The Iron Mask
Two Elden Ring Orests I've drawn as a fineliner test some weeks ago, based on a sketch from 2023🖤 I want to return to some other traditional techniques besides pencil, so I'm doing these experiments when I'm not home and I can't work on commissions 🖤

The Iron Mask (2019)
A group of misfits scattered around the world work together to free a dragon and stop some wizards led by an evil princess.
Most of the basic concept is fairly strong and different enough to the typical travel and historical twist fantasies to remain engaging. There are a few familiar faces and the comedy is present but not intrusive so the focus is usually on the main story and exploring the fairytale lore of both Chinese and Russian cultures.
Easily the biggest flaw of the film is that the audio was terribly synchronised and it’s not only noticable, it’s very distracting. It isn’t even consistently bad, there are times when it’s negligible and others where a character is mid sentence before the line can be heard. There were also a couple of points involving CGI when the frame rate appeared to glitch.
There seemed to be an attempt to explain magic as science but the science was partly a source of the comedy since it made little sense. The main example is they explain teleportation by having one ‘wizard’ generate smoke but he still moves impossibly fast and over barriers. The line about being poisoned so many times that one character is immune to them all also ignores all chemical laws.
Although there were famous actors, most of the top-billed got barely any screen time. Charles Dance in particular had only a couple of brief scenes and his character was mostly irrelevant to the story. Our protagonists were also weaker compared with all the guest stars so it made it more difficult to connect with them.
3/10 -This one’s bad but it’s got some good in it, just there-

The three primary uses of masks in film are entertainment, disguise and protection. From ancient Greek plays through Japanese Noh theater, masks are deeply intertwined in the universal language of entertainment and ritual, and its power as a transformative tool is so ritualized and timeworn that it is the unofficial logo for an entire artform. Since theater was an influence on early motion pictures (consider the framing and gestural acting of silent film), it figures that masks would be smuggled into movies, and some of the most enduring images from film history are now associated with masks. —Alex Vlahov

It would be a lie to say I understood particularly much of the plot, but this figure from the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 was apparently the Phantom of the Opera.

Uhm actuallyyyy homoerotic tension with an eldritch god & light indulgence in cannibalism is a stage of grief. Ya it's the secret sixth more sinister one. So it's suuuper problematic that you're making fun of him for that it's liiiiiiiiterally his coping mechanism. Ya man we're gonna have you shot like a sick horse.

I used to get an arguments on facebook and it bit me in the ass enormously because it turns out that when you get an arguments on facebook habitually, you'll be interacting with a lot of other people who get an arguments on facebook habitually, and most of these people are deeply unpleasant and they will be super mean to you in really fucked up ways. so for a couple of years I just sort of dropped off ever interacting with anyone who said things that I did not agree with. I would just scroll past stuff or I would get upset about it privately and move on. I did not ever engage. and the last couple of weeks I've started being able to say things in response to things I don't agree with in ways that I feel lay out what my perspective is but do not get overly invested in "winning" or "proving" anything -- I will say my piece generally for the benefit of other people who might be reading the conversation and need to hear what I have to say. and then I will turn notifications off and go do something else.
anyway. wow. y'all heard about this? pretty cool shit.

Irondad fic ideas #148
You know those homework assignments where you have to interview someone in your family and then write an essay about their responses? Fic where Peter's class is told to interview their dad / a father figure in their life.
Peter decides to interview Tony. But, he doesn't want his class to accuse him of lying, and he definitely doesn't want Tony to know what the assignment is about.
So for Tony, Peter makes it seem like the assignment is just to interview anyone. Then, he carefully chooses questions to ask that are domestic and personal enough to avoid any mention of superheroes, celebrities, or so on. The few details that do slip through he just leaves out of his final essay.
For the class problem, Peter solves it by referring to Tony in the essay exclusively as "dad"
Unfortunately for Peter, the teacher then announces a part 2 to the assignment. Right after collecting the essays, the teacher says they will now need to bring the people they interviewed to school for their presentations
Peter has pretty much decided to not even mention it to Tony and just say his dad is busy. But then Flash has to open his big mouth.
He accuses Peter of just making his assignment up, loudly reminding the class that he's an orphan. Peter clarifies that this father figure thing is a new development, but now the teacher looks suspicious
Peter is going to have to ask Tony to come to his school. And he's going to have to explain why the class will be full of kids and their fathers

Magnificent Musketeer Tournament
Aramis Semi-Final- Poll 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aramis - Jeremy Irons The Man in the Iron Mask 1998
I just love how deeply he understands every one of his friends. He knows exactly what makes them tick, he can anticipate their every move because he just knows them so well. Also how could I (or anyone) say no to hot Priest Jeremy Irons who's tortured by the past?
Aramis - Santiago Cabrera The Musketeers 2014-2016
THIS character played by THIS actor is pure, molten fire alchemy. Not just “the pretty one” of the Musketeers (although, dear God, he is certainly that!), IMO he has the most aspects and layers of the quartet. He’s: The Ladies’ Man (natch) The Religious One (who’s willing to damn his immortal soul to save the woman he loves) The Sharpshooter The De Facto Surgeon/Medic (who’s very proud of his needlework) The Insouciant, Quippy One The One Who’s Good With Kids (heartbreakingly, as it turns out) (continued under the cut)
The complete list of entrants can be found here.
More information & links to the other polls here.
Additional Propaganda under the cut
Jeremy Irons:

Santiago Cabrera:
(continued from above) The character certainly gets run through an emotional wringer over the course of the series, easily sliding between his many facets: cheeky flirt, haunted soldier, mischievous trickster, brave stalwart, murderous alpha male (especially if anyone threatens the Queen), yearning smitten kitten, guilt-racked penitent, longing secret father, kind friend to the downtrodden, justice seeker, etc. From very early in the series, we see that underneath that pretty, pretty facade and devil-may-care attitude lies a man with some deep hurt, sadness, guilt, and self-recrimination. And that only gets more pronounced throughout the series. And then, of course, there’s his glorious mane of unruly dark hair and deep brown eyes. That’s just freaking catnip for me. I love him. He is unforgettable and has lived rent-free in my head ever since.
He absolutely nails the dichotomy of the character, both soulful and badass. He’s just so dammed good. And so very, very pretty.
