Alright, I’m in a worldbuilding rut, so it’s time to dump some old stuff from my Reddit account. My first proper post about the World and Light and Darkness, as well. Nice bonus.
Here are the flags of the nations of the World, and a little bit of info about each. It’s rather long and contains a lot of bright flags.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First are the Elemental nations. Elementals are thought of as feisty, known by the rest of the world as bloody warriors and passionate artists, treacherous backstabbers and mighty kings. In reality, they are a fundamentally divided people, but possibly the most diverse in terms of culture. They are native to Lyardia, the eastern continent from which the sun bursts forth every morning. Their appearance is as varied as their nations: their hair and eyes and Tears (skin patterns that signify magic connection) can be every color under the sun, from pure white to deep red to vibrant green or yellow. Though they do not live long lives, with the oldest recorded Elemental being 135 years old at death.
Tumblr media
Let’s start in the south. The Republic of the Divided, officially named the Solar Republic, is the southernmost nation of elementals. Both figuratively divided by constant war, and literally by the Serpent-Head River, the great Split-Solar Desert has a long history of never being United. But Prime Minister Drake Farclay is doing his best, essentially keeping the capital of Emelenora out of harm’s way single-handedly. In addition to its many mangrove forests and half of the Setting Sun Mountains, the Republic holds some of the most holy sites in all of Lyardia: the Spires in the Dust and the Foothills of the Fallen are known stalking grounds of Angels.
Tumblr media
Moving north and off the west coast, one will come across the United Island Nation. A small country lead by Chancellor Emilia Van Bellow, the Nation has nonetheless come to prominence thanks to their accepting many thousands of refugees from the Conquest, including many of the surviving Element-Born Dragons. In addition to the many ancient libraries and religious institutions of the Dragon’s Church located within the nation, the legendary Sunken City of Flickering Lights have provided the Islanders with such ancient and fanciful knowledge as the Nomad Tribes and the gift of prophecy.
Tumblr media
Back on the mainland, it’s impossible to ignore the largest and most powerful nation of Lyardia: the Kingdom of Raicuth, under King Dominic Unican. Cutting the continent in two, all of the Flutter Plains belong to this young and mighty nation. Though the land was once populated by tens of tiny city-states and independent fiefdoms, all were untied, or conquered, under the banner of the Unified Church of the Elements, and the doctrine of the death of all Dragons. An agricultural powerhouse, Raicuth produces most of Lyardia’s food, and has the largest standing army.
Tumblr media
Last but certainly not least is the northernmost nation, the Kingdom of Polaris. With the boy-king Shrike Cardinal, the Spearhead, most everyone who visits this land finds it strange. The whole thing is like a factory, with citizens molded into perfect gears from age six. Everything is primed for production and efficiency, from the court system to the navy to the very structures of families. From the Conquered Steppe to the Polar Islands, down the Boundary Mountains and north to the Polar Islands, everything in Polaris does its job.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
With the east covered, let us follow the sun west to the continent of Baru, the land of the elves. Long-lived and pointy-eared, the elves are seen as wanderers and scholars, fighters of ancient wars and curators of knowledge unknown even to them. Their history is long and mostly forgotten, filled with fanciful beasts and epic heroes, goddesses in volcanoes and at the bottom of the ocean. Thin and ropey like reeds, the average elf can walk ten leagues in a day and ride twenty on deer-back.
Tumblr media
First, let’s take a look at the largest and most organized of the elven nations, though ‘nation’ is certainly a strong word for the United Townships. Haphazardly spread across the southern Verdant Plains, its people are tree-hearted farmers and fighters. Technically ruled by Chancellor Norris Mackir, the successor-state to the Kingdom of Climbing Vines is very relaxed and far less militaristic than its predecessor.
Tumblr media
In the center of the continent, there is a far less organized and far more scholarly group that inhabits the Landrise Mountains: the Unlost People. Earth-eyed descendants of the ancient Empire of the Lost, its people are solitary scavengers, digging up history and rarely gathering for anything beside the old holidays.
Tumblr media
Off to the south is a strange group, more a solidified idea than anything else: the Raging Sea. Populated by rebels and non-conformers and lead by their founder-president Warrien Kallen, the Sea seeks to become a real nation, like those in the east and the south. They live isolated on Hideaway Island, refusing to communicate with any elf that does not bear the blue Tears of a tide sibling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other two continents are united under single nations, and each is an example of successful, but different, forms of government. There are the dwarves of Ravai, sun-sensitive and thought of as shut-ins who do nothing but garden and create, and the Shattered People of Kracon, the bestial-looking thropians, foxes, centaurs, merfolk, and long-bodied dragons.
Tumblr media
First, the Dwarven Federation. A small but mighty nation in the very north of Ravai, its seven-member Council oversee the beautiful and strange Garden of Life, the origin of every dwarf’s symbiotic plant. Traditionally allied with the elves in the south of Baru, this nation is a peaceful and productive one.
Tumblr media
And secondly, there’s the Sacred League of Xuanteng, also known as the Confederation of the Stars, is home to the longest-lived, and arguably the most powerful, beings in the world. The most modern nation, it was in the Sacred League’s many islands that some of the most influential inventions were first conceived: the printing-press, the steam engine, flash-powder, and countless sciences were birthed from the minds of foxes and long-bodied dragons. Its centaurs are among the best musicians in the World, its merpeople build the best ships, and its thropians are the fiercest warriors. At least, according to the League.
falls over onto a soft chair with a huff
bloody hell that felt good to write. More coming eventually, about cosmology, the creation myth, gods, terrorism, literature, and the seasons.

worshipping the chthonic gods
first, a note on cthonic vs ouranic: the line between these gods is one that is not really as stark as it can be portrayed. many gods have both ouranic and chthonic aspects, and neither make them any more "good" or "bad" than the other. chthonic gods are not evil gods, at least no more than any ouranic god. all deities have the capability of doing good and evil, but are largely ambivalent in nature. the advice listed below is not set in stone, simply provided as gentle guidance. if you have suggestions, feel free to add them in the comments/reblogs! :)
Tumblr media
LIBATIONS/OFFERINGS
In Ancient Greece it was very common for offerings to the chthonic gods to be given in the form of libation--a drink (or any liquid) poured into the ground. Solid offerings, like food, were often burned in their entirety to ash or left to rot, instead of being partially shared by the offeror. Incense was not as commonly used since the smoke travels upwards, towards the heavens.
I suggest disposing of/keeping ashes and rotted food outside or burying them, seeing as chthonic sometimes refers to "-of the earth." This would be similar to how curse tablets were treated in Ancient Greece, as Hermes, messenger of the gods, would deliver them unto their underworld-ly receiver from there.
If you can't do that, consider pouring your libations down the sink or flushing them down the toilet (ONLY do this with water-based liquids, oil and honey will clog up your sink in no time flat). It's not ideal, but it gets the job done.
Common libations include: coffee, blood (animal or your own, we'll get to that at the end), honey (instead of wine), milk
Common offerings include: meat, barley/grain, oil, cheese
PRAYER
In many cases, prayers to ouranic deities are directed upwards, into the sky or delivered unto the wind by voice, song, or some sort of poem. In the case of the chthonic gods, we should be directing them downwards, towards the underworld where they reside. This may include extending your hands with palms facing down, putting your head down, or just imagining your prayers being sent below. The only exceptions to this may be Persephone, who resides in the heavens for half of the year, and Hermes, who can be considered both ouranic and chthonic.
Other recommendations I can make are: light a candle, even if you're not going to use it for pyromancy; light some incense (I do this for focus and cleansing, not so much for the deity); and perform it at night. It's not mandatory, of course, to perform your prayers at night, it's just that in antiquity ouranic activities (festivals, prayer, etc.) were done during the day and often directly enshrouded in sunlight. We can assume, therefore, that a chthonic prayer or festival should occur during the night, especially if being directed towards Hekate or Nyx.
ALTARS/SHRINES
In Ancient Greece, temples to the ouranic gods were constructed so that their doorways would directly face the sun, thus illuminating the inside (and often the main statue(s), too). We can assume, then, that our chthonic altars/shrines should be located somewhere out of the direct sunlight. This can be in a dark spot, like a closet or isolated room--or it can just simply be in a corner furthest from the sun's rays.
Again, there may be some exceptions to this: Hermes, under his ouranic epithet(s), Persephone, for her time in the heavens, and Hekate, for her association with the moon.
DIVINATION
For the most part divination with the chthonic gods is conducted in much the same way as with the ouranic. Of course, when calling upon these deities you'll want to face towards the ground, and perhaps even conduct these sessions in partial darkness. Again, maybe you could light a candle or even pour a libation before a really big reading.
I mostly use pendulums and tarot, but I've been experimenting with meditation and have had some luck. What works for ouranic deities should work just as good for chthonic, you just might have to shift your approach a little.
Some good tarot spreads for working with chthonic deities:
"Fork in the Road" spread-- for Hermes or Hekate
"The Tower" spread-- for Hermes or Hades
"The Self Exploration" spread-- for any
"The Bat" spread-- for Hades or Persephone or Nyx
Tumblr media
EXTRAS
--Consider offering blood if you're able! Animal blood that is sourced from ethical farms is neither morally reprehensible or illegal and can be sourced from a variety of places. Offering your own blood is also a possibility, but for this I would not recommend more than a pinprick. There are limits to how much pain you should be incurring on yourself for your deities. If you have to check your blood sugar often, maybe you can soak up excess blood with some cotton and bury it outside. Make sure to always clean your wounds properly and do not engage in this behavior for the purpose of self-mutilation. That, I can assure you, your deities would not appreciate. Don't be stupid.
--Snakes are commonly associated with almost all chthonic deities, or just the Underworld in general. We see this the most with Hermes, who is pictured with two snakes wrapped around his caduceus. The god Asclepius is also pictured with a staff with a single snake on it. Asclepius is the god of medicine, and (before being deified) was killed by Zeus for making people practically immortal.
--Chthonic deities are the best places to turn to for spirit work, protective, and baneful magic. You're looking to contact a spirit? Turn to Hades. You're looking for protection against spirits/demons? Turn to Hekate or Hermes. You're looking to cast a curse? Turn to Persephone or Hekate.

do you ever stop to think how amazing the multimedia aspect of alan wake is, like do you ever just stare into the void and take a moment to appreciate how they actually filmed so many live action scenes that work perfectly with the whole narrative and how the game has so many songs specifically made for it, singing about the events in the game, and don't even get me started on gods of asgard and the live performance of herald of darkness at the game awards that was identical to that musical part of the game LIKE HELLO??? a literal masterpiece

Stranger ramblings because I am a broken man - this is literally just about the fact dbb and gpt sing each part of this lol
I wrote this half asleep so please excuse any over explaining or whatever, I'm copin w exam season and i needed enough context for it to make sense to whatever unfortunate member of my family i decided to throw it at
Drumbot Brian is cast away, killed by the people he wanted only to help. Called a witch for his abilities and mechanical prowess when he used his machines to revive a priest. His work clashed with the religion of where he had landed and was strictly a last resort to the townsfolk. After saving the priest from breaching the veil of death a mob was gathered, determined to put an end to this man who played God. They fired him into the cold of space using his own machinery.
Brian is benevolent, moral; he does only what he believes to be right. However, he is never allowed full control of his own situation. He was near completely stripped of his humanity by Dr Carmilla, his moral trajectory can be changed at the flip of a literal switch. He only wants to help, he only wants to love and be loved back. He knows that when people learn about that aspect of his mechanism and what he can and will do when the change is made there is a risk of them manipulating it - him - to their benefit.
This is why ‘Stranger’ is so utterly heartbreaking. Of course the story behind it is tragic:
A crane visits a man disguised as a woman and falls in love, they marry and live together happily. Over time though, the crane grows sick as it sells its feathers to support them both. One day everything changes, the man discovers the true nature of the crane. He says he cannot love her any further, that she has to leave, he cannot see through her deception. Heartbroken, it respects his wishes and leaves but as she goes it tells him “You are not worthy of loving a Crane.”
Now, in the song it is Brian and Tim singing the parts of Cranewife and husband; Brian playing the Cranewife. This is incredibly important to who he is as if you look at the folktale and compare it to Brian’s experience there are a great deal of similarities.
Brian wanted only to help the townsfolk with his gifts, the Cranewife only wanted to love and support the man he (it?) loved. Neither want to be alone, in fact: Brian makes a point to never sing or perform by himself, not singing at all during the retelling of his own tale. Both give up parts of themselves, to the severest degree, to help others and yet despite all of this they are rejected and cast off. Something changes. The truth about the Cranewife is discovered just as the extent of Brian’s abilities are and they are looked upon with nothing  but disdain and fear.
Similarly, in ‘The Ignominious Demise of Dr Pilchard’, Drumbot seems particularly upset that their kidnapper hadn’t believed what he told him and accused him of lying. This was likely also to be the case when in ‘The Hanged Man Rusts’ Arthur and Gawain didn’t listen to him. Drumbot is an honest man, he takes it rather strongly when people cannot place trust in him or his word for he knows he is not a liar. He knows when people think they have been lied to they feel threatened, when they feel threatened they often don’t hesitate to hurt him.
When the Cranewife is discovered, it is accused of “spinning falsehoods into gold,” but repeats the phrase, “I meant no deceit”. It didn’t mean to lie, he didn’t want to lie. He was living truly but concealing a secret out of fear for that rejection. Not a misplaced fear though as we learn from the line, “In your place a monster I do see”.
This story is an anecdote, of course, but it sounds almost personal to Brian. As though this is what he himself has lived before or after becoming a mechanism. Even if it is not his own, him singing it feels almost like he is healing from the trauma that haunts him. Afterall, this is one of the last things we hear from him before his death. His death being something I believe to be a sign that he could face himself, his past, and give himself the chance to return to the biting cold that should have taken him aeons before.
Not only is it important that Drumbot Brian sang the part of the Cranewife, but also that Gunpowder Tim sang the part of the husband. Tim’s mechanism is his eyes after they got burnt away by a blast strong enough to annihilate the moon. Before this, however, he had been blinded more metaphorically. After the death of his close friend Bertie during the war waged by the Moon Kaiser he fell into a deep bloodlusting rage where quick and mad he carved through the Kaiser’s men. He was eventually captured by the Kaiser which led to the loss of his eyes and the introduction to his new ‘immortal’ life as a mechanism.
From this point on, near every character Tim has played has had some sort of issue with foresight, actual vision or a combination of the two. In ‘Ulysses Dies at Dawn’ he plays Oedipus who is not only blind after gouging out his own eyes but also failed to recognise the identities of his mother and father along with the Olympian’s plans to drive him off world. In ‘High Noon Over Camelot’ he plays Gawain, a hot headed young man with a blind hatred for the Ghouls. In ‘The Bifrost Incident’ he plays Loki whose own mind is hidden from her. In the song ‘Alice’ he plays Major Hare who is likely rather short sighted as he fails to notice a doormouse sat in the teapot he is sharing with opposing Major Hatter.  In ‘Pieces’ he plays Osiris, changed and unreachable after being rebuilt by Isis. In ‘Twisted Threads’ he plays Arachne who cannot see the web Athena has caught her in. This trend persists in ‘Stranger’ where he plays the husband.
The man could not recognise the true nature of the Cranewife until it began to get weaker. When he found what he had thought he loved in a form he described as a “metal demon”, he was blinded by fear and betrayal. Unable to see the person he loved, he couldn’t listen to its begging for him to listen and understand.
Anyway they make me sick and I can't be normal about them :]

a song for one audience—☆
Summary: 5wirl idol AU headcanons! Reader’s role isn’t specified.
Characters: Venti, Xiao, Kazuha, Heizou, Aether
Tumblr media
The first time you heard Venti singing in the recording studio, you had a feeling you were doomed to have a weakness for him from the start. With a voice like that, constantly teasing and asking for your praise, it takes everything to not look him in the eyes and lose your willpower. He knows he’s cute and will use it to his advantage, asking you to accompany him on coffee runs or other menial tasks.
When Venti goes in front of the camera or onto stage however, all his playful energy shifts into something else. With the graceful lilt of his voice and sparkling gaze, Venti knows how to captivate an audience like nothing else.
Once, you were running late and were supposed to bring 5wirl their items for a fan meeting. During your panic, you’d texted Venti to tell him about the situation, only to arrive and see that he’d managed to improvise and surprise the audience with a short live QnA to stall for you.
It’s at times like these when you’re reminded of why 5wirl nominated him as their leader. As if it was no big deal, Venti only sends you a wink as you enter the vicinity, subtly telling you that everything was fine.
After that however, he did tell you he’d like some compensation of some sort. Before he’d been scouted as an idol, Venti was an independent music artist - and still likes to make songs on the side and asks you to listen to them. Thus… he had you write him a love song's lyrics. It's all fun and games until you realize that after your part, he'd written his own reply.
Tumblr media
At your first meeting, you bumped into Xiao when you were entering a practice room. This happened quite literally; you had a bunch of items in your arms and the both of you stepped forward at the same time, leading to a dramatic collison.
Was it embarrassing? Yes. But at least no one got hurt and you shared said embarrassment with Xiao, who helped you retrieve everything and apologized for the accident.
…You probably would’ve been more indignant about the whole thing if you weren’t struck by how pretty he was. For a moment, you almost debated asking for his number or if he worked here, when one of his group members came in and diffused the situation.
The next time you had a moment was at a cafe you often frequented for lunch. Xiao was dressed discreetly, but you’d recognise those eyes anywhere - suffice to say you managed to catch him on your way out, and found out that Xiao had a penchant for sweets.
The first time you saw him (and the rest of 5wirl) dressed in concert attire for rehearsal, just… Wow. Um, the costume designer really knew which aspects of the members to bring out. You tried your best not to stare, but that only resulted in not making eye contact with Xiao for the entire day until he’d finally cornered you to ask what was wrong
(Little did you know, he was worried you were mad at him or something similar. Performing while distracted really does show in Xiao, who often wields a sort of intensity that has fans unable to tear their eyes away.)
Tumblr media
You felt immensely deceived the first time you met Kazuha. He didn’t do so on purpose, you’re sure - but how could you live down treating him like a random staff member, and having him give you a tour of the entire building on your first day?!
You ended up asking for his number, thinking you could set up a lunch date with this ‘cute co-worker’ of yours.
A cute co-worker who was dressed in comfy clothing and had a calming voice - who’d asked you if you were adjusting well to the city, and told you about his hometown to break the ice.
God, you thought you had a chance with Kazuha until you showed up for your first day of work with the newly-formed 5wirl, only to see him in the lineup - perfect smile directed at you.
His eyes light up, pleasantly surprised you’d be working together. In that moment you could practically feel the floor between you break apart and shift miles away. An idol of all people was definitely out of your league!
Despite all this, Kazuha was never the type to discriminate between job titles or popularity. He continued to be a kind, caring friend towards you.
And the moments that make you question if he’s pushing for something more? Well… Kazuha has always been the poetic type, inviting you to watch the sakura blossoms, take a stroll at the park - making you instant noodles when you were both trapped in the office from a thunderstorm… Just don’t be surprised if he proposes something more official next time. (Have you ever gotten fan-mail before? He hopes he’ll have the chance to be your first.)
Tumblr media
Heizou is who you’d call the problem solver of the group. He also takes care of the others by observing them and nudging things in the right direction, if someone were to be in a bad or nervous mood.
This extends to you, once Heizou has accepted you into his unofficial list of important people in his life. Once, you asked him how he’s so good at predicting the outcomes of things or analyzing sticky situations, only for Heizou to see this as a chance to invite you out for a date.
…Well, he disguises it as more of a challenge: if you can figure out his methods based on his behavior during the date, he’ll also reveal the secret to how he guesses mysteries correctly every time you showed him a book or movie plot.
In reality, it was just a way for Heizou to show you around his favorite parts of the city and reveal a bit of what he’s like away from idol work. His hobbies, favorite foods, and little actions to make sure you’re having fun during the day - these don’t go unnoticed by you, and when you list them off Heizou can feel his ears blushing, only for you to conclude that he’s just a thoughtful person by nature, and there wasn’t anything you could do to replicate his level of empathy like some robot.
Well, he did quite enjoy being in the center of your attention - but when you put it like that with such a soft smile on your face, Heizou feels like his heart’s been seized by a thief.
Tumblr media
Often doted on by his fans, Aether is pretty much an angel on earth as far as you could tell. He’s nice, friendly, and always willing to lend you a hand (or a listening ear, if your job was stressing you out).
When he’s suddenly tasked by his also-an-idol sister to finally take you somewhere outside of work however, Aether is understandably at a loss of what to do. Lumine doesn’t budge, shoving him out of the house with a mission to shop for her if he needs an excuse. “Just say I’ve been feeling down and you wanted to get me stuff, or congratulate me on my next performance - then secretly buy stuff for them!”
At the back of his mind, Aether does have to wonder how long Lumine has been silently hoping he’d make a move. It’s not that he doesn’t want to, but you’re always so busy - he didn’t want to add to your stress!
That, and the last time dating was brought up in conversation, you’d smoothly said you weren’t interested in it (little did he know, he was literally the only person that believed that - everyone else giving you a side eye and glanced at Aether, who you obviously had a soft spot for.)
You agreed to help him with his tasks, giving Aether the opportunity to learn more about what gifts you liked and other details that would only come up in long, casual conversations. During that afternoon he learns that you look dazzling under the sunlight, and that he’s definitely in love with your laugh.

Remembering David Jones, and sending thoughts to his family and friends.
(Footage in this edit from the Blu-ray set, Getty Images, Australian TV, Extra, the 1990s documentary; audio 1 from Peter's 1999 interview with GOLD 104.5.)
“Genuine, reliable and huggable, Peter is a natural person — really gets off on talent — loves other musicians and can jam along with the best of ‘em. I saw him holding his own with Hendrix, Stills, Young. He encouraged me no end. Bought me my first guitar and my first drum kit. […] He used to walk with a swagger, shining his arms with a confident air. He calmed hysteria, and lifted depression. ‘Dried banana, anybody? Piece of orange?’ — smiling, waving, running his hands through his hair. He knew all the crew by their first names. Kids crying at his feet he lifted and hugged like a father calming a child. […] He’s the most musically talented of us all by a mile. His songs are real. ‘For Pete’s Sake’ — which replaced the Monkees Theme at the end of some of the shows of the second season — is one of my all-time favorite songs by anybody. I’ve joked a lot about Peter giving everything away. But it was true. He was always giving his spare room to someone who needed it for the night — anyone. And he always seemed far away somewhere — in a different space. But I’m glad I know him. Of all the things he gave me, he gave me lots of laughs — and food for thought.” - Davy Jones, They Made A Monkee Out Of Me (1988) “I enjoyed [Micky] the most, respected Mike the most, and loved Davy the most.” - Peter Tork, Hartford Courant, February 26, 1982 “Davy adored performing, and adored meeting and greeting his fans. He was tireless in making himself available to sing a song, do a dance, shake a hand; whatever was asked. I had heart-to-heart moments with him that were among the best in my life. I was blessed to know and work closely with him. He was one in about 6 billion, give or take. We won’t see his like again. He left much too soon. I share your sadness. Thank you again for this chance to contribute. God bless and keep you all.” - Peter Tork in a note for a Pennsylvania memorial event for Davy, also shared via Peter’s official Facebook page, 2012 Peter Tork: “He was a master of many aspects of this kind of thing [entertaining], and, you know, and we had some very wonderful personal connections, and I’m really sad to see all that gone.” Q: “He just seemed to be a fun guy. I know he loved horses.” PT: “Sure did.” Q: “And obviously loved Peter.” PT: “Sure did. Loved him.” - 94.5 FM (Phoenix), 2013 “[Micky] and Mike and I have a very cordial relationship and share a lot of common topics. We go to lunch together when we’re all in town and have a good time. I love and respect each of these guys in their own way, although the real joys that I shared with Davy were special. At one point we had some good hard connections but as the years rolled on, those things faded away. But I am sorry to see Davy go. He was the one member in the group that I had the strongest human connection with. I still have two guys that I love and respect left from the band, but we share a different dynamic.” - Peter Tork, Review Mag, May 27, 2016

days 1-7 of a slow but meaningful summer
this is really the only part of traumerei that i can play sort of fluently...sort of, because you can still hear some hesitation as i try to remember the right notes 😅
thursday | 08/08/24
Started Leviathan Wakes
Tested out of U1 in Japanese and started U2 (loving its similarities to French cuz more familiarity = faster learning curve hopefully?🤞🏻)
Practiced piano...some old scales to warm up + the Clementi sonatina (coming back to it after a 2-3 day break was a good idea! somehow my steadiness has improved! also coming to appreciate metronome practice. sight-reading for the day = a few new bars on the 2nd page) + playing around with Kinderszenen (at this point I just wanted to hear different sounds and it wasn't very productive practice)
Read more of the HSP book
Most likely will have to revise my goals bc I don't think I can make decent progress in all the songs I wanted to in 4 weeks...like, to bring 1 L7 song to performance level after years of not performing anything + without a teacher will probably take longer than it used to. Not sure exactly what that looks like yet other than that it's definitely not gonna be all of Kinderszenen... 😂

practice wasn't very good today...i kept making silly mistakes i didn't used to make. i'm tired. that's why. i also forgot to do my japanese lesson. i didn't feel like reading either. i don't remember what else i did that day.
saturday | 08/10/24
drained of all energy. didn't practice. didn't do japanese. just chilled with @zzzzzestforlife for the most part and started reading what you are looking for is in the library on her recommendation. i love how philosophical japanese fiction is fjsjdkdks ☺️☺️☺️ (and more generally, i'm surprised that for a culture so new to me, a lot of their ways are just...second nature to my personality...it was very relieving. but i also feel that if i were to live in such a place full time, i would be staying too much in my comfort zone...i also don't know that i would want to ever live in Japan since there are also some important aspects about my current home that i'd miss terribly. all this to say, i'd like to visit Japan again at some point in my lifetime.)
sunday | 08/11/24
went to bed feeling very drained, frustrated, and homesick. so as you can imagine, i didn't get very good sleep. my bare minimum goals for today are:
japanese lesson
read zesty's book recs (there's the library book, the secret adversary [which she rec'd back to me after i rec'd it to her a couple months ago lol], and leviathan wakes) ✅
monday | 08/12/24
finally read the last of the clementi sonatina! got it to a "meh" level to polish in the next few days. super excited! played a few other pieces after that but i think i should focus on level 7 pieces for now before jumping into something barely readable but still playable. i should've brought some level 8 sheet music with me too...but i guess i can read from my laptop (god save my eyes if i do that lol 😵)
might put Kinderszenen back on the (mental music) shelf for now.
i also read more of what you are looking for is in the library and i just love how much there is to ponder about what was said. insightful fiction is my favorite fiction 💗
tuesday | 08/13/24
finished What You Are Looking For Is In The Library! it's such a good book. it's a short story collection but each story is in the same universe and while each story is independent (convienient for readers like me who like to take their time with books but sometimes take so much time that they forget what the story was lol), they're connected in ways that...you know that feeling when you bump into an old acquaintance in a completely foreign place you don't expect to meet anyone you know? that feeling is what i felt as i read chapter after chapter. it makes the vast world feel less lonely.
in the evening i tried to memorize and get the clementi sonatina up to speed. i guess i must be succeeding because my dad said it'd make mice dance lol. also played a bit of traumerei...trying to read more of it but progress is slower since i need to pay closer attention to which notes to hold and when to let go of them.
wednesday | 08/14/24
started reading sweet bean paste today (another japanese book... they're quickly becoming my favorite type of book.) i like it so far. there's potential for a lot of warmth and emotion in talking about food, which is just 🥰
also started "Databases: Modeling and Theory" on edx... 🙈 i'm auditing so i only have 2 weeks (until Aug. 28) to access the material (because the minimum amount of time needed to complete the course is 2 weeks gahhh). so i need to be halfway by Aug. 19. in theory i can do this if i put in 2h of work each day. it's too hot to play piano during the day, so i can do databases then and play piano at night. yes, i can do this. (i need to get my brain used to a faster, "left-brained" pace anyway in prep for school in september. 🙁)
continuing to polish the clementi sonatina and started reading this kuhlau sonatina which is pretty fun difficult. it's really just the left hand that makes it suck. haven't figured out how to move so that the staccatos are sharp despite the finger pedaling. i can do it slow, but not fast while staying quiet, so i must be doing something wrong. sometimes you just gotta sit on it, i guess.

“ are you going to kiss me again, or do i have to do it myself? “ // bowen x vince
this night like any other night before this one for the past few months had been extraordinary at best. he could almost use the word magical, but he never really liked using other world aspects to describe real feelings because he had to believe this was real and it was happening to him. vince had given up most of his hope of success for his career so this was living in his wildest imagination. sometimes he would still wish for someone to pinch him or drop a bucket of cold water on his head so he could wake up and start facing reality again. this is reality, he would often remind himself. this is reality and it's time to live it all, to its fullest. which means not holding back your feelings anymore 'cause apparently luck is on his side and he is going to cherish it in order of it never letting him go.
he often pops up the question on his mind — while he is getting ready in the morning and then sits up for breakfast in the hotel or gets to the studio on time and waits for the other to arrive — he gets one look at him and thinks if luck is not a superstition but instead a person. could it be him who's been missing in his life this entire time? not just for making this band a real thing, for putting them on every radio, creating a chance for every possible award but for also making his heart alive. the blood in his veins pulsates insanely whenever he gets this feeling as if he is the most brilliant person in that room. he feels his heart race beating along the instrumental of each song, earning for it. this urge to live this dream with him, to make him see the starts that he sees whenever his vision goes blurry when he can finally touch him that night and kiss every surface of his skin that is just as hot as his own. no one has ever craved for someone as much as vince does bowen every night, every morning, and every moment they are together.
tonight after another glorious performance in a foreign city with the certainty that they were made for that state and for those crowds, at least they are almost in their hotel suites for a due rest. although that's pretty much the last damn thing on their minds. they couldn't keep their hands off each other ever since they got off stage, bowen put his finger in the hem of the jeans just slightly to push him towards him which sent vince in a spiral. they still had to take pictures for social media, talk to some famous locals who came to their show, and survive the twenty-minute ride from the venue to the hotel but they made it in one piece, and once they finally had no more eyes on them in the elevator they gave up all decorum and anguish — not that they ever have much. vince wanted to make a run for it, grab his hand, and push him towards his suite without thinking twice. however, he did. his hesitation in doing so didn't go unnoticed by bowen and thank god it didn't because he wasn't ready to spend the night alone. "you know much better than to beg for me to kiss you." vince had his eyes closed when he said that, yet he could still picture every detail from bowen's face and also the expression he would make when he opened his eyes again. this was part of their proximity, knowing so well each other's do's and don't's, it was almost engraved on his mind like a tattoo. bowen was unforgettable if only he knew — if only vince could show him.
he was drenched in so much affection with an air that again felt almost mystical. swearing he didn't touch any alcohol that night, not like on the first night he kissed him, but it always felt as though bowen's presence made him drunk and out of touch with reality. maybe that's why they made so much good music together, they wanted that excitement to be perceived by their listeners thinking perhaps they would be just as lucky as they were. with his confidence back and his core irregularly beating up his soul, he opened his eyes again to find that exact expression he had already projected on bowen's face — a smile, mischievous and devious just as he intended to be. the elevator opened at the same time as he grabbed vince's pulse out of there and instead of making that run for it, he walked them slowly out of it with a newfound trust in his senses. then he grabbed his waist back when he tried to bolt for the door of his suite and forced his attention on his lips without needing to close it with his yet. "whenever you want, yeah. you should do it. kiss me yourself, kiss me anywhere, everywhere, all the time. fuck it, just do it." and then he breathed him in, his glamorous scent and diamond eyes but without doing what vince wanted him most because that was his to take it whenever he wanted and right now seemed as if they wanted more than ever.

How Kimchay’s love story is presented in KP the Series
Yknow, I think what’s one of the most interesting things about the way Kimchay’s story is told in the series is that it’s actually much easier to see how Kim fell in love with Chay, rather than the other way around.
Like, why did Chay fall for Kim? He idolized Wik, but what made it so that he fell for the individual behind the persona, yknow? Sure, there was most definitely physical attraction there, on account of the fact that Kim Theerapanyakul has Jeff Satur’s “sculpted on a Saturday by the gods” face, but otherwise, it’s actually harder to pinpoint why Chay fell in love, and we have little evidence of it.
In one of the Polaroids that Kim has in his collection, Chay describes Kim as being “very kind.” In what ways, I wonder? Was Kim a caring and polite gentleman when they’d gone on those little dates together? Were there any quirks that Kim had that Chay found charming, perhaps? Maybe it was the genuine connection they had through music and that they could just nerd out together? Chay could be himself when he was with Kim, in a way that he could only ever be with Porsche, up until that point in his life.
Furthermore, what interactions we as the audience see when Kim and Chay are on screen, BOC made it a point to always focus on Kim’s micro facial expressions, not Chay’s. The point is, Kim’s behavior towards Chay outside of the tutoring sessions and whatnot, it’s a mystery as to what made the younger man fall in love with him.
But looking at their love story the other way around, it’s so to easy to see why Kim fell in love with Chay, and Idk, I just find that...so very endearing, yknow?
Each time they were on screen together pre!break-up scene, Kim was always shown to be fascinated by the different aspects of Chay’s personality: his observant and empathetic nature, as shown when the young boy was able to pinpoint the little details that Kim had painstakingly included in his music videos. His boldness when asking Kim to be his guitar tutor, his sheer raw talent in being able to write a song within a few minutes, his headstrong nature when he tracked him down to sing him a song, etc etc.
Hell, even the more negative aspects of Chay’s personality: his impulsiveness when he put himself in harm’s way at the club, his defiance at blocking Kim’s every attempt post!break-up to contact him.
I could go on and on, but personally, I just LOVE the fact that because we as the audience get to see how and why Kim fell in love with Chay, we in turn as the audience are also drawn in by his charms. I’ve seen a lot of Kinnporsche react videos on both Youtube and Tiktok, and a lot of the commentators almost always never fail to mention how admirably brave Chay is, even if his behavior also comes across as a bit cringy. It’s because of the fact that he’s so brave I think, that he comes off as cringy, because we as the audience can’t help but feel that we could never do something so daring.
For a man like Kim who grew up likely somewhat spoiled and having the assurance of the Theerapanyakul name behind him all his life, whose always had servants and bodyguards at his beck and call (we’ve seen his callous attitude towards Big in episode 3 and 4, he’s mean motherfucker), whose early life must’ve been a constant parade of social performance and rigid structure, Chay’s otherworldly personality must’ve been a breath of fresh air, something that very much intrigued him in a way no other person has before.
Personally, I’m of the opinion that Kim fell in love with Chay’s soul first and foremost, and mayhaps the physical attraction came afterwards (Barcode is a cutie pie, indeed).
But, as is the very nature of the Theerapanyakul men, it’s no wonder he could hurt Chay so badly. But in that same vein, it’s no wonder he yearns to get him back just as badly. It’s no wonder he can lose his temper so badly when Chay put himself in danger.
And it’s no wonder, he can kill so easily for Chay.

Saw Next to Normal at the Wyndham last night OH MY GOD
It was amazing! I genuinely think that is the best show I have ever seen. All of the acting and the music and the set and lights, every aspect that goes into theatre production was done perfectly.
I dragged my friend to watch it with me and she had no idea about any of the plot (only deciding in the line to go into the theatre that she might want to look it up), I warned her beforehand it was very sad and dealt with mental health but other than that she knew nothing. The look she gave me when you (spoilers!!!!) fine out Gabe is dead was so !!! She was still talking abiut how it shook her in the car ride home. She also turned to me at the interval was tears running down her face saying she was mad at me ("why didn't you warn me about the mountain song" "I said I liked it I thought you would have caught on"). We were also sitting quite close so couldn't see the floor of the stage, something we realise was probably a good thing after (again spoiler but also TW) the suicide attempt when Dan had to clean up the blood.
The acting was incredible!!! Ngl I could have done without the American accents (namely Jack's but maybe I'm just not used to it) but whatever. We got the Standby for Natalie (Lizzy Parker) and she was brilliant!! Natalie was always my favourite and she was played so beautifully! Henry (Jack Ofrecio) was also amazing, he kept all of his scenes (notably the ones with Natalie) so grounded and funny, the way all throughout he kept trying tk help her and not letting her push him away was so !!! Him and Natalie was my friends favourite part, she loved them so much (she also said they needed to get a room). The Doctor(s) (Trevor Dion Nicholas) was so good! I loved how he was able to play the different doctors so differently, he was funny when he needed to be, and again kept everything grounded when other characters were... not. You could also tell how much he believed in what he was doing and saying despite everyone else being cautious. Dan (Jamie Parker) is another one of my favourite characters and he was played so so sos so so sos os well!!! The anger and hope and regression of feelings, his love for Diana and feeling of betrayal it was so sbgsisbdnzudisjsbisish he makes me so emo if I think about it too much. For Diana (Caissie Levy) I actually do not have words to discribe how amazing she was, I cannot imagine anyone else playing Diana and being as good! I want to say so much about how perfect she was in the roll in every scene, and hiw her singing was emotional and funny and so so so real but I actually cannot wrap my head around it all 😭😭
I could talk for days about Jack Wolfe. I want to be an actor and he is one of, if not currently my biggest inspiration. I knew going into to this how good he would be but nothing could have prepared me for what I saw. Every second he was on stage, either front and center singing (a breathtaking song) about how he's alive, or sitting at the back lounging on the counter whilst other characters are fighting, you know what he was thinking and feeling and why and oh my GOD, when he walked on stage for the first time I say that it was him but it also wasn't, there was no part of Jack Wolfe in that performance all that you saw was this cocky snarcky teenager and watch him become more needy and scared and desperate as the play goes on. I am in awe of how amazing he was I might cry.

The soundtrack of 'Tu hi bata mere maula' evokes a unique emotional response somehow. I wonder if its impact stems from the fact that the song is narrated by a third person, providing a description of the circumstances surrounding the two main characters. It gives the impression of being orchestrated by destiny, and I love how they intertwined the entire narrative with the concept of a divine being/God, who is portrayed as the playwright of their grand love story. There are not many songs, I suppose, that adopt the viewpoint of an observer or storyteller. What are your thoughts on this?
Hello hello,
Please don't forget to write a hello! Cause person here, not ChatGPT :)
Oh absolutely - based in Lucknow and with Arnav just not really being written as a conventional hero, there are strong themes of sufism, destined love, a difficult love and really how if fate didn't intervene - this would've never happened.
IPKKND is a love story that shouldn't have happened.
Which is why the lyrics are so pointed to destiny, to God, to whoever wrote this tale because it's their will why this is happening.
It's never about two halves coming together. It's never about each getting their perfect love.
This is an intentional, difficult love story between absolute opposites with the fundamental will of the maker. And usually title tracks are about 'oh I love her, oh I love him, oh I have feelings, oh these feelings are tough'
But IPKKND reminds us, periodically, that it's a story. A fictional story where two worlds collide only because of someone else's will. So much so that even the observer - who is more than a human but less than a God - watches the story pan in wonder.
And it's also the specific scenes they utilize this song.
It's almost always done when 'destiny' is changing.
Tumblr media
We hear it first when Khushi hopes she and Payal get married to the same house. And we have a saying in our culture that daily, twice, Maa Saraswati sits on our tongues hence our words may come true.
And it does for Khushi and Payal.
Tumblr media
Then we hear it during Teej when an awareness seeps into Arnav and Khushi as Khushi, unintentionally, is performing a ritual that hints at their future. And the most gorgeous part is that it is left with discomfort in characters and never verbalized that what happened was symbolic.
Tumblr media
The discomfort in both the characters - who didn't move from their spot - is evidence that both know what it implies. Be it an atheist or a devotee.
Tumblr media
Then we hear it when Arnav has comforted Khushi, developing and strengthening their emotional bond (which they haven't developed until this point) and when Akash and Payal are going through their worst. Again, it's such a poignant scene in the show because this changes the course of all the four characters.
Tumblr media
And this is where we actually see, and perhaps root, for a love story between Arnav and Khushi. And such a crucial point to finally drop in the lyric "Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?" because finally it is showing something akin of being a love story, which it wasn't until now.
Tumblr media
Then Diwali - a moment of utter mismatch of intentions, decisions, actions and reactions.
Tumblr media
And then, of course, during the band aid engagement because of the sheer contrast between what fate has written, what's symbolically happening, what is appropriate and what are the characters emotions.
The most powerful aspect of this song is how true this song is to IPKKND's roots. This, will always be the theme song of the show. There's no finality of love here. Just utter confusion, and a plea to God/fate that if this is your will and this is where they're going then given who they are, complimentary yet different, guide them.
It is poetic.
Love,
Jalebi
