I absolutely love Legally Blonde (the musical). Elle is such a great character!!
The audience is introduced to her in such an amazing way, with her mathematically trying to figure out what to wear. ā€œIt may be perfect for a blonde, but Iā€™m not that blonde. I may be in love but Iā€™m not stupid, lady, Iā€™ve got eyes.ā€
Elle in general is so good. Sheā€™s so smart and sheā€™s legitimately the most interesting character to follow.
But!!! The best!!! Part!!! At the end of the musical, when she says sheā€™s leaving, Emmett confessing that he loves her isnā€™t what convinces her to stay. Instead, itā€™s the other female characters showing their support for her!!! The way the girls in this movie support each other!!! The ā€œGreek Chorusā€ is perhaps my favourite example, if only because theyā€™re so supportive of absolutely everything Elle does!!! Itā€™s so sweet!!! ā€œWe came to see our president be legally blondeā€? Best line, I love it, itā€™s so good.
But also, the romance between Elle and Emmett is so fucking good. Emmett supports her through absolutely everything. Emmett is such a great person, but also his musical cue is an oboe, which means Iā€™m biased to like him anyway-
ā€œThey laughed at me like theyā€™re laughing at you. We canā€™t win if we donā€™t follow through.ā€ ā€œThough itā€™s hardly my business to say, could it be the real thing in your way is the very man youā€™re trying to impress?ā€ ā€œBut I know itā€™ll all be worthwhile when I win my first lucrative trial, and buy my mom that great big house out on the cape.ā€ ā€œAs I hugged my mom and told her, with the chance Iā€™ve been given, Iā€™m gonna be driven as hell.ā€ All of Emmettā€™s lines are so good, all of his songs are perfect, Emmett is the best character ever.
I love the ending, when Elle proposes to Emmett. Itā€™s the character coming full circle. She begins the musical by planning an outfit that will be perfect for Warner to propose to her to; ā€œThis dress needs to seal the deal, make a grown man kneel, but it canā€™t come right out and say bride.ā€ ā€œIā€™ve got t leave Warner his pride.ā€ Sheā€™s fulfilling the stereotypical idea of the woman having to be proposed to. She canā€™t propose to him or look too desperate to be proposed to, because that will ruin his ā€œpride.ā€
Elle proposing to Emmett at the end shows such an amazing character growth. She knows she doesnā€™t have to fulfill the stereotypical female role in their relationship. She proposes in a room full of people, proving that she is no longer concerned with her partnerā€™s ā€œpride.ā€ She proposes by saying ā€œEmmett Forrest, please make me the happiest woman I know.ā€ She proposes in the stereotypical male style, but itā€™s so fucking sweet because Emmett is so excited and they just love each other so much-
But the best way to portray the character growth is two specific interactions. To set it up, the Greek Chorus mentions, in the very first song, that being married wonā€™t come between Elle and their ā€œsacred bond of sisterhood.ā€ Later in the same song, the Chorus sings: ā€œWe love you guys.ā€ And Elle responds: ā€œNo, I love you guys.ā€ Note that she specifically says ā€œI,ā€ because presumably, Warner doesnā€™t actually care all that much about them.
Now, in the finale, the Chorus repeats the line, this time to Elle and Emmett: ā€œWe love you guys.ā€ But, this time, Elle and Emmett respond together: ā€œNo, we love you guys.ā€
Emmett supports Elleā€™s interests to the point that she feels comfortable sharing them with him. She feels comfortable introducing her best friends to him and he actually likes them. It comes full circle. Elle finally has someone who supports her completely, just like she supports Emmett completely, they make each other happy. Itā€™s so sweet.
Also, itā€™s kinda funny because Emmett is Elleā€™s sugar baby-

ā€œthe class commentary in saltburn was shitā€ WHAT CLASS COMMENTARY???? NOT EVERY MOVIE WITH RICH PEOPLE HAS TO OR SHOULD HAVE CLASS COMMENTARY. EMERALD FENNELL KNOWS VERY WELL THAT SHE IS NOT THE RIGHT DIRECTOR FOR A MOVIE ABOUT CLASS COMMENTARY WHICH IS WHY SHE DID NOT WRITE A MOVIE ABOUT CLASS COMMENTARY.

One of the absolute best things about the bros is that they just. Play. They play around like the teens they are, playing ball, or video games, or anything else. They just play and have fun together, genuinely enjoying each otherā€™s company. I dunno, I just appreciate how easy it is for them to mess around and be kids.

I will thank HTTYD live action for one thing, and that's reviving my interest in this franchise like jumper cables to the heart.
Anyway, my controversial HTTYD take is that the second movie feels more emotionally mature, and it continues to resonate more with me the more I've grown into adulthood. It's the cautious optimism... It's the fact that you can't change everyone's perspective, and sometimes you need to fight for what you believe in... It's the fear of adult responsibilities that feel larger than life, only to realise that instead of running you have to try... It's the knowledge that the world may try and strike you down, but the bonds you've created will bring you strength in an uncertain future... do you feel me?

I'm trying to figure out how to get from What If's CCverse CATWS knock-off (which I hate and think is not only nonsensical but actively insulting to both CATWS and BW) to an AoU in that 'verse and I think it may be literally impossible because they cut the Hydra infiltration out of that 'verse.
(Bedlam, you hate CC, why are you thinking about it? --I'm considering doing some concept writing for the hypothetical Yonder sequel.)

I genuinely have no idea how many of you have seen "The Iron Giant" but *nonetheless* if by chance you have, please consider that movie but with Taylor as Hogarth, Cass as his mom obviously, Nicky as Dean, and agent Schmegan as agent Mansley.

#aotv spoilers#ok youā€™re asking for my opinions letā€™s do it#i love louis!!!! im so proud of him and im so happy i got to watch him on his journey for so long and canā€™t wait for whatā€™s to come for him#and i think my love for him and for his music and for my time in the fandĆm and for one d etc is what makes this a good watch and why i#liked it because otherwise i have my reservations to the movie and im not going to get into the babygate stuff#apart from the fact that louis trying to get freddie to hug him was extremely awkward and ive never seen less organic thing than the beach#scene and i find it funny they tried to push that as organic so hard#my issue is that it just had a potential to be a much better film is all sksmsk#it is good but it feels a bit rushed and kind of cheap in some ways and i get thatā€™s the style of these biopics sometimes but#like it was such a shame the bg music was not really gold and was always exaggeratedly emotional because it made it cheesy and cheap and#kind of forced#i think it would have a great potential to get many people to say wow this is a strong talented guy and i think it is a great intro but i#think they undersold the movie so itā€™s not going to have a chance to reach an audience much wider than his current fanbase which is a shame#for his current fanbase it is a solidification and reiteration of his promo season and it is very clear where they want louis to stand and#what they want his image to be like and i think itā€™s absolutely amazing how they managed to show his growth as an artist and as a human and#and place him in a position where heā€™s now confident and secure and ready to embark on a new journey etc. although for the fans thereā€™s#nothing new there and i think itā€™s worth considering how exactly theyā€™re portraying and that they completely left out his relationships#aside from his family and the band#i think itā€™s important that it was noted he was undersestimated and pushed down and i think they made obvious how much heā€™s worked on#himself#i think itā€™s kinda clear theyā€™re using it as a faith in the future promo with the new songs even though the doc ends with the end of the#tour#i think itā€™s interesting how many rainbow flags they chose to include without addressing the way his shows and fanbase look at all because#if i were from Gp id wonder whatā€™s up with that esp when he only acknowledged the kmm project again#generally i think itā€™s a good watch thatā€™s very transparent in what itā€™s trying to do for louis promo and image wise and it doesnā€™t tell#you anything new but it reminds you why you love this man so much while also leaving you a bit disappointed because this had a much#greater cinematic potential and a lot of it feels either rushed or underfinanced or forced and thatā€™s a shame

Yknow, instead of basing a lackluster at best character off a nazi, Coco could have been Chajka, based off the heroic Chajka Klinger, a jewish woman who was essentially a scribe of history
You can even keep the minibag machine gun considering the history of jewish women hiding guns in their purses

As a CGI remake hater im deffo not gonna see the new little mermaid movie but as a Fish Enjoyer... it may be difficult. And its sad seeing people diss photorealistic fish bc i feel like thats not the problem here really. Sending you this bc i feel like you get it
Oh yeah, Iā€™ve seen people going ā€œwhy isnā€™t Flounder a flounder?ā€ as if he was a flounder before lol, I bet people would complain if he was. I think itā€™s cool that they made him a real fish species this time around instead of a generic colourful fish! Itā€™s a pet peeve of mine when mammals in cartoons will be (nearly) species specific, like ā€œcatā€, ā€œfoxā€, ā€œhamsterā€, ā€œgiraffeā€, but other animals will just be these generalised nonspecific things, ā€œturtleā€, ā€œspiderā€, ā€œsongbirdā€, ā€œfishā€. Iā€™m not sure if I can say anything nice about the rest of the movieā€™s fish usageā€¦ a while back I reblogged a post that showed a posterā€™s species inaccuracies and it was all wrong, the poster even had an arapaima!! A freshwater fish in the Atlantic!! And Sebastian is a crab that cannot live underwater, sigh.
Itā€™s cool that they wanna feature fish, photorealistic fish too, as significant characters! Given the rest of their remake record though, Iā€™m not really expecting them to be able to make anything that is as vibrant and interesting as the original ā€” if they canā€™t make lions emote or be interesting to look at, I donā€™t think they can do so with fish either. I donā€™t think Iā€™m too much of a pessimist to expect a bland, small-scale version of the original that makes their CGI fish less emotive than real fish are ;P

i'm god's strongest soldier for what i'm thinking about doing tomorrow. i'm toying around with the concept of an essay (either a longass meta post or a proper vid essay if i can be bothered) about 1917 being an effective depiction of the horrors of war without being gritty due to brief moments of humanity and beauty despite destruction. to contrast this mastery, i might re-watch fury for the first time in a decade to point out where "realism" goes wrong. i cannot stress how gritty and edgy this movie is. to give you a vague idea of how bad it is, it's directed by the same guy who directed suicide squad 2016

inside out 2 is interesting but it sure is the exact same plot as inside out 1 down to the emotions getting stranded outside hq as a core aspect of rileys isbeliminated and having to start from scratch while joy loses hope and cries while watching memories in a pile of memories that were deemed unimportant before being deus ex machinad by an imaginary cartoon
#inside out 2 spoilers#except joy has not learned her lesson about all emotions and memories being valuable and that she is not in charge#of making the call of which emotions are important. she builds her team up by emphasizing the good they do for riley#and continues to be an absolute control freak who puts an emphasis on her own importance seeming to have learned very little#some could argue that the emotions arent distinct enough or are even too nebulous to be their own emotions#and according to many theories in the subject all emotions come from combining multiple of the core emotions#which is why having nostalgia show up for a gag was... interesting. considering the first movie literally showed us joy and sadness memorie#create nostalgic ones. otherwise i mostly just feel like theyre too disparate and am still shocked how joy is like. the only positive#emotion. period.#anyway yeah it kinda underminded the first movies thesis that all emotions are important and helpful by making anxiety basically plain bad#even despite her explanations of why shes good. like she drops her memory in the sense of self and it immediately sprouts ominously#like idk maybe im just quibbling over foreshadowing in a childrens movie but to keep in line with that original thesis#wouldnt it make more sense to get more corrupt only as anxiety continues to flood it with only her emotion#like basing your entire sense of self and personality/beliefs around one emotion entirely is extremely unhealthy#and like it starts normal and gets more erratic as anxiety becomes the ONLY contributing factor. its probably not that important#okay so joy learns her lesson about the memories. but its still like. girl did you not already basically learn this before

Last night (well, this morning, really; it was like 3am) I slipped and fell down a Loki disk horse rabbit hole and, to be frank, I am already exhausted and season 2 hasn't even started yet. I'm not gonna lie, idk if I'm going to be able to fandom-along for season 2; I might just end up quietly watching on my own and keeping my thoughts to myself. Which - isn't as fun, really, so lol fuck me I guess.

#mood gif#loki pokey artichokey#standom frank#i'm just venting but.#idk. bitches be unhinged#and this might be a hot take but I truly genuinely 110% don't understand why#if you hated the show so much that you're still meta-ing about it three years later#why would you keep up with season 2? why are you engaging with the trailers and the gifs and the fandom reactions?#when you have absolutely nothing positive to say and instead are just regurgitating all the same things you had issue with for season 1?#i'm not trying to gatekeep the loki fandom but i'm just saying#i love loki but i hate infinity war - i hate the opening scene i hate the death scene i hate how the narrative treats his death and absence#for the rest of the film and i don't mind dr strange objectively but my opinion of him is colored to this day#due to feeling so bitter over how much magic and world-saving he got to do in iw when loki should have been part of that#if not *most* of that#but you know what i don't do? i don't fucking engage with or talk about infinity war#unless to reference it through the lens of thor's pov in post-iw/endgame fic#but i don't post about it. i don't post about the russos. i don't hop on people's posts to point out all the issues i have with iw#especially if said post is in support or praise of it#i engaged with endgame only to the extent to find out how loki would be treated. i watched the entirety of the movie once via torrent#and i moved. the fuck. on.#so i genuinely don't understand why i can't peruse loki series stuff and gifs and the tags without coming across the inevitable anti wank#from the same group of people who seem to be taking the release of season 2 as open invitation to remind everyone#how much they hated season 1 and how loki was characterized and how the narrative was unfair to him#and blah blah blah sylvie sylvie wahhh#it literally makes me not want to bother re-engaging with fandom or posting any of my thoughts or meta that i might have#bc my opinion's never been black and white but even if it *was* people are bound to misunderstand it anyway#like the playground is for everyone but if you hate the sandbox and keep talking about how much better the swings are#go play on the fucking swings then?#not sure that metaphor follows but you get it#anyway i just needed to get this off my chest
