Bi-Ace Laurence and Aro Roland
Okay so a few weeks ago I made a comment about viewing Jane Roland/Laurence as queer, and @sere-allwehaveisnowasked me to dig into it. This is a slightly cleaned up version of the ramble I gave on the Temeraire discord, just on the off-chance folks from the broader fandom might find it interesting!
So I can see how that description of Laurence/Roland might seem surprising at a first glance! They're an M/F pair, and obviously that lends itself to a very traditional heterosexual reading. But that's not the only possible reading, at all!
"Queer" is a catchall term and an umbrella term, which means there has been a lot of quibbling over what exactly 'counts' is queer. "Is X queer?" is a Discourse repeated ad nauseam; replace X with 'ace people', 'aro people', 'polyamorous people', 'kinksters', 'furries', etc.... It gets really hard to draw firm lines. Which is why I generally subscribe to te definition of queer as "anything which transgresses the social norms in the broadly overlapping space of sexuality, romance, and gender" So on a base level, you have the fact that in the time and setting of the Temeraire series, Jane Roland is breaking So Many gender norms. She's a soldier, masculine, heavier set and with facial scarring. Under some more flexible definitions of queer, almost any sexual and/or romantic relationship she entered into would be inherently queer due to how she transgresses the boundaries. That said, while I do find something compelling there, that alone isn't really why I see Jane/Will as queer, since while Roland might be transgression within the text, to the average 21st century reader, she's not nearly so shocking.
For me, it's much more about how Laurence/Roland fits much much more into broader queer readings of both their characters, notably the bi (and to a lesser extent, ace) experience for Laurence, and the aromantic reading for Roland.
I very much do read Laurence as a bisexual guy who never really realised he was bisexual, partly because his attraction genders were fairly equal, and both fairly low. In book one, he doesn't really seem personally that attracted to the idea of a traditional marriage-- it's just sort of What One Does, and he does like the idea of the companionship a marriage with offer. He's friends with Edith, their engagement makes sense, and he doesn't have any other option that's more appealing, so... Why not? But equally, while he's disappointing to lose that future, he's not heartbroken either.
Specifically, I think what attracts Laurence is military competence. (Or maybe not quite military per say, but certainly something adjacent. Being in the field, getting your hands dirty). And he'd never really twigged to that because... All the women he had met until then were Society Ladies(tm). They were divorced from that entire sphere. And sure, Laurence saw it in men, but he didn't read it as sexual attraction, he just read it as admiration. (It can be hard to untangle the difference!)
But then he meets Jane. Who is feminine while also masculine. A woman who displays all these elements of military competence that Laurence is foremost drawn to. And I really do think that's the Rosetta stone for realising his attraction to men.
I also think there's a really great ace reading of him getting back together with Jane for LoD? Not just that he apparently hadn't had any sex for the previous 3.5 books; that could equally be attributed to his depression and social isolation. But it's the way that encounter has less to do with him craving sex specifically, or craving romance, as him feeling the joy and relief of having regained Jane's trust.
As for Roland... Man I read her as aro, so bad. I can absolutely see the reading where she isn't inherently/naturally disinclined to romance, but basically taught herself to repress her desire for the sake of her career. And that's definitely compelling. But I see so much of someone who just doesn't really care about romance, doesn't really get what everyone else sees in it, and is just going to carry on without it.
And I just love that Roland/Laurence continues throughout the entire series, but doesn't end with them getting married and having kids or anything like that. They have this great fiends with benefits situation which is genuinely SO refreshing.
All of this I think dovetails deeper into my feelings about queerness in the Temeraire series as a whole. These books were published in a time where there was a huge push for greater gay representation (one we're still living through now), and I believe that was a big part of the analysis. And indeed, I think it's fair to examine and ask why there wasn't more of an explicit M/M representation in the story. But at the same time, a question I often grapple with as an a-spec person, is how do you depict the more 'subtle' queer identities? Especially ones like asexuality and aromanticism, which are defined by a lack of something? Especially in historical fiction, where it would be deeply weird to have the characters use modern terminology and bust out some pride flags. And I don't know if any of this was Novik's intentions or not; to a large extent, I don't care. But I do think there's a lot of stuff in this narrative that resonates with a lot of bi, asexual, and aromantic experiences, and that's really interesting to analyse.

Why Discourse? A Short Essay
Read time: 2-3 mins
Periodically, someone in the otherkin and/or therian tags stands up and declares that there should be no more discourse. That we need to leave it behind. We should all touch grass and get along. We should certainly stop spending so much time fretting and arguing over words and their definitions.
Before I get into why I disagree with this stance, I want to be clear that I absolutely understand where this position comes from. Iām not contemptuous. There is a great deal of petty nonsense on this site that gets labeled as serious discourse, and itās highly unlikely that whatever intracommunity conflict is going on in the nonhuman tags is the most importantly thing in someoneās life. Itās annoying to see if you donāt want to engage, and itās also pretty hard to block out. The community probably would be better if there wasnāt so much discourse, but that would necessitate nothing left worth discourse-ing.
And that is the exact trouble. There remain myriad problems that trouble the community, and in all likelihood there will continue to be problems. To reject discourse is to reject the illumination and discussion of these problems. And I donāt mean the sort of āX is a bad person because I said soā conversations that pop up every so often, I mean the very real racism, ableism and sanism that continue to haunt this community. If talk of these problems, too, is labeled as ādiscourseā (which, letās be honest, it is) then calls to stop discourse become pleas to maintain the status quo.
Community is not a static object. It is molded. Its pliability is evidenced by the lamentation of differences between the therian communities on here (tumblr) verses TikTok verses Reddit verses the forums of old. These communities are shaped by the individuals that inhabit them and their beliefs (among other things). Discourse is one of the ways we shape our communities for the present and for the future. Itās partly how we decide what is and is not acceptable discussion, behavior and comportment within our ranks. Without it, there is no way for individuals to speak their mind about the state and direction of the community.
For example. Letās say someone coins a new term. And letās say the community likes this term. They use it, itās helpful. Thatās great. But maybe that term has an ahistorical or appropriative basis. Or maybe individuals are going to other members of the community and saying āyouāre not X youāre actually [new term]ā. Should the affected members of the community not speak up? Sure, in the scheme of life and the āreal worldā itās easy to say āwho cares?ā Itās just one term. But what happens in two years. Or five, or ten. When no one speaks up and this happens again and again, and more and more of the community is wedged out by various issues that go uncommented on? Who does that serve when the issues that drive people out are all but guaranteed to be reflections of the biases that exist in our human societies? What will the community look like when nothing but the hegemony is reinforced?
Iām not trying to say that every topic of discourse is equally merited. A lot of it is inane and immature and straightforwardly unhelpful. But some of it isnāt. Some of it will dictate what the community is like for years. Dismissing all discourse as equally useless is chucking the baby out with the bath water.
I can understand if over the course of this essay Iāve made it seem like discourse is of singular importance to me. Contrary to what it seems, maybe, I do have a life offline. But I have not been shy in discussing my long time issues feeling welcome in the therian community, and so Iām invested in making this a space where no one has to bounce off it as many times as I have. One way I can do that is by pushing back against beliefs that have ostracized myself and my friends. The problem, or perhaps the beauty, of therian spaces is that theyāre pretty singular. There are furry communities or other adjacent social groups, but I found if youāre nonhuman, you really want the opportunity to be in community with other nonhumans. And certain beliefs and practices can make that difficult for some and leave them with nowhere else to go. From what Iāve heard of other websites, the tumblr therian space is amongst the more accepting, and if someone is pushed off here, itās unlikely they have anywhere to turn but personal blogs or journaling sites that donāt offer much in the way of connection. Discourse is the one way I, with my limited reach and energy, can change a few hearts and minds on the issues in this community that affect me.
I think itās also worth mentioning that discourse is not just ādiscussion I donāt want to see.ā āThere should be less discourseā is discourse. Any discussion of community reform is discourse. Any back and forth of opinions between individuals is discourse.
Iām not saying you have to like it. Iām certainly not saying you have to participate. You are entirely free to plug your ears and close your eyes to discourse and I will say youāre probably wiser and stronger willed than I am. You are completely free to live your grass-touching life how youād like. But please do not call for the end of discourse entirely. Please do not act like discourse is the worst thing someone in this community can do, or that itās āwhatās wrongā with the therian community on tumblr. I think itās fair to say you donāt like it, but it serves a purpose.

Osamu Tezuka
To start, my first thoughts on this topic were to not offer a creator the status of furbait, given the fact that he's a man and not an anthropomorphic animal character.
Given his fascination with Donald Duck in particular (the rest of the video beyond my clip touches at another point), he became a manga artist and from that, we get a lot of other great works that, themselves are furrybait. I had jokingly referred to a creator also influenced by Disney and anthropomorphic animal characters -- Don Bluth -- as not only furbait, but furbait royalty. Similarly, in response, AJ has referred to Chuck Jones as furbait, himself in so many words. If I were to look at many of his works, namely Wonder3, Kimba, and Leo of Saitama Seibu Lions, I'd find a largely influential creator with anthropomorphic character designs.

Speaking of Wonder 3, here they are. Obviously, the fan favorite is Bokko, whose plot progression is her love for the planet Earth, which she is sent to evaluate its viability for survival given the destruction of its wars. She's an alien who takes the form of a rabbit to fit in and befriends a young boy named Shinchi. Her love for the earth continues with her love for Shinchi, wishing she could be a human woman for him.

I also mentioned Kimba and Leo, whose lion designs are rather similar. I have seen Leo and used his design to consider what I like in an anthropomorphic animal -- namely how much I prefer big cat designs over normal canines that anthropomorph fans are drawn to.

Because this is the internet and nothing is sacred, especially, after the posthumous reveal of art inside his work desk, people have seen this welcoming of the year of the rabbit with a sense of perversion. Yes, there's a cleft on the rabbit's rear end that insinuates she got a ass. I'm not denying that, but I'm also willing to stand up and say that it's not inherently proof that this is sexualized -- especially given the context of Bokko's relationship.
Lastly, I know of this part of the story, and feel it's not... It feels like looking through a creator's browser history and airing out their dirty laundry. It feels invasive to even acknowledge the supposed erotica hiding away for posthumous discovery. The reason I'm not so easy to claim he's furrybait, is that much of his furrybait discourse happened 25 years after his death. As much as anime's conception sharing the DNA with furry is great as a concept, it's hard to really prove that. That said, through his public-facing career, he's definitely earned his flowers and I would say he deserves recognition for his larger impact.

My friend and I just finished our rewatch of Star Trek: TOS. What a fun, fun trip it was.
Purely for my own enjoyment, here are the 10 Star Trek: TOS episodes I liked the most. Heavily steeped in my love of retro cheese and B-Movies.
10. Arena
The Kirk vs A Lizard episode. The rocks are very obviously foam, the fight choreography is peak Trek and the lizardman wears a go-go dress lovingly crocheted by meemaw. At the end a bedazzled space twink shows up. A classic for a reason.
9. The Corbomite Maneuver
Structured like so many other Trek eps (ship gets in predicament, Kirk must pull a solution out of his ass in the 11th hour) but with great twist ending that blew my mind. Showcases Kirk's brand of cleverness very well.
8. Turnabout Intruder
The last episode of the series has a fascinating plot: one of Kirk's ex-girlfriends forcibly switches bodies with him. There's a lot of unfortunate gender discourse but if you decide to view the whole thing as a typically 60s trans allegory, it becomes fascinating. Spock recognizes the captain through a mind meld and defends him in court. Good times.
7. The Cloud Minders
The best episode of season 3 imo. Beautiful painted backgrounds and amazing retrofuturist interiors. The story is a really solid metaphor for classist oppression right until you learn the workers actually ARE violent and stupid because of some gas in the mines. Still loved it.
6. Operation: Annihilate!
The crew visits a planet decimated by alien parasites that look like flying rubber pancakes. Spock gets got and it's very tense and dramatic. Good Spirk vibes, plus I love it when my blorbos suffer.
5. The Way to Eden
The Enterprise picks up space hippies trying to find a fabled paradise planet. The costumes and songs are super enjoyable. A shining example of an ep that was probably extremely cringe back when it aired but has aged like a fine, campy wine.
4. The City on the Edge of Forever
Ok this one isn't underrated, everyone knows it's good and they're correct. Kirk and Spock get stuck in the past together and it manages to be incredibly gay despite Kirk literally dating a woman. Excellent story. Spock wears a beanie.
3. The Trouble with Tribbles
Another one where I agree with the general sentiment: it's silly and fun and I will never tire of seeing Shatner buried in furry little potatoes. The Animated Series episode "More Tribbles, More Troubles" is a hilarious sequel.
2. Amok Time
The Spirk episode that started it all, featuring a fascinating look into the mix of uptight decorum and violent heritage that makes Vulcan culture so compelling. I did particularly enjoy the extremely awkward conversation between Kirk and Spock about "Vulcan biology" at the beginning. "It happens to the birds and the bees..."
1. The Devil in the Dark
Shatner's favorite ep and also mine. The acting is on point and seeing Spock yell "JIM!" with obvious concern on his face is just šš». I love the retro cheesiness of the paper mache caverns and the alien who looks like a lasagna; I love how testy Bones is about having to do first aid on said lasagna; I love the horror-like story structure and overarching message about understanding others. 100/10.

I would love to hear an overview of what MIOD is if you have one! I think I've seen all the designs before and they look wonderful but I desire to know the plot if there is any :]
THANK YOU FOR ASKING THIS
Iāll try to explain it without any spoilers or going on needless tangents that I can do a post about
Letās set the scene
MIOD follows Marcel (Bee-Human hybrid with social AND anger issues) as he is taken out of his secure Navy position by his father, Zeppelin who runs the world organization called MIOD. MIOD (or Macrocosm Institution of Discovery) is an organization that handles all magic instances, whether it be rouge magical creatures or abuse of magic, but mostly all the world governments they work with mainly just want protection from their H-BOTS (a droid made to supervise towns and collect magic evidence and help in magical threat). MIOD in the current situation just researches, deals with national and foreign affairs and educates the masses on magic (and that they should just never use it) BUT THATS WHERE MARCEL COMES IN!!
Marcel is brought in by Zeppelin and he meets 3 other people, Jen Pham (A Freelance Mechanic who was hired after she fixed Zeppelinās car at a record speed with perfection), Delilah Renee (An old friend of Marcelās who used to be a child star for an educational tv show MIOD used to have) and Josefina Pond (a stay-at-home parent who mainly worked for MIOD from home, conducting research for clean energy and homeschooling), Marcel also meets Josefinaās 9 year old daughter, Stella but she is quickly sent to the MIOD daycare. Zeppelin explains that MIOD recently started getting slandered by a certain counter group called EToM for their not so clean image that was brought by the recent dangerous malfunctions of the H-Bots which is why he needs a human team to bring back trust and help out in situations that the H-Bots arenāt best suited to handle as the Discovery team!
Stella usually sneaks onto these missions, and no one knows how, especially in their first mission where they go to Europe and deal with an ancient fire breathing dragon (MIOD is a speculative fiction-)
Eventually in their first mission they end up meeting EToM. Even though EToM has hundreds of members all around the globe, the main 3 that Marcel and his team always run into are Elliot (EToMās āteam leaderā who has robotic hands similar to an H-Bots), Anaya (the brawn of the team but the nicest one) William (a teenage vampiric bat who just follows his team around) and a hacked H-BOT (named a āE-BOTā, controlled by 2 people named Akrosa and Urvashi). Elliot especially holds a grief over Marcel for āchoosingā to be a leader for MIOD, and they become enemies. MIOD wins in defeating the dragon, but they now have to deal with EToM now- (and thatās basically the start of MIOD)
Thatās all I am going to explain FOR NOW, as I slowly start to roll out MIOD art, animatics and comics, as there are some things that arenāt what they seem by first read.
If you still have any MIOD Discourse related questions or you want to ask a specific OC, PLEASE ASK!!Ā
Here are their refs but keep in mind THESE ARE GETTING REDRAWN, but they are keeping their main elements

Yes furries (Marcel, Urvashi, William and Jaya) are normal members of society, not actual animals who live in the wild or captivity. They arenāt really magical creatures but some (aka all) are classified (By MIOD) as such since they āarenāt exactly human in physical traits or behaviorsā, For Example, William needs to consume blood as a normal part if his diet, and Urvashi and Jaya have sharper teeth and great agility/flexibility (yeah you can see what is about to happen-) ask to know more (although it will be really hard to explain this whole system)

"Is.. Is this on..? AH! WELCOME!"
Hello! I'm Fan!! It's very nice to meet you! Welcome to my blog!
You might be wondering.. "hey.. why did you make a blog??" and that's a GREAT question!
I am a communicator! Which means I get to transact messages and items between the outerworld and innerworld!! I don't have to run back and forth to get the response, I just.. get it!! It's like it's online!!!
I made this blog so people can send asks, questions, messages, etc to alters, without having to wait for who knows how long for a response!
While I DID make this blog as a Q&A / messaging blog, this is also my personal blog!! Please please feel free to interact with me aswell!!! I'd LOVE to talk to people!
With this being a multipurpose blog (and also just because I like organizing) - I've got a handy dandy tagging system!!
Letters From Space - any asks to alters!! basically the tag for communicating!
-> To : (name) - sorting for who the message is to!!
-> From : (name) - sorting for who the message is from. (Note that systems may get two of these, a collective and specific alter one!)
Features of Fan - my personal stuff!! ALL personal stuff will have this umbrella tag!!
The Fan is Fraying - Vent posts... I don't plan to have many but who knows!
My DNI is simple : No pedophilia, zoophillia, anti-agere/petre, anti-furry, anti-therian/otherkin, people who believe there's "evil" disorders, or discourse
Our main blog is @bites-and-crunches
I hope you enjoy my blog!! Have a good day!!

Drawing myself as a rabbit, I never really considered myself a "furry", but I guess I'm... furry adjacent? A little? And with hard Right "conservatism" wrecking lives en masse, it seems appropriate to remember that it's always been an issue wherever it crops up.

Hi, I'm sure you get this a lot so I apologize for the potential redundancy; I wanted to ask if you take offers on your daily creatures? They are so cute and I would genuinely love to adopt one
I believe this is the first time I've ever gotten an ask like this, actually!
I have never sold adoptables or character designs before and I'm really not sure how I feel about doing so.
Part of me is kinda like "what if this thing that is no longer mine ends up being the only good thing i've ever made" and while I know that I'm going to prove myself wrong in that regard because every so often I make a creature that breaks over 100 notes and I know that it will happen again eventually, I still have anxiety that one day I'll come up with a great idea to use with a creature design I made that I never particularly cared for before only to realize that I'm not able to do that anymore. While I'm aware that people who sell their character designs are often still credited as the designer in whatever that character ends up being used in despite the fact that they don't "own" that character anymore and that brings me some comfort, I still think about the kinds of situations like what happened with that "Making Fiends" cartoon, in which the creator pitched these characters and this world that she created that she was passionate about to Nickelodeon in order to make it into a real show only for it to be canned after six episodes and now she's not even allowed to continue it on her own anymore because Nickelodeon still owns the copyright. I know that example is on a scale involving giant powerful corporations as opposed to just individual internet furries engaging in a hobby, but I don't think the fear that something sort of akin to that could theoretically happen in a space like this is entirely unfounded or irrational.
I have never purchased any adoptables myself and I don't think I really want to. If I really felt like doing something with a character that already exists I feel like that's what fanart is for, and for myself personally, knowing that something is the way it is as a result of my own brain and my own hands feels a lot more satisfying in regards to considering anything to truly be "mine". I've also heard stories of people purchasing a design from someone only for them to turn around and go "actually i've decided that i hate you and think you're disgusting and that you can't have this anymore" over whatever the Discourse Of The Week⢠is, so there's also that.
This isn't me saying that other people are evil or stupid or whatever for deciding to buy and sell adoptables, I really don't care and more power to them if that's what they really wanna do, it doesn't affect me if I'm not involved, to each their own. I'm just saying that I'm not sure I'm personally comfortable in engaging in this whole adoptables thing myself given the potential risks involved that I'm able to recognize.
Regardless, I'm flattered that somebody thinks that my designs are good and have value.

ćIįTįOįŖįįTIOįć šš
Hey everyone! My name is Rosalind but I also go by Ross or Ros. OR you could call me by my internet names Blue or Bluemoon if youād like! (Itās a lot of names I know lol sorry. Just pick whatever).
Iām a 20yo artist, writer, and editor who will be mostly focusing on fanart, self ship, furry content, and maybe some cosplay on this blog. I do have a business focused on my published books, OCs, and editing services which you can find here if youāre interested. Iām more active over on those accounts since I work on that stuff almost full time now but I try and post fan/personal content when I can. This blog specifically will be a place for all my self indulgent interests. I may not be super active here but will try to anyway :)
ćįŖIįįįŖį©Iį°Eįć
Skip ahead to read more about me, my, interests, and who I ship with, etc. But in the meantime, I need to get this out of the way and say that I really wanna make new friends here but Iām also hesitant to rejoin any sort of self ship and/or fan communities because of how many horrible experiences Iāve had with them before. Perhaps Tumblr is different but I wanted to put this out here for my own peace of mind lol. So please be patient with me.Ā I grew up in fandom and self ship spaces that had constant arguments about literally everything. I didnāt even know what half of these discourses were even about and everything Iāve learned has been against my will. So no, this is not me ātaking a sideā, I just donāt want to be apart of drama anymore. My morals are this: live and let live unless youāre supporting/romanticizing anything immoral. If you have genuine critiques about how I portray certain things then definitely let me know since Iām always concerned about how I represent stuff, but aside from that, this is just a blog to talk about stuff I like so letās keep it chill please. š§āāļø
ćį©į·OįT į°Eć
āMy full name Rosalind B. Sterling (or you can call me by the other names listed above)
āIām 20 (covered that lol)
āIām bi and aroace (I also sometimes use the term procul but I donāt identify with it as a sexuality. Just an add on term for my asexuality to explain how my sexual attraction fades away once my relationship with someone becomes real).
āIām genderfluid and my pronouns are she/he/they
āIām mixed race/Puerto Rican
āIām neurodivergent (OCD, MaDD, and a few other things) so tone tags would be great to use around me but theyāre not required
āI currently live Ohio (yes Iāve heard all the jokes and theyāre honestly pretty accurate lmao)
āMy favorite colors are aqua, bright purple, hot pink, and neon green
ćį“/O'sć
Note: some of these characters might come from controversial media. I just like them for personal/creative/self indulgent reasons so donāt interact if these make you uncomfortable.
āMainā f/oās
(Putting this in quotes since I hardly ever talk about these characters nowadays. Theyāve just been my main for a while and I feel too attached to take them off the list)
āDan {Dan Vs.} (Started shipping 7 years ago)
āGary {Final Space} (Starting shipping 6 years ago).
Current main:
ā Alastor {Hazbin Hotel} (Started shipping 4 years ago) And before anyone comes after me with the ābut heās aroace!ā comments, I know that and I donāt erase it. Iām aroace too and kind of imagine him and my S/I being in a possible QPR type thing. I still have developing to do. I just like the thought of two aroaces hitting it off and bonding closely. I take a lot of comfort in him as a fellow aroace so leave me be please š
āThe Narrator and Stanley {The Stanley Parable} (This oneās a polyship and is pretty recent. Been shipping for about 7 months now)
Other f/oās:
āPinkie pie {MLP}
āReagan {Inside job}
āJinx {Arcane}
Other characters I like but don't consider f/oās:
āConnor {Detroit Become Human}
āThe Warden {Superjail}
āAndre {Inside Job}
āKen {Barbie Movie}
āMike {fnaf movie}
āļøRarity {MLP}
āReigen {Mob Psycho 100}
āArcher {Archer} (It's always the walking red flags that get me š)
Familial/platonic f/oās:
The only ones I can think of rn is Angel Dust from Hazbin Hotel. I kinda see them all like family tbh but specifically Angel Dust. Also maybe Kirk from Star Trek. Like weād definitely be besties Iām so fr.
Thereās probably more but Iād have to think about it.

āReagan {Inside job}
āBrett {Inside job}
āMoxxie {Helluvaboss}

āTina {Bobās burgers} (This oneās so funny to me but itās so true. Sheās literally me in every way possibleš)
Am I comfy sharing any of my f/os and kins?
Yes! Iām fine having doubles. I used to hate it a few years back but now that my mental health is a little more in check and I donāt have to rely on self shipping for major comfort like I used to, I no longer feel bothered by that. It was unhealthy anyway. Not to judge anyone who hates having doubles. I understand folks have pretty valid reasons for it. I just realized the attachment I had to these characters was turning into an unhealthy kind of obsession and was hurting me more than helping. Iām out of that place now luckily. I still self ship for comfort reasons but itās not as in ease as it was before and mostly just for funsies now. If you're comfy sharing and we have doubles, totally message me so we can gush and ramble together! I love doing that š«¶š

Putting this here too since I'll probbaly be sharing furry stuff whenever I get the chance. So here is my eyesore of a fursona which is a wolf/fox/bat hybrid with a scene kid aesthetic who looks like every middle school edgelord oc deisgn vomited into one character. But idc honestly. Iām not doing anything serious with her and am just having fun. I also might use her for self shipping if I end up F/Oing any anthro characters but idk.

And that's it! I hope I can meet some new friends and stuff but also predict that my reach won't be all that huge since I've never had massive luck with algorithms. Especially as of late. But if you're seeing this, don't be afraid to message me or interact! I love meeting new folks :3

Also no one ever talks about how sex negativity can interact with the idea of virgins being cringy losers. This comes up a lot in discourse around porn and masturbation. Porn is great and fun and masturbation is sexy and cool all until the person jerking off is a virgin (and might stay that way - might even stay that way willingly and happily!). Then it's sad, pathetic and possibly creepy. And god forbid the porn is anything but vanilla normie porn. If it's like furry porn or whatever, then that's free-game for mockery.

I've never been a furry but here's my take on it
Pretty much all of online discourse around furries comes from their presence in early 4chan, because it was one of the first online places where they congregated in great numbers. And it's from there that comes the idea that they are annoying and sex-obsessed.
But here's the thing:
of course they were annoying and sex-obsessed, this was a subset of furries that were also 4channers
the people saying this about furries and calling them sexual deviants did this between swapping loli porn
But 4chan was so formative to the internet in general that its take on furries just became general "knowledge". Even the XKCD strip defending furries makes its punchline the idea that the furry is easily turned on.
Just to clarify (because it's tumblr) it's fine for furries to be annoying and/or sex-obsessed, but it's an unfair view of furries as a category.
So yeah. I've never been a furry, but I too will defend them every time I can, because they've been the punchline of the internet for no reason since the early days
Never trust a furry disliker

'Is there an ultimate meaning to life?" Jordan Peterson cries. "Is there an ultimate good? Is there a God?" The famous voice - shrill, hoarse, reminiscent of Kermit the Frog - charges these abstract questions with an almost desperate urgency. Peterson is warmed up now, pacing the stage and talking with incredible fluency: God, western civilisation, marriage, sin, ultimate meaning. The audience at the 02, filled almost to its 20,000-seat capacity, interrupts regularly to applaud with the rapt unanimity of a North Korean Communist Party delegation. A friend seated right at the back of the arena texts: "This feels like a 19th-century religious revival meeting". And it really does. It is one of the strangest nights of my life. [...] Most interesting was the audience's class profile. With the exception of a few Oxbridge-looking student Tories strutting about the 02's precincts with haircuts, blazers and blaring accents, it was not a posh crowd. All of the people I spoke to had attended a non-elite university or no university at all. Sartorially, many of Peterson's fans were unexpectedly "Essex-y": glamorous girls with platinum blonde hair, big furry coats and high heels, clinging to their boyfriends in tight shirts and tighter trousers. It was an audience that felt very far from the worlds of elite discourse in which Peterson is intellectual enemy number one. A YouTube crowd, not a Twitter crowd. [..] The panel, frankly, was a bit of a mess. I have yawned through hundreds of these - four blokes chat about the challenges facing modern society - at a hundred provincial literary festivals. You can put a literary festival panel in the 02 arena but it does not fundamentally redeem the format. Peterson's guests were understandably keen to show off in front of the massive audience. But their efforts to elbow into the spotlight were thwarted by Peterson, who turned out (perhaps not unsurprisingly) to be the panel chairman from hell, prone to asking rambling incoherent questions about the ultimate good or embarking on long incomprehensible speeches about the great chain of being. You wouldn't get away with that behaviour at Hay-on-Wye. [...] Murray was the biggest hit with the crowd. He spoke in an extraordinarily languorous received pronunciation drawl and smiled to himself with an expression of almost deranged self-congratulation every time he made a point (contra Peterson's earlier contention, Murray does not give the impression of a man who finds that thinking about himself is synonymous with suffering). I got the impression Murray was attempting to muscle in on Peterson's self-help guru shtick as he kept fixing us with a look of infinite spiritual compassion and urging us "to look around you! Look up from your screen! Marvel! Be grateful for a moment!". Later he counselled gnomically: "What are the things we would be doing if we weren't distracted by the things we are distracted by." Eh? Oh well, the crowd loved it. [...] At last, after a final windy peroration from Peterson, the evening was over. All three hours of it. I walked into the cold North Greenwich rain feeling disturbed. It's one thing to see all this stuff - global utopians, lockdown tyranny, threats to western civilisation - flying about the internet. To witness it in real life is depressing. Is this nonsense the future of our politics? The thought is almost too bleak to contemplate. I'm beginning to think I need some sort of motivational self-help guru to cheer me up.
My long night with Jordan Peterson by James Marriott

Ooze #1
There's something I've noticed about being a writer: I can't seem to unshackle myself from the weight of expectations for myself. No creative act I do ever feels good enough; I'm always cutting myself off, trying to revise things halfway before I complete them the first time. This sort of self-sabotage is only made worse when writing feels like bearing myself naked in front of people--I suppose it's easier to show that nakedness in front of strangers on the Internet.
I never really used the Internet growing up. I was always on it, but I never participated in anything. I was a voyeur of online subcultures, and always knew a little too much about what furries or otaku or Dungeons & Dragons players I encountered in real life were talking about, but I never made it known to anyone and didn't leave behind a sort of digital footprint out of the fear that had been drilled into me since I was a kid that any sort of post would come back to bite me in the ass. I now see just how much you can do online and get away with, and I know myself well enough to know that I am not someone who wishes to enact harm, and with a willingness to grow, it's really only cowardice on my part that keeps me from participating in the great online discourse.
So, to anyone who may be reading this, you've happened across a little corner of mine where I am naked in my interests, idiosyncrasies, hobbies and beliefs. I'm a furry, I like anime, I draw, I'm a DM, I write fantasy, I'm Puerto Rican, I'm queer, I'm a nerd, I'm anxious, I'm here.
Thank you for being here with me.

even at my most morally scrupulous my friends Who are not furries have had to deal w me ranting about feral discourse and for that i really do owe everyone like. apology cupcakes
but it will always be the stupidest shit to me. in the FURRY FANDOM? BY OTHER FURRIES??? from ppl outside the fandom its inevitable bc they dont have the implicit "this is all fantasy representations of humans and not Actual literal animals" mindset that you like, buy into when you join the fandom. BUT. OTHER FURRIES DO. OSTENSIBLY. understand that anything you draw is largely under the umbrella of "this is a representation of a human or otherwise sentient sapient creature. who walks and talks and thinks and speaks like we do."
but to newgen furries. if you draw nsfw feral. U must be a zoophile bc youre sexualizing literal animals. and for some of them it isnt even abt the genitals bc like, knots on anthros are okay, so its literally just, about, being on four legs. Thats the problem. is that the thing your sexualizing doesnt have prominent enough shoulders. depending on the art style... some ppl draw anthros with paws so its not like "well its the paws!!" some ppl draw anthros in a way that, if theyre not actively bipedal, its hard to tell if theyre anthro or feral. ive seen artists get banned and harrassed for drawing werewolf porn bc it Wasnt Clear Enough whether it was an anthro or. a feral. ITS A WEREWOLF!!!!!!THEYRENKT EVEN REAL*
*point stands for other things such as pokemon, dragons, and Like dinosaurs are real but theyre also extinct and no dinosaur is at risk of getting zoophile'd anytime soon so
like it is just an INSANE discourse to me that is so subjective. bc again, at a certain point youre just policing art styles. i keep wanting to make more furry friends and then i remember that a great deal of newgen furries are Fucking Crazy and its like oh wait no i just have to wait it out, i guess. god it sucks so BAD U PPL HAVE A FUNDAMENTAL MISUBDERSTANDING OF SEX AND SEXUALITY ANX IM TIIIIIIIRED OF IT
And like yeah knots arent actually safe from this bc ive def seen an encroaching attitude of "God ew why are other furries so obsessed with literal dog dick youre all disgusting porn brained zoophiles š¤¢" AND AGAIN, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW ONE DECIDES TO JOIN THE FANDOM IF THIS IS WHAT THEY THINK OF PPL. Personally if i thought a community was full of zoos i would Simply Not Join but idk thats just me. nevertheless its literally untrue. ive said this before but most of the time ppl just Like it when the dick does smth different. normal normie ppl who arent furries rock heavy w omegaverse and werewolf erotica. Like. god!! Not everyone is a sex criminal!!!!
