Hello! Sorry to be a bother but I was wondering if you knew what type of creature Erlang Shen turned into in his Kaiju battle with the chosen one. The form he took that looked like a bluish chubby lion.

No, no, that is a great question because it is very interesting!

In fact a lot of people have been asking why is Erlang Shen in the form of an Azure Lion. And yes that is what the form is called.

In fact it leads to a lot of people speculating if Erlang Shen's true form is the Azure Lion as we see other hints of other celestial soldiers showing to take inspiration from the Great Peng and the White Elephant. We see that the celestial soldiers were all in bird-like attire suggesting that perhaps one of them could have been the Great Peng (or even the Supreme Celestial Inspector). And the Gaint Spirit God was wearing elephant armor, hinting that he could have been the White Elephant in the story.

There were at least SEVEN chapters cut from the final game due to time constraints. And the Camel Ridge trio, being from celestial animals could have been one of the many chapters that were cut out but we still see it in the game. (hopefully maybe in future DLCs)

I have said it before but Black Myth Wukong DOES take a lot of liberties as it follows more of the Bio of Wukong worldbuilding than being directly inspired by Journey to the West. So with that in mind, there could be no limitations to how the developers wished to change Yaoguai's backstory to make them more fleshed out and this could have been one of them.

We do however also get this segment of Wukong's and Erlang's first fight when they were in their Large Forms in chapter 6.

When Erlang turned into his cosmic body we see that he is described to have a "green (azure) face" and "sabor-toothed figure". This could also be why in some interpretations of Erlang Shen we see him have blue skin!

Surprisingly a not uncommon trope for Erlang to be seen with different colored skin to make him "other" so to speak. The game devs could have taken this concept and were planning on even going further with tying Erlang Shen to the Azure Lion along with other celestial soldiers rather than having them being bodhisattva's beasts. We have seen that Black Myth Wukong doesn't really separate Western Heaven from Eastern Heavsn as definitively as in Journey to the West and this could be another example of how they were planning on merging the mythological figures together.

This is all just speculative theorizing! It is hard to say where the devs could have gone with this. Is Erlang Shen a disciple of Manjushri Bodhisattva similar to the Yellow Wind Demon was to Lingji Bodhisattva? (please note that you can have more than one master and Erlang having a second master after Yuding similar to Wukong and Puti) Do all heavenly animals have a humanoid form like how we see the Zodiac Animals? Was this the devs just wanting to be creative with Erlang's cosmic form and hinting at something more for the sake of ambiguity?

The best I can say is that it could have been an idea for another chapter where the Camel Ridge Trio was further explored. Or it could have just been the dev team really wanting to make Erlang's cosmic form as monstrous as possible and was not meant to be connected to Manjushri Bodhisattva's Azure Lion.

But considering how much the dev team has changed within Black Myth, making many of the Yaoguai's backstories different (Yellow Wind, Spider Sisters, Red Boy, Yellow Brow) I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to do the same to the Camel Ridge Trio.

Peng Doesn't Like Farts

Fans of Lego Monkie Kid, as many of you may already know, Peng is based on an ancient monster king appearing in chapters 74 to 77 of  Journey to the West (Xiyouji, 西遊記, 1592). In the end of his arc, he is trapped above the Buddha's throne and submits to Buddhism. But you may not know that this very same character appears in a later novel, The Complete Vernacular Biography of Yue Fei (Shuo Yue quanzhuan, 說岳全傳, 1684 CE; a.k.a. The Story of Yue Fei). Peng is exiled from paradise for ... and I'm not joking ... killing a stellar spirit for farting during the Buddha's sermon.

Chapter one of Yue Fei's biography reads:

Let’s talk about the Buddha Tathagata at the Great Thunderclap Monastery in the Western Paradise. One day, he sat on a nine-level lotus throne, and the Four Great Bodhisattvas, the Eight Great Vajra Warriors, the five hundred Arhats, the three thousand Heavenly Kings, nuns and monks, male and female attendants, all of the heavenly sages who protect the Dharma, gathered to listen to his lecture on the Lotus Sutra. His words were like flowers and precious jewels raining from the heavens. But, at that time, a star-spirit, the Maiden Earth Bat, who had been listening to the lecture from beneath the lotus throne, couldn’t bear it any longer and unexpectedly let out a stinky fart. The Buddha was a great, merciful lord, so he didn’t mind even the slightest bit. But don’t sympathize with the Dharma protector above his head, the “Great Peng, the Golden-Winged King of Illumination,” whose eyes shone with golden light and whose back was a scene of auspiciousness. He became angry when he saw the nasty, filthy Maiden Earth Bat, and so he unfurled both his wings and dropped down to kill the spirit by pecking her on the head. The light-point of her soul shot out of the Great Thunderclap Monastery and went to the Lands of the East (China) in the world below to find a mother and reincarnate. She was reborn as a daughter of the Wang clan. She would later marry the Song Prime minister Qin Hui (1091-1155) and come to cruelly kill the righteous (i.e. Yue Fei) as a means to get revenge against today’s enemy. We will talk about this later. Let’s return to the Buddha, who saw what happened with his all-seeing eyes and exclaimed, “Good! Good! It turns out that this is an episode of karma (cause and effect).” Then he called the Great Peng bird to come closer and shouted, “You evil creature! You already took refuge in my teachings. How can you not follow the five precepts by daring to commit such a horrible crime? I don’t need you here; you will descend to the mortal world to pay off your (karmic) debt and wait until you have fulfilled your work. Once that is completed, only then will I allow you to return to the mountain to achieve the right fruit (Buddhist merit).” The Great Peng complied with the decree, flying out of the Great Thunderclap Monastery directly to the Lands of the East to be reincarnated. So after Azure dies we know Peng fled the battle, right?

I just thought of Peng holding onto Azure's cloak as they cried into it, knowing they have lost so much all because of they're cocky and selfish attitude.

They have already lost their sister, niece, nephew and now the one person they thought would never leave them in such a painful way.

"I'm sorry..."

They sobbed through they're tears, the guilt and sadness stabbing they're heart like a dagger.

Art School AU, spoilers for S4-

oKAY, but now I have to add Azure Lion, Golden Winged Great Peng, and Yellow Toothed Elephant to the AU. All three of them used to be in the crime syndicate that Wukong used to have.

Peng and Elephant offer a blacksmith class that deals in ancient weapons and how to use said weapons. Like DBK, they were in prison but their crimes were in assault and grand thievery.

Azure managed to avoid prison time and used to be a lawyer. He met Wukong once, fell head over heels, and decided to quit a very cushy but soul-draining job to work with him. He’s a new part of the school board (which is how Peng and Elephant managed to create the blacksmith class) and offers to sponsor the Traffic Light Trio in an art competition which they take, offering inspiration with the calligraphy he enjoys doing.

I was re-reading some of the Primal Moon stuff and I just kept thinking... If this is how badly everyone else gets affected, imagine how Chang'e gets during the Primal Moon!!!

Primal Moon Tier List

Actually… Chang’e is doing just about the same as canon! She’s a little lonely to be on her own, and a little worried for the world down below… but she’s managing!

For reference, here’s what I’ve workshopped for Primal Moon so far!

Humans and Celestials, if they have no animalistic features or demonic heritage, are unaffected by the creeping Viridescence, and are therefore free of any harmful effects of the lunar cycle. Which gives us a total of eleven characters (temporarily twelve with Seasons 1-3 MK) who are left the same in Primal Moon.

As for the others, with potential targets outside of Y/N listed in parentheses…

Sun Wukong is a monkey, c’mon. He; by the very nature of his species, needs company and affection. So what if he snatches up a darling cub (or two) from the streets and bundles them home as they kick and scream for help anticipate a week long stay with the Great Sage Equal to Heaven. He’ll dote and smother until you’re all worn out from begging for your freedom receiving his affection to tuck the both of you into bed, ready to spend a quarter of the month in a frenzy of familial love. (MK, Macaque, Ne Zha, Tang Sanzang, Ao Lie, Zhu Baije, Sha Wujing)

The Azure Lion has been burdened by primal want for family since his earliest days in the Celestial Realm, quite often being “given” a still-young Ne Zha to coddle, sitting for hours with the little deity in his lap, grooming his hair to perfection with a massive tongue. But that was centuries ago, and now he needs someone new to “parent”… most likely being Y/N. (Sun Wukong, Macaque, Peng, Yellowtusk, DBK, young Ne Zha, MK, Mei, Red Son)

Bereft of his lover, Kui Mulang devolves into a more merciful and someone brooding individual, sometimes refusing to devour souls even when the ones presented to him are choice selections. He mostly manages to compose himself, however- until a pup or kit is presented to him, at which point he slowly begins to mold them into the “perfect child” for him and his lovely Jade Maiden- and he’s sure that she’ll love Y/N as much as he does. (MK, Mei)

Arrogant as they may be, the Golden-Winged Peng is indeed still an avian, with powerful brooding instincts. They have some vested interest in little stragglers and chicks, souls who haven’t found their footing yet. If you have wings of some kind, expect lots of flying lessons and feather cleaning. For younger or smaller individuals, Peng will frequently perform brooding, though in a very gentle way- they’ll have you sit on their lap and then squish themselves all around you with feathery neck fluff and muscular arms and then their golden wings over all that to firmly ensnare you. (Macaque if he’s much younger than they are, Mei)

The Spider Queen isn’t usually interested in making heirs- she wants the throne all to herself for as long as she can have it… but if a charming and powerful individual were to wander into her sewers, maybe the lady wouldn’t red be able to deny herself an attempt at courting them? After all, a child of your blood and hers would be a magnificent creation (and weapon) indeed- although the means of birth would be by magic. She doesn’t have any interest in nine months of pain or suffering, after all. (Sun Wukong, Macaque, Demon Bull King and Princess Iron Fan, Scorpion Queen)

As always, our lonely Scorpion Queen longs for companionship in any form, be it partner or paramour. Expect her to try and hook up with the friendliest face she can find, often in the form of the sweet little mortals who go hiking past her lair in an attempt to separate from the wildness of the city. After all, maybe a little darling child would help ease her loneliness! (Tang, Pigsy)

Huntsman is out on the streets looking for a suitable partner, not necessarily for want of a lover so much as he wants his pick of the “superior” stock showing off their strength to lure in mates- the thought of having a child to pass on all his knowledge to doesn’t exactly deter the arachnid. However, he’d be content with “just” getting a lifelong sparring partner out of it.

After the death of his beloved son, Ao Guang goes from “almost unaffected” by the rising moon to borderline delusional. He usually stays locked up tight inside his chambers, away from anyone who he might “confuse” with his departed Ao Bing. If one seems to be young in either appearance or behavior, he’s not unlikely to snatch them up and spirit them away to his chambers for a week of grief-fueled doting. If one outright looks similar to the dragon prince, expect him to treat them as a reincarnation or descendant. (Mei, Ao Lie)

Ao Lie tries to step up and take care of those around him, but tends to stumble and fail along the way as his mind deteriorates. There’s some bass understanding of the world (eg: fire burns, raw meat sickens, clothes keep you warmth) but a lot of the finer details are lost on him. Still, he just wants to help! If his target/targets outright reject this behavior/try to run, Lie will assume draconic form and wrap them all up in his massive green coils. (Mei, Sun Wukong, Tang Sanzang, Zhu Bajie, Sha Wujing)

If anyone is “losing it” mentally, Xiangliu probably shows it the clearest. There are moments of blatant hysteria as he screams about “monsters” and “chaos” and “caves”, pounding cracks into the tiles beneath his feet and etching his feelings across the walls of any residence- and then he’s horribly silent and withdrawn, each little snake on his head leering and limp. It’s hard to tell what he actually wants, given that he’ll never communicate outside of hysterical shrieking and wanton destruction. (Sun Wukong)

Macaque’s most blatant changes are internal, the Viridescence stripping his inner inhibitions away- unlike Red Son below, this doesn’t manifest in tears or desperate pleas for love, but a wide spur of self-injurious behavior that displays itself in many forms- often trending towards stereotypies such as overeating, scratching away skin, and picking out clumps of hair. For “his own good”, Macaque tends to be the victim of other demons during the moon’s rising.

Twice a year Red Son makes himself a promise- “This time I won’t break,” he says to himself, working through a dozen new techniques and tactics to try and prevent himself from cracking and falling apart in a messy puddle of tears… all of which fail in a tidy little row, leaving poor Red Boy to weep into the lap of whoever his mother has kidnapped to tend to him… he’s actually mostly in his right mind, just incapable of biting back his tongue or tears, allowing potential romance to bloom as the verdant moon rises. (MK, Mei)

As for Mei, she’s… well, an entirely different person in Primal Moon. She’s spent so very long being taught to constantly repress herself in order to keep others from harm and agony, which the poor girl always has on her mind, no matter the day or circumstance. She’s quieter, clumsier, lonelier. She speeds on busy roads, plays with lighters, trauma-dumps to her followers… deep down, Mei believes that her inevitable fate is to be a monster. At some point this belief leads her true nature to unlock under the power of the Viridescence, causing Mei to transform into a dragon and start hoarding “treasure”… often in the form of her dearest friends/romantic interests. (MK, Red Son)

Like I’ve gone over before, MK grows extremely unstable after spending years perfectly suppressing his demonic heritage- like a spring wound too tight, he just snaps. He’s one of the few that grows legitimately violent with any “darling” he might have, forcing them to become troop-mates. He willingly falls under the command of Sun Wukong, who has become equally delusional. It’s not impossible for them to build a “troop” made entirely out of kidnapped friends and family. (Mei, Red Son, Macaque)

Though the Demon Bull King’s behavior towards his wife alone would put him halfway in the “looking for a mate” category, his behavior towards everyone else (minus Red Son) is extremely violent to the point of essentially returning to his former warlord days- and unlike many others on this list, doesn’t even bother to fight his desires. He’s just... letting go. And everyone else is left to suffer for it. The only way he ends up with a new “family member” is if he either talks Iron Fan into a new child, or she kidnaps a mortal herself to take care of Red Son.

Sha Wujing just... regresses. Back to his bone pit, to constant fighting, to streams of blood flooding his lonely river. Back to before the monk and his dear brothers. Everything just... smears to a splash of bright red and he settles for grinding anything he finds “upsetting”. Most of this is born of blind fear and repressed sorrow, so Wukong (if he’s holding himself together) is usually sent to bear Wujing’s mighty swings one after the the other as he moves in for a hug. Once the big blue giant has cooled off and come to his senses, he’s utterly overwhelmed with guilt at the sight of all Wukong’s bruises and cuts, and spends the next week taking care of him like a little brother.

As a goddess from time immemorial, Nüwa is… a little “out of touch“ when it comes to interacting with mortals. You can’t spend a handful of forevers hiding away and come out of it with stunning social skills, after all. She’s not exactly skillfully soft, but doesn’t see the need to be horribly cruel or vicious with. When the lunar haze from above softens her inhibitions, Nüwa turns to undermining the agency of her ward, subtly working to convince them that she- and she alone- can tend to their needs. (MK)

In his current state, Sandy really is the most “harmless” a yandere can be, settling for only the very occasional drugging to keep you complacent and docile while the musclebound monster man pampers you through the settling haze. The only thing changed by the Primal Moon’s impact is that Sandy becomes much more willing to verbally strike down the notion of independence by guilt-tripping you into staying “to keep him calm” as he wraps your smaller form in thick fleece blankets and pours another cup of tea with a strange layer of film on the top. Goliath doesn’t mind the viridescence too much, all things considered- more than ever during the event so people want to fight, so he’s never too busy “thinking” or “planning”- he’ll just pummel down any threat to his Queen and drag the body off to be converted into a fellow spider demon. The only real difference is that he’s not afraid to drag you out to bear witness to the growing violence and danger bred under the verdant lunar light, and then force you to patch his wounds as a show of the “affection” he expects you to have.

Already something of a troublemaker, Zhu Bajie mostly remains his old self during the semi-annual event, knowing which cards to play to get the Great Monk to do as he pleases, often to either his own or Sun Wukong’s detriment. Now he’ll direct that worsening (and at times downright malicious) manipulative behavior to you, trying to second-handedly browbeat you into submission. It’s not even that Bajie understands why- the moon just fucks his brain up so bad that he doesn’t bother pushing back against the notion that you should suffer for his own amusement.

Throughout many centuries, Yellowtusk has trained long and hard to repress the worst of his instincts, to utterly astounding success. When not working with his sworn brothers, the pachyderm demon is traveling about to aid little mortals in need, though his brain is just fogged enough to disregard basic autonomy and personal boundaries. The big guy ends up pretty “hands-on” as a result, often holding and moving about mortals like dolls.

Given that he was an actual human to start with, Syntax works the opposite of MK- he’s not just “not repressing” the moon, it simply has no impact on him. Then upon his baleful transformation, Syntax just… isn’t all that different. You can change a body, but not the soul beneath it. He’s still a person, deep down.

Mr. and Mrs. Dragon have put themselves under the same rigorous training that they ensured Mei underwent, leaving them mostly untouched by any form of enthralling bestial behavior, both rather rational and composed. Still, they aren’t exactly above snatching up maybe a new worker -cook or maid or cleaner- from a lower class to “dote on” through the week- and if that individual is young enough they may well pursue adoption when the haze lifts.

If there is one thing about Peng that makes me sad is how people just treat him like a asshole I mean yeah in the clips in the show he does seem like a asshole but well…lemme explain.

I believe he is more then what people see him as especially considering the myths about him and some stuff in the clips if you don’t know Peng was also known as king Garuda the king of birds in Indian mythology (both Hindu and Buddhism)

his mother and father were Kashyapa and Vinata he is the half brother of the Devas, Gandharvas, Daityas, Danavas, Nāgas, Vanara and Yakshas and younger brother of Aruna he is also known as the sworn uncle of the Buddha himself and now you may say to me “well no wonder he is selfish or whatever”

well I didn’t get into his life yet and note I shall copy and paste this

“Kashyapa's two wives, Vinata and Kadru, wanted to have children, so he granted each of them a boon. Kadru asked for one thousand Naga sons, but Vinata only asked for two, yet each an equal to all of Kadru's thousand sons. Kashyapa blessed them, and then retreated to a forest to meditate. Later, Kadru gave birth to one thousand eggs while Vinata gave birth to two. After incubating them for five hundred years, Kadru's eggs hatched and out came all of her sons. Vinata, eager for her own sons, impatiently broke one of her eggs. From this egg emerged the partially formed Aruna, although he looked like the morning sun, he was not as bright as the midday sun as promised. Aruna chided his mother, Vinata for her impatience, and warned her to not break open the second egg, cursing her to be a slave until his brother rescued her. Aruna then left to become the charioteer of Surya, the sun god. Vinata waited, and after many years the second egg hatched, and Garuda was born

After losing a bet to Kadru through trickery, Vinata was forced to become her slave. Garuda later asked his brothers to free his mother from her slavery, to which they demanded amrita from heaven. Garuda waged a war against gods with his extraordinary might and abilities beyond thinking, and defeated all of them, including King Indra. He then took Indra's nectar vessel and flew back to earth. Vishnu then came to Garuda, and asked him to be his ride, to which he agreed. Indra requested that Garuda not give the amrita to the Nagas though, as it would bring great trouble later, so they forged a plan. Upon reaching his brothers Garuda placed the vessel before them, and asked them to first purify themselves before drinking. Meanwhile, Jayanta, the son of Indra, stole the vessel back. Upon returning, the Nagas were all devoured by Garuda”

so practically Peng was the son of a Slave and had to kill his own brothers (and practically cousins) to free his own mother

Now in Buddhism it’s abit different

In this his slibing tried to kill the Buddha they almost died the celestials stop him but either way you look both is pretty dark I mean imagine you’re slibing tried to eat the fucking Buddha and almost died

from what we seen he just has a ego and asshole well I believe he is more then that (cause well…azure doesn’t seem to be the type to like be friends with a asshole) and from what we seen Peng seems rude but not as rude to his friends sure he gives some insults to macaque but he also kinda insulted wukong but other then that he doesn’t really treat them all horribly

To me he just has hard time being friendly to others but he genuinely does seem to care for his friends hell he showed a lot of worried for azure when he was in pain Peng shows he cares in his own way he maybe abit egotistical admittedly but like he does care for his brothers

and what’s worse what happens in the season 4 special now I may hate that special a lot but like doesn’t change the fact Peng is practically the only one who managed to ran away

imagine how he must feel his best friend his brother is DEAD his other brother is now in prisoned and everyone is celebrating in the beach I mean I be pretty pissed off and hurt and it sucks cause it seems we are never gonna see Peng again or tusk or azure

they deserved more then how the fans or the show treats them especially Peng and azure I just wish we could have seen more of Peng softer side though

Mini Mac # 44 : I love you

It's confession time! Finally it was time

Macaque was controlling the shadows. He made them flow in his hands, made them pull him up when he stumbled (it happened quite often after the loss of his eye). He wanted to be stronger. He remembered the helplessness that seized him when Peng charged upon him. The only thing he was able to do was curl to protect his precious pups. He wanted to do more. He wanted to be their shield, to be their sword, to be their guardian.

He woke up yesterday, he knew he should rest, but he couldn't help but train his hold over the darkness. He was not as tall as the other creatures roaming this earth. Not as strong. But he had weapons of his own. He thought of a giant of shadows. Taller than houses, taller than mountains, if he managed to do this, he would be able to protect his cubs.

Macaque flicked his wrist and the shadows flicked in response. It would take time to be able to create something this massive, but he knew he could do it. He was distracted by a demanding chirp. Macaque stopped commanding the shadows and turned towards the silk crib. Savage was blinking open, her tiny eyes veiled by a thin layer of slumberish tears. She pawed at the silk cover in frustration. Her brother was tightly curled around his lil doll, dead to the world around him. Macaque approached the crib, immediately Savage began to pawe harder, trying to reach for the black-furred monkey.

Macaque took the lil hands of his daughter and squeezed them. Her little fingers curled around his much larger ones. “I'm here, blossom. I'm here.” Savage squinted, trying to see through the blurry slumberish tears. She calmed down when she recognized Macaque and closed her eyes. She woke up every hour to check if he was near. Macaque didn't dare to get away from the crib. It would break his heart if Savage woke up and she couldn't find him near.

The lil devil chirped, satisfied, and squeezed her doll. She dived back to the lands of dreams. Macaque smiled, he caressed her face and brushed away the strands of fur falling in her eyes. The black-furred monkey then turned towards his son and cupped his chubby cheeks, he playfully pinched his baby fat and delighted in his son's lil frown.

“They're sleeping?” Macaque turned around at the soft whisper, Wukong sat beside him and gazed at the pups with fondness. Macaque nodded.

Both monkeys stood in silence, they cooed reassuringly each time one of the cub began to stir.

“I, huh, I wanted to take you somewhere and confess something.” Awkwardly chuckled Wukong. He scratched his neck, his ears reddening in embarrassment. “But I think I'll do it here. The cubs don't want you to get away.”

Macaque remembered that Wukong promised to “steal him away” the day before. He felt his heart skip a beat at thought. It was a very… ambiguous phrasing. The lil warrior turned around and gazed at the slumbering pilgrims to calm down. The moon was at its highest. Shining upon them with a pale light. Wukong played with his fingers for a few minutes. Macaque could hear his heart accelerate. Nerves, perhaps.

The great sage took a deep breath and pulled a little scroll from his heart-pocket. He handed it to Macaque with red cheeks.

Macaque carefully took the scroll and unfolded it. His eyes widened. It was a portrait of him. He was smiling, the curve of his lips soft like silk, his six ears fanned out delicately, reminiscent of an angel's wings. He looked… enchanting. His black fur was covered with the golden luster of the sun, and his eyes were curved like a moon crescent. Wukong even included his fresh scar on his left eye….Macaque gulped, he felt a knock form itself in his throat. It would be a lie to say he didn't feel self-conscious about his scar. He didn't like how it marred his face. He thought his milky white eye was dull. Dead. But Wukong drew it so beautifully. Like a precious pearl lightened by passion itself.

“This is…” Mumbled Macaque with a tight voice. He felt tears nipp at his eye.

Wukong opened his mouth and closed it a few times, as if the words were stuck behind his teeth. Macaque looked up at him with curiosity. The great sage face was becoming redder and redder.

“I love you!” He blurted out in a moment of a panick.

Macaque stood frozen. Feelings bloomed inside of him. His face erupted in vibrant red and his ears fluttered.

“Wait, wait!” Panicked Wukong. “I - I had a speech ready and a lot to say. And, no, wait. Forget that and let me do it again.” Wukong took a deep breath and confessed “Y-you were here for me-”

“I love you too!” Cut Macaque with a squeaking voice. He couldn't hold those words back anymore. They slipped out of his lips without him even noticing.

Wukong blinked, surprised, and his fur puffed out. They gazed at each other for a bit. Not knowing what to say after this.

“Really?” Asked Wukong with hope.

“Y-yeah.” Nodded Macaque.

The great sage tentatively offered his hand for the little monkey, Macaque stepped on it and gulped, his heart exploding in his chest. Wukong brought Macaque to his face, they both stared each other in the eye. Then they both erupted in laughter, overcome with joy. Macaque grabbed Wukong's fur, he hugged his snout and, in a bold move, kissed the tip of it. Wukong blushed and smiled, his eyes shining with delight.

“I love you.” Repeated Wukong. “I love you so much”

“I love you too.” Chuckled Macaque as he pressed himself against Wukong's face, grabbing as much as the other as he could to hug and cuddle.

They both stayed close, until they were interrupted by grumpy chirps. Savage was blinking open, awakened by their commotion. Both monkeys chuckled at their daughter's narrowed gaze.

Wukong lowered Macaque, and the lil guy came to his daughter's side, reassuring her.

“I'm here, blossom. Dad is here.” Macaque hesitated a bit, before adding. “Your Pa is here too.” Wukong stiffened, but then he smiled brightly and leaned over the crib, curling around it.

“We're both here.” Softly whispered Wukong.

Do you think you could make a list from the strongest demon king to the weakest?

Maybe Wukong's sworn brothers other than the demon bull king wouldn't be included because we never see them fight (although I understand they fought alongside Wukong when he rebelled against heaven?)

I could only give out a rough outline since I'm not really a 'power scaler' and honestly it's hard to say if by strong you mean the most difficult or if they had powerful attacks. Most of Wukong's worst fights aren't, particularly because his enemies were physically powerful but just had a strong weapon or a single powerful attack while being a glass canon.

While Wukong's sworn brothers did join the fight against heaven, their own armies were captured. Not sure if this was to reflect Wukong's favoritism toward his own monkeys or to show how his sworn brothers were outclassed but I am not even going to try to guess.

So this will be more of a list of Wukong Most DIFFICULT fights to the easiest fights.

This is my personal take on the Demon Kings and as you can see, I did include demons that aren’t technically Demon Kings but rather the main antagonist in their arc. This also doesn't include ALL the demons or any gods or immortals that Wukong has fought with either, these are just the Demon Kings (or at least demons that are the big bad in their arcs) so there are still other antagonists that are in the book on here.

I am solely going on how the fights went in my notes and what I can remember so if you remember these fights going differently and actually want to add any details please let me know. I didn't include anything that the demons like 'claim' to have or powers or feats that they have done, just what they ACTAULLY did in the story, cause actions speak louder than words.

There could be grey area with the demons with magic items. And you could argue how easily the demons that caused Wukong the most damage were easily defeated by other gods just because they could bypass their one (1) magic spell gimic that was just giving Wukong trouble. Two of these Demon Kings were taken out by the SAME ROOSTER just because they are insect demons and roosters are their natural enemies. So take that as you will... Other demons Kings were defeated just cause their owner showed up before they could really fight too.

Buddhist Deities Exiled From the Western Heaven

My new article examines the reasons why three Buddhist deities from Ming-Qing vernacular Chinese literature are exiled from the Western Heaven.

Master Golden Cicada (Jinchan zi, 金蟬子) (a.k.a. Tripitaka, Tang Sanzang, 唐三藏) from Journey to the West (Xiyouji, 西遊記, 1592) - a Buddha disciple who is caught sleeping during the Tathagata's sermon.

Miao Jixiang (妙吉祥) from Journey to the South (Nanyouji, 南遊記, c. 1570s-1580s) - A Buddha disciple who kills a belligerent sage on the grounds of the Thunderclap Monastery.

 Great Peng, the Golden-Winged King of Illumination (Dapeng jinchi mingwang, 大鵬金翅明王) from The Complete Vernacular Biography of Yue Fei (Shuo Yue quanzhuan, 說岳全傳, 1684) - An avian dharma protector who kills a stellar-spirit for farting during the Tathagata's lecture.

The article analyzes them together and notes parallels, even with concepts from Greek philosophy.

The motif might serve as a good idea for writers wanting to create an OC with an interesting backstory. I have, for example, previously used it to suggest a fictional origin for Sun Wukong as a hot-tempered Bodhisattva (see the 06-16-23 update here).

Ranking The Brotherhood on how good with kids I think they are.

(Listen my homework is depressing me and I want a break so here we go)

No. 1: Demon Bull King: Listen it’s not just because he’s a Dad™️ ok! You cannot convince me otherwise that he didn’t spoil the ever loving heck outta Red Son as a baby. He loved that little boy and would not hesitate to slaughter anyone who dared even looked at his son the wrong way. Sure, nowadays he has a few missteps but the love and care is still present. He’s not perfect but he’s the best of them all. 9/10—He stumbles a bit but he means well.

No. 2: Six-Eared Macaque: He’s the Go-To Babysitter and the Designated Driver™️ of the Brotherhood. He will care for any child if he needs to. Sure he might just feed them junk food or frozen stuff but hey, that’s better than nothing. He’s the Fun Uncle and kids just flock to him. 8/10—He tells really great bedtime stories too.

No. 3: Yellow-Tusk the Wise: He’s the standard. He’ll make sure the kids are fed, clean, and content but his idea of a “fun, engaging activity” is reading the Dictionary and discovering new words or something. If you need a babysitter fast he’s your reluctant go-to. 6/10—The kids will be asleep when you get home on account of how boring he was!

No. 4: Azure Lion: He’s not that great with young kids but the older they get the easier it is for him. He can talk to them more easily. He will not know what to do with a baby. He will hold it at arms length and just be terrified out of his mind. But he will also try to speak all “hip” to the older kids and fail spectacularly. 5.5/10—He definitely pronounces Meme as Me-Me.

No. 5: Golden-Winged Peng: I know in the OG Journey to the West they have a nephew—but would you let them around your nephew? They laughs anytime the kid falls over and has insulted several children to their faces. And that’s the easy stuff. 3/10—They May or May Not have dropped a kid once and it May or May Not have been an accident.

No. 6: Sun Wukong: What is wrong with you?! You trust this absolute disaster of an immortal with your children?! Do you hate your children or something? He’s never known illness or the true concept of death so what’s he going to do. He won’t actively try and kill the kid but man he doesn’t have to he’s that bad. 1/10—The other Monkeys on FFM are alive today because of pure instinct and little to no input from this monkey and no one can convince me otherwise.

Korean- King of Bungma (Bungma= Dapeng)

LMK:

Powerful but a coward, we all know their story along with Azure and Tusk. All of them were former Celestials. The three ruled over Camel Ridge and became sworn brothers to Monkey King, Macaque, and Demon Bull King forming the brotherhood. After the "betrayal" of Monkey King they separated the brotherhood the trio stayed together and reunited with Wukong but only to battle and lose. Trapped in the scroll for hundreds of years. Were realized causing havoc to the cosmos. The rest is history For Now.

JTTW:

A demon born from the Primordial Phoenix, Given a high position in heaven which gave him his ego. He gave himself a humanoid form ate all the residence of the Lion Camel Kingdom ruled it for 500 years and then befriended the Azure Lion and Yellow-Toothed Elephant Demons.

Note: LMK and JTTW had Peng and Azure Switched In JTTW Peng was the leader and Azure the follower. Which of course is switched in the show.

His weapons are a ji and a Flask of Yin and Yang Essence which can suck in unsuspecting victims.

Flask of Yin and Yang Essence: After a while, the victim trapped inside the flask will be reduced to a bloody mash. (The flask was broken during the fight between him and Wukong)

In the book, it was the Buddha who subdued the Peng and returned him to Vulture Peak. He confessed to enjoying his demonic life and eating humans., but was left no choice but to abandon his evil ways and he was redeemed. He then became a protector of Buddhist law. He was later sent to destroy fake scripture without text by the Buddha. He is depicted perched above the Buddha's thrown as a guardian deity.

The Ming dynasty suggests Peng was a guardian of faith who watched over the world from an exalted position at the top of the Buddhas' throne.

Legend:

Dapeng Jinchi Mingwang/ Golden-Winged Great Peng His origins are derived from the Indian bird god Garuda.

Penig is one of the eight demi gods of Buddhism, he guards Mount Sumeru and Trāyastriṃśa. Pengi is depicted in the JTTW and General Yue Fei, mentioned in Chinese Buddhist literature.

The famous patriot General Yue Fei was believed to be the incarnation of Dapeng Jinchi Mingwang.

A demonic Peng born from The Primordial Phoenix the leader of flying beings. He also has a sister The Peacock Mahamayuri who once tried and failed to consume the Buddha. When he tried to kill her he was stopped and convinced to promote her to his godmother. Which makes the Golden Winged Peng the spiritual uncle of the Buddha. There is a tale of when Nü Tofu the bat spirit listened to the Buddha sermon on the Lotus Sutra at Leiyin temple. The bat spirit accidentally "broke wind" which stained the pure land. Peng snatched the spirit and killed her. For this Buddha exiled Peng to earth. He reincarnated as Yue Fei and the bat spirit reincarnated as Lady Wang. She married Qin Hui and Lady Wang killed Yue Fei in revenge.

For Backstory On These Two: Qui Hui and Lady Wang were the most hated couple in China for a thousand years. Qui Hui was a politician who gained his status by getting rid of political opponents, framing war heroes and was a sycophant to a foreign emperor. He and his wife both conspired to kill the Great War Hero of the Dynasty Yue Fei. He even becomes a puppet ruler. Qui Hui did not like Yue Fei because he was a great guy loved by all and became very popular even being more popular than the emperor. So Qui Hui had him returned and imprisoned. They torture Yue, but Yue Fei refuses to confess to something he did not do. They had him sentenced to death but in another story, Qui Hui's Wife Lady Wang poisoned Yue Fei. However, Yue Feis' story does not end at his death after a few decades Emperor Zhao Chen absolved Yue Fei and dedicated temples to him. Qui Hui and Lady Wang's betrayal and part in the war heroes' death were made public. In front of Yue Fei's temple, two iron statues of the couple were built for public shaming. People spit, abuse, and flop the statues and they get replaced when damaged they have been replaced 11 times since 1475.

Other Ledgends:

According to the martial arts master Laing Shouyu's book he was a great bird that was the guardian that could get rid of all evil in any area. Not even the MONKEY KING was a match. He was sent to China to defend China from invaders and was reborn as Yue Fei.

Yue Fei

The Shurangama Mantra: A mantra of Buddhist practice in China, Japan, and Korea, pertains to the Great golden-winged Peng bird, the Garuda it includes all species of birds. The Peng is the king among birds. He feasts on dragons, his being span measures an astounding 4,950 km, and when he flaps his wings the sea waters part to the deepest seabed.

Thoughts:

Peng's history and legends paint him as a far more powerful being than we have seen so far in the show if the writers do take anything from legends MK and the gang are in some serious trouble besides the ten kings. Also, it really is crazy that maybe even in the LMK universe Peng might have some serious power he was the last standing of the Sworn brothers in the final fight but that was mainly due to him running away. Peng does get redemption in the book with the LMK writers it's a 50/50 on the show. Also, love it when a character has a historical reincarnation to do some digging into.
