One Dress a Day Challenge
June: Weddings
Jodhaa Akbar / Aishwarya Rai as Princess Jodhaa and Hrithik Roshan as Emperor Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar
Time for some gorgeous costumes from two of my "comfort characters"!
As far as I can tell, they go through both a Hindu wedding ceremony and a Muslim one. I assume the mask of flowers and beads that the emperor wears is a traditional thing, although I wasn't able to find much information about it--partly because I don't know what it's called. Can anyone tell me more? (ETA: Thank you, @celestesinsight, for letting me know that it's called a shehra!)
It's hard to say which outfit is more lavish, although Jodhaa clearly wins in the jewelry department. She even has ankle bracelets and toe rings! Her fingers and feet are dyed with a red substance called alta.
P.S. The movie is back on Netflix, yay!

Night Changes
(Based on a request sent by @moonymeloncholymoney, I accidentally deleted your request but hopefully I remembered your username so here it is. I have tried to come up with something. I hope it's worthy. Feel free to request next time if you have any other scenario. Love you <3)
CONTENT WARNING - Proceed with caution: this story contains excessive fluff, nostalgia, Sirius being his usual dramatic self, James developing a questionable man-crush on Hrithik Roshan, and Peter quietly wondering if everyone’s lost their minds. Oh, and Remus Lupin? He’s here to single-handedly raise your standards for boyfriends. ,and possibly a bit too much snark—don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Summary - Remus Lupin has his own ways of making you feel why exactly you choose him. When You started missing your childhood, he knew exactly what to do.
────୨ৎ────
The library was quiet, the air thick with the familiar scent of old parchment and ink. The glow of candlelight flickered gently across the room, casting soft shadows that danced on the wooden tables. Remus sat across from you, his chair slightly angled as though he couldn’t quite bring himself to fully focus on his book.
His gaze kept flickering up, catching the way your brows furrowed slightly as you stared at the pages before you. You hadn’t turned a single page in nearly ten minutes, and the way you were gripping your quill—so tightly it looked like it might snap—was enough to make him sigh softly.
“Alright, that’s it,” he said, closing his book with a decisive thud. The sound made you jump slightly, your eyes darting up to meet his. “What’s going on?”
“What do you mean?” you asked, tilting your head just enough to seem casual. But the way your eyes shifted away from his gave you away entirely.
“You’ve been quiet lately,” he said gently, leaning forward so that his forearms rested on the table. His voice was soft, his concern evident in every syllable. “Sad, even. And before you say you’re fine—”
“I am fine,” you interrupted quickly, plastering a smile on your face that didn’t quite reach your eyes.
Remus stared at you for a moment, his honey-brown eyes scanning your face as though searching for the crack in your facade. He let out a soft hum, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms.
“Alright,” he said simply, though his tone was far from convinced. “If you’re fine, then I suppose that’s the end of it.”
You nodded, relieved that he wasn’t pushing further. But the way his gaze lingered on you, thoughtful and almost calculating, sent a small pang of guilt through your chest.
────୨ৎ────
Two days later, the guilt had turned into something heavier. Remus wasn’t one to pry unnecessarily, but his worry for you was becoming more evident. The way he’d gently squeeze your hand when passing in the halls, the soft but concerned “Are you alright, love?” he’d murmur when you seemed particularly distant.
You wanted to tell him you were fine. You wanted to be fine.
But that evening, as the two of you sat together in his dorm, the familiar warmth of the fire casting a golden glow across his features, Remus finally pressed again.
“Alright, sweetheart,” he murmured, his voice breaking the comfortable silence that had settled between you. “We’re not doing this anymore.”
You blinked, glancing up from where you’d been idly fiddling with the hem of your jumper. “Doing what?”
“This,” he said softly, gesturing toward you. “You pretend you’re alright when you’re not. I know you, baby. And I know something’s been eating at you.”
You opened your mouth to protest, but before you could speak, Remus leaned forward, cupping your face gently with one hand. His thumb brushed against your cheek as his lips pressed softly to your forehead.
“I know you’re not, baby,” he whispered, his breath warm against your skin. “So please, tell me what’s wrong.”
The tenderness in his voice unraveled you. The walls you’d been so carefully holding up crumbled, and before you knew it, the words were spilling out.
“I miss my family,” you admitted, your voice shaky. You hesitated, glancing away as tears pricked at the corners of your eyes. But Remus’s hand on your cheek kept you grounded, his thumb tracing soothing circles against your skin.
“I miss… my cousins, my siblings. We used to live together—a big, noisy, chaotic house. We’d stay up all night watching movies, all four of us crammed into the smallest room because it felt cozier that way. There’d be snacks everywhere, arguments over who got the biggest share, and ridiculous fights about which movie to watch next.”
You let out a soft, tearful laugh, the memories vivid in your mind. “It was always so silly, but it was ours. And now… one of them is getting married. It feels like everything’s changing so fast. We grew up too quickly, you know? I just… I just want to go back. Back to when I was that little six-year-old with pigtails, running around the house with my cousins, no worries, no responsibilities. Just… us.”
Your voice broke slightly, and you felt a tear escape, sliding down your cheek. You quickly swiped at it, forcing a smile even as more tears threatened to fall.
“I’m sorry for being like this,” you said, your voice barely above a whisper. “For… I don’t know. Being stuck in the past, I guess.”
Remus’s hand shifted, both of them now holding your face as he leaned forward, his gaze steady and filled with so much love it made your chest ache.
“Stop that,” he said firmly, though his tone was still impossibly gentle. “You have nothing to apologize for. Missing the people you love? Wishing you could hold onto those moments a little longer? That’s not silly—it’s beautiful. It just shows how much you care.”
He leaned in, pressing another kiss to your forehead, lingering for a moment before pulling back slightly.
“And for the record,” he said, a lopsided grin tugging at his lips, “if you ever want to relive the chaos of fighting over snacks and watching movies, I am more than willing to argue with you over popcorn. And more than willing to make everything go away from your mind. You know what I mean” He smirks and raises his eyebrows.
You let out a watery laugh, the sound bubbling up from somewhere deep in your chest. “You’re ridiculous.”
“And you love it,” he shot back with a wink, earning another laugh from you.
The warmth of his words, his presence, and the sheer sincerity in his eyes melted away the ache that had been weighing on you for days. You felt lighter, like a piece of your heart had finally found its way home.
As you rested your head against his chest, his arms wrapping securely around you, you couldn’t help but smile.
And in that moment, Remus knew exactly what to do.
────୨ৎ────
The week that followed felt like a blur of passing days and stolen glances. You and Remus barely crossed paths, caught in the whirlpool of schoolwork, house duties, and, in his case, whatever the Marauders were plotting. You’d see him occasionally in the Great Hall, his head bent low as James leaned in to whisper something conspiratorial, both of them bursting into laughter moments later. You two used to sit together but you thought maybe he needs some time so you sit with your group.
At first, it didn’t bother you. Remus could be consumed by his friends and their antics now and then—that was just part of who he was, and you adored that about him. But as the days stretched into a week, a small pit of unease settled in your stomach. He hadn’t even paused to sit with you under the usual tree in the courtyard, where the two of you would talk about everything and nothing while the hours melted away.
Still, you shrugged it off, convincing yourself that the Marauders were probably up to their usual mischief. Maybe planning an elaborate prank that required all hands on deck. You tried not to take it personally, even though a part of you missed the quiet comfort of his company.
The afternoon sun filtered through the canopy of leaves above you, casting soft dappled light over the page of the book in your lap. You were perched against your favorite tree on the edge of the courtyard, the rough bark pressing lightly against your back. The air was warm, carrying the faint scent of freshly cut grass, and a gentle breeze ruffled the hem of your robes.
You had just turned a page in your book when you heard the unmistakable sound of hurried footsteps on the stone pathway. You looked up, your brow furrowing as Peter Pettigrew skidded to a stop a few feet in front of you, his round face flushed and slightly out of breath.
“Hey!” he panted, doubling over with his hands on his knees for a moment before straightening up.
“Peter?” you said, blinking at him. “What’s going on?”
Peter fumbled with something in his hands, and you realized it was an invisibility cloak. He thrust it toward you without preamble, the fabric spilling over his arms like liquid silver.
“Remus wants to see you,” he said quickly, glancing around as if checking for eavesdroppers.
Your heart skipped a beat at his words, a mixture of relief and curiosity flooding through you. “Oh, okay. When?”
“Tonight,” Peter replied, his tone clipped and hurried. “In his dorm.”
“Wait, what—” you started, standing up and brushing bits of grass off your robes. “Why couldn’t he just tell me himself? And why the cloak?”
But before you could get another word out, Peter had already turned on his heel. “Just—just go, alright?” he called over his shoulder, already jogging away toward the castle.
“Peter, wait!” you called after him, but he didn’t stop.
You stood there for a moment, the invisibility cloak draped over your arms and a puzzled frown on your face. The whole interaction felt... odd. Remus wasn’t the type to send messages through someone else. If he wanted to see you, he usually found you himself, his calm and steady presence impossible to ignore.
Still, the thought of seeing him after a week apart made your chest flutter with anticipation. Shaking your head to clear your doubts, you sat back down, folding the cloak neatly and placing it beside you.
You glanced down at your book, the words blurring together as your thoughts drifted to the evening ahead. What could he want to talk about? Was something wrong? Or maybe this was just his way of making up for the week of silence.
A soft smile tugged at your lips as you closed the book, tucking it under your arm. Focus, you told yourself. If Remus wanted to make a big deal of this, then the least you could do was meet the occasion.
Your mind wandered to your wardrobe, mentally sifting through options. Something casual, but not too casual—after all, this was Remus. Maybe the soft sweater he always said looked nice on you, paired with—
You shook your head again, laughing softly at yourself. “It’s just Remus,” you murmured under your breath, though the way your heart raced at the thought of him made you think otherwise.
The biting chill of the winter night crept into the castle, its icy fingers weaving through the drafty corridors and sneaking under doors. It was the kind of cold that seeped into your bones, no matter how many layers you wore. You’d bundled up as best you could—an oversized hoodie that practically swallowed you whole, paired with your fluffiest pajama bottoms, patterned with tiny stars that shimmered faintly in the low light of your dorm.
A woolen cap covered your head, its edges tugged down snugly over your ears to stave off the cold. You wrapped your favorite muffler around your neck, the soft fabric brushing against your nose, which, predictably, had started running again. Winters always did this to you—your nose would run, your cheeks would flush, and the occasional sneeze would sneak up on you at the worst times.
You sniffled, frowning slightly as you pulled the invisibility cloak over your head. The fabric settled around you like water, rendering you invisible to the world. It felt strange, sneaking out of your room like this, but the note of urgency in Peter’s earlier message had left you little choice.
You crept through the dormitory with practiced ease, careful to avoid the creaky floorboards that always threatened to give you away. The common room was empty, save for the dying embers in the fireplace casting a faint, flickering glow across the room. The cloak swirled around you as you moved, the silence of the castle amplifying the soft sound of your footsteps against the cold stone floor.
The chill grew sharper as you climbed the stairs to the Marauders’ shared room, your muffler pulled up to cover your nose. You paused outside their door, hesitating for a moment as your breath fogged the air in front of you.
Knocking softly, you waited, half expecting to hear Sirius’s teasing voice or James’s overly enthusiastic greeting. But the door remained stubbornly closed, the silence on the other side thick and unyielding.
You knocked again, a little louder this time, but still nothing. Your brows furrowed as you shifted on your feet, the weight of the cloak suddenly feeling heavier.
“Okay, then,” you muttered under your breath, your fingers curling around the cold metal handle. With a quiet click, you pushed the door open.
The sight that greeted you stopped you in your tracks.
The usually chaotic room had been transformed into something entirely unexpected. A bed near the far corner of the room was covered in a soft blanket of fairy lights, their warm glow casting an ethereal shimmer over the dark wood. The lights weren’t just draped haphazardly—they were carefully arranged, framing the bed like a halo and weaving through the posts in delicate loops.
Scattered across the blanket were a few small cushions in mismatched colors, as though someone had raided the common room for every cozy pillow they could find. A small tray sat at the foot of the bed, holding what looked like steaming mugs of hot cocoa, the faint scent of chocolate wafting through the air and mingling with the faint hint of pine that lingered in the room.
But what struck you most was the sight of the Marauders themselves. All four of them stood near the bed, their expressions a mix of nervous anticipation and barely contained excitement. Sirius was the first to notice you, his face lighting up with that unmistakable mischievous grin as he elbowed James in the ribs.
“Look who’s here,” Sirius drawled, his voice dripping with exaggerated nonchalance.
James turned toward you with a wide smile, his arms crossed as though he were trying to play it cool. “Took you long enough,” he teased, though the glint in his eyes betrayed his amusement.
Peter waved awkwardly, his round face flushed with what looked like a mixture of pride and embarrassment. And then there was Remus, standing slightly off to the side, his hands tucked into the pockets of his jumper. His gaze was steady, his warm eyes locking onto yours the moment you stepped inside.
You tore your gaze away from them for a moment, your eyes landing on the centerpiece of the room—a muggle laptop perched precariously on a makeshift stand made of stacked textbooks. The screen was frozen on a scene from a movie you’d recognize anywhere, no matter how many years passed.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.
Your stomach flipped at the sight, your heart caught somewhere between nostalgia and confusion. It was a movie you’d seen more times than you could count, a staple of your childhood that you’d practically memorized. But seeing it here, in the middle of the Marauders’ dorm room, surrounded by fairy lights and cocoa and the faces of your friends, felt... surreal.
You looked back at Remus, your brows furrowing slightly as you tilted your head in question. “What...?” you began, your voice trailing off as a soft smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
But he didn’t answer, not yet. Instead, he took a step closer, his expression calm and steady as the others watched silently, a knowing spark in their eyes.
And though the question lingered on your lips, you felt the flicker of something warm settle in your chest.
────୨ৎ────
Remus stepped forward, the soft glow of the fairy lights casting golden highlights across his sharp cheekbones and kind eyes. His gaze never wavered as he closed the small distance between you, the familiar warmth of his presence enveloping you like a favorite blanket
Slowly, his hand came up to cup your cheek, his fingers warm against your slightly chilled skin. His thumb brushed over your cheekbone in a tender, absentminded motion, and you saw the faintest flicker of nerves in his expression—like he wasn’t sure if this was enough, if this would ever be enough to convey how much he cared.
“You missed these moments,” he began softly, his voice barely louder than a whisper. The sincerity in his tone made your heart clench. “So I tried to bring those moments to you. I know it’s not perfect. It’s probably not even close to what you wanted, but...” He paused, the corners of his mouth twitching in a faint, almost shy smile. “Even if it makes you feel nice for just a second, I’ll feel blessed.”
You felt the familiar sting of tears welling up in your eyes, but this time, they weren’t born of sadness. Happiness and love bubbled up inside you, threatening to spill over as you stared at the boy who always seemed to know exactly what you needed, even when you couldn’t say it yourself.
Without thinking, you leaned in, pressing your lips to his in a kiss that was equal parts gratitude and affection. His hand slid from your cheek to the back of your neck, holding you gently as though he was afraid you’d slip away.
The sound of exaggerated gagging shattered the moment, and you broke apart just in time to see Sirius dramatically clutching his chest. “Oh, Merlin, they’re doing that again,” he groaned, his voice dripping with mock horror. He pointed a finger at you, And naked his head “One night. One night I want without seeing you two snog. One night. Give me a break.”
You rolled your eyes, though you couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled up as you glanced back at Remus. His lips were quirked into a wry smile, his hand still resting lightly on your arm.
“Should we stop?” you asked, your voice teasing.
“Definitely not,” Remus replied without hesitation, earning another groan from Sirius.
Eventually, the two of you pulled away and joined the others on the bed, settling into the cozy pile of blankets and cushions. The muggle laptop still displayed the paused frame of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and you felt a warm pang of nostalgia as you looked at it.
“We charmed it,” James explained, patting the laptop proudly. “It’ll play in Hindi for you and in English for us. You know, so we can all follow along.”
“That’s... actually brilliant,” you admitted, a little surprised.
“Thank you,” James said, puffing out his chest. “I am a genius.”
Remus snorted. “You didn’t do the charm, James. I did.”
“Well, I supervised,” James shot back, grinning.
As the movie began to play, you quickly found yourself lost in its familiar rhythms. The opening scenes felt like slipping into a favorite memory, and despite the occasional interruptions from the boys, you couldn’t stop smiling.
“Wait, wait,” James interrupted during one scene, leaning forward with wide eyes. “Who’s this guy? The one with the... the abs?”
You stifled a laugh. “That’s Hrithik Roshan,” you said, the name rolling off your tongue like second nature.
James whistled low, nudging Sirius. “Look at that guy! I mean, come on. Those arms are unreal.”
“Oh, please,” Sirius scoffed, tossing a pillow in James’s direction. “I could pull that off if I wanted to.”
“Sure you could,” you teased, raising an eyebrow at him. “But Hrithik Roshan isn’t just about the abs, you know. He’s got moves.”
You laughed, the sound bubbling out of you unbidden. “He is ridiculously handsome,” you admitted, and immediately regretted it when three heads turned to look at you in mock scandal.
“Wait, wait,” Sirius said, holding up a hand. “You’re saying you had a crush on him? And you never told us?”
“Not just Hrithik,” you added, a mischievous glint in your eye. “Shah Rukh Khan too. I mean he is just too much, His dimples are also very cute. I had a crush on him since I was 10 or 11 years old.”
Remus’s jaw dropped in exaggerated offense, and he clutched his chest as though you’d physically wounded him. “You mean to tell me I have competition?”
“Oh, loads of it,” you teased, grinning at him. “Better step up your game, Lupin.”
The others roared with laughter, Sirius wiping a fake tear from his eye. “Don’t worry, Moony,” he said, slapping Remus on the back. “You’ve got something those blokes never will—an unhealthy obsession with books and chocolate.”
Remus rolled his eyes, but you could see the corner of his mouth twitching as he fought back a smile.
The rest of the movie was filled with moments like that—Sirius and James bombarding you with dumb questions about the plot, Peter’s wide-eyed fascination with the lavish sets, and Remus quietly pointing out every little detail he noticed, his whispered observations making you smile even more.
When the emotional scenes played, you caught Remus sneaking glances at you, his hand brushing against yours under the blanket. And when the iconic songs began, Sirius couldn’t resist attempting to mimic the choreography, earning loud protests from James about blocking the screen.
By the time the credits rolled, your cheeks hurt from smiling so much, and the room was filled with the warm hum of shared laughter.
And as you leaned back against Remus’s chest, his arms wrapping snugly around you, you couldn’t help but think that this—this messy, chaotic, and utterly perfect night—was exactly what you needed.

Dick Grayson x South Asian!Reader HCs
requested | reader is fem; like with Jason's hc post, I tried to keep it non-specific to any country, hope i achieved that😬
also it's barely mentioned but as a special treat: reader is trained in Indian classical dance😏😏😏
batboys x south asian!reader masterlist
He loves watching Bollywood movies, but gets especially into the music…like really into it
This man becomes OBSESSED with Shreya Goshal; you come early one night to find him singing along to both parts of the duet Manwa Laage from Happy New Year while doing the dishes (which, if you don't know, is a very high-pitched song). He's so off-key but so into it you don't have the heart to tell him that your neighbors texted you to ask if a feral cat got loose in your apartment💀
Then it escalates— he tries to learn Hrithik Roshan’s dance from Dhoom Again (which has nothing to do with the fact that you told him Hrithik Roshan was your childhood crush)
(if ur not desi, it starts at timestamp 0:38 I highly recommend watching it for full context it's incredible— if you are then I know you already know what i'm talking about LMAOO)
And since you're a dancer you learn it with him but he’s genuinely upset that it’s so easy for you but so hard for him
"I should be getting this! Do you know how bendy my body is?!"
For some reason I feel like he would love the strong female lead-type movies (probably because he’s so eldest daughter coded) so movies like Queen, Dangal, Chak De India, that’s his jam, but he loves Kal Ho Naa Ho when he needs a good cry
If you’ve ever seen those tiktoks of families who dress up their dogs and cats in traditional wear…you’re doing that with Haley 100%
I think Dick is familiar with hair oiling because of his Romani background, but doesn’t start doing it until you guys are dating because you do it regularly so he just starts joining you
OR he does do it, but…badly. with one of those over-priced chemical-filled Sephora brands, and he doesn’t even apply it correctly. The first time you see him do it you’re legitimately offended. You spend the entire afternoon teaching him the right way, first taking him to the Indian market (they’re in new jersey so you know there’s plenty💀) and collecting all the ingredients and explaining the benefit of each one, then going back to his place and showing him how to properly toast the herbs and spices and then warm the oil with them, how to massage it all throughout his scalp and find all the pressure points.
He’s sooo attentive and genuinely interested, plus he just loves how passionate you are about this
He loves pani puri (obviously, he’s dick and they’re balls WHO SAID THAT)
But seriously, you make them and he’s just throwing them back non stop
He calls you rani (queen), meri jaan (my love), pyaari (cutie I think)
Dick learns how to drape your sari for you— he knows where all the pins go, where to make the folds and where to tuck in the fabric. He loves how happy it makes you and how you twirl in the mirror when he’s done. Once your relationship gets more serious, he loves to buy you new ones until you have all different styles for every occasion
He loves when you wear payals. You wear them once for an event, and he encourages you to wear them around the house because the sound they make when you walk is just so pretty
Another reason why he LOVES watching you dance. The ghungroos you wear make it all the more mesmerizing
Given how flexible he is from his acrobat training, he’s great at yoga. Much better than you, and you often require his help to get the positions right. He doesn’t mind, though, as long as it means he gets to have his hands on you as he guides your body into the correct stance
Of course he’s learning your language so he can communicate with your relatives. That doesn’t mean it’s easy, though
Most teaching sessions end with tears and/or yelling
“WHY ARE THERE SO MANY POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS??? WHY IS THERE ONLY ONE SPECIFIC SCENARIO FOR EACH ONE????”
“I DON’T KNOW DICK THERE JUST ARE”
In the least foot fetish-y way possible, he thinks the tradition of wearing toe rings is so attractive. When you tell him that only married women wear them, he considers proposing just for that reason (I mean he already has the ring, so what’s he waiting for?)
Speaking of marriage (😏), he’s so excited for you to get his name hidden somewhere in your mehendi/henna. When you’re getting it done, he keeps trying to peek into the room to see if he can spot it until the artist gets fed up and locks him out😭
On your wedding night the first thing he does when you get a moment alone is start searching for it
You told him about the tradition of stealing the groom's shoes beforehand. You did not, however, tell him about the bargaining portion of the tradition
So when he and his siblings are "looking" for them (come on now, they're world class detectives, but they don't want to ruin the fun) and ultimately "give up" like "okay! you got me! where are they!" and your family starts talking about a 5-figure ransom to see them again...
He's going insane trying to tell them that his father is the billionaire, not him, but your relatives could not care less. And the whole time he knows exactly where they are but he doesn't want to be that person and make all your relatives hate him😭
He manages to coax them down to 4-figures
He wanted 3, but after your youngest cousin read him to filth ("Oh the trust fund nepo-baby can't spare some change? Is this the kind of husband you are? Is this how you plan to support your wife?"), he had no choice
You KNOW he’s doing a dance number at the reception. Bonus points if it's the Dhoom Again dance
And of course he wants you two to do a number together. When he tells you as much, he thinks it'll be fun and silly and a way to spend time together— he's wrong.
Like a true Indian classical dance teacher, you are a DRILL SERGEANT. He gets transported back to his old Robin-training days, except Bruce is 8 inches shorter and wears 5 pounds of bells around his ankles. It's worth it for the end result, though.
You obviously eat him UP but he does a very good job
Which number? I'm SO glad you asked........
It's Kala Chashma
ok this really got away from me but i loved writing it. as for kala chashma i just thought it was funny😭but if you have any other songs you think would fit i would LOVE to hear

Is Armand the first ever vampire of South Asian origin in popular culture? I've certainly never come across any before this and I've been a vampire obsessed desi for the better part of two decades. I did some some poking around on Google, and really couldn't find anything (beyond this mention of a Twilight-inspired Bollywood flick starring Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif that never materialised lol)
Which just makes me so glad Rolin and co made this choice... to reimagine Armand, one of the best characters in the Vampire Chronicles as South Asian and explicitly acknowledge that origin (with 'Arun' instead of 'Andrei').
It's something I'm not sure I ever imagined I'd see in a major production of this sort in my lifetime. And we really lucked out with the actor they chose as well... Assad just came out of nowhere and embodied this character in a way that I still can't get over sometimes.
Have there been any other desi vampires that I've missed in recent years? I'd love to hear about them if I have!
#Armand#Assad Zaman#Gonna be honest here... reeeally glad that Bollywood Twilight movie never happened lol

This got long so I decided to send it in an ask.
So India has like a dozen film industries organized by language. Bollywood is the biggest and that's Hindi. There are also movies n Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam, Marathi, Kannada, Bengali, Punjabi and more. I won't go into all of them because I mostly watch movies in Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi and the occasional Telegu movie.
(super cool thing is that sometimes, there's actors who work in multiple film industries so it can be like a fun surprise when you see someone you associate with a specific language pop up somewhere else)
I tried to pick based on what you said you liked in one of the other replies. You mentioned you like musicals though so you'll be happy to know that songs are integral to Indian movies. Also these recs are a mix of personal favorites and ones I know to be popular/iconic because if it was just up to me, half of these would be thrillers, horror or crime because I think indian films do those genres really well. They also lean heavily towards romcoms.
Hindi:
Sholay (1975) This is just a classic Hindi action movie starring Amitabh Bachchan, who's possibly the biggest actor from Bollywood in the 70s and 80s Like even i've watched it and I haven't even taken the time to look through 70s Hindi movies yet.
Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) A runaway bride gets taken in by three kids and they have to hide her so their uncle who's taking care of them doesn't kick her out. The kids are so goddamn cute. This stars two very known 90s stars, Amir Khan and Juhi Chawla.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) Iconic Hindi romance starring equally iconic pair of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. Shah Rukh is by far the most popular beloved actor in Bollwood since the 90s and arguably still today. Him and Kajol were a big pair that did tons of movies together in the 90s and early 2000s. I cannot understate how popular these two are.
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) Another, arguably even more iconic Shah Rukh Kajol romance but it's a love triangle. Personally, I can't stand this movie but it's super duper popular and also features the love of my life, Rani Mukherjee as the 'it' girl Tina that Shah Rukh's character initially falls in love with.
Kabhie Kushi Kabhie Gham (2001) I'm sorry, I don't know how this ended up being all Shah Rukh Kajol movies but I needed to mention it because this is my personal favorite from this pair and in general. I also love the way this leans into the 2000s aesthetic in the second half and you're going to be baffled and amused by the character Pooja in the second half.
Devdas (2002) Devdas is an epic tragic love triangle featuring again Shah Rukh Khan but also Aishwarya Rai, one of the most influential celebrities to come out of India in the modern age and Madhuri Dixit, beloved actress and dancer from the late 80s/early 90s. The song 'Dola Re' from this movie is one of the coolest dance sequences to exist.
Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) A modern love triangle- you know, I didn't realize how many love triangles are on here but this one will make you cry. It's a romcom but I promise, the tears will come. And then you'll watch it again.
Om Shanti Om (2007) A love letter to Golden Age Bollywood, this movie is going to pack in approximately 15 references per minute, you won't understand any of them and it will still be an excellent time. At heart, this is a fantasy romance/revenge featuring reincarnation (which is a suuuper popular trope but ended up being sparse on this list). Starring Shah Rukh Khan across Deepika Padukone in her first role (they go on to be a pretty beloved pair though not as much as srk and kajol). I rewatch this 1-2 times a year.
Jodhaa Akbar (2008) Starring Aishwarya Rai again, this is a historical romantic drama set in the 1500s. I always get distracted by how beautiful the costuming in this is. You'll recognize Hrithik Roshan from Kabhie Kushi Kabhie Gham but with the ugliest mustache known to mankind.
3 Idiots (2009) is a comedy/coming-of-age about 3 college friends. Sounds basic but it's really hmm, heartfelt? Starring Amir Khan.
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) coming of age romance/drama/comedy something about a group of college friends. Stars Deepika Padukone across Ranbir Kapoor (big 2010s actor).
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavadahn (2020) first big blockbuster type movie about queer people. It made me cry, i made a gif from this my header for like over a year, it's a bit cliche but yk
Telegu
Telegu's really hit it off in the last 10 years or so but I've only a passing familiarity and I definitely can't tell you what's been popular in the last couple decades. BUT
Bahubali 1 and 2 (2015/2017) It was a cultural phenomenon when it came out, because of the effects and cinematography but also largely because of how it's one story split intentionally into two movies. That concept was unheard of in Indian film and the overwhelming success of Bahubali is directly responsible for the dozens of 2 and 3 part film series being produced today in south indian films. It's like an epic fantasy action movie(s) about- actually i'm not going to spoil the plot on this one. In simplest terms, it's about a guy learning about his dad.
RRR (2022) Not a personal favorite but it actually has a tumblr fanbase. Bromance but like two indian revolutionaries fighting against the british in pre-independence India. Really, it's very much about their friendship. Stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan, both of whom are pretty popular Telegu actors. This like Bahubali was an insanely popular hit.
Tamil (this was so hard because i like tamil movies but i don't think they're the greatest. They do however have the best love songs, hands down)
Kadhalan (1994) It's an action romance ft politics and terrorists but at heart, it's a inter-class romance about a college kid that falls in love with a politician's daughter. You may have noted by now that inter-class romances are a BIG theme in indian movies. This stars Prabhu who is still an iconic choreographer and dancer and Nagma.
Minsara Kanavu (1997) a romance Prabhu again and Kajol from all of those Hindi films. The plot is that she doesn't believe in love and wants to go become a nun and he's trying to change her mind because he's in love with her. It would've been so easy to get this film wrong but it ends up being really hard to dislike.
Anbe Sivam (2003) a slice of life about a guy who gets stranded at an airport and makes a friend. R. Madhavan, who plays the friend is the poster boy for 90s Tamil romances and is an excellent romance actor, if you're interested.
Ghilli (2004) A sports player accidentally gets involved with a gang. It's like an action romance featuring some of the most iconic actors in Tamil film, including Vijay and Trisha. I had my cousins dance to one of the songs from this at my wedding. This movie actually just reran in theaters for it's 20 year anniversary a couple months ago.
24 (2016) A guy invents a time traveling machine. I really wanted to include a movie with Suriya because he along with Vijay are like the two big stars of the Tamil Film Industry. They both have catalogs of 60+ films. And in this movie, Suriya plays a triple role.
Malayalam. This one's my native industry which somehow made it really hard to pick movies from because I mostly watch masala films or (like low-brow action comedies).
Kireedam (1989) A action/drama about a guy's downfall. Thematically, think Othello. Stars Mohanlal, the biggest actor in Mollywood and watching him in this movie will show you why.
Killukam (1991) a comedy about a girl, an illegitimate daughter of a supreme court judge, pretending to be mentally ill while searching for her father. Very of it's time but it's classic comedy. Stars Mohanlal again.
Yoddha (1992). One of the rare times that Malayalam film delves into fantasy, this is a movie about a young rural guy protecting a Nepalese kid from a murderous, supernatural cult. It's been a minute since i've watched this so I can't speak to how the cultural aspects were treated but I remember that part of this was shot in Nepal. It's also considered a cult classic. And features Mohanlal yet again.
Aaram Thampuran (1997) Another mohanlal film about a man who gets involved in a village's affairs. Stars Manju Warrior who was a known 90s actress before she got married and quit. This one's an iconic action film but I think that Mohanlal's role in this is like the template of classic Malayalam hero and says a lot about the qualities that make up a South Indian typical movie 'good guy'.
Nandanam (2002) The fact that this movie is this old makes me feel old. A slightly dramatic, mostly realistic interclass romance ft (1) god. It'll give you a fair bit of insight into Malayali culture and class prejudices. Anyway story's about a religious house-servant who falls in love with the grandson of her employer. Or really, the grandson falls in love with her. It's a personal favorite of mine and stars Navya Nair (who is soo underrated) and Prithviraj (who is not, which is to say he's hella popular and currently trying his hand at directing)
Meesa Madhavan (2002) A thief gets wrongfully accused of a crime and tries to prove his innocence ft a romance. It's classic 2000s Malayalam comedy. Features Dileep and Kavya Madhavan who were a pretty popular pair of the 2000s/2010s even and irl had an affair and he divorced his wife for her. (his wife incidentally is manju warrior who i mentioned above)
Classmates (2006) A school reunion unearths old hurts and hidden secrets. It's got everything; mystery, angst, romance, comedy, and an iconic soundtrack.
Notebook (2006) No this has nothing to do with the iconic Nicholas Sparks adaptation. It's about three college friends at an all-girls school and how they deal with one of them getting pregnant. The initial romance is SO cute. The song, one in particular is great. The execution is so-so but for a movie about teen pregnancy in 2006 Kerala, it's not bad. And I would consider it iconic.
****** manichitrathazhu (1993) It's about a couple who move into a new house and the wife gets possessed by a ghost. It's ICONIC. I didn't mention it above because it does dip into horror and you said you didn't like scary movies.
i know this might seem super large and overwhelming. I promise I did try to limit the choices a bit and was at times more or less successful. Anyways I hope it helps some.
Wow, thank you for the explanation and for the long list of recs! Love all the different language categories. Lol! I wish I liked horror movies more, especially so you could share your favs 😆. I might try Manichitrathazhu 🫣. Maybe my friend who loves horror movies will watch it with me.
I'm looking at some of these on Google, and omg, Kabhie Kushi Kabhie Gham is 3.5 hours long 😳. I'll have to settle in with a snack for that one 😆.
These all sound really good though! Thank you for taking the time to compile this list, I highly appreciate it!

To the anon, you resorted to foul language just to question my choice and ask if I have seen any actor as multi talented as Jensen. Let me tell you this I am not going to post your ask as I don't want you to give you the satisfaction of sending a hate ask. I don't know why you think doing so was great in the first place.
As far as multi talented actors are concerned, well Darling, I come from India. No slight for any countries actor or actresses, I am sure each country got their gems. since Anon asked me if I know any, I would like to say I know plenty.
In Indian film industry, acting ain't enough you need to know how to dance and singing is added bonus. Each actor knows at least 4 languages, including English. Then there are those who got added talent such as painting, cooking, musicians, badminton player. So they are not only good-looking but they are awesome actors, dancers, singers and multi linguistics. Sorry to say Jensen is nowhere near to them. Jensen doesn't have people traveling from all over the world to wish him a happy birthday at home. He is not quick-witted or charming, nor can he dance and could barely sing.
Here are some of the Indian actors for you. I am sharing two of my absolute favorites
Shah Rukh Khan - aka King Khan
This guy's duality is dangerous - There is not a single character that he hasn't played. One of the few, if not only actors whose film trailers are played on Bhuj Khalifa. Most importantly, despite being world famous, he is extremely humble. No matter how busy/ tired he is, he will make sure that he takes time out for his fans. There are fans who stand outside film studios and his house hoping to have one glimpse at him, but he, if present at home or Studio, will make sure to greet his fans without fail.
This is outside his house-
Hrithik Roshan - aka Greek God of Dance
Great actor, can dance (under statement), sing, cook, and do stunts. Another humble actor who doesn't think twice before sharing his craft. His debut film created a mania across the country. He was the only qctor who bagged all the top awards in his debut film and immediately got catapulted to A-list. He loves his fans and encourages them to follow their dream. He has funded my young talents to pursue their interest. During Covid, he donated millions of dollars to help Daily- Wage artists. He distributed masks and emergency kits to front runners. And raised 3.19 million of Covid 19 relief fund.
There are many more actors tumblr doesn't have enough space for it. I just shared two of my absolute favorites. As you can see, I gravitate towards those who are extremely humble, respectful, and giving despite being famous. I hope Anon, you understood why I don't think Jensen is a super talented actor.

Hi!
I'm literally over the moon to discover a desi ATSV writer, I saw your OC description and I was taken immediately🖤
I saw that you have nothing for Miguel so I am here for a Miguel x desi f!reader - fake dating/wedding edition.
- Miguel is invited to Pav's dimension for a wedding, he has zero clue on the wedding scene so he employed LYLA to help but she told him to ask his neighbor
- Reader isn't all that enthusiastic bc Miguel has been a jerk before, she agrees and starts with each day like Sangeet, Haldi etc. Takes Miguel Kurta shopping (yes he's in an all black one like Hrithik Roshan)
- Makes him watch K3G as part of the lessons. While throwing in how desi aunties are basically going to match make, Miguel suggests reader goes with him to this wedding as a date to "ward off aunties"
- As a brown girl it's not hard to slip into helping out at a function but since Miguel is glued to reader he's helping too now the Aunties are whipped. Ladies are swooning and reader is looking at Papi Miggy differently
- Especially after a shoe change when she took off her jhanjaras and asked him to keep it and she finds it later on his wrists.
- reader gets too close to take a look and now - those bangles are caught on his kurta. Miguel had no idea what the big deal was but he remembered the movie.
cue the drums because now
Please feel to change this request however you'd like and there's zero rush too. Your comfortability and convenience come first.
Thank you x
Hi, I'm so sorry this is taking so long to write 😭
I swear I'm in the process and it'll be done soon, I'll tag you in it I SWEARR
I did have to change a couple of the criteria cuz it was getting really long and a little confusing to write also I've never watched K3G I'm sorry but I tried to watch clips of it on YouTube
in the meanwhile have a preview <3
____________________________________________________________
"No."
"Aww, come on, don't be such a party-pooper. You'll have fun!"
Miguel squinted at his AI, an annoyed look plastered across his face. "I said no. I'm not going to a wedding, Lyla."
"You can't turn down an invitation from Pavitr! Come on, do you need me to ask him to give you the 'look' again?" Lyla asked teasingly, teleporting in front of Miguel and shoving her phone into his face, Pav's puppy-dog expression visible on the FaceTime call she had him on. "How can you say no to that face?"
"Ugh."
Miguel waved her out of his way with a grunt. "Come on uncle, I promise you'll never go to a grander wedding! These people are close friends of my auntie's and I'm telling you, they put so much effort into their parties" Pav explained, his voice emanating from the phone Lyla had refused to put down. "Its not a normal wedding. Its an Indian wedding. What would I even do there? No."
Miguel was trying to focus on the screen in front of him, tracing out the dimensional map for some new anomaly chase he'd been planning on assigning out. "Come on, I'll explain it all to you! Or even better...you could have Y/N do it" Pavitr said with a grin, tilting his head to the side as he looked at Miguel through the screen.
Miguel froze at the mention of your name, his expression softening slightly. "You invited my neighbor?" he asked Pav, an dumbstruck look on his face. "Yes. She's very nice and she told me she hasn't been to a function in a long time. Besides, Maya Auntie told me to invite all my friends." Pav responded with a sly shrug.
"Since when are the two of you friends?"
"Since I helped fix her rooftop that your battle with that anomaly ruined."
"So its settled then. Miguel, you're going, final say." Pav gave Lyla a high five through the screen.
"No-" Miguel began to argue back, but the two of them were completely convinced. He knew there would be no point in trying to turn it down at this point, as Pavitr and Lyla would most definitely succeed in forcing him to this wedding, no matter how much he objected.
You were a very out-spoken civilian who lived fairly close to the bounds of the Spider Society. Because of this, you were often affected by the fights that would happen in and out of the society, some of these leading to actual property damage. Even then, your spirts were high and you ended up getting to know a lot of the Spider-people that passed by, even becoming friends with some of them, including Pav.
As for Miguel, the two of you had a complicated relationship. Miguel tried to be nice to you but you barely tolerated him. After all, he'd built his society next to the home your family had lived in for decades. He'd actually asked you to move and even offered to relocate you but you and your family had refused. And thats when you decided that he was a jerk and that you'd try to steer away from him and his problems.
But apparently, he needed your help now.

HELLOO. i see you reblog a lot of hindi cinema!! i would love to watch more of it, what are your top 10 favorites?
🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩😍
this might be my favorite thing I've received in my inbox.
wh I well I wh how could I possibly refuse hee hee hee hee
limiting this to hindi cinema helps!! or so I thought, before I went through several rounds of intense interrogation and several scribbled pages of notes and realized this just outs me as a baby shah rukh khan stan, which I am. I resisted every impulse to try to make the list broad and varied and kept only repeating 'what are your FAVORITES, what are your FAVORITES' and even then narrowing everything down was really painful... I feel like I've watched very many but then not very many at all.
There are another half-dozen more I had to cut with great anguish (Paheli, Ram-Jaane, the Don films) OMG EDITED TO FINISH MY FRIGGIN SENTENCE: BUT I PRESENT TO YOU AND TO ALL: VI TSUPERTSUNDERE'S TOP TEN:
Mohabbatein ("Love Stories", dir Aditya Chopra, 2000)
A young men's college ruled by a headmaster who disdains love--can one music teacher help three love stories grow, and let love tower above all? ✫ My first hindi film. Still can't think of a better introduction. Truly has it all. My favorite ghost story also!! ✧ Standout number: the three ingenues have an incredible dance sequence - it's the emotional climax of the film for me.
Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai ("Say You Love Me", dir Rakesh Roshan, 2000)
When Rohit, an aspiring musician, meets Saxena, a rich bussinessman's daughter, his dreams of stardom glimmer right within his reach. Life has other plans. ✩ Hrithik Roshan's debut - and what a debut! My first introduction to a beloved facet of hindi cinema - double roles!! ✫ Standout number: The number that takes place in Cafe Indiana, Ek Pal Ka Jeena, accurately conveys how it felt like to go to a Rainforest Cafe when I was very young. Truly thrilling!
Muhjse Dosti Karoge! ("Will You Be My Friend!", dir Kunal Kohli, 2002)
Childhood friends Raj, Tina, and Pooja are caught in a classic love triangle - Pooja loves Raj, but he only has eyes for Tina. When he moves away, Pooja poses as Tina as they email back and forth and their friendship blossoms long-distance. A decision made in childhood brings problems to Pooja's doorstep - as they all graduate high school and become adults, Raj returns home... ✧ Rani Mukherjee and Kareena Kapoor are the real MVPs here - shining stars in every movie they're in. ✩ Standout Sequence: The medley, seen above, brought me to my fucking feet when we first watched it. The characters diagetically are singing these popular songs for each other at a wedding celebrations - each song's lyrics weave in and apply on multiple levels, depending on who knows what and what they mean, up to and including Hrithik Roshan reprising Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai! Genuinely one of my favorite sequences I've seen period on film, if I could ever put together anything half as layered I'd be patting myself on the back forever.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... ("Through Smiles and Through Tears", dir Karan Johar, 2001)
The wealthy Raichand family splits in half when elder son Rahul falls in love with a lower-caste girl and marries her - younger son Rohit watches his beloved brother disappear to England and the light in his home wither away. When he becomes an adult, he's determined to find his brother and unite them all again. ✫ These three fuckers as a dad and two sons just make a fascinating family together, let alone the kind of heavy hitting talent you get from Jaya Bachchan (indeed married to Amitji) and of course Kajol my beloved Kajol most of all. 'It's All About Loving Your Parents' is a much much much... much harder sell than I'm prepared to give - at the very least, it's all the drama I can watch in. ✫ Standout Sequence: Bole Chudiyan above is so much fun, of course, but Say Shava Shava is also a really great 'here's how fun things are when things are GOOD' establishing song. When Amitji says 'EVERYBODY' he is not asking!!
Those four films are a truncated highlight reel of the 8 or so films I like watching around the holidays!! They work really well together and I associate them with each other a lot.
Darr ("Fear", dir Yash Chopra, 1993)
Kiran Awasthi has a freshly minted college degree, a bus ticket home, a beloved boyfriend in the Navy... and a stalker. A young woman is slowly driven mad by a ruthless specter who will stop at nothing to be by her side. As she and her boyfriend escalate... so does he. ✧ Truly breathtaking. A breakout role for SRK, another hit cementing Juhi Chawla my fucking beloved Juhi Chawla as the OG expression queen. My favorite horror film. Rahul Mehra deserves to be in Dead By Daylight so he can fight Leon in a twink off. Simply the bloodiest there is. My Halloween costume next year. ✩ Standout sequence: Any time Juhi Chawla is on screen and I'm not kidding.
Chaahat ("Desire", dir Mahesh Bhatt, 1996)
When the father of a father-and-son comedy duo gets sick, his son, Roop, would do anything to secure the money he needs to restore his father's health. So when he catches the eye of a wealthy club owner's sister, he can't say no, no matter how much her desire consumes... ✫ Diametric opposite of Darr, now Shah Rukh Khan is the target!! As a carnivore girl lover I can't not adore it. ✧ Standout sequence: Chaahat Na Hoti, pictured above. This was the frame that made me sit up and go 'oh I have to... I gotta watch this movie right now. Right now.' And I was so right.
Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani ("Yet, I Have the Heart of an Indian", dir Aziz Mirza, 2000)
Ajay Bakshi is a hotheaded, loudmouthed reporter - a rival media network hires his counterpart and superior, Ria Bannerjee, to try to take him down. ✫ A gag-a-minute comedy with more gumflaps than brains, just like our lead. Juhi is heaven in this. I can only describe this as 'I think this is what the guy from American Psycho THOUGHT was going on.' Was a flop - came out right after Kaho Na... Pyaar Hai and couldn't compete - but it hits the zany button like nothing else. ✧ Standout sequence: The inventiveness of the sets in pretty much every song is my favorite. CONTENT WARNING: There is an awful anti-Chinese gag sequence at about the middle of the film. The two leads pose as Chinese reporters to get into somewhere, and it's just wall to wall racial caricatures. I hit that ff button through it myself, a truly unpleasant marring in an otherwise goofy-ass romp.
Chak de! India ("Let's go! India", dir Shimit Amin, 2007)
Can a disgraced former field hockey star turn 16 proud, contentious players from all over the country into one unified team as their coach? Can each young woman play her all on the field - for herself and for her team? ✩ A sports anime fit into one film, I wish it were several seasons long. Each girl is spectacular and is a joy to watch!! ✫ Standout Sequence: The character work is where this one shines. Bindiya Naik is my personal favorite (and not just because the instant I saw her performance I went 'omg, she's playing my OC almost exactly. I'd cast her in a heartbeat!)
Fan (dir Maneesh Sharma, 2016)
Aryan Khanna is the King of Bollywood. Gaurav Chandna is almost him, but not quite - knows everything about him by heart, uses him as the light in his life, and Gaurav even looks just enough like him to boot. All Gaurav wants is five minutes of his time. Just five minutes... ✩ Eminem's 'Stan' as a feature length thriller that literally no one else could make. I can only quote this letterboxd review, because it's right: "even if there was another celebrity who could pull off tearing himself open to splash his own imposter syndrome onscreen, they wouldn't dare try...happy birthday to the only actor good enough to make his fans sympathize with his own stalker". I was SO upset to learn that this flopped. ✫ Standout Sequences: the practical and special effects used to differentiate SRK's two roles bar none some of the best I've experienced - uncanny valley is real here, and half of the horror is the ALMOST. but not quite.
✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✫✧✩✫✧✩✫
While I followed a loose, non-ranking order for the preceding nine entries, I had to save the only possible film for number one:
Om Shanti Om (dir Farah Khan, 2007)
"30 years ago," irrepressible junior artist Om Prakash Makhija has only one dream grander than making it big in the film industry - to get a chance to act alongside his greatest inspiration, superstar Shanti. His wish comes true, but, well... some dreams, one lifetime is not enough... ✫ THE BEST MOVIE THAT EXISTS. THE BEST MOVIE THAT DOESN'T EXISTS. Don't believe me? Let these ladies convince you - when I learned that somehow The Coolest And Most Sparkling theater troupe on the face of the planet staged a production of this I literally got so lightheaded I couldn't see for a second. This movie came out when I was thirteen - if I had seen it then I think it would have made a huge difference. As it was, I saw it at the second most perfect time: when I was/am also a 30 year old irrepressible junior goofball, just like Om. Farah Khan is one of my favorite directors for certain. A film about the hindi film industry, I place it last also because the more faces you recognize, songs you can pick out, movie references you can catch, the better - and it's incredible even still. ✧ Standout sequence: I can't say the whole movie (... minus Deewangi Deewangi it's the Yakuza 4 of this movie) can I??? Let me just say - long story short, Farah Khan got the idea for this film when Andrew Lloyd Weber had her to choreography for his stage show, Bollywood Dreams. She thought the plot, a poor junior artist becoming a big Bollywood star, was eye-rollingly unrealistic. She could do better, she thought... and that idea eventually became Om Shanti Om. The climax is her proving she could do Phantom of the Opera better than him, too!!
✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✫✧✩✫✧✩✫
And, if you'll indulge me... in thanks for giving me a really fun thing to do today, I have one more film: one that I think you would like, based off of the vibes of the journal entries I got to read!
Veer-Zaara (dir Yash Chopra, 2004)
An Indian pilot and the daughter of a Pakistani politician fall in love, but are wrenched apart when the pilot is imprisoned on false charges. He languishes 22 years in prison, never saying a word, until a young Pakistani lawyer is assigned his case and she is determined to see him freed... ✧ Certified Mom Movie and is an absolute banger. When I thought 'who would be a character who I could see Estelle looking forward to meeting for lunch', Rani Mukherjee's lawyer was right at the top of the list. ✫ Standout Sequence: My personal favorite, Main Yahaan Hoon, is the song linked above. It drives me Insane absolutely Insane - this depicts 'they're not in the room but they're the only thing on your mind' in a way seldom more effective!
✫✧✩✫✧✩✫✫✧✩✫✧✩✫
omg NOW I'm done for eel. This was a terrific exercise in tilling the soil in my brain - I'm really inspired by the all visual direction, the colors and depths, the sensibilities in general exemplified by the movies here, and hope to one day reflect it in my own work! I have to make the Yash Raj reshade shaders I want to see in the world.
Please don't hesitate to drop me a line about anything you find interesting here, other movies you've seen, or anything else! Genuinely truly always love getting to see your work. Thank you for reading!
#thank you again again again again SO so much so so much. I literally let myself have so much fun with this. I had a ball!!#oh my GOD it was so hard to pick good representative screenshots for each film. except oso chaaha and k3g - those shots have been in my min#since I first saw them#the rest are shots I'm just finding really evocative... and really inspiring!! I hope to help you see why they're my favorites.#paper star jar#postbox
