Suffering AU

I've been listening to Suffering on repeat, well all of Epic the Musical really, but all I can think about is a little story in my brain about a siren whose trying to seduce one Odysseus's crew but as she's singing her heart out she starts to realize...oh dang, he's kind of cute...and develops a little crush while oblivious to her sisters frustrations over Odysseus's little tale about trying to evade Poseidon. Her heart is pitter pattering like crazy while the sailor can't keep his eyes off of her...until someone smacks him in the back of the head to remember the task of catching the sea monsters. The sailor doesn't know what he's doing but he gestures to the siren to leave and she obeys, diving deep down and away from the ship, just narrowly avoiding the nets the scoop up her pod, leaving her to watch as they're massacred.

Her heart is broken as her sisters sink to into the inky depths of the ocean, each losing their lives no matter how much she tries to save them until the blood attracts other monsters, forcing her to flee...and follow the Odysseus's ship. She doesn't know why, her heart feels sick but every time she peeks above the waves she see's the sailor, often at the edge of the ship, looking at the water as if he was searching for something and the sight, that silhouette in the light makes her heart go wild as she remembers some of her sisters reciting stories of a great love that they were never destined to find.

This siren, with hope and the Gods know what else, continue to follow the ship, even braving hiding amongst the waves as she watches in horror as Zeus demands Odysseus to choose: him, or his crew?

Without thinking she cuts through the water to the side of the ship where that one sailor stands, finally their eyes locking as she gestures to him wildly.

And this is where things are up to the writer...I know what my mind would choose but... Will the sailor risk it all and dive into the water or will he be forced to face the same fate as his crew mates?

Remember this is an au that won't leave my brain, nothing that's meant to be rooted in the story. It's all for fun :)

Odysseus is ready to strangle the Olympians—one by one—for forcing him into this volleyball match. And then the teenagers who are absolutely destroying his crew.

Eurylochus crashes to the ground, the ball bouncing off his head and landing on the court.

The other side erupts in cheers. If Odysseus hears them shout in joy one more time, he might just summon a storm with his anger.

"I think I may have broken a bone," Eurylochus groans, while Polites helps him up.

"Eurylochus, do not—" Odysseus begins, fully prepared to curse out his brother-in-law.

"We will beat them, don't worry," Polites interrupts brightly.

The scoreboard blares 12 to 0.

Perimedes points it out. Elpenor quickly shuts him up.

He glared at the kids across from them. They had been introduced to each other, so he knew all their names and their parents. The first one, and the one who had gotten the most points, was Percy Jackson, a child of Poseidon. He wondered what the sea god would do if he poked Jackson's eye out.

He debates whether it was worth it.

He decides it is. As soon as he got his hand on something sharp-

The others included, Annabeth Chase, was a child of Athena, which strangely stung.

A child of Zeus, Jason Grace. Eurylochus had declared if he hit the blonde kid in the face with the ball, it would be a victory for him.

Leo Valdez, a son of Hephaestus, who clearly was not taking the game seriously. He got distracted by everything and could not stay still for 10 seconds.

Frank Zhang, a child of Mars, who was Roman version of Ares. Odysseus groaned when he was told that there were a different versions of the Greek Gods who weren't very different at all.

And Piper Mclean, a child of Aphrodite. He didn't know how to feel about her.

There a child of Pluto, the roman version of Hades, watching from the sidelines named Hazel Levesque.

He’s a hero, a legend remembered by history, and these children are laughing at him!

Annabeth calls. “You might want to work on your serve. It’s kinda… underwhelming.”

“Underwhelming?” Odysseus snaps, grabbing the ball. He winds up and serves with all the force of a furious storm.

The ball flies sideways and misses the net entirely.

Jason bursts out laughing. “Nice shot! Want me to get it for you?”

Piper chimes in with dripping sarcasm, “Yeah, we can take it easy while you go on a quest for the ball.”

"Perimedes, go get it," Odysseus grumbles.

"Why me?" Perimedes whines.

Odysseus glares daggers at him. Perimedes stumbles to retrieve the ball.

Odysseus growls and tries again. His serve barely clears the net and is intercepted by Frank Zhang, who spikes it so hard it almost knocks Odysseus over.

“You know what’s the worst part?” Odysseus mutters. “They’re enjoying this.”

Annabeth catches his eye, smirking. “We do have a tendency to be good at things like this,” she calls out.

“Yeah, well, so do I!” Odysseus snaps back. “I could sink your whole ship with a single command!”

Leo Valdez, inspecting the ball like a piece of machinery, barely looks up. “Cool story, bro. But this isn’t the Odyssey. It’s volleyball. And we’re winning.”

"You haven’t done anything!" Odysseus retorts.

"Well, neither have you." Leo motions at the scoreboard, barely glancing up.

“You know, we’re having fun. I think that’s what counts," Jason says.

Odysseus turns to his team, who look equally dejected. “Alright, let’s try a new tactic,” he says, trying to salvage some dignity. “We’re going for a strategic play!”

Eurylochus mumbles, “You mean, like hiding the ball in the bushes?”

“No!” Odysseus snaps. “We’ll use the element of surprise.”

Perimedes, finally back with the ball, looks at him skeptically. “What’s the plan?”

Odysseus whispers dramatically, “We’ll fake a serve and then—”

Before he can finish, Leo Valdez, who’s just fixed his shoelace, tosses the ball back into play. The ball sails over the net, and instead of following his own plan, Odysseus dives for it, accidentally bumping it into his own face. The ball ricochets back over the net.

Percy spikes it with ease, and it lands with a decisive thud on Odysseus’s side. The scoreboard updates: 19 to 0.

The final whistle blows. Odysseus stares at the ground, his pride in tatters.

Percy Jackson and his team erupted into cheers and high-fives, their victory sweet and complete. Percy, with a grin as wide as the Mississippi, calls out, “Great game, guys! You definitely kept us on our toes!”

Annabeth, grinning, adds, “And hey, it was good practice for us, too. We’ll be ready for anything now!”

The child of Mars chuckles. “You should’ve seen it, Odysseus. You almost made us break a sweat.”

Odysseus grumbled, “I’d rather face the Cyclops than play another round of this.”

"I wouldn't…" Polites mumbles.

As his team trudges off the court, Eurylochus, still grumbling about his 'broken bone', picks up the ball. In a fit of frustration, he hurls it toward the demigod team.

The ball smacks Jason Grace in the face. He stumbles and falls backwards, landing on his behind.

"AHA!" Eurylochus yells in victory, throwing his arms up, then winces.

Odysseus, struggling to hide a grin, says, “Well, at least we hit something.”

The crew quickly gathers their things and moves away, leaving behind the stunned demigods.

Okay. Okay. Hear me out. Because I'm Greek mythology trash.

An Odyssey AU for Miraculous Ladybug. Think about it. Adrien is the most Odysseus character I've ever seen. Fake piano playing? Hiding in a fountain? I mean, it practically writes itself. And Marinette as Penelope is equally as perfect - she creates, but she's smart enough to pull it all apart at the end of the day.

Now here is where things get a little strange: Telemachus. Being an avid MLB fanfiction reader (and ignoring all of seasons 4 and 5), I'm very well aware that Adrienette's kids are supposedly going to be Louis, Hugo, and Emma. Now tell me, what could Emma be short for? That's right, Telemachus. So hear me out - Adrien was drafted into the war *Before* Emma was born, so he never knew he had a daughter and his last request for his child was to name them Telemachus. But when she was born a girl, she was nicknamed Emma. Hugo and Louis don't exist in this version, obviously.

So we have our main family, what about everyone else? Well, we have Adrian's two crewmates, Polites and Eurilochus. Or in this case, Nino and Felix. Nino is his friend who fought at his side and is tragically killed along the ride back, causing Adrian to go into a spiral of grief, whereas Felix is his somewhat suspicious and angry second in command who can't understand why Adrien is being so reckless with his own life and that of the crew to get back to his wife and child. So eventually he starts straight up sabotaging the trip to try and get through to Adrien, which doesn't ever work because when Adrien is in love, he doesn't notice other people.

As for the people they meet on their travels:

Circe is Lila - this one feels pretty self explanatory, except for the fact that Lila would never care that much about the nymphs around her, so I'm thinking she lives alone on the island and basically functions as a non-water siren - she draws men in with comfort and beauty and then turns them into pigs.

The wind god Aeolus is just Trixx - they're weird and whimsical and would absolutely give someone a bag of wind with the word "gold" written on it.

Calypso is Chloe, left there alone on this island for "protection" from her overbearing father, a minor deity. Again, this just kind of makes sense in my brain. And she gets a little bit of a redemption when she finally willingly lets Adrien go home.

When the crew of the ship go down into the underworld, they meet "Tyresius", who in this case is Master Fu. Weird cryptic old wise guy who's maybe dead? Yeah. That fits.

And finally we have the deities themselves. Like I said, Trixx is already accounted for, so we have three main ones - Posideon, Athena, and Hermes.

Posideon is most definitely ShadowMoth - not really any meaning behind this, we're just making him mysterious and powerful and angry at Adrien for seemingly no reason. But he's doing his best to keep this man from reaching home, possibly because early in the journey, Adrien was instrumental in killing a sentimonster, which canonically is kind of a piece of the creator.

Athena and Hermes are two of a pair - Tikki and Plagg, obviously. Wisdom and trickery, sounds just about right to me.

Au ideas for Epic the musical

I've seen many god!Odysseus and mermaid!Odysseus x Poseidon stories on AO3 and Tumblr, and I have my own AU idea that I just have to share! In this AU, not only is Odysseus unwillingly turned into a god/goddess and made Poseidon's spouse, but some of his well-known crew members are also transformed into gods/goddesses and forced into marriages with other gods. Here’s a list of who becomes a god/goddess, in order of their transformation, and their symbols:

Polites: God of Loyalty and Fellowship. He's married to Hades & Persephone, and he was actually willing to marry them and become a god/goddess.

Symbol: A Linked Knot.

Elpenor: God of Folly and Recklessness. He was forced married to Dionysus (though I'm wondering if I should add Ariadne to this AU too, since there are so many versions!).

Symbol: A Cracked Cup.

Eurylochus: God of Doubt and Defiance. He's married to Zeus (just him—still debating if Hera should be nice or mean to him). As expected, he was also unwillingly forced into marriage and godhood—this is Zeus we’re talking about.

Symbol: A Dimly Lit Torch.

Odysseus: God of the Journey and Wanderings. He’s married to Poseidon (I’m considering adding Amphitrite here too). Once again, Odysseus was forced into the marriage and godhood, still missing his wife and son.

Symbol: A Small Ship.

Perimedes: Hasn’t become a god/goddess yet.

Symbol: None.

Yes, Perimedes is still mortal! The reason is I’m not sure which god or aspect he should embody. But plot-wise, Perimedes has somehow survived and will be the one attempting to save his crewmates, whether he wants to or not. He’ll be trying to save Elpenor (who may or may not be his crush), Eurylochus, and Odysseus (not sure if Polites needs rescuing yet…). This story has sensitive topics (especially around forced marriage, etc.), but I try to add a bit of humor, like scenes of the four gods having a tea party (if their husbands let them leave) and chatting about their situations. I’m handling it with respect, though!

Feel free to ask me more questions about this AU—I’d love more ideas!
