Songs that remind me way too much of certain character or relationships in my TF Au’s and why part two
I literally heard this song like five seconds ago and I have the moral duty of talking about this song, because as I talked about Boulder’s shitty relationship with their mom, I must talk about the cute relationship between Heatwave and his dad, people:
I know this is supposed to be a sad love song but hell with it, love can be depicted of multiple ways and I’m a dear believer that platonic is as good and appreciated as romantic, and this song reminded me of that, not even for the lyrics but also for the soundtrack, this is a song that has lows and highs as life, it shows energy and also tranquility, despite it talks about something that didn’t worked, nonetheless, I’m not here because of the lyrics like in Boulder’s case, I’m here because of two things: my mom and the vibe, two thing that at the end will result in an entire justification of why I relate this song with, ladies, gentlemen and dears: Heatwave
I think is already obvious my mom is in part a big inspiration for some of my writings, both the good and the bad, and in this case is the good
Earlier this evening we were doing something and she mentioned she wanted to watch a series about an artist, but didn’t wanted to because the artist reminded her of her dad, who died 20 years ago more or less, he wasn’t the best of men but she loved him a lot and was her inspiration too and her dearest person in the world, and believe me, she loved him so much that because of her anecdotes I thought he was a good person, only to finally see at the end of the day everyone is not black or white but grey, and yet she told me mostly the parts he loved about him, and not, is not Frank Sinatra, but the song made me remember that, a song can remind you of someone and that has a lot of power on the soul
Heatwave used to call him Big bot or Bigger because it was normal to call a bot by their name even when is your mentor, but this bot also named himself Heatwave time ago, and Big bot used to call Heatwave Little one, even when Heatwave wasn’t a sparkling anymore, he was a common bot from Kaon who dedicated to fix everything he could by a nice price but his main job was as electrician in the mines, he fixed the lamps, the comm links and everything that worked with electricity down there, which as expected, took part of his arm and had to replace it with a claw, he was most of the time a nice bot, and the times he had to be scary or was angry could be counted but he had his reasons, because yes, he loved his little guy way too much, and wanted to protect him at any cost
Maybe the way I introduced him in The perks of parenthood No. 1 wasn’t the best, but that fic was made to show the flaws of the bots while learning to parenting and from who they got them, his main flaw was that he wanted to keep Heatwave safe from the world all the time, but Heatwave was way too curious to let that happen, he was a bot that sacrificed some things to always be present for Heatwave and yet he took the duty because he knew it was the right thing to do, but I hope you also remember his attitude in the cancelled fic about the rescue team’s fan child’s traveling time adventure and in Life of Rescue Bots Shenanigans part 21, which are the two fics I show how is his normal attitude
And yes, Heatwave loved him A LOT, the bigger bot was like a life guard in the middle of nothing, not just by showing love but by protecting him and also by teaching him most of what he knows now and his favorite part: support, because little bot Always found support and love in big bot
The reason why I compare this song to little bot, to our Heatwave is because the main hobby of big bot was music, he was music nerd and that became a deep and beautiful part of both, thing they both shared, little bot knows how much big bot loved music
When little bot heard this song he was sure it was a song big bot would had enjoyed, it was sentimental, full of passion and love
But also because of dreams, the song is about a man who walks the world alone because the person he loved wasn’t there to see him fulfill his dream
Big bot died before little bot got accepted at academy, he never saw him graduate or take his first mission or how he became Sigma-17 leader, neither he saw little bot’s new life at Earth with his siblings and his partner and fellows
Big bot couldn’t see any of that
And Big bot also had a lot of dreams that he couldn’t make true, so little bot made all of it real for it, but yet he was alone
Now little bot walked alone only with the memories of the love both had for each other, and all the dreams they had together, they wanted to see the world, to see the lights of the city and the real stars, to actually see and live how was life outside of the mines, they wanted to eat the whole world together, but life works on mysterious ways, because of tensions between the government and the people, Heatwave’s colony was targeted
If you wonder what happened, I put hints of it on the Life of Rescue Bots fanfic on my Ao3, but to resume it, the colony was bombarded, almost made ashes, little bot did as much to get his fellows and friends out of the colony, even big bot, but he wasn’t alive when they got out of it, and little bot’s extra arms also were severely injured
At the end of the day, Heatwave had to fulfill all their dreams alone, walking the world they knew, alone
And as a citation:
And every bright neon sign, turned into stars
Sometimes, when the lights went off back on the colonies and the stars were visible, little bot used to confuse the light of the stars with the lights of the city
And the sun and the moon seemed to be ours
It was hard to see both sun and moon down there, so, time to time, big bot and little bot went to the highest place possible only to see the sun set and the moon appear, and little bot wondered if they could go there one day, big bot knew that was impossible, but didn’t wanted him to get sad about it
Each road that we took turned into gold
But the dream was too much for you to hold
Big bot tried, but the attack ended in a terrible emergency that he couldn’t resist more
Little bot really loved big bot as a father, he was a father, his father, the one which shared his dreams and emotions, his love for life and his characteristic sympathy, and after all, his love for both life and people, even with Kade
And yes, most of Heatwave’s variants also had a relationship like this
Except SG Heatwave, that bastard didn’t even met big bot, same with the Heatwave of From Stars and Above, he was created like that
But yes, Adventure Bot Heatwave also had his own big bot
From 13 Primes Au also had him
Outlier Heatwave didn’t, that’s one of the reasons he’s so overprotective with his siblings and reserved
Now you learned about Heatwave’s dad, and why I’m a dear believer that Heatwave is actually full of love, he’s just a grumpy pal

listening to that part in "love in paradise" where calypso is trying to talk odysseus down from the ledge really highlights her selfishness. in the song, she's talking over him, and he has to yell over her voice ("all i hear are screams.") she constantly refers to herself, saying "i love our time here, life would be so much worse if you had died" showing that she cares less about his trauma and more about what would happen if he were to die - she would be alone again, and that is her primary concern. she's indifferent to his misery, but steps in because she can't have him dying. and i think this fact is made even more telling by making her accidentally re-traumatize him with phrases like "open arms." she's actively harming him in her attempts to console him, because it's not his happiness she wants - just his presence.
#love in paradise is probably in my top five songs from this musical#anyway i think calypso is an interesting character (not defendable though lmao)#epic the musical#odysseus#odysseus epic#epic the musical calypso#calypso epic the musical#epic the wisdom saga#epic the musical odysseus

I didn't see anyone mention this, but in 'I'm not sorry for loving you', when Odysseus says 'I love you' to Calypso, I don't think he's being nice to her, but on the contrary. I think he's trying to hurt her.
It doesn't makes sense that Odysseus would say that to her, unless he knows that's the best way of getting revenge on Calypso. He gives her hope, just for a moment, and you can see the excitement on her voice, before breaking her heart and leaving to never come back.
Odysseus was never going to say goodbye to her, SHE is the one who goes to the beach to talk to him one last time.
And Calypso, who until this point has been sinning about how she doesn't regret falling in love with him, suddenly changes after he tells her 'But not in the way you want me to'. She hates to be in love with him now, she regrets it, not only because she knows that Odysseus is never going to love her, but also because is the first time Odysseus is able to hurt her.
After all, this is the Vengeance Saga. Odysseus starts by getting revenge on Calypso, the goddess that keep him away from Penelope for years, and he choose the most effective method; and the saga ends with him getting revenge on Poseidon, but this time with physical torture.
Odysseus is smart, he doesn't say that just because, he tries to hurt his enemies, Calypso is just a different monster, one that he can't defeat in a combat or by rejecting her, but by letting her know that he's never going to love her, no matter what, and he's always going to fight to leave her side.
#the vengeance saga#also calypso's song is very victim blaim#'sorry you can't handle ME and MY LOVE but I'm not the problem ans I'm not sorry'#i don't think jorge would make her such manipulative and have odysseus tell her 'i love you' in return#yeah she's a victim but also a monster and odysseus should get as far away as he can#but she's such a good character#calypso#epic the musical#odysseus

I love. LOVE. Get In the Water
It's one of the objectively best songs in the musical; I will die on this hill.
Poseidon was always, despite being pretty much the main antagonist of EPIC, a really underdeveloped character in my opinion. He just needed a little more nuance, and the fact that one (+ kind of one more) song managed to add so much to his characterization pretty much exclusively through subtext and implications is incredibly impressive writing. Because it did!
At the start, he's yet again playing games with Odysseus, the way he did in Ruthlessness. In both songs, he could kill him easily at any point, yet he chooses not to for the sake of playing games. In Ruthlessness, this becomes his own hubris as it leads to Odysseus escaping.
If you listen closely, at the start of GITW he already sounds slightly different. He's still trying to keep up this "God of Ruthlessness" front that he's so proud of, but he's no longer more or less carefree the way he was in Ruthlessness. He's been obsessing over this feud for ten years, and even if he would never admit it, it's actually clear just from his voice that he really is tired of it too. Not in the sense of it emotionally draining him the way it probably does Odysseus, but in the sense that it's a bother, a loose end in his life, a book that he finally wants to slam shut.
But he still has a reputation to uphold, and he still cannot close this book until Odysseus is dead, so he keeps up the game. Instead of just killing him, he's taunting him to kill himself. He might associate the idea of just striking him down with a sort of loss, like then he'd have to get his hands dirty. Then he's rambling about killing his people, his family. He's provoking Odysseus on purpose, likely trying to get him to snap back, to hate and fear him the way that Poseidon would think any mortal who has consumed this much of his time should. In his eyes, Odysseus deserves nothing less than to curse him with his last breath as his "darkest moment," the god who became the bane of his life.
And Odysseus replies, of all things, with ... sympathy.
Honestly, I don't blame Poseidon for being speechless for three full seconds. He literally just threatened to gauge Telemachus' eyes out the way Odysseus did with Polyphemus, and this absolute madlad of a man replies with an acknowledgment that he (might have) caused Poseidon pain too.
Now, I don't really think Poseidon was particularly hurt over Polyphemus' loss, or hurting in any way in that moment (if he were, I highly doubt he'd still be playing games, and he would've mentioned his son as opposed to speaking about his reputation.) But just the fact that Odysseus acknowledges that he might be hurting too is probably something Poseidon hasn't heard in ... who knows how long? His family is the Olympians. I don't think I have to say more.
It's actually more of a genuine apology than Odysseus' explanation in Ruthlessness ... (even though that was also a perfectly fine apology by Greek standards, as far as I'm aware.) Now he doesn't say "sorry" because he's still not sorry for hurting Polyphemus, since he still needed to do that in order to escape. But he expresses regret over the pain he caused in a more genuine way than ever.
I am convinced that Poseidon is utterly unfamiliar with sympathy or mercy. He's lived by his "Ruthlessness is mercy" motto for centuries, and he doesn't know anything else. No one would try to teach him something different. The other gods all live by this logic, even if he's the most vocal about it considering he seems to have made it his whole personality. Mortals wouldn't dare to question Poseidon in the first place. And barely anyone would be willing to treat someone with kindness who is in turn treating everyone around them with ruthlessness.
It's very likely that Poseidon hasn't encountered anyone like this until Odysseus. Ruthlessness is simply how he treats people and also how he expects to be treated back. The fact that Odysseus doesn't, the fact that instead of hating, fearing, or cursing him, he acknowledges that they have both hurt each other and that it doesn't lead anywhere to still pursue vengeance, must have triggered Poseidon in an unprecedented way.
To him, this was probably the most outrageous thing Odysseus could have said in that moment. And it throws him off so much that he is genuinely speechless, and then simply replies, "I can't." ... his most genuine-sounding line in the whole musical.
I cannot stress enough how much it threw me off to hear this line; in the best way imaginable, it doesn't sound like Poseidon. It sounds almost vulnerable. Almost human. Because he is genuinely at a loss so much that he forgets to put up his "wrathful god" facade for just one second. Standing ovation to Steven Rodriguez for his whole performance, but especially this part.
And then Odysseus goes all out to say something even more outrageous: "Maybe you could learn to forgive?"
... Which is when Poseidon snaps.
Kind of understandable, honestly. There's this mortal whom he has likely fantasized about seeing pleading, hate-filled, and terrified, cowering before him for ten years now ... telling him that he ought to learn something. Even hijacking his own motif and his instrument in order to turn it on its head, "defile" it if you will.
This f*cking mortal pr*ck took his own "Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves" catchphrase and turned it into forgiveness ... Of course, Poseidon is no longer hesitating; of course, he is no longer concerned with getting his hands dirty or not. He yells "DIE!" and unleashes his ultimate move (which is really overkill for simply killing a mortal if you think about it) ... But he does it anyway because this time he genuinely means it.
... That, and I am also convinced he jumps to that in order to simply shut Odysseus up, fearing what he might do or think if he lets him go on. Because you cannot tell me that Odysseus didn't actually reach him for just one moment. He was far too thrown off guard, far too vulnerable in that one second. That moment of kindness did something to him, and he hated it. He also probably didn't trust himself to be able to keep listening to Odysseus speak like that. So, he abandons his (still very technically feasible!) blackmail/intimidation and just straight-up kills him.
This simple exchange (my favorite moment in the whole musical, actually) tells us so much about both of these characters that it makes me want to skitter and squeal in excitement.
Here is Odysseus—the very same one whom Poseidon specifically tried to teach ruthlessness—becoming the first person in a long time to offer him sympathy despite how Poseidon himself showed him nothing but ruthlessness. And then one song later, here is Odysseus showing him the consequences of not accepting said sympathy.
Six Hundred Strike and what Odysseus does to Poseidon would've not hit the same, in my opinion, if he hadn't made this offer, if he hadn't given Poseidon this way out, even if no one watching genuinely expected it to work (probably not even Odysseus himself.)
Six Hundred Strike is not Odysseus exacting vengeance If GITW proved anything about Odysseus, it's that he does not want vengeance. He wants all of the hatred and pain to be over, to the point where he is willing to let go of, and I am inclined to say forgive Poseidon for what he's done to him. Six Hundred Strike is simply Odysseus teaching him this lesson that Poseidon couldn't have learned in any other way, because he has proven in GITW that he genuinely does not speak any language besides that of ruthlessness (more on that in this essay!)
It's just the perfect representation of how Odysseus has now finally learned the balance between mercy and ruthlessness, which seems to be the core theme of the musical: Both have their time and place; one simply has to be willing to act in both ways and know when to use either. No one extreme is the solution. I am genuinely exhilarated that Odysseus finally seemed to have figured out that it's been both all along.
#this is easily one of the objectively best songs in the musical#god games is similarly great in subtle characterization#and thunder bringer is a lyrical masterpiece#those are definitely the top 3 if we go by objective quality alone#no i will not shut up about this moment ever#i love it so dearly#the CHARACTERIZATION man#i went from being annoyed by poseidon to dearly loving him as a character#is he my second favorite god now? maybe#inhales IT DOESNT MATTER HOW GOOD THE CHANCES OF IT WORKING WERE#ODYSSEUS GETS ALL THE CREDIT FOR TRYING TO LEAD FROM THE HEART#i will die on this hill#epic musical#epic the musical#epic the vengeance saga#get in the water#epic odysseus#epic poseidon#jorge rivera herrans#you mastermind#I'm gonna make a tag for these my epic essays#If you want more search on my profile for >#epicssay

Songs that remind me way too much of certain characters or relationships in my TF Au’s and why (from Life of Rescue Bots to… well, all the Au’s that came after that) part 1
Yeah, boiiiiii! Reviving the song saga I started with 13 Primes Au and never finished
I made this out of pure boredom instead of writing the fanfics but is way more better than just watching and brain rotting with youtube shorts until one AM so here we are, and also I can use this as a way to explain some things I don’t talk enough about the Au’s characters and other things
Now, let’s begin👇
O Superman by Laurie Anderson
After hearing this song was made like, a literal joke and to critique the US military and how people got too comfy with it to protect them, I was first not going to put on it, but with that on mind, and later saw soo many mentions of “mom” in the song, plus the synthetic voices that sounded like fucking ghosts and saw the song was also open to interpretation, my head made a blow and I could only think of ONE name: Boulder
I’m pretty sure we all have this vision of Boulder being the cute and good gal of the team, but that made me wonder even more: how was their life before the team, before Griffin Rock, or even before Rescue, Boulder was an engineer in essence, because of it and some songs later I made long time ago a now scrapped Spanish fic that actually talked about that, about their family meeting their actual family on Griffin Rock, which put their patience at the highest, thanks to it I came with many ideas of backstory, in resume of it and analyzing the song I came with a conclusion and a fair explanation: No actual Boulder in the Multiverse had a good relationship with their mom (way of saying it), and I’m serious
If you remember an Adventure Bots Au one shot fanfic I made time ago (maybe not) named Never practice magic again, there’s a female character who reads Boulder’s rejection letter, she doesn’t say anything, just reads it and looks at Boulder with deception, in Outlier Au there’s NO mention of her, in Life of Rescue Bots Au, there’s no signal of her either except in Life of Rescue Bots Au Shenanigans Part 21 and 22, and in the cancelled fanfic I made about the Rescue Team’s fan child’s, also in The Perks of Parenthood No. 3, and if you read everything I just mentioned, you’ll see she is… not the best of people
Her name was Fortress, and to make this more ironic, she was a high ranked military bot, she was not just the one with the best aim and the best soldiers, she was also a good commander and a dedicated kill machine if necessary, when I created the character she was a good bot, not the best of mothers but neither the worst, nonetheless as I was doing the scrapped fic I mentioned before, I noticed several thing that made her actually not the best of people actually, she was extremely autobot, not like Optimus, but like IDW Sentinel, she was fiercely and smart, calculating and cold, and what first started as angst for the plot’s sake became an entire new concept for me, when I created the Shenanigan 21 and 22 was because of cope mechanism, I made them both in two or three night wanting to breath and tell my own problems, and don’t mistake me, I love my mom a lot, but in certain point, I put part of my mom in Fortress, the rage part of her to be exact, Fortress is NOTHING like my mom, but she can be like Fortress sometimes when she’s mad or angry, and what started as a joke and a cope mechanism became an entire new background when I mix it with the first versions of Fortress, I made her cold and unkind by accident, but it suits her a lot, because when I made her, I made her an extremist exterminator without even noticing, her literal plot in the scrapped fic was about she trying to get Heatwave’s forgiveness because she was responsible for Heatwave’s dad death and most part of Heatwave’s colony destruction.
After thinking seriously of this character and how she clashed so much with Boulder, their little adoptive sister, Daydream and their dad, Gear, I decided her new backstory should be very similar but not THAT similar, she was a commander who died during the autobot-decepticon war, she was conjuxed with Gear and mentored two adoptive sparklings, Boulder was the first one, Daydream was the second one, but things became hard with Gear, she was a really proud bot, almost impossible to comprehend and please, and later Gear and Fortress separated, which for Boulder was like a cold rain, Boulder was a bot that was raised in instability, and Fortress was too much both overprotective and exigent, which made Boulder get lots of mixed feelings about her, mostly hate towards her, practically breaking contact when Boulder moved on out of there, also breaking contact with Daydream, who liked a lot but not enough, Gear was still something to them, he was an engineer too and Boulder learned everything about him, but later he died too, for long time Boulder was alone, and also full of hate, towards the world and towards everyone, and to became rescue bot was their way to escape that hate, to think they can do more to protect the people, that’s why Boulder decided to be kinder and to smile more, making friends on the way and meeting then meeting sigma-17
Basically, Boulder is kind for election, not because they were made like that, and in part is because one of their biggest fears is to become like Fortress
O Superman is told to be like a one sided conversation, full of based poetry, but the main metaphor is how the mom figure is nothing but the dependence on tech and military force, which was what Fortress meant to Boulder
The whole song felt like if Boulder was describing the ghost of Fortress on their back, and how much Boulder needed her and yet she did nothing, is a prayer for her to be what they needed but never was, Fortress never saw what Boulder truly was but Boulder did, she never was present and she paid the consequences with Boulder’s hate, specially when she made like it wasn’t her fault but it was, and she took everything she could out of Boulder’s spark until it was just a damn big void it took them a lot to heal and close
But the void is still there, and is what reminds Boulder each day not to be like her
And as a little citation:
‘Cause when love is gone, there’s always justice
She never gave real love, but at least she was fair, with them and with Gear
And when justice is gone, there’s always force
Before Daydream came and the fights became louder, Fortress started to be more critical
And when force is gone, there’s always mom
But at the end of the day, the song never talked about a real mother, but about how the people saw military force as a protective mother as a reference to “the motherland” it talked about patriotism, not about love, the same patriotism Fortress expressed to her planet, but not to her family
This song never was about love
And when I think of Boulder each time I hear this song, I can only think of hate, regret, rage and abandonment
Because that’s what Boulder always thought about Fortress, that was the only thing they could see on her
In any of the Au’s I made this far, despite I can change lots of things, I can’t change Boulder’s view about Fortress, because I never made Fortress a good mother
I never made her see it was enough, and Boulder was too tired and damaged to change that, same happened to the Boulder of 13 Primes Au and Rescue Prime
In Outlier Au, Boulder lives and IS on their own, alone, because not even their team seems to actually care much about them
In Adventure Bots, Boulder never talked about her and tries to forget her, that’s one of the reasons why AB Boulder is so serious and unhappy compared to LoRB Boulder
SG Boulder was constantly used as a tool, as a kill machine, but always a fail because was “way too soft” and that was because of Fortress too
And is constant, and that’s the reason, and that’s the why I compare Boulder to this song
And also you learned about Fortress and Gear

The way Odysseus sings “No more of us deceased, cuz we won’t take more suffering from you” and then in the next song sacrifices six men is wild.
I like to think that he would’ve found another way but Eurylochus chose that moment to reveal that HE was the one who opened the wind bag, sending them to Poseidon and subsequently away from Odysseus’ family, that HE was the one who betrayed Odysseus’ trust. And I think that had a hand in why Odysseus, after the song Monster and Suffering, where he proclaimed he would be a monster to all but his own, and then suddenly Eurylochus wasn’t his own. And if he couldn’t trust Eurylochus, his brother in arms and second in command, who could he trust?

“deep down you hide a reason for shame”
Eurylochus shameful that he’s the one who opened the bag while Odysseus was asleep. Odysseus hiding the fact he knew what would happen in Scylla’s lair.
“deep down you know that we are the same”
Eurylochus wanting to escape Circe’s island with Odysseus and leave the rest of the crew behind, letting them die by being eaten as pigs. Odysseus leading six men to their deaths by intentionally handing out six torches. Scylla has six heads
“leaving them feeling betrayed, breaking the bonds that you’ve made”
Eurylochus betraying Odysseus as a second in command (and friend) by openly doubting him and opening the bag when expressly told not. Odysseus breaking Eurylochus’s trust as a captain by leading his crew to the lair and sacrificing six men, six friends, one of them being Eurylochus (until another member of the crew pushes him out of the way and sacrifices themself)
“there is no price we won’t pay”
Odysseus pays the price of Eurylochus choosing to mutinize (and kill the cow) in an attempt to save himself and the crew (the latter although reckless and basically an unintentional death sentence being done so they all wouldn’t starve). Eurylochus (and the crew) pays the price of Odysseus choosing to save himself when Zeus arrives.
“we both know what it takes to survive”
Interestingly, during the mutiny Eurylochus and the crew chose not to kill Odysseus (at least not in the moment) and even bandaged his wounds that they inflicted while he was unconscious to prevent him from bleeding out. In that moment, they chose to show mercy. However, there is no mercy on Odysseus’s end when Zeus tells him to make a choice. There is only ruthlessness done out of desperation, as the only person Odysseus chooses to show mercy to is himself.
Both know exactly what it takes to survive, as Odysseus voice shakes with despair knowing what he’s about to do while Eurylochus, soundly sadly resigned, accepts his fate. There is a brother’s final stand coming to its end and both know it. And they know only one of them will make it out alive

Stared into the wall for like 5 minutes and had a crazy vision (more like "hear"sion lol) of an extended version of Just A Man
Everything stays the same but after the second stanza (at least I think it's the second,,, after "How could I hurt you?") there were 2 more stanzas (more quiet, the main one is still "just a man motif") of Eurylochus and Polites, with their own melodies blended in the main soundtrack (much like Odysseus' "will these actions haunt my days, every man I've slain"; the lyrics change depending on the character)
And the third stanza instead of just Odysseus singing there was something like:
"I'm just a man (Ody), who's trying to go home (all three; main voice is still Ody's)
Even after all the years (O) away from all I've known (all three)
I'm just a man (O) who's fighting for his life (all three)"
And then "deep down I would trade the world..." was just Odysseus but my brain inserted an insane voice crack in there
Ensemble followed as usual without changes.
Hope this makes any sense at all :D
#of course this would only do as a bonus track for those who are already familiar with the story and characters#i just have a very vivid imagination and headphones in ears like... chronically#and i want poli and eury to get more screentime#maybe those two additional stanzas would make following songs with them both more impactful idk#i cant even pretend to claim levels of genius our mr jalapeño has#but anywayyy#epic the musical#epic the troy saga#the troy saga#epic odysseus#odysseus#epic polites#polites#epic eurylochus#eurylochus

Um. Care to explain what you mean by "some people"? Because so far the only people I've seen have legitimate issues with Hold Them Down have been SA survivors. And ngl, you sound a little victim blamey.
I'm blaming that one person on TikTok who believes Jorge Rivera-Herrans is problematic bc he included a topic of SA in a song about a myth that has SA
My problems are not that the person is a victim, bc genuinely what they have gone through is awful and I would never wish that on ANYONE. My problem is that they don't seem to understand that the Odyssey has some very uncomfortable topics in it and it's not an invention of Jorge to include it in "Hold Them Down". My problem is that they believe that it was made up so we could feel bad about Penelope. My problem is that they believe such inclusion makes Jorge a bad writer and that he should never write music again
It's quite literally aimed at nobody else, just at that one person who does not understand it was in the og myth and Jorge did a best of a job he could at depicting such a thing respectfully
#i also expressed my issues with hold them down in that post#it's a great song but it makes me very uncomfortable#which is the point#most people understood that was the point#it's that one person who just. doesn't seem to get it??#and that doesn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to write female characters. that's bs#it's not victim blaming#it's pointing out that we all knew what this song was about beforehand#there were snippets posted ages ago#this person also didn't seem to have a problem with “love in paradise” or “thunder bringer” or “legendary” where it was also implied#that's all i was doing#epic the musical#hold them down#epic the ithaca saga#ithaca saga
