Found something interesting for Pride and Prejudice fans relating to Elizabeth's takedown of Mr Darcy's perception of himself a gentleman.

I'm reading Thomas Fuller's 'The Holy State, and the Profane State' (published 1642 but this version republished in 1841 so the views were clearly still applicable) for a research essay, and in the chapter labelled 'The True Gentleman' he states:

He is courteous and affable to his neighbours … the truly generous are most pliant and courteous in their behaviour to their inferiors.

And of course, during the Hunsford proposal, Darcy has just objected to Elizabeth's family, she's called him out, and we get the iconic lines:

"Nor am I ashamed of the feelings I related. They were natural and just. Could you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your connections?—to congratulate myself on the hope of relations, whose condition in life is so decidedly beneath my own?" "You are mistaken, Mr. Darcy, if you suppose that the mode of your declaration affected me in any other way, than as it spared the concern which I might have felt in refusing you, had you behaved in a more gentlemanlike manner."

So Elizabeth drops that bomb just after he's been ungenerous and discourteous about her inferior relations... in direct contradiction of one of the rules of true gentlemanly behaviour. No wonder he can't rebut her words at all in the moment, even though Darcy later says "it was some time, I confess, before I was reasonable enough to allow their justice." He might not believe he's got a real problem yet, but there's been examples Elizabeth could call on from even during the course of their conversation too blatant for him to disagree with entirely!

And then later, obviously, he reflects and finds it's true he also hasn't been gentlemanlike in this and other ways in too many aspects of his life.

Full disclosure: the drop to London far below would make me giddy if the helipad weren’t, in fact, on terra firma (well, almost – it’s five feet off the ground) and tucked away on Wolf Studios’ backlot, where mavity is on our side. The weather less so. Cardiff is experiencing a heatwave this week. It’s uncomfortably hot. “That’s why I didn’t wear any trousers?” Ncuti will joke tomorrow. “Now it all makes sense!” It’s tomorrow’s bi-generation that’s the talk of the set. In the Make-Up tent, David Tennant’s hair stylist, Steve Smith, is giving us the skinny. “It’s a hell of an introduction, having the new Doctor Who spend half the episode in his underpants,” he says, cheekily. “Bi-generation gives me the heebie-jeebies,” confesses make-up designer Claire Williams. “The costume is halved! Each have bits of it. Ncuti has a shirt and tie, and socks and shoes, but he’s in his boxers.” “Oh, we’ve had many conversations about how long his shirt is,” Russell tells me later. “While absolutely checking Ncuti’s happy – we’d have doubled the suit if he wanted.” “And then David,” continues Claire, “has an under-shirt, a waistcoat, and trousers, but he’s barefoot.” “We do see David’s feet,” confirms Steve. “Tonight we’re giving him a pedicure.” Meanwhile, might Ncuti be getting his legs waxed for the occasion? “I’ve just spent six weeks on Barbie,” he’ll tell me tomorrow. “I’m used to being waxed.” Is that a… yes, then? “He’s dying his buzz-cut back to black today,” adds Claire. It’s been a bleach-blonde do for the past 12 weeks.

Cloudia Phantomhive's birthday (April 5)

The manga's most mysterious backside + side profile...

Cloudia Phantomhive was involved with a man named Cedric K. Ros- and had two children with him, Vincent and Francis. Though she is the grandmother of Vincent's and Francis' children, Ciel (at least) says that he does not know anything about her, apart from their relation.

Thus, he is stumped when he discovers that no other than Undertaker, old family friend (?) and deserted wayward Grim Reaper, seems to have known her - and that he even kept a mourning locket in her remembrance on his chain which he calls his "treasure."

Out of all seven lockets on Undertaker's mourning chain, Cloudia's is the most prominently featured, having been fully shown for the first time all the way in the Circus Arc (Chapter 35/Episode 46) - in 2009!

Cloudia's first depiction (see above) was in Chapter 15 in the Indian Butler Arc, released in 2007!

Further, in the manga and the anime, it seems that the revealed hallmarks (verification marks for noble metals; follow link for a more detailed explanation on the wiki!), belong to another locket, Alex B.'s.

A piece of concept art from Book of Circus Official Record shows the hallmarks next to Cloudia's locket, however. (Possibly by mistake.)

Since Cloudia's first sighting, many years have passed, and all we were given since then was the revelation that she had blue hair, another backside picture, her birth-and-death dates (April 5, 1830 to July 13, 1866), and even more questions.

Her mysterious prominence in Kuroshitsuji since the manga's early days as well as the fact that Mr. K stated that Undertaker's current - and future - actions constitute the "main axis" in the manga's Phantomhive family saga means that Cloudia's story will certainly be told one day. The question, of course, is when and, as always,...
