The Brozone Misconception

(This picture is more a joke don't take it too seriously)

This is a kind of long analysis, deep dive, and discussion about certain fandom misconceptions. I am 100 percent open for discussion but I would ask that you read the whole thing first before reaching out, and please be respectful!

Essay under the cut

There is a common misconception in a small subset of the trolls fandom about the character of Brozone. That is their reaction and treatment of Branch, their overall purpose in the story, and whether or not Branch should have forgiven them. Whether or not their trauma born toxic traits which they aim to grow out of should be forgiven or not.

Let’s begin with an analysis of the beginning, middle, and end of their arc progression more or less.

We start with our favorite problem child, Jonathan Dorian, mounting the pressure of tonight's show, building expectations, and showing us, the audience, a bit of what goes on every time these guys perform:

Making Bruce do 100 more push ups in the time before showtime (1 minute)

Pressuring Clay to wear the funderdrawers even tho he clearly doesn’t want to

Rebuffing floyds attempts to calm himself down

And his worst crime

Making Baby Branch Nervous

Now you could see all of these and think “Evil! Evil John Dory! Jail for John DOry for 1000 years!!” because he is being oh so toxic. Now JD’s main motivation for pushing his brothers so hard in this moment has to do with the “Perfect Family Harmony” which according to baby Branch no one has ever hit before

And you can see the strain it puts on the other brothers not just through the scenes i showed before but Clay literally tells us

John Dory not only sees it as a great achievement, but he is putting his own and his families self worth all on whether or not they accomplish the perfect family harmony

And when they fail he blames it on them not following his lead

He still believes after all of that that they can successfully complete the Perfect Family harmony

This looks to be about the first time the brothers air their grievances out to their older brother about how they actually feel about not only completing the harmony, but the direction of the band itself.

All of this happens within the heat of the moment, and only continues to get worse as when confronted with all of this Negativity JD decides to leave. You can see by his facial expressions in the above screenshots he was already feeling terrible about the situation as a whole. Animation is very show don’t tell just as much as live action is, it’s very important for storytelling as a whole. A character should not have to SAY they are remorseful for you to be able to see it.

So JD leaves leading his other brothers to leave as well. Ironically they are following his lead badum dum dum.

Now we can assume this is probably par for the course for these guys, cuz Grandma is right there, and she just lets them leave, you say plot convenience I say subtle story telling/ It is implied they do this all the time and will eventually come back. (they don’t)

Now you may be thinking, Ricky, you say that Brozone is not toxic, yet you show us the worst examples of their character. Listen dear reader, this is only the beginning, what I’ve shown you is merely the establishment of the eventual conflict that will be part of the driving force behind character growth and the story itself.

Let’s move on to adulthood. The main arguments against Brozone happen here, other than the initial abandonment of Branch, which, I should remind you, happened when the oldest among them was still a teenager (teenagers are dumb).

In this section I also have to mention another movie, and another character, as he is usually brought up in these discussions

Creek

Creek is usually used as a comparison to the Brozone bros in the argument that Brozone is EVIL AND TOXIC AND UNFORGIVABLE and Creek by comparison should be seen in a better light and not deserve the hate. To be honest I have never seen the level of hate that has been given to Brozone leveled at Creek in the slightest. He is canonically a toxic character, and one who is incredibly self serving which a majority of the fandom recognize and vibe with. Creeks admittedly rancid personality is a massive factor in his appeal (at least for me), and that is kind of the point of his character: To be awful and unforgivable. Creek wasn’t made as your average side character, Creek was specifically made to be an antagonist, to be a contrast to one of our main protagonists, Branch. That is why they are always at odds with each other within both 3D media and 2D media.

Creek has also shown disregard for Branch’s hobbies in the main show, tossing his puzzle into the fire. This was during Haircuffed, when Creek didn’t want to do Branch’s puzzle

Which you think not so bad, its just a puzzle! Well…

Puzzle’s have incredible significance to Branch, a comfort object if you will, and another way to feel connected to his Grandma. Now you might cry “Creek didn’t know it was significant! He can’t be held responsible for that!” HE SHOULDN’T HAVE TO KNOW THE TRAUMA BEHIND THE PUZZLE TO NOT DESTROY THE PUZZLE.

Conversely let's look at the Brothers:

Throughout the course of the film they are a bit rude to Branch and dismissive of him:

But anyway

These scenes are minor things that add up during the course of the film for the purpose of showing off the traits they will put aside and grow out of for the sake of each other.

Anyway

Before we tackle the entire argument scene let’s first tackle the individual character of each of the bros, Specifically: John Dory, and Bruce, who are most criticized for their actions.

John Dory is one of the first brothers we see return in the film, and his first and foremost objective is to collect Branch so that they can go get their other brothers to rescue Floyd. Some have called John Dory uncaring for his younger brothers, but if that were the case why start the rescue mission at all? An uncaring brother would just ignore the letter and go on with his life, but John Dory literally drops everything just to go rescue his little brother. The letter even specified getting the other brothers first, but John Dory goes alone to get Floyd out of danger as fast as possible only retrieving the other bros when he fails (and cuz he didnt know where they were, can’t waste time when you got a brother to save)

A brother who didn’t care about his family wouldn’t go through all this effort. Some would say he’s only doing it for appearances sake, but for whom? Him and his brothers have been out of the limelight for 20 years, JD especially has been isolated in the neverglades, who is he trying to impress with this? No one, he’s just a good brother.

Also a reminder! When thinking about breaking Floyd out he is not the first to bring up the harmony! Floyd is, John Dory had a much more clever idea

So it's not just to complete the harmony either.

He’s also held on to all the merch from their Brozone days, mementos of his family, it shows how he cares, but also the flaw he aims to overcome: his desperate attempt to cling to the past, the better days.

Now let's go to Bruce, easily the most scrutinized of the brothers (because of the baby comment)

When he first sees his brothers again this is his reaction:

Bruce is excited to introduce them to his family, excited to reconnect.

“It’s so nice to finally meet you” Implies that he’s talked about them at length and the possibility of them meeting up with one another.

Also all of his kids completely ignore their mom, just to ask their father something, or tell on their sibling, or ask for his help as seen in this entire clip

With the ketchup kid he assures his kid he will handle it (and yes Brandy had to handle it but um rescue mission?) and that he loves them he just needs a bit of time to address, um who was it again? His brothers, right…

Bruce is argued as being incredibly selfish, I had seen a meme once that had suggested Bruce would let his own children die before he would give up his own life, which is horrendous and blatantly untrue. Bruce only tries to turn away his brothers when John Dory brings up the perfect family harmony and that’s before he knows it's for Floyd, once he finds out it’s for Floyd he is immediately on board! His biggest concern about the harmony at this time is how they’re going to do it.

As for “abandoning his family again” Bruce is going on a rescue mission, which he asks his wife before hand if it is alright

Which she approves, he also agrees to cover for a WHOLE MONTH for the yoga retreat (Also seen in the clip above)

He spends the majority of the journey caring for Tiny Diamond as well, he lets Tiny into his hair, carries him around in a baby sling he’s a dad to any kid who needs him.

Clay doesn’t get as much scrutiny as either of the older bros, most likely due to his inability to leave the golf course and the fact he apologizes to Branch at the end. There are many things that mimic the same in the ending scene but let’s address the points brought up within the argument that people use to claim the evilness of Brozone.

Also fun reminder, Clay is the one to start the fight, Not John Dory, not Bruce, Clay just a fun note (he is a lil problematic and argumentative and thats why i love him)

Clay brings up John Dory being bossy which sets everyone off into a tangent about the past, past actions that they think are resurfacing

Clay: No. No, dude. You’re forcin' us to be perfect, just like you always have, so we can hit the perfect family harmony.

John Dory: Yeah. For Floyd.

Bruce: Is it? Or is this all just so you can tell people what to do again?

John Dory: Wha What?

Bruce: This isn’t gonna work if you keep on bein' the same old John Dory.

We all know John Dory’s reason for being “bossy” ; his reason for his perfection, once done out of an effort to impress, is now one out of necessity. They need to be perfect because now someone can die, and the others can’t see that due to their own trauma at the hands of JD’s perfectionism.

As shown way at the beginning of the essay, all of the brothers suffered at the hands of JD’s past obsession, Bruce had to look a certain way pushing his body past its limits, Clay had to act a certain way disregarding his own happiness to keep up an image, Floyd was ignored and his advice pushed aside, and Branch was pushed to be perfect when he was only about 2 years old (or a month old if you go by the brozone blog). JD also suffered, pushing himself to make song after song, mentally exhausting himself and inadvertently hurting his brothers in the process of doing what he thinks is right for them.

JD also had the responsibility (as a teen) to parent all of his younger brothers:

John Dory: Well, I’m not allowed to change. I’m the oldest. I had to be the leader.

John Dory: Why do you think I moved to the middle of nowhere? So I didn’t have to be in charge of anyone. Four little brothers is a lot of responsibility.

You could argue it's his responsibility as the oldest but Grandma was right there, they shouldn’t be his sole responsibility.

When most of them left it was done out of self preservation, to protect their sanity and to finally find happiness outside of a place that was no longer bringing it to them. They were kind of acting how most would want Branch to act, they cut out the toxic family for their own safety.

Bruce: [stammers] Why do you think I left? So no one would treat me like you did.

Clay:

Clay: I’m gonna find trolls who take me seriously. Next to Clay is a picture of himself in a graduation cap

(Also that is Clays graduation photo, they are all around teen years in the prologue which means this is either a middle school graduation photo or he graduated early and is still not taken seriously, which as someone who also faces that [only being seen one way despite your achievements] is incredibly discouraging and soul destroying)

They most likely didn’t return due to the fact they didn’t want to be faced with this kind of treatment again (golf course entrapment aside)

(Now you’re probably wondering about Floyd and he’s a whole other post, this is mostly focusing on the brothers who receive the most criticism due to misrepresentation)

During the argument they talk about going their separate ways, it is admittedly harsh they way they talk about leaving again, but they never say they’re leaving forever. Bruce has to return to his wife and kids, Clay left the golf course without one of its leaders, JD has his own life and routine, of course they’d go back to it once it was over, but that doesn’t mean visiting is off the table, and that they’d never see each other again.

Again i recognize JD is being an asshole here, but he is only knocking the idea of living together off the table, which kind of understandable they’re all adults with their own lives they don’t need to live together, I don’t get mad at my sister for going back to her house when shes done visiting. But again it is more how they say it then what they’re saying

Branch: [scoffs] Oh, I’m sorry. Is that funny to you? That I might want us to actually be a family again? Tiny Diamond, pull over. Now.

Seen is JD's look of regret

You can see on his face that he regrets what he said when Branch says this, when he gets angry at him, he didn’t mean it like that. Thats when the don’t be a baby comment comes in, they still don’t actually understand why he’s upset, they think he’s acting childish, they don’t recognize he’s changed yet

These are their faces when they hear what Branch has been through, they obviously are upset, they’re hurt on his behalf, they are remorseful, this and their future actions signify the shift from who they were (hurt kids turned hurt adults, fighting over their past trauma)

After Branch leaves, they, on their own accord, continue the mission to save Floyd, which is how they get caught, and during the final climax control freak JD relinquishes control, having changed and lets Branch take the lead. This is after Branch reminds them they don’t have to be perfect to be in harmony, just to be as they are together which they AGREE

Once they save Floyd we are brought to Bruce’s restaurant, he brings them there to host their reunion, there is where branch gets encouragement from JD, where Clay apologizes, where Floyd reminisces and you can see JD engaging with his brothers more than just encouraging Branch he has joined Clays sad book club

This isn’t the end of their reconnection, this is only the beginning. They still have lots of time to grow, and to become closer as family.

Now lets head back to Creek for a moment before we close this off:

We have brought up the puzzle destruction and his purpose as an antagonist. The main argument most people use is that Creek had no other choice but to sell out his entire race to be eaten and killed to save himself. He had a choice, Branch would’ve let himself get eaten if it meant protecting all of troll village as noticed when he protects poppy in twt (though he might’ve actually found another way out), Poppy would’ve as well. In tbt Floyd begs each of his brothers who meets him before the climax to let him die so they don’t face the same fate, these are all selfless acts. Creek reacts selfishly, eat everyone else but don’t eat me, then he smugly confronts Poppy, obnoxiously laments about how he has to live with his actions when if he were a truly good and selfless character wouldn't have been an issue. He smiles smugly, shrugs his shoulders, and lets himself be carried to safety when his people look at his betrayal with disbelief and sadness.

Creeks actions in the 1st movie are awful, they’re supposed to be, they’re meant to be unforgivable crimes, and that is why he is killed in the 3D canon, legit he is dead in the 3D canon. 2D and 3D are different continuities, which is part of why I find them (Brozone and Creek) to be mostly incomparable.

Brozone’s arc only affects Branch and each other and in the end they grow stronger, and into better people. Creeks arc/actions affect an entire species and their survival, within the 2D continuity his actions only continue to be self serving, and rather toxic (more for funsies but you know) he should not have been forgiven, but he was. His actions were deplorable yet forgiven which then begs the question why aren’t Brozones? Creek also wrote the apology song solely to humiliate Branch in front of his friends which is not cool bro, Branch did not deserve the treatment he got in the episode from anyone.

To conclude my thoughts are that Creek and Brozones actions are incomparable, Creek’s actions are not meant to be taken in a positive or sympathetic light, he is a villain cut and dry, that is who he was made to be and he does it wonderfully. I don’t hate Creek, I love his character, he is awful and that is great! Love toxic awful characters! Brozone are a representation of a broken family coming together again, they are toxic, and then they grow, they are meant to do so, the villains of that movie are Velvet, Veneer, and familial trauma all of which get mended by the end of the film. It’s not perfect but its there, and the ignorance of it is what causes these major misconceptions.

Hiiii I don't know if there's really a market for this but I started True Blood and saw the lack of fics about this fine ass viking vampire. It made me bring back my pen from retirement and I hope you enjoy.

After making the decisions that led her to venture away from her comfortable life in the Midwest town she grew up in, to ending up back in Louisiana only this time visiting a girl she’d became instant friends with after a drunk night of bonding during a college spring break; Y/N no longer believed anything else she did would be too far out of her comfort zone.

Hence why she’d allowed her instant friend Hadley to convince her to join her for a night on the town at a popular vampire bar in Shreveport. Y/N herself didn’t personally have any strong feelings about vampires positive or negative. Her interaction with their kind had been incredibly limited, as they aren't as ingrained in society in the Midwest as they seemed to be here in Louisiana. Though, as someone with a unique racial history she wasn’t prone to judge an entire group of people based on the widely publicized and scrutinized actions of the few, so she was open to making a connection.

The somewhat dodgy looking bar “Fangtasia” Hadley brought her to seemed to be a local hot spot as the line to the door had wrapped itself around the building before the doors were even open. “No wonder you wanted to leave so goddamn early,” Y/N laughed, “Is it always this busy?”

“This is actually pretty slow for a Friday night, probably because there’s been a few ‘vampire suspected’ crimes over in a town nearby. Nothing you should need to worry about though! Ironically they’re pretty attentive to humans here.”

“Hmmm if you say so girl, I feel like my outfit is already doing that attention grabbin’ for me.” Y/N gestured to her cute neutral ensemble, paired with a stunning stiletto brown boot and matching purse, and directed Hadley with her eyes to the others in line. “I didn’t get outfit memo of leather subculture meets Evanescence.”

“Yeahhhh girl I’m sorry, I should’ve let you know they really play up the traditional vampy monster vibe. Your whale tail kinda fits in tho!” Hadley spun her around, pointing out her tasteful bow accessorized thong peaking over the waistline of her skirt, “And look at that hair! The length, the volume, pure seductress vibes.” Her hair cascading down her back, gently moving with the motion of her spinning.

Throughout their chatting the line no longer remained stagnant, and Y/N and Hadley were “politely urged” to move forward, by those behind them in line. As they neared the door, Y/N took note of the woman guarding the entrance. She had a strong European angled face, the perfected appearance of “natural” blonde hair and deep set blue eyes. She made no attempts to hide her fangs, while playing up her vampire allure with customers as they entered the club dawned in what could best be described as a “BDSM gothic slut” ensemble. However, the feature that Y/N was most interested in about her was the killer pair of “So Kate” pumps adorned on her feet.

“I love your shoes!” Y/N stated as they reached the front of the line, before the vampire could even begin to speak. “Those are the legendary ‘So Kates’I don’t know how you manage to work at a bar and wear those all night long.”

The woman seemed to be a bit taken aback by her forwardness in interacting with her, “Well aren’t you just sooo cute? I can wear them all night long because I’m dead sweetheart. Let me see some ID.” Y/N and Hadley complied handing over their their respective ID’s.

“You know they’re also known as ‘Killer Kate’s’ kind of fitting, no?” Y/N smirked as she waved them into the bar after verifying their ID’s. The woman gazed back with a sly grin a slightly amused expression “You’re an interesting one” Y/N simply sends her a smile back accompanied by a short inhale of a laugh and heads into the bar with Hadley.

As they enter the bar Y/N begins to take in the atmosphere and abundance of a world unknown to her. She takes note of the “vampy” vibes Hadley described earlier the decor of the club adorned in traditional blacks and blood red tones. Now she wasn’t a prude by any means, Y/N was no stranger to nudity as she’d love a good jaunt to the strip club with her girlies back home, but something was off about the dancers on display in the club. Perhaps it was raw perverse nature the dancers portrayed themselves as prey in, with a grossly predatory eye of the onlooker. They seemed to play into the idea of them as a “meal fresh for the taking” leaving nothing to interpretation, a very literal display towards the targeted vampire audience. That alone had offset the room’s vibes there was something more that Y/N sensed.

While vampires had only come out of the coffin 2 years prior, Y/N had been able to sense something “off” about certain energies ever since she was a young girl. Up until the confirmation of there being supernatural beings in the world she simply dismissed it as her being a intuitive scorpio queen. With the news of other beings existences she’d begun to explore that ability of hers as potentially more that just deep astrological stellium influences. Her honing into that intuitiveness and energy sensing allowed her to get a clear feel onto the vibes of the room in her present situation. Y/N started to feel a clenching in her gut making her tense up, something telling every nerve in her body to synapse and to be on the utmost alert. The energy was powerful, dark and looming, almost as if it was commanding over the entirety of the room. Although the energy was fearsome in its rawness, there was something about it that was also thrilling. Y/N pulled herself from her thoughts and maneuvered her eyes to venture beyond taking in the foreign space but to focus on finding just who or what was outpouring this energy.

“Girl are you okay? I know it’s a lot to take in, we can take a breather outside if you want?” Hadley further snapped Y/N from her trance and she nodded her head to her friend in response.

“Oh no I’m fine girl, it’s just so much to take in! Let’s go grab a drink, I’ll probably feel more settled after one or two of those.” She grabs her friend’s hand and heads in the direction of the bar.

Y/N ordered a drink along with Hadley and as soon as it was placed in front of her she turned around, acting as if she was mindlessly sipping on her drink while raking her eyes across the crowded room. In her observation, Y/N noticed a section of that room that was separated off, yet seemingly had the best seat in the house to get a full look at the ongoings in the bar. In the section there were three ornate chairs, and in the center chair presided a being for lack of a better term. Man or vampire didn’t seem to encompass the raw dominating essence he emitted, and with one look she instantly knew this was the source of the energy in the room. He seemed to command the very essence of the room while not even being engaged in the ongoings within it. He was typing away on a phone with a disinterested expression on his face, with his hair pushed back seemly like he’d continuously been running his fingers through it. He had on a low cut black tank top accompanied by a black jacket and a necklace. The mere dominance his aura presented was something alone that should have instilled her with fear, but that spark of thrill earlier was ever-present along with the signs of danger. Y/N could sense she was ogling at this point and refocused on the conversation Hadley was attempting to hold with her “-just so hot you know?”

“Oh girl for sure” Y/N shifted her eyes to focus on her friend’s face, and flagged down the bartender motioning for another drink. “Eric Northman had you in a trance huh?” Hadley giggles referencing the direction Y/N has averted her attention from.

“Who’s Eric Northman?” Y/N playfully raises a eyebrow at Hadley.

“The vamp you were just ogling, he’s a very important figure in the vampire community and not just because he owns this bar. I get it though, he’s a total smoke show, anyone can get lost in looking at that.”

“It’s not that I was ogling for something like that-” Y/N furrows her brows at Hadley’s suggestion and carefully chooses her words as to not come off as strange, “- it’s just that there’s this raw energy radiating off of him in waves. Like this intense ass fucking power and his ability to control the room without being present within it beyond a physical sense is so—”

“Mhmm whatever you say girl.” Hadley laughs at her friend’s flustered state, “The first big bad vampire boy you see and you’re already crushing on him”

“Bitch shutcho ass up, let’s go dance or something. I thought you were gonna show me a good time girl?” Y/N grins as Hadley eagerly drags her to the dance floor seizing the opportunity to get her friend engaged.

Allowing to get herself ensnared into Hadley’s shenanigans Y/N submits herself to be swept up into the impromptu dance floor beginning to surround the dancers preforming on the platforms in the center of the room. While the bar atmosphere in the sense of its powerful energy, and fashion choices was foreign to Y/N, the music wasn’t a complete unknown to her. Y/N playfully joined Hadley in dancing to a upbeat song, swaying and loosening up the tension in her body. Y/N grabbed Hadley’s hands and they took turns swinging their arms together dancing to the beat, along with preforming a few exaggerated spins and twirls. After a good few songs working up a sweat on the dance floor with their goofing off, the vibes of the songs began to change along with the dancing going on around them. No longer were there others harmlessly dancing to the music as the duo was a moment ago, instead the music had changed to a slower four count beat with a seductive base. Y/N recognized the tune as Nelly Furtado’s “Maneater” and rolled her eyes with a grin. “Isn’t this a bit ironic to play in a vampire club?” Y/N leaned over and spoke into Hadley’s ear.

Y/N had a few drinks by this point and was a bit more relaxed so she began to sway her hips in a more sensual nature along with the beat while tastefully running her hands along the sides of her body. Y/N dramatically flipped her hair and dropped to her knees, popping her butt a few times before swaying her hips on her way back up. Hadley looked at her friend with her jaw dropped and a look of awe on her face. “Girl now you know I’m not no fuckin’ prude” She laughed and continued to dance, running her hands through her curly hair letting it gracefully fall down her back.

“I know it’s just you seemed so out of it, I didn’t think I’d be seeing this girl tonight”

“I came out to have fun and dance. I still intend to do so even if in the most unlikely of places.” Y/N pulled her friend in close and spun around giving Hadley a friendly show of dancing on her while dropping low and popping back up again.

Hadley laughed and joined in, the both of them moving their hips in synch against each other and dancing to the rhythm of the beat. Y/N grasped Hadley’s hands and turned around continuing to sway against her friend as the music continued on. Suddenly, Y/N felt that intense aura again, only this time she could tell that energy was focused in the direction of her. Instead of leading with fear like her body still was screaming at her to do, she allowed herself to be pulled into the thrill. Hello, how do the Yanderes react when they find out that Percy became a child of about 5 or 6 years old? I ask this because according to them, Percy was born as a teenager.

this is a lil complicated to explain, but percy was not born as a "teenager" to them, but with the appearance of a fully grown goddess. they just treated her like a baby, because she technically was despite her appearance. plus, she definitely didn't have the perfect mannerisms of a fully grown goddess, so there was that too. she was a "baby".

Myrddin - OG Merlin, he's not actually associated with Arthuriana - and the Welsh myth stuff - until much later. He's one of those who was an irl lad but got incorporated into the mythos at a later date. He was a bard gifted with the power of prophecy (as all bards were thought to be in Celtic society) and was said to have gone mad after the Battle of Arfderydd in which his king and bestie Gwenddoleu died and then he fled into the woods. This gave him the epithet 'Wyllt' or Wild cuz obviously if ur living in the woods then u ain't gonna exactly be living ur best life. He's also famous for having a sister who is-

Gwendydd: her name means 'white day' and I mean that's so pretty but ur gonna know her better as Ganieda. She's best known for the dialogue poem she has with her brother that's featured in The Red Book (or Llyfr Coch) of Hergest. It's in an englyn form (a short poem) and is basically the two of them asking about prophecies and the ensuing answers. She's also featured in two poems 'Afallennau' (apple trees) and Hoianau (The Greetings.' In Afallennau Myrddin says Now Gwenddydd loves me not, and does not greet me;/I have killed her son and her daughter.' And MYRDDIN, BABES, WHAT DID U DO?! They also love each other a lot so like eehdjdjdjd Myrddin I GOTTA KNOW

Owain - OG Yvain/Ywain/Ivain. He has TOO MANY NAMES. Owain is another irl lad who got sucked into the mythos in a kind of fuckin Alice in Wonderland thing. Best known for being the main character of 'The Lady of the Fountain' he's the twin brother of Morfudd and - if u think his mam's Modron - the brother to Mabon the Hunter. Also, his dad is Urien Rheged so like name a better family pedigree? U can't. Irl Owain is The Worst but Mab Owain is Best Boi. He has a lion. He has ravens. He is besties with Gwalchmai and Peredur. I firmly believe he and Luned have a mate's holiday every year. What's that? U don't think so? U are wrong. Iesu Grist, I love him. I think having a hug from him would fix me. He also saves Luned's life and like they ARE BESTIES.

Pwyll Pen Annwfn - Pwyll Head of Annwfn to give him his proper name. He's the one who Rhiannon marries and is an idiot and like I love him but Pwyll PLS. Also has a run-in with Arawn, Lord of Annwfn that culminates in the two of them disguising themselves as each other and Pwyll slaying Arawn's enemy, Hafgan. He's also Pryderi's dad. He dies at the end of Branch 1 and is never brought up again even tho his wife and son are literally characters in Branch 3 (and if ur Pryderi Branch 4). He's a disaster area of the highest degree.

Bedwyr - Bedwyr of the Perfect Sinew (that's what Bedrydant means) he's HOT SHIT. He's Cai's husband and he's literally one of the Best and Most Handsomest Men in Arthur's retinue. He's also one-handed and the best fighter - as Pa gur says 'They fell by the hundred / before Bedwyr of the Perfect-Sinew.' - And also I think it's imperative u know he battles with fuckin WEREWOLF (Gwrgi Garwlwyd)! Bedwyd is the voice of reason for Arthur when he talks his bud down from trying to kidnap Princess Gwladys of Brycheiniog (Breacon) after he's already been kidnapped once in what I truly imagine must have been a fuckin terrible day for her. And also he and Cai legally take custody of Goreu in Culhwch ac Olwen and ride salmon taxis together. Also, Cai says 'By the hand of my friend' as a catchphrase and it's a ref to Bedwyr. They are Husbands. I legit love him. Cai also loves him. Vote for Bedwyr to please Cai or else.

Quick ramble before we begin: excluding mastered mixes of Desert Song and Bury Me In Black is EVIL!

Helena - 10/10

LITERAL PERFECTION! It sounds the same to me, but it's good nonetheless!

I'M GOING TO FUCKING COMBUST THIS IS SO GOOD–THE INTRO, EVERYTHING. AND YOU CAN HEAR MIKEY?! *screams* Gerard also says more over the outro?! I'm pretty sure he's saying, "What's that? Hey! What's that you say? Why don't you say it louder so I can hear you, fucker!"

Prison - 100/10

I was so excited to listen to Prison once I got confirmation that Revenge was being remixed. I don't know why, but I was. This remix has probably solidified this as my fav song from this album. ALSO, FRANK'S SCREAMS AND RAY?! LIKE OMG YOU CAN HEAR THEM.

I'm Not Okay - 10/10

Once again, sounds the same to me, but it's good nonetheless!

The Ghost of You - 100/10

I legit almost started crying in class because of how amazing this sounds. The guitar, Gerard's vocals. I also never noticed the whispers in the background! YOU CAN HEAR MICHAEL JAMES WAY. I also feel lik there are more synths than before.

The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You - 10/10

As I've already mentioned, I listened to this while I was in class. On my paper, and while the intro was playing, I wrote: hope they turn up that one guy's vocals - did they? Yes or No," intending to circle yes or no if they turned them up AND THEY DID! If you don't know what I'm talking about, during the bridge, the "guy" I mention is Keith Morris of Black Flag (his name escaped me in the moment) is telling a story his dad had told him as a teenager. It's still not *that* clear, but he's louder now!

Fashion Statement - 9/10

The mix is amazing, but get's a point deducted bc it's not my fav Revenge song (sorry!) "I'VE LOST MY FEAR OF FALLING" OMG FAV PART.

Cemetery Drive - 10/10

VOCALS AND I CAN HEAR MIKEY OMG.

I Never Told You What I Do for a Living - ∞/10

The change in tempo around the bridge is just AUGH. And I know this is in the original as well, but omg that was so good!!! If you thought I almost started crying during TGOY, I almost started crying here, too. THE GUITARS IN THE BRIDGE MAKE ME FEEL SO DEPRESSED IDK WHY!!!

Conclusion

This makes me think they might be testing the waters to see how we react to remix albums–maybe to decide if they should release more in the future? Maybe they’re even planning to play some of the songs on tour in addition to TBP? Who knows! MCR is such a strange entity that lives in its own little world. This could also just be their record label trying to grab a little extra cash. Either way, this was amazing and I loved it :))

okay so TENATIVE predictions for season 4: it looks like they're going to be playing into the mandela effect. half the universe remembers the umbrella timeline, half the universe remembers the sparrow timeline, and the ONLY thing both groups remember is Ben.

I've been praying since day one that Ben will have memories of both lives in his head, and judging by the fact he appears to be Going Through It in the trailer I assume that'll be the case.

since Ben is at the center of the conspiracy, I almost want to say he's who they're supposed to be rescuing? like, maybe instead of One Ben Two Lives, it's Two Bens One Cup. I don't think they'll do that, though. They're probably trying to rescue Jennifer. HOWEVER I do think it would be really sexy if Nick Offerman and Megahn Mullally weren't playing a couple but were instead playing the same person from different universes (hence being named Gene and Jean), and they somehow found each other and that's why they're leading this conspiracy.

Mystery Jennifer is stressing me out. obviously by the glowing she's got something going on. I'm thinking there's a possibility she was erased from the family's memories after Ben's death- the trailer makes it seem like Reginald made Allison rumor them after the fact. there's probably a decent chance they all knew her, she lost control of her powers, Ben died, Reginald locked her away and erased all traces of her. maybe in the sparrow timeline she died instead, or maybe she was always locked up there and Ben was drawing her from memories that were already starting to leak through from the og timeline, but either way probably in trying to uncover how Ben died they figure out they have to save her. idk!

also, six is like. a random number of years I'm sorry. why wouldn't they just say five years later? maybe another thing to do with Ben bc umbrella Ben was number six? I'm probably reading too much into that one.

I'm truly SO scared they're gonna reveal none of them have spoken during the time skip. Five doesn't deserve that 😭😭. in my perfect world him and Viktor have an apartment but the show writers 100% forgot they said those two were best friends when they were kids judging by the rest of the series rip. when the Gene and Jean characters were first announced I thought maybe Five got stuck in the foster system and they took him in, and that could still be the case (maybe that's how they noticed the universe is a lie in the first place, the boy loves to Yap) but I think it's less likely now idk

if Diego and Lila's daughter isn't named Gracie....what was this all for. what was this all building towards. what's the point. LMFAO I know the popular fanon one is Anita (personally in my head I've been calling her Poppy and I Don't Know Why) but like Gracie is the only name that makes sense, Diego is Too Much of a mama's boy to accept anything else.

this one isn't a prediction it's just a demand- I DEMAND a white violin icon moment set to extraordinary girl by green day. they can 100% get away with just doing an instrumental version since Viktor's not a girl lmfao, but it literally Haunts Me that they didn't do that at the end of season 1 (or at LEAST play the opening of letterbomb when Viktor was in the basement hallucinating) so they NEED to make up for that. it's the last season. play the fucking song oh my God.

there might be too much going on to bring the sparrows back in any meaningful way, but like! I liked them! I especially wanted more Marcus last season, he and Viktor had good chemistry. and Fei was an icon. Why Are We Hiding Sloane Tho. I considered maybe they were rescuing Sloane, but like, Luther just seems a little too happy for that to be the case? that's why I also think Diego and Lila's kid isn't the one being rescued like I saw some theories suggest- Diego is so excited and Lila's grinning in the car scene. can't imagine their 5 year old is missing.

Five is absolutely gonna die. like I'm sorry since episode 1 there's never been a believable outcome where everything's okay and he lives. HOWEVER I think there's a very strong chance the series could end with the timeline is finally saved and set right, and grandpa Five died- but then right at the end 2002 baby Five shows up and gets stuck in the safe timeline. Five has been a walking paradox the whole series. it'd be bittersweet to lose the Five we love, but know that he's still technically getting a happy ending because he doesn't have to live through the apocalypse and become an assassin. I think that's like the best outcome we can hope for.

I think it'd be EXTREMELY funny if Reginald is just super nice now that Abigail is back. like the entire excuse for 30 years of insane behavior was that he missed his wife. bestie there are better ways to cope than abusing superpowered kids </3 but lmao I'm intrigued by him and Viktor being together in both trailers! I've always gotten the feeling that Viktor is one of his 'favorites' (to the best of his ability anyway), and from the brief childhood flashbacks we see that he had baby V acting as an assistant for him, so I'd like to see their relationship expanded a little bit. honestly I just want a lot about Reginald cleared up- he does give off the distinct impression that he actually cares about his kids, even though he's abusive. I'm assuming the explanation will be something along the lines of 'well I always planned to bring you back and safe in the New Universe', that he was approaching it as a 'they have to suffer now to save the universe, and then they can be happy' mindset. that would be interesting. but I'm also a little worried they'll wave his behavior off with 'oh he's an alien he just can't understand how he affected them', which, would suck writing-wise.

I'm worried about Allison- I'm sure they're gonna want her to have a full redemption by the end of the series, but what she did to Viktor and Luther last season...like I just don't know that they'll pull off a meaningful redemption, to where it's believable that they forgive her (other than the fact they're both softies and push overs). not with the shorter season, anyway! I *think* the person Viktor was punching in the trailer was Allison. but I'm worried that instead of actually fixing the issue the writers will just have her do a sacrifice play. especially since, bless her, she's the least sacrificial person in the family, so I could see the argument that it'll be a meaningful character growth moment, but like...if they don't actually have her believably fix her mistakes it'll just feel like a lazy writing move. also, I love her and I don't want any of them to die. as I said, the only death I'm willing to accept is Five's WITH the promise of baby Five getting a happy ending.

I want the Handler to come back, even if it's only for one scene. sorry, I think her absence was one of the low points of season 3.

I think if Grace appears in this season at all it won't be the robot version we're used to, but an older version of her human self that Diego met in the 60s. could be very bittersweet. I just don't think the robot exists in this universe bc honestly if my husband revived me from the dead but then I found out he's been living without me just fine, but made a robot copy of a pretty young fling he had after my death and seemingly can't live without her. I'd be a little pissed! sorry! lmao that said I also have personally been headcannoning that Grace is actually a cyborg and not a robot this whole time, the kids just don't know because of all the insane protocols Reginald set up, so if they do something with that instead I'll be really excited.

Valentina wakes up everyday and everyday decides to be the WORST I swear 💀💀💀 honestly I do think eithne does get a reprieve when in public bc Valentina wants to give the impression that they’re one big happy family and def none of her kids are serving the others why would you even ~imagine such a ludicrous thing 👀😅 no but yeah!! Adhkjfdg the more I think abt it the more I think Valentina may have somehow incentivized the og girls all showing up for at least one of the tournament days as a happy family to cheer on their lord and brother (blah blah blah) bc she’s now watching first guin then arthur and now edmund slip through her fingers and she’s realizing it has to do not w her own children but w the og girls (much to her chagrin!) and she’s like DO UR THING GET THEM BACK but wo saying that so and let me just @forgottenbrigit Valentina’s probs giving alms at Malconaire for every day and every girl that appears bc she knows that’s what’ll entice them honestly! Sgjjfdg so while I was initially thinking @forgottenroisin would absent herself (I mean she just learned edmund killed her dad in battle the LAST thing she wants to do rn is watch him fight 💀😭) and I think she did insist she wasn’t coming till Valentina pulled that one out but yeah. Anyway!! So yeah idk if eithe Brigit or aoife were receptive to these bribes but rosie was! Tho she probs didn’t spend much time at the stands except whatever was the absolute minimum requirement for Valentina re: being seen there in order to help malconaire etc. Do you guys think ur ladies were receptive to this bribery? OKOKOK FIRST OF ALL THANK YOU FOR ASKING I LOVE TO RANT ABT MISSION IMPOSSIBLE!!!

now ik you said best to worst but imma go from worst to best cause i think thats more dramatique

OK MY MISSION IMOPSSIBLE 1-7 RANKING:

7. mission: impossible 2 low hanging fruit i know. look i dont dislike this movie - im a diehard m:i fan, so i like all of them. this movie has its moments, n i rlly like john woo as a director, n i loved the rock climbing scene n knife stunt. the romance rlly brings it down for me tho, felt very shoehorned in there.

6. mission: impossible 3 here bc its better than 2 but not as good as 1. loved that it introduced my goats julia n benji, n i loved the building jump n the running scene. rlly solid movie, only this low bc i like the others more.

5. mission: impossible ik its pretty criminal to have the original at number FIVE, but the next four are just so goated. now obviously this movie is great, its the og. but tbh it doesnt stand out to me as much as the others do, doesnt have as much of a huge action setpiece that we've come to love. plus, modern day tom cruise wouldve done that helicopter in the tunnel bit for real.

now i call this next category the FOUR MOVIE PERFECTION RUN,,, bc thats what it is. every one of these next four are absolutely perfect in my eyes, n i could see any of them being someones number one

4. mission: impossible - ghost protocol perfect. down to the last minute detail. i,,, i mean where do i begin. THE burj khalifa stunt. adding benji to the team permanently. paula patton beating ass. the dude from lost dying like five minutes in. tying up the loose end that is ethan n julia. n ik this is niche but the lil outfit change ethan does when hes leaving the kremlin gets me every time. gosh theres just,,, SO much to love abt this movie idk what more i can say. this one was my mission impossible gateway drug.

3. mission: impossible - dead reckoning ok hear me out HEAR ME OUT. before you get mad. OBJECTIVELY SPEAKING, this is the best one. this is THE best one. but this is my personal ranking. the reason i put rogue nation n fallout over this MASTERPIECE is purely bc of,,, The Thing. yknow. the thing that happens to that one character. that one very beloved character. if youve seen the movie you know what i mean. but if youre not a mission fan, n youre not emotionally attached to these characters like i am, this is the best one. unfortunately, i am very emotionally attached to ethan n his pals.

2. mission: impossible - fallout now,,, what can i say abt fallout that hasnt already been said. its perfection. perfect, down to the last minute detail. the STUNTS. the continuity from rogue nation. introducing alanna n having her stab a man while wearing this GORGEOUS white two piece that i still think abt to this day. bringing back solomon lanes bitch ass. bringing back ILSA who is literally my number one my goat my everything. n tell me how every action setpiece n fight is imbedded with fucking CRACK. the club bathroom fight, the HALO jump, ilsa n benji duking it out w lane in that little shack, ethan n walker duking it out on a cliff, THE WHOLE ASS HELICOPTER SEQUENCE where tom cruise just casually flew a helicopter as one does. n OHMYGOSH THE RUNNING. im a simple man ok i could literally watch nine hours of simon pegg telling tom cruise where to run. oh also the fucking fake out in the beginning w the fucking hospital room n benji impersonating that cnn fellow is literally the most impressive thing in the series to me. i was FLABBERGASTED. ok i know im just rambling n listing things but this movie is just,,, so, so good

1 mission impossible - rogue nation see. im aware that fallout n dead reckoning are objectively better than rogue nation. however,,, nostalgias one HELLUVA drug. this movie came out when my family was moving n i was SUPER emo abt it. but i had been looking forward to this movie for like years at that point n even tho i was going through a tough time i was SO stoked to see rogue nation. n rlly i feel like its the perfect mission impossible movie. luthers back after being absent in ghost protocol. tom cruise holding his breath for six fucking minutes as one does. benji is the damsel in distress. n how could i forget the fact that this movie introduces THE BEST CHARACTER IN THE SERIES??? ilsa my GOAT. notice how the three movies shes in are the top three,,, yeah shes the best written character in the series not to mention shes uh just rlly cool n yeah. this blog proudly promotes ilsa faust supremacy.

some long rambly thoughts on TBHX ep 2 (thoughts on Moon and Nice, Wreck, and Enlighter). spoilers under the cut

I'm relived that Moon isn't actually dead, and i think it's fun that the narrative seemingly told to us by the show at the end of ep 1—that Moon dies to traumatize L0!Nice and give him character development/motivation—is exactly the kind of lie the characters tell the public in ep 2 to free Moon from her curse contract of "being Nice's significant other in a perfect relationship with him." With Lin Ling being a PR guy before and Miss J having the same skills as Nice's manager, it makes sense they'd lean into the fridged girlfriend trope to sell the 'tragedy' here (though this does raise the question of what exactly L0 saw at the end of ep 1—i don't think it's just a nightmare, so there's probably a deeper meaning that hopefully doesn't actually end with Moon dead*. Maybe another hero (X?) altered reality when doing their own plot and it erased Moon's death as a side-effect? maybe it's a glimpse of the future and she might still die? knowing the creator it's probably foreshadowing but i'd really rather Moon disappear from the show forever than being brought back just to die. run girl, be free from the narrative!!)

*ngl Li Haoling has a reputation so Moon's not out of the woods just yet. I hope she survives till the end but it's very possible that she ends up dead anyway.

Given Moon said she's already under contract with Treeman when she was a travel blogger, her initial contract probably just said she's to play Nice's girlfriend when needed so she assumed it's only for a short time to boost both their popularity and then they'd get an amicable break up... except it never happens, and after 3 years Treeman now wants a freaking marriage because their shippers want them to get hitched💀(also the way the fans' Trust chains her teleportation powers to Nice is so cursed).

From how she talks about OG!Nice, it seems like they're at a point where they don't even tolerate each other as people, let alone have any sort of camaraderie, so the fact that they're supposed to live together and sleep in the same bed—even in private where there's no one to sell their fake romance to—is a pretty good representation of the pressures they're under. Did they actually sleep separately like what L0 is doing? Did OG!Nice agree to the sleeping arrangements without protest** and that exacerbated Moon's frustrations with him?

**Given his relationship with Wreck is queercoded as all heck (tho i do think they're vague about it beyond just censorship issues—OG!Nice not being straight adds texture to the story, but what's important to me is that Wreck cared deeply for OG!Nice and is the only person to see Nice as a person), i'm interested in how Nice initially reacted to the fake romance. Did he try negotiating at all, given his star power? Did Treeman use Wreck as collateral to wear him down to the point where the only way he thought he could fight back was to take their Nice away from them by committing suicide? but if that's the case, then the details of the suicide doesn't make sense—if i were him, I'd kill myself in public with lots of witnesses or jump off the Treeman building to really make the message clear, not at a roof where only some rando will see me. and it failed anyway because they just grabbed another guy to replace him.

hm... in his Chinese character PV he says something like "i'll protect everyone's perfect smiles... including yours" to Wreck, so did he think dying is the only way to free Moon and Wreck from the curse of Nice (i.e. free their identities from Nice's), and it had to be done in a way where they can still be employed under Treeman without ppl losing trust in the company (hence not completely losing it and fucking Treeman over by tanking the brand)? but while Moon's identity might be able to survive in the aftermath—might in fact boost her popularity like how her 'death' in ep 2 boosted LL!Nice's—it wouldn't work for Wreck. Wreck was literally created to be Nice's nemesis, Treeman wouldn't keep employing him if Nice was gone; if this worked then he'd be causing his bff to be unemployed, so that theory doesn't make sense either... the mystery of OG!Nice's suicide is still unsolved)

And like, what did OG!Nice think of Moon anyway? Moon didn't give a single shit about OG!Nice killing himself despite being co-workers/fake lovers for years—did she know he was suicidal (she wasn't surprised by the revelation at all) but is at a point where she hates him so much that she has no sympathy for him at all? It definitely seemed like she hated him personally rather than just hating what his persona did to her, so I'm inclined to think that she didn't trust Nice to stick up for her/sees Nice as one of the people exploiting her (probably because from her POV he always gives in to Treeman's demands without a proper fight, though I have no evidence of this). I wonder if they used to get along better in the early days, if only because they're co-workers stuck in the same contract, but their interpersonal relationship broke down over time when it's made clear that:

1) Moon is just here to be Nice's accessory (godawful for Moon and not what she thought she was signing up for);

2) Moon's inclusion means Wreck is getting phased out of Nice's lore (awful for Nice since he can't interact with his boyfriend bestie and probably felt he was 'betraying' or 'abandoning' Wreck);

3) they have to live together/share a bed (where their personalities and living habits would clash); and possibly

4) Nice—the guy with the star power—wouldn't back Moon up and always caves in to the producers' demands, even though he has leverage (much more than her, in any case).

I'm honestly trying to make sense of Moon's immediate response to the revelation that Nice killed himself, and this is my explanation for it. (I know this is just me trying to fill in the gaps in a way that's satisfying to me, and the writers probably didn't think too deeply about it.) I wish we got more information about OG!Nice's private interactions with Moon, but again, I'd rather Moon stay safe away from the plot even though I'd love to see more of her.

also, while the factors already presented so far paints a possible picture of why Nice committed suicide (under massive pressure to be 'perfect' at all times and possibly having existing conditions amplified by fans; being forced to live with a woman who hates him and whose personality clashes with his while having to play up their "perfect romance" for the public; being cut off from his best friend/maybe more by their boss), i think there's more to it (like whatever the Hero Smile incident is). I think it'd be interesting if Wreck teamed up with God Eye to expose Treeman trying to cover up Nice's death—i'd burn them to the ground if someone I care deeply about killed themself while under a contract with them and the company tried to pass some other rando off as them—though i feel like the implication is that Wreck chose to join OG!Nice when he fell, since his Nice is dead and their dream can never come true. I personally think it's a waste for this character to commit lover's suicide just like that but who knows.

on a similar topic, I kinda wonder what Enlighter/God Eye's angle is—he's obviously the kind of guy who likes making callout posts and tearing other people down to elevate himself, but was he once motivated by a less toxic version of truthseeking (actually caring about social issues rather than just using it to cancel whoever he's targeting) and his vindictive attitude was amplified due to the fans? He had been investigating Nice for some time already, so what about Nice caught his attention? Is it just envy and wanting to drag Nice down from his pedestal, or is there something more to it? Does it have anything to do with the "Hero Smile incident" that Nice was apparently affected by?

The Spotlight Octopus's line about how he wouldn't need to "fear betrayal or beg for anything from anyone again" implies such an interesting past about this character, so it's a shame that I think he's just here to be a hater. and I mean, he's actually absolutely right that the current Nice is not the original one, so I'm interested to see what the show is trying to say about truths and lies—he and L0 are foils in that L0 is a 'liar' who made ads to "paint black into white" and is literally impersonating Nice but is a decent guy, while God Eye is a 'truth teller' who seems to do it for selfish/petty motives. These choices are made deliberately so I'm interested to see where they're going with it.
