Record Store Victory Tour, 2018.
Having three shoulder operations to beat cancer has been the ultimate life victory thus far. It was the most amazing and largest outpouring of support ever. Friends, family, allies, co-workers in good-standing, and even names whom I haven’t seen or heard from in years came to congratulate me and wish me onto a speedy recovery. I don’t know if nine months is what you call “speedy”. Nine months of shoulder replacements, ten weeks of in-home nurse visits, a MRSA infection, six weeks of in-home intravenous antibiotics, and missing two label showcases were balanced out with staying up until 4AM every morning finding endless music (Negril, Robert Ashley, and Steve Khan to name a few), daily postings, heavy amounts of sleep, and Dad’s daily deliveries of free food full of steak, sushi, pizza, chicken, egg rolls, and pasta. With a nine-month blackout period of not leaving the house ever, you had to make the best of it. I knew that after this I would never ever answer to any random nobody about my shoulder. And looking back at it, I say to myself as to why I even let it go so far.
Working for a great company and playing your cards right, you could sit and collect benefits while staying at home doing almost next to nothing. I now had more money in the bank when I last left work. So I promised myself that after I fully recover, I’d treat myself like I never had before. I decided that I would go on a record-store victory tour. I would hit up each and every independent record place, go crazy, and buy up everything I can. After nine months of being bed-ridden and staying home, I needed to treat myself with retail therapy. I needed to get out there and be myself again. Of all I been through and endured, I deserved it.
I didn’t immediately do it, however. It took me a few months to earn back the $2,000 I lost in savings when the benefits ended. While that happened, I enjoyed hot August days walking from my house to the veteran’s park and back, witnessed my ex- Yenny get married, attended Hospital Productions’ 20th Anniversary showcase (a day I will never forget), had a night out in my neighborhood Dave & Busters with my co-workers, and started getting in touch with a Brooklyn witch. I made two label orders with Italians Do It Better and RRRecords which help things get started. As you see, it only got better.
February came and we got a surprise $1,000 from our company. Tax refunds and a third paycheck of the month sealed the deal and all systems go. My first stop was at Patchogue’s Record Stop, their new location since moving from their Shirley warehouse, and thumbed through whatever old-school hip-hop, 12” singles, and other small easy victories I could find. It wasn’t until places like West Sayville’s Vinyl Paradise was when spending three hours minimum searching in stores and $200.00 a visit on music was normal. I can also count West Babylon’s Looney Tunes, Mineola’s Mr. Cheapo’s, and Amityville’s High Fidelity who could’ve matched the totals I had from that store. It’s all about finding the most for less. Whether it’s Seventies’ jazz / fusion on vinyl, discount 12” singles, used CDs, dollar hardcore / punk 45’s, or other long-awaited finds, amassing history and style points is the most self-serving and exciting hunt I take part of. Other stores such as Northport’s Record Reserve, Massapequa’s Infinity Records, Riverhead’s Sunday Records, and Rosie’s Vintage (the smallest of them all) allowed for tidier spaces and friendlier prices for me to walk out with, with smaller receipts ranging from a mere $30.00 to $100.00.
Of course, with many victories come disappointments. Plainview just opened a new store called Vinyl Bay 777. It’s one of the cleanest and shiniest stores on the island, but also the most expensive. With a penchant for ambition and grading, their selections are anywhere from three to five times the price of what you’d find in others store. It was the only experience of the tour that I left feeling poor and let down. The other disappointment? Innersleeve Records all the way at the East End / Amangansett. Why? I’m disappointed that I wasn’t able to go.
And almost every store have their own legacy. Record Stop’s been around since 1974 starting in Ronkonkoma, then shuffling to a warehouse in Shirley before finally settling in Patchogue. The family-owned and highly-awarded Looney Tunes had survived a summer fire and took them 90 days to rebuild. This year they’ll celebrate their 50th anniversary. Mr Cheapo’s has two locations, the only store on the island to do so. High Fidelity moved to larger and cleaner digs which solved their storage issues. Record Reserve just moved again; their fourth time in ten years of operation. Infinity Records was the only store on the ropes during the pandemic relying on crowd-funding to make up for the rent. Rosie’s Vintage isn’t owned by Rosie. In fact, Rosie doesn’t exist. It’s a rockabilly wife named Thea who owns an antique store. And you can’t get any literal than Sunday Records, which is only open on Sundays. It’s the only store I know who classified their records not on genre but radio stations and chart positions.
The entire experience was great and I looked to do it again the year after. Unfortunately, I had lots of traffic tickets, fees, and violations to pay. With a vehicle in disrepair and an expired inspection, driving out in daylight without the police spotting me was not ideal. Then I looked to do it last year, and we all know what happened. The pandemic paralyzed and killed businesses left and right. With immediate closures and stop of life, everyone stayed home for their lives.
Next time, it’s going down.
Essential money was saved all throughout the pandemic. Two stimulus checks later, a third on the way, tax refunds, a third bi-weekly check in April, and a bank transfer means I’m ready to do it all over again. In fact, it’s already started! Rough Trade announced it’s relocating from its’ Williamsburg spot. With 25% off books, merchandise, and CDs, it was an incentive to get to it. With me waiting forever to go, now was the chance. I found the perfect March Wednesday to do it and I finally made it happen. What you’ll read later on became the most expensive purchase I ever made at a record store, and also the greatest.
Most locations (except Vinyl Bay 777, replaced by any given one New York City store) are on the list for the next record-store tour. I healed mostly from last summer’s depression and I had a trouble-free winter. With a day out at Williamsburg’s Rough Trade, the spring euphoria and hope came back like it did the first time around. With money in the bank, vaccines, and everything coming back into play, it’s time to have fun again like I want to.

White Wedding (Addison Montgomery x Female Reader)
Weddings are supposed to be full of love, happiness and gratitude. A wonderful celebration of two souls coming together as one. Today was one of those days. Callie and Arizona were finally and officially tying the knot.
It was supposed to be a happy celebration all round; all the happy couples loved up, attending the wedding together. Meredith and Derek, Christina and Teddy, Owen and Amelia, Richard and Catherine, among others showed their support for the sweetest couple who were currently reciting their vows.
You sat alone in the third row from the front, extremely proud of your friends. You were smiling from ear to ear as they each walked down the aisle. You knew their story like the back of your hand, and couldn’t contain the happiness you felt when Callie and Arizona finally came through for the other, especially after the accident. They had come so far.
You felt a pang of sadness, taking a look around the room at all the couples. You wished your girlfriend, Addison was here with you, but she had to fly back to LA after Sofia’s delivery. You barely spent enough time together as it is, both of you living in separate cities, leading separate lives. You did, however have a relatively strong and healthy relationship, taking the time to have long phone calls, FaceTime, and send as many text messages as you could. You tried to sneak weekends away  to LA, also.
But, things felt strained for the last few months, and you both felt the need to remedy that.
The last time you and Addison saw each other was during her stay, which was 4 days long. You hadn’t seen each other for five weeks, and you could tell the strain was getting to you. But, you both pushed those feelings down to focus on your friends. After all, you were both doctors.
When you did catch up, you and Addison had a slight argument the night before she was set to jet out of Seattle. You sort of made up, but you hadn’t really spoken since, just the odd text and call here and there.
You reminisced…
“Honey, I really want to stay longer, but I can’t. I’ve got patients to get back to and-“, Addison said sadly.
“We’ve barely seen each other for weeks on end, and when we do, you suddenly have to rush off again. I get that you have a new life now and I respect that. Of course I do, but where the fuck do we fit in?! When you took the job in LA, we promised we’d make each other a priority regardless of whatever happened. You only fly back to Seattle when Richard needs you. I’m busting my butt every other week, rearranging schedules, going out of my way to see you. Because guess what, Addison? I love you! Clearly you don’t love me enough, otherwise you’d be making some sacrifices” you snapped.
Addison was taken aback. You had never seen her look so sad and upset. You just missed her so much, and wanted to be with her. You instantly felt guilty for snapping because you didn’t mean to go that far and before she could say anything, you jumped in again.
“Shit. Baby, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that. I just miss you so much. You know that. I’m so so sorry”, you said, equally sad as you reached for her hand.
“We’ll, I’m not going to say that didn’t hurt, because it did. But I understand. I guess it was deserved. I’m sorry too, sweetheart. I’m gonna do better, I promise”, she said.
You held each other tight, “I love you”, you said in unison.
Addison was about to say something else when -
Her watch beeped, reminding of her flight and you drove her back to the airport where you shared one last kiss.
It wasn’t the way you wanted to make up, but it was a start.
Upon arriving back in LA, she texted immediately.
‘I’m back. I won’t say back home, because it isn’t home. Never has, never will be. My home is with you. FaceTime with me tomorrow? I love you baby xxxxx’, she texted
“Me too, my love. I most certainly will. I’m so sorry again. I love you too xxxx”, you replied.
Things improved between the two of you over the next four weeks, before she told you she couldn’t attend the wedding…
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I really wanted to be there, but I just can’t get away”, she said, evidentially disappointed.
“Oh…okay. It’s fine. I can try and film it for you. It’s not going to be the same without you. I love you”. You were sad, but you didn’t want to push her.
……………..
Drawing you from your thoughts, you noticed the last of the guests arriving before the brides made their voyage down the aisle.
“Excuse me, beautiful, is this seat taken?”, you heard a voice say.
You thought you were dreaming. It couldn’t be. You looked up, to see a familiar, beautiful face smiling sweetly at you.
“Addison?!”, you shrieked
You both started crying as she pulled you up into her arms, holding you tightly.
“Surprise”, she whispered huskily into your ear.
“What are you doing here?! I thought you couldn’t come”, you cried.
“I couldn’t bear being away from you anymore”, she said, smiling through tears.
You kissed her with everything you had, before she pulled back.
“I mean it. I’m miserable in LA. I can’t stand it there. So, I’m coming home - for good”, she said.
You didn’t exactly comprehend what she said at first, but then gasped in delight, wrapping her up in your arms. Looking around, your friends were watching you both, all clearly happy for you.
You and Addison still had a lot to talk about, but right now, you put it to the side when Callie and Arizona appeared….
Everyone cried during the vow exchange, and you and Addison shared sweet, knowing looks, never letting go of each other’s hands.
…………..
At the reception, everyone gathered around Arizona and Callie as they had their first dance as a married couple.
Addison wrapped her arms around you from behind and rested her chin on your shoulder as you watched the happy couple. You hugged her arms, and she reached around to peck you on the lips. You two couldn’t get enough of each other.
When it came time for other couples to join the dance floor, you and Addison wasted no time walking hand in hand to the floor. At this point, everyone was in their own worlds, all content and happy, buzzing from the day’s events, while you and Addison were completely wrapped up in your own little bubble.
“So….”, she said, arms wrapped around your waist, holding you close as you swayed to Shania Twain’s ‘You’ve Got a Way’.
“So…”, you repeated.
She jumped right into it.
“I’ve missed you, my love. I really have. You are everything to me. I’m so sorry for making you feel otherwise. I shouldn’t have been neglecting us”, she said softly, her eyes not leaving yours.
“Addie, hey… No, please. I’m sorry - I had no right to go off at you. I should’ve been more understanding. You uprooted your life and that’s a huge deal; because you’re a big deal, babe. I thought about what I said to you that night, and it was completely unfair, way out of line, in fact.. I was just projecting my feelings onto you. I was so scared that by you moving would have jeopardised our relationship without thinking about anything else. It was me, I was selfish”, you said, sheepishly.
“In other words, you thought I’d cheat on you. That’s it, isn’t it?”, she asked.
You felt tears in your eyes. Blinking them back, you smiled sadly and nodded.
“Come on now, you know I would never, ever, do that to you”, she said.
“I know. I…know. I just should've been more supportive of you. I know what this opportunity meant to you”, you said, your tone apologetic.
“It’s not all on you, okay. I realised I was working longer hours, and I turned my back on us because I was so overwhelmed with all of it, and avoided you, because I think deep down, I was scared too. I was afraid of hurting you, and was terrified the long distance wouldn't work at first. So, I can see how you must’ve felt that way”, Addison said, gently touching your face.
You looked into her eyes, to see the tears shimmering like white diamonds.
“Baby…”, you said.
“Being away from you, not being able to see you, or hold you, or kiss you, made me realise that you, that what we have, is worth more to me than any job. So I told Naomi I quit, called Richard, and he offered me a new job”, Addison smiled.
“Oh, Addie, that’s great!”, you said gleefully.
“Yes, yes it is. But, the best part is that I am now Grey Sloan’s Chief of Neo-Natal Surgery. I’m officially the boss now, baby. You know what that means. This is going to be so good for us!”, Addie said.
You were crying softly and gently touched her face. You knew what this meant; Addison being in charge of her own specialty, back on home soil meant everything to her. She was determined to fight for her relationship with you, so being the boss meant she could make her own rules and schedule. But, not only that, she deserved that title; worked hard for it her whole life; and you were determined to fight to the ends of the earth for her.
It hit you then that she was really back.
“You’re home?!”, you asked, almost in shock.
“Mm-hmm. I’m home, baby”, she beamed.
“No more messing around, no more arguments. This is it - you and me. No more turning back. I want to fight for us”, she continued.
“I want to fight for us too”, you said back.
You smiled brightly at each other, feeling more connected and more in love than ever.
She was just about to kiss you when you heard the clinking of champagne glasses, as Callie’s father, Mr Torres called for a toast.
“Thank you everyone for coming to celebrate my beautiful daughter, Calliope and her wonderful new wife, Arizona on their special day today. These two have gone through hell and back to be together. I have never felt prouder of my little girl, than I do today. I look around the room, and see it filled with such love. It’s a really beautiful thing. Real, true love is a once in a lifetime feeling, so if you’ve found it, hold onto it with both hands and never let it go, because it’s one crazy ride. Ladies, I congratulate you both on overcoming your obstacles and finding your way to each other. I love you both so much, my dear daughters. To Callie and Arizona!”, Mr Torres exclaimed, full of pride.
“To Callie and Arizona!”, everyone said.
The newlyweds kissed, before turning their attention to the wedding cake.
You and Addison watched the whole exchange, extremely proud of your friends, grateful to be a part of their special, historic day; however, deep down, you both pictured this day of your own, in your not so distant future.
Addison and you shared a look, and you both just knew. This was the path you wanted to take.
“Forever and always, Addie”, you said, winking at her.
“Forever and always, Y/N”, she repeated, clutching your hand, bringing it to her lips.

A Night In With Tamaki Amajiki
Tamaki Amajiki x Reader
- It has been a rough week for Tamaki and all he wants to do is spend an uninterrupted night alone with you.
WC: 1,100+
According to Tamaki Amajinki, the best kind of dates are the ones where he doesn't have to worry about other people getting in the way of his alone time with you. Now that he is a Pro Hero these happen less and less and it's driving him a just little bit crazy,
The last time the two of you had a date, you went to a small coffee shop, it was quiet. Until one of his fans noticed him yelling his name and drawing a crowd. You had to pull him out of the corner he was determined to become one with and take him home so he would destress. His anxiety makes it difficult to go on normal dates, which only makes him feel worse and worse.
You of course know this and try to make sure that the two of you can spend time together without some obnoxious fangirl calling attention to the Adorably shy Suneater who can’t help being amazing.
After a long week of patrols, Tamaki was able to get off work Friday evening. He stumbles through the front door and you can tell he’s tired. “Tama you're home!” You say excitedly going over to give him a hug. This little gesture means everything to Tamaki as his entire body beings to relax into your embrace.
“Tough day?” you ask as he groans hunching down to press his face into your neck.
You stay in this position for a few minutes allowing Tamaki to unwind from the stress of the week as you begin to think about what you can do to make him feel better.
He clears his throat “Butterfly, I don't want to leave home ever again,” he says into your neck. Rubbing his back a bit you let out a giggle, “you say that every week baby.”
The tips of his pointy ears turn pink, standing out against the dark strands of his hair. “I-I mean it t-this time butterfly. He stutters pulling away to change out of his hero costume, hanging up his cape and placing the rest of it into the wash.
You spring to action placing a few menus from his favorite take-out restaurants out on the coffee table for him to choose. You also get a ques of his favorite cooking shows so he can relax. He loves cooking shows because he uses them to get new ideas on how to fuel his quirk with new recipes.
Tamaki pads back into the room and sees your setup. “Butterfly? What is this?” he questions looking at the couch eagerly more than ready to curl up with you and the pile of blankets for the rest of the night.
“Our date night silly, I want you all to myself.” you laugh as you guide him to the couch. “Is that okay with you Tama?” your question sends him back over the edge as he once again becomes a cute blushing mess nodding excitedly before laying you down on his chest. The two of you sit comfortably until your stomachs begin to growl.
“I guess we should order food,” he says quietly looking over at the menus. After deciding you track the order on your phone and wait.
A bit later, a knocking on your front door signals the arrival of your food. Tamaki starts to get up but you stop him gently putting a hand to his chest. “I’ll go get it, baby,” you say gently getting up from the couch. You open the door to see the delivery guy.
He immediately looks you up and down sending you a smirk. “Hey there pretty thing, here ya go,” he says holding out the bag of food for you to take.
"Thank you," you say uncomfortably as you reach out to take the bag. Suddenly he pulls his hand back teasingly. “Ur pretty cute, why don't I come inside and help a cute thing like you eat all this food.” he coos trying to step inside.
“I’d rather you stay outside.” you tell him as he tries to walk past you into your home “Just hand me the food and leave, it's already been paid for and tipped.”
“Well I think I deserve a bigger tip, what do ya say cutie?” he says placing the bags on the floor and tries walking towards you again as you try and create distance between you and the creep.
Before you can open your mouth to protest you step back into something solid. Turning around you see Tamaki staring daggers at the man. “She told you to leave,” he says darkly putting you behind him.
His earlier shyness is gone as he falls into hero mode. The guy sees how unmatched he is and leaves ducking quickly out the door practically running to his car before driving away.
“Butterfly, are you alright? he says softly closing the door and checking you over.
You blink up at him “Yeah Tama, I'm fine. That guy was just a jerk.” you tell him shaking your head. He can tell your lying as you take the food and head back to the couch sitting rigidly on the edge of the seat.
"We should definitely report him," he says rubbing your back in soothing circles hoping to slow down the rapid beating of your heart. It works wonders and you bury your face into his chest feeling safe.
“You know you're my hero Tama, don't you?” you ask him as you pass out the food, digging into it.
It's amazing how Tamaki can be so brave one moment and so humble the other. He blushes slightly at your words almost choking on his food.
“I-I’m just glad the guy left B-Butterfly, h-he was annoying,” he stutters, finishing off his meal sneaking a few bites of your food along the way.
Once the food is out of the way he resumes his previous position on the couch as you curl up next to him forgetting about the guy.
A few hours later you drift off on the couch, upon seeing you out for the count Tamaki takes the takeout menu of the restaurant you called and rips it to pieces before shoving it in the garbage can so that the guy will never come to your home again. Sorry Butterfly, he whispers to you as he lifts you up off of the couch. “I just want to keep you all to myself too.” Turning off the tv he carries you into the bedroom carefully tucking you into the sheets. Looking down at you lovingly he bends over to hesitantly to place a soft kiss on your lips. “Goodnight Butterfly. He says before crawling in next to you excited to spend tomorrow with you as well.

hii emina!! #14 for valentine’s day 💌 (for the february ask meme) <33
Tami couldn't help but feel fucking jealous. Offended too, for that matter.
Lip forgot fucking Valentine's Day—Valentine's day—and now Tami was forced to sit in the kitchen with the gathered-around Gallagher & Co, watching how Ian and Mickey annoyingly proved the fact that she could do so much better than fucking Lip.
For fuck's sake, he didn't remember goddamn Valentine's day. It wouldn't have been a big deal had he not almost forgotten their anniversary, too. Tami got that shit was stressful these days—that Lip wasn't all that happy with his delivery-boy job and their 'temporary' stay at the Gallagher house with his abundance of siblings, but seriously. That didn't mean she had to sit around stoically on fucking celebrate-your-love day, knowing she had been forgotten, while simultaneously watching the it couple of their family making kissy faces at each other.
Maybe they weren't making kissy faces, exactly—Tami would pay to see Mickey do anything in that realm, really—but did they have to be so obnoxiously in love? All while Tami was mourning her own loss of a Valentine?
She wasn't a teenager anymore, goddamn it, but she deserved nice things, at least once or twice a year. Some fucking day where she could feel special and completely in love, despite living with ten other people and kind of, sort of being in debt.
Tami was in love with Lip. She was fairly certain he was in love with her too, but did he have to forego this one thing from his memory? Did he have to invite Mickey and Ian over for a family dinner to rub salt into the wound?
Tami was fucking fine with Ian and Mickey on most days—it wasn't even as if she saw them all too often now that they had moved out (she even sort of missed them)—and their displays of affection were more sweet to her than anything.
It was cute seeing Ian pull Mickey into a kiss randomly before he went off to work at the warehouse. Or Mickey wrapping his hands around Ian's waist while they cooked dinner together, prolonging the creation of the simplest of meals, like boxed mac-and-cheese, just so they could hang around each other domestically, a little bit longer.
Nobody minded it all too much when they did those small things, and they were pretty much used to the constant sex-talk, however inappropriate and explicit. Somehow even the never-ending bickering stopped bothering them so much.
But god-fucking-damn-it, why did they have to rub it in her face now?
Ugh, fine, we get it, you're celebrating Valentine's day like a normal couple, being all lovey-dovey and shit. We get it.
They probably spent the entire day being sickly sweet and in love, like fucking teenagers. So gross.
Why the actual fuck did Lip forget?
Tami shot daggers Ian and Mickey's way, watching as they, in the middle of the Gallagher cluster-fuck—they were having dinner like usual, a cacophony of noises filling the slightly-renovated space up, something Tami had already gotten used to—talked lowly amongst each other, slight smiles on their faces.
They were so happy about fucking nothing as they sipped on respective beers, matching rings glinting on their fingers, now blinding to Tami's eyes when they had only been pretty before.
When would Lip propose?
Nope, nope, nope. Back to the current married couple, Tami thought.
They pulled apart, their heads no longer huddled together in some secret, husband talk. Ian placed bread onto Mickey's plate, reaching across for the salt, murmuring something about, Mickey liking everything unbelievably salty like a crazy person.
Fuck off, Gallagher. At least I don't like spicy shit.
Well, I don't think you should be surprised I like spicy things. I married you, didn't I?
A beat as they stared at each other lovingly—yuck, ew, disgusting—and then came Mickey's reply.
Sap.
Her eyes narrowed impossibly as she watched them steal fucking glances when the other one wasn't looking. Fucking glances, like teenagers who just discovered their crush liked them back and were about to have their first fucking kiss.
Ugh, why did they have to be so goddamn in love all the time?
Tami even remembered meeting Mickey for the first time, thinking how there was no way in fucking hell he and Ian were together. No way they were anything more than, what, fuck-buddies?
She also remembered the look Mickey wore once Ian entered the room, in all his beautiful glory, his entire face just lighting up like a fucking street lamp when the sun goes down. Eyes crinkling at the corners, an upturn of his mouth, a goddamn gleam appearing in his features.
Tami couldn't believe that the guy who literally just got out of prison was staring openly at his—boyfriend?—with so much intensity and love. The moment Tami had slipped out of view, she saw them share a kiss, all smiley, and shit.
She couldn't believe it then, but she could believe it now.
Why were they so in love?
How could somebody be so in love?
Tami had fallen in love a couple of times. She'd had unrequited crushes and first boyfriends, and older men who appeased to her daddy issues—still, she'd never quite had what Ian and Mickey had. Not that she thought anybody did.
Pulling herself out of her thoughts, she interrupted whatever conversation the two men in question were landing. They were talking still, bodies practically pressed together as they got unnaturally close at the dining table.
Tami was curious. She wanted to know.
She wanted to know how. How in the holy hell did somebody fall in love so fucking hard that they never let each other go? That they went through every single fucking obstacle they stumbled upon, still walking out alive in the end?
With Lip and their relationship, it was just good until it wasn't and until Tami was a second away from picking up their child and walking away, no matter how good of a father to her child her boyfriend was, and how much she actually loved him.
With Debbie and Sandy, it was being attached by the hip, together in all ways, until all of a fucking sudden, Sandy was gone. Gone from their lives as she had never even been there, replaced by somebody completely insane.
There was Carl, who Tami had never even seen in a committed relationship.
She didn't even want to mention fucking Frank and Monica if the stories Lip had told her were any true.
So, Tami asked.
"Can you guys tell me something," Her tone was only slightly accusing, the bitterness seeping through as she found herself going through a third bottle of Old Style. Even Lip raised his eyes up from the food and over to look at Tami as she addressed everyone's favorite gay couple.
"How in the holy fuck do you manage it?"
Ian and Mickey shared a glance—a fucking glance like they were reading each other's minds—before Ian raised an eyebrow.
"Manage what?"
"Being this seemingly perfect couple."
Lip nudged her foot in question just as Mickey snorted, placing the beer away from his lips so he could properly laugh. Ian rolled his eyes at it.
"We're not fucking perfect," was Mickey's simple answer.
Tami shook her head. "No. No, listen. I get that you're not perfect but I just don't get how. How do you just have this relationship?"
Ian seemed confused. "And what do you think this relationship is?"
"Do you guys even hear yourselves ninety percent of the fucking time?"
Debbie snorted at that. All eyes went to her. "Course they don't. They probably wouldn't be doing them if they did."
"What are we doing?" Mickey asked, and Tami scoffed when she noticed him moving his chair slightly away so he wasn't practically sitting in Ian's lap.
"Why are you asking this shit?" Lip whispered from beside her, apprehension in his gaze. Tami hoped he was slightly offended.
She was really fucking offended.
So, she continued, downing her beer in almost one go.
"I'm talking about how you're joined at the hip."
Ian shook his head. "No, we're not."
Liam made an 'eh' motion with his hands, chiming in, "You live together, you work together. You probably spent the entire day together."
Tami nodded at the boy in agreement. "How do you not get, like, bored of each other?"
They briefly shared another look before Ian shrugged. "I like hanging around him. Mickey's fun company."
Tami groaned, not realizing how they managed to just be so casual about things that didn't make sense to her.
"See?" She said. "I'd probably die if I had to spend more than a couple of hours with the same person, let alone my entire fucking day."
"We get annoyed with each other," Ian defended. "We fight, like, all the time."
Mickey shot him a glare. "Not all the time. Just when you're being an annoying bitch."
"Of when you're being an annoying bitch, Mr. Know-it-all."
"Fuck you, I do know it all."
Ian took a sip of his beer. "Uh-uh. Mr. Milkovich, knows everything about everything."
"Well, I gotta know shit if I wanna put up with your ass the rest of my life."
Ian's face softened suddenly from the playful bickering, sending Mickey a soft smile.
"What are you smiling at, dork?"
Ian's happy expression didn't falter. "You said the rest of your life."
Mickey rolled his eyes. "Duh? Thought we were married?"
"Just," Ian shrugged. "Makes me happy to hear it."
Then they smiled at each other all soft, and Tami just barely suppressed a gag. She felt like she'd just been dumped and was forced to attend some love rally.
How to feel single 101.
"Do you, like, not see my point here?"
Mickey looked towards her, eyes narrowing slightly. "Why do you care so much, right now? It's not that big of a deal that Ian's a complete and utter sap," He shot a playful look in Ian's direction. "We're married and we've been together for a fucking while. We're allowed to act..."
Mickey hesitated.
"We're allowed to be in love without worrying whether or not we'll be judged for it or fucking get told to stop." He cast his eyes downward. "We've had enough of that shit already."
It wasn't silent for long, but Mickey's words rang loud in Tami's ears.
She didn't know a lot about Ian and Mickey during the first years of their relationship—she had only met them after fucking ten years of being together, after all—but she knew enough to be able to say with confidence that it couldn't have been easy. And knowing that, she could easily tell how she was being somewhat of a nagging bitch.
"Don't worry," Tami said softly. "I'm not judging you. Just," She sighed loudly before continuing, "admiring the way you're just completely enamored with each other. It makes you wonder, you know? What you could have."
The two seemed somewhat eased with that, smiles appearing on their faces as they looked at each other, like they knew that what Tami was giving them was a compliment, not judgment. But then, Tami's words set in.
All eyes went to Lip.
Tami's own widened.
"I did not mean it like that!" She defended immediately, shifting so she could look at Lip who was more than hurt by the look in his eye. Tami spoke to him as she said, "It's just that, today's fucking Valentine's day, and—"
"Today's Valentine's day?"
It was Ian who asked out of the blue, and she turned to look at him, wondering what he was talking about. He was looking at Mickey who seemed just as confused.
Of course it was Valentine's day. Tami had been bitter the entire day because it was fucking Valentine's day.
"It is?" Mickey said, eyes going warily towards Ian.
"So, we just, uh, forgot about it?"
Mickey nodded, a weird look on his face like he had forgotten their anniversary or some shit. "I guess so."
Tami was just about to open her mouth. Just about to ask if they really didn't spend the day being lovey-dovey with each other since it was Valentine's day, but rather because every day was obviously Valentine's day for them, when Lip spoke.
"Today's the thirteenth, Tami, for fuck's sake. Valentine's day is tomorrow." He smiled at her, seemingly catching onto why she had been so inquisitive in the first place. "Don't worry, I didn't forget."
Tami's mouth fell open and she only managed a simple 'oh'. Lip seemed content. Not at all caught by surprise at her statement. Maybe he really hadn't forgotten.
"Well, uh," She stammered out, heat crawling up her neck. "Good."
Lip smiled at her.
Ian's voice interrupted their staring contest.
"Wait, so you forgot Valentine's day?" He asked Mickey, an incredulous look on his face.
"Um, excuse me bitch, you forgot it, too!"
Ian scoffed. "So, you're telling me we'd wake up tomorrow and what, just continue on like always?"
"Well, you shoulda had something planned then, Ian!"
"Me? Why me?"
Mickey made a 'duh' face. "You fucking forgot it, too. Why would it be me?"
"Well, I'm sorry for having a million things going on right now."
"What million things, Ian? I'm literally with you every second of the day. What things?"
"Well," He started in a tone that didn't bode anything well. "you see, some of us—"
"Oh no, you fucking won't with that sentence."
Tami watched as the it couple fought over forgetting Valentine's day.
She laughed at the sight of them, bickering and shouting, not really angry but enjoying the fight.
They'd still be sappy as fuck the next day. They'd still be lovey-dovey, making kissy faces at each other.
This was what she meant.
They were best friends. Lovers. Partners. Always by each other's sides.
Tami looked over towards Lip.
Maybe she had one too.

"I don't think this is a good idea."
"Me neither."
"Please, just stay here."
You looked up to your brother and husband, frowning as you smoothed your hand over the soft black fabric of your gown.
"I am not missing the Oscars, Tom. I've still got two weeks until I'm due, it'll be fine."
You sat down on the bed and looked dejectedly at your shoes, then proceeded to throw puppy dog eyes your brother's way until Harrison had no choice but to kneel and help you put on your comfortable trainers. There's no way you're putting on your heels at 37 weeks of pregnancy.
"But what if Baby decides to come sooner? You could go into labour at any moment!"
You rolled your eyes and only raised your arms so they could help you out of bed.
"You guys are being over-dramatic. Nothing's gonna happen. We're just going to the Oscars, we'll have a good time, and hopefully, I'll leave with a little statue under my arm."
With that, you waddled out of your hotel room, ready to get into the limo.
---
"(Y/n)! It's so good to see you! You look radiant as always!"
You smiled at Kaitlyn, an interviewer you knew and trusted and rubbed your belly comfortingly.
"Thank you, I feel like a whale, but Baby'll be here soon so it's worth it."
She smiled and asked you a bunch of questions about your movie and how you were feeling about being nominated for Best Actress.
"But anyway, how far along are you now?"
"I'm a little over 37 weeks, they should be coming soon. Tom and Haz were actually really apprehensive about me coming here since I'm so close to my due date."
She smiled and looked over at the two men, obviously on edge.
"Well, I wish you all the best and I sincerely hope you win."
You hugged her goodbye and posed for a few more pictures before being led inside by your husband.
---
"And now, for the moment you've all been waiting for..."
Everyone watched with bated breath as Brie Larson, last year's winner, got ready to announce who would take home the trophy.
"This year's winner, and taking home the Oscar for best actress in a leading role..."
Tom took your hand and you squeezed it tight, ready to applaud one of the other amazing actresses on their win.
"(Y/n) Holland, for her brilliant performance in Two Sides of the Same Coin!"
You felt like your heart was gonna beat out of your chest, run to that stage, kiss Brie, then promptly burst to flames out of sheer, unadulterated enthusiasm. Tom was hugging you and whispering how much you deserved it while your brother gently guided you to the podium. None of them would ever allow you to go up there on your own. Always one in front of you in case you trip forward and one behind you to catch you if you fall back.
Overprotective much?
As soon as you reached Brie, you hugged her tight (or as tight as you could with a human baby house separating you), taking the award while the two boys hugged her too.
"Holy Louis Tomlinson in a crop top."
The audience laughed, most of them already familiar with your strange One Direction inspired expressions.
"Wow, I didn't actually think I was gonna win this, everyone had such amazing performances. I-It's an honour, really. Two Sides of the Same Coin was a project very near and dear to my heart, so I'd like to thank the amazing Drew Barrymore, who wrote and directed the movie."
The room erupted in cheers and the woman smiled at you from her place on the front row.
"Bisexual representation is something we don't get very often, and when we do, it's always misjudged. So thank you for showing the world what bisexuality really is, and for giving me a chance to live out my dreams of kissing lots of people. This idiot tied me down too soon."
You pointed behind you at Tom, hearing his appalled squeak along with Harrison's guffaw of a laugh.
In other news, the baby was starting to inconvenience you slightly. Baby had been going crazy since last night (not that you'd tell the boys) and the Braxton-Hicks were killing you, but it only got worse now.
"I'd also like to thank my amazing costars, Zendaya, Bella Thorne, and Owen Patrick Joyner, it was awesome to make out with you all..."
The crowd laughed while you felt something trickle down your legs.
Oh.
OH.
You'll never live this down, that's for sure.
"Uh, before I finish can one of you idiots call the car and get them to come to the exit please and thank you? Now as I was saying-"
"Wait, why?"
You turned to your brother and smiled innocently.
"Oh, my water just broke."
The crowd cheered.
Tom screamed.
Harrison fell to the floor, unconscious.
You sighed.
"New plan, can anyone try to wake my brother while my hus-"
You looked at Tom, frantically doing small back and forths between you and his best friend, unsure of what to do.
"-While someone else calls the car because both of them are apparently useless."
"We need to get you to the hospital!"
His terrified scream could be heard all through the room, even with no mic.
"What? No! I need to finish my acceptance speech, then go back to the hotel to shower and maybe take a little nap and then go to the hospital. My water just broke, Thomas, we have time, calm your tits."
You turned back fully to the mic, facing the hysteric faces of the crowd, very entertained by the exchange.
"Now as I was saying, I want to thank the amazing team that worked on this movie, you're all amazing and it was such a good experience. I'd also like to thank my family for always being there for me and supporting me and Haz in our acting careers. Thank you to my brother, even if he's unconscious right now, he'll just watch it on Youtube later, for literally forcing me to go to the audition. And lastly, I'd like to thank my wonderful husband, who hopefully hasn't passed out yet, for always supporting me and being my biggest rock through everything. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to deliver a baby, you know, just normal Saturday night stuff."
---
An Oscar in hand and another... down her legs?
(Y/n) Holland sure gave the Oscars something to be entertained by on this last Saturday. The wife of fellow actor Tom Holland looked radiant in her custom-made Valentino dress, looking ready for a night of fun.
(Y/n) was nominated for this year's Best Actress in a Leading Role award, alongside Meryl Streep, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, and Tessa Thompson, but the Oscar went to her from her brilliant performance in Two Sides of the Same Coin. But it was during her acceptance speech that things got... slippery.
At 37 weeks of pregnancy, the Holland baby was ready to come at any minute, but apparently, theatrics run in the family. The actress was in the middle of her speech when she felt her water break, pausing in her talking to request a car be called.
You'd think her husband, Tom, and brother Harrison Osterfield, overprotective as they are, would be fully prepared! Unfortunately for them, and fortunately for our entertainment, they were not. Harrison went unconscious after hearing the news, dropping to the floor and earning himself a minor concussion, much to his sister's amusement
[image1-harrison-ice-pack.png]
@ynholland: "Don't worry, when you go into labour, I'll be with you every step of the way." Said Harrison Osterfield, then proceeded to pass out, get a minor concussion, and miss the whole delivery.😂 Good job, little bro👍
And just when you thought she couldn't get any better, she finishes her acceptance speech with: "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to deliver a baby, you know, just normal Saturday night stuff." We have no choice but to stan this iconic queen!
But for the news you've all been waiting for, Oscar Robert Holland (yes, the middle name is a homage to Robert Downey Jr. himself, we're not crying, you are!) was born just twelve hours later. Tom let know through a beautiful Instagram picture that he is in fact "perfectly healthy and loved by everyone already".
@tomholland2013: I present to you, my best creation to this date: Oscar Robert Holland. Thank you all for your prayers and kind messages, our boy is perfectly healthy and loved by everyone already❤️
But of course, Uncle Haz wouldn't stay behind.
@hazosterfield: Since I know you've all been worried sick and desperate to know how the baby is... I'm doing just fine, it's just a minor concussion :) Oh and my godson's great too.
And just to prove that the Osterfields are indeed the royal family of comedy, we leave with this wonderful picture posted to the happy mum's very own Instagram.
@ynholland: Guess I was so good they gave two Oscars instead of one ;)

Can I request a fic of Connie Springer and a black female reader? The idea I had is that the reader was almost killed during a mission, so Connie makes passionate love to her. So nsfw lol

YEARNING FOR YOUR TOUCH

Connie’s whole body had been numb with shock for the last hour. He couldn’t even recall the last time he had moved his body an inch out of its original position since sitting down in the empty room nor could he even remember the last time his eyelids drooped down to blink. He couldn’t let them out of fear that the action would allow the tears accumulating in the back of his mind to fall the moment his eyelashes lifted from his cheeks and crying would only bring the whole reality of this situation clashing down on to him at once. Forcing him to accept the fact that you were indeed gone; that he couldn’t twirl your tight knit curls around his fingers to fall asleep like he always did when laying next to you in bed or see the sparkling glimmer of sunlight against your rich brown skin whenever you traded in your scout uniform for regular clothes, always eager to compliment you on how you looked like the gods had personally come down and kissed your skin. His whole body ached terribly for yours, for the warmth of your body heat and the sweet smell of oils and hair products that infiltrated his nostrils whenever he pulled you in for a hug.
The thought of him never being able to do that again, when he did so everyday, wasn’t clicking in his head and his darling dearest being gone off the face of this earth never will sit right with him.
His memories of hours ago were still one big blur in his head because honestly, a big part of him didn’t want to remember the dread he felt in those moments. All he remembers is debris and a thick coating of dust clouding his vision as he did his best to search for you, passing other scouts stuck under large chunks of debris being moved by other team members hoping you weren’t in the same predicament as them. That hope was diminished greatly when he finally met up with the main team after not being able to find you on his own. He expected to see you standing there right alongside Jean, leaned up against him cracking a couple of jokes to ease the pain that always came post-battle, but the sunken expression his comrade wore on his features made his heart drop to his stomach alone.
“We couldn’t find her, Connie. We looked everywhere for y/n, but she most likely was covered completely by some large pieces of debris...Sorry Connie.”
Maybe they had Levi be the one to tell him because of his always monotonous tone, neither dreadful or happy, thinking the delivery would hurt him less, but each word still sent a painful dagger through his heart that left his chest burning with an indescribable pain. He couldn’t understand why things like this kept happening to him and even if he got an answer from the gods above themselves, none of this still wouldn’t make any sense. Especially not them taking you away from him. His one and only, his reason for fighting as hard as he did, his motivation; his everything. He wouldn’t even be able to give you the proper burial that you deserved, how was he going to recover from this?
It wasn’t even the sound of the door creaking open that brought him out of his sorrow thoughts, but the artificial light that peeked through that finally brought him to his senses. He wasn’t in the mood to socialize with anyone right now nor did he have time for their pity checkups on him. There was no telling what direction his emotions might go in if they kept prodding at him, so he was quick to open up his mouth to give whoever was at the door a verbal warning:
“Get lost. I’m not in the fucking mood to be dealing with anyone and their bullshit right now.” He harshly spat out, not even caring who it was that he was speaking these words to. Surely they would understand and he would apologize eventually when he got a hold of his emotions.
“I never knew you had such a potty mouth on you, Connie.”
It couldn’t be. This wasn’t possible. He had to have been hallucinating the sound of your voice, his grief playing some sick trick on his mind. He couldn’t even turn around to confirm if it was you or not, frozen in place with a variety of feelings overriding his system. He had been through so much in the last couple of hours, this had to be some trauma defense mechanism his brain was creating to protect him from the reality of all of this, right?
But it was the soft touch of your hand on his shoulder, a warmth and familiarity he’d recognize from anywhere, that brings him out of his state of denial. There are no words exchanged between you two when he turns around, brown eyes wide with an emotion you couldn’t quite read as his arms pulled you in for a tight embrace. His lips leaving kisses all over the bed of curls that covered the top of your head that he was reminiscing about only moments ago before he’s placing his lips on yours. There’s nowhere else he’d rather be right now.
“I missed you, I missed you, I missed you.” Is the only phrase that leaves his lips continuously as he takes you in, your form, your scent, your whole being. It’s when he pulls away that he notices the streak of tears that wets your cheeks, thumb coming up to caress your cheek and wipe them away.
“Don’t cry, y/n. You’re going to make me cry.” He whispers in a barely audible voice with a chuckle, doing his best to still hold back his tears that he had been holding back since earlier.
“I love you.” You manage to muster up through ragged breaths like the two of you were back in scout training as teenagers with growing pains and it was the first time you were saying it to him.
“I love you way more than you’ll ever know.” He replies in an instant, letting the lips that hovered over yours finally make contact for a kiss that was a lot more passionate than the first. He wastes no time in letting his tongue lace together with yours letting you know exactly what direction this was going to go the moment you felt his chilled hands on your back working to remove the intricate design of the scout’s uniform off of your body. He’d ask questions on how you escaped an untimely death later, right now all he wanted was you and the warmth of your skin against his. He craved everything about you and he was about to fulfill that craving.
In no time he had the black fabric falling down and exposing your bare shoulders and before he moved you to the janky bed placed in the middle of the room you kicked the door you had entered through closed with the heel of your foot.
“You have no idea how scared I was that I was going to lose you, y/n.” Connie spoke up as he pushed you down onto the flimsy mattress of the bed, hands hurrying to remove the fabric that was keeping him from seeing your body in all of its glory. And once he finally did get it off, discarding the uniform to some random corner of the room, he couldn’t help but do a double take, eyes lingering on each part of your body like your undergarments still weren’t on and like this was the first time he was ever seeing your body at all. Like the two of you hadn’t fooled around in the showers in the living quarters only two days ago, but considering all the two of you had been through, two days ago felt like 2 years ago.
“I’ll never leave your side again, Connie. You’ll never have to worry about me again I can pro-”
“I think I’d miss your soft breasts the most.” The feeling of the buzzcut comrade’s warm mouth engulfing your brown areolas and gently flicking his tongue over the hardening bud that was your nipple cut your sentence off prematurely, not even noticing that he had pulled your undershirt down to the point where both of your breasts were exposed and spilling over the top. With a plop he pulled away and gave the next nipple the same treatment, tongue swirling over it in a way that turned the butterflies in your stomach into moths. It didn’t take long at all for him to pull away from them completely and begin to trail kisses down your stomach.
“I always did like rubbing your stomach and tracing over your stretch marks too. I go crazy everytime I see them peek through whenever you reach up to grab something high.” Compliment after compliment was mumbled into your soft brown skin. His hands moved to your thighs to spread them open, softly kneading at the thick flesh while profanities slipped from underneath his breath in amazement. There wasn’t a body on this earth that compared to yours in his eyes. Even as he was dying to place his head in between your thighs and bury his face in your pussy while he devoured it like it was his last meal, he decided to take his sweet time to make this experience more sensual and passionate with a side of pain for the both of you as he drug this out.
“Connie, please.” You whimpered out in an attempt to get him moving. “I need you so bad right now.”
Little kisses were littered from you ankles up to the inside of your thighs until finally he spread them apart with his hands. Just the sight alone of your pussy dripping with arousal all because of him could get him off alone.
“God, you’re soaking wet just for me baby, hm? Of course you are, you in all of your entirety belong to me.” Nimble fingers dig into your folds to collect your slick, travelling it back up to your clit and working it in with his index and middle fingers with clockwork motions. Enjoying the way you squirm underneath him. He gave you no warning at all before he was removing those two fingers from your clit only to plunge them inside your hole while his mouth immediately went to your protruding clit, sucking and licking at the sensitive bud fast enough to accumulate some spit that made the process to your orgasm all the more messier just how he liked. His face flushed against your aching clit that was practically welcoming him back home, your hips bucking up and grinding up into his face for added pleasure that left you a whimpering splayed out mess against the sheets of the bed. His fingers moved in a fast curled motion that had your eyes rolling to the back of your head and with the mixed pleasure of his tongue and spit abusing your poor clit, it wasn’t long at all before you were gushing all over his fingers and mouth.
“Oh fuck, Connie!” You yelled out at the height of your orgasm, him only humming in response against you as he picked up his movements to help you ride out the much needed orgasm.
“I don't know what I would do without the taste of your sweet pussy in my mouth, I never tasted anything better.” He continued on with his compliments as he pulled away from your cunt, face glistening with your orgasm and your juices dripping down his chin, but he didn’t mind at all and the image was surely going to be added to your spank bank for future references.
“What else do you want, baby girl?” Connie asks as he positions himself so he’s now hoovering over you, fingers gently stroking your oversensitive clit as he awaits your answer.
“You. I want all of you.” You reply even though there was no need for a verbal reply because the moment the question left his lips you were already helping him out of his uniform as quickly as possibly. As soon as it was off of him he repositioned himself between your legs, thick erect cock in his hand as he guided it to your already slick hole, teasingly rubbing his tip up and down your slit before entering you with ease due to your previous preparement. No matter how many times the two of you fooled around with one another, you were always shocked with just how full he always made you feel, like his cock was made specifically to fit inside of you and he’d agree completely if you ever told him this out loud.
Your arms wrap around his bare back to pull him down closer to you as he delivers gentle sensual thrusts into your cunt that has you feeling every inch and curve of him. Soft murmurs of ‘I love you’s leaving both of your lips in between broken moans. You’ve never felt so at home then how you’ve felt in this moment; your lover’s arms wrapped around your torso and vice versa as he made the sweetest love to you that had your toes curling against the thin sheets of the bed. No one worked your body as good as he did and this session proved just that, pants leaving your lips and your eyes rolling to the back of your head with each thrust. He was your heaven on earth.
“I’ll always protect you from now on.” He spoke up between pants as he sped up the movements of his hips, feeling the two of you rapidly begin to reach your orgasms yet again. It was the clenching of your walls around him and throbbing of his tip each time it grazed over your sweet spot that gave it away. He knew your orgasm was approaching fast, and he wanted to give you what you needed. Connie used one of his hands to slide between your bodies to rub fast circles on your clit. His gesture sent multiple jolts of pleasure through your core, helping you archive your second orgasm. Your grip on him tightened as you reached your peak, your pussy clamping down on him and you whispered his name through moans of pleasure.
“Come on, baby. Cum for me please, cum inside of me Connie.”
It was those words leaving your lips that egged him on and sped up the pace of his thrusting until his own orgasm snuck up on him and had his whole body shuddering against yours, thick long warm webs of cum shooting up inside of you. Immediately after achieving his high he broke down on your chest, all the tears and emotions he had been holding back all day finally coming into play.
“Please, please, please never leave me again y/n,” He sobbed out against your chest to the point where it began to dampen from tears. The arms he had around your torso tightening dearly around you as he held you close for comfort.
“I won’t ever leave you again. I promise.” You assured him as you ran your fingers through the short cut of his hair, holding him in your arms as you allowed him to get all those emotions out.

Singing In The Dead Of Night Ch 2
Harley and Barman set up a playdate for their wards.
forgive the long post, i'll edit and clean it up when im home. chapter can also be found on my ao3, url in the description.
Harley made it back home, which was actually the manor of some billionaire who only really used the house for tax purposes. Harley had taken it over when Lucy came to live with her, deciding she needed more room, and they quickly changed it to suit their needs.
“Luuuucyyyy, I’m hooooome,” Harley called out to the manor, heading through the living room/gymnasium.
Lucy was balancing on the beam by her hands. “Never heard that one before.” She went into the splits and stayed on one hand.
Harley looked over her form. “Point your toes more...there ya go.” Lucy did as recommended. “I got candy for dinner!” She dumped her stolen lollipops on the table.
“I already ate, Aunt Harley,” she said, “I made extra pasta if you want.” She pointed over to the kitchen, before switching hands and flipping herself over.
“Oh,” Harley said, going over to make a plate, but feeling like ants were crawling in her skin. “You know, you don’t have to call me your aunt when it’s just the two of us,” She said, swirling her fork through the noodles.
Lucy shrugged, “Force of habit. Plus it’s a good idea in general, ya know, in case someone’s secretly listening in or we mess up some other time.”
Harley shrugged her shoulders. “Makes sense,” and it did, but it still kind of hurt. “You can have the lollipops for dessert though. You like cherry?” She tossed her the red candy.
Lucy looked down at the wrapper a second. “Can’t, I’m allergic to the red dye.”
“Oh,” Harley said, silently cursing herself. That was something that mothers should know about their kids, allergies and crap. “Well. Lemon then?”
“Sure!” They traded the lollipops, and Harley sucked on hers between bites of the pasta. Sweet and savory combined, delicious.
Lucy swung her legs as she sat on the beam. “Does...my father have any allergies?”
Harley blinked at her. Did Joker have any allergies? It was hard to say. Even now, Harley didn’t know a lot about the Joker. That’s how he liked it. “Best not to talk about it,” she said instead, “In case of those listening things or whatever.”
Lucy hummed, but didn’t seem satisfied. “Hey,” Harley said, trying to distract her from the ‘dad’ talk, “You wanna go out with me tomorrow?”
Lucy brightened, jumping a bit, “Where are you gonna go?”
“I dunno,” she said, “Go lookin’ for trouble. Let the trouble find me. Punch out a couple people but only if they REALLY deserve it!” And maybe if they only kinda deserved it, Harley thought.
Lucy hummed again, thinking. “I dunno. I think violence often begets further violence, and while it is occasionally necessary, efforts should focus more on the community building and personal improvement area.”
Harley blinked at her. Right, she was a reader, Delia had mentioned that. Not unlike Harley at her age, really, although Harley had focused on psychoanalysis instead of philosophy. “Ah, of course,” she said, “Well, what do you wanna do?”
Lucy thought for a second. “Well, there was this girl I wanted to go inspire to fight her eating disorder.”
“Oh,” Harley said nodding. It was a noble cause, really, but...also seemed really, really boring. “I...sure!” she smiled.
The truth was, when Lucy came out to live with Harley full time, she had really thought they would be a lady dynamic duo, a proper partnership mother/daughter team. But Lucy wasn’t much like Harley. Or, she was but, she was different, a goody two-shoes. Or, a goody tutu. Ha.
More than that, she followed a strange sense of logic that was oddly reminiscent of...Harley didn’t even finish the thought.
“You don’t want to go, do you?” Lucy asked.
“Hmm? Of course I do!” Harley said, “I’d do anything with you sweetheart,” she gave Lucy a wink, then went to the kitchen to hide her facial expression.
She didn’t see that Lucy had followed her until she was directly behind her. “Oh, Jesus!” She said, clutching her heart, “Gotta look out there, sweetie. Almost brained ya!”
“Is Dad like me at all?” she asked, head tilted to the side.
Harley blinked at her. She felt like her bones were shaking inside her skin. “Why would you ask a thing like that?”
Lucy spun a little in place making her tutu swish. “I’ve been reading about him. People think he’s crazy. I mean, he says it. But that’s not what your records say.”
Harley frowned, backing away as though physical distance would get her out of the conversation. “What’re you goin through my records for? What, are you a snoop?”
“They got published after one of your arrests,” Lucy said, “Other people were more interested in the little notes you left in the margins, but--”
“Alright, stop.” Harley said, hand clutching her lollipop stick so tight it might break. “Look, Mr...your father is mean and cruel and manipulative, and nothing like you! He wants to drive other people crazy, and for some people, self included, he succeded. But I grew out of it as best I could and now...you don’t need to worry about him, ok? He ain’t ever gonna know about ya, and he ain’t ever gonna find ya. Got it?”
Lucy hesitated a second and there was something strange in her eyes. Something familiar. “Got it,” she finally said.
Harley lightened, smiling at her. “Why don’t we play a game or somethin? You like Monopoly? I make up my own rules!”
Lucy smiled, “That sounds nice,” she said, all bright again. As they set up the game, Lucy said, “You don’t have to come with me tomorrow, by the way. I can take care of myself.”
“You sure?” Harley asked. Lucy nodded. For the rest of the evening, Harley felt like something was…off.
She slipped the burner phone out of her pocket. She typed, ‘Wanna set up a playdate?’
“She called it a WHAT?!” Damian said, nose wrinkled in disgust.
“Aww,” Tim said, over by the batcave computer, “Little Damian’s got a plaaayydaaate.”
“I will end you, Drake.” Damian snarled, fingers twitching for his sword.
“Enough,” Bruce interrupted the both of them. “Damian, if it helps you can think of it as a mission.”
“I thought I was forbidden from Robin duties for the next two months.” Damian said, arms crossed.
Bruce groaned. “Harley has taken in a ward, her niece Lucy. She has some petty crime charges, but from my recon, she’s not a villain. Harley wants her to spend time with someone her age, and I need someone who will watch over her.”
“Watch out for her, or watch out because of her?” Damian asked, scowling.
“Oooh, good question,” Tim said, still at the computer. “Hey, how come you didn’t set me up with vigilante kids?”
“Because you found them on your own,” Bruce shot back, “Look. Damian, you just have to spend the day with her. Follow her around, help her out as long as it’s not hurting anyone. Don’t let her get killed. Invite Jon if you want.”
“Uggh, Jon’s off world with his Dad,” Damian said.
“Oh right,” Bruce said, massaging his temple. “Why do interdimensional crises have to happen at the worst times?”
“Why is it we need a plural for interdimensional crisis?” Tim asked.
Bruce gave him a side glance to let him know he was coming up on the line that breached from ‘annoying’ to ‘problem Bruce will deal with.’ “Damian…”
“Fine, I’ll do it,” he said, “But I won’t be her friend by you forcing us.”
“Fine.”
They met up with Harley at a neutral location downtown on top of a party goods store. “Hiya Batsy, Hey Bird Boy!”
Despite himself, Damian liked Harley. She was usually of a like mind about which villains did or didn’t deserve to live, but he didn’t tell Batman that. “Harley,” Batman said, “Where’s your niece?”
“Just doin some high-wire practice.” Harley said, “Lucy-goosey!”
From the side of the building, a girl faulted up from where she was hanging on the flagpole. A girl wearing a tutu and white paint. “Nice to meet you, Batman,” Lucy said, “Aunt Harley’s told me….a lot of mixed things.”
“YOU!” Damian said, before he could stop himself, and all three of the others turned to him.
Lucy trotted forward on her tiptoes. “Have we met?” She asked, tilting her head, and looking him up and down.
Damian swallowed. “Uhh….”
“Blackbird!” Lucy said, and swooped him up into a hug, “Oh, I knew you were a Robin, why’d you lie to me?”
“Blackbird, huh?” Batman said, and he couldn’t see, but he knew there was a very pointed eyebrow being raised at him.
Damian, still being swung like a ragdoll by Lucy, tried to gain his balance. “I didn’t...I mean I wasn’t…”
“We’ll talk about this later,” Batman said, “You kids go on, I have something to talk about with Harley.”
“Kids?!” Damian said, offended, especially that he was going to be left out of whatever this conversation was. But in doing so, he left himself vulnerable as Lucy pulled on his cowl to the edge of the building.
“Come on, birdy, whatever color you are. The city awaits!” And she jumped from the roof, grappling on outcroppings to reach the street safely. Damian grumbled, but eventually followed.
Harley looked to Batman, and her face fell. “He’s out there, isn’t he?”
Batman gave one slow nod.
Lucy skipped everywhere. It was very irritating, because it was faster than walking, but slower than running, so hard to keep pace. Also,it was just very perky, which made it hard to sulk.
Lucy claimed she had deliveries to make around town. Something about girls who were bullies in high school and were treating others poorly, but it was only because of the societal pressures that were put on young girls of America and...and thats about where Damian lost interest.
She carried a cartfull of boxes like a damn girlscout, and left them on the girls doors. Damian could have followed in his sleep...except there was something about one of the boxes….
“What’s in that one?” Damian asked as she brought it to the next home.
“Huh?” Lucy said, “Same thing as in all of them, some cookies, a letter, balloons of course and--”
“It’s beeping,” Damian said.
“What?”
Damian didn’t wait any longer, he grabbed the box out of her arms and tossed it as high into the sky as he could, tackling her to the ground. The box then exploded.
Lucy gasped in excitement, clapping her hands together. “Birdy, look at it! It’s fireworks!”
Damian growled, jumping off of her and taking out his sword. “I knew it, I knew you were up to no good.”
Lucy tilted her head. “Whatcha talkin about, Birdy?”
“You--” He pointed to where the box was still smoldering. “You were going to put a BOMB on that girl’s doorstep!”
“I didn’t put that there,” Lucy said, getting up with no care of the sword pointed at her.
“You-” Damian stammered. “What?”
Lucy bent down and picked up a scrap of paper from the ruins. “Change of plans for the evening, Birdy!” Lucy said, “We’re going puzzling!”
She tossed the paper at him and he grabbed it quickly. It read ‘I’ve the tallest of trunks and thickest of stumps, a switch in the breeze, but I’m no tree. What am I?’”
They came quickly to the elephant pasture at the zoo. Damian couldn’t help it, he held out his hand for the elephant. She reached out her trunk and wrapped it around him. He couldn’t help but laugh.
Her baby came forward this time, trotting on new steps. He was already the size of a small horse, but he stole Damian’s heart all the same. He tried to bowl Damian over like a large puppy, and Damian couldn’t help but laugh. “Didn’t know you could laugh, Birdy,” Lucy said, kneeling over a shady patch in the enclosure.
Damian’s scowl returned. “Stop calling me ‘Birdy,’” he said, “You can just say ‘Robin,’ if you want.”
“But aren’t there other Robins?” Lucy said, fiddling with something, “I’d love to call you something unique to you.”
“There’s already a Blackbird, you know.” Damian said, continuing to pet the baby elephant.
“There is?” Lucy asked, “Picking a superhero name is HARD. I’m still trying to get Commedia to stick. You know, like, Commedia del arte? But I’ll end up getting called ‘Tutu girl’ or something if I don’t watch out.”
Damian gently pushed the elephant away, seeing what she was doing. She was hands deep in another box like the one they’d found in her cart. “Careful, it could be another bomb.”
“Fireworks,” Lucy corrected, “and I already diffused it.”
Damian leaned down, looking. She had indeed done so, quite efficiently. “How did you know to do that?”
Lucy smiled, “An uncle of mine taught me. You’ll meet him.” She dug further into the box. “I wouldn’t mind some more fireworks, but I don’t want to scare the elephants.” She pulled out another slip of paper.
“This has all the hallmarks of The Riddler,” Damian said, “We have to be careful. He might have bombs all over the city.”
“Fireworks!” Lucy corrected again, “And, probably. See, we already have the next clue!” She waved the paper and read out “Can you hear me make a sound, only when you are around.”
“Of course you can only hear things when you’re around.” Damian said, frowning.
“But only when someone’s around does it make a...Oh!” Lucy said, jumping to her feet, “An echo! We have to go somewhere there’s an echo!”
Damian sighed, “I have an idea.”
Technically they weren’t IN the Bat cave. They were at a far entrance to it, another end of the cave system. So he wasn’t breaking any rules. “Hey, is that Wayne Manor?” Lucy asked. “I tried to break in there once, but they have some crazy rich person security system.”
“Funny that.” Damian said, trying to seem completely ordinary.
Lucy stood at the edge of the cave and yelled into it. “ECHO!” listening for the echo in return. She skipped into the cave, humming all the way, the sound bouncing off as she went.
“Lucy?” Damian said, following her, “Don’t go too far, there’s all sorts of--” He heard a squeal and rushed forward.
He stopped short, his flashlight falling on Lucy. She waved at him to put it down, squinting. “Look here!” She brushed aside some dirt to find some rusted over metal. “Isn’t it fascinating! This cave system must go on for miles! Maybe people hid treasure there!”
“It’s just the old mining system,” Damian said, truthfully. “It’s all blocked off.”
“That can’t be hard to undo,” Lucy said, intrigued by whatever lay beyond.
Damian grabbed her hand before she could continue. “We have to catch the Riddler. There has to be another package here.”
Lucy sighed, but nodded. She took his arm with the flashlight and swung him around the cave. “Ah! There.”
She took the package and skipped out of the cave. “Careful!” Damian urged. “Come on, just diffuse it.”
“Nope, not these ones.” She tossed the package high in the sky, and Damian saw the fireworks light up.
He felt his phone buzzing, no doubt Tim could hear an explosion out here, not to mention Alfred. They’d come investigating fast enough. He leaped up, grabbing the fallen slip of paper, and grabbed Lucy again to pull her along. He read it quickly and passed it to her as he made his way away. “Even in the city scape, nature comes to take its place.” Lucy read. “It must be the park!”
l,
“No,” Damian said, still pulling her, “I mean, yes, that is the answer to the riddle, but that’s not where we’re going.” He texted the police to inform them of the location of the hidden package so they could diffuse it, and dragged Lucy away.
The original Gotham Ice Cream shop was one of the oldest remaining buildings in Gotham, although was clearly closed for the night.
Damian saw a flash of green from the kitchens and rushed inside, finding none other than the Riddler standing there. “Stand down, Riddler,” Damian said, holding out his sword, “We’ve got you now!”
Riddler snarled, backing into a defensive stance. “Robin! How did you possibly find me?”
Damian smirked, “The beginning of each clue was clearly spelling out your final location. I-C-E. I didn’t need to follow 5 more clues to figure that out.”
Riddler cursed. “Those clues weren’t for you! They were for--!”
Lucy came skipping up to join Damian. “Hi, Uncle Eddy!”
“Lucille!” Riddler said, immediately warming. “I had so many sights around Gotham for you to see, why’d you go skipping to the end?”
Lucy skipped up to him, and Damian was once again left dumbfounded. “My friend Birdy here isn’t much for riddles, I think,” she said, “Although he enjoyed the elephants! And he knew about the mining carts in the caves, I want to explore those later.”
‘Uncle Eddy’ hugged Lucy, and Damian came to his senses, “THIS is your uncle?!”
Lucy shrugged, “I mean, that’s what I call him. I met him when I was visiting Aunt Harley a few years ago.”
“I heard you had moved to Gotham full time,” Riddler said, “I wanted to be sure you saw the sights. But the bat-brats have to ruin everything I suppose.” Riddler glared at him, and he glared right back.
“I don’t-” Damian started, but cut himself off, “You can’t just be leaving BOMBS around the city!”
“Fireworks!” Lucy and Riddler both corrected.
“Whatever! They’re explosive and they’re dangerous!” Damian hated having to be the safety one. It felt wrong.
Riddler rolled his eyes. “He’s just as much a barrel of laughs as the big one.”
“Aw, he’s sweet, really,” Lucy said, coming over to Damian and linking their arms. “Aunt Harley and Batman set us up on our own little playdate.”
“It is NOT!” Damian said, squirming away from her, “It is NOT a playdate.”
“Uncle Eddy, can my friend Birdy have some Ice Cream too?” Lucy asked, ignoring him.
Riddler and Damian glared again. “Fine.” He pushed his own bowl of ice cream towards Damian and went to get his own. “It’s MYSTERY flavor!”
Damian looked at it hesitantly as Lucy sat down to enjoy. Riddler went back to the kitchen. “It’s coconut,” Lucy said, “But Uncle Eddy likes to think it’s a mystery, so I let him.”
Damian frowned at her. “You’re really weird.”
“Thank you!” Lucy said, patting the seat beside her. “Come on, even you had to admit you had fun today.”
Damian thought about the elephants, and skipping around with Lucy, and watching the fireworks at the mouth of the cave, and seeing her all excited about mining carts for some reason. “Fine,” he said, “But it’s NOT a playdate.”
“Alright, alright,” Lucy said, digging into her ice cream. “Just a regular date then.”
“I--” Damian started, his head exploding with so many protests that he ended up just short circuiting. Lucy continued chowing down on ice cream like she didn’t say anything of importance. So, Damian just sat beside her, and ate his own.

Sweet Façade
Small globs of rain descended from the gloomy sky as a calm shower of precipitation stretched out for miles, something which didn't bother the calm male as he coolly made his way into the shelter, brushing off the bits of moisture that stuck to his shoulders with his gloved hands.
“ Package for miss (f/n) (l/n),” the arriving porter said aloud, his voice bouncing off the walls of the safe enclosure as he stepped forward, all while detaching the special package from his backpack,
“Hello? Anyone here?” He questioned loudly before he stepped right before the access terminal, placing his other hand out to utilize it, waiting a total of three minutes before he received a response back,
"Hello?" greeted a woman’s voice, sounding huffy and breathy, having just run through her little underground home to greet him.
Before him a holograph appeared, the moving image of the young, (h/c) haired woman greeting him,
“Did you say package?” She said with surprise, her brows raised high as her eyes seemed peeled wide, “For me?” She added with apparent curiosity, all while pointing a single index towards herself.
At the question, she watched as his gloved index finger trail beneath the letters of her name, sounding them out with a sure nod.
He wore a sweet smile as he addressed her, "(F/n) (L/n), That's you right?" He asked, his liquid blue eyes raised up to her, glued to her artificial image with unmistakable fascination.
Despite the knowing fact that she was simply just a hologram, the porter had trouble straying his eyes anywhere else. Selfishly, he swallowed her whole, not having a mind for anything else but the (e/c) eyed beauty manifested before him.
Oblivious, (f/n) remained calm, not having an idea as to how intensely the man eyed her, nor was she aware of the merriment that shone within his blue crystals as the white cap he wore obscured a good portion of his face.
She did, however, notice his growing smile, and catching onto the subtle curl of his lips she mirrored him, nodding.
Smiling gently in return she responded, “That's me,” she told him with a firm nod, " But I wasn't expecting anything," she said with a bit of confusion, still offering him the pleasant upturn nonetheless.
" Oh?" He said back to her, his eyes finding hers, staring right at her image with surprised, widened orbs. "That's pretty weird, cause the name here is yours," he said tapping the container, " This is also your location," he added as he placed the package down, a sure grin on his face as he waited for her to receive it.
‘You’ll just love it,’ He thought to himself, certain. ‘I just know it...Just like I know you…’
"Ok, let's see," He heard her mutter as she came down to it, inspecting it with the curiosity of a kitten.
She then opened it carefully, not sure what to expect at first.
It wasn’t like she didn’t trust the porter, she had no reason to, but still, she was somewhat skeptical.
‘I didn’t order anything,’ She told herself, ‘in fact, it’s rather strange he’s  even made it all the way here,’ She mused, ‘Given the storm and all,’ she went on.
She had doubts, however, the moment her eyes landed on the contents within the secured case, her eyes grew wide, glimmering with absolute joy,
‘Could it be?’ She wondered, swallowing hard, her hand gently skimming over the surface of the hardcovered book.
Stunned, she stared down at the item with stillness before she gave an unexpected jump, a literal hop full of glee that surprised the man,
" I can't believe this!" She said with astonishment , pressing the small booklet close to her chest, twirling around happily. She held it with adoration as she beamed at the porter, unable to hide all the giddiness she felt,
"You have no idea what this means to me!" She said happily.
He watched her, his head slightly cocking to the side as he watched the woman gleam, a joy so sweet and pure worn out on display, that he felt it was a shame not many people could get a chance at such a lovely sight.
He'd never felt his chest hurt so much, and with such sweetness nonetheless,
‘It’s only when I think about you,’ He thought with a shake to his head. 'That's the only time this happens,' He added, wanting to press her hand to his chest so she could feel the heavy bouncing for herself, just so she’d understand how intensely he felt for her.
(e/c) colored eyes seemed so warm and sweet, being windows to a heart he wanted to hold and claim, one that he was certain was deserving of everything lovely the world had left to give,
‘Sweetheart,’ he mused, ‘I’d snatch up what’s left of the world just to give it to you... If it'd make you smile just like that, I wouldn't hesitate.' He silently assured her.
She was like an innocent, little butterfly walking right along his bloodied palm,
careless and free, small and beautiful…
Of course, the lovely, delicate creature didn't know the malicious danger she was in. She was unsuspecting as such, naively crawling over his mercy, trusting in his words and his convincing façade.
He knew who he was, what he was capable of, and with the same little perk to his mouth, he wondered what would take place,
Just how would their love take course?
Would he simply crush her? Unintentionally, would he end up destroying her just as he had a habit to do so to many other things in his life?
‘If you’d be mine, would I somehow ruin you? ’ He thought with a touch of sadness,
Or
Would he adore her so much as to keep her in a glass jar? Far away from everyone else, safely hidden away until only he knew where she was being kept,
‘How long would I have to hide you?’ He wondered, knowing that somewhere along the line he’d be challenged,
‘Eventually, he’ll come looking for you,’ He thought with a little huff of amusement, one so small, the woman had ignored it, not paying it any mind.
‘I know I would. I’d go crazy trying to find you again,’
"Where did you even find this?" (f/n) asked, astonished. " I'd lost hope I'd ever see this again," she said, continuing to hug the small booklet, looking down at the porter with open ears.
“ I know we haven't met personally, but I come here frequently,” He informed her, not entirely lying because he did make frequent deliveries to her as a freelance porter.
However, as of late, he’d been busy with Amelie,
‘And her bullshit,’ He thought annoyed.
In fact, he made sure he was the only one that ever really got through,
‘I make an attempt at it,’ He thought with more annoyance, knowing that somehow, Sam bridges made it through to her,
‘Every...single...time.
Somehow Bridges gets a hold of you.’ He added with disdain.
“Anyways, I was just going along with my normal deliveries and I happened to come across it," he further explained, " I've also got some fuel here for you, seems like it's an old order you'd made a month back that just never made it's way here. I  figured  I'd drop it off  to you, and maybe get the chance to finally greet you," He said with a small chuckle, causing her to release one of her own,
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry!" She said with true regret evident, even through her little giggle. " Even moreso, Thank you!" she added,
" It's taken too long for us to meet each other then, " She added while shaking her head.
"Entirely," He added softly, agreeing.
Carefully setting the book aside, she continued to happily chat with the man,
"From the bottom of my heart, I'd like to thank you for your service, " She said with gratitude, wishing she had something else to offer him other than a meager ‘thanks.’
"Oh no, no please!" He fretted, both hands set before him, "I don't do this to get praised, you're making me blush," he added, keeping the little grin she wore alive.
“Um, hey, If you don’t mind me asking,” he started, “ what is it? " He asked, sounding interested, speaking in regards to the booklet she'd earlier pressed against her bosom.
"What was in the package? It must have been something real important to you, given your reaction," he said with a hint of tease in his tone.
Glowing pink she bowed her head with embarrassment, thinking of how silly she seemed with her little squealing and twirling,
"I'm sorry you had to see that," She muttered with embarrassment, hiding her face within her hands.
'Are you kidding me?' He thought to himself, 'Baby, you're killing me... being so damn cute with me...'
"If it makes you feel better, it made my day," he said amused, causing her to release a little groan, "Nooo…"
"I'll remember this day for a long time," he added, causing her to throw her head back, "Stop it!" She whined, continuing to laugh.
It’d been the first time in weeks she’d laughed, so much so, she’d forgotten she even had the ability to do so.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding," He told her, "but it is a nice pick me up," He added, not lying at all.
"Really?" she said with a placid, little pleasant smile taking over as she settled down from her little fit, "How?" She asked with a shake to her head, wondering how her strange outburst could have ever made anyone's day.
"Defiantly. Being stuck out there in this gloomy weather all day,  you're smile feels like the sun," he beamed, causing her face to instantly burn as the words reached her.
"customers like you are the best," he added, loving how easy it was to cause her to fluster. "So I should be thanking you," He continued on, knowing just what he was doing, slipping in little teases masked by convincing innocence.
"Anyways, the book," he pointed out, making (f/n) snap out of her little daze,
" Oh," She said while calming, " This book...It's actually just a mess of things," she confessed, instantly smiling so hard her eyes were squeezed together.
"it's stupid...really," she muttered with the same cute upturn that had him swooning.
The booklet was full of pressed flowers and leaves, along with  little pictures she'd taken, as well as a written page here and there that were coupled with meaningless, little doodles on every other page.
It wasn't much, probably worthless trash to others, but a treasure to her, holding memories and sweet moments, all the things she never wanted to forget.
"I guess you could say it's like an old diary of mine," she explained, not going into much more detail before their conversation was interrupted by a loud-sounding crash outside the enclosure.
It was then that a harsh banging sound spread across the field outside, traveling into her home in a violent boom, startling her. A sharp gasp left her as she looked up to her ceiling with a tremor raking her entire body.
Heavy rain continued to fall, all sounding stronger than it had a few minutes prior, and at the recognition of the large, vicious goblets attacking her structure, her gaiety ceased in its entirety, (dark/light) eyebrows creased up with worry as she cringed at the strong downpour that crashed over the roof of her little home.
She could hear it echoing even from her safe enclosure, knowing that just outside, it disintegrated everything it smothered.
'Again with this endless downpour ;  Again with another storm, ' she thought with a mix of bitterness and sadness, because yet again she thought of the traveling porter whose name had become infamous now.
Connecting the world…
Bringing everyone together…
Through blood and sweat; Through harsh breaths and slim escape as well, he did it all.
'I hope you're not out there right now… stuck somewhere with those monsters,' she thought with a forelone expression placed over her. 'that merciless rain that takes everything it touches…the same one that won’t hesitate to take you as well,’ she added as she felt her heart race, anxiousness clawing at the walls within the muscle.
'Please...Please be safe,' She thought while a dark cloud loomed over her.
Meanwhile, the man outside watched, his eyes fixed on her saddened expression, his gaze softened as he looked on to what he considered to be a true gem, because even as she began to grow sullen, she was a charming sight,
'Downright breathtaking,’ he thought astounded.
If only he could run his fingers through those strands of (h/c), and not just that, but coo sweet words close to her ear to lure yet another smile from her.
He’d give anything for another one of those wide grins, much more to see the previously settled cute, little color find it's way onto her sweet face.
'Anything,' He thought while lovestruck. ‘ I’d give anything to do so,’ he added.
' But for now, I have to go. ' he thought with a pout, unloading the rest of the lost cargo he mentioned earlier, sending it through to her.
“Well I should be heading off,” he said with a small wave, causing her to stare wide-eyed, her mouth hanging open at his sudden leave.
'The damn storm is picking up,' She told herself, 'And he just up and leaves?!' she added worriedly.
“Hey! Wait Just a minute!” She cried out, her voice laced with alarm, “ Don't tell me you plan on going out there like that," she said with concern, her hand reaching out to him as a natural response despite the fact that they were in separate rooms, not anywhere near for her to grip him back.
He looked back at her with a half-smile, his blue eyes staring dead at her startled expression. Grimacing, he spoke, "I think I don't have a choice do I ? besides it's my job," he told her with dismissiveness towards his own well-being, something that astounded her.
"I had just planned to drop off your deliveries and be off, " He told her, " But I got so caught up talking to you, I lost track of time, " He explained, " I should have left a long time ago!" He said shaking his head, seeming disappointed with himself.
"Anyways, don't worry about me mam," he said pulling up a boyish grin while mock saluting her by using his pointer and middle finger, "You just stay safe," he added, not really wanting to leave, but of course not having any other choice.
It would have been easy for him to simply take her, singlehandedly destroying everything that got in his path from doing so, but he’d decided that with her, he wasn’t taking that risk.
'He's crazy,' (f/n) thought to herself, jumping at a particularly loud clap from outside her thick, protective walls.
She then better lip tightly,
 Thinking...
Contemplating…
'What if something happens to him?
What if he gets caught up in that storm? ‘
And much worse,
‘ What if he never makes it back?' She wondered distressed,
'if any of that were to happen, I wouldn't ever be able to live it down,' she told herself.
He bothered to bring back some lost package, something she'd forgotten already, all because he thought it mattered, coming through what were probably the worst conditions to travel, and much more that that he’d been loyally delivering cargo to her for a long time now.
“ Hey…” she uttered softly, sounding small uncertain at first, swallowing the heavy clump in her throat.
“ You can stay here,” she told him, growing more confident, “ There's a vacant room here that you can use,” she added, nodding with more assurance as she saw him halt in his steps.
“ You can use it if you want or, at the very least stay until the rain stops.” she offered, “That's all I ask of you,” she added, hoping he’d accept. "As far as I know, there's nothing out there to hide under...no other shelters in sight either. " she reminded him.
He then turned back to her, a grateful smile adorning him being a mask to hide the snide that lay beneath.
“You’d do that just for me?” he asked her, eyeing the melting worry that was over her face. As he seemed to contemplate the suggestion, she relaxed her shoulders dropping and her (e/c) eyes brightening.
" Please? At least until this clears up," She said lowly, nodding.
“You’ve done enough for me already, believe or not,” she further explained, “ I haven't seen another person in what feels like forever. And I know traveling through this area has gotten very difficult. But you did so...All in order to hand me some lost cargo I had honestly given up on finding." She said astounded,
"Not only that, but you also brought me some essential supplies, " She added.
" You risked your life for me when you could have very well walked away at any given moment, especially when the first storm hit. " She rambled on,
" So please," she said again, clasping her hands together, "Please Stay. Take it as a token of my gratitude seeing as I have nothing more to offer you," She bargained.
‘Truly….Truly  I am smitten,’ he thought to himself, all while nodding, pretending to be defeated by her plea.
"Just until then," he said quietly, "I wouldn't' want to impose,"
" But you're not!" She said hastily, "Believe me, you're not!" she said giggling, waving him off.
Eagerly nodding she went to open the door, “ Just come in," she responded back, all of which was a mistake of course, but how was she to know?
How could she have guessed that the man she invited in her home was none other than the same terrorist in the golden mask both feared and hated by mass populations ;
 Higgs Monaghan.
She reached out for him, her hand circling around his wrist, tugging him inside, the sudden coldness of the outside world hitting her hard before she was back within the warm safety of her home with him following in suit.
"come on," she persuaded, anxiously as she heard just how vicious the wind blew.
Safely inside he watched her, eyes fixed on the back of her head, the (h/c) hair making his fingers twitch.
They were loose, the (long/short) strands bouncing with each step she took, teasing him with their bouncing movements,
'My dear...sweet... (f/n),' Higgs mused, head over heels for the woman, mad with desire,
 'I can't wait to have you all...to...myself.'
Next : Open Heart
A/N: I fixed it. I hadn’t slept for a whole day when i completed this and I just knew I let a lot of stuff slip me. Have you ever been awake, but not awake? It’s an experience.

Collide Part 1 || Sidney Crosby
Tumblr media
Summary: Life as a single foster mom and a pediatrician didn’t leave much time for dating. But when Dr. Erin Lancaster becomes the pediatrician for Pittsburgh Penguins Defenseman Brian Dumoulin's baby boy, her association and quick friendship with his wife Kayla turns her crazy but quiet life upside down.
Requested: [ ] yes [x] no
Authors Note: Welp...I could have had a baby of my own in the time it took me to write this update...I know quite a few of you have been clamoring for it so I hope it was everything you could have imagined. I’m still not sure I have Sid’s personality down...you’d think I’d be able to write my captain better considering he was the first hockey player I ever wrote about but...at least he’s present in this part.
Warnings: discussion of opiate-addicted infants

Though my initial meeting with the Dumoulin’s had gone well in my mind, I was still somewhat surprised to step into the office a week later to find Alex practically bouncing off the walls. Taking a sip out of my coffee mug I merely raised an eyebrow at her, an inquisitive look spreading across my face.
“Don’t get me wrong...I know you’re an incredible doctor but this...this is huge and I don’t know how you did it!” She exclaimed, handing me a stack of papers. Glancing down at them revealed a completed new patient packet, sans baby’s first name, for the Dumoulin’s pending arrival and though mentally my jaw dropped, I outwardly brushed it off, pretending that it wasn’t nearly as big of a deal as it actually was.
“It’s just another patient Alex.” I reminded her. “He’ll receive the same care as every other patient.” Shaking her head, Alex rolled her eyes at me knowing exactly what I was doing. As I turned on my heel to retreat to my office for twenty minutes of paperwork before our first patient I couldn’t help but smile. “Let the rest of the nurses know they can wear penguins shirts for the home opener.” Her laugh followed me down the hallway and once inside my office I took a moment to bask in scoring my first VIP patient. This could do wonders for my practice moving forward.
___
That was the last time I’d really thought about having a Pittsburgh Penguin baby as a patient. At the office, I had too many other patients to worry about. At home, I had a five-year-old who had started school for the first time and a seven-year-old who was struggling with math. I was balancing work, helping them with school, and making sure that they had time to do kid things like attending karate and swim lessons, not to mention play dates with other kids. Time was moving faster than I could keep up with but at the same time, I prayed for it to slow down. Life as a foster mom meant that I needed to cherish every moment with these crazy boys because I knew that sooner or later they would likely be leaving my care. And that was a whole bundle of emotions that I would never fully be able to handle no matter how many times it happened.
Before I knew it, it was already November. Today was supposed to be my afternoon off, yet I found myself headed downtown to Magee Women’s Hospital.
After checking in at the front desk, I clipped my visitor’s pass onto my blouse and followed the familiar path up to the NICU. Once there I was greeted by one of the nurses I’d gotten to know from the various times I’d been here before. After gowning up, I stepped inside and she led me over to a bassinet containing a tiny baby boy. He was still hooked up to a variety of wires and tubes, his skin was mottled, and his body tremored. Looking down at him, the maternal side of me teared up. No child deserved to enter the world in this kind of pain. Reaching down, I brushed a finger over his head before trailing it down his arm to his hand. Immediately he wrapped his fist around my finger and held on tight.
“He’s a fighter.” The nurse murmured over my shoulder. “We honestly weren’t sure he was going to pull through but I’d say for the most part he’s out of the woods now.” Nodding I just watched him for a few more minutes before switching back to a more professional mode.
“Tell me about his history. Everything I need to know.” I expressed. As his nurse told me about the methadone injections he was receiving but would likely need even after he left the hospital and how his condition had been steadily improving, I listened carefully, figuring out the best plan for once he was released into my care. Brushing my fingers over the baby’s head once more, I eventually made my way out of the NICU, tossing the scrubs. It would likely be another week or so before he was ready to be released but once he was, he would be coming home with me for the foreseeable future so that he could continue to have expert care while residing in a home setting.
Checking my watch revealed that I had another hour and a half or so before I needed to pick my boys up from their various activities. As I debated what to do with that time, I fixed my hair into a fresh ponytail before moving to pull my phone from the pocket of my jeans.
“Dr. Lancaster?!” Glancing up, I saw that it was one of the nurses in the maternity ward that had called my name. Moving over to the nurses’ station I smiled at her, leaning against the counter.
“Yes?” I inquired.
“Oh good, that is you.” The young nurse murmured softly. “Melinda said you were down in the NICU…” She explained. “I was looking through the paperwork for one of our newborns and I noticed you were the pediatrician of record. Just thought I’d give you a heads up.” She expanded. “They’re down in room 314 if you wanted to pop in and say hello.” Before she had even finished speaking she was dashing off down the hall in the opposite direction as a scream sounded from one of the delivery rooms.
For a moment I stood frozen, honestly racking my brain trying to figure out what patient she was talking about. Then I started off in the direction of 314, deciding that I would just have to wait and see. It wasn’t until I noticed that this wing of the maternity ward was nearly empty that the most likely possibility clicked. Clearly keeping track of due dates was not my strongest skill...generally because I usually didn’t need to.
Approaching the room I heard soft voices speaking and I gently knocked before popping my head in. Immediately my eyes met the sight of Brian perched on the bed over his wife, newborn in her arms.
“Are you up for visitors?” I whispered. “I won’t stay long, I was just in the building and a little birdie told me you were here so I thought I’d stop by.”
Kayla’s voice was soft and tired but she quickly nodded. “Of course. Come in, come in.” She insisted. Stepping into the room I shut the door behind me and moved quietly across the room.
“How are you feeling?” I asked her. “Everything go fairly smoothly?”
“Sore. Tired.” She declared. “But he’s here and we’re both healthy so I’d say it went okay.”
“Good.” I murmured. Before I could say anything else, another knock sounded at the door and another head popped in. This time, Brian moved to stand up and as a body came through the door, I watched as the two of them hugged each other, arms moving around the flowers in the new visitor’s hand. It wasn’t until they pulled away that I realized who this visitor was and immediately my throat went dry.
“Hey, Sid.” Kayla breathed, shifting the baby a bit in her arms.
“These are for you. The team sends their love and congratulations.” He responded, moving over to give her a quick half-hug as well. It was only then that he noticed he wasn’t the only visitor in the room and paused.
“Sid, this is our pediatrician Dr. Lancaster. Dr. Lancaster, this is Sid.” Brian introduced. Suddenly a warm hand was reaching out to me in greeting and I took it, frantically trying to pull myself back together. Meeting Brian was one thing, meeting Sidney Crosby...that was another entirely.
“Nice to meet you,” Sid said, his voice familiar but yet different at the same time.
“The pleasure is all mine. But it’s just Erin.” I replied, taking a deep breath before turning back to Kayla and the baby. “Do you mind if I look at his chart?” I questioned, professional curiosity filling me. Of course, it was only a matter of time before these records were sent to me anyway, but with a nod from Kayla, I reached for his chart beside the bassinet, looking over his APGAR scores and the nurse’s notes. Nodding to myself for a moment, I set it back down and smiled.
“Sounds like you’ve got a strong, healthy little boy there.” I declared. Parental pride filled both Kayla and Brian’s faces at the compliment.
“Do you want to hold him?” Kayla asked, and never one to turn down having a baby in my arms I quickly agreed, gently shifting him to cradle against my chest. Looking between him and both Kayla and Brian I tried to determine who he looked the most like right now and when I expressed that he had Brian’s nose they both laughed.
“Have you guys picked a name?” Sid inquired from his spot leaning against the foot of the bed. Brian quickly nodded, glancing down at his wife before sharing.
“Brayden Joseph.” Glancing down at the baby in my arms I immediately decided that the name suited him and murmured softly to him in greeting, introducing myself as his doctor and expressing that I didn’t expect him to like me at first because of the required shots to keep him healthy. This time, when I looked up from talking softly to the baby Kayla and Brian were sharing a soft look as he whispered in her ear and I could feel Sid’s gaze on me. Meeting his eyes I saw warmth but also a lingering sadness and I quickly drew my bottom lip between my teeth as I broke the gaze suddenly feeling like I had a stomach full of molasses.
“So Dr. Lancaster…” Sid addressed. “Do you make hospital visits to all of your new patients?” I couldn’t tell by the tone of his voice what he was thinking or why he had asked. It wasn’t quite accusatory but at the same time, there was a tenseness to it. Deciding that I just didn’t know him and therefore shouldn’t read into it, I shrugged softly.
“Only when I happen to already be in the building.”
“Yeah, you mentioned that….everything okay?” Brian jumped in.
“Of course. I was here in a semi-professional manner.” I explained. “I needed to stop down at the NICU to meet a baby that I’ll be fostering when he’s released so that I could figure out what I need and discuss the best care plan.”
“Dr. Lancaster...Erin…” Kayla quickly corrected, nodding at me for my approval. “In addition to being an incredible doctor, is also a foster parent, Sid.” There was an underlying current of unspoken communication going on between the three of them, one that I wasn’t going to pry into.
“So you’ll have a newborn at home in addition to the other two?” Kayla asked as Brayden started fussing causing me to hand him back to his mom.
“Lord help me but yes.” I breathed, chuckling softly. “I’ll have three boys. Two rambunctious ones that keep me on my toes and then this new baby which might be the hardest to deal with of all three. I love when I get babies into my care but hate when it’s because they were born with opiate addiction and need specialized care just to stand a chance.” Both Kayla and Brian’s eyes went wide and I shoved my right hand into the front pocket of my jeans. “I’m not gonna lie, he's still in rough shape but the nurses think he’s out of the woods now. It always breaks my heart seeing them that way though. Knowing I’m going to have to give him daily injections for at least a few more weeks to help his body slowly withdraw from the drugs he’s been exposed to.”
“Wow.” This time the voice came from Sid and I nodded glancing over at him.
“It breaks my heart but I’ll do it again and again because I know that my experience and ability to provide elevated care and monitoring gives him the best chance moving forward.”
The mood in the room had taken a turn for the serious and I let out a deep breath before pasting a smile back on my face.
“It makes me even more grateful though for all of my patients that have fantastic momma’s and who are healthy and strong.” I tease, my words thankfully bringing a smile back to Kayla’s face and then Brian’s along with his wife’s.
Feeling my phone buzz in my pocket, I glance at my watch again and mumble a curse.
“And this was already longer than the short visit I promised, but I have to get going, I’ve got a seven-year-old to pick up from karate and then I have to make dinner for him and the five-year-old being dropped off from a play date.”
“Thank you for stopping by.” Brian declared, moving over to shake my hand.
“Of course. I’ll see you guys soon.” I promised. Still, there was something about the look on Kayla’s face that made me pause though I did need to leave. “Hey, Brian...grab your phone.” Once he had, I rattled off my cell phone number. “If you guys have any questions, concerns, etc. Things that you think it would be too silly to call the office over, text or call me. I know first-time parenthood isn’t easy but you’re gonna be great.”
As I headed for the door, I turned for just a moment.
“And it was nice to meet you, Sid.”
It wasn’t until both boys were tucked into bed and I was settled into my own trying to get my mind to shut down so I could sleep that the encounter with Sid entered my mind once more. It wasn’t something I could wrap my mind around, his behavior struck me for reasons I couldn’t explain but at the same time, I couldn’t get the feeling of his hand in my own or the swirling shades of his eyes out of my head. It was a level of confusion I just didn’t have the mental capacity to deal with so I brushed it aside, refocusing my brain on all of the things I needed to get done tomorrow.

Be still my indelible friend (Overwatch)
So this is inspired by the “Love Triangle” scenario @lovely-starry-universe shared. (sorry it’s not TMA, @beaugtifuw but maybe consider it as an alternative to death?) This is also separate from my other fics.
Be still my indelible friend, you are unbreaking Though quaking, though crazy That’s just wasteland, baby ~ Hozier, “Wasteland, Baby!” Roadhog wanted to rub his eyes, aching behind his mask. He felt like he was going to sneeze, but his head throbbed and sneezing would make it worse. He really wanted to disappear into his quarters and sleep whatever this was off, without the mask so he could sneeze as necessary and blow his nose. Unfortunately he was stuck here, trying to keep Junkrat from noticing he was getting sick.
Junkrat always noticed, even if he was in the middle of working something up for Torbjörn, or messing with one of Lena’s pulse bombs. Could be completely immersed in his work, muttering about whatever crossed his mind as he pieced things together, but the minute Roadhog started feeling off, sometimes before he actually registered the sensation in his own body, Junkrat would be there with tea or Kleenex or cough drops. Whatever Roadhog might need. Or want. No matter how many times Roadhog told him to stop - didn’t need coddling - Junkrat just shrugged and kept on. Irritating. Not a sook and rankled that Junkrat thought he was.
Reckoned the Rat had a point, though. Hard to intimidate when one was constantly sniffling. Like he was doing right now. Just about to get up and find his own tissues when footsteps clanked down the passage outside the door and Junkrat finally looked up from his wires. Not at him, though. At the man currently leaning in the doorway.
“Oi, Lucio! Welcome back, mate. How’d it go,” Junkrat asked.
Lucio gusted a sigh. “Horrible. She’s gonna be gone for months, and as a goodbye gift she gave me her cold.”
Junkrat laughed, but not meanly. “Now that ain’t fair.” He crossed the room and pressed his hand to Lucio’s forehead. “Might be warm.”
“Eh, no big. Just feel a little under… the… weather.” His voice wavered up on the word and suddenly he pitched forward. “Hitchoo! I’tchoo!”
“Bless ya, mate.” Junkrat tossed him a box of tissues from under a pile of detritus.
“Oh, thanks, man.” Lucio shook his head at himself. “Could’ve been a disaster.”
“Who takes care of the medic when the medic’s feelin’ crook?”
Lucio pulled a tragic face, but was clearly trying not to grin.  “No one, now that Hana’s away.”
“That ain’t right. Patched me up often enough, right Roadie? Only fair if I do the same. C’mere; sit.” He steered Lucio to the other side of the couch, put a blanket around his shoulders. Then he began to fill, not the kettle for tea, but the coffee pot. Lucio liked coffee. Roadhog didn’t.
As the coffee brewed, Junkrat asked Lucio about the trip to Busan.
Lucio made a so-so gesture. “Meeting the parents was okay - they didn’t hate me. Maybe. But Dae-hyun’s another story. I’m surprised he didn’t try to poison my soda.”
“But you’re the dead nicest person I ever met. Can’t imagine you were rude. What’d ya do?”
“He thinks it’s my fault Hana won’t be more than his friend.”
“An’ it ain’t?”
“Nah, she sees him like a brother. Anyway, we’re open. If she wanted to be with him, it’d be fine with me.”
“Huh,” Junkrat made a considering noise and Roadhog caught him looking at Lucio with an unreadable expression. Which was weird - Junkrat usually had the opposite of a poker face. Made playing cards against him profitable.
When Lucio’s voice went hoarse, Junkrat took over the conversation, making his usual terrible jokes. Going into far too much detail about the modification to Torb’s turret he was working on. Nattering.
And Roadhog realized he was going to sneeze. Hated doing it with the mask; small as the sneezes were, still felt fucking gross. Hated more doing it with an audience. Too many comments over the years about ‘big guy, tiny sneeze’ ha ha ha fucking hilarious. Ducked his head, tried holding his breath and kept it tightly contained to just a shudder.
No one responded. Thank fuck.
Felt odd, though. Unsettled. Maybe he was getting a fever? But he didn’t have that bone deep ache yet. Just felt… not right.
The day wore on. At some point Lucio switched from coffee to orange juice. His voice was barely more than a croak. Junkrat teased him about sounding like a frog and instead of biting his head off, like Roadhog would have - well deserved, in his opinion - Lucio just laughed and pretended to eat a fly. Roadhog rolled his eyes. Immature. Both of them.
Lucio shivered, just once, and Junkrat dug his own scarf out of another pile of random crap and wrapped it carefully around Lucio’s neck, the orange and yellow stripes shining bright against his dark skin.
“Thanks, man,” Lucio said, sincerely, a flush rising up his neck. Fever? Or something else? He put his hand on Junkrat’s arm, and Rat covered it with his own. Roadhog looked away.
Every single time Lucio sneezed, Junkrat blessed him. And at each blessing, Lucio said thanks. He didn’t get irritated, he didn’t snap or growl. He just kept Junkrat cheerful company, laughing at Rat’s jokes (even, or maybe especially, the terrible ones), making listening noises in response to his endless stories, face nuzzled down in Junkrat’s scarf.
Finally, Junkrat noticed his head nodding forward, eyes drooping closed. “Why’nt you head to bed, mate? Ain’t gotta keep us entertained.”
Lucio yawned, stretched. “Sorry. Just exhausted suddenly. I was going to stop by the mess hall for some food first, but…” He sneezed suddenly, ducking into the scarf. “Oops! Shit. I’ll wash it before I give it back, I promise.”
“Bless ya. No worries.” Junkrat shrugged. “Saw Mei cooking some of her chicken noodle soup earlier. I’ll bring you a bowl.”
“You’re a lifesaver, Junkrat. If Mercy caught me anywhere near the mess with this cold I wouldn't have to worry about being sick for very long.”
Junkrat mimed a shudder. “Too right. Sheila only looks sweet and innocent.”
“Thanks again.” Lucio tossed a wave over his shoulder as he sauntered out. “See ya, Roadhog.”
Junkrat whistled tunelessly as he cleaned up his workbench. Roadhog struggled against another sneeze. He tried to ignore it, to think of something else, but the tickle was insistent. Fuck it. He ducked his head, sneezed once, then again. Junkrat’s whistle didn’t falter. Was focused, maybe, on what he was doing. Roadhog tried to breathe carefully, but his nose wanted to drip so he sniffed, and then he needed to sneeze again.  An annoying as shit self-perpetuating cycle.
He glanced around the room for the box of tissues. Apparently Lucio’d taken it with him. Of fucking course. “Junkrat. Gonna head up to my quarters for a bit.” Maybe he’d be focused enough not to ask…
“Ya ain’t hungry? ‘S well past lunch. Don’t think I’ve ever heard ya turn down a meal, ‘specially when Mei’s cooking.”
Roadhog wanted to groan, but kept it to a sigh. “No, yeah. Let’s go.” He was a little hungry. He’d pick up a bowl of soup in the mess hall and when Junkrat made his delivery to Lucio he could slip off. Soup would help, and maybe then he could get sleep. Or at least a little peace and quiet.
Luckily no one was in the mess hall when they stopped by, so it was a shorter trip than if Junkrat’d had someone to talk at. Just filled their bowls and, balancing his own and Lucio’s because sometimes Rat’s mech hand had trouble with the porcelain, followed Rat to Lucio’s quarters. Shit - his nose wanted to drip. Sniffed against it, which triggered an urge to sneeze. With his hands full of soup. Balls. Couldn’t even get Junkrat’s attention, any attempt to talk and he’d lose the tenuous control he clung to.
A breath, another breath… only a few more steps until he could hand off the bowl… and he realized he wasn’t going to make it. Stopped and braced for it and “Ht’nxxt!  Ngxxt! …. Ht’nxxt!” Let his breath out carefully. It felt like he’d exploded his sinuses, but at least he didn’t spill scalding liquid over his hands. Small mercy. Junkrat was already knocking at Lucio’s door, a rhythmic tapping that wasn’t like his usual fist at Roadhog’s door.
Lucio opened the door and a soft tune wafted out like smoke. He’d clearly been working on some new music. A pair of headphones was around his neck. He’d changed from his travel clothes into a pair of sweatpants, and an oversized sweatshirt with two laughing gingerbread men that said, “Let’s get baked.”
Thanks, guys. Appreciate it.” He seemed to notice Roadhog staring and glanced down, then chuckled. “It’s from Hana,” he said, as if that explained everything.  “I’d invite you in, but I’m probably contagious.”
“Ah, no need to sit around all by your lonesome, sick an’ miserable. I never get sick. And Roadie’s already got it. He’s been sneezing all day.” Junkrat waved a hand at Roadhog dismissively.
“Oh, sorry Roadhog! I didn’t know you were sick.”
“Ain’t nothing,” he mumbled. So Junkrat knew? And hadn’t said anything? Hadn’t even blessed him once? What the hell?
Lucio stepped back to let them in and, with no idea how to bow out gracefully, Roadhog followed. The room was dark, lit only by a few strings of colorful fairy lights. Lucio’d made himself a nest on the couch, pillows and blankets and his laptop. His sound system sent out a low bass beat, overlaid with electronic melody and a voice that sounded almost like Hana, singing something he couldn't make out. In the corner of the room was an altar with a buddha statue and a candle lit in front. He let Junkrat take the spot next to Lucio on the couch, and sat on an arm chair across from them. It was a surprisingly welcoming space and Roadhog found himself relaxing, almost against his will.
Junkrat made himself useful, cleaning up the dishes when they’d finished eating. Making sure Lucio was comfortable, that he had a glass of water and tissues in easy reach. When Lucio yawned, Junkrat pulled him close, to lean against his shoulder. He launched into some ridiculous, and likely embellished, story about a heist he’d pulled on the Queen of Junkertown sometime in the years before he and Roadhog started working together. Lucio made impressed noises, egging him on, and each story got less likely than the last.
And then Lucio turned away from Junkrat, sneezing again. “Hitchoo! I’tchoo! Ugh, excuse me. I’m so gross.” He blew his nose.
“Bless ya. And no ya ain’t. Least ya got a normal sneeze, not like me. I sneeze like a bomb going off.” Junkrat tugged him close again and Lucio relaxed against his side, laughing.
“It’s true, though. An’ apparently size don’t matter in these things ‘cause Roadie sneezes like a kitten.”
Roadhog felt himself going red under the mask. He really, really did not want to be having this conversation. Not with Lucio, and not with the tickle that was building again. “Could you not make fun of me for five fucking minutes? Damn, Junkrat.”
“Don’t be such a touchy bastard. Ya know I don’t mean nothing by it.”
He wanted to keep arguing, to cuss Junkrat out for being such an asshole, especially while he was just as sick as Lucio, but part of him wondered whether he might, actually, be overreacting. Worse, he was pretty sure he was going to sneeze. He raised a wrist to the nose of his mask, like that was somehow going to help, but the tickle was too strong to  be contained. “Huh… chu! Chu! Chu!” Kept his head down when he finished because Junkrat was right, he did sneeze like a fucking kitten and he hated it. Hated that Junkrat teased him about it, hated that Lucio was there to hear it, hated that he hadn’t just gone to his quarters before Lucio ever got back from Busan.
“Bless you, Roadhog,” Lucio said after a couple beats of silence. And that just made it worse. Lucio blessing him, not Junkrat.
The cold must be fucking him up more than he thought, because everything just felt like shit suddenly. His head hurt and his body hurt and his eyes hurt. He needed to blow his nose but then he’d have to take off his mask and Lucio would see all the fucking scars and he’d ask too many questions because he wouldn’t know not to and what could he possibly say? And Junkrat was ignoring him and paying attention to Lucio and he fucking hated that and he didn’t know why it bothered him so much and he didn’t want it to bother him, but it did, bothered him like a blister his boot kept rubbing over and over. Irritating and painful and it was just one more thing on top of everything and he hated it. Because Junkrat was his friend first. Was his first… but Lucio was so much nicer about everything. So much kinder and softer and not at all an asshole.
Suddenly he felt a hand on his shoulder and he realized he’d been shaking, just a little. “Ya okay, Hoggie?” Junkrat’s voice was unusually soft, almost gentle.
“Fine,” he said, but the attempted sharpness was blunted with congestion and he coughed. And he didn’t push away Rat’s hand.
“No, ya ain’t.” Junkrat stood between Roadhog and Lucio, and carefully loosened the mask then lifted it away from his face, slow enough to be stopped. Roadhog didn’t. Then, just as carefully, Junkrat took a Kleenex and wiped Roadie’s eyes. Then his nose. Roadhog sighed and rested his forehead on Junkrat’s belly. “Hey, hey. What’s this, then? Thought ya didn’t want any attention when you’re sick.”
“Thought not, too,” he mumbled without moving.
“Ya jealous.” There was the lilt of laughter in the words.
Roadhog shrugged. “Maybe.”
“Ya are!  Ain’t no reason for it! Might be mean as cat’s piss when yer sick, but it don’t matter. You’re my Hog, an’ that’s the way of it.”
 “But Lucio…”
“Reckon I can take care of ya both. Yeah?”
Roadhog nodded, and when Junkrat stepped aside, Roadhog kept the mask off and Lucio didn’t ask about the scars, or make any comment at all. He just smiled and offered a movie night and that was how they ended up sprawled across Lucio’s bed, Roadhog on one side, Lucio on the other and Junkrat between them, arms around them both. Sometime in the middle of the movie, they dozed off, warm and comfortable.

151 *Metropolitan (90) it’s definitely a Christmas movie
152 Black Christmas (74)
THEATRE:HOME - 2:150 (thanks pandemic)
I usually separate out docs and fiction, but I watched almost no documentaries this year (with the exception of Dick Johnston). Reality is real enough.
TV Series
01 - BoJack Horseman (final season) - Pretty damned poignant finish to the show, replete with actual consequences for our reformed bad boy protagonist (which is more than you can say for most antiheroes of Peak TV).
02 - *Hello Ladies - I enjoy the pure awkwardness of seeing Stephen Merchant try to perform being a Regular Person, but ultimately this show tips him too far towards a nasty, Ricky Gervais-lite sort of persona. Perhaps he was always best as a cameo appearance, or lip synching with wild eyes while Chrissy Teigen giggles?
03 - Olive Kittredge - a rough watch by times. I read the book as well, later in the year. Frances Mcdormand was the best, possibly the only, casting option for the flinty lead. One episode tips into thriller territory, which is a shock.
04 - *The Wire S3, S4, S5 - lockdown culture! It was interesting to rewatch this, then a few months later go through an enormous, culture-level reappraisal of cop-centred narratives.
05 - Forever - a Maya Rudolph/Fred Armisen joint that coasts on the charm of its leads. The premise is OK, but I wasn’t left wanting any more at the end.
06 - *Catastrophe - a rewatch when my partner decided he wanted to see it, too!
07 - Red Oak - resolutely “OK” steaming dramedy, relied heavily on some pretty obvious cues to get across its 1980s setting.
08 - Little Fires Everywhere - gulped this one down while in 14-day isolation, delicious! Every 90s suburban mom had that SUV, but not all of them had the requisite **secrets**
09 - The Great - fun historical comedy/drama! Costumes: lush. Actors: amusing. Race-blind casting: refreshing!
10 - The Crown S4 - this is the season everyone lost their everloving shit for, since it’s finally recent enough history that a fair chunk of the viewing audience is liable to recall it happening.
11 - Ted Lasso - we resisted this one for a while (thought I did enjoy the ad campaign for NBC sports (!!) that it was based on). My view is that its best point was the comfort that the men on the show have (or develop, throughout the season) with the acknowledgement and sharing of their own feelings. Masculinity redux.
12 - Moonbase 8 - Goodnatured in a way that makes you certain they will be crushed.
13 - The Good Lord Bird - Ethan Hawke is really aging into the character actor we always hoped he would be!
14 - Hollywood - frothy wish-fulfillment alternate history. I think the show would have been improved immeasurably by skipping the final episode.

every single lmam song, ranked.
i just finished listening to let’s make a music for the first time, and Oh My God it rocks. it’s a great podcast and if you’re reading this without having listened to it...i don’t know what to tell you. i don’t know what you think lmam means. but, that aside, if you haven’t listened to it yet: go listen to it! it’s not a crazy long podcast, overall or episode length-wise, so it’s manageable even for people who usually can’t handle podcasts (like me!) anyways, now that it’s over, what’s left for me to do with my time and energy that i used to spend thinking about lmam?
listen to the episodes again so that i can rank all fourty-one songs from worst to best, of course. so that’s exactly what i did.
i mostly ranked these on my gut feeling, because i didn’t come up with the idea of ranking it on a set of points before like...five minutes ago. there’s a bit of personal bias in here, so if you disagree with me on rankings, hey! send me an ask, or a dm. we can talk about it.
so, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get into it! let’s...make a ranking. haha. that’s just a fun little lmam joke for you.
41. the roquefort stank
this song only gets points for laura’s stanky noises in the background. i love laura.
40. shan’t he shanty
weirdly catchy. for a sea shanty, that is. that’s all i have to say.
39. well, i’m on child...
i do love a good gay song about polyamory but it just wasn’t enough in this case. truly heartbreaking.
38. dog trash
i’m not a big fan of polka in general. that’s all i have to say. i don’t have to explain all my decisions. this is my journey. and it’s your journey that you’re taking with me.
37. echoes of wednesday
it’s not my favorite but i do think it’s sweet and i like all the laura vocals. also the zuko vocals.
36. brothers in legs
not their best character song but it’s still a song you could quietly headbang to. i just don’t love full story ballads (there is an exception to this, you’ll see) most of the time.
35. ol’ tim’s tricks
i’m not saying it’s a bad song, i’m just saying it sounds like it was once in a made for tv disney channel-esque movie about a girl who finds her calling in sports and friendship.
34. don’t give me that altitude
very queen-esque with general 80s vibes and i like that.
33. dreamless
if it was longer i think it would be a lot higher on the list, because it’s Good. but i don’t feel right putting a 45 second song above, like, tobie’s razor. still! i love the mellow, kind of sad and eerie tones of it.
32. holiday crime!
look i know this one’s fairly low on the list, hear me out: it’s a good song and it’s pretty memorable as well! but as far as holiday songs go, i don’t think it’s their best or most iconic one. laura’s laughing and beat in the back is absolutely wonderful and heartwarming, though.
31. mr. dad
this one gets a higher rating than the previous holiday song for its good good harmonica and because when i heard the lyrics “but you love to watch him go” used to describe mr. dad i almost toppled my chair backwards with me still in it.
30. mourning ritual
the biggest load of 1980s bullshit i’ve ever heard in this decade. somehow it’s also got a big panic! at the disco vibe and i’m not sure how i feel about it but it’s definitely Strongly There and i can’t deny it.
29. outback sadhouse
it’s RIDICULOUS how well they nailed the sufjan stevens vibe with this one. plus the restaurant dialogue bit in the back of the song really adds a lot.
28. let down my better dynamite
it’s really easy to bop to and the instrumental in the background is FANTASTIC! jonah really killed it with this one. plus they talk a lot about rats in the episode which is nice for me because i love rats. also it’s the first episode with an instance of “brian does a bit”.
27. the tale of the greazzy creek
i just think it absolutely nails the vibe of a rural campfire grizzled old cowboy song while also being a really catchy theme song. like, i think you could’ve snuck it into holes (2003) and i would’ve been like, yeah, that sounds right.
26. turn around and come down slowly
not one of their more iconic songs but brian’s voice is so pretty in this and it’s really soothing.
25. ratless randy’s
i don’t know why it’s this high on the list either, but it is. ratless randy’s really IS the place to be, guys.
24. tobie’s razor
i will be honest. when i saw the title for this episode for the first time i just thought “occam’s razor” and as i type this i can’t even think of what that actually is, so..... anyways, i’d say this song absolutely NAILS the vibe but i have no idea what vibe it’s even remotely related to. certainly does nail the internal childhood monologue though. i think this song is the first one where they really started hitting their stride, also. not that it’s better than some of the earlier ones, but this one forward their songs were pretty consistently high quality. plus, and no one will be surprised by this by now, it gets extra points for laura.
23. armoire of royals
it’s weird, it’s synthy, has a vaguely billie eilish-esque part near the end which is not necessarily a point in favor depending on your taste but it Definitely is surprising and cool, and it’s got fake british accents. what more do you need out of a song?
22. sybil’s night scare
the piano in this is perfect and fantastic and the comedic timing in the song is just right. jonah’s delivery of “they’re actually real human eyes” is so goddamn good and his singing is Also great and frankly i think we can all agree we’re fucking tired of him saying he can’t sing. i mean, i assume (i fucking hope) he’s stopped saying that by now considering he had the majority of vocals on silo by a bit but Still. it’s a good peppy halloween-y song.
21. chalice for your thoughts
two spooky songs in a row! honestly, i’m not sure what reasons i have for ranking this song as high as i did. i just like it a lot. they were able to include a lot of weird twitter suggestions fairly seamlessly, and it’s just soft and pretty. spooky, but still pretty.
20. 21st blitheday
i admit it: i fucking hate the voice brian uses in this. but i really, really like the song. the beat’s very good and somehow brian still manages to sing the chorus well and make it sound nice even though his affectation is Stupid as hell <3 the background whistling is nice and his robot voice, which he’s used for several of his videos but i think most notoriously for scrundler in his week in revue series (here), is also featured. it’s a real bop, i think.
19. monday night boomball
i genuinely think this is their weirdest song, ever. it’s incomprehensible and it’s so fucking theatre kid of them, and it’s dumb as shit but it’s really funny and enjoyable and strange and i love it.
18. gentle light
this is a really good song. it’s not weird or funny, it’s genuinely just a really soft, calming, normal song. i can’t in good conscience rank it above the others for this reason, because it’s easier to make a regular song good than it is for a song about fucking a tree, but i want to be clear: i really love this song. it’s a song that you could fall asleep to, cry to, cuddle up in a blanket to, whatever the hell you want to do to it.
17. proud egg mouth
extra points for fitting the word “maw” in any kind of song, a feat i’m not sure anyone else has ever accomplished. also for brian actually singing with an egg in his mouth.
16. you can take that to the bank
brian does an incredible randy newman impression and i love him for it. also it’s just a good song! it’s not my favorite but it’s very pleasing to my ears and it’s well made.
15. rainbow trout eggs
i listened to a shit ton of colbie caillat in middle school and i can tell you with confidence that the lyrics “i feel so alive and i know that i’m happy na na na na na hey hey” would be in one of her songs. it’s a good song with completely ridiculous lyrics and it’s a better character/full story ballad than their previous ones, in my opinion. which is what you’re specifically here for!
14. car mitzvah
i think this is a song my dad would listen to if it came on the radio. i also think it deserves to be in an early 90s or maybe coming of age movie. brian’s vocals are fantastic in this, also.
13. dr. brims
“it’s a new year, Ha Hah!” this song is sooooo fucking funny and exemplary of a lot of their other songs that came afterwards. i’ve been saying that a lot i think. writing reviews is hard.
12. let’s make a music (theme song)
maybe it’s the emotional value of this song being the song i associate most with the podcast, since it’s the theme song, or maybe it’s just really good. (spoiler: it’s both but mostly the second one) the episode is also really funny in general and if you’re new to the podcast and don’t care about order, i highly recommend this one first!
11. heartbreak in michael’s
a very very very good sad gay love song and i recommend it to the ends of the earth! because this is the internet, and i can!
10. arbor day!
you try making a horny song about deforestation.
9. why don’t you like our song title?
such a fucking bop and showcases their skill for just doing whatever the hell they want and STILL making a fantastic song or video or whatever. they just stop saying words in it and it does not take anything away from the song. could you do that? i mean...maybe! but for the sake of this review and my point i’m gonna be like fuck you no you couldn’t. moving on.
8. akimbo
the backing track in this is ABSOLUTELY what makes the song. plus that one video of brian strutting but technically that can’t affect my review of the song because Technically it’s not part of the song. anyways it’s really peppy and fun and enjoyable and Good.
7. heartbreak in michael’s (reprise)
it’s the perfect finale song. like, it genuinely sounds like the song that plays at the end of a romcom after everything’s finally worked out. i Did cry when i heard brian sing the theme song at the end but that’s just because i’m a sentimental son of a bitch. so besides that ending bit that i can(’t) guarantee will make you tear up at Least, it’s really fucking fun! it’s upbeat and happy and i think they made the right song to go out on. or to go on a hiatus on, if brian’s website is to be believed. i don’t believe it, but hypothetically, y’know? hypothetically...
6. debutaunt ball
if the met gala doesn’t make this their theme song i will personally burn next year’s event to the ground, i swear to god. also it’s a good song to show off both jonah and brian’s range. it’s not like a lot of their other songs but it’s SUCH a banger and i adore it.
5. madame zamporium’s wax emporium
fuck yeah. learning that the “ooh come on baby” from several unraveleds came from a let’s make a music is the reason i finally started listening to the podcast in the first place. but BESIDES that, since that’s not a reason for my ranking (just a fun little fact about me!), this song slaps a ridiculous amount. they went insanely hard and it’s the first song they made that really sets the tone of the podcast, which is: great comedy, great high production music.
4. alan rickman’s edible zoo
GOD! the anti-celebrity, anti-capitalist rock song i’ve been waiting all my fucking life for! also it’s anti-america but only in one lyric. but in Another sense....throughout the whole song. PLUS, and most importantly, it features jonah’s literally and i mean LITERALLY impeccable alan rickman impression. like, it’s fucking bulletproof. alan rickman was in the goddamn room.
3. horsecar!
look. when this song started playing for the first time i went...fuck no. in general i don’t tolerate country or cowboy songs very well because they just don’t sound appealing to my ears most of the time. i put up with country road only because of a funny mario edit someone made of it and now the original song has more value to me. this is relevant only because the same thing happened with horsecar! in that the chorus KICKS ASS. i may make a post on just my favorite lmam songs and also this is already a crazy long post so i won’t go into it too much but i will say this. the shock value of going from the first verse in this song to the chorus is...........Incredibly high and it Works So Fucking Well! it literally makes the song. and not even just for the short term value of Oh My God That’s A Twist, it lasts through the whole song. i’m listening to the song as i type this and i’m currently at the country/cowboy part and i don’t hate it because i know the chorus is incredible. in fact, i’d argue that the chorus on its own may be the best thing lmam ever made, even better than my two actual favorite songs of theirs. i’m definitely going to have to make a full post on this. (SIDE NOTE: BRIAN’S VOCALS ARE FUCKING CRAZY AND HORSECAR! IS ONE OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF THIS. his goddamn RANGE!! SIR!!! his falsetto is literally ridiculous my pants are OFF)
2. dragon me to this wedding
this is what i meant when i said there’s an exception to the “i’m not generally a fan of full story ballads”, because this is one of my all time favorite lmam songs. as in, it’s in the top three. which i guess you can tell from it being number two in the top three. in fact, it’s probably one of my favorite songs in general. the first time i listened to the episode i went back and listened to the song again three times in a row, and all three times i cried real tears. it’s GAY it’s REALLY PRETTY and i LOVE IT.
1. save 2 4 tony
so we’ve finally made it to my all-time favorite lmam song. maybe it’s that i recently graduated myself and so this song hits a little harder, but it also just GOES hard. i genuinely think they peaked when they recorded this. it’s one of those bdg songs where you’re listening to it, you’re just chilling, and it’s like “yeah wow this is nice!” and all of a sudden he hits a falsetto and you go “oh FUCK that guy can SING!” literally his vocals in this are incredible and it’s very fun (and on brand) that the Oh Fuck moment here is the line “tony hawk babeyyy!” plus jonah killed it on the backing and composition and everything. it’s the best let’s make a music song and i won’t take constructive criticism.

survey by pandaphant
Who's your favorite comedian? Sindhu Vee, probably. But that’s only counting the fact that I’ve only seen two of her skits. Out of all the acts I’ve seen, she’s the one who’s made me laugh the loudest so far, though.
Aren't you sick of all the *Are We Alike?* surveys? I’m not sick of them. I just think they’re too easy and fast to take so I like elaborating my answers so that I can still get a little ~reflective~ while taking that kind of survey.
Do you think there's anything you did better, when you were younger? Physical activities. I had a better stamina for jump roping and running when I was younger, and I was also a lot more flexible; I used to be able to bend all the way backwards and also have my toes reach my head while on my stomach.
Would you take the advice you give others? I usually don’t. I find that I’m better at giving advice than actually following through with them.
What did you have for lunch yesterday? I just had my leftover sushi. I didn’t want to eat all 24 that I ordered from the other night in one go, so I saved a little more than half of it for yesterday.
What's one thing that you would change about yourself physically? I’d go for the obvious and have my front teeth straightened, so I can finally stop feeling conscious about it.
What song has made you cry? Life Goes On by BTS.
How would you define success? Accomplishment of something for which I could be proud of myself.
Who was the craziest teacher you've ever had? Ironically, it was my Christianity teacher in grade school. Crazy old man who flipped out and humiliated students who didn’t bring their own box of crayons to school, and he also made me feel sexually violated when I encountered him shortly after my high school graduation.
Do you think the Earth will face an apocalypse one day? I don’t think so.
What's the last thing you got paid to do? Work.
What's the one thing you could eat everyday? Sushi.
What do you hate about yourself? How frugal I can be, especially towards myself. Buy yourself nice things sometimes, @robyn hahahaha
What's your favorite alcoholic drink? Long Island Iced Tea. Or tequila.
Are you hyper today? No, but I was yesterday for Bang Bang Con haha. It was my first BTS event as a new fan and I had so much fun :(
Does Bzoink need an upgrade? I don’t mind what it looks like now. I don’t think they ever changed it ever since I first started visiting the site in 2009 anyway, and I’ve already gotten used to the layout. It’s easy enough to navigate.
Do you have a Millsberry account? No. I’m not sure I even know what that is.
Do you have a Neopets account? I didn’t, but I had an offline Neopets game on one of my old phones that I liked to play as a kid.
What's your life philosophy? I don’t really follow a specific one and let it serve as a guide all my actions. I just do whatever I think is right and what would help both me and the people around me.
What was the last thing you talked to your friends about? Angela and I were just talking about BTS lol. She was the one who reeled me in :((
If you are interested in going out with someone, what do you do? I simply like staying physically close to them and doing nice things for them. I’m not very expressive when it comes to this; I just let my actions speak for themselves.
Do you ever go to the beach? Yeah, of course. I love the beach. I’ve been aching for a trip for well over a year.
Would you rather have a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate? Coffee.
How's your hair looking right now? I washed it last night, so it looks okay.
What's something your mother always says? Well these days, she always reminds us to spray alcohol and disinfectant spray every time a delivery for someone in the family arrives. Which is an understandable thing to nag us about.
What's something your dad always says? He doesn’t really have a catchphrase, though these days he does like sharing about the funny or educational videos he’s been seeing on TikTok.
What's your favorite thing to wear? Tank tops or airy oversized shirts.
Have you ever had a near-death experience? Nope.
What do you order at Starbucks? Grande iced caramel macchiato + whatever pastry they have that I happen to be in the mood for.
What kind of exercise do you enjoy? Taking a walk with my dogs.
What's the worst injury you've ever had, and what was it from? The infection/wound I got from when I went snorkeling without flippers and ended up grazing my left foot against coral reefs one too many times.
Do you still have any of your childhood toys? If so, what? Nope, my mom threw them all out as I grew up and when we moved in to our current house.
Did you have a Precious Moments colouring book? No, I’m also not sure what that is.
Don't you miss being 13? No, puberty wasn’t exactly a fun time as there was a lot of emotional turmoil happening.
How'd you react to receiving your very first pimple? I didn’t keep a journal entry or anything from that day but I would imagine I was surprised and horrified.
Are you spoiled? Only when it’s deserved. My parents have stopped buying things for me since I now earn for myself, but back when I was younger I will say I was the most pampered out of us siblings. That said, I still made sure I worked hard for whatever it is I was asking from them, like promising them straight As for a quarter or semester in class.
What's your favorite day of the week? Friday.
What room of your house do you spend the most time in? My own. I’m back to working there again since I’ve started to find the dining room noisy.
Do you believe in the death penalty? Only for extreme offenses.
Do you have MSN, Yahoo, or Skype? I don’t have accounts on any of these.
What is your biggest turn-on? Continued from...sometime last weekend? I think? Thighs or fingers.
If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be? I’d rather be in a not-stuck-in-a-pandemic world altogether, to be honest.
Do you ever have any problems just *moving on*? At first, because I hate change and try to resist it as much as I can. Assessing myself in the last few months though, it looks like I’m much better at moving on with my life as I thought.
Do you collect anything? I collect BTS merch now...my collection is gradually getting bigger hahaha. I currently have all 7 of their Cold Brew Lattes, then I recently placed an order for their most recent album. Once I finish all the coffee I’ll move on to the Hot Brew ones, then I plan to buy 1-2 albums per month until I complete my collection, then move on to the DVDs, magazines, and other novelty merch. ZERO REGRETS
If you saw a shooting star, what would you wish on it? Sustained happiness.
Do you like rollercoasters? I’ve never ridden one and I don’t plan to.
What's the most romantic thing you've ever done for someone else? Get them a customized locket/necklace. Either that or make a video compiling greetings and photos with friends when I had no clue how to edit videos and had to learn from scratch.
How do you celebrate Halloween? I don’t strictly observe it, but when I do it’s usually because someone else organizes a party for it. Last year my company had a Halloween party, then the year before that Rita’s sister invited us to their college party, etc.
Who is your favorite villain? Gus Fring from Breaking Bad.
Do you have a favorite coloring book artist? I have a couple of Steve McDonald coloring books; I like his works because they’re gigantic and yet super detailed. Keeps me occupied (if I ever do color) :)
How many pairs of shoes do you own? Idk, I think around 10 would be a safe guess.
Have you ever wanted to model? I did, back in middle school. That was when VSFS was still a thing and I had wanted to be like those girls lol.
When you want to unwind, how do you relax? Light up a scented candle, take surveys, and, lately, watch whatever BTS content I feel like consuming hehe.
How do you react when someone you know's having a freak out? Try to calm them down as best as I can and make sure they aren’t hurting themselves.
Have you ever seen someone have a seizure? No.
Do you have a phobia? Cockroaches and any sharp points.
Who is your hero? I don’t have one.
If you were to commit a crime, what would it be? No thanks.
Have you ever used drugs? Nothing beyond caffeine, nicotine, pills I take for headaches.
How would you define what you want out of life? Self-satisfaction, I guess.
What's your favorite car? A Mini Countryman.

Rosebud prep 13
Today was a momentous occasion. A morning where the heat didn’t suffocate Menagerie, nor did the sea breeze give chills to the civilization. No, everything was just right. Jaune and Ruby had frequented the beautiful island multiple times for several months now since the start of their “second honeymoon.” Jaune was positive that they should’ve called it a world tour since no regular honeymoon lasts months, and it was filled with too much danger to call it a vacation. Not that he minds the danger in the slightest. Their love bloomed on the battlefield in the first place. Though it was nice to have a break from it; even if this journey had gotten him back in fighting shape.
Jaune sat on the sand watching the sunrise; the waves coming up a few inches short of his outstretched left leg while the right one remained bent. Practically chest level. His arms propped his body up from behind and to his right stood Ruby who was also enjoying the sunshine. However, it was clear by the expression in her face that her mind was elsewhere. Jaune didn’t need to think hard about why.
Jaune:Any day now.
Ruby:Yep. With the way Yang looks, one good scare could put her into labor.
Jaune:This places loves festivals. I’m sure I could find a firecracker to speed things along.
Ruby:She’d kill you.
Jaune:I can outrun a pregnant woman.
Ruby:Pffft heheheh, that shouldn’t be funny.
Jaune:There’s that giggle I love so much. Been a minute since I heard you laugh. Worried?
Ruby:Aren’t you?
Jaune:Not as much as Blake or Yang might be. I’m trying to remain calm. A bunch of worried people are only going to make things more tense, and child birth is tense enough as it is.
Ruby:Don’t have to tell me. But still, what….what if something unexpected happens?
Jaune:Cinder?
Ruby:Anyone. Blake has her fair share of enemies, so does Yang, and suppose it is Cinder. We’ve come up with all these contingency plans but who knows just how strong she’s gotten? This island-
Jaune:Has been heavily monitoring every ship that comes in and out of this place since Yang got pregnant. You personally have canvas the entire place at least twice. Working with the cops, Blake’s parents, even the medical staff; you’ve been extremely thorough.
Ruby:Okay but that doesn’t mean we’re in the clear. Medical complications, they almost happened to me so they might happen to Yang. She might go into shock or there could be something wrong with the baby no one expected.
Jaune:The doctor has said she’s perfect healthy and so is the baby.
Ruby:But-
Her counter argument was cut off by Jaune standing up and cupping her face gently. He looked at her with a twinge of concern but also with confidence clearly in his eyes as well. Ruby couldn’t help but feel her face get a little warm.
Jaune:Remember when I use to be a bundle of nerves?
Ruby:You still are but continue.
Jaune:You and everyone else constantly had to remind me to take a breath and tell me I could handle things. Ruby, you got this; everything is under control that can be controlled.
Ruby:....And for things that can’t be?
Jaune:Trust in life, trust in love.
Trust, was it that simple? Was that what was missing? Ruby closed her eyes and began taking slow, deep breaths. The sound of the waves gently falling onto the shore and back to the sea filled her eardrums. ‘When did he become the believer, the one to hold onto fa-’ suddenly things started to click just a little bit more. The possible reason for her eyes being so dim and the ability to truly find her stride in everything she did. ‘When...did I lose faith in hoping for the best? Miracles, I still believe in those. Right?’
Ruby opened her eyes. She was calmer now but also more perplexed by her own thoughts.
Jaune:Uh oh, didn’t work?
Ruby:It did but….Jaune do you believe in miracles? Or just having good faith in everything still?
Jaune:I mean, yeah. It’s been rough but I’d like to believe I still do. There’s actually more good in the world than there’s ever been for awhile now. Why, you don’t?
Ruby:That’s the thing, I-
“Ruby!!! Jaune!!!” The two looked over to see Weiss running over to them with her arms in the air. Before they could meet her half way she had already ran all the way to them at a speed that even Ruby found staggering. Weiss hunched over slightly winded and red faced. Sprinting in heels on the sand was not the best move.
Weiss:There huff you two huff are…
Ruby:Woah Weiss, hehe where’s the fire?
Weiss:Your sister…..
Ruby:I-I’m sorry what?
Weiss:She’s in labor!
Ruby:WHAT!!!!?
xxxx
“AAAAAGGGHH!”
Bellowing screams of shear pain thundered out of Yang’s lungs. She been like this for at least twenty minutes. Blake stood by her side with an odd mixture of joy and anxiety. The crushing grip of Yang’s hand squeezing with more force every time she was told to push. Blake grabbed the side of the hospital bed until her knuckles were white; suppressing the urge to scream from her own pain. ‘At this rate, I’ll need medical attention myself’’
“You’re doing great sweetie!” Blake said as she smiled through the pain.
Yang wasn’t easily fooled. “I know I’m hurting you. Blake, just let go.”
“No way! I’m never leaving you. Her other hand came up and grabbed the other side of Yang’s. They both give each other a nod before the doctor tells Yang to give another push; unleashing yet another powerful scream that could be heard by everyone guarding the hall. That includes her friends and family. Ruby especially, she can’t help but flinch every time.
“AAAAAHHHHHGGGGHHH!!!”
Ruby:Ugh. Sort of glad that’s not me this time. And yet…..
“AAAAAAHHHGGG!”
Ruby:I don’t like being on this side either.
Ren:You sure you don’t wanna be in there with her?
Nora:I bet Yang would love all the emotional support she can grip. Also another thing to squeeze.
Ruby:Blake is more than enough for that; guarding takes priority. Also that metal arm shouldn’t be squeezing anything but the bed frame.
Nora:Pretty sure that broke minutes ago. Besides, I have a feeling no one uninvited is showing up.
She had a good point. The hallway and entrances leading to it had guards posted that were ordered to report in to Kali without fail. Jaune was outside the front entrance with Ghira, Weiss and Neptune were on the roof, and Sun covered the other entrances with his clones and Ilia. Not to mention Tai was a phone call away, ready to jump through a portal with Qrow and Raven for surprise reinforcements. Only a crazy person would dare attempt to stir trouble. Everyone had a cutthroat mentality right now that was impressive and horrifying at the same time; the mark of an experienced huntsman for sure.
Ruby chewed on the bottom of her lip. Of course she wanted to support Yang, but no way was she going to be caught off guard. Not again….
Ruby:You might be right, but I can’t take chances. A kid's future can be at stake.
Nora:.....
Nora:Speaking of kids and futures, what’s that looking like for you? One year of searching and almost another getting back on your feet. I know that’s basically no time at all but you cannot tell me helping Yang with her’s isn’t making you think about it? For better or for worse.
Ren:Nora-
Ruby:It’s fine. She’s not entirely wrong. I have been thinking about it more and more. These past nine months especially. I’m...going to be honest with you two, my choice to stand out here isn’t completely selfless. That baby, I don’t know how I’ll react when I see it. When Yang and Blake ask me if I want to hold it.
She stares at her hands silently before rubbing her eyes; chuckling a little through restrained whimpering. “Selfish, right?”
……..
Nora:Do you wanna know a secret? I’ve actually been thinking a bit about all this. Ren as well. Can’t say much about his motivation but when it comes down to it, I’m being a bit selfish too.
Ruby looked up at Nora to see the girl looking down at her own feet. Nora takes a slow breath before looking into Ruby’s eyes.
Ruby:What?
Nora:We weren’t there for you. I wasn’t there for you. Maybe things could’ve been different if-
Ruby:Stop….
Nora:....
Ruby:That rabbit hole way of thinking only gets worse. Don’t put blame on yourself when you haven’t done anything wrong.
Ren:Yeah but we haven’t done anything right either. We’ve done nothing at all Ruby. That’s the problem. I feel just as guilty as she does. You’re our friend, our family. Jaune is our leader and both of you didn’t deserve what happened to you. So we found a way to help when the time comes.
Nora:Our orphanage has brought some unique problems to our doorsteps considering we don’t age out our kids or find parents put into “interesting” situations.
Ruby:Interesting?
Nora:Teens that got a bit too close despite our rules and soon to be parents that lost their towns. Ren is a bit squeamish about those sort of things but it’s gotten to the point he’s ordered plenty of medical supplies for those situations and made special rooms for them. While I have been put in the uncomfortable situation of playing doctor; in the literal sense. I’ve delivered several children and one of the parents actually was in the medical field.
Ruby:*eyes widened* Ar-Are you saying…?
Nora:When you decide to try again we’ll be around for the whole process if you’d like.
Ren:All of it. Delivery included. No immediate birth certificate, fancy hospital, or unneeded people around. Just the people who are closest in a place not so easy to find.
Nora:Completely under the radar to help prevent danger.
Ruby:....You’d do all that for me?
The two looked at Ruby confused before looking at each other and back at her again.
Ren:Of course….
Nora:We love you silly.
Ruby:G-Guys….I don’t know what to s-
“Everyone…” said Blake unexpectedly from down the hall. The three of them turned to see her on the phone; most likely calling the others. She looked exhausted and one of her hands was bright red and purple. No doubt that it had been from Yang and from the looks of it, at least fractured. Yet despite all that, Blake was smiling. Then it hit Ruby, the yelling had stopped at last.
The three looked almost hypnotized as they were hoping Blake’s next words were they have been waiting to hear. She didn’t disappoint.
“Come meet our son.”
Nora took Ruby and Ren’s hand then ran towards the entrance. Just as she approached it, Nora let go of Ruby and stood to the side with Ren.
Nora:Well?
Ruby:Well what?
Ren:I mean it’s only fair you walk in first.
Blake:He’s right you know? I can tell Yang is dying to show you.
Ruby:Could you all at least…follow a few seconds behind me?
Nora:Duh, you think I’m not antsy to meet the little guy?
Nora flashed a smile that warmed Ruby’s heart. She’s always been a bit motherly for sure, but running the orphanage has strengthened those maternal instincts; she became a mother right under everyone’s nose and Ren, an amazing father for sure. Where did the time go?
Ruby finally gave a nod and opened the door. Today was a momentous occasion. The morning, perfect. The sun, absolutely radiant. Yet none of them compared to this one single moment. Room was warm and quiet, except for the rhythmic sound of medical machinery at work. Ruby stood motionless and without breathing the instant her eyes locked onto the bed in the center of the room.
Yang sat upright completely mesmerized by the tiny life that was swaddled in her arms. Her skin was a bit pale; a thin sheen of sweat on her face made it look like she was glowing. Yang’s long and full hair also was weighed down and fell flat from exhaustion, and yet it looked beautiful as strands ran across her face. It even seemed to glow faintly itself. Yang ran her pointer finger gently around what Ruby assumed to be the baby’s face.
Her presence finally became noticed when Ruby let out slightly “wow” that snapped Yang out of the trance. Their eyes met and Ruby saw nothing but joy and a boundless fiery passion in them. “Hey baby sis. Come meet your nephew Kovu. Yang gave her the most inviting smile that Ruby had ever seen.
She approached slowly. As if she was trying to sneak up on Zwei or Weiss. Inch by inch Ruby got closer until she stood beside Yang. The blonde tilted her arms to Ruby so she could get a better look at him. It was love at first sight. His was rosy and his eyes were closed. Messy short black covered his head with the roots being blonde. That alone was enough to melt anyone’s heart but then there was his tiny cat ears that still managed to look too big for him. Despite having black hair, Kovu’s ears were blonde.
“Calico?” Ruby wondered out loud. Yang shook her head at the question however. “No, looks a bit like one though. Personally I thought about Tortoiseshell cats but the little kiddo is just a panther with beautiful color coordination.
Without thinking, Ruby reached out and gently poked his button nose. Kovu’s face scrunched up and a tiny coo was let out. His opens and Ruby was hit with the sight of majestic mixture between gold and amber. Yang was right about color coordination. Kovu had hit the genetic jackpot; he was such a handsome baby. The boy was going to have to keep the girls off of him with a stick when he’s older.
Ruby pulled down the blanket he was bundled up in a little and his right hand wiggled out. Ruby went to gently hold the little guys hand when he unexpectedly reached for it. His hand grasping her finger with all the might he could muster. It was so innocent, simple even. Yet...it sent Ruby crumbling down.
Yang:R-Ruby? Your eyes.
Ruby:Huh?
Yang:You’re crying.
Ruby ran her hand across her face and sure enough she felt warm tears smear across her face. How long has this been happening. They weren’t stopping either. She backed away from the both of. “Excuse me.” Yang completely understood why but she couldn’t help but feel a little sad.
As she opened the door, Ruby had forgotten that Blake called everyone to come and see Kovu. Including Jaune. He was in the middle of healing Blake’s hand when Ruby caught his attention; shocked to see her walking out in tears. She hated it. She didn’t want people to see her like this and burst into roses towards the outside. Immediately he looked at everyone who had a “Go” expression on their face. He got the message and bolted.
Luck for him, Ruby didn’t go far. Just outside to the steps in front of the door. No doubt because she still prioritized the safety of the hospital above anything else at the moment. She heard the familiar footsteps but did not turn around.
Jaune:Ruby, please talk to-
Ruby:He’s perfect. Their kid is perfect in every way. A little bit of Blake, a smidge of Yang; truly perfect. And innocent. All he did was grab my finger yet I could feel like I was making a connection that would last a lifetime. I haven’t felt like that since……
Jaune:Dustin…?
Ruby:I said we’d take it slow. That there’s no no need to rush. Picking up the pieces of our lives would come first and it’s been amazing to simply be with you again. But I think …I know there’s a hole in my heart. One that desperately wants to get back what I lost. Especially after seeing the way Yang and Blake looked today.
She turned around to face Jaune. Her entire body was silhouetted by the sun but he could clearly see the tears that glimmered from the light; and the silver eyes that finally found a way to crack through some of the darkness that clouded them.
Ruby:I want to be a mom. To hold a child and make that same promise to them. I know it’s selfish b-
Jaune:Ruby, I’ve been wanting another chance at fatherhood for months now.
Ruby:What?
Jaune:Is that surprising? Having kids with you was my dream in the first place. I never brought it up though because I didn’t want to be the reason you got hurt again or put pressure on the topic. Being with you was enough for me too.
He got closer and took both of her hands into his. Interlocking their fingers and pressing his forehead against hers.
Jaune:We take each step together when ready, right? Don’t hold your feelings back against me. If you’re ready to take that leap of faith again then you have me right beside you.
Ruby:We should have a serious talk about sparing each other’s feelings. We’re going to give each other unnecessary anxiety otherwise.
Jaune:Hehe, that’s not good.
Ruby:Being calm for nine months sounds like an impossible task.
Jaune:Don’t worry, you’ll have tons of sweatpants to get you through it.
Ruby:Oh gods I forgot about those things. I can feel my figure fading away.
Jaune:Having second thoughts?
Ruby:No way.
Ruby stands on her toes and gives Jaune a warm kiss. Finally his hands separate from Ruby’s so he can wipe her tears away. The two walk back inside to let the others know they’re okay and celebrate the birth of the newest addition to the team. There would be plenty of time to be affectionate later.
For the rest of their vacation time, sleeping wasn’t really on the schedule. Just a fire inside of them that burned like never before. Until…

Finally got this one done! it’s pretty long, but it’s got a bit of backstory. This will be an ongoing series on how all their friends find out Lucy and Tim are together, starting with Jackson. I feel if they keep it a secret at first, the roommate will definitely be the first to find out. Be on the lookout for the next one. I think I’m going to do Angela or Grey next. Or I’d love to hear from you guys on who you want next!

Jackson trudged up the steps slowly, sighing with every other lift of his feet. Of course the elevator was broken. Everything else had gone wrong that day. He was supposed to be spending the whole weekend with Sterling, both of them finally having matching days off at the same time, but five hours in, they’d gotten in an argument over something as trivial as answering the door when the delivery driver brought their take out. Sadly, it had put an end to their romantic weekend rather quickly.
As quietly as he could, he unlocked the door and slowly pushed it open, not wanting to wake Lucy. It was well after midnight, and he didn’t want to disturb her. He would talk to her in the morning after he had coffee, then lean on his friend’s shoulder for support. Slipping off his shoes to make less noise, a sound pulled Jackson’s focus across the room. The late hour was what made him so surprised to hear laughter coming from behind Lucy’s closed door. He checked his watch again and sure enough, the face read 12:37 AM. He heard her mumbling after that, and when he didn’t hear another voice, he assumed she was on the phone. It wouldn’t be the first time she’d talked on the phone well into the night to an old friend she’d ran into that day. Lucy was friendly and caring in that way. Even if she hadn’t seen you in years, if you were important to her at one point, you still had a place in her heart.
Jackson still decided he’d wait to talk to her in the morning. He didn’t want to interrupt her with his drama when it sounded like she was so happy. That had been in short supply for a time after her abduction. She deserved it where she could get it. With tired bones after a long shift and a fading mind after a long argument, Jackson walked into his room, closed the door quietly and collapsed on his bed without even bothering to change. Sleep wasn’t hard to come by that night.
-
“I still can’t believe you of all people did that.” Lucy laughed again as Tim recounted a story from high school, where they had pranked their principal. “You’re such a stickler.”
“I wasn’t always,” Tim replied quietly, his head jostling from its position in her lap every time she laughed. “We had the skills and the means to do it, and we were bored.”
“But taking apart his motorcycle and reassembling it on the roof? That’s more than boredom. And you call me trouble,” Lucy chuckled, absentmindedly running her fingers through his cropped hair. It was beginning to get longer on the sides than he normally allowed. “You need a haircut soon.”
“That’s because you are trouble. Big trouble. And I’m getting it cut on Monday before shift.” Tim reached up and pulled her hand from his scalp, intertwining their fingers and kissing the back of her hand. “Keep doing that and you’re going to put me to sleep.”
Lucy sighed. The domesticity of the situation made her stomach flutter. It had only been six months ago that they had been riding together for her last shift as a rookie together. They had ridden together off and on since then, as the TOs were waiting for another batch of rookies to come out of the academy, which was closing in faster than either of them would like. Tim was also waiting for another sergeant’s position to open up. She couldn’t believe it when he’d passed up his for sure opportunity to finish her training. She could now.
How had they gotten to this point? She could sort of pinpoint when her feelings had fully started to develop for Tim. Things had slightly changed when he had been in danger of having hemorrhagic fever, but they had fully shifted after her abduction by Caleb. Everyone else had tried to get her to forget it, but he’d been a friend during the entire healing process, pushing her to, not get past it, make peace with it. Things had slowly taken a turn between them after that. It hadn’t become fully romantic until two months after she’d graduated to PO II.
They’d all been hanging out at the bar after shift, celebrating a big drug bust earlier in the day. Tim and Lucy had volunteered to go get their second round of drinks. While they were waiting for their drinks, Lucy decided to make small talk.
“How are things with Rachel?” Lucy asked, smiling over at him. “It’s been so crazy, any time I talk to her; our conversations are usually pretty short.”
Tim had been about to open his mouth to say something when Angela walked up. “Rachel? Are you guys back together?” She asked, signaling the bartender for something. Tim’s face immediately dropped.
“Back together?” Lucy asked, having a hard time believing what she was hearing. Surely, Tim would have told her.
“Yeah. You know they broke up like what? Five months ago?” She asked, looking to Tim for confirmation. The way her face dropped told Lucy what she needed to know. Lopez stepped away from the bar, walking backwards toward their table. “I’ll get food later.”
“Well?” Lucy huffed, looking to Tim to deny it. When he looked back at her almost like a puppy that had been kicked, a look she never thought she’d see on Tim Bradford, a feeling of anger boiled up in her. “I gotta go.” Walking over to their table swiftly, she grabbed her bag, lamely claiming that her stomach hurt and she would see them the next day.
Why didn’t he tell me? Did he think I couldn’t handle it? Her mind was racing. Anger, frustration, and betrayal coursed through her veins, and it was frightening how out of control she felt with her emotions. What was even more frightening to her was the tiny voice in the back of her head that she had felt joy at the news. After everything they had been through together, she’d done everything she could to tamp down her feelings in favor of her friend. She wasn’t the kind of person to wreck a home when she’d been cheated on herself. Then to find out they hadn’t been together for five months? Those feelings started to bubble to the surface, mixing with the anger.
The sound of her engine sputtering pulled her out of her thoughts, only adding to her frustration. “Are you fucking kidding me?” Her car had enough momentum to pull it over to the side of the road. “Damn it!” She hit the steering wheel before flinging her door open and grabbing her bag. She was only a few blocks away from her apartment. She could walk the rest of the way, deal with her car tomorrow, and maybe get rid of some of her anger.
That plan was foiled when she heard the familiar roar of a truck as she got halfway down the block. Lucy couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Of course, he had to follow her and have the last word. He couldn’t let her fume in peace.
As soon as she heard the truck engine cut off and heard his door open, Lucy was ready to try and get rid of him. “I have nothing to stay to you until at least tomorrow.” When she whipped around, she expected him to be angry, but all she saw was him leaning against the front of his truck with his hands in his pockets, almost resigned. Lucy didn’t know what to do with a calm Tim; she had been expecting anything but that. “Did you think I’d be upset or something? That I couldn’t handle it? And don’t take this reaction into account. I’m angry at the fact that you didn’t tell me. I’ve talked about her since your break up that was apparently five months ago?”
Tim sighed, kicking off of his truck to walk up to her on the sidewalk. “You were already going through so much, Boot. I know that it’s a shit excuse, but at the time, when it was all fresh, it made sense in my mind.”
“Tim, you of all people should know that you don’t have to handle me with kid gloves! I could have handled it. I’m an adult, and I’m your friend,” Lucy said, starting to deflate a little bit. She started to think Tim knew her better than she did, and she just needed to air it all out. “You could have come to me to talk about it.”
Something flashed across his face, like he wanted to say something, before his old walls went back up, and Lucy was frustrated again. “Why? So you could psychoanalyze the situation?”
Lucy let out a breath, his word feeling like a hit to the gut. “No! So you didn’t have to go through it alone. You didn’t let me go through my shit alone. The least I could have done is repay that in kind, but you’re so damn stubborn, you can’t accept any help.” She turned to start walking back down the sidewalk. “Why couldn’t you have just told me?”
“You’re the one person I couldn’t talk to about it,” Tim muttered quietly, turning back to his truck.
Lucy was walking away but she didn’t miss what he said. Turning back, she stalked over to his truck, slamming the door as he opened it. “Why? Why couldn’t you talk to me?” She had to know why she was just now finding out the friendship she thought they had was one sided.
“Damn it, Lucy! I couldn’t talk to you about it, because I care about you! I care about you too damn much, way more than a TO should care about his rookie. That’s why Rachel and I broke up,” Tim said frustratingly, his voice lowering as he finished speaking. He leaned back against his truck door, looking up at the sky. “Because you were all I cared about.”
The words floored Lucy; her heart felt like it was going to beat out of her chest. She had had feelings stir for Tim long ago, pushing them down because it was the right thing to do for her friend and her career. He had been her direct superior at the time, and, while he was still her superior, her career was no longer in his hands. All the lingering stares, the check-ups, the encouragements, the smiles and laughter that she never saw around anyone else started to add up. Did he mean it in the same way she felt? There was only one way to find out.
Moving to stand in front of Tim, Lucy moved up onto her tiptoes, taking his face in her hands and pressing her lips to his. He didn’t even give her a second to doubt before his arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her in as close as he possibly could. They both poured all the pent up want, frustration, and feelings into the kiss. Lucy’s heart was soaring, and all the feelings of betrayal and confusion melted away.
Tim was the first to pull away but still kept his arms looped tightly around her waist. Resting his forehead against hers, he let out a shuddering breath. “What are we doing here, Boot?”
“I thought it was pretty obvious,” Lucy said quietly, pulling her face back slightly to look into his eyes. No matter how this went, this was the most sure she had been about anything. “I know it’s scary, and there’s a lot of unknown that goes with this. But I think this could be something worth exploring.”
“I’m your TO, Lucy. People wou—” Tim started.
“You were my TO. I’ve been on my own for two months. We don’t have to tell anyone until we need to. We don’t have to even put a label on it until we’re sure it’s something.”
Tim looked into her eyes and could see how sure she was. Lucy had turned into the woman and cop he knew she could be, and the determination in her eyes was something she had had from the beginning. In any other circumstance, if they had met any other way, Tim would have been a fool to turn her down. Even with their current situation, knowing that Lucy felt just as he did, it was hard to even think about doing that. It felt right having her in his arms. If he were being honest with himself, it felt more like home than any other relationship he’d had, including Isabelle.
“Get in the truck. I’ll give you a ride home. We can talk on the way,” Tim said. He was unable to help himself and gave her one more, small kiss before letting her slide back down flat footed to the pavement.
“Lucy?”
She shook her head slightly, looking back down at him. “You were a million miles away. What’s up?”
Lucy chuckled, leaning down to give him a quick kiss. “Just thinking about the night that this all happened.” She couldn’t stifle the yawn after that. “Maybe we should go to bed. We’ve got a long day of staying in and being a cutesy, secret couple indoors tomorrow.”
Tim couldn’t help but chuckle. He knew there would be a time when they could let people know that they were together, but he was enjoying their honeymoon phase in their own little bubble. He knew that the newness of their relationship gave it this glow of seeming perfection, a bubble that would have to be burst, but Tim couldn’t even remember his relationship with Isabelle being this good. They had little spats like any couple did, but there was something in Lucy that just brought out the best in him, that made him want to be better.
“Probably a good idea,” he said, sitting up and glancing at Lucy’s alarm clock. Standing off the bed, he grabbed his discarded shirt from their earlier activities, throwing it to her. As she pulled it over her head, he crawled in next to her, holding his arms open for her. “It’s past my bedtime anyway.”
“Do you need me to get you a glass of warm milk?” Lucy asked, laughing at her own joke. She snuggled up into his side, tangling their legs and resting her head on his chest.
“You’re gonna pay for that,” he replied half-heartedly. He could already feel himself drifting off. He barely felt Lucy reach across him to turn off her bedside lamp. “Night, Luce.”
“Goodnight, Tim,” she said with a kiss to his chest.
-
Tim had been awake for about twenty minutes. Of those twenty minutes, he had really needed to use the bathroom for about ten of them. The only thing stopping him was the content look on Lucy’s face as she slept. Even all these months after her kidnapping, Lucy had a nightmare every now and again. So, any night that didn’t end in her thrashing in terror was one he liked to savor. His fingers brushed through her hair softly, wanting to keep her lulled in her peaceful sleep as long as possible, but it was getting harder to ignore that he had to go. Forcing himself to get started on his day, though they really didn’t have much planned, Tim slowly extracted himself from Lucy’s arms. He counted it a victory when she didn’t stir.
After using the bathroom and washing his hands, Tim stepped back into the room quietly. He slipped his sweatpants over his legs before going into the main living area of the apartment to start making coffee for the two of them. As he listened to the coffeemaker come to life, Lucy’s words from the night before hung in his head. He remembered what happened after their first kiss. It hadn’t taken much convincing on her end that they should give this a try. He knew how she kissed; he couldn’t go back to not kissing her. It was the closest to home he had felt in a long time. Everything about her felt that way to him. He had made the point that while there were technically no rules against it, the fact that he had been her training officer would automatically put a black mark on their relationship to their fellow officers. She’d come right back, telling him that it was worth the risk. Having Lucy tell him about her relationship with Nolan not long after that, that he hadn’t been worth it but Tim was, made his heart soar, and he couldn’t deny the feelings that had been growing for months any longer.
Small arms encircled his waist from behind, and a smile broke out on Tim’s face. Starting every day with just him and Lucy, enjoying the morning, slowly waking up, just taking it all in, was something he could get used to, easily. “Good morning,” he heard her say, her voice quiet with sleep. Turning in her arms, he wrapped his around her in turn. “You weren’t there when I woke up.”
“Good morning. I was going to bring you coffee in bed,” he replied, leaning down to get a kiss, but she pulled away before their lips could meet. “What?”
“I have morning breath,” she said sheepishly, shrugging her shoulders.
Before she could say anything, Tim had his arms wrapped fully under her thighs, setting her down on the edge of the island in her kitchen, standing confidently between her thighs. “Lucy, I plan on being around you for a lot of mornings. I don’t care if you have morning breath. Because when you look like this,” he implied, looking her up and down, “wearing my shirt with your hair still slightly sexed, I’m going to want to kiss you.”
Before she could say any sort of come back, Tim swooped in, pulling her close and pressing his lips to hers. It was so easy to get lost in her. Even wearing his shirt, he could still smell what was distinctly her, and it was overpowering. Pulling away from her mouth, he trailed his lips down the side of her neck, peppering kisses along every inch of skin he could find there. When he got to that little, sensitive spot right below her ear, he had to pay attention to it as much as possible, the noises coming from her too intoxicating to make him quit.
Tim was going to drive her absolutely crazy. He wasn’t allowed to say things like that and then kiss her just to shut her up, but damn her if it wasn’t the most amazing feeling in the world. Lucy could easily get used to waking up to him in her bed every day. Maybe not even just her bed. It felt too early to be thinking like that, but the four months they had been together felt more like four years. Riding together for twelve hours at a time for eighteen month got you pretty close to someone but with how she was feeling, Lucy wasn’t going to complain.
Tim turned her neck to the side to get better access to her neck, lining her vision up with the door, as well as everything around it. It really wasn’t something she was focused on at first, Tim keeping her almost fully distracted. Almost. It was then that she noticed them, tucked neatly by the doorway. She knew they weren’t there the night before, and through the haze in her brain, it took her a few seconds to recognize them. Are those Jackson’s shoes?
Almost as soon as the thought popped into her brain, the door on the other side of the apartment opened. “Lucy why are you making coffee this ear—oh my god! My eyes!” Jackson’s voice carried across the apartment, and it was like dumping a bucket of ice water over her head. “Lucy what the… Bradford?”
“Jackson!” Lucy pushed Tim back just enough for her to hop off the counter. Her bare thighs tried to stick to the countertop, leaving them stinging slightly. “It’s not what it looks like!” She winced at her words, trying so hard to keep their bubble from bursting.
Jackson couldn’t look at them, his eyes half covered. “Really? Because it looks like you were making out with your former training officer,” he yelled, sparing her a glance only to groan and turn away completely. “For the love of everything, pull down your shirt. God, Lucy, we eat off that counter.”
Lucy barely had to glance down to see Tim’s shirt she was wearing had ridden up slightly to reveal she’d been wearing absolutely nothing. Yanking the hem of it down, Lucy could feel her face getting redder and redder. “Oh my god, I’m going to die. This is not how you were supposed to find out.” It finally hit Lucy that Jackson was home far earlier than she’d expected. “What are you even doing here? You weren’t supposed to come back until Sunday night.”
“Oh no! Don’t try to change the subject,” Jackson said, turning his head slightly to make sure it was safe to look. Once he saw they were both slightly out of their compromising positions, he turned and motioned his finger between the two of them. “How long has this been going on? Since you got kidnapped? Because that would explain a lot.”
Both Tim’s and Lucy’s eyebrows furrowed, wondering what that could possibly mean. Their relationship had been entirely platonic while she’d been his rookie. Sure, they had gotten close, but Lucy never thought anyone would read into it romantically. “What? No.”
“It just happened,” Tim said.
“Four months,” Lucy replied, speaking at the same time as Tim, knowing she wasn’t the best at lying. She looked up at Tim with a questioning look. “What?”
Tim shrugged. “I was trying to save you some grief, Boot.”
“That nickname is helping way less, at the moment,” Lucy sighed. She took in a deep breath, looking up at Jackson and taking a step forward. “Jackson, I’m sorry you had to find out this way. We just wanted to keep it between the two of us while we could. He didn’t want me to look bad, and I just wanted everyone out of our business for a while.” Her eyes widened as it fully hit her that someone else finally knew. “Jackson, you can’t tell anyone at work. Not a soul. Not Angela. Not John. Nobody!”
Jackson held his hands up in defense. “I won’t say anything. You have my word. Maybe I’ll wake up in my bed and this will all be a dream.”
Lucy looked up at Tim when he stepped closer to her, smiling lovingly. “Kinda feels that way sometimes.”
Jackson made a face, scrunching it and sticking out his tongue slightly. “Oh god. Now I have to deal with this corniness? You’re still in the lovey dovey phase.”
Moving her gaze back to him, Lucy gave him a small glare. “Don’t act like there weren’t nights I had to make myself scarce or spend most of my free time in my room because you and Sterling couldn’t quit making heart eyes at each other long enough to pay attention to much else. I think you’ll survive.” Another thought struck her, and Lucy couldn’t stop her face from lighting up. “Oh! We can do double dates! And it’s perfect because we both have to stay indoors since we can’t be seen together in public.”
Lucy could tell both the guys wanted to say no, but when she pouted ever so slightly, she knew they would have to give in and take her up on it.
“Sure,” Tim replied begrudgingly.
“Yeah. It could be…fun.”
Lucy chuckled. “It will be fun. I promise! Oh! I have the perfect idea for the first one.”
She went on and on for a few minutes, walking around the kitchen while she talked. She grabbed her coffee and started pulling ingredients from the fridge to make breakfast for all three of them. There was no denying the feeling of relief deep in her chest at the fact that someone else finally knew their secret. As much as she wanted their bubble to last as long as it could, it was still mostly intact. Jackson knowing only meant they didn’t have to sneak around in her apartment. If it meant a little less stress for her, she was honestly fine with it.
After breakfast had been eaten and cleaned up, Lucy announced she was going downstairs to get the mail.
Jackson turned to look at Tim from his spot on the couch. “Listen,” he said, almost as soon as the door had closed. It had been a thought nagging at the back of his head since he’d found out. “I care about Lucy a lot. You know as well as I do what she’s been through. I don’t want to see her get hurt. So, if this is some sort of Rachel rebound or a midlife crisis of some kind, cut the cord now. I can tell she’s already in deep, but she might be salvageable before it gets any farther.”
Tim sat up straighter in the chair sitting on the other side of the living area. He was honestly taken aback. Jackson had mentioned he thought they could have been together since her kidnapping. He had to know this wasn’t just a fling. “I have no intentions of doing any of that. Rachel and I broke up because of how I feel about Lucy. I’m not just in this for an ego boost or a good time. I’m in this for the long haul. Lucy means more to me than I can even describe. What we have,” Tim started, thinking back over, not just the last four months, but the last year and a half that they’d been riding together. “I think what we have could be the real deal. I didn’t even feel this strongly or passionately with my ex-wife. I look at her, and I see a bright, happy future that looked to be pretty bleak before she came into my life. Lucy… She’s just it.”
Jackson sighed in relief. He knew that everything Tim said was true; he’d just needed to hear it. “Good. Lucy deserves to be happy, and she looks pretty happy.” He leaned back in his seat, chuckling to himself. “Plus, I don’t know if I have enough of an intimidating presence to threaten you.”
“You don’t have to worry, West. I plan to stick around for as long as she’ll have me. Even then, I might be hard to get rid of.” Tim now knew what it was like to have Lucy in his life in a romantic capacity. He didn’t know if he could go to life without her. That thought didn’t scare him as much as he thought it would.
The door opened not long after, Lucy looking through the stack of mail as she walked on autopilot over to Tim, taking a seat in his lap. She heard Jackson groan, mumbling something about apologizing to Sterling. Saying he’d be back later, Jackson was out the door just a few minutes later. “Guess he’s still gotta get used to this.”
“He’s got time,” Tim mumbled, placing his lips to her neck as she continued to look through the mail. This was easily something he could get used to. “He gave me the big brother spiel. Told me I needed to cut the cord if I was going to break your heart.”
Lucy smiled, placing the mail on the coffee table before turning back to Tim, she took his face in her hand, smoothing her thumbs over his cheeks. It was so easy to get lost in his eyes sometimes, storm clouds and oceans swirling in them. She could see the love and admiration he held for her bubbling at the surface of them, and she couldn’t help but smile. “Are you gonna break my heart?” She asked, one of her thumbs brushing his lower lip lightly.
Tim’s head moved so minutely that if she hadn’t been so close to it, she might have missed it. “No ma’am,” he whispered as his hand came up to cup the back of her head, bringing her in for a kiss.
Lucy let him, brushing her lips lightly against his. “Good.”
