Nicky started his Ballad of the Windy Road and these were the best times he had together with his mum, playing and creating together. The one time she had him use their private song to lure in more witches to kill, he refused to go along with it, because it tainted the special thing they'd made together.
The last thing they did before he died was sing the song aa a bedtime lullaby and his last words were Maiden, Mother, Crone. Probably the reason why Agatha chose that locket specifically as her most prised possession.
His lasting legacy for the world is that song, and she tainted it. Luckily, other artists in the world took inspiration from it to create something beautiful again, like Lorna Wu's gift to her daughter. Unlike Lorna, Agatha is likely ashamed that she made Nicky's song into something he would have hated. It's why she can't face him. (Ironically, Lorna's child still hated her for that song. That's mother/child relationships for you! It's complicated. It's what happens every time Billy and Agatha argue.)
Then Billy created a road from what Nicky had made. With Agatha's instructions at every turn, Billy added the rules to his road. So, in a way, Billy and Agatha walked the road and created it as they went along. The darkness that lies in both of them is likely what made it so deadly. That, and they summoned Death to the road in the first place.
I believe the road still exists, and what will be added to it are the legendary names: Sharon Davies, Alice Gulliver Wu, and Lilia Calderu. Seekers of the road will have to know their names to summon the door. Sort of like an X marks the spot sorta deal.

I'll See You at the End
You know how Rio says, "I'm sorry I don't have a ribbon for you to run through?" to Agatha when she finishes the Witches' Road?
I bet Lorna Wu had one for her daughter. Maybe Lilia's maestra too but i'm not sure she'd know that custom.

Agatha was actually humming the Ballad of the Witches' Road before Rio and Teen/Billy showed up in Agatha's life again.
The Agnes of Westview's Opening Credits because that version is purely Agatha's version. (Hexed!Agatha's version, I mean).
youtube
This is short and succinct, this is the longer version of the Ballad's credit music:
youtube
The Ballad of the Witches' Road (True Crime) Lyrics
Tumblr media
The interesting part of the True Crime version is that it's the shortest of all the versions of The Ballad.
But it makes sense because at this point Agatha as Agnes doesn't remember the full lyrics. And this version might have been inspired by Lorna Wu's version.
The only verse Agnes' True Crime version has are:
The road is wild and wicked Winding through the wood Where all that's wrong is right And all that's bad is good Through many miles of tricks and trials We'll wander high and low Tame your fears, a door appears The time has come to go
And its chorus:
Down, down, down the road Down the winding road Wherever it may bend I'll see you at the end
youtube
The Ballad of the Witches' Road (Lorna Wu's Version)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lorna's version is the longest of the Ballad versions. Probably because Lorna wanted to ensure her intention to turn the ballad into a protection spell becomes a reality.
"I'll see you at the end" seems to be Lorna's contribution among many other verses.
But also this verse:
"We're broken and we're burned But take a breath And dance with death My love cannot be turned."
And now the newest entry into the Ballad covers:
youtube
This is very much a cover of Lorna Wu's Ballad version by Japanese Breakfast.
Tumblr media
I don't have any insight for this version yet but... let's see what will happen in the next few episodes!

I thought we only had six versions of The Witches Road song from Agatha All Along.
True Crime version - Wicked Road
Sacred Chant version
Lorna Wu version (Glam Rock)
Coven cover of Lorna Wu version
Japanese Breakfast version
Instrumental version.
But wait! there is a seventh!
There's TWO versions of the Coven over of Lorna Wu's version.
The longer version (which wasn't played in the show) has a guitar rift and a verse the episode version doesn't have.
"The road is wild and wicked. Winding out of time. Still we face our fortune Chasing the sublime. What's lost is found. What's fierce is bound. We're broken and we're burned. But take a breath And dance with Death. My love cannot be turned."
That verse is not in the TV show cut. I checked.

Agatha All Along
No worries, no spoilers here.
My daughter and I finally finished watching Agatha All Along and I have to say, I freaking love the song!
youtube
Highly recommend listening. It's well written and well sung, honestly.
The series though? God. Wow. We were on the edge of our seats the whole time, in awe of just how wildly dark it got at times.
The last episode though? Oof. Made me cry, because an aspect of Agatha's life mirrored a part of my own and I just broke.
Well done, Disney. This is how to do the MCU.

All it's problematics aside, Agatha All Along seems like it could be THE show of the year, and I am obsessed with The Ballad of the Witches' Road.

AAA, Episode 4
Didn't love this one as much as last one. I think I don't like the 70s version of "The Witches Road" as much as the original. But it is nice that it was a protection spell for Alice. I just still want to know who cursed their family and why?
Confirmation that Rio was "just doing her job" (as Death) by taking Nicky. There's still more to this story though.
I''m interested to learn more about Lilia's power because sometimes it seems like someone is speaking through her (like hwen the lights flash in episode 2) and other times she blurts stuff out (and doesn't seem to know she said anything). I can see how that would get her trouble with normals though.
The Sigil seems to work similarly to the way Dr Strange erased Peter Parker, in that it also worked on the caster. But I don't think Agatha did it because she was under Wanda's spell the whole time. But it is possible she is trying to protect Teen from Rio (Death). Maybe she cast it during WandaVision? I dont' like the way Rio looks at him.
It's very rude of this show to set the Immortal Lesbian against the Tiny Gay. Can't we all just get along?
Also I support Jen's right to stay in the circle forever.
