine's head. it's all about reciprocity and exchanges and submission. it's SO erotic . i just. yeah :)”
- ill also say the way gawain is framed in parallel to the lords hunting scenes making him a pursued animal and the wife the pursuer who has him at her mercy is very interesting gender dynamics and role reversal

an ideal date
The people are yelling, copycats of her beloved and crude. Nothing like them, nothing like the real thing. Imitating both her beloved and their group, but inferior to both. Not worth her time. She ignores the screaming, ignores the pleas. People in pain are everywhere. That never changed from the start. She, chosen and holy for it, could only shake her head in disgust and a little pity. She ignores their cries, clutching her phone as she turned up her headphones. (Blocking out them begging for help like they ignored her.) Junko’s voice, bright and peppy and out of place, comes through like music on the other side. “Mikan-senpai, Mikan-senpai, aren’t you excited?!” They squealed, and Mikan smiled fondly. “Of course,” she murmured into her headphone’s subpar mic. “I’m with you, after all.” - Mikan and Junko hunt down her past bullies. [Dangan WLWeek day 5: The Tragedy/Ship With A Trans Headcanon.]
Junkan for day 5 of @danggirlronpa 's WLWeek! This is actually an idea I've had for a long time- Junkan hunting down Mikan's past bullies. I originally wanted to write it for my BNHA/DR crossover (with Izuku tagging along), buuut I don't think it'll work for the already established timeline of that work, so I had to scrap the idea. Still! I was super fond of the idea of it, that when I saw the prompt "Tragedy", my mind immediately went to that. This is Junkan, so they are an unhealthy relationship in this, BUT they're also very sappy and cute, in a morbid way- so I think people who like fluffy Junkan might like this one too, along with people who like the more toxic yuri aspect. It is ultimately unhealthy, because Junko is encouraging Mikan to be her worst self, buuuut there's definitely moments in it that I go, "oh, that's sweet". It has layers! Is what I'm saying! Sometimes what makes toxic relationships so hard to get out of is that they have moments of tenderness and genuine love.
This one is also, obviously, a no brainwashing video AU. I leave Chiaki's fate ambiguous; whether she's dead, never existed as human Chiaki, or is a Remnant that will eventually betray them isn't... known in this. I feel like any could be applicable, so go crazy with whatever interpretation you want. I don't go into detail how Mikan became a despair, either, just that it's not through brainwashing. I also mention that she knew about Yasuke- in my head, she had him kinda had a Greg and Pearl (from Steven Universe) dynamic. Which she thinks she's "won", as Yasuke was killed by Junko.
As for Junko, they're nonbinary in this- I'd say close to a demigirl, though she's never defined it. They use she/they pronouns and feminine terms such as "girlfriend". I explain it a bit in my notes. If she doesn't read as feminine aligned enough, I will be willing to edit it to make this more clear.
Also- there's no actual graphic torture in this. Because. I didn't want to write that for a fun ship week. And that would also involve a lot of OCs to fill out Mikan's bullies. It's more of a lead up to Mikan finding her past bullies than her actually confronting them. So, if you're faint of heart, you'll still probably be fine with this one as it's mainly implication.
Over all, this is my favorite of what I've written for this week (with my first day nanamiki one being my second favorite). It has a concept I've been wanting to do for ages, mentions of Yasuke and Mikan knowing each other (which I eat up), and has nonbinary Junko, a headcanon I love. I also think the Junkan has a nice mix of being both disturbing and cute. So, if you're going to read any of what I've written for this week, I definitely recommend this one!

November has been a really great month, reading-wise. I've finished 16 books this month (though, to be fair, a few of them were not started in November and several were very short!)
Finished
The Haunting of Alejandra - V. Castro 4/5 ⭐️
Electric Idol - Katee Robert 3.5/5 ⭐️
Learn My Lesson - Katee Robert 5/5 ⭐️
A Worthy Opponent - Katee Robert 4/5 ⭐️
Death Between the Pages - Peggy Jaeger 3.5/5 ⭐️
The Hellbound Heart - Clive Barker 3/5⭐️
My Darling Dreadful Thing - Johanna van Veen 5/5⭐️
Requiem for a Memory - Saige Denmark 2.5/5⭐️
Hunt on Dark Waters - Katee Robert 3/5⭐️
The Haunting of Hill House - Shirley Jackson 4/5⭐️
Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke - Eric LaRocca 2/5 ⭐️
Camp Damascus - Chuck Tingle 4/5⭐️
When I Arrived at the Castle - Emily Carroll 4/5⭐️
From the Belly - Emmett Nahil 5/5⭐️
Hexis - Charlene Elsby 3/5⭐️
Hampton Heights: One Harrowing Night in the Most Haunted Neighborhood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Dan Kois 4/5⭐️ (This was sort of a book of short stories and would've been a solid 3/5 but one of the stories gave it another full star!)
How to Sell a Haunted House - Grady Hendrix 5/5⭐️
Incidents Around the House - Josh Malerman 5/5⭐️
The Mary Shelley Club - Goldy Moldavsky 4/5⭐️ (Could have used another edit, basically the first half of the book was setup, but holy shit it had a GREAT ending.)
My Best Friend's Exorcism - Grady Hendrix 4/5⭐️
A House at the Bottom of a Lake - Josh Malerman 4/5⭐️
We Used to Live Here - Marcus Kliewer 4/5⭐️
Horror Movie - Paul Tremblay 4/5⭐️
Pearl - Josh Malerman 3/5⭐️
Home is Where the Bodies Are - Jeneva Rose 3/5⭐️ This is like, a high 3 but not quite high enough for me to just round it up to a 4. There were bits that didn't and still don't make sense but it was still a good story.
A Dowry of Blood - S.T. Gibson 3/5⭐️ - Man I really really wanted to love this one and I just did not. It was Fine. I honestly think it would make a better movie than it made a book.
The Salt Grows Heavy - Cassandra Khaw - 2/5⭐️ -- Another one I wanted to love. I ate Nothing But Blackened Teeth up and have re-listened to it because it's so well done. This book was less than 100 pages and it took me over six months to read. I tried the audiobook, I tried the physical book, and this was just. Not a book that I enjoyed. It felt like a chore, but I made myself finish it.
Someone You Can Build a Nest In - John Wiswell 4/5⭐️ -- Very cozy, very sweet. This was recommended to me by someone recommending horror but this was honestly more fantasy than horror, it felt very D&D. I don't normally reach for fantasy but I'm glad I read this one.
Graveyard Shift - M.L. Rio 4/5⭐️
20th Century Ghosts - Joe Hill 4/5⭐️ -- Man there were a couple of stories in here that were so good. I wanted to give a book of short stories all written by the same author a chance and I'm glad I did. Pop Art and The Cape were both so fucking good and in entirely different ways.
You Like It Darker - Stephen King 4/5⭐️
Maus - Art Spiegelman
Maus II - Art Spiegelman - I honestly do not know how to rate these books. I rate based on how much I enjoyed the story, and I did not enjoy these at all but I don't think we're meant to? Like it's a horrific story but this was a great medium for telling it. It feels weird saying it made it more palatable when it was still so fucking horrifying, but it kind of did just that.
Red, White, and Royal Blue - Casey McQuiston 5/5⭐️ -- I had a tough time getting through this because we read it for book club during an election season. I didn't let that color how I felt about the book, though. I enjoyed this one so fucking much. Like the BANTER, my lord. So fucking good.
Wild Spaces - S.L. Coney 3/5⭐️
Coup de Grâce - Sofia Ajram 4/5⭐️
Gwendy's Button Box - Richard Chizmar, Stephen King 4/5⭐️
Gwendy's Magic Feather - Richard Chizmar 3/5⭐️
Gwendy's Final Task - Richard Chizmar, Stephen King 4/5⭐️
Penpal - Dathan Auerback 5/5⭐️ -- Goddamn. Just. Goddamn. It's been two days and I'm still thinking about this one.
Diavola - Jennifer Thorne 5/5⭐️
Currently reading
Season of Love - Helena Greer
Monstrilio - Gerardo Smano Córdova
Upcoming TBR
We Came to Welcome You - Vincent Tirado
Delicate Condition - Danielle Valentine (I'm going to start one of these today probably but I'm not sure which!)
Intercepts - TJ Payne
DNFs of the year (I've removed anything that I had on here that I am actually going to try to tackle again!)
Wrong Place, Wrong Time - Gillian McAllister -- Another one that I wanted to love but after getting roughly half-way through the book I just. Did not care. At all.

Hi,hello! Not sure if you remember me, but I'd submitted some asks and brought up discussion topics in this blog way back then! I'm back from the dead after an exasperatingly long school year and some other daunting crap!Hope you're doing fantastic!🧡❤️💜💖
I saw that thread of beyonce's beautiful pink gown and thought about how I would've designed a dress for persephone's wedding . I did some digging and found a drawing I'd painted earlier this year inspired by lore olympus and RS's long- discontinued gothic-neovictorian comic "the doctor foxglove show".
Tumblr media
The flowers are asphodels to represent persephone and I feel like the gothic traditional regal vibe would fit her nicely.
I also have other ideas that unfortunately I'm not gonna translate into drawings anytime soon 'cause of a bunch of other stuff I'm busy with
So I'm afraid you're gonna have to use your imagination. The wedding dress doesn't have to be white( how they made demeter "force" perse's dress to be white to further antagonize her and STILL ended up drawing persephone in a white dress anyway is still beyond me tbh )her symbols could beautifully be incorporated into her dress .
Exhibit 1:a "portrait of madame x" black outfit with a bat wing-like two part cape(her sacred animal:bat) that is bejeweled with black pearls and diamonds and smokey quartz ,the tiara in that portrait is a reference to diana the roman goddess of the hunt AKA artemis,so it could be a nice tribute to her friendship with artemis in the comic .
exhibit 2: a fully bejeweled gown made out of her symbolic gem stones:Lepidolite, Rhodochrosite and Smoky Quartz, signifying her marriage to the god of wealth(I know she's meant to be anti -capitalist but the comic doesn't follow through with it so ...)the sleeves or other parts (like dress layers)could take the shape of the flower petals of asphodel or Narcissus. Maybe a jewel faux- lily crown too. Along with rubies and spinels to form the shape of pomegranates all over the whole fit.
Exhibit 3:an elegant coat-like dress made out of deer (her own sacred animal)and black ram (hades')and fur . It would be a good nod to the fur coat hades gifted her in S1 and the underworld is cold too so why not(holy ginger snaps I just realized how impractical her official queen outfit is! Like we've been told in that episoide that underworld is cold and yet persephone's dress is sleeveless!girlie's freezing!) Also pearl/alabaster-made faux deer horns could be sprouting from her back like wings
Exhibit 4:a feathery dress as a tribute to her sacred animal:parrots most of the dress could be a nice shade of green with some red and yellow feathers which would be common colors for a parrot and also the color of the bridal dresses for ancient greek and roman noblewomen .
Exhibit 5:Like I said red and yellow /gold were bridal dress colours for greeks and romans, what other things are red and yellow?!wheats and tulips! Demeter's symbols!this could've very well been a sweet tribute from daughter to mother ! Imagine a multi -layered flower gown with deep scarlet and black petal-shaped fabrics to look like tulips and a multi-layered veil to match!!! And then imagine golden embroidered threads in the shape of wheat branches and golden wheat shaped necklace and earrings too! And an emerald ,olivine and topaz choker in the shape of a gecko(demeter's sacred animal)
Of course one could also go ham and just combine all these ideas together and make a maximalistic, artsy, chaoticly gorgeous outfit.I personally like it because it could be a symbol of how playful and fun spring is but also how unpredictable and strange death is!I feel like if rachel took her time and didn't rush things she could give us something extraordinary!!!!!!
As always I hope this ask finds you in good health! Bye bye🌹☘️💖💜🎀💚🌺🌸❤️💕🧡👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
I remember you! I’m so glad to have you back! Your design is so beautiful by the way and honestly it’s very easy on the eyes too! I could see Persephone wearing something like that and also I’m honestly gushing about all of your exhibits because they’re so sweet and I absolutely love the detail you put in them. The tributes would’ve made the dress not only memorable but also very impactful to her character since Persephone was always supposed to be a more family oriented person (at least in season one when was characterized to be most comfortable with physical touch and around people) and it really would’ve showed us how strong her relationships have become over the past seasons, her friends are really just accessories at this point and they’re only brought up when it’s convenient. Hell even some signifying detail about Hades’ details would’ve been romantic like if they both wore parts of each other’s sacred animals or something like you incorporated, Hades never wears anything to represent Persephone and yet Persephone is supposed to be the one wearing dark colors now it’s just so one sided honestly.
But enough rambling, this was honestly such a sweet ask and I absolutely loved going through all of your ideas! They were genuinely so sweet and I hope everything is going great for you! <3
