Among his numerous awards are two Academy Awards received for his supporting performances in Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) and The Cider House Rules (1999). In addition, he has earned three Golden Globe Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a BAFTA Award. In 2000, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

I’ve been reading John Irving’s The Cider House Rules and let me tell you I have NEVER related to a character more than Dr. Wilbur Larch!
I’ll never be a Harvard educated physician, but huffing ether and ranting about the hypocrisy of the anti-abortion movement would absolutely be my jam if I were.
