I'm trying to pick a major that I would be the most interested in just because it would make my life so much easier and right now I have like three ideas and they all have a million problems
#like bioengineering. that sounds great right#id make good money with even just a bachelors degree#but i dont want to be stuck with that my whole life. that doesnt sound fun to me and engineering is supposed to be a miserable major#AND MINOR#and its a relatively new field so not a lot of places near me have it. and the places that DO have it are crazy expensive#i want to get a degree in linguistics because thats something that sounds fun to me. i would enjoy that#im good with english and language#but what can i really do with a linguistics degree? and im not good at learning other languages so i couldnt be an interpreter as much as i#would enjoy it#i kind of want to go for theatre tech stuff but. idk there arent really any buts but is that really realistic for me? i stopped doing tech#in freshman year because people were kind of mean. im a quitter and theyre not going to like that and i havent done anything related#in so long so really what are the chances i get accepted for that#i know people who tech for bands make pretty good money and they have fun#i lied theres four#i could do geology something but thats broad and also the best school for it in the state is UF.#im NOT going to UF. i would rather die. its a personal grudge. also they suck and barely accept anybody even though the school SUCKS AND IT#SO EXPENSIVE FOR NO REASON#i wanted to do marine bio two years ago but theres soooo many problems with that. including ticks#I HATE TICKS#“but joel. isnt it MARINE science? there arent ticks in the ocean” YOURE WRONG. love how there are pretentious video essays that just repeat the book and meander and ramble about house of leaves. it's what zampanó would have wanted. it is not, however, what I want
#anyway i finished the main portion of the book#all i have left is the poems and a few other small things i think? ive read pelafinas letters#im thinking of getting the full book of her letters#but also they severely messed with my head so we'll see#i will say. i do get why ppl say the book is pretentious and frustrating#there was a lot of stuff where i couldnt tell if it was supposed to be satire or if it was genuinely just that dense and pretentious#and a lot of the codes were rly obtuse imo?#like... idk. some of them were super obvious like the sos stuff or pelafina outright saying what to do#but others like. man how am i supposed to know johnny waxing poetic about pussy was coded#i mean that one is also pointed out though much later but i know i missed a lot just like it that werent pointed out#and ive heard theres a lot of shit where the message you get is just danielewski????? which gonna be real. kinda dumb.#but i did also really enjoy the book#there was a lot of stuff in it that was just so compelling or poignant or whatever other word#the minotaur stuff is good (ofc id say that though i love me some minotaur themes)#also a lot of the scenes with johnny just...... christ#idk how ppl say to skip them hes so fascinating#yeah i could do with him talking about his possibly hallucinated sex life a bit less but also his story is just plain interesting#i still think about the part where the girl he was talking to runs over a dog they had picked up........ it was fucking chilling#and his hallucinations of dying are so descriptive in just the right way to get under my skin#the uncertainty with him and his family..... did pelafina try to kill him? did his father just send her away for being a bit too overbearin#over an accident? was there something else? what was the deal with his foster family? with lude? gdansk man and kyrie?#how did it get published? who are the editors? why did the band know of the book before it should have been published?#why does his journal section end with a story from a man he admits to making up completely? the doctor from seattle doesnt exist#the chronological end is more hopeful with him saying things will be okay but then he puts a previous entry after that?#i think the burning of the book parallels the story nicely#johnny said his piece; he nurtured the book as much as he could; but it was hurting him and he had to give up on it#idk!#this book does make me feel a lil dumb ngl

the most fun thing about being under the trans umbrella is the name changes . whenever i make posts about me i would use "stories with asher" but now my names emmett . its actually so much fun bc i can see how long ive been on here . i dont remember the last time ive used the name asher but i still kept using it as my tag . no clue why but i kept it there . my first name was eren, then it was 2020 and i went down the noun for name rabbithole and it was fern, then i went to asher, then i started going by em in school (closest to b.n.) now im emmett because my friend grace started calling me emmett for fun and it sticked ! sometimes ill see friends who havent seen me in years and they'll call me asher and its HILARIOUS because its like a war flashback. i was crazy emo when i went by asher and now im fun and colorfull and silly and a major nerd! also i was obsessed with the lego movie as a kid and LOVED Emmet (first fixation) so . basically my life has made a full circle ! yay

#srry for rant i had to get it out there#sharing it with the class#its just . so fun#whimsical even#and whats even better is that life is great for me rn!#i finally have free time to hang out with my friends (marching bands over)#i convinced a middle schooler to join marching band as a mellophone!#adding to that#they liked the mellos vibe SO MUCH that me and my right hand man are meeting them at our local smoothie place to hang out#and teach them about marching band!#and!! we finally found out why i get so dizzy and pass out! we tested my blood sugar and came out with the conclusion that im#drumroll que#HYPOGLYCEMIC!#yay!!#like obviously not happy that i have it#but definitly glad we finally know whats wrong with me#also i think i forgot to mention that we met the middleschooler because 1) theyre friends with my brother whos in the same grade#and 2) it was a full marching band indoctrination of 8th grade band and orchestra kids#because our mb starts the summer before your freshman yesr#OH! and since the seasons over#symphonic orchestra is gonna start soon! its where the chamber orchestra(pretty much honors orchestra)#-and the most advanced band kids team up in an awsome afterschool extravaganza where we play awsome music#im first chair french horn in our wind ensamble(honors band lol) AND i was in it last year so im gaurnteed a spot!#im hoping the second horn (freshman who tried out for wind on trumpet but got in on horn) does good because the horns in the consert band...#theyre .. uhm... not the greatest.#we only have two horns in wind so im REALLY HOPING he doesnt get any horns from concert to play in aso#which he might do bc there was 4 horns last year#but also they were in wind#im just hoping he doesnt choose quantity over quality#emmett speaks!

things could always be worse. the shitty small band you started following ironically but accidentally got way too invested in could announce a collab with one of your genuinely great favourite small artists. i would know because it JUST HAPPENED TO ME
#when i say shitty small band i dont just mean their music btw#these people have been in so much drama in the time theyve existed (less than a year) including ripping off bigger creators#stealing music from former collaborators and people not even involved in the band#lying to people about album/song releases and deleting all their shit at random complete with a huge lack of transparency abt it#lying about being related (as in family) to way bigger creators so they can bag collaborations on songs#rebranding whenever they get called out on their bullshit and promising to change and then proceeding to do the same shit#and way more that i cant think of rn#so yeah im slightly bewildered and devastated at the fact that an artist i love who is super talented and unique and overall a good guy#is making a song with these dickwads#im assuming he doesnt know about how shitty they are considering theyve rebranded to a new name since their last huge drama#and have mostly managed to avoid backlash on the same level as before#but still 😭 hoping he gets tf out of there

It's always funny Almost completely relating to people's posts about being obsessed with a piece of media but it's clear they mean like a TV show or movie and are obsessed with one of the characters but for me it's literally always always with no exception some fucking band so it's not really the same but it does have the same completely all consuming effect on me
#i dont get obsessed with fictional characters ever but i do get fixated on some fucking guy from real life who makes music#which also means i dont really interact with the stuff im fixated on in the same way others who are primarily into fictional stuff seem to#be which is a good thing because it would be weird if i did but it means i can always ALMOST really relate but not quite#my version of making art of thing im obsessed with is sitting at my keyboard analyzing melodies and then crying a little but its fine#but yeah idk why but i have a difficult time getting obsessed with like a fictional piece of media ill enjoy it but it doesnt go farther#sometimes i latch onto characters somewhat where im like oh theyre me but its not the same#but um to be honest i think its cos i just dont really care unless its music cos music is kind of the only thing i get this excited about#ever !!!!! which is like . i mean its fine its just my whole life#like many people i can track the trajectory of my life based on whatever my months to years long specific media fixation was at the time#and like theres only been maybe 1 or 2 things that werent bands / musical artists#and then like as far as non media stuff goes music has just dominated my brain for basicslly my whole life except the only other thing that#comes close is linguistics/language learning which i think theres a LOT of parallels between the two so it makes sense#hm actually maybe 1 or 2 is low its definitely been more than that but the split of music and then non music stuff is like 80 to 20 percent

Oh, did I ever mention I wanted to start a band? I think I did. Probably. Ages ago. Anyway! We finally did it! We've got a place to practice (it's a place literally for [alternative] youth they are happy to have Us which means no rent and they even have equipment we can borrow it's great) and we finally met up and. It was so. much. fun.
Now we hadn't really talked about shit beforehand because idk it's super easy to get side-tracked but we managed to actually talk very little and cover one and a half songs in like. two hours. i mean it's not a proper cover but we do sound genuinely good together. ig it helps that all of us play instruments already and have played with others before so we know what that's like and we have a very solid understanding of music theory but. still. the only one who actually knows her instrument in the band is our drummer. BUT we STILL sounded actually good. it's so cool. it's SO much fun. my fingers are going to kill me
