I absolutely love Legally Blonde (the musical). Elle is such a great character!!
The audience is introduced to her in such an amazing way, with her mathematically trying to figure out what to wear. “It may be perfect for a blonde, but I’m not that blonde. I may be in love but I’m not stupid, lady, I’ve got eyes.”
Elle in general is so good. She’s so smart and she’s legitimately the most interesting character to follow.
But!!! The best!!! Part!!! At the end of the musical, when she says she’s leaving, Emmett confessing that he loves her isn’t what convinces her to stay. Instead, it’s the other female characters showing their support for her!!! The way the girls in this movie support each other!!! The “Greek Chorus” is perhaps my favourite example, if only because they’re so supportive of absolutely everything Elle does!!! It’s so sweet!!! “We came to see our president be legally blonde”? Best line, I love it, it’s so good.
But also, the romance between Elle and Emmett is so fucking good. Emmett supports her through absolutely everything. Emmett is such a great person, but also his musical cue is an oboe, which means I’m biased to like him anyway-
“They laughed at me like they’re laughing at you. We can’t win if we don’t follow through.” “Though it’s hardly my business to say, could it be the real thing in your way is the very man you’re trying to impress?” “But I know it’ll all be worthwhile when I win my first lucrative trial, and buy my mom that great big house out on the cape.” “As I hugged my mom and told her, with the chance I’ve been given, I’m gonna be driven as hell.” All of Emmett’s lines are so good, all of his songs are perfect, Emmett is the best character ever.
I love the ending, when Elle proposes to Emmett. It’s the character coming full circle. She begins the musical by planning an outfit that will be perfect for Warner to propose to her to; “This dress needs to seal the deal, make a grown man kneel, but it can’t come right out and say bride.” “I’ve got t leave Warner his pride.” She’s fulfilling the stereotypical idea of the woman having to be proposed to. She can’t propose to him or look too desperate to be proposed to, because that will ruin his “pride.”
Elle proposing to Emmett at the end shows such an amazing character growth. She knows she doesn’t have to fulfill the stereotypical female role in their relationship. She proposes in a room full of people, proving that she is no longer concerned with her partner’s “pride.” She proposes by saying “Emmett Forrest, please make me the happiest woman I know.” She proposes in the stereotypical male style, but it’s so fucking sweet because Emmett is so excited and they just love each other so much-
But the best way to portray the character growth is two specific interactions. To set it up, the Greek Chorus mentions, in the very first song, that being married won’t come between Elle and their “sacred bond of sisterhood.” Later in the same song, the Chorus sings: “We love you guys.” And Elle responds: “No, I love you guys.” Note that she specifically says “I,” because presumably, Warner doesn’t actually care all that much about them.
Now, in the finale, the Chorus repeats the line, this time to Elle and Emmett: “We love you guys.” But, this time, Elle and Emmett respond together: “No, we love you guys.”
Emmett supports Elle’s interests to the point that she feels comfortable sharing them with him. She feels comfortable introducing her best friends to him and he actually likes them. It comes full circle. Elle finally has someone who supports her completely, just like she supports Emmett completely, they make each other happy. It’s so sweet.
Also, it’s kinda funny because Emmett is Elle’s sugar baby-

“the class commentary in saltburn was shit” WHAT CLASS COMMENTARY???? NOT EVERY MOVIE WITH RICH PEOPLE HAS TO OR SHOULD HAVE CLASS COMMENTARY. EMERALD FENNELL KNOWS VERY WELL THAT SHE IS NOT THE RIGHT DIRECTOR FOR A MOVIE ABOUT CLASS COMMENTARY WHICH IS WHY SHE DID NOT WRITE A MOVIE ABOUT CLASS COMMENTARY.
#saltburn posting#saltburn#begging everyone who is complaining about the ‘message’ of saltburn to watch ANY interview with emerald#when you see her attention to detail and hear the way she talks about these characters#you will understand that this is a movie about obsession#and the cattons being rich heightens this for sure and pushes oliver into an uncomfortable position#in the exact same way that it pushes farleigh into an uncomfortable position#they will grant you help as long as you don’t ask for it#desires are messy and ugly so it’s better to just not have them#these ideas are absolutely a result of the catton’s wealth and status#but as far as the plot goes#their wealth is just a narrative tool to push these ideas about beauty and obsession#watch the cufflinks scene again and really think about it#think about venetia and what she wanted and farleigh and what he wanted#and all of the desires that are left unspoken at saltburn#and the desire to BE DESIRED#think about all of this and try to tell me that this is a movie about material gain

One of the absolute best things about the bros is that they just. Play. They play around like the teens they are, playing ball, or video games, or anything else. They just play and have fun together, genuinely enjoying each other’s company. I dunno, I just appreciate how easy it is for them to mess around and be kids.
#rottmnt#rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles#it’s what makes Raph’s mindset at the beginning of the movie so tragic to me tbh#bc like on one hand he’s absolutely not WRONG that Leo (and Donnie and Mikey) need to take being heroes and a team more seriously#but on the other he shouldn’t have to sacrifice his own childhood for it y’know?#raph IS the one who has most consistently pushes them being heroes and#I can’t help but think the shredder incident only pushed him harder in that direction#but to a bit of a detriment#it’s honorable but self destructive in a way#the thing that gets me too is that contrary to popular belief raph DID have fun and a childhood pre shredder#sure sometimes he had to be the responsible one but pretty much all of them got stuck in that position now and again#raph still got to be a kid and then#idk it’s what makes the ending of the movie so poignant to me#bc it’s RAPH who suggests the game it’s RAPH who takes them away from a moment of responsibly and pushes them to do something FUN#and I adore this I really do#so much

I will thank HTTYD live action for one thing, and that's reviving my interest in this franchise like jumper cables to the heart.
Anyway, my controversial HTTYD take is that the second movie feels more emotionally mature, and it continues to resonate more with me the more I've grown into adulthood. It's the cautious optimism... It's the fact that you can't change everyone's perspective, and sometimes you need to fight for what you believe in... It's the fear of adult responsibilities that feel larger than life, only to realise that instead of running you have to try... It's the knowledge that the world may try and strike you down, but the bonds you've created will bring you strength in an uncertain future... do you feel me?
#fires posts#ramblings#httyd#httyd 2#like listen I absolutely adore the first movie and it's beautiful and nuanced and has wonderful themes and lessons#but ultimately it's a feel-good happy ending sort of movie. Everything works out and everyone gets what they want#which is completely fine!! In fact needed in this world dare I say#but HTTYD 2 always felt more down to earth to me. Not taking the bizarrely pessimistic tone of the 3rd film but not highly positive either#As a film I have so many takeaways from it. But ultimately I love how it acknowledges the world and people can be fucked up#but you can't give up and you have to keep trying despite an uncertain future#I just appreciate it so much

I'm trying to figure out how to get from What If's CCverse CATWS knock-off (which I hate and think is not only nonsensical but actively insulting to both CATWS and BW) to an AoU in that 'verse and I think it may be literally impossible because they cut the Hydra infiltration out of that 'verse.
(Bedlam, you hate CC, why are you thinking about it? --I'm considering doing some concept writing for the hypothetical Yonder sequel.)
#sometimes the WI writers were on but the rest of the time I'm 95% convinced they've never seen a single MCU film#and I'm absolutely positive they're incapable of realizing the movies are tied together#adventures in accountability#bedlam watches the mcu#I've never seen anyone as bad at cause and effect as what if's take on captain carter

I genuinely have no idea how many of you have seen "The Iron Giant" but *nonetheless* if by chance you have, please consider that movie but with Taylor as Hogarth, Cass as his mom obviously, Nicky as Dean, and agent Schmegan as agent Mansley.
#once again I am twirling a silly little crossover around in my head yes hehe#dndads#ah but if you haven't watched the iron giant you absolutely positively definitely should it's one of my favorite movies EVER#hm between this and The Incredibles I guess Brad Bird just really does it for me and dndads crossovers huh#dungeons and daddies#taylor swift dndads#taylor swift#cassandra swift#nick foster#nicky freeman#ough he would make such a good Dean aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa#agent schmegan

Production of American Psycho where all the instrumental tracks are just played from yt or spotify and Bateman goes on semi-scripted tangents about each product, and a few nonsensical ads for poisons industrial weapons etc are sprinkled in with increasing frequency as it goes on. Also all the songs are different because I fucking hate what they did with that show.
#I'm in the camp of the book is interesting the movie's great the musical blows chunks#When you have a song called 'you are what you wear' sung by the two main high-society women and their guests#and Bateman enters the party without getting his own verse or even joining in. nd Bateman enters the party#In fact is busy calling Jean in a moment played as sweet or smth because he calls her peasant clothes acceptable and asks her out#you have lost the plot are you fucking kidding me#He doesn't really consider himself a god and he absolutely isn't one. He tries cooking human sausage and fails at it and cries about it#He pulls a dumb prank on his fiance right before breakup. He does dogshit doodles and fills out a crossword with MEAT BLOOD BONE. Unserious#They give Jean a song about how nice it could be to settle down with him. Bitch that's the Hamptons era with Evelyn and guess how that goes#Having his spree when he gets back be countless bodies just writhing beneath him while he sings a power song...disgusting. Repugnant.#And having him make a public scene right at the beginning and implying the homeless man to be his first victim is so fucking stupid#And I swear I hate how they do Louis so much. Feels like we're supposed to be laughing at him#And his confession coming from guilt over Jean? Bitch what are we doing here. What story are we trying to tell?#At points it feels like he's supposed to be even more of a monster who sees himself above all of humanity than in the book or the film#And at points more of a tragic figure than the fuck has any right to be. Where's the satire?#Anyway. On a positive note I got this idea from watching a small (coincidentally 80s-themed) production of Hadestown#and I really liked it overall but sometimes the tracks had awkward blips in between. Not their fault tiny tech issue didn't really detract#But I do think it could be interesting as an artistic choice to go to the logical conclusion of like#using music from a platform where access to art is so openly mediated(?) by commerce. Just not paying for the premium#american psycho

It's my birthday and to come into the ripe back-aching age of 28 I just binged watch two Quentin Tarantino films. Just wanted to say that if he could do the movies he does, you can certainly publish that fanfic no matter how badly you think you've written it
#im not saying he's bad#i like some of the dialogue and the things he gets his characters into#i love that he used brad pitt's stardom for inglorious basterds and have the man basically just be a passenger than a frontliner#i also like how he uses violence as both a shock factor and character development than just the former#i just get the vibes that this man sits by his desk propping dolls to reenact the mundane chitchat in pulp fiction#like he writes characters like a fanfic writer#that foot massage conversation?#oh man this dude definitely raised both hands trying to imitate two people conversing and how it would build up to the confrontation w bret#also not NOT condoning his language#but given context to pre 9/11 and just how the 90s were and what type of sickly happy movies were#i get it#also i didn't mean to watch it but my friend wanted to watch it and i am trying so hard not to be lonely and be happy on my birthday for#once and him making time for me absolutely makes the experience more positive than just watching it alone

#aotv spoilers#ok you’re asking for my opinions let’s do it#i love louis!!!! im so proud of him and im so happy i got to watch him on his journey for so long and can’t wait for what’s to come for him#and i think my love for him and for his music and for my time in the fandím and for one d etc is what makes this a good watch and why i#liked it because otherwise i have my reservations to the movie and im not going to get into the babygate stuff#apart from the fact that louis trying to get freddie to hug him was extremely awkward and ive never seen less organic thing than the beach#scene and i find it funny they tried to push that as organic so hard#my issue is that it just had a potential to be a much better film is all sksmsk#it is good but it feels a bit rushed and kind of cheap in some ways and i get that’s the style of these biopics sometimes but#like it was such a shame the bg music was not really gold and was always exaggeratedly emotional because it made it cheesy and cheap and#kind of forced#i think it would have a great potential to get many people to say wow this is a strong talented guy and i think it is a great intro but i#think they undersold the movie so it’s not going to have a chance to reach an audience much wider than his current fanbase which is a shame#for his current fanbase it is a solidification and reiteration of his promo season and it is very clear where they want louis to stand and#what they want his image to be like and i think it’s absolutely amazing how they managed to show his growth as an artist and as a human and#and place him in a position where he’s now confident and secure and ready to embark on a new journey etc. although for the fans there’s#nothing new there and i think it’s worth considering how exactly they’re portraying and that they completely left out his relationships#aside from his family and the band#i think it’s important that it was noted he was undersestimated and pushed down and i think they made obvious how much he’s worked on#himself#i think it’s kinda clear they’re using it as a faith in the future promo with the new songs even though the doc ends with the end of the#tour#i think it’s interesting how many rainbow flags they chose to include without addressing the way his shows and fanbase look at all because#if i were from Gp id wonder what’s up with that esp when he only acknowledged the kmm project again#generally i think it’s a good watch that’s very transparent in what it’s trying to do for louis promo and image wise and it doesn’t tell#you anything new but it reminds you why you love this man so much while also leaving you a bit disappointed because this had a much#greater cinematic potential and a lot of it feels either rushed or underfinanced or forced and that’s a shame

Yknow, instead of basing a lackluster at best character off a nazi, Coco could have been Chajka, based off the heroic Chajka Klinger, a jewish woman who was essentially a scribe of history
You can even keep the minibag machine gun considering the history of jewish women hiding guns in their purses
#rwde#idk if yall have read the light of days by Judy Batalion but that shit made me cry#do not read that book at work lmao#but in all seriousness it's a v good book i highly recommend#why stan a shitheel based on a nazi when you can recall and rejoice people who did their best during the absolute worst of times#side tangent but reading this book has turned me off all nazi shit#like obvs we grow up w 'nazis r bad bc death and destruction' but reading the individual accounts#following some folks from teen to young death even in a narration#its haunting#its v much the reason i hate jojo rabbit(movie)/caging skies(book)#i do not ever want to see a nazi in a positive light#human? yes. quirky and relatable? FUCKING NO#idk why but the entire book chajka was always the one I felt most drawn to#i wish she'd had a happy ending but i honestly can't say that i would've done any different in those circumstances#i hope she knows peace and that her efforts weren't in vain#whats a proper jewish sendoff for the deceased? im p sure rip is christian#either way chajka i love you

As a CGI remake hater im deffo not gonna see the new little mermaid movie but as a Fish Enjoyer... it may be difficult. And its sad seeing people diss photorealistic fish bc i feel like thats not the problem here really. Sending you this bc i feel like you get it
Oh yeah, I’ve seen people going “why isn’t Flounder a flounder?” as if he was a flounder before lol, I bet people would complain if he was. I think it’s cool that they made him a real fish species this time around instead of a generic colourful fish! It’s a pet peeve of mine when mammals in cartoons will be (nearly) species specific, like “cat”, “fox”, “hamster”, “giraffe”, but other animals will just be these generalised nonspecific things, “turtle”, “spider”, “songbird”, “fish”. I’m not sure if I can say anything nice about the rest of the movie’s fish usage… a while back I reblogged a post that showed a poster’s species inaccuracies and it was all wrong, the poster even had an arapaima!! A freshwater fish in the Atlantic!! And Sebastian is a crab that cannot live underwater, sigh.
It’s cool that they wanna feature fish, photorealistic fish too, as significant characters! Given the rest of their remake record though, I’m not really expecting them to be able to make anything that is as vibrant and interesting as the original — if they can’t make lions emote or be interesting to look at, I don’t think they can do so with fish either. I don’t think I’m too much of a pessimist to expect a bland, small-scale version of the original that makes their CGI fish less emotive than real fish are ;P
#you can call me biased; i really really really dislike the new remakes. i hate how they imply that animation is for kids only#and i hate how theyre merely cashing in on the nostalgia that people feel. the movies only exist for you to go “i remember this!”#no other reason. they wanna renew their licenses and sometimes they fix like a minor thing but they exist only to cash in.#they have absolutely nothing new to say at all. i hate how theyre still making them. i really need one of them to flop really badly#i wanna be positive in my posts but this time i couldnt really help it ^^’#asks#anonymous#anonymous asks#anon

i'm god's strongest soldier for what i'm thinking about doing tomorrow. i'm toying around with the concept of an essay (either a longass meta post or a proper vid essay if i can be bothered) about 1917 being an effective depiction of the horrors of war without being gritty due to brief moments of humanity and beauty despite destruction. to contrast this mastery, i might re-watch fury for the first time in a decade to point out where "realism" goes wrong. i cannot stress how gritty and edgy this movie is. to give you a vague idea of how bad it is, it's directed by the same guy who directed suicide squad 2016
#i have it on blu ray because i had no taste at 13 and thought logan lerman was hot. i watched it a year later disliked it and looking back#it was absolutely god awful. then i realized it's a david ayer movie so that tracks LMAOOOO#if i do end up watching it i think i'll take like 20 points of psychic damage but alas such is the duty of a critic!#also POSSIBLY thinking abt trying to find a movie that shows war in a sickeningly romantic light & if i do decide to contrast the positive#aspects with an overly positive film i'm thinking either pearl harbor or to.p gun#i've seen like a third of pearl harbor and hated it and i've never seen TG so i'm honestly tempted to not even use the overly positive war#movie contrast bit bc fucking hell. i do NOT wanna watch a bay movie or TG. i think i'll puke my guts out if i do#len speaks

inside out 2 is interesting but it sure is the exact same plot as inside out 1 down to the emotions getting stranded outside hq as a core aspect of rileys isbeliminated and having to start from scratch while joy loses hope and cries while watching memories in a pile of memories that were deemed unimportant before being deus ex machinad by an imaginary cartoon
#inside out 2 spoilers#except joy has not learned her lesson about all emotions and memories being valuable and that she is not in charge#of making the call of which emotions are important. she builds her team up by emphasizing the good they do for riley#and continues to be an absolute control freak who puts an emphasis on her own importance seeming to have learned very little#some could argue that the emotions arent distinct enough or are even too nebulous to be their own emotions#and according to many theories in the subject all emotions come from combining multiple of the core emotions#which is why having nostalgia show up for a gag was... interesting. considering the first movie literally showed us joy and sadness memorie#create nostalgic ones. otherwise i mostly just feel like theyre too disparate and am still shocked how joy is like. the only positive#emotion. period.#anyway yeah it kinda underminded the first movies thesis that all emotions are important and helpful by making anxiety basically plain bad#even despite her explanations of why shes good. like she drops her memory in the sense of self and it immediately sprouts ominously#like idk maybe im just quibbling over foreshadowing in a childrens movie but to keep in line with that original thesis#wouldnt it make more sense to get more corrupt only as anxiety continues to flood it with only her emotion#like basing your entire sense of self and personality/beliefs around one emotion entirely is extremely unhealthy#and like it starts normal and gets more erratic as anxiety becomes the ONLY contributing factor. its probably not that important#okay so joy learns her lesson about the memories. but its still like. girl did you not already basically learn this before
