Jod help me I'm about to try something I'm allergic to to test if I'm allergic again
#its coconuts#ive decided to try mud wtr and i ordered their starter kit which comes with their creamer and sweetener#the creamer is made with coconut milk and the sweetener is made with coconut sugar#ive hated coconut since i was a kid bc it gives me a sort of cold burning sensation in my sinuses#and then i found out its not supposed to do that#the one time i actually ate a significant amount of coconut as a kid (instead of tasting it and instantly spitting it out)#was when there was a bottomless coconut shrimp basket deal going on at like red lobster or smth#and i love shrimp and couldnt really taste the coconut so i ate a shit ton#and then my throat and mouth got all itchy like my brothers whos allergic to tree nuts does when he eats pecans or walnuts#that was the last time i knowingly ate coconut#then like last year i started going to this boba tea place and getting jasmine tea with jelly boba a lot#and it made my throat itch too. but i had never really had jasmine tea before so i was like#'oh maybe its just bc the flower flavor is really strong? like kinda perfumey? im sure this is normal'#and it tasted good so i kept drinking it#a few months later i decided to google what jelly boba are made of bc i got curious#and i found out theyre made of coconut water 😭#so i switched to popping boba and stopped getting itchy#...and then a few months later i was like 'well maybe i just imagined it' and tried it again bc those jellies were GOOD#...and they did in fact still make my throat itchy. and then i realized i had just paid $7 for Potion of Mouth Hurty#........ANYWAYS im gonna try this coconut creamer and sugar when it comes in to see if it makes my throat itchy#anyone wanna put any money down on the result 😂#rambling#tbh this is probably better than my other plan which was tor try goji berries to see if im allergic to them#bc apparently goji berry can have cross-reactions with some of my other allergies#at least if the coconut stuff causes a reaction i know what that will be and the answer is throat itchy which is basically just annoying#i have no idea what the reaction to goji berry (if any) might be bc ive never had it before#plus if the creamer/sugar DOES make my throat itch i can just... stop using it and continue to drink the mud wtr without it#what would i do with an entire bottle of goji berry vitamins if i tried one and it gave me a reaction??

Alright, this is it! The last of the Our Skyy 2 x BBS x ATOTS Afterglow Cocktail Series. I noticed some friends in the tags last week saying that they weren’t drinkers, so this is for the mocktailers, and especially for Tian, who HAS to (HAS TO) be contraindicated for drinking with his HEART TRANSPLANT MEDS, my man. And we're also celebrating his genius move with the tea leaves sachets from the original ATOTS series. Anyway, sorry for the shitty photos, I’ll explain:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted to give a homemade spin to cha yen/Thai tea -- we see Pat/Pran and Heart/Li Ming drinking it in BBS and Moonlight Chicken. I used Pailin Chongchitnant's recipe (thank you to DEAR @telomeke for introducing me to Pailin's amazing recipes!) as a base. Pailin notes that real cha yen does NOT have spices -- that if spices are added, it's usually done by non-Thais as a means of adding an "exotic" spin to the tea, when it's just supposed to be tea, ice, condensed milk and evaporated milk.
But, ummmm, heh heh, I'm an Indian auntie who can't leave a recipe unadapted, so: I cold-brewed the Thai tea leaves overnight with boiled water and my own mix of spices (fennel, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, and star anise). I also sweetened the drink with spiced syrup made with Thai coconut sugar. Finally, I'm kind of off dairy (not really, but trying to), so I used coconut condensed and evaporated milk, which doesn't mix as well into the cha yen as real dairy or non-dairy creamer -- oh well.
ANYWAY, all of this to be said, this is Tian's Contraindicated Thai Chai, made by moi, an Indian-Malaysian auntie who's got FAR too many spices in the house and can't leave recipes damn well enough alone!
AND, as a bonus to myself, who DOES drink, I have a back-up option -- a to-go cocktail of guava and champagne that a bartender gave to me for free last night while I was on a date with the hubs! SCORE, BOB.
Tumblr media
I'm gonna drink all of these while finally watching the finale of Our Dining Table, just to fuck myself up more on this crazy-ass day of dramas. SALUT, Y'ALL, this was fun! Big ups to senpai @respectthepetty for starting this trend! <3

@shinyrapidash
ok so for milk tea i go a few different routes to achieve fancy flavors, either by using pre-flavored tea, flavored syrups or a combo of the two
so wedding cake for example, i have in the past mixed harney and sons wedding blend and royal wedding together (so combined the flavor profile is lemon, rose, vanilla and almond) and then sweetened the result with sugar or simple syrup. but you could achieve similar with just a plain tea base and flavored syrups as well.
harney is probably my go-to for teas because they’re super affordable for loose leaf and have a lot of variety both in flavored tea and different tea varieties. when i’m able to splurge i also love simple loose leaf, their coconut black tea makes the perfect milk tea base imo. it tastes nothing like coconut to me at least and more like flan/purin
monin is my favorite syrup brand and i have tried...a few. i am a freak and have at least 10 bottles of flavor syrup on hand at any given time but i know most people do not want to spend that much on beverage syrups let alone store them so if i had to trim the herd, my staples are rose, creme caramel and almond lmfao. torani is also good and i usually keep a bottle of their cheesecake or shortbread syrup on hand to give things a cakey or pastry flavor
if you’re going the flavored tea route, you can just make a simple syrup to sweeten it too. imo this is preferable to just dissolving sugar and tastes better/closer to a cafe drink. i think it’s something like 1:1 ratio of sugar and water brought to a boil
aaand my basic milk tea resippy for a 16oz drink
1 cup of water
4-5 teaspoons of looseleaf or 4-5 teabags of your tea of choice. basically you want a very strong tea base. never listen to the packages telling you to “brew longer” for stronger flavor they are all liars, always add more tea rather than increasing brew time
steep for 3 minutes (assuming it’s black tea) or respective brew time for other teas. if you’re using green or white teas, let the water cool after boiling for a minute or so before steeping to avoid bitterness
2-3 pumps of syrup or probably something like 2 tablespoons if you’re not using a pump
pour over ice
milk to taste (evaporated milk for dairy milk or oat milk for nondairy. the oat milk thing is just personal preference but i think it’s creamier than most other nondairy options)
my personal favorite flavor profiles for traditional boba are caramel-adjacent ones because i think it goes well with the brown/black sugar in boba but that is also just down to personal taste!
which has just reminded me that one of my fav base teas to use other than black tea is plain hojicha. it’s a green tea made from stems that has a toasty/almost black tea taste to it and is SO good just with a plain sweetener and milk
OH AND I JUST REALIZED I DID NOT even go into coffee yet. but. same general logic as above applies: strong coffee base, sweetener, ice and then a creamer. i generally use half and half rather than milk with coffee tho
my current fav brew method for iced coffee especially is pour over, it just makes for a stronger base imo. a few years ago i got a fancy coffee machine thing for my birthday and frankly the porcelain pour over i have out performs it lol. i think it’s this one? but i’m sure pretty mcuh any of them would function the same
also my favorite coffee hack is to always add a pinch of salt, it cuts the bitterness and enhances the overall flavor too. how many times can i say ‘flavor’ in one post. this thing is all over the place too i am so sorry i just have too much beverage knowledge stored in my brain and so trying to format it is difficult kshgjkshg

Tumblr media
January 2013
''Skye we're leaving in an hour. Please start getting ready'' I had already drifted off when my mother's voice outside the door ruined my sweet sleep. The clock next to my bed says 8 o clock. As it seems, no matter how much I tried to get away with tonight’s dinner my mother is not having it . I ignore her and just slump into my warm bed again.
''Skye I'm talking to you. Get up.'' this time she enters the room and agressively pulls the bedspread. Her voice never fails to get on my nerves.
''What happened?'' I rub my eyes pretending to be clueless
She grins humorlessly “You’re coming to the dinner whether you want it or not. I won’t tolerate your stubbornness again” her long thin arms are now crossed in front of her chest, the whole body posture appears quite aggressive.
“Again?” It’s my turn to laugh. As if she’s less stubborn....
The cocky smile falls from her face revealing a disturbed woman. She chokes back her reply and changes the subject
''I left your dress inside your closet. It's kind of tight you better fit into it'' she chuckles
''I'm not fat mum” I hiss in annoyance
''I didn't say you're fat'' she raises her hands defensively
''Whatever'' I quit trying, an argument with my mum is always lost. My hands make their way to my rumbling stomach and rub it softly ''Mum... Can you please tell Ruby to fetch me a snack? I haven't eaten since five''
''No. We're going for dinner anyway'' she denies shaking her head, her soft blonde curls moving from side to side
''But I'm hungry''
''Sounds like your problem''
Very mature answer from a 47-year-old woman. And they act like I’m the stubborn one in this family. Her words hurt me, I swallow my tears and speak my mind openly, I can’t always behave kind as my parents expect me to
''I'm going to pass out for fuck's sake''
''Watch your mouth!'' she shouts ''This dinner is important to your father, to us, we have to look flawless. I've put so much effort into finding the ideal dress for you. It would be very unfortunate if your stomach seemed bloated or even worse if you didn't fit into it.” She shoots me a threatening look “To conclude, no food till the dinner, get ready please''
After finishing her monologue she leaves my bedroom hurriedly, she has to finish her preparations as well. I'm used to her insults, I always feel hurt whatsoever but it's nothing I can't cope with. What annoys me the most right now is my poor stomach that's begging for some food.
''Hey Skye'' I hear a small voice realizing it's Ruby
''Hey'' my eyes flash when I lower my gaze and see what she's holding
''I overheard your conversation with mrs Westbrook, looks like it's your lucky day'' she smiles and hands me the bowl filled with milk and cereal
“It's light but enough to satisfy your hunger I guess''
''You're an angel'' I whisper and dive into my cereal. They taste better than I thought, when you’re hungry everything tastes better. Indeed Ruby an angel. She always appears right when I need her.
''I have to go now, your parents are probably looking for me''
''Please stay'' I extend my hand and grab her upper arm.
''I wish I could... We'll catch up tomorrow morning''  she pats my hair sympathetically and excuses herself.
Ruby is 8 years older than me. I'm sure you're wondering why a 26-year-old young girl works as a maid instead of exploring the world and living her dreams. Well let's say that life didn't go easy on her as many unfortunate events took place and forced her to leave her dreams behind and work hard. She's been working for us for 3 years and because of her young age and amazing, bubbly character we grew closer to the point I consider her as a best friend. And these small gestures make me love her even more.
8:10. I devour the rest of my cereal and run straight towards the bathroom to take a quick shower. We've got a long night ahead of us...
Tumblr media
Present
''What do you mean they didn't agree?'' I question dryly, my eyebrows raised in blatant disbelief
The man across my desk gulps “No matter how much we tried to convice them they clarified they're not interested in cooperation''
''We need this cooperation. If we gain their shareholders trust so that they invest in our company too the success is guaranteed.'' I tap my nails against the table attempting to collect myself.
''I know. What are we doing now?''
''I'm not sure. Just tell Taehyung to get his ass over here right now''
He chuckles ''Do you need a coffee?''
''Right now I need a few tranquilizers with whiskey'' I rub my forehead exhausted
''That's easier to find than your weird coffee. Dairy free coconut milk creamer?''
I crack a smile ''You know that I'm lactose intolerant. I'm not a weird person''
''So what about your odd stevia sweetener instead of sugar?'' he remarks quickly crossing his arms across the chest
''I'm on a diet. Women have to take care of their body, you understand don't you?'' I bat my eyelashes innocently
''Yes but decaf cappucino? For God's sake Skye''
''Hoseok it's time to go now'' I act serious but hardly keep my laughter
''You have no idea how the barista looks at me every time I say all these shits you drink'' The desperate look on his face makes the situation even funnier
''You have no idea how your mother's gonna look at you when you announce you got fired''
''It's time to leave, I have so many errands to run'' he gets up pretending to study his wrist watch ''See you Skye''
''That wasn't smooth Hoseok. Let Taehyung know I want to meet him''
''Okay boss'' he gives a salute and finally exits my office.
I lean back on my chair and gently rub my temples. Last night I had nightmares that didn't leave me to rest.
It sounds weird but I've noticed that I have warning dreams, I found that out when I was 20 years old. I usually don't have dreams but when I do, they are always giving me signs.
Attempting to quench my curiosity I did a little research in order to interpret them and found something called precognitive dreaming but I'm not sure if this is what I have because I still haven't figured whether my dreams can predict the future or they just convey a subconscious message. What I know for sure is whenever I have a bad dream something unfortunate happens whereas whenever I have good dreams luck seems to be on my side. It's been so long since I last had a blissful dream, so many years... I don't believe in dreams however, I'm a business woman that depends on actual evidences and not on my sixth sense or whatever.
But last night you had a nightmare and today we didn't make the important deal with Kim Enterprises, the voice inside my head comments.
''You wanted to see me'' Taehyung interrupts my stupid thoughts
''Maybe I wouldn't dislike you that much if you knocked the door''
''Maybe you would have someone to screw with if you weren't so annoying'' he laughs and takes a seat
''You're laughing? I'm glad because after our conversation you won't''
''I suppose you're referring to the deal with Kim Enterprises right?''
''What happened Taehyung?'' I ask seriously this time
''They are not interested. I tried hard to make them agree but they weren't having it'' he grabs a pen and fiddles with it
''They weren't content with our terms?''
''No, no Skye we both know our offer is very tempting and they really appreciated that. However, they are planning a launch of a brand new product which they developed on their own that's why they're busy and not capable of following our terms''
I nod noncommittally and bite my lower lip deep in thoughts ''What kind of product?'' I finally ask Taehyung
''They didn't say. They made clear though that it's gonna be a revolutionary tool. I suspect it's a cellphone with the new mobile operating system they created last year.''
''You suspect? Based on what?''
''Let's say that some information leaked, you know how these things work. We're not 100% sure though''
''And they declined our offer? They declined an offer from a marketing company like ours? We could have increased sales dramatically. Stupid people.'' I hiss and take a sip of my strawberry infused water, the cool liquid soothing my throat
''We shouldn't push them more, we put a future cooperation at risk''
'' I know.'' I hide my face with my hands
''Hey, don't let this bring you down. We had so many beneficial projects and cooperations this year, we don't need Kim that much''
''It's just... forget it'' I shake my head and Taehyung leans forward and captures my hand.
''What?'' he mutters softly
''I don't wanna fail''
''You didn't fail sweetheart. It's something we both want so much but unfortunately things  don't work out every time. Let's focus on the rest of our responsibilities'' he massages my fingers and wrist softly, with care and smiles.
''Ok''I simply reply
''You look tired''
''I didn't sleep at night. And your massage doesn't help, it makes me more sleepy'' I lean back and close my eyes
''You didn't sleep well huh?'' I'm sure he's smirking
''Taehyung shut up''
''No answer. That's suspicious''
''With Grace sleeping in the room next to mine your assumption is invalid. Sorry''
''Hm...Ok. What time are you picking her up from school?''
''In 3 hours''
''Go home, I'm taking over for you'' he stops massaging for a moment''Ugh don't stop'' I plead. A breathy laugh escapes his lips and he starts rubbing again
''I have to come back and pick her up so there's no point to leave'' Grace's school is a block away from the company so it's convenient to pick her up once I finish my work.
''I'm picking her up don't worry, you need to rest''
''You don't have to drive that much, don't worry I can stay''
''You're dead on your feet. Go home please'' he insists
''Are you sure?''
''Yes'' he places a small kiss on my hand and stands up
“Can you drive?''
''Gosh, Taehyung what has gotten into you? Don't be so kind because I may grow fond of you and that's disgusting'' I sing playfully
''I promise I'll start knocking the door from now on. Is this reason strong enough for you to like me?''
''Do it and I'll think about it. Give me my coat'' I smirk
He looks at me and hands me my pink coat, the familiar, boxy smile never leaving his lips.
''See you in 3 hours'' I greet him patting his back
''See you'' he greets me back. Once I step away he stays still, hesitantly yet intensely checking out my back figure until I reach the mirror covered elevator.
Stupid men...
Tumblr media
''See you next week girls. Take care'' the ballet teacher says and the small ballerinas slowly make their way to the changing room. There walks the familiar tiny figure, some strands of hair fluttering in the wind although she has a sleek bun secured with a pink scrunchie matching her tutu.
She raises her eyes and when we make eye contact she waves excitedly and whispers something about me in her friend's ear. She's so proud of me, always raving about me in front of her friends and teachers. That's the main reason I always behave so well when she's present, my priority as her role model is to make sure I have a good influence on her.
A few minutes after she appears holding her bright fuchsia backpack.Pink is her favourite colour.
''Hey Skye''
''Hey sweetheart, did you have fun?''
''Yeah but I got tired, my feet hurt''
''Aw, don't worry tomorrow you'll be fine'' I zip her puffer jacket and bid her ballet teacher goodbye as we exit the studio.
''Have you been watching me dancing? I couldn't see you from the ballroom'' she asks while we're walking towards my car
''I watched the entire show''
She simply hums trying to conceal her surprise but I can see her cheeks getting flushed
''Get in darling, it's cold'' I suggest and unlock the car. She sits in the back seat, fastens her seatbelt and waits patienly for the next step.
''Here you are'' I hand her her favourite chocolate cookies along with an orange juice, it’s a part of her post work out routine. She cheers and dives into her snack right away.
It's 7pm, dark sky but the car lights illuminate the busy road
''Skye...''
''Yes sweetheart'' I check the mirror as soon as I hear her voice
''Today we're having a Looney Tunes marathon, you didn't forget did you?''
''Of course not'' I shake my head ''Maybe I have some pizza waiting for you''
''Really?''
''Only if you take your vitamins of course'' I offer and finally turn left into the familiar street. We're almost home.
''No...they taste terrible''
''They don't, they're really tasty in fact'' my eyes land on the mirror to take a look at the road behind
''If I have to do it for pizza, I will.” She nods with a pout on her lips
“You should get me a different flavor, I hate mango”
''I thought mango was your favourite fruit''
''I like it only in my shampoo''
''Okay then'' my gaze travels back in the mirror just to see what I've been afraid of. This car. This red car that has been following us for the last 5 minutes.
''Skye I'm talking to you''
''What?''I reply thinking of what I should do now
''Tomorrow our teacher said we must wear sport clothes because we're playing volley''
''Ok''
''My baby pink set is washed isn't it?''
''Yes''
''Don't lie I saw it in the dirty laundry this morning''
''Grace can you please stop talking for a second?'' She doesn't answer but I'm sure she's pouting annoyed. My house is a kilometre ahead and the red vehicle is still two cars behind.
My heart beats so fast but I can't panic now that my sister is here. I stop in the closest parking lot and wait. Grace examines the place and I'm sure she's dying to ask why we stopped but she doesn't speak.
My heart stops when the red car passes by me but instead of stopping as I thought it would, it keeps moving with the same speed. I stay and watch till it disappears.
Once I realize everything is ok I blink hard, gulping for a breath.Well, I probably have misunderstood things.
My mind is running wild, why would someone follow me? I'm such a scaredy-cat...I start my car and drive back home.
Maybe I should stop watching Criminal Minds...

1046.
Do you ever find yourself worrying about things that probably won't happen? >> The thing is, the things I worry about are things that can happen. I know because I’ve already experienced those things happening. It’s the likelihood of the thing happening that may or may not be skewed in my imagination, not the thing itself.
Has your imagination ever made it hard for you to sleep? >> I don’t think so.
Have you ever had a weird dream and obsessed over what it might mean? >> I’ve had plenty of weird dreams, but I didn’t obsess over their possible meaning.
Or do you usually forget about your dreams? >> Nowadays, yeah, I don’t remember my dreams too consistently.
Do you know your heritage? If not, would you ever try one of those DNA kits? >> I know enough, I suppose. I would definitely not do one of those DNA kits, for multiple reasons.
Which languages can you speak? >> Only English with any fluency.
Which language do you speak the most and why? >> ---
Which languages do you wish you were fluent in? >> ---
With films in languages you do not speak, do you prefer a dub or subtitles? >> I greatly prefer subs. I like listening to different languages. Plus, I find that a lot of the times, the dub actors don’t match up well in my opinion.
Which cuisine do you like the least? >> ---
Are there any foods you dislike because of the texture? >> Absolutely.
Which type of chocolate do you like best? >> I only eat dark chocolate.
Do you have a favorite kind of dog? >> Pit bulls, I guess, but I really just like dogs period.
Do you let your pets sleep in your bed? >> I would not.
Do any of your favorite musicians ever write music for/with other artists? >> I mean, probably.
What is your favorite collaboration between two different musicians? >> I can’t think of a favourite collaboration.
Who are your favorite songwriters? >> I don’t have any.
Do you like any of those oldies groups (like the Four Seasons)? >> Yep. I grew up listening to them and I still love a lot of that music.
Do you know who Bernie Taupin is? >> He writes with Elton John, don’t he? They’re associated somehow, anyway.
What are your favorite one-hit wonders? >> Meh.
What celebrities, if any, have you seen naked? >> I mean, whichever ones did nude scenes in movies I’ve seen.
Have you ever seen anybody naked by accident? >> Not necessarily by accident, just... not by my consent. Living in shelters, you see a lot you don’t necessarily want to see.
Have you ever wondered what somebody looks like naked? >> In an idly musing sense, sure.
Have you ever had a sexual fantasy about a celebrity? >> When I was younger.
Have you ever changed your clothes in the car? >> I don’t think so, but maybe.
About how quickly does your hair grow? >> Too quickly for my liking, considering how often I have to buzz it.
Do you have to/choose to shave anything unusual? >> No.
Do you groom (wax, pluck, or thread) your eyebrows? >> No.
Most unusual thing you have worn in public? >> I don’t know?
If you wear makeup, what are your preferred brands? >> I don’t have any preferred brands.
Do you use flavored lip balm? What about tinted lip balm? >> Nope, just regular coconut-oil lip balm, thanks.
What is your favorite swear word? >> ---
Are you afraid of fireworks or other loud noises? >> I’m not afraid of them, I just have sensory issues and an exaggerated startle reflex. My responses are similar to fear responses, though, so it’s all the same shit at the end of the day, I guess.
Do you make your own iced tea, or buy it in jugs/bottles? >> I buy bottled iced tea.
Have you ever made sun tea? >> No.
Do you use sugar or honey to sweeten your tea? >> I use honey sometimes, but most of the time I drink it as-is.
Do you ever put milk in your tea? >> Not usually. It’s good in chai, but I just never think about it.
Do you prefer powdered or liquid coffee creamer? >> ---
Did your school have somewhere for girls to get emergency pads/tampons? >> ---
Did you have to wear a uniform for gym class? >> ---

Do you think they should make a movie about Hatshepsut? >> I don’t have an opinion on this.
Do you think books are better adapted as movies or TV series? >> I think TV series are better if you want to actually delve into more of the book’s content.
Any great books you would recommend? >> ---
Any great movies or TV series you would recommend? >> ---
Were you disappointed with Fox's version of the Rocky Horror Show? >> I don’t care about Rocky Horror.
Have you ever seen the original Kinky Boots movie? What about the musical? >> Never seen either.
Have you seen any Hannibal movies other than The Silence of the Lambs? >> I’ve seen Red Dragon, Hannibal, and Hannibal Rising.
Have you read any of the Hannibal novels? >> Not yet. I’ve considered reading Red Dragon, since Francis Dolarhyde is my fave, but eh. Maybe one day.
Do you like any Indie movies? >> I mean, yes.
Have there been any movies you had fond memories of, but upon a rewatch didn't like as well? >> Absolutely. Tastes and needs evolve over time.
Do you like to go to the movies alone? >> I do, I love it. I especially love it when I go to a weekday matinee a couple of weeks after a movie’s premiere and the theater is empty of anyone save me. It’s the best feeling. I had so much fun watching Venom in an empty theater :)
When you watch movies/TV with people, do you find yourself making sarcastic remarks to each other? >> Well, that’d depend on the people, I guess. And what kind of mood I’m in. And what the movie/TV show even was.
Have you ever dried down any flowers to keep them? >> No.
What is your favorite thing that you have made by yourself? >> ---
Do you like your natural accent (everybody has one)? >> I’m fine with how I speak.
What accents do you find most pleasant? >> ---

Do you ever go on murderpedia.org to read about murderers? >> No.
Have you ever read about the Black Dahlia? >> No.

The 10 Best Coconut Milks for Your Culinary Delights, from Dishes to Smoothies
<p>As Asian cuisine has grown in popularity over the past few decades, so has coconut milk. The plant-based milk is an excellent dairy alternative and provides a natural sweetness to dishes without adding sugar. You can also add it to smoothies or drink it on its own. Just be aware that some coconut milk (particularly the canned variety) is intended more for cooking than it is for drinking. It tends to be much thicker than the kind geared toward use in beverages.</p> <p>Our choices for the best coconut milk offer you rich consistency with great flavor. They’re easy to store, and you can use them to create so many of your favorite international dishes. Let’s look through our favorites to round out your kitchen supplies.</p> <h3>Related Guides</h3> <ul> <li>Best Almond Milk Brands</li> <li>Nutritious Oat Milk Brands to Shop</li> </ul> <h2>Best Overall: Thai Kitchen Organic Unsweetened Coconut Milk</h2> <figure><img src="https://ift.tt/3vfpopN" alt="The 10 Best Coconut Milks for Your Culinary Delights, from Dishes to Smoothies" /></figure> <p>Thai Kitchen uses organic coconut meat from first pressing to create their creamy coconut milk. It’s USDA organic, gluten-free, and contains no preservatives. It’s suitable for a wide array of dishes, including soups and stews, curries, and international dishes as well as beverages. It has a mild coconut flavor with a smooth mouth-feel, and it pairs well with desserts or savory dishes. It may not have enough flavor to use by itself, but cooked into a dish brings out the overall creaminess.</p> <h2>Best “Lite” Option: Thai Kitchen Unsweetened Lite Coconut Milk</h2> <figure><img src="https://ift.tt/3vflNYJ" alt="The 10 Best Coconut Milks for Your Culinary Delights, from Dishes to Smoothies" /></figure> <p>Thai Kitchen’s “lite” option features 60% fewer calories than regular coconut milk but keeps all the flavor. It’s USDA-organic and non-GMO with a 17-19% fat content. It cooks well into dishes for a rich outcome and also works well in drinks or smoothies. It also offers a convenient pop-top for easy opening.</p> <h2>Best Powdered Version: Kos Organic Coconut Milk Powder</h2> <figure><img src="https://ift.tt/3lFsUGP" alt="The 10 Best Coconut Milks for Your Culinary Delights, from Dishes to Smoothies" /></figure> <p>This powdered creamer offers convenient, non-refrigerated storage with a screw-top lid. They feature the great taste of chocolate with the health benefits of coconut milk in a convenient package. It contains around 50% less sugar than standard chocolate milk drinks, and the drinks use coconuts grown without the use of persistent pesticides.</p> <h2>Best Guar-Free Choice: Native Forest Simple Coconut Milk</h2> <figure><img src="https://ift.tt/3FOCAGX" alt="The 10 Best Coconut Milks for Your Culinary Delights, from Dishes to Smoothies" /></figure> <p>Guar gum helps prevent separation in many canned products. However, if you’d rather only coconut be in your coconut milk, this option from Native Forest works pretty well. The milk is non-GMO and organic, offering a clean coconut flavor with some separation. Swirl or stir to remix and cook or drink as usual.</p> <h2>Why Should I Drink Coconut Milk?</h2> <p>Coconut milk has all sorts of health benefits. It contains a source of healthy fats known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), compounds that help you maintain your appetite and provide energy. It contains small amounts of calcium and iron. It can help reduce discomfort for those with dairy sensitivities when replacing milk in dishes or drinks.</p> <h2>Should I Be Concerned About the Fat?</h2> <p>Coconut milk does contain higher levels of fat than fat-free milk, but there’s a (good) catch. Those fats may help the body maintain energy and help reduce bad cholesterol. As with all things, drinking in moderation can help alleviate some of your concerns.</p> <h2>Can I Cook with Coconut Milk?</h2> <p>Coconut milk is stable and suitable for cooking in a variety of dishes. In some cases, you can replace dairy milk one-to-one with coconut milk. You’ll want to take care that the milk doesn’t scald on the stove, but for the most part, it’s simple to substitute for milk in dishes.</p> <h2>How Do I Choose the Right Coconut Milk?</h2> <p>You’ll want to pay attention to flavor first. Strong coconut flavor may be great for your tropical smoothie, but it won’t go so well with a savory dish you’re trying to make. A milder flavor can go with that dish without overpowering the other flavors.</p> <p>Next, you’ll want to explore texture. Some of the coconut milks on the list are thick and creamy. You’d almost need a spoon to get them out. Others are very pourable, almost like regular milk. Depending on what you’re using them for, you may need different textures to get the best result. Finally, look at storage. Do you need a shelf-stable can? Do you want BPA-free containers? Are you willing to refrigerate leftovers? Choose a storage option that works for your needs.</p> <h2>Choosing the Right Coconut Milk</h2> <p>Our choices for best canned coconut milks and best tasting coconut milks offer the range of flavor and texture profiles you’ll need to cook every dish and make every drink. It’s time to explore everything the world of coconut milk has to offer.</p> <h4> Editors' Recommendations </h4> <ul> <li> Best Thermoelectric Coolers for Ice-Free Cooling on a Budget </li> <li> The 10 Best Beard Balms That Add Luster to Your Untamed Mane </li> <li> The 10 Best Teas To Help You Sleep at Night </li> <li> The 9 Best Whiskies Under $100 </li> <li> The 9 Best Air Fryers for a Healthier Way To Deep-Fry Your Food </li> </ul> source https://familycuisine.net/best-coconut-milk-for-smoothies/

This simple vegan boba milk tea is based on the sweet, milky tea I had when I lived in Vietnam for a few months back in 2009! So creamy, lightly sweet and full of delicious boba!
This summer seems the be the summer of nostalgia for me and veganizing some Asian classics (like fire noodles, banh bot loc, thit kho, and braised eggplant)! This bubble tea is based on the original Taiwanese boba milk tea, which is a creamy, lightly sweetened black tea with chewy tapioca pearls (aka boba or bubbles)! Of course as you try different versions, there are more additions like grass jelly (usually vegan!), lychee jelly (also vegan!), popping boba (also vegan-friendly!)
Huh. I hadn’t realized how many toppings for boba that are totally vegan, because most bubble tea places don’t tend to have non-dairy creamers/milks. But now that places like Cha Time are introducing oat milk, now I can get more fun toppings that work better with a milk tea!
For most boba shops that aren’t very vegan-friendly, I usually get a slushy-style bubble tea or a black tea/green tea boba without any milk; but the milky tea is just so good! I’ve tried various black teas, but the one that comes closest to the type of tea I remember is Hong Kong style breakfast tea (which from what I’ve learned is commonly served hot with evaporated milk). I see it in Asian grocery stores in tea bags or as a bag of loose ground tea leaves.
The one I used for this is ground so I brewed it in a larger cup, then strained through a coffee strainer. If you have a fine mesh sieve or tea strainer, that would work too! I was also told that this tea likes to be aerated, so people have told me to pour the tea from high up to “aerate” it? As someone who chronically spills and breaks glasses all the time, I feel like this is a terrible idea for me to do, so I aerate artificially with the coffee filter.
If you want it nicely chilled like at bubble tea shops, you can use a cocktail shaker with ice to quickly shake up and cool the tea, then pour the tea over your fresh boba, add milk and ice to your liking! Shaking up the tea quickly with the ice cools the tea faster so it has less time to melt the ice (and thus diluting the tea). If you were like me and inexplicably lost/donated/threw out your cocktail shaker somewhere in the last move, then you can just skip this part and just have slightly diluted tea.
For the milky part of this tea, traditionally Hong Kong milk tea uses evaporated milk, but I’ve also seen some people use sweetened condensed milk. Luckily, we have vegan versions of it now but it’s typically coconut-based (and often kind of pricey). I find that swapping the milky component for a nice, creamy soy milk or oat milk, or a nice and rich coffee creamer will do just the trick! If I have Silk soy coffee creamer, that’s usually my go-to choice, but if I only have soy milk, I just increase the amount of sugar (from 1 tbsp to 2 tbsp) in the sugar syrup, then use more soy milk. It’s always been a delicious time!
Lastly, it’s important to note that when you cook the boba, it’s not sweetened at all, so if you add the simple syrup separately from the bubbles, they won’t have absorbed any of that sweetness. I’ve found best results by cooking the tapioca pearls for an extra minute or so with the sugar syrup to be the best way to infuse some of the sweetness into the tapioca while also using the remaining simple syrup as a sweetener for the rest of the drink. Trust me, I learned the hard way!

Vegan Boba Milk Tea

Print
This is a simple and delicious milk tea with bubbles that is what made me fall in love with boba! Based on the original Taiwanese milk boba tea, this is the veganized bubble tea that made me fall in love with this fun drink!
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes
Ingredients
2 tbsp Hong Kong style black tea (Ceylon black tea)
2 cups boiling water
1/2 tapioca pearls + water for the pot (use 1/4-1/3 cup per serving)
1 tbsp (13 g) sugar
2 tbsp (30 mL) water
2 cups ice
2-4 tbsp vegan soy creamer* (mine is sweetened, but if yours isn't, increase sugar amount to 2 tbsp)
Instructions
First brew the tea with boiling water and the tea. Since the tea leaves tend to be more finely ground in this tea, I prefer to stir the tea completely into the water, and then strain through a coffee filter. You can use a coffee filter in a mesh sieve if you don't have a coffee cone, or use a nut bag to strain the tea. Let cool or refrigerate while you prepare the tapioca.
In a small pot over medium heat, bring about 1 inch of water to a boil. Once at a rolling boil, add the tapioca pearls and cook until softened all the way into the centre (I tend to taste test to check). I have some quick-cooking boba so it only takes about 3 minutes, but I've had boba that takes 10-15 minutes to cook through. Stir so that it doesn't stick to each other or the bottom of the pot.
Once cooked through, strain and return to the pot with 1 tbsp of sugar and 2 tbsp of water. Continue to cook until the sugar is dissolved, and then transfer both the boba and sugar syrup to your two drinking glasses.
Add 1 cup of tea per glass over your ice, and pour your strained tea over the ice. Stir to chill the tea, then add 2-4 tbsp of vegan creamer (I use coffee creamer) to your desired milky consistency.
Stir and enjoy!
Notes
If you don't have soy coffee creamer, use for your favourite non-dairy milk instead! My coffee creamer is sweetened, so when I'm using milk instead, I use 2 tbsp of sugar with the boba to make the syrup instead, then add about 1/2 cup soy milk to 1 cup of tea.

While espresso in itself doesn't have a damaging or optimistic influence on a keto weight-reduction plan, it’s the excessive quantity of milk added to the espresso store favorites similar to lattes, cappuccinos and flat whites that may probably compromise progress in the direction of attaining and sustaining the specified state of ketosis. I’ve stated it earlier than and I’ll say it once more…espresso is life! For many people, it’s one of many few issues that may wake us up within the morning and set the correct tone for the day! So whereas it might be advisable to ditch the milky lattes and cappuccinos on the native espresso store, I’m undoubtedly not advocating avoiding espresso on keto. Ordering Keto Coffee at Coffee Shops I’ve created this helpful comparability chart (see beneath) that can assist you higher perceive the carb depend in numerous coffees which are sometimes bought by most native espresso retailers. The dietary values for this chart have been sourced from Starbucks, one of the frequented espresso franchises within the U.S. But you can find comparable dietary values at your native espresso store. A protected possibility is to order a freshly brewed black espresso. If black espresso isn’t your desire although, there's all the time the choice of requesting 1-2 tablespoons of cream to be added which then totals 1g carbs per cup of espresso. Not dangerous, proper?! My Favorite Coffee Order – how one can save carbs AND cash My go-to espresso order is all the time an Americano (lengthy black) with a facet jug of sizzling water and a facet jug of full-fat cream. What’s the new water for? Well as I add the cream to my espresso, I additionally add sizzling water. The sizzling water does two issues, it retains my espresso sizzling after the addition of the cream PLUS I handle to get 2 cups of espresso for the worth of 1 and the carbs in these two cups = 1g-2g complete. How genius is that? Almond milk can be an incredible possibility to enliven your black espresso because it comprises the least quantity of carbs which is able to then liberate your macros for the remainder of the day! Making Keto Coffee at Home If you like making espresso at house earlier than getting your day began, then it’s value taking word of some hidden carbs similar to pointless extra milk, some synthetic sweeteners and sugar alcohols that also elevate blood sugars. The Best Sweeteners for Keto Coffee A whole lot of store-bought sweeteners that declare to be low-carb are the truth is not applicable for keto and can most probably throw you out of ketosis so be very cautious when studying the again of packing for elements. In specific, something with the phrases “dextrose” or “maltodextrin” must be averted as they act as fillers which spike insulin ranges. The two greatest sweeteners that you must add to your espresso are stevia and erythritol. They are keto-friendly and lack that horrible aftertaste that almost all different sweeteners are answerable for. The Best Alternatives to Dairy Milk in Coffee While many people get pleasure from some milk in our espresso, it’s not all the time the best choice when making an attempt to make sure that macro counts do go over the every day threshold. Now, whereas there are solely 4g complete carbs in a 100ml serving of milk, when you prefer to get pleasure from having just a few coffees all through the day and are additionally together with sweeteners, you'll be able to see how this may shortly add up which implies that you’ll have to actually scale back your carb consumption in your meals for the day. This could be fairly a problem and is probably pointless to must battle with since there are nice alternate options to exploit that tastes nice with out the added guilt or stress.

Ultimate Guide To Carbs In Coffee
Tumblr media
Reference: Starbucks Global Assets – Coffee Nutrition Information Why do some black coffees have carbs? You can view an analogous dialogue on carbs in black espresso in our Facebook group. So you'll discover {that a} filter black espresso has 0g carbs, espresso shot has 1g and an Americano has 2g. What offers? It all comes right down to the brewing strategies.  Coffee beans have fats, protein, carbs and fibre. How a lot results in your morning cuppa will depend upon how your espresso has been made. Spoiler alert, in actuality, the carb worth for all black coffees are fairly negligible. Filter espresso is made with sizzling water dripping by the espresso grinds, so negligible carbs come by from the beans. Whereas an espresso is made with boiling water pressured underneath strain by the espresso grinds, extracting extra of the bean than a filter espresso would. An Americano is 2 espresso pictures.  So now you perceive why some black espresso is zero and a few are 2g, the excellent news is, that almost all of those teeny weeny espresso grinds will find yourself on the backside of your cup and so little or no shall be ingested. Confused? But wait … there’s extra. Some carb values are calculated and a few are from dietary databases. So when you take a look at 10 apps, you’ll get 10 solutions for black espresso. Takehome message: In actuality, black espresso has negligible carbs. Phew. How Are Carbs Calculated By Food Manufacturers? Did you understand that carbohydrate values in a diet label are usually not really measured … however calculated? First, a portion of meals shall be examined for a way a lot fats, protein, ash, water and alcohol it comprises. Then the rest is calculated to be the carbohydrate worth. It appears just a little like this. 100g – (weight in grams of in 100 g of meals) = Total Amount of  grams of carbohydrates Hence there can usually be a discrepancy between what the label calculates a meals to have, and the way a lot it really has? PLUS the diet label doesn't take into accounts how a lot is absorbed by our intestine, how a lot passes by, and what settles to the underside of our espresso cup. Pretty complicated proper? Then, after all, there are diet labels which are calculated from diet databases. Reference:

I start my day with a solid probiotic washed down with detoxifying lemon drinking water on a clear stomach (I favor Dr. Ohhira Professional Power or Renew Life 100 Billion). As well as the lemon drinking water, my first drink of your day is my Detox Tonic (a mixture of Tonix Coconut Drinking water Kefir, George's Always Dynamic Aloe Vera, Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar, the juice of 1 lemon, and a dash of cayenne). I take advantage of this to improve my disease fighting capability and to concentrate on gut health very first thing each day.
While my daughter gets ready for school, I'm making our matcha green tea extract lattes (I blend all the following in my Vitamix: 4 ozs. milk almond, 4 ozs. coconut dairy,1/2 tsp. organic matcha tea natural powder, 1 tbsp. of coconut essential oil, vanilla stevia, real vanilla natural powder, and cinnamon). Both of us love this grassy mix. It is not only filled with antioxidants, but it can help keep my energy and concentrate strong. The addition of the healthy excess fat (coconut essential oil) keeps me satiated until lunchtime.
To make sure that I'm getting my daily allotment of vitamins, nutrients, phytochemicals, and antioxidants, I usually have a green juice sooner or later in your day. My go-to mix is a simple formula with romaine (great proteins for a green), celery, cucumber, lemon, ginger, and turmeric main.
If I don't possess a lunch conference, I usually make a salad-I start with a big scoop of probiotic sauerkraut and place it over mixed greens, and I quickly add every vegetable in my fridge, drizzle with pumpkin, walnut or avocado oil, and Herbamare seasoning. I end with a scoop of the best homemade vegan Faux Almond “Tuna” Salad.
In the mid-afternoon, I typically see clients out of my office at home and I like to share a cup of adaptogen Tulsi Tea (holy basil) with them. I put in a few drops of Omica Organics Stevia.
Family dinner is crucial in my household and everyone understands the best is Millet Falafel with Avocado Relish & Roasted Asparagus Salad. That is my notion of a perfect plant-based meal-and one which my entire family enjoys! It feels great to have them up to speed with healthy eating which is one supper we all concur on.

For breakfast, I have a smoothie with chocolates whey protein powder, avocado, blueberries, greens powder, and MCT oil. That's the best breakfast-it likes like dessert.
For lunch, I've organic poultry over a kale salad with roasted brussels sprouts.
Supper is same-protein and vegetables. ONCE I used to consume more grains, fruits, and sweets, I ran into trouble. I gained weight and my blood sugar was too much. Now I'm careful to remain away from sugars. In this manner of eating works far better for me.
For snacks, I might have a little dark chocolate or some chocolate chia seed pudding. We have a great formula at the wellbeing middle: 1 can coconut dairy, 3 tbsp. chia seed products, Stevia to flavor, 2 tbsp. natural cacao natural powder, 1/2 ripe avocado, and 1 tbsp. butter almond. Spin all elements through the Vitamix, and then allow it to sit down in the refrigerator for thirty minutes before providing. When people be concerned that eliminating glucose will feel just like deprivation, I just talk about this formula with them-it's delicious.

When I up wake, I start my day with an espresso and almond dairy creamer (I like the Vanilla Almond dairy creamer by Califa Farms). It likes just like a vanilla latte. I want my espresso and I love to awaken gradually while enjoying it, watching the news headlines, and returning email messages. I am not a breakfast time person. I can't stand to consume at 8 a.m. I do not pressure myself to consume because it is 8 a.m. and many people are eating breakfast time. I eat when I'm starving. I have a 9-year-old child, so I need to get him ready and drop him off at college.
After, I get back and also have juice or a smoothie. I get ready-made juices, like Development Protection, or make a smoothie with banana, almond dairy, vanilla protein natural powder, and a tablespoon of almond butter. I am given by its energy. EASILY eat a lot of carbs each day, I shall get sleepy.
Lunchtime is a salad with romaine lettuce, cherry tomato vegetables, diced chicken white meat, slivered almonds, raisins, cucumber, and a diced apple. I like balsamic vinaigrette dressing, and I might toss in a few simple croutons for crunch. I choose the basic crostini from the bakery and break them up as croutons. Or I'll have a turkey cover. These options keep me energized without weighing me down.
I have a snack only when I'm hungry. I buy ready-to-eat cleaned and slice veggie platters in the marketplace. I like jicama sticks, therefore I treat on that with hummus, or an orange, or Snapea Crisps.
ONCE I was single, supper was at 8, however now that I have a son and a spouse, supper reaches 6 p.m. I make four times weekly. I like to grab rotisserie poultry from the manufacturer (Gelsons is the best). Then, I make steamed broccoli, drizzle with essential olive oil and just a little garlic clove sodium, and rice. Another supper is pan-fried flank steak, oven-roasted potatoes, and a salad. I have protein always, starch, and veggie. AFTER I don't feel just like cooking food, I grab smooth tacos from Poquito Mas or Teriyaki Salmon Veggie Bowls from an area restaurant called Yogi's Barbeque grill. After supper, I do not eat a great deal as leading to putting on weight. EASILY need something nice, I would eat Red Vines licorice, fruit-juice bars, coconut or sorbet gluten-free macaroon.
Overall, I follow a dairy-free, mainly gluten-free Mediterranean diet-I'm Armenian and Italian so it is what I ate growing up. I like cheese and snow cream, however when I eat it I use in acne around my chin and throat, and I get bloated. THEREFORE I avoid all dairy products and my pores and skin are clear. I think better overall, much less tired once I avoid gluten, but sometimes I crave pasta or people from France pieces of bread, therefore I just eat it. I shoot for 1400 to 1600 calorie consumption each day, but I don't record my food. I could keep the monitor in my mind and estimation.
I don't consume alcohol. Wines provide me a headache and i think such as a zombie the very next day. Sometimes I'll have a margarita or cup of wines if I'm in the feeling, but usually, I'm the specified driver. I order cranberry juice with a lime often. Truthfully, as it pertains to beverages, I make an effort to have a container of drinking water in the automobile, therefore, i stay hydrated. I'll have an intermittent Sprite or Snapple Peach Tea. I avoid diet drinks-I only need the standard with sugars. The artificial sweeteners (Splenda, sucralose, aspartame, etc.) make me bloated and crave glucose. I think it's alright to involve some sugars if you work it into the daily calories.
