Modern Frodo Baggins would, when annoying ppl call him and he's too defiant exhausted to deal with them, just stare at his ringing phone, smiling gleefully until it stops and later call back and be like "Oh sorry I was sooo busy I didn't hear it!" and hilariously, I can back that claim up with proof from the books

How would Thorin comfort his lover? Both when it’s related to physical pain/injury and emotional distress
Please and thank you! 🩵🩵
Thorin, in my mind, shows his love through touch. Comforting his lover would mean touching her gently, whether her hand, arm, face, or maybe something a little more intimate, like a leg, when no one is looking.
Obviously physical injury may be a little more difficult, but Thorin would tend to her wounds himself, not wanting touch from anyone else. I imagine him being a little jealous in that respect. Not overly, but something he can’t help himself feel.
Apart from touch, he is a gift giver. He’d shower her with flowers, trinkets and even food. Then he’d encourage her to rest, not take on extra duties, and remain beside her. ♥️
Thank you for asking, love! Thoroughly enjoyed answering this.

You know what??
Samwise Gamgee this, Samwise Gamgee that.
A man with that level of dedication to another human despite his own fears and shortcomings has got to be a Paladin at the end of the day. He swore an Oath to stick by Frodo and followed it till the very end.
No question in my goddamn ever-loving mind. I’ll die on this hill.

Bifur headcanons, as requested by @ashyjingles :)
(read the Bombur ones for some background)
(Uncle Thorin, part 1, part 2), (Dwalin), (Óin), (trans Dwarves)
Bifur is already nearly an adult, when his little cousins are born and so, he babysits them all the time and takes them on little adventures
before the axe head, he's an outgoing, well-spoken and charming Dwarrow, who comes up with songs and is very well-liked by his community
he is dedicated to his craft (=asexual), which is a tragedy according to some, due to his charm and fine beard
in his youth he is a toymaker in training, but he has to work as a miner instead, to help to provide for the family
he's ambitious. For decades he doesn't just work as a miner during the day, he also goes through extensive training in the evening, until he finally manages to join the City Guard of Thorin's Hall. His family is incredible proud of him. He also receives a much higher wage than as a miner
after a few decades an Orc raid hits the city. They manage to break through the city wall. Bifur fights bravely side by side with his fellow guards, until he is hit by an axe. He somehow survives
the years after the raid are very fuzzy. He barely remembers them. He only knows what his cousins tell him. Most of it is tragic, like the fact that nearly all of his friends turned away from him
he might look severe most of the time, but he isn't. He has issues to control his face and also a chronic headache due to the axe
because of his injury he lost a lot of his fine motor skills and can't really craft toys anymore. He doesn't like to speak about it, since it's breaking his heart, even after decades
he loves his cousins very much and doesn't know what he would do without them
he receives a small pension, since he was injured on duty, but it's barely enough, and so he starts to work in the mines again, though he mostly works in the higher levels as a carrier, due to his ailments
he keeps his focus on the little things in life, like sunshine on his face, laughing with his cousins, picking flowers and collecting pretty stones and such
Bifur doesn't really expect the quest to be successful, but he still joins, since his cousins want to go, and also he hears that Thorin takes young lads like his nephews and Ori with him and as a former guard, he wants to try and protect them
since most people are put off by the axe head and his issues with speaking, he keeps to himself and his cousins. To his surprise, Fíli joins him one day, when he's collecting stones during some downtime. Turns out, Fíli is a gem cutter by trade, who loves to collect quartz and such in his freetime. They become fast friends and since Fíli deems him alright, Kíli (who was spooked in the beginning) warms up to him. Bifur spends a lot of time with the two lads and enjoys their youthful energy
after losing the axe head during the Battle of Five Armies, his headaches get a lot better, though his other ailments don't change much
after the quest (in an "Everybody survives"-AU), Bifur wishes to rejoin the Guard. At Fíli's request, Bifur becomes the personal guard of the Crown Prince of Erebor (and keeps sneaking him snacks and such)
he also keeps working on his motor skills, and even if he can't craft the same toys as before the injury, it is still balm for his soul to sit in his workshop
(there are also rumors that he and Óin are sometimes seen holding hands. But that's nobody's business, isn't it?)
(feel free to send requests)

okay! im about to read your newest the hobbit post but i had a little question that might be hard to answer and if it is thats cool! i was just wondering how you seem to seamlessly get all the dwarves in character. even when the movies and stuff don't focus on them. It's like every time i read your works it's ALWAYS SO IN CHARACTER and it's so good but im so amazed with how you do it when the dwarves arent all focused on much. its amazing. im thinking of trying to write my own for them, similar to what you do kinda, but im scared of not getting their characterization right!
First off, I can’t wait to see what you write 🥰 if you do requests maybe I’ll shoot you one hehe
Ooooh well this is an interesting question for sure! Well characters/characterization has always been like a special interest of mine and it's an honor to hear I do it well! This is gonna be loooooooooooooooooooooooong but I kinda want to go into examples for them all hehe
So overall I'd say: Keeping period-accurate language and just their culture in mind is important. Trying to avoid too many contractions and colloquialism from our time and things like that. But for more specifics I think it's easy to fall into stereotypes, even in the movies themselves and it's sort of like a mix of leaning into those and going outside them in the right blend? But I'll explain my thought process for each of them by family cuz I wanna talk about them 🤔😆
Balin, Dwalin: Balin is one of the characters less stereotyped because his role is more prominent. He definitely serves as a guide and source of wisdom, but also has the background of being an "old warrior". He's quieter and more level-headed than some of the other more boisterous characters and I see him as being (healthily) protective in relationships because of his guiding and caring. Dwalin is also a warrior and that tends to come more forward, but he also loves good food and cares about people. He, too, is protective even if it's more of a rough way, and I think he likes the feeling of being needed and being able to take care of people even if he acts like he doesn't. That's a bit of a headcanon, but again, looking beyond stereotypes I guess hehe~
Oin, Gloin: Oin is mostly known for being the healer, maybe the hearing jokes. But he’s also a jolly soul and obviously quite intelligent too. I think he’s almost the most balanced between the raucous, axe-wielding mining dwarf stereotype and the more intellectual side not stereotyped for them… which is silly in and of itself! Oin is smart, funny, experienced…but he still knows how to fight and how to have a good time! Gloin is often seen as being similar to his son, but he has an even stronger sense of family values and loyalty as a father and husband. He also is shown to enjoy gambling and treasure, too, so I love imagining him as knowing all the most fun games and ways to bet!
Thorin, Fili, Kili: Thorin is the most serious one and I think that comes from the weight of everything falling on him. A big part of him wants to give in and trust or love people, but it's hard for him to add outsiders to that. Trust and respect are very important for him, and formalities and proof come before he opens up. But when you let him, he has some capacity for physical affection as we see when he embraces Bilbo. Literally and figuratively that shows him 'embracing' a new friendship. His family is very important for him and I think while he seems to feel it's not in the cards, I think Thorin deep down would love a family of his own. Fili and Kili both have teasing streaks and a mix of the seriousness and merriment. They feel a similar weight to Thorin but much less compounded with youth and their own personalities. It's more generational trauma that gets imposed on them. Fili has all his blades and is shown to be very loyal, but beyond that he is very self-sacrificial. He's giving and loving, surrendering seeing Erebor to be with his brother and even giving his life toward the canon end. As much as he teases, he has the best interests of those he loves in mind and will stand up for that. Kili is portrayed as the flirt, which is quite true, but he also is the most idealistic. The one who asks 'why not?' in the face of challenges. He can be a bit of a show-off, but he’s a sweetheart and had the most youthful innocence preserved.
Bifur, Bofur, Bombur: Bifur stands out for speaking mostly in signs and Khuzdul, but he’s also a strong, experienced fighter. I think his condition lends to him being lonelier and wanting to reach out and be included, hence him having such resentment toward the axe once he loses it! Kind of like Dwalin, though, he’s an interesting mix of wanting to seem tough but also being softer than he lets on inside. Bofur is jolly and loves to sing, dance, and have fun, but he’s also the biggest sweetheart. He, after all, is the one who tells Bilbo he’s a part of the group and that he belongs with them. He risks his own safety to help Kili in Laketown. I really think he’d be the sweetest with a family and honestly he’s just one of my favorites in the whole darn thing, I could go on and on! Bottom line is that Bofur is cheerful and musical, but also the first dwarf you’ll want to talk to for real, heart-filled motivation and kind words about anyone. Bombur is the most stereotyped character and I hate that due to the nature of it!!! 😤 The old ‘haha fat person obsessed with food’ trope bugs me because it’s just riddled with unfunny prejudices even though both of those things are valid and true. But weight as a joke frickin sUCKS and I say that as someone who’s been fat-shamed by someone who claimed to be my best friend, joked about how heavy I was and going to tip things over etc. But we see that Bombur is strong, a very fast runner and capable fighter whose weight can help him in a fight! The popular fanon/actors headcanon is that he’s married and the father of I believe thirteen or fourteen children and I love that for him 😌 he’s obviously more quiet, happy to stay along the sides and take orders, but one of his few focused non-caricature scenes is him returning Bifur’s axe like ‘here you go cousin 🥺’… just a goofy lil sweetheart I love. Basically he’s the one who does the cooking for the company but I try to give his quiet but big-hearted side more attention than just being like heehoo fat guy lol
Dori, Nori, Ori: Dori is always just put in his ‘mother-hen’ role, which is definitely part of his character! But also it is described by movie creators/actors that he’s known for being a few other things, like having a taste for finer things and being more on the gentle and intellectual side as well. One detail they mentioned was hence the silver case he braids his beard into 😆 but I think of him as being softer and more well-read as well as being one of the obviously most family-oriented. Nori gets the sort of swashbuckling thief reputation and tbh, I see it! I also often characterize him as a tease, which I think is part of why the film notes/actors mention he drives Ori crazy lol. Ori himself is usually portrayed with his writing and drawing in focus as well as the fanon that he knits! I love him for being more sweet and polite, but also with the little moments of showing his strength and rougher side. And sometimes he just feels like he has to keep up with everyone else 🥺 In general I see him being the sweetest in relationships even if he is the least mature. Also probably second to Dori in terms of preferring comforts.
Bilbo: Home is obviously a big motif for Bilbo because he’s such a homebody in the beginning and rediscovers his love for adventure. A big part of his character, then, is realizing people can be home and there is more than one definition. He’s also a bit shy and awkward being so introverted as he is, so if he doesn’t know how to say something that’ll probably show. Like most hobbits, though, he’s so sweet and resilient and has a purity at heart that the others don’t. He’s intentional in his behaviors and clever. Also, he knows quality when he sees it 😌

Hi, it took me sometimes to decide to write this ask because I didn’t want to bother you. Then I realised that if an author has requests open is because they like the input so here I am: I saw you write also Celebrian and Elrond they are one of my favourite couples, so I thought to try.
If I’m not mistaken you’ve set the death of the Elvenqueen after the attack on Celebrian (first time I read that my heart shattered), so I would like to know if you haven’t said already what was Thranduil and Maereth’s reaction to what happened or if Celebrian sensing the darkness that would arrive in ME asked her dear friend to accompany her to Aman or whatever you have in mind about their friendship, really. And if you are willing I would also love a little ff about their family.
I loved Cel appearance in your ff: sins of our fathers and how you set the premise of that.
Of course take your time, no pressure at all and even if you can’t don’t worry!
Lady Celebrían in the SotWK AU: the Elvenqueen's dearest friend
I love Celebrían too!!! She is my favorite female canon character in Lord of the Rings--at least the way I envision her in my mind, since we are actually not given a lot of specifics about the Lady of Imladris.
My admiration for sweet, gentle Celebrían factored in greatly in my decision to develop her as a significant supporting character in the SotWK AU:
Not only is she one of Maereth's most beloved friends, but they are blood-relations. Maereth's father Eärondir (oc) is the son of Círdan the Shipwright and Eäriel (oc). Eäriel is the daughter of one of the sons of Olwë, and therefore a first cousin of Galadriel's. This means Celebrían is Maereth's paternal second cousin, once removed. (They are also related through the line of Finwë, but that's a whole other calculation!)
As you read in "Sins of Our Fathers", Celebrían and Maereth were friends even before Maereth met Thranduil. Celebrían was one of Maereth's main confidants through the centuries she struggled with the decision of whether or not to accept Thranduil's affections. Let's just say, if maids of honor were a thing in Elvish weddings, Celebrían would be Maereth's, no contest.
Furthermore, Celebrían is closely related to Itarildë (oc), the eventual wife of Prince Mirion Thranduilion. Itarildë's mother, Nimeithel (oc), is the younger sister of Nimloth (Elwing's mother), daughter of Galathil (brother of Celeborn). This means Celebrían is Itarildë's maternal first cousin, once removed.
Confusingly complex family trees aside, I am just trying to drive home the point that Celebrían means a great deal to the Royal Family of Greenwood. Sure, Elrond and Thranduil eventually become great friends, but the love began with and was always strongest between their wives.
One funny SotWK HC is that while Thranduil and Elrond had serious discussions about betrothing their children to each other (Arwen with any Thranduilion of her choosing) in order to further bond their families, Maereth and Celebrían opposed this, insisting that all their children should have full freedom in choosing their partners.
Tumblr media
SotWK Fancast: Connie Nielsen as Lady Celebrían; Jennifer Connelly as Elvenqueen Maereth
Now finally, to address your real question, Anon: How did Maereth and Thranduil react to the attack on Celebrían, and her eventual passing to Aman?
The attack on Celebrían occurred in T.A. 2509, when things were starting to get really dire in Mirkwood. The Watchful Peace that Mirion had won through his death ended, and the Necromancer was rising again in greater force.
Itarildë’s mother, Nimeithel, was traveling with Celebrían through the Redhorn Pass, and died trying to defend her cousin from the Orcs. Witnessing this added to Celebrían's grief and torment.
As soon as they received word of her capture, Thranduil sent Gelir and Itarildë with a group of soldiers to help recover her. This was ultimately unnecessary since Elladan and Elrohir recovered their mother on their own, but it was a significant gesture from the Elvenking, whose military resources were already strained from Mirkwood's own battles against Dol Guldur.
When Celebrían was taken home to Imladris to be healed by Elrond, Maereth immediately traveled from Mirkwood to be with her. She also brought her son Arvellas, the best healer in their realm, to lend whatever aid he could. (Again unnecessary, but a sign that their family would spare no expense to help the Lady of Imladris.)
Maereth stayed with Celebrían in Imladris the whole time she struggled with her recovery. Although Maereth at first tried to plead with her friend to remain in Middle-earth, the loss of Mirion and her other family members (both her parents, all her siblings) allowed her to understand Celebrían's desire for peace and rest in the Blessed Realm.
I don't believe Celebrían tried to ask Maereth to come with her, especially when she could not convince her own family to do so. But Celebrían's words about the growing darkness affected Maereth greatly, and although she never spoke of it to Thranduil, it made her foresee that her own doom would be coming soon.
Not only did Maereth support Celebrían's decision to leave, but she accompanied her to the Grey Havens (remember that Círdan is her grandfather!) and was there to give her a last goodbye before she sailed.
They truly were bosom friends to the very end, and when Maereth died and was released from the Halls, Celebrían was most certainly there to welcome her.
Thank you Anon, for the opportunity to discuss my Celebrían headcanons! I promise she will make many more appearances in SotWK fanfics, especially when I start writing Elrond x Celebrían stories! <3
Bonus: My Celebrían fancast alongside Hugo Weaving's Elrond. (I think Connie Nielsen is stunning, and is a great match for Hugo!)

One of the main reasons I think I stick with Bagginshield “Bilbo stays in Erebor” fics, rather than Reshirement, is that I tend to shy away from writing Fili as taking over as King immediately or soon after BOTFA if Thorin goes back to the Shire with Bilbo. I don’t think it’d be impossible for him to do so, but I think, in the same way as Thorin and Thror, it’d likely come at a great personal cost to himself to have to do so while barely being of age. Add the political conflicts of Erebor being barely revived, any possible power struggles, and more, aaand that’s a lot to go wrong!
Now, exploring the fun angst and hurt/comfort of Fili realizing “shit, I might be heir but I’m not actually ready to take over alone right now”? 10/10. I just can’t commit to going through with it in a fic because I’m a softie who needs the comfort after angst, LOL.

The Fellowships’ Various Reactions!
“I’ll finish what you start!” PT2
A/N: for @liamwinters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frodo Baggins: Frodo, being a gentle and peace-loving hobbit, appreciates Y/n's philosophy of avoiding conflict. He admires their ability to defend themselves when necessary but hopes that peaceful resolutions can be found without resorting to violence.
Samwise Gamgee: Sam is loyal to Frodo and shares his values. He respects Y/n's approach and believes in their ability to protect themselves and their friends when required. Sam would likely offer support and encouragement to Y/n in their peaceful but assertive stance.
Merry Brandybuck and Pippin Took: Merry and Pippin, being mischievous hobbits, might find Y/n's philosophy interesting but would likely enjoy a good fight themselves. They might tease Y/n good-naturedly about their preference for avoiding conflict but would ultimately respect their choice.
Aragorn: As a seasoned warrior and leader, Aragorn understands the importance of self-defense. He appreciates Y/n's determination to protect themselves and their loved ones. Aragorn would likely view Y/n's stance as a valuable asset to the Fellowship, particularly in situations where negotiations fail and battles become inevitable.
Legolas: Legolas, being an elf known for his exceptional archery skills, values harmony and peace. He would respect Y/n's belief in avoiding conflict and likely admire their ability to stand up for themselves when necessary. Legolas might also appreciate Y/n's potential to find alternative solutions to conflicts.
Gimli: Gimli, a proud dwarf warrior, might initially be skeptical of Y/n's aversion to conflict. However, he would also recognize the importance of strategic thinking and the value of having someone skilled in both diplomacy and self-defense. Over time, Gimli would likely come to respect Y/n's approach.
Gandalf: Gandalf, the wise and powerful wizard, understands the complexities of conflict and the importance of self-defense. He would appreciate Y/n's philosophy of avoiding unnecessary violence and relying on their abilities to defend themselves when pushed to their limits. Gandalf would likely encourage Y/n to find a balance between peace and self-preservation.
Boromir: Boromir, a brave but flawed warrior, might view Y/n's philosophy with some skepticism. He is driven by the need to protect his people and might initially consider Y/n's reluctance to initiate conflict as a weakness. However, as he witnesses Y/n's ability to defend themselves when needed, Boromir could grow to respect their approach and see the value in their stance.
Overall: Each member of the Fellowship has their own unique perspectives and backgrounds, but ultimately, they would recognize the importance of Y/n's ability to defend themselves while still upholding their commitment to avoid unnecessary conflict. They would value Y/n's contribution to the Fellowship and appreciate the diverse set of skills and beliefs that each member brings to the group.

Warning: This is NSFW so if you’re under the legal age or uncomfortable with content like this, please skip over this one! Content Warnings: Threesome, Choking/Breath Play, Double Penetration
NSFW Aragorn: Kinks
When it comes to sex for Aragon, it’s an activity that has to happen within the confines of his home.
For him, sex is not something he feels like should be seen by others. The only time where he finds having a person watch, in any capacity, is if it is a threesome.
One of the few people he is comfortable enough to do a threesome with is Legolas. One position that is a common occurrence for the two to do is the kneeling double penetration. Look it up if you need a visual.
Aragorn is into clothed sex. He is into it no matter how much either of you is wearing.
He is also into breath play. He is very cautious when it comes to actually doing this. He makes sure that his partner is able to tap out at any point during this.
He does have a size kink. He likes how his hand looks around your neck as he looks down at you.
As Aragorn is a ranger, he is into primal/prey. Whenever his partner decides to be a brat and run from him, when in a mood, it kicks in his prey drive.

My lady Marigold
Fragrance, who is this Marigold lass you keep mentioning?
Ok, fine, here it is. This is my version of Marigold Gamgee, of course. Relatively little is known about her in canon except her birth year and whom she marries, but I had a Sam roleplay partner who brought her into our interactions once in a while, and I was enchanted and eventually took the outlines and made them my own. Marigold's development has been somewhat (?) influenced by my long and enduring obsession with anime.
-- Sam Gamgee's canonical sister, 3 years younger.
-- youngest child of six
-- friends with Rosie Cotton
-- Sam is her protective older brother
-- had childhood crush on Mr. Frodo. But Mr. Frodo Senpai will never, ever notice her.
-- birthday (my invention): Nov 5. Hence, Scorpio. This is salient because the hobbits get freed from the Lockholes on Nov 4.
-- conventionally pretty for a hobbit; shorter than most hobbit lasses -- did not get enough to eat with five older siblings
-- has a lot of the same verbal tics as Sam, including "if you follow me," and "if you get my meaning"
-- anime girl personality: biggest calling card is that she's hard working, sweet, obliging, self-effacing, caring and is generally a cinnamon roll.
-- trains as a midwife. Almost finishes, but then Something Happens and she quits.
-- has social anxiety. Can't speak up in groups very well until Mrs. Bracegirdle, the midwife, takes her in hand. Then develops a genki, more extraverted "professional" persona
-- has sensory sensitivity, and just wants some peace and quiet, and something of her own, but those things are hard to come by in a large household. Hates that siblings are always in her business, shake her secrets out of her and then laugh at her. (Sam is not quite so bad with this).
-- has dyslexia. Sam taught her her letters. But he didn't know how to teach a person with dyslexia, so she still struggles.
-- not as emotionally intelligent as she could be. Sometimes this comes out as random flashes of anger, violence, and crying. Beat Sam with a wet towel once, and may or may not have taken a chunk out of his leg with her teeth when they were children.
-- picked Lobelia off the ground in the lane, helped her hobble home and dressed her ankle. Got called a clumsy fool for her trouble.
-- There was an, ahem, Situation, with Lotho and his ruffians that got her imprisoned in the Lockholes, but she came hobbling out on her own power and actually supporting another hobbit. And no, Mr. Frodo absolutely did NOT rescue her from the Lockholes, did NOT lift her up into his saddle, and did NOT deliver her home to the crying and grateful Gamgees, no matter how many actual real-life eyewitnesses claim to have been there to see it.
-- Looks kind of like this: (Holliday Grainger as Lucrezia Borgia in The Borgias)

do you...headcanon heimdal to be aroace because of personality and character reasons, or just because you hate him and don't want him to be paired up? I always get a little wary as an ace person seeing people say "i hate this character so they're aroace"
I'm actually ace myself! understandable. But no actually!
I just kinda feel like not much really tempts him. I feel like maybe he might have found a partner if he really wanted, but he also seems very like... career focused if that makes sense? Like he's pretty invested in his work and his loyalty to Odin. I've also stated that while I hate his personality and some fans' obsession with him, I DO appreciate the way his character has been written and as an adversary for the protagonists. And I don't really base a characters' worth on who I ship them with, I'm not just here for shipping. I mentioned me not liking Heimdall in relation to being ace just because I keep seeing Heimdall & Hermes content, and so while I don't personally ship Heimdall with anyone and don't like his personality, I'm glad the Heimdall/Hermes shippers are having fun hgsshfsu
Plus he's got the purple eyes and some of the ace flag colors so that makes it more fun
