Yes I think Kabru would have to be Chat Noir - in terms of deuteragonist-ness is SHOULD be Marcille, but she and Laios just doesn't have enough of a bizarre push and pull Dynamic. We need real character foils to pull off that relationship square.

These opening pages of the next chapter are so devastating. After all the movement of the fight, this simple layout and minimal dialogue make the grief and horror and just emptiness, emptiness where Falin should be, where hope for Falin should be, ring like a low and broken bell. Driven in just a little deeper by Laios admitting he doesn't know a monsters fact (warg bones vs human bones) - there is helplessness, too. He's just doing the only thing he can, which is so little, in all this terrible caesura.

And then this! Marcille and Laois don't have the messy meatiness of relationship to carry and Miraculous Ladybug love square, but they are JOINTLY the parallel to the Mad Mage, and that's fascinating. They're on the same page here: Laios's "No" isn't just the denial of grief, it's a flat "That's not what we'll do." This is Laios - of course he's already thinking about how the red dragon is perfectly functional meat. As is Marcille, at last 100% in-step with him re: monsters = meat, here in the final steps to save Falin. With magic and drive and an absolute determination to save Falin, they're going to walk hand in hand into the darkness, and if something in their devours them (or their party, or the surface world...) - well, it'll have to beat them first, because throughout this world it's eat or be eaten, and those who want it most, win.

(And it IS fascinating that they do this while, so far as I've seen, basically remaining at the relationship tier of "good friends/in-laws." This isn't Found Family, it's Found Really Good Co-Workers; and I LOVE that.)

super self indulgent cause i’m a musician and also the lantern rite got me thinking.

maybe the acolytes have heard you play music before — you pause the game for a moment to fiddle with a guitar or tinkle with a piano. maybe you’re playing some of the in game music!

they can’t help but admire your music. the had no idea the creator was so talented in musical arts, and they would kill to hear you perform in their world.

xinyan, venti, yunjin, zhongli, nilou would probably be the ones who admire you the most. xinyan wants to perform with you — imagine how fun a rock and roll show would be! venti would love to sing along to your playing, crafting compositions for you to play. yunjin and nilou would love to use your music in their own respective perfomances — with nilou combing her dancing with your tunes — no matter the genre, she’ll find a way to enjoy the creator’s music! zhongli would probably admire your music as well — it reminds him if a distant friend that is long gone, who was passionate about it.

now imagine getting transported into the world …

everyone is fascinated. they want to hear you play, of course! instruments are a must for the creator, so all of teyvat rush to give you the best instruments you can.

xinyan with her guitar has me thinking as well. do you think they’d have guitar amps in genshin? given how … lacking in technology (like phones and computers and stuff) they are, would they have amps? imagine the confusion on xinyan’s face— before she finally gets it and really wants an amp. she wants everyone to hear her rock’n’roll tunes !!!!

i think venti would have a blast with any sort of woodwind instrument. the wind… could play this! flutes, clarinets, bassoons all that good stuff. he’s ecstatic!

in general i think it’d be interesting to see how all the characters react to specific genres. especially if the creator focuses on one genre.

rock. metal. jazz. classical. rap. hip hop. funk. i just love the idea of them wrapping their heads around genres, and enjoying distinctive ones.

agh i just love music. and i’d love to see more musician!reader in general. anyway brainrotting over heh

Squealing Santa 2023 Genshin Impact - Kaeya & Diluc

A/N: Merry Christmas, Mango-anon! That's right, I'm your @squealing-santa this year!

Heheh, isn't it funny that we changed the roles? After getting a gift from you in last year's SS, I tried to come up with something just as special - hopefully I made it up to your expectations!

Also, I couldn't find any canon info about the characters' height, so let's just go along with this one, yeah?

I just want to wish you a happy holiday season and thank @hypahticklish for hosting the event again!

Summary: When you are decorating the place, 2 cm can make a lot of difference.

Word count: 1338 words

“I think I remember this one, brother,” Kaeya chirped happily as he gently pulled another decoration from inside that old chest. Pinching the string that was attached to the toy to hold it up to his line of sight, Kaeya admired the golden, star-shaped object as it brought him some old memories from his childhood. “Hah, last time I saw this one, we still-”

“Care to do something other than reminiscing?” Diluc interrupted, with a frown on his face. Letting out an audible grunt, the redheaded dropped another box on top of the counter - also full of decorations.

By the end of the year, the people of Mondstadt had the tradition of decorating their houses to celebrate the arrival of winter and to cherish the moments they had together throughout that year. At least, most of the people did it.

Diluc wasn’t sure when it was the last time he had bothered to do something like this. He was even more clueless about why he decided to do it this time. Maybe his change of heart had something to do with the traveler or the latest events? Maybe after spending so much time with that spoiled bard was, at last, affecting him? Maybe was he sick? Diluc didn’t know - and did it really matter at this point? He looked to the side, spotting Kaeya’s smug, amused glance at him. Diluc rolled his eyes.

“My, of course, brother. I just couldn’t help myself… All the sweet memories coming back to my mind,” Kaeya mused poetically - mostly to annoy his brother even further. “I’m sure the winery will look just as lovely when we are done decorating it.”

Kaeya quickly got back to his feet, starting to hang a few garlands near the entrance, adding the ones that resembled small berries and snow flakes to enhance the composition even further. The captain smiled, proud of his work. “What do you think, Diluc?” Kaeya sighed proudly, placing his hands over his hips as he admired the results of his efforts.

However, as more seconds passed by and there was no sign of answers from his dear brother, Kaeya repeated himself, this time also looking back. “Diluc? What do you… think…”

“Just- agh, just a second,” Diluc grunted, gritting his teeth and stretching his arm as high as he could. Standing on the tip of his toes and leaning against the shelves, Diluc tried to place a bright, golden star on top of a tree - a spot that was clearly out of his reach.

Kaeya scoffed quietly, surprised that his brother would find such difficulties in such a simple task. “Do you need a hand? I could lift you if you want-”

“Shut it,” Diluc groaned, planting his heels back into the ground - and if looks could kill, Kaeya would’ve been sent to Celestia right at that moment. Diluc, already having his patience running short, looked at Kaeya’s work.

His eyes, despite all the charming decorations, focused on a garland that hung right in the middle of the composition. Diluc did the math inside his head and that thing was standing almost as high as the tip of the tree and, with no stairs or chairs around, it seemed that Kaeya managed to reach that spot effortlessly. Diluc felt that sight leaving a scratch on his ego. “Yeah, it’s decent I think,” Diluc huffed.

“Decent? Well, it’s still a compliment from you, I suppose, so I’ll assume I did a good job,” Kaeya crossed his arms, with a smug look on his face. The captain looked around and, after a few hours of work, they were almost done with the winery’s decoration: all that was left was the golden star in Diluc’s hand. “Let me finish that for you, brother.”

“What?” Diluc arched his eyebrow, turning his attention back to Kaeya.

“I said: let me finish that for you,” Kaeya repeated while approaching Diluc, reaching out his hand, waiting for the star to be handed to him.

“There is no need, I can do it myself,” Diluc narrowed his eyes and Kaeya chuckled. “What’s so funny?” The winery’s master muttered, getting back on the tip of his toes as he tried to reach the top of the tree.

“How tall are you?”

“W-what?” Diluc gasped, feeling a faint heat taking place in his hands. “What’s with this all of the sudden?” The reddish tones began to take a brighter shade around the tip of Diluc’s ears, almost matching his hairtone.

“Just curiosity,” Kaeya giggled, standing by Diluc’s side. Kaeya placed a hand over the top of his own head and moved it, hovering it just a couple of centimeters above Diluc’s. “Oh, I’m taller, indeed. I never noticed you were the smaller one…”

“S-so?” Diluc sighed annoyed, getting even angrier when he saw the way Kaeya looked at him. “It’s just… what? 2 centimeters? It’s not that much of a difference, it might even be thanks to the heels of your boots.”

“Well, brother, you see, 2 centimeters can make a lot of difference,” Kaeya teased, looking up to the tip of the tree. “Come on, let me help you ~”

“I don’t need your help,” Diluc insisted, determined to shut his brother by placing that damned star on top of the tree.

“Suit yourself.”

Kaeya watched carefully as Diluc tried to reach that spot again, holding the golden star with the tip of his fingers, barely keeping a hold on it. Almost there… so close… 

“G-gah!” Diluc squeaked when he felt a pair of hands holding him by his waist. He felt another electric shock spread across his body when fingers dug into the spot - with just enough pressure so they could get a grip on his body.

“Q-quit squirming, you’re kind of heavy, you know?” Kaeya grunted, nearly getting hit by a flailing limb. With some effort, Kaeya managed to lift Diluc, getting him high enough so he could reach the top of the tree. “Hurry up..!”

“I- agh, aham tr-tryihihing!” Diluc choked on a laugh, struggling to reach out and place the star when all the nerves on his body were telling him to press his arms down his body. His brother being Kaeya, Diluc couldn’t be sure if that… feeling was a mere accident or something planned. “S-stohop squeehezing me lihihike t-that, you- ahah- ack!!”

“H-hoh?” Kaeya gasped, still managing to pull a tease in a situation like this. Diluc’s squirming was making it harder to keep him high up, but Kaeya would rather have them both falling to the ground than lose a chance to provoke Diluc like this. “H-how can you be… heh, this ticklish being this… short?”

“I’m nohot!” Diluc groaned, hitting Kaeya’s leg with his heel (mostly because of how his leg flailed than because he wanted to). 

“You’re not what? Short or ticklish? Because it looks like you’re both” Kaeya squeezed Diluc’s waist again and a strangled laugh escaped his brother’s lips. Kaeya smirked. “J-just put the star over there, my arms are getting tired.”

“If you- ahah, f-fine!” Diluc groaned in defeat, grabbing the tree with one hand and pulling it closer. Finding it more difficult than it should be, at last, Diluc managed to place the golden star in place, quickly tapping his brother’s hand. “D-done! Put me down! Puhuhut me down!”

“As you wish, brother,” Kaeya said, lowering his brother back down until he could place his feet on the ground - safe and sound. “See? It wasn’t that hard, was it?”

Diluc breathed deeply, telling himself mentally this wasn’t the time to call Kaeya names and deciding that, just this once, he would let it slide… that, of course, under one condition. “One word about it…,” he threatened Kaeya - so brotherly-like of him.

“Huh? Or what?” Kaeya provoked him again, poking Diluc’s side and making him jerk away with a sharp gasp. “Come on, asking your big brother for help it’s nothing to be ashamed of…”

“Kaeya, no.” Diluc warned, wrapping his arms around his torso, “I’m serious. Kaeya, nohOHOH!! KahAHAHayea!”

5: [Harvest Moon]

Oh the tears of joy I wept when I finally got this even after the event... how could I not cry? Look at it! Kunikuni with a bunny! AND it's animated! tho ngl not a fan of the animation

Art and concept aside, it's part of the top 5 because it's actually pretty useful. Decent ATK, one-hit-kill + azure orbs to omni, not to mention its leader skill reduces turns for active skill? Pretty good!

4: [Doppo Poet]

A classic. His first SSR. But it really is good and I do use him a lot because of how strong his active skill is. 100% ATK and 100% marble force increase, and best part is it lasts for 3 turns! Not one I'd put as the leader definitely, but it's a great support for the rest of the team.

3: [Rainy Season]

The first smiley Kuni card I have would be the [Resplendent Banquet] - and imo it's STILL the cutest sprite and skill animation - but aside smile I have to give it to [Rainy Season] for giving us a beautiful, colorful, and amazing leader of a card. I ADORE the skill animation as well, but this card isn't ranked higher because the active skill isn't that great.

2: [Year of the Tiger]

I'm a big fan of the traditional stuff - better if it's got the traditional vibes like this one! The washed out colors, the composition of the main art, and just the overall concept is definitely in my taste. Another smiley Kuni (ofc) but more subtle and more of a proud type. I just LOVE this card because it has a great leader AND active skill. It's just not higher because I'm biased towards...

1: [Joyous Night]

This is my second SSR Kuni ever and it's still my favorite to this day. I gave nearly all my moons then JUST for the art (card change one) because LOOK. He's SMILING. He's HAPPY. He's got his HANDS in his POCKETS. He's HOT in his SUIT-

No but seriously as a concept plus the colors and composition of the main artwork AND the cute contented sprite - I just HAD to get it. Thank you Mayoi for blessing me with this AGH

The reason why it's also one of my all-time favs is because of its active skill. I'm biased towards high ATK (150%) increase + something else, and that something else just happens to be "piercing marble" effect which is super useful. You could finish two waves in just two turns with this one.

3: Fish- I mean [Vivid Color]

It's a strong SR. The leader skill isn't great BUT paired with other SRs its active skill is actually pretty decent. Also, fish.

2: Azure Ki- I mean [Tarot]

Honestly, the only reason why this ranks higher than Vivid Color is because the art is *chef's kiss* HAHA The active skill is meh but at least the leader skill is good!

1: Fish again- I mean [Enjoying Nature]

Great leader skill. Decent active skill. Man's about to enjoy his favorite hobby. Need I say more?

The three of them. I just like this piece, the colours are warm, Eugene and Rapunzel are being sweet. And the further we get into the fic the more Eugene hold Cassandra back from running into trouble.

She's just a problem like that.

But it is one of my favourite scenes from Two Tangled Sisters!

It's the moment that shows us that despite the neglectful mother these two girls grew up loved, by each other.

A big part of the fic is how growing up together changed BOTH of them. Rapunzel was less neglected, Cassandra receives a very honest and open form of love from her sister.

I just like this scene, what can I say?

Might have to redraw this sometime in the future.

Marmalade Moon Night!

Drawing scenes from fics pushes me to try more with backgrounds and I think this is a good example of this.

Not just because of the background which is pretty simple but also, the characters dressed in slightly unusual ways, Frederic with the art material, Arianna as a pirate and Cassandra with her bit of armour.

I also love how gentle Arianna is not only in how she holds Cassandra, but in that slight distance between them, which, Cassandra is leaning away, showing that's what she wants in that moment.

I just... I think this piece represents the scene well.

Plus, I love this fic. It's simple. Yet there's something so precious about Arianna and Frederic having different ways of enjoying holidays and being able to meet their daughter where needed because of it.

The camping scene!

Just... look at the fire! At Lance watching over his girls, at Frederic who isn't allowed to move and New Dream!

I like this. It's a scene from Within the Wall (The Queen's Sister), I'm happy with how it turned out.

Snow Day!

I need to draw the three of them in one scene more often cause I love for their S1 dynamic. Live for it.

And this piece just looks nice. I like the poses, they're not in movement, but they are dynamic. Each of them has their legs in a different position. I love how Cassandra balances on the railing, Eugene's arm around Rapunzel, they're just so sweet.

Another scene cause all my best pieces are scenes from my fic, I apologize, that's the way it is!

This was an epic scene and hey, although I never finished this piece, I do still love the texture, the lighting, and Rapunzel's hair!

I love these two, I love how they look together.

I love how Caine is very stiff cause she doesn't know how to flirt with Cassandra and is trying anything at this point.

I love how Cassandra just recoils away because "wtf Caine?"

They'll get there.

And finally, a New Dream WIP.

I just love this piece because of the composition, the lighting, and the facts it's a bit different.

I love the idea of other character holding the moonstone and they'd look like but it's easy to fall into the trap of just giving them the same armour as Cassandra.

Here I was mythology inspired, and it ended up in this piece where Eugene almost merges with the black rocks. And Rapunzel, of course, shines brightly, reaching up delicate for him.

Hopefully, I'll finish it eventually.

So yeah. Those are my fave pieces! Digital pieces.

21, 30, 7 hehe

21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways

Art styles that rely heavily on linework, or a solid ink kinda style, are SUPER cool. My usual style is 'glob of colors exploded haphazardly onto the canvas' so anything involving a lot of tiny detail ESPECIALLY with the lines makes me go heart eyes. I also really enjoy cartoony, exaggerated styles. I love love love super stylized facial expressions, they're SO fun.

Some examples of artists/artwork I really like and am inspired from:

Niccillustrates has a beautiful style that features solid, largely unshaded colors and gorgeous linework/inking, which is most obvious in their Undertale fan art. Seems like they've taken down a lot of their older stuff which is a shame, this piece is one of my absolute all time favorite inspirations of mine. The little lines in everything, especially the flowers...AGH!!! Here's a more recent work! The contrast is gorgeous and I adore the shapes in this so much.

Retroautomaton's art has this overall pleasantness and smoothness to it that makes me feel like I'm drinking a milkshake, but like in visual form. Here's a few pieces I especially like. The fluidity and sense of movement in the lines/figures along with the bright, poppy colors is just!!! so lovely!!!!

ArtsyDudeJude's pieces are so EXPRESSIVE!!! The way he really pushes facial expressions in particular is super inspiring - all his original character design stuff in general is tbh. I look at linework like his and go. man I couldn't do that but it looks SO GOOD. Here's some of my favorites!

Last one I swear but I wanna mention my pal Dana, RedEyesRetroDragon on here! The way she stylizes characters is SO fun and dynamic I love it a lot. I don't know barely a thing about ygo BUT I care these guys bc of Dana's art. PLUS her inking!!!! Holy woah! LOOK AT THIS PIECE!!! AND THIS ONE!!

30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated?

Hmm this is hard! Usually when I get reception on my art it's really kind and lovely and when I don't, I generally chalk it up to people just not being online/not seeing it at that time so I don't worry too much about it.

I suppose...since I draw a lot of fanart, it's easier for my original stuff to sort of slip by the wayside. So I'll use this one as an opportunity to gush a bit about this piece I did a little while ago!

People have left some really kind and sweet comments on it so I can't say it's underrated but it is my favorite original piece I've ever done. I felt clever about the caption because you can see it a few different ways - maybe 'taking form' refers to the canvas, reaching out and taking over the person. Or maybe the person is reaching IN, merging with the painting. Maybe the painting isn't taking form as in stealing, but taking form as in manifesting itself a human body. The possibilities are endless! Also I like the silly goofy expression here <3

OH AND WHILE I'M HERE. This piece is also not underrated but this was pretty cool too.

7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate

SO MANY!!!!! But the first one that comes to mind is photography! Photography is so cool and fascinating and while I don't think I could ever get /super/ into it, I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for the craft! A good photograph is SOOO satisfying to look at, like it's literally the art of composition and lighting!! How cool is that??

ALSO music!!! Gah I want to make my own music so badly!!! But there's SO MANY building blocks I'm finding it kind of difficult to learn. That said I have such an appreciation for people who make songs and sounds and things!! OH AND SOUND EFFECTS. EDITING. THAT'S AN ART TOO AND I LOVE IT.

Production work in general!!! To me it's art and it's beautiful and I want to be a part of it. If I could have any job in the world no questions asked, I would want to work in stage lighting. Concerts, theatre, idc, that kinda work is right up my alley. There's just something I adore about like, all the little details that go into making a production work that most people don't think about or notice because it's designed not to be noticed, but people still worked on it!!! People still put their time and effort and craftsmanship into it! <3 <3 <3

Hi sorry I'm thinking about this art again and just. Had to over analyze hope it's not annoying! I just really like this art. Just things that make me lose my mind.

The characterization is fucking perfect, first off. Very good Seri analysis.

The composition of that training sequence and the clap!

The butterflies when he meets Toichiro, but his umbrellas covering his eyes. But when the umbrella isn't covering his face, when he can see, Mobs there. And butterflies again with Reigen! Butterflies representing change! Agh!

3: My favorite incarnation of Zelda is BotW! Specifically BotW. I love her character arc, I love that she actually has an Interest, I love that she’s been the one actively keeping everyone alive for a hundred years. And I love how in fic we can flesh her out and treat her right in ways Nintendo did not see fit to do! Also how easily she can map onto modern AUs lol. Tetra is a close second!

22: My favorite incarnation of Link is TP! He was my first fictional crush (Nintendo put in those abs for a reason) but the real reason is just the sense of his character you get. It’s so easy to imagine his background as a kid raised by Ordon Village, to see how he loves and cares for the kids to the point of following this awful little imp’s every word for them, to see how he comes to work with and genuinely respect and then come so deeply to care for Midna. He is a character who cares deeply in general, and we as the player get to watch that sphere widen from the defenseless children he knows and loves, to the people he meets and works with along the way, to the entirety of Hyrule and the Twilight Realm. And again [slaps Link on the back] you can fit so much additional characterization into this guy!

36: For most engaging story, I’d have to say TP! As the most cinematic LoZ game to date, I’d say that’s pretty expected, but the narrative arc in it is truly so good

41: My favorite ocarina song is probably….agh this one is so hard! Especially OoT’s all slap. So I will give myself two. For as originally composed: the Song of Storms! I love the melody, I think the hurdy-gurdy man was such an interesting thing for Nintendo to come up with, I love the windmill in general, and I like rain! For fan re-composition, the Minuet of Forest! Specifically this version by hylianensemble on youtube, where it is reimagined as a waltz. Thank you to the forever unfinished FFN fic from like 2017 that mentioned this piece in the authors notes lol
