so we saw one of swanatello's good days . . . how do the bad days go? :eyes: don't mind me i feed on angst~
Swanatello is Guardian of The Lake and is extremely territorial and protective. The brothers have to take turns and visit him one at a time-- if they approach as a group, Swanatello will quickly grow defensive and view them as a threat. They've learned by now that if he's not able to recognize them, the best thing to do is back off and try again tomorrow.
... Mostly learned, anyway.
(The next time Leo's able to visit properly, Donnie will worriedly ask him what happened to his wrist.)

a white haired guy is childhood friends with a dark haired guy who is more righteous and kind than him and the dark-haired guy teaches the white haired guy the meaning of doing the right thing and being nice to others (not killing them) before he goes off somewhere the white-haired guy can’t protect him and subsequently becomes a murderous villain with the goal of creating a perfect world (in part for the white-haired guy), rejecting the very morals that he taught the white-haired guy to embrace.
they reconcile right when the dark haired guy is about to die (the white haired guy is told to do it and has a large part in it). there’s also magical eye fuckery and a very big and significant identity reveal about the living status of the black haired guy that devastates the white-haired guy. they are also forced to kill each other. there is also struggle with identity and loyalty and following rules you dont agree with for the sake of the greater good.
now: kakaobi or satosugu???

Shortly after Madoka Magica released (to great success), everyone started trying to make the next big "magical girl misery" anime. I think the reason those ones didn't really take off is because they missed the point of Madoka: the love of others and self-sacrifice is center stage, and we only really feel bad for the characters of Madoka Magica because we see them happy.
Madoka Magica isn't just a misery fest; Mami's death matters because we understand Mami's dreams and struggles, Sayaka becoming Oktavia is impactful because we see her downfall that isn't her fault (or anyone's for that matter). Madoka (and to a secondary extent, Homura) never give up hope or trying.
Madoka isn't constantly victimised and abused (unlike some over-the-top edgy magical girl animes I know) she's in tragic circumstances and still tries her best; still WANTS the best for the world around her.
Making something sad isn't about how much we see a character suffer and struggle; it's about making the struggles and suffering they go through impactful through their story. Wants, relationships, traits, and flaws... That's what makes a character's pain painful for an audience.

you know how in a lot of magical girl shows the main character has more chemistry with a female teammate or best friend than her male love interest who they force on her even though he has the personality of cardboard? sayaka miki's arc is the opposite of that and i love it.

Prompt 55
Bruce absolutely despises magic right now. Absolutely hates it. It’s hard enough to balance everything as is, but now he has to go back to being a social hermit (thank fuck) and even pause vigilante work (gotham damn it all).
If someone could break this stupid cat curse on the entire family, blood or no, that would be great. Or if perhaps the League could stop laughing and Selina could leave him alone that’d be amazing.

Is "Gushing over Magical Girls" good?
Yeah, I enjoyed it. People have different definitions of what "is it good" means, so I don't know if it's exactly YOUR type of good, but if you know what the show is about and it's got you curious, then yeah, I would recommend it.
For a more drawn-out answer, you can also read this review I wrote for it on my website, where I talk about using fictional stories like this one to safely process and revisit sexual awakenings and such. The review also lists off a few similar shows you can check out as well!

so i started this show and it just gets worse and worseeeee not only did it lift the romance subplot directly from twilight (and not well) but they also are trying to play the forbidden love angle hard in the fantasy racism vein except it's a "cross-species" relationship between the two whitest people i've ever seen in my life and there are three people of color in the whole (first season of the) show who aren't villains and it seems that every other episode (and sometimes ebery episode and sometimes twice an episode!) there is a man physically or magically subjugating a woman and i keep waiting for the big reveal at the end to be stolen from fucking rainbow rowell

i think you can give a million reasons why rezero is different from generic isekai because its a subversion or deconstruction, but at the end of the day thats not really the important part. i think what really sets it apart is how much love there is for it in its creation. its not a cheap cashgrab banking off of nerdy power fantasies, nor is it soulless in its characters and worldbuilding... theres so much care and effort put into it by tappei, and by the people adapting it into an anime, by the voice actors and sound designers and everything. theres so much love for the individual characters as more than flat tropes, and for the world they live in to be fleshed out, and for the main character's arc and struggles beyond being an isekai protag. i think anyone can take an isekai and make it dark, but without love it would be just as soulless as any other generic isekai. and remember, love is what the story is all about.
